Does your MC like to cook? What's their favorite and least favorite thing about it?
Hi Nonny! Thank you for the ask! I'm not sure which MC you meant so I will answer for all of them! 🙂 (or at least the main ones)
Olivia
Olivia loves food and so she loves to cook. This is very helpful to Bryce who has always been a little cooking challenged. However, through some very hands-on lessons, Bryce is getting better. (Although more practice will be required.)
Olivia enjoys cooking comfort foods and dessert. Her least favorite food to cook would probably be anything with fish. She is not a big seafood fan (despite Bryce's best efforts).
Olivia enjoys the whole cooking process, including clean up. She finds doing the dishes to be relaxing (and sometimes fun with the right help). Her least favorite part of the process is probably burning food (however, she is adamant that it is never her fault and it is because someone *cough* Bryce *cough* distracts her.)
[Bryce Lahela & Olivia Hadley Masterlist]
Ellie
Ellie enjoys cooking but it's not her favorite thing to do. She much rather watch Ethan cook, especially his delicious and legendary chicken. She is however a very hands on assistant. She helps make sure her chef is not too stressed.
Her favorite thing about cooking is spending time with Ethan. He is definitely more relaxed in the kitchen and she loves seeing him have fun. Her least favorite thing about cooking is cleaning up.
[Ethan Ramsey & Ellie Shepherd Masterlist]
Daenarya
Daenarya doesn't love or hate cooking. She never really thought about it as something she enjoys or doesn't. It is something she must do. She does enjoy when Mal offers to cook and let her clean up. When they open the orphanage , she finds that she enjoys cooking more because it gives her and the boys and opportunity to bond as she teaches what she knows.
Her least favorite part of cooking is having to do all aspects of it herself (shopping, cooking, serving, cleaning), because Mal is being lazy or trying to avoid work.
[Mal Volari & Daenarya + The Orphanage Series]
Alex
Like Olivia, Alex enjoys food so she enjoys cooking. She particularly enjoys breakfast treats (pancakes, waffles, french toast). She will make Breakfast for Dinner at times. The twins love it. Thomas however always grumps about it, but he always enjoys it.
Her favorite part of cooking is serving it and enjoying a good meal with her family. She insists on family dinners as often as possible for their busy and sometimes separate lives. However, if they are all in the same area, she insists they share a meal daily. There is no eating when/where you want. She wants that family meal because she knows time moves too fast and every minute with her family is a precious gift.
Her least favorite part of cooking is definitely cleaning up. She does not like when her hands get prune-y or if a dirty dish splashes water on her. Thankfully, Thomas is happy to help with clean up.
[Thomas Hunt x Alex Spencer Masterlist]
Laura
Laura loves cooking more now than before. Being a single parent and one without a stable job/income, she wasn't a huge fan of cooking. She made simple meals that included ingredients that didn't cost a lot. For her cooking was a necessity and she didn't spend anything on extras or making it fancy or fun.
Now that she has a more stable job, and she has a coparent to help (Levi) she enjoys cooking a little more. She loves being able to try new things, especially recipes that Levi introduces them to from his heritage. As their lives become more comfortable, Laura definitely can spend more time enjoying cooking and the experience rather than worrying about how much money and time she is spending on it.
[Levi Schuler & Laura Day]
Thanks again for the ask, Nonny! I hope this answers your question 💖

Staring the cast of Castle
Why did you elbow me? Part 22. The waterpark.
(Heart issue) Featuring L&O SVU
Kate: pov In the ambulance the medics were keeping an eye on my vitals the whole way there. At the ER I was rushed into a trauma/exam room. Castle told the Dr my medical history. He told them I was shot on the left side of my chest. Causing me to flat line. It nicked a left inferior pulmonary vein causing Tension pneumothorax on my left side requiring a chest tube. My pericardium was distend compressing my heart. The Bullet had grazed the ventricle causing me to bleed into my heart causing it to not work right resulting in vfib/flat line causing me to go into cardiac arrest. He told them I take arrhythmia medicine. The Cardiologist on call took me for a heart Echocardiogram. Was wheeled upstairs to the cardiac unit/ward for the test. Once in the room the Dr opened my shirt which revealed my scar. He put the gel on my chest which was very cold and moved the wand around. He said everything looks fine, but would like to monitor me closely for a bit just in case. I managed to fall asleep for a bit. After a few hours of monitoring I was sent home with some headache meds. We snuck back into our room at the waterpark since it was very late at night and went to bed. In the morning once everyone was up we headed downstairs for breakfast.
Castle: pov Kate and Olivia ordered the fruit and yogurt with eggs. Amanda and Alexis ordered the waffles with bacon, the kids ordered the pancakes. Martha and Jim ordered the omelet with a side of potatoes and bacon. Me and Carisi ordered the French toast. The food was so good afterwards we went to the waterpark.
Olivia: pov while sitting by the pool I told Kate that we constantly had to learn new stuff because my line of work was evolving so much. Like the way interrogations are done has changed so much and the way we talk to victims. Kate and Amanda talked about their men for a bit, Amanda's boyfriend Carisi and Kate's husband Rick. The boys and Alexi were watching the kids and going down the water slide. Martha and Jim were chatting in the shallow end of the water with some other older people.
Kate: pov me and Liv were talking about our latest cases we had the one she had sounded ruff. She told me all the great things about being a mother. It turns out Castle had given Carisi some advice about being a father figure/dad to Amanda's kids which he was very happy about. And before you go saying why was Castle giving parenting advice it's because Carisi asked for some.
Amanda: pov it was starting to get close to lunch. We ordered a big pizza and salad which made everyone happy. A short movie was playing in a few minutes so we all headed to the theater room to watch it. I put Billie on my lap and Carisi had Jesse on his lap. Noah was sitting next to us then Liv. Alexis Martha and Jim were at the end of the row. Next to Liv was Kate who had fallen asleep. Castle was next to her. The movie was great afterwards we headed to the arcade area for a few minutes to win some prizes. Alexis gave her point to the little kids which was very nice of her.
Carisi: pov we decided to hit the water park for a bit. Some of the slides were huge. We had decided all of us would leave after dinner since all of us had work or school tomorrow. It was agreed we would all split up for dinner. Me and Amanda were taking the girls somewhere nice, maybe Mexican food. Liv was taking Noah out for mom and son bonding time over Italian food. Castle and Kate were taking Alexis, Martha and Jim out as a whole family to the buffet. At 7 everyone headed to the room to pack up.
Alexis: pov once everyone was packed and ready to head home we said our goodbyes. Dad told Liv, Amanda and Carisi they are always welcome at the Hamptons. The car ride home was okay, not too long grandpa Jim was spending the night.
Kate: pov it had been a few days I showered while Castle made breakfast. He showered while I did my exercises. Then we headed to work. Castle had a meeting later today at black pawn. The chief of police gates called to chat with me and let me know physicals were coming up . We made plans for lunch today since she was free during that time Castle dropped me off at the restaurant on the way to black pawn. The boys were meeting us here and Lanie. The restaurant was a cute soup and sandwich shop. Once the boys and Lanie arrived We talked about life, family and health. She asked how my health is and I said fine, only a few episodes here and there. Lanie said I was telling the truth. I ordered a healthy soup and sandwich. Gates ordered the special The boys ordered the loaded everything sub and tomato soup. Lanie ordered the spicy sub with clam chowder soup.
Esposito: pov after we left the restaurant the 4 of us headed back to the precinct to fill out paperwork and Lanie to the morgue. At 3pm Castle showed back up from his meeting he said it went great.
Ryan: pov nothing exciting happened today besides having lunch with gates.
Castle: pov once home Kate went to read for a bit. Mother would be home late and Alexis had plans with friends tonight. I made a beautiful beef stew for dinner served over a bed of rice. We ate while we watched a movie. For dessert I made some fruit smoothies. They were so good. Mother and Alexis arrived home and told us about their day. Kate went to read some more of her book before bed. I went to write some more pages. to be continued…………

- Olivia -
After closing the windows of the room, Olivia steps out and goes to get some rope, her heels tapping on the tiled floor and crushing the broken glass beneath her. The party vibrates in every room she passes, music echoing off every corner. But all that melted into the background.
As she ties Boris’ hands to the back of the chair, she can smell the alcohol on him, but Boris doesn’t look particularly drunk. He hadn’t even spoken to her, just stared out into the empty space in front of him, a vacant look in his eyes.
Finally, Bastien knocks on the door. “Duchess?” he calls.
“Yes, Bastien, come in,” Olivia allows. In her head she begins to map out how she would interrogate Boris. She hadn’t had enough time to call Jacob; maybe it would have been better to run a background check.
When Bastien enters, his eyes widen as they rest on Boris, then he gives Olivia a look.
“Drake,” she tells him, hoping that would be enough of an answer. Bastien frowns. Olivia didn’t know why Drake had done this either. The fool hadn’t given her any information as to what this man had done. Where was she even supposed to start?
Now she was really wishing she had called Jacob beforehand.
“So,” she begins, pacing in front of Boris. Bastien was at full attention, closely watching both of them. “What happened between you and Drake?”
Boris spits blood to the opposite side of the room. It drips down the wall. “Call the bastard in here. Tell him to explain.” His accent is thick and his voice is tried.
I probably should, she thinks to herself.
Bastien gives Olivia a look. She nods at him.
“Let us shift the conversation,” Bastien begins. “Can I ask how long you’ve known Lady Riley or her late husband?”
“How is that important?” Boris questions.
“Just curious.” Bastien’s voice stays level.
Boris sighs, then leans back in his chair, staring up at the ceiling. “Potter. I met him in college. He introduced me to Riley-”
“I’m sorry,” Bastien interrupts him. “Who is ‘Potter’?”
“The lovely Theodore Blaise.” Boris lets out a rueful chuckle. “You have not seen him in person? The idiot looks like Harry Potter. Stupid glasses, stupid hair.”
“Alright,” Bastien stops him again. “Continue. When did he introduce you to Riley?”
“New York. That one year. I was visiting before I had to go to... Switzerland? Sweden? One of the two. It was lifetime ago. I can’t remember everything.” He pauses to look around the room. “She was... with your King. We saw her in the park. Theo wanted to see her. We waited for the king to leave her before he went up to her hotel.”
Olivia knew that he was talking about the last night Riley had been with the court. But Boris was drawing out the conversation. She didn’t like how slow Bastien was approaching this. Olivia wanted to draw a knife — she had a new one she was itching to use — and force the answers out of him.
“And were you acquainted with Lady Riley before that evening?”
He shrugs. “I think so. Cannot remember well.”
The conversation was boring Olivia. “Can you explain to us why you and Theodore decided to go into Riley’s hotel?” she asks.
Instead of answering her, Boris lets out an exaggerated yawn. He takes a minute to compose himself, shifting in his seat.
“Do you want me to get you a cushion?” Olivia sarcastically asks.
“Yes, but I’d prefer to sleep, actually,” Boris states. “It’s been a long day.”
“Absolutely not,” Olivia begins, only to stop when Bastien comes near her.
“Duchess,” he whispers. “Perhaps it would be better to leave him here for the evening and continue our questions tomorrow morning.”
The pair turn their backs on Boris. “I don’t think leaving him here alone is a good idea.”
“I’ll have someone from my team guard his door. He won’t be able to get out, and no one will be able to come in.”
Olivia nods, but she’s still not satisfied. “And if he spends the night planning which lies he’s going to feed us? If he refuses to comply in the morning?”
“If we sit here and try to force him to speak to us, we’ll only be wasting time, Duchess,” Bastien tries to reason with her. “There’s a chance he’s drunk, which could explain why he says he can’t remember anything.”
“If you are going to let me sleep,” Boris speaks up, interrupting Olivia and Bastien’s little dispute, “please turn off the lights.”
Olivia turns on him. “Neither of us are going anywhere. You’re going to tell me why you came to Cordonia. You haven’t attended more than half of the events, and those that you did attend, you would leave after making a quick appearance. What have you been doing all this time?”
Again he yawns. “I run businesses. They need my attention.” Boris blinks and breathes slowly.
Bastien leans towards her ear again. “His answers are half-hearted. He is drunk. Our efforts will be more fruitful in the morning.”
Olivia turns a displeasing eye on him. She didn’t like the pace Bastien was approaching this at. Olivia was willing to go without sleep to get some answers. Maybe doing everything by herself would get her farther.
But there was truth in Bastien’s words. She hadn’t liked how Boris had given useless answers to questions they’d asked. Maybe in the morning he’ll be more afraid. Maybe Olivia would even get a chance to ask Jacob for a background check.
Both of them leave, but Olivia doesn’t retreat to her rooms until two guards arrive to keep an eye on the door. She uneasily makes her way to bed, sending Jacob a text. More than once she has to stop herself from grabbing a knife and her shoes to go to Boris’ room and finish the job. She gets a message back from Jacob, who says he’ll see what he can find and be there in the morning. Olivia forces herself towards sleep.
...
While she dresses the next morning, ready to make her way towards Boris’ room, Olivia checks her messages every few seconds. There were no updates from Jacob. She waited, wondering what was keeping him occupied, until she decides that she would continue questioning Boris by herself.
Nearing his room, she sees that the door is open. The guards aren’t there, either. Instead, inside of the room, Boris sits near the window, with his hands still tied and a new bloody gash on his cheek. His eyes are more tired than they were the night before.
Jacob is in the room, too, talking to a member of the King’s Guard. Once he sees Olivia, he walks up to her.
“He tried to escape last night,” he says.
“How?” Olivia asks. “I closed the windows and he was tied to the seat.”
“Someone from the outside tried to help him.”
Olivia remembers the man she had seen outside the party last night. She had told security to look into it. Clearly, they hadn’t done their job.
“They were communicating with each other somehow,” Jacob continues. “You’ll have to ask someone else for the specifics, I don’t know the details. His phone was on, or something like that. Someone was listening in on what you and Bas were saying. After you guys left, he probably tried to tell the other dude where he was.”
“How exactly did he try to escape?”
“The person tried to open the window from the outside. They just broke the glass. Bas told me that’s what his guards heard. Then, the guy tried to pull Boris out of the window. Security got into the room before they could make it out, and Boris got a cut on his cheek.”
“And the person who tried to help him?”
“He tried to make a run for it, but they caught him. He’s in custody.”
“Good.” Olivia nods her head, looking again at Boris.
“I want waffles!” she hears a voice from the hall cry. Olivia goes to the door and peers out, seeing Gabriel, Eleanor, and Hana walking in her direction.
“We’ve had waffles for breakfast every day for the last week,” Gabriel says to his sister.
“Okay, fine. Pancakes.”
Hana chuckles and notices Olivia, who steps out of the room and closes the door to make sure the children couldn’t see what was going on inside.
“Good morning, Olivia!” Hana says. “Will you join us for breakfast?”
“I’m afraid not, I’m currently occupied.”
“Understandable.” Hana smiles and the children wave as they walk towards the dining hall.
Olivia goes back into the room. Jacob was waiting for her, and Boris hadn’t moved, but he suddenly speaks in a low, disturbed voice: “Potter wasn’t supposed to die.”
Olivia stops in her tracks. Jacob looks between her and Boris. “Who?” he asks.
“Theodore,” Olivia mouths. Turning back to Boris, she asks, “What do you mean?”
“He didn’t tell us he would be visiting museum. We had been planning the attack for weeks. He refused to answer my calls.”
“So...” Jacob’s eyes go wide. “You were behind the attacks at the Met.”
Boris doesn’t move.
“Answer the question,” Olivia urges.
“Yes,” he finally says. “The ones in Europe, too.”
Olivia and Jacob give each other a look. Boris was giving them answers, and Olivia didn’t even have to threaten him. She looks back at the man tied in the chair, and sees the dead look in his eyes. She doubted that he had slept last night, but his lack of sleep didn’t seem like the only reason he was tired.
“When you said ‘we had been planning the attacks’,” Olivia continues, trying to create an image in her head, “who were you talking about?”
Boris spits blood towards the other side of the room, leaving a red mark on the wall next to the one from last night. “Do you want to guess?”
Excuse me? Olivia thinks to herself. He was dodging questions again. She pulls out a knife and moves closer to him. Boris finally lifts his head, and when Olivia brings the knife to his neck, he cries, “It- it was not- not Liberation Core but another... another section of it.”
“What do you mean? An anti-monarchist group? Was Theodore a part of it?”
“Y- yes! I convinced him to... to join.”
“When?”
“What?” Boris meets her eyes. He looks like a defeated animal.
“You said you recruited him? When did you recruit him?”
“That- that night in New York.”
Boris was shaking. The sight was pleasing to Olivia; it was exhilarating to look at a man who believed he had power whimper at her feet. She’s about to ask another question, but feels a hand on her shoulder.
It’s Bastien. He nods at her, and Olivia stands up straight, keeping the knife at her side.
“If you tell us everything from the beginning,” Bastien begins. “Your sentence won’t be as harsh.”
Olivia gives Bastien a look. Boris looks up at them, a defeated and weak look in his eyes.
“What you will do does not compare to what they will,” Boris states.
Olivia leans in close again. “What I will do will not compare to what the guard or your little group will.”
She stands up straight again. Boris shakes for a few more moments. He takes some uneasy breaths. Olivia sighs; it had just started to get interesting, but Boris was stalling again.
Finally, he begins: “Out of all the monarchies we wanted to get rid of, Cordonia seemed the easiest to deal with. We knew the King was in city for the Engagement Tour. There was nothing we could do, though. In city there are too many people. Can’t get rid of someone without panic. So, I went to meet Potter. We went on walk, saw the King and Riley.”
Olivia sees Jacob writing on a notepad. Another guard had walked in and stood close to Bastien.
“I spoke to him about Cordonia,” Boris continues. “He agreed that it was corrupted, was weak. We didn’t expect to see Riley. But when Potter said she was pregnant, it was perfect opportunity. No doubt she was pregnant with Prince.”
“And so you tried to get rid of her?” Jacob asks.
“No, we kept her away from King and from Cordonia. We knew that if she was pregnant, means Liam didn’t like his fiancée, or didn’t want to be with her. So, she is pregnant with heir, we keep her away, Cordonia’s monarchy will eventually fall.”
“And so you just... made that assumption?” Jacob continues to question. “That His Majesty didn’t like or want to marry Countess Madeleine?”
“Yes. We watched your Social Season. It was clear he liked Riley, and Potter told me he knew the pictures of her with that man were false. So, put dots together, you know King loves Riley, not Maddie. And then, when we bring her to Europe and make her leave the King, we knew we were right. She was too devoted to him. We try to work her mind against him, but she didn’t listen. Eventually she did. Took a few years.”
“And what about the paintings?” Olivia urges Boris to continue. “What did you do those ten years?”
“I’m not there yet,” Boris tells her. “Grab chair, sit down.”
She expertly throws her knife in his direction. It cuts through the fabric on his shoulder, leaving a deep gash. The knife lands on the opposite side of the room.
Boris strains his neck to look at his new injury, but he sighs and looks away. His voice is tired when he speaks. “We went to Europe, thinking that if we talked to King, he would give us something for letting Riley come back. But we never spoke to him. Regina was the one who accepted the meeting. They never tell us why we speak to her and not Liam, but we tell her everything.”
Olivia’s blood boils. The Queen Mother had a much bigger hand in this than she had told Olivia. At least she’s dead.
“We were surprised,” Boris says, putting on a face of mild amusement. “We thought she would ask for Riley, give us bribe, something like that, but she says she give us what we want if we keep Riley away. So that’s what we do. We give her updates on where we bring Riley and how she was doing, and Regina didn’t ask for anything more.”
Boris breaks off to cough. Olivia can hear Jacob’s pencil flying across his paper.
“We were anti-monarchist and we just let that monarchy continue doing its shit. We try to go to Auvernal next. We gave many threats.” He laughs. “Most of them were not true, we never would have done anything like what we said we would, and then Queen of Auvernal tells us that they give us what we want if we do things for them. Same thing as Cordonia, but with this arrangement, we can get back at other countries, too.”
Boris turns to give Olivia a look, as if she understood his motives.
“We attack Monaco, Hidar, all these monarchies, but not Cordonia, not Auvernal. They were... twisted around our fingers. We give them threats, they stay out of our way and give us what we need. It is not difficult to manipulate corrupted people, in my opinion.”
“And that’s how you spent those ten years?” Jacob asks, not looking up from his little notebook.
He shrugs and nods in response. “Yes, pretty much. Potter stay with Riley, make her think everything is normal. But then he get attached to his little family. He said he want to help Riley go back to Liam, but he couldn’t, you see, because he played part in keeping her away. He would have to show himself as villain to his wife and kids. No man wants to do that.”
“So he...” Bastien wonders aloud. “Removed himself from the anti-monarchist group?”
“Yes, something like that,” Boris goes on. “I would call him for updates on Riley and kids, but he never answer my calls. This was... six months ago? Maybe five. So,” he shifts in his seat. “Even without Potter, we kept working. We finish our job keeping Riley away, and Regina still on our side, so we leave that alone. Then, Auvernal says they are angry. Queen calls herself ‘patron of arts,’ says she is mad there are so many Auvernese paintings around world, but Auvernese painters get no credit, she tell us to get them back for her.”
“And that’s when you started the bombings. You started stealing the paintings,” Olivia assumes.
Again, the life leaves Boris’ eyes for a moment. “Yes. Metropolitan museum was first stop. Big place, easy to cover tracks. Many different paintings, no one know if one or two missing, they can think they burn in the attack. So we go there first.”
“But Theodore never told you that he would be visiting there,” Bastien pieces together the puzzle. “And so he died, Riley was injured-”
“And her face went on the news,” Jacob continues the line of thought.
“And our work undone,” Boris completes. “Didn’t know she was in Met, so we couldn’t keep her away. Once the news knew, the world knew. We cannot keep her secret anymore.”
“And then?” Olivia pushes.
Boris sighs, closing his eyes, but he keeps talking, “And then Regina calls us. Tell us to fix it. We say we’ll try. Then few days later, she calls again, say that King knows she work to keep Riley away-”
“During Duke Bertrand and Savannah’s wedding?” Olivia questions.
“Yes, we were the ones who told her Riley was going to try to go to Cordonia. Regina do that work by herself, we just give her information.”
Olivia, Bastien, and Jacob turn to look at each other. They had all assumed that it had been Leo who had given Regina that information. There was so much they hadn’t known.
“She was scared,” Boris continues. “Scared that King would do something, but we say that if the King knows, we are powerless.”
“And so you killed her?” Bastien assumes. Olivia’s head jerks in his direction. That didn't seem likely.
But Bastien’s guess is right. Boris says they did. They had poisoned her because they were afraid she would rat them out to Liam. They took that opportunity to get Auvernese paintings from the palace.
“But then,” Boris goes on. “They find out about Regina’s death, close the borders, we cannot leave. So we have to stay. The paintings were with me. I was... scared someone would find out. So I put some paintings in other rooms to hide them. I thought it would be hard to find one person if there are paintings in five rooms.”
“You put one in Gabriel’s room,” Bastien states.
“Yes. I didn’t know it was his room.”
They fall into silence. The defeated look in Boris’ eyes doesn’t leave, but he fearfully looks between Olivia and Bastien, waiting for them to do something.
Olivia doesn’t move. All this time, everything she needed to know had been right under her nose.
Bastien leaves, Jacob goes over his notes, and Olivia moves to retrieve her knife from the other side of the room.
When she passes by Boris, in a broken whisper he tells her, “I never meant for Potter to die. I never meant for Gabe and Ella to get hurt.” She can hear the tears in his voice.
While Boris felt bad for Theodore and the children, Olivia’s heart was aching for Liam. Boris had been the one to bring Liam so much pain. She wanted to get rid of the man right now, but stopped herself. Whatever was going to happen to Boris after today was going to depend on Liam’s decision.
...
Olivia had difficulty tracking down Liam and Riley. She found Savannah, who said that they had gone on a picnic with the children after lunch. When they came back, Olivia brought the two of them into Bertrand’s office.
Both smile brightly, their hands clasped together. There’s a ring on Riley’s finger. Olivia knows what that means, and she congratulates them. Liam tells her that an announcement has already been sent out, and the nation knows about the engagement already. The pure joy on her friend’s face was nothing like Olivia had ever seen. She had never felt happier for him.
She told both of them to sit down, that she had news for them. They give her a confused look, but take a seat next to each other.
Olivia tells them about Riley’s last night with the court, everything that Boris and Theo had intentionally done. She tells them of their agreement with Regina, how they had been the ones who informed her Riley was going to Bertrand and Savannah’s wedding. She told them about the arrangement their anti-monarchist group had made with Auvernal, how they demanded the group steal paintings back for them, how Theodore hadn’t known about the paintings, how his death was an accident, how they had killed Regina fearing that she would tell Liam about them, how Boris couldn’t leave Cordonia and tried to hide the paintings.
She tells them everything he confessed just hours ago, and Olivia watches Riley’s face fall, watches every tear drop down her face. She watches Liam’s fists clench.
“Where is he now?” Liam asks, his voice rough.
“With Bastien,” Olivia states. “He said he’d put Boris in the cells.”
“Good,” Liam comments, fuming. “Let him rot. I’ll speak to the King and Queen of Auvernal. They are no longer welcome here.”
Riley doesn’t move. She blinks away her tears, but they keep on falling. Liam wraps her in his arms.
Olivia leaves the room, giving the couple a private moment. There was a light feeling in her chest as she walked away, seeing that all the obstacles her friends had to go through had finally been overcome.
She was more than happy for Liam and Riley and was beyond excited for the Anointing Ceremony tomorrow. Though she doubted that anything terrible would happen, she wanted to make sure Liam’s happy ending with his family would go through. He had already waited long enough for the happiness he deserved. His engagement with Riley was the first step, and the Anointing Ceremony would finalize it.

I Put A Spell On You (Because You’re Mine) [4/11]
Summary: Denali is in love with her very much straight best friend, but a break up later and one drunken night together changes everything.
Prefer reading it on AO3?
“Here you go Nali, warmed up your tea for you with two spoons of honey, just the way you like it.” Denali looked down at the cup of tea that Rosé slid in front of her, looked up at the older woman and smiled weakly in return. “Thanks Rosie.” She raised the cup to her lips and blew the surface before taking a tentative sip, sighing at the familiar taste. Rosé settled in the seat next to her at the kitchen island, cradling her own cup of coffee.
After Denali’s break down, Rosé had held her for a long while before Denali had pulled away, embarrassed at being seen in her most vulnerable state. She had tried to apologise to Rosé for ruining her top with her tears, but had promptly been shushed. The older woman had pressed a comforting kiss to her forehead and told her to wash up while she warmed up their breakfast.
An hour later, they were now sitting in the kitchen with a few breakfast pastries laid out on the counter with warm cups in their hands.
Denali wasn’t sure how to approach the situation, unsure of how to talk about everything that had happened so far and instead chose to stir her cup of tea listlessly. Rosé herself was silent as she drank her coffee, and Denali could sense the older woman watching her carefully, as if afraid that she would break down again.
The longer the silence dragged on, the harder it felt for either of them to broach the topic.
Shifting uncomfortably in her seat, Denali reached out for one of the pastries on the counter and for the first time, noticed that her new favourite cinnamon rolls were there.
“You went to Paul’s to get these?” Rosé paused mid drink and smiled softly at Denali.
“Yeah, I walked past it and thought that you’d like them. A good pick me up after-“ Face flushing, Rosé cleared her throat and sipped at her coffee.
Denali’s face warmed too, but she smiled back at Rosé. She reached out to take one and bit into it, letting out a sound of appreciation at the cinnamon sweetness flooding her tastebuds. Swallowing, she leaned against Rosé.
“Thanks Rosie.”
And for now, that was enough.
———————
Rosé was packing her bag, trying to figure out how many sets of clothes she should pack when Denali flopped down onto her bed.
“How many swimsuits do you think I should bring?” Rosé raised a brow at the woman perched on her bed, her hands clutching onto a few swimsuits. The two of them were going to the Muse’s lake house for a short get away with their friends tomorrow. It had been a bit of an impromptu decision after Kandy had proudly told her friends that her family had won a boat in a raffle.
(“What the fuck kind of raffle has a boat as the first prize?”
“I don’t give a shit about that, all that matters is that I got a boat now!”
“Kandy, it’s your parent’s boat, not yours.”
“Shut up Mik, no one asked you.”)
“Nali, we’ll only be there for three days, I don’t think you’ll need that many. And besides, you only have one body.” Rosé said as she looked through the clothes she had set aside. Four sets of clothes sounded like a safe number, and now that she thought about it, maybe two swimsuits. Denali pouted at Rosé ignoring her, nudging her with her toe.
“I know, but I have so many new ones and I just can’t decide which ones to bring! Can you help me pick, Rosie?”
Sighing, Rosé turned to look at Denali as she laid out her swimsuits on the bed. She pulled the older woman closer, and Rosé zoned out a little at Denali’s touch.
It had been a few days since their second night together, and they still hadn’t addressed it, instead choosing to keep quiet and ignoring the incident once more. Rosé herself wasn’t sure how to feel about everything. She knew without a doubt that she was physically attracted to Denali, and that she cared deeply for her since they were best friends, but anything more than that? That was still up in the air, and until she knew for certain, she wasn’t exactly keen on talking about it. Besides, Denali hadn’t said anything either. Almost nothing had changed between them, except for the occasional moments when Rosé’s touches would linger longer than they should, or whenever she had to struggle against the urge to touch Denali.
Rosé still had her moments of weakness. Her dreams involving Denali were as explicit as ever, but she wasn’t willing to risk anything based on on her lusting after her best friend.
Not when Denali was so important to her.
“So? Which ones should I bring? No wait, how many are you bringing?”
Rosé cleared her throat, trying not to focus too much on the warmth of Denali’s skin. “I’m bringing two for myself. Probably will let the first one dry in the sun or something if I need to.”
Resisting the urge to rip herself away from Denali or pull her closer, Rosé instead chose to focus on the swimsuits laid before her, which caused her to groan internally. Now she was picturing Denali in each skimpy set, and that did nothing to help Rosé.
“Should I try on each of them for you to see? Would that help?”
Her eyes widened at Denali’s innocent suggestion. God did she want to say yes, and maybe she could help Denali take them off too, preferably with her teeth-
“No, it’s fine. It’ll take too long.”
She picked two at random and passed them to Denali without a second glance. “These two.” Rosé said, throat a little hoarse, before turning away and haphazardly shoving her clothes into her bag.
Denali looked at Rosé, confused for a split second at her behaviour before shrugging, oblivious to older woman’s inner turmoil as she returned to her own room to carry on with her own packing.
Maybe she’d bring an extra one, just in case.
———————
It was going to be a long drive from town to the lake house. The group of friends consisted of eight, and they were split between three cars, so thankfully there hadn’t been a problem with space.
Denali had to wake Rosé up at 5.30am to ensure that they’d be on the road by 6.30am, knowing that she would be a difficult one to rouse so early in the morning. The two had shoved their bags into the trunk after having a quick breakfast of granola bars, piled into Denali’s car and driven off, reaching the Pitstop diner mid way through their drive to meet the others at around 10.30am. The pair had arrived just as Kandy was parking, music blaring with Symone and Mik singing off key to the song. They all converged in the middle of the parking lot in hugs and entered the diner together, knowing that Utica, Olivia and Joey were already there, two adjacent booths secured for the eight of them.
Whenever the eight of them were together in one location, it was always an event. As a group they had ordered several plates of pancakes and waffles and other savoury foods, like sausages and hash browns, with tall glasses of different juices and milkshakes. Olivia had voiced concerns about them suffering a sugar crash later on, which was instantly stopped when Utica playfully kissed her on the cheek, the taller girl having been amused by her almost motherly ways.
The group had been split between two tables, with Utica, Olivia, Joey and Kandy at one table and Rosé, Denali, Symone and Mik at the other. Despite the split, they still managed to pass around the various plates and catch snatches of each other’s conversations, essentially being extremely lively in the almost empty diner. The staff had been more entertained than anything else with the life that was injected into the usually empty place.
Denali was having fun, thankful for the distraction from her own thoughts. She had been happily watching the way Kandy was flirting with Joey, who was trying to act indifferent to the Latina girl, despite the quirk at the corner of his lips. It was no secret that Kandy had the biggest crush on the boy, having drunkenly proclaimed it multiple times. Joey on the other hand had at first been perturbed by her advances, but he had soon warmed up to her, having been charmed by her vivaciousness. Denali remembered one night when Joey had confided to her that he might be catching feelings for the brash girl, but didn’t want to let her know just yet.
She remembered how envious she had felt with how their love story was panning out, and wistfully thought of her and Rosé and how theirs was a fairy tale that would never happen.
A forkful of waffle, sausage and hash brown drizzled in syrup came into view and she blinked, looking at the owner of the hand. “Hey Denali, try this!” Symone said, pushing the fork in her direction. Denali stared at the fork, then looked back at the shorter girl.
“No offence Symone, but this looks like a heart attack waiting to happen.”
Symone laughed, encouraging the other girl. “Trust me babe, you’ll love it. You like dipping your fries in your milkshake right? Think of it like that, mixing the salty and the sweet.”
Denali laughed and leaned forward, taking the forkful of food into her mouth and chewed. The sticky mix of savoury and sweet food made her beam and she nodded vigorously. “You’re right, that’s actually pretty good!”
“Yeah, the perfect combination of sweet and salty, just like how you’re the perfect mix of sweet and spicy, babe.” Denali choked a little before laughing at Symone’s line.
“Girl, where did that come from?”
“Just an observation. Anyone with two eyes would be able to appreciate a cute girl like you.” Symone leaned forward and winked at Denali, causing her to blush. Before she could respond, she felt the weight of an arm being draped around her shoulders and turned to look at Rosé, who had a stiff smile on her face.
“Now Symone, calling Denali cute doesn’t really do her justice. I’d say that she’s a beautiful woman, right Mik?” Denali’s eyes widened at the compliment, her heart skipping a beat. Where was this coming from?
“Absolutely Rosé, she’s gorgeous.” Mik winked at Denali, and she laughed, face flushing even redder at the attention she was getting. She shrugged Rosé’s arm off of her and stood up, missing the look of disappointment from the older woman’s face when she did.
“Well, this gorgeous girl is in need of the bathroom before we leave. Kandy girl, let’s go before you forget, and drive Mik and Symone up the wall with your complaints later.”
Fifteen minutes later, the group left the diner, leaving behind a huge tip to the staff for their troubles, and piled into their respective cars for the remaining drive to their destination.
———————
It was about 2pm when they had finally reached their destination, and everyone had practically rolled out of their cars in relief. After settling down and deciding who was sharing rooms with who, with just a little squabble over Kandy not being able to share a room with Joey (“Not appropriate Kandy. You’re both not even together!” “Not yet we aren’t.” “Hey!”), they decided to spend the remaining time relaxing by the shore. That’s when Mik had the idea to try jumping into the lake from the small cliff that wasn’t too far off. Immediately, Denali had been game for it and tried to pull Rosé to join in.
“Come on Rosie, let’s go! It’ll be fun.” She pleaded, trying to tug the other girl to go with her.
Rosé shook her head, not to be deterred from her position on the lounger. “I don’t know Nali, I’m quite comfortable staying here.” Denali rolled her eyes. “You mean you’re comfortable being boring.”
Rosé gasped in mock offence, clutching at her non-existent pearl necklace. “How very dare you! Now, I’m definitely not going.” The younger girl pouted, trying her best to persuade Rosé by widening her eyes and sticking out her lower lip.
“Pretty please, Rosie?”
The older girl faltered at Denali’s face, but still shook her head, laughing as she ruffled the brunette’s hair, who squawked indignantly at her. “Not a chance, baby.”
Denali pouted sulkily, and was about to drop back onto the lounger next to Rosé when Symone pulled her back up. “Girl, come on! You don’t need Rosé to have fun. Let’s go!” Rosé felt a flash of annoyance at the way Symone was touching Denali, and barely registered that she had indirectly called her boring.
Denali hesitated for a second before shrugging and following Symone and Mik as they moved off. She stopped after a few steps and turned back to Rosé.
“Last chance Rosie, come on!”
Rosé bit her lip, staring at Denali’s outstretched hand before finally conceding.
“Fine.”
Denali beamed when Rosé got up and excitedly grasped her hand, pulling the older girl along with her as they trekked up the grassy hill. Denali rambled as the group climbed up, not noticing that the higher they went, the paler Rosé got. Honestly, the older girl hadn’t actually wanted to go jumping off cliffs anytime soon, no matter how small they were, which was the main reason she had said no. She didn’t know why she had said yes in the first place when Denali had asked the second time, though it probably had something to do with Symone convincing Denali to go with her that had irked Rosé.
She didn’t know why it had annoyed her, but it just did.
When they finally reached the top, Rosé’s hands were feeling a little clammy, despite one of them being held tightly in Denali’s. The younger woman hadn’t noticed and was excitedly watching as Mik jumped off the edge and into the clear water below, followed by Symone. Turning to look at Rosé, her smile faded when she saw her nearly white face and finally realised how cold the hand she was holding felt. She took a step closer to Rosé and took hold of her other hand.
“Rosie, you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
Rosé gulped and shook her head, not wanting to seem weak. “I’m fine. I want to do this.” Denali sighed, gripping her hands tighter in response. “No you don’t, you’re afraid of heights. I’m so sorry I forgot about that. I should have known better.” Looking down at how guilt ridden Denali was, Rosé took a deep breath, her mind made up.
“Well, then it’s a good thing that I have you here with me.” Denali frowned. “Are you sure?” Rosé nodded in response, her mind made up. She knew that if Denali was by her side, she could do anything.
“Yes, but can you hold my hand?”
Denali smiled, nodding, and they moved to the edge together. They stared down at the waters below, Mik and Symone shouting encouragements to them. With Rosé’s hand held tightly in Denali’s, they faced each other and counted to three before jumping together. There was a moment where all Rosé could see was Denali’s smile and dimples, her heart full of warmth instead of fear, before they crashed into the water.
———————
“Hey Nali, do you think we have enough marshmallows?”
Denali walked over to the pile of marshmallows in the large bowl that Olivia had in her hands. “Liv, if we had anymore, you and Utica could make a mini fort to sleep in tonight.” Olivia rolled her eyes at the light ribbing from Denali and tossed one at her. “Very funny coming from the one who brought them in the first place. I’m pretty sure there are still at least six unopened jumbo packs.”
“Well, you can never have too much of a good thing.” Denali shrugged, catching the marshmallow Olivia had tossed at her and popped it into her mouth.
They were preparing the snacks in the kitchen for the campfire while the others were outside attempting to make a fire at the pit. She could hear Kandy and Rosé arguing over what music to play on the boombox and giggled. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence that the two tended to butt heads when it came to music.
She turned back to Olivia and noticed how the other girl was staring at her neck.
“Denali, do you have something to tell me? Like is there a new someone in your life that I don’t know about?”
Denali frowned, confused. “Huh? What do you mean?” Olivia tapped at her neck. “It’s a little faint, but I’m pretty sure that’s a hickey right there.” Denali’s eyes widened, and she instinctively covered up the spot with her hand.
“Errr, it’s an old mosquito bite, that’s all.”
“That must have been one hell of a mosquito then.”
Denali cleared her throat and picked up the bowls of snacks on the counter. “Yeah.”
“Did the same mosquito also bite you all over your body? Or was a it swarm?”
“What?”
“When you took off your shirt earlier at the lake, I saw more of those faint marks all over your chest and stomach.”
Denali cursed under her breath, wishing that Olivia wasn’t so observant. She couldn’t exactly tell her that Rosé was the one who had left all those marks on her now, could she? That would make for an awkward conversation that she was definitely not ready to have with anyone, least of all Olivia. She loved the girl, but Olivia had a knack for giving well meaning advice that people were usually not ready to listen to.
“Just an overeager Tinder date, that’s all.” Olivia’s eyebrows shot up. “Tinder? Since when?”
“Since last month.” Exactly when Rosé and her had first slept together, but she wasn’t about to say that since it was a lie anyways.
“Oh. Good for you then. Just be careful okay? Sometimes you can’t be too careful with people you meet on that app.”
“Right, of course.” Denali smiled at Olivia, feeling a little guilty at having to lie to her close friend as they both balanced the multiple bowls of snacks and went outside.
The campfire was roaring and Kandy had clearly won the argument about what music to play by the sounds of it. They set the bowls down and sat down in the remaining empty seats, Olivia with Utica and Denali next to Rosé. As soon as she sat down, she felt the older girl pulling her to her side. Looking over, she felt her heart clench at Rosé’s warm expression, the fire casting a glow on Rosé’s face. Denali had to restrain herself from reaching out to touch her and instead distracted herself by grabbing a skewer and some marshmallows, intent on toasting them.
She listened to the happy banter around her as she roasted the marshmallows over the fire, basking in the warmth of the crackling fire and the weight of Rosé’s arm wrapped around her waist.
For now, this was enough.

Finally a chapter that's a little lighter and not quite as intense or emotional as the others.

Part 48 -  Girl Talk
Tumblr media
Riley awoke with a small smile across her lips.  Had last night really happened?  Maybe she should pinch herself to make sure she wasn’t still dreaming?  Nope, not a dream.  She chuckled to herself.  How on earth did Liam always manage to sweep her off her feet?  She had been wary to make the trek back to Cordonia.  Okay, he had been more than wary, she had been downright reluctant to ever set foot in the country again.  She’d had her heart broken twice there, and she wasn’t in the market to have it happen a third time.  And although she woke with a sense of peace for the first time in months, she, admittedly, still had a whole lot of worry lingering inside of her.  But, just as he always did, Liam went far beyond any of her expectations.  First the office, then his impromptu visit and his talk of wooing her again – it wasn’t what she had expected at all.  She had been so certain that all they could ever be together again was co-parents, yet, here he was changing trying to change her mind yet again.  Could this really work?  Was this finally her second chance?  Could they finally have the happily ever after that she had so desperately wanted back when they first met?  She shook her head, trying to bring herself back to reality.  Her life would be forever different now.  Her wants, her needs, none of it mattered because she had an entirely new focus to think about now.  Her only focus was the health and safety of their lima bean.
Her hand drifted down toward her belly, grazing the still unnoticeable bump.  She rolled over in bed and paused for a moment, waiting for the familiar feeling of nausea to come over her . . . but there was nothing.  That was odd.  Most days she was awoken by the rumbling sensation of nausea deep within her stomach, but today there was nothing except butterflies - the good kind.  Her mind drifted back to Liam once more, and she released a sigh.  The evening spent with Liam played back in her head.  A courtship?  The idea alone caused a shiver down her spine.  It wasn’t traditional . . . at least not by any sort of American terms, and she wondered what exactly Liam had in mind.  As she recalled, dating in Cordonia was lavish, and while she admitted the exciting rendezvous she went on with Liam when they first met took her breath away, it was highly impractical to go along those lines of dating given the current situation they found themselves in.  After all, they weren’t just dating to see if they liked each other and to have fun.  It was dating to see if they could have a future together.  Talk about a lot of pressure.  Would she be ready to commit to the future with him?  Truly commit?  A life forever bound to Cordonian culture and society?  A life as queen?  She mentally chided herself.  Mere moments ago she was in a state of euphoria, and now here she was thinking of everything that could possibly go wrong.  She shook her head, pushing the uncertainties out of her mind for the time being.  All she could do was take things one day at a time.  They had four weeks.  Four weeks to give their relationship another chance.  She wasn’t going to think about any of the what ifs or maybes until then.
She ambled down the staircase slowly, the smell of something delicious making its way out of the kitchen.  The fact that she hadn’t woken with the nagging feeling of nausea was something to celebrate in itself.  The fact that she suddenly had an appetite was an added bonus.  She quickly wandered into the kitchen, mouth salivating.
She spotted Andy putting on a pot of coffee as music blared from her iPhone.  She shimmied around the kitchen like she owned it, dancing along without a care in the world.  Riley could barely contain the smile on her face.  She looked absolutely ridiculous, but she also looked happier than she had ever seen her.  What more could she have wished for her best friend?
“Good morning, Future Mrs. Beaumont,” Riley sing-songed loudly over the blaring music.  “Someone is up bright and early this morning,” she teased her.
Andy jumped a little, throwing a hand to her chest.  “You scared the crap out of me,” she gasped.  “What are you doing up so early?”
Riley shrugged.  “I heard some movement down here and figured I’d see who was up,” she smiled.  “Little did I know that the Future Mrs. Beaumont was up and about dancing her way through the kitchen,” she teased.
Andy beamed at Riley, as she turned to the coffee pot that had just chimed.  “I love the way that sounds,” she sighed contently as she poured herself a cup of coffee.  “You need to call me that all the time, okay?” She chuckled.  “I still can’t believe it,” she grinned widely as she continued to flutter around the kitchen.  “Being engaged has me feeling so . . . domestic,” she laughed.
“Apparently,” Riley agreed, her head turning toward all the dishes.  “My gosh,” Riley looked around the full countertops.  Andy must have been up for hours already.  There were dishes of pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, waffles and even some grits bubbling on the stove.  Andy had even managed to whip up a batch of sweet tea.  In all the time that she had known and lived with Andy, she had never showed that she had a domestic bone in her body.  She could barely pick up after herself let alone make an entire meal by herself.  “You did all of this?”
“I couldn’t sleep,” she said excitedly.  “I wanted to call my parents at a decent hour in New York time,” she explained.  “Then once I had, I just couldn’t stop talking,” she exclaimed giddily.  “I chatted with mom for over an hour about wedding plans.  Did you know that my sneaky fiancé had my parents in on the whole thing!” She squealed.
Riley’s eyes widened in surprise as she shook her head.  “I didn’t.” She hadn’t actually been privy to the fact that there was about to be an engagement at all.  The last she knew, Bertrand had talked him out of proposing.  Then again, that had been months ago.  It amazed her that Maxwell had kept such a life-changing decision a secret, especially from her.  But it certainly didn’t surprise her that Maxwell had opted to include Andy’s parents in his plan.  Family was something very important to him, and considering that his own parents were long gone, she could certainly see why he would want Andy’s parents to be involved.  After all, they would become his parents, too, once they got married.  “How on earth did he manage that?”
“He took their numbers from my phone,” she explained.  “He’s such a sly dog,” she chuckled.  “Well, you can imagine what an awkward telephone call that was considering that I’d only just told them about him a few weeks prior,” she mused.  “He ended up meeting with them while we were in New York!  Can you believe that?” She asked.  “I mean, I was so distracted with everything that was going on with you and the baby that I didn’t realize he was off schmoozing with the parentals,” she said merrily.  “My parents didn’t say a single thing,” she murmured.
“Well, aren’t proposals supposed to be a surprise?” Riley asked.
“Yes, well if that was the intent, he most certainly nailed it,” she gushed.
“How did they react to the news?”  Riley asked.  Andy’s parents were well-to-do New Yorkers, but they weren’t the least bit snooty.  They were relatively open-minded and supported Andy in every endeavor she had . . . even if her decisions were a bit off the wall at times.
“As any parent would I suppose,” she shrugged.  “Mom told me they were a bit surprised about how quickly our relationship had been progressing, but she admitted that Maxwell was absolutely endearing.  He even made a whole presentation as to why he would be the best suited life partner for me,” she sighed dreamily.  “Mom said it was adorable.  He had the ring with him and everything.  He told them that he wanted them to feel like they were a part of the whole thing, even though they’d be back in New York when it actually did happen.  Mom said they were so worried at first since he seemed a bit . . . eccentric, but in true Maxwell form, he won them over with his charm,” she said a bit wistfully.
“And your dad?” Riley asked
“Dad thought he was insane!” Andy laughed.  “But he said he could tell that Maxwell was an honest guy who really did care about me.  It helped that Maxwell tried to butter him up with the offer to take him fishing when they finally made it out to Cordonia.”
“Does Maxwell even know the first thing about fishing?” Riley asked.
“He knows absolutely nothing,” Andy laughed.  “He was just so desperate to make some sort of connection with my father that he fudged his way through.  Of course, my father saw through him right away.  He said that any man that would go through so much trouble to pretend he liked fishing had to have it bad for his daughter.  So, when he asked for their blessing, he found it rather hard to tell him no,” she murmured.
“I’m sure,” Riley nodded in agreement.  “He’s a pretty difficult guy to turn down,” she said thoughtfully.  Riley couldn’t help it, but she started to get misty-eyed over the entire thing.  Maxwell and Andy were going to have such an amazing life together.  She just knew it.  She admitted that when they first got together, she was a tad bit wary.  Maxwell had just come back into her life, and she was worried that if things soured between him and Andy, she’d be forced to choose between the two, and she hated to admit it, but her roommate had the upper hand.  But after only a few days in, she knew there was something different about their relationship.  They both genuinely seemed to care for one another, and it was apparent, that the connection went far deeper than just a casual fling.  Still, she couldn’t believe that her two best friends were settling down - with one another no less.  Who knew that it would only take a plane ride and a few thousand miles for their love connection to happen?
“Hey, no crying,” Andy admonished.
“These are happy tears, I promise,” Riley said, wiping the tears from her eyes.  “I can’t control these damn hormones,” she chuckled lightly.  “I’m just so excited for you guys,” she murmured.  “It’s been a whirlwind, hasn’t it?” Riley commented.  Thinking back on everything that happened over the last few months, things had changed tremendously.
“I’m so happy you’re here,” Andy said as she placed a glass of water in front of Riley and sat next to her.  “I can’t imagine going through all of this without you,” she smiled lightly . Riley forced a small smile out.  She didn’t want to remind Andy that she didn’t know how long she’d be staying in Cordonia.  She didn’t want her friend to get her hopes up that this was a permanent move.  “So? Any wedding plans?  Did you guys set a date or anything?” Riley asked, taking a sip out of a glass of water.
Andy shook her head.  “We’re hoping for a long engagement,” she explained.  “I want my parents to be able to fly up here and get to know Maxwell, and I also want to be a bit more settled as a couple in our own space before we get married.  The house won’t be ready for a while, but I don’t really like the idea of being newlyweds with Bertrand lurking around at every corner,” she cringed at the thought.
Riley could relate thinking back to Bertrand chaperoning her date night with Liam.  She knew that his protectiveness came from a place of love, but she couldn’t help but think that he was also being rather overbearing.  Even her own parents hadn’t been as apprehensive about what she did.  Bertrand took protectiveness to a whole new level.  “Yeah, tell me about it,” she rolled her eyes.  “Liam stopped by last night, and Bertrand was like a guard dog.  You know, he actually had the audacity to require me to leave the door open.  He acted like we were a bunch of horny teenagers who were about to jump each other at any given second.”
Andy laughed.  “Well . . . can you blame him?  You did lock yourself in your bedroom last time around for days on end,” she eyed Riley suggestively.
“Shut up,” Riley frowned.
“It’s just such a Bertrand thing to do,” she said in between side-splitting chuckles.  “He’s delusional to think that things can’t happen when the door his open,” she snickered.
Riley blushed a little.  “Liam and I aren’t even at that point . . . in our . . . thing,” she sighed.  She didn’t really know how to explain the dynamic between them.  Their conversation last night hadn’t exactly solidified anything between them except that they would court one another for four weeks.
“Thing?” Andy arched an eyebrow.  “Girl, you’re having his baby, you two are way more than just a thing,” she added knowingly.
Riley let out an exasperated sigh.  “I don’t really understand what we are right now,” she said with a slight blush.  “He kind of threw me a curveball last night.”
“Ooooh, do tell,” Andy leaned closer to her eagerly.
“So, as you know, he came over last night . . .” Riley trailed off.
“And?” Andy leaned even closer.
“And, he wants to try and court me,” Riley said simply.
Andy snapped back with a look of confusion on her face.  “Court you?  What is he ninety?  That sounds like something out of a 1950s show.” Andy burst into a fit of giggles.  “You realize how lame that sounds right?” She gasped out in between laughs.  “You’re joking.  You guys are way beyond courting.  You’re about to have a kid.  He needs to put a ring on it and seal the deal.”
“Will you stop and be serious for a minute?  This is a big deal, okay?  I’m not sure if I’m ready to do a whole courtship thing,” Riley admitted quietly.
“Well yeah, I mean, courtships are a thing of the past.”  Andy crinkled her nose.
Riley couldn’t help but roll her eyes.  “Look, things are complicated right now, and I know we need to figure out what the heck we’re going to do about our future, but the idea of a courtship is kind of . . . intimidating, ” Riley shrugged.  “I need your advice.”
Andy looked at her.  “I’m not exactly a dating expert, Riley.  You of all people should know that.  Pre-Maxwell, I bounced from relationship to relationship.  I mean, I never even thought I’d be remotely close to settling down until I met him.  I used to rely on things like Tinder to find guys, and those relationships never exactly ended well,” she mused.  “Nowadays, no one does the whole dating with a purpose thing,” she reasoned.  “Welcome to the generation of random hook ups and STDs,” Andy snorted.  “I didn’t really think about finding my life partner, you know?  I mean, at our age, who really thinks about settling down with the whole white picket fence.  But I met Maxwell, and then, something changed.  I mean, yeah at first, I kind of thought, well, he’s just going to be my random European hook up that I think back on when I’m in my fifties wondering if I ever did anything adventurous in my life . . . but then, I don’t know.  We started hanging out and actually started to get to know one another, and . . . well, I fell for him.  These guys . . . they were raised differently than us.  Yes, there are so many rules . . . so many freaking rules about proper etiquette and manners, but that’s what made them who they are you know?  You found a guy who actually wants to take the time to court you,” she raised her hands in quotation marks.  “As ridiculous and old-fashioned as it sounds, that’s way better than some random douchebag trying to slide into your DMs,” she reasoned.
Riley chuckled a little.  She was right.  Gone were the days of guys opening doors and bringing flowers on the first date.  She knew very well that guys like Liam were hard to come by, which is why she fell so crazy in love with him the first time around.
“So, are you actually going to go along with it?” Andy asked.
Riley nodded slowly.  “I told him that I would,” she sighed.  “Do you think that’s the wrong decision?” she asked, suddenly feeling so uncertain.
Andy paused thoughtfully.  “I can’t make that decision for you, Ri.”
“I know that.  But I want your opinion.  Do you think I made the wrong choice?  What if this whole thing blows up in my face?  Maybe co-parenting was the way safer option for us.  I mean, what the heck do I know about courtships?”
Andy shook her head fervently.  “Riley, just stop for a second.  Breathe.  No.  Co-parenting was so not going to work with you two.  You guys have too much history.  Honestly  . . . as stupid as courting is . . . I think that saying yes to it was the first smart decision you’ve made . . . well a part from moving back here,” she nudged her as she took a sip from her coffee cup.  “Hey, maybe this is a good thing,” she reasoned.  “Your ‘courtship’ might actually teach you guys how to actually communicate with one another instead of jumping to conclusions all the time,” she teased.
Riley threw her hand up to her chest in mock indignation.  “Ouch.”
“Just being real,” Andy said, waggling her eyebrows.  “So after you agreed to the courtship, did Casanova spend the night?  Please tell me you at least fooled around a bit.”
“Oh my God, you’re too much,” Riley shook her head.  “Yes, Andy we fooled around so much with Bertrand pacing right outside the door,” she snorted as she rolled her eyes.
“Like I said, things can still happen with the door open,” Andy winked at her.
“Stop being so crude.  We don’t have overnight privileges,” Riley assured her.  “He was a perfect gentleman who came with the best of intentions,” she said.
Andy snorted as she poured herself another cup of coffee.  “Right, and it was those gentlemanly intentions that got you in trouble,” she motioned to Riley’s stomach.  “But then again, it’s not like he can knock you up again if he let those gentlemanly intentions slide for a night.”
Riley sighed as she shook her head.  “We are nowhere near that point in this courtship thing.  Even though I can’t get pregnant again, sex will still complicate things.  Emotions get involved and it gets messy.  I just . . . I just don’t have the luxury to be careless anymore.  Not when I have the baby to think about.”
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry, Ri.  You know I’m just messing with you right?  I’m still on my engagement high and just want you to be happy, too,” she nudged her shoulder.  “So when does this courtship begin?”
“Today.” Riley answered.
Andy choked a bit on her coffee. “Wow, he certainly doesn’t waste any time,” she mused.
“Well . . . that’s the thing . . . we’re kind of working on a specific timeline,” she explained.
Andy arched an eyebrow.  “Explain,” she said simply.
“He wants me to give him four weeks to see if our relationship can be salvaged,” she began.  “So, I said I would try it out for the four weeks.”  She shrugged.  “I mean, I’m going to be here anyway, and he’s been really trying.  The least I can do is give it a shot for the lima bean’s sake.”
“And after four weeks?” Andy asked hopefully.
“And after four weeks,” Riley paused.  “I don’t know,” she furrowed her eyebrows.  “He did say that if I don’t think our relationship will work out, he won’t pressure me anymore about staying in Cordonia.  He’ll let me go back to New York and raise the baby how I want.  I mean, I guess if it doesn’t work out, we’ll just go along with the original plan of co-parenting and just move on with our lives.”
Andy grunted in disapproval.  “Yeah, right.”
“What?” Riley asked.
“You will never just move on, Riley.  Not when a baby is involved.  No matter what, that baby is half Liam’s, and no matter how much you want to believe you’ll be able to move on with your life and co-parent like it’s no big deal, it won’t work.”
Riley sat up a bit indignantly in her chair.  “What are you talking about?  Why won’t it work?”
“Because you’re head over heels crazy about this guy.  I know it.  Maxwell knows it.  Bertrand knows it.  Liam knows it.  The only person who is fighting this is you,” she smiled sadly.
Riley paused, considering her words for a moment.  Riley was so up in the air about everything, and the damn pregnancy hormones were making things worse.  “I’ve really made a mess of things, haven’t I?” She said sadly.
Andy shook her head.  “Oh, Ri.  I didn’t want to make you feel bad.  It’s hard to maneuver through something like this.  I mean, I wish I could give you a textbook answer that would apply to this scenario, but I can’t.  I can’t imagine going through what you’re going through,” she admitted.  “I know I’ve been just as pushy as the guys about you and Liam, but I want you to know that no matter what happens, you’ve got me, okay?  I’m always going to have your back.”
“I know,” Riley nodded confidently.  “Same for me as well,” she offered.
“Look, I didn’t want to kill the mood.  I just want you to go into this courtship thing with eyes wide open.  Give the guy a chance.  Let loose a little,” she placed a hand on her shoulder, willing Riley to look at her.  “I know you’re scared, and I know there are a whole lot of things that need to be figured out, but please, just give him a chance, okay?  For him to take the risk of you going back to New York with the baby . . . he must have a whole lot of faith and love invested in this relationship.”
Of that Riley was fairly certain.  Liam had made it very clear that he loved her and their little lima bean.  She wanted desperately to believe that things will work out.  Andy was right.  She needed to give things a fair shot and she needed to open herself up to the idea of the three of them being a family.  “No, it’s okay.  Maybe I needed the tough love,” she shrugged, smiling sadly.  Riley took a strong whiff in the air around her, and changed gears for a second.  “What’s that smell?” She felt hunger pains rumbling around in her stomach, and it was a welcome sensation.  She had gotten distracted with their conversation and had forgotten about the hunger pangs she had awoken with.  She hadn’t had much of an appetite in weeks, but something Andy had cooked proved to be too much of a temptation to resist.
“Oh crap,” Andy said, jumping out of her chair.  I forgot I left the croissants in the oven,” she said, running over to the stove.  “I’ll never hear the end of it from Bertrand if I somehow burn down his kitchen,” she muttered.  “I’m sorry, I know all sorts of smells are ten times worse now that you’re pregnant,” Andy apologized.  She looked around the kitchen, her eyes wandering over the multitude of plates and dishes.  “Ugh,” she cringed.  “I know all this stuff must be making you feel absolutely nauseated, she frowned.  “I honestly didn’t think you’d be up for at least another hour, so I figured it would be safe to get all of this cooking done before you woke up.  I can open the windows to let the smell fade out,” she offered.
“Actually . . . I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think today is going to be a good day,” she said hopefully.
“Really?” Andy asked skeptically as she pulled the croissants off the baking pan. “That will be like the first day since you found out you were knocked up,” she mused.  “Maybe your spawn is happy to be back in the land of his conception,” she laughed.
Riley narrowed her eyes at her best friend.  “That’s not funny,” she whined.  Admittedly, the same thought had run through Riley’s head when she had first woken up.  She thought that the change of scenery and timezone might have forced her body to reset itself.
“Well, whatever it is, I hope it sticks,” she crossed her fingers and waved them in front of Riley’s face as she passed by to pull out a couple of plates.  “Dare I ask if you’d like some?”
“Well, I mean, I’ve only been starving for the last few weeks,” Riley chuckled.  “Plus, it’d be a tragedy if I let Maxwell and Bertrand eat all of this food all by themselves,” she motioned around her.
Andy laughed and started putting some bacon on her plate.  “Everything but the eggs?” Andy asked.
“Actually . . . the eggs smell sort of delicious,” Riley said thoughtfully.
Andy looked at her in surprise.  Riley hated eggs.  It had been a food aversion she had developed when she was a kid.  She wasn’t sure what it was about it that made her hate it, but eggs were just never that appealing for her.  It didn’t matter how it was cooked – fried, boiled, baked . . . it didn’t matter.  Eggs were just not her thing.  “You’re joking?” Andy asked.
“I wish,” she shook her head.  “Mind if I have some?”
“Are you sure that’s such a good idea?  What if you . . . ya know . . . upchuck it?” She asked hesitantly.
“Gross,” Riley wrinkled her nose in disgust.  “Can we not talk about upchucking when I’m not nauseous for the first time in weeks,” she sighed.
“I just don’t want you getting a bout of that hyperemesis stuff and have you wind up in a Cordonian hospital,” she explained.  “Especially since you know what,” she said as she motioned to her stomach “isn’t exactly common knowledge.”
Riley sighed.  She knew Andy was right.  Just because she was feeling a bit better, didn’t mean that she should push it.  Winding up in the hospital in New York wasn’t exactly newsworthy.  Landing herself in the hospital here with Liam undoubtedly by her side, yeah, that would be front page news.  She wasn’t exactly ready for a media storm just yet, especially with things so up in the air about their relationship.
“Ugh, you’re right.  Just a little of everything and no eggs.  The last thing I want is to feel queasy before my  date with Liam,” Riley finally acquiesced.
“Speaking of your date, where is he taking you?”
Riley shrugged.  “I’m actually not sure.  “We agreed that he’d pick me up around eleven . . . but that’s all I pretty much know,” she explained as she started to dig into her food.
“I like that he’s keeping it mysterious,” Andy said thoughtfully.  “It shows that he really wants to make things special for you,” she said cheerfully.
Riley nodded in agreement.  “I never really thought of it like that,” she smiled.  “You’re right, you know.  I really need to give him a chance.”
“Well, duh,” Andy said.  “Don’t you know I’m always right,” she said, trying to keep a straight face.
The two ate in silence for several minutes, before Riley looked at her best friend and smiled softly.   “Andy?”  Riley asked quietly.
“Yeah?”
“Thank you.  For talking me off the ledge earlier,” she smiled softly.  “I know it sucks to get wrapped up in all of this chaos, especially when you’re about to embark on one of the most exciting times of your life with Maxwell,” Riley said.  “So I appreciate you being here for me . . . for us,” she trailed off.
“Of course, I mean, you’d do the same for me right?” Andy said honestly.
Just as Riley was about to agree, the doorbell chimed from the main entrance.  Riley’s eyes bulged as she looked at the clock.  “Oh no, he’s like two hours early,” she said as she jumped out of her seat.  “I’m not even ready.  I still have morning breath and bed head,” she exclaimed.
“Go on and get ready,” Andy laughed.  “I’ll stall him with all this food,” she motioned around her.  “Men can’t say no to food,” she reasoned.
Riley smiled at her friend, kissing her on the cheek.  “Best friend ever,” she exclaimed happily as she ran out of the kitchen.
“And please, do something with your hair!” Andy called after her.

The Breakfast Club
Chapter Six-Library Day
Summary-The gang finally meet and this chapter will go right along with the movie. 90% of the dialogue and plot are from it. This is nothing like the previous gloomy chapters; I actually laughed several times while writing this (hint: Drake).
Hope you enjoy!

Tumblr media
Dear Father...I accept the fact that I had to sacrifice a whole Saturday to think about who I am. Truth is...You see me and everyone else as you want to see us...in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions.  You see us as an heir, a bitch, a commoner, a failure and trash... Correct?  That's the way we saw it at ten o'clock this morning. We were brainwashed......
Olivia enters through the double doors of the old palace library. The room is large, brightly lit by small circular windows on the upper tier. Old books surround the outter walls and several shelves throughout the room. There are six wooden tables in the middle, two rows of three each, that include two chairs. A more modern library is on the first floor and replaced the old one several years ago, so there are no computers or technology present.
Olivia scrunches her face up and brushes imaginary dust from her arm. She takes a seat at one of the tables in the front row and inpatiently waits for an explanation of why she has to be there.
Maxwell and Riley enter a few moments later, a little nervous. They wondered if Constantine was planning to cause more trouble for Riley.
Maxwell walks up to Olivia's table, who is sitting with her arms crossed, eyeing the pair. "Why on earth are you here?" she asked with annoyance.
Maxwell pulls his letter out and starts to show her, when Liam walks in, surprised to find others there, as well. Riley immediately recognizes him and Olivia and becomes star struck again. She contemplates whether they are assholes like the King; she is already getting that vibe from Olivia, but, Liam appears dark and sullen. He walks past them and takes the seat next to Olivia.
Riley steps behind Maxwell to avoid any further confrontations from anyone else today, she did not want to be noticed. Maxwell lays the letter on their desk and asks if they got the same message.
Olivia slides it in front of her, taking a moment to glance, before pushing it back to him, "What is your father up to Liam?" she asks contemplatively.
Liam leans over and places both elbows on the table before rubbing his hands over his face several times, "Who knows".
Maxwell places his hand on Riley's back and they take their seats behind Olivia and Liam.
The door slams open as a drunken Drake strolls in. He begins tipping books off a shelf as he continues his way further inside. He notices the four, sitting quietly, taking in his excitable entrance. He has a pair of black shades, that he slowly takes off to get a better look at their faces, then grimaces. He's slightly tipsy, but, manages to walk up to Maxwell and Riley's table. He motions for them to get up. In an effort to avoid drama with him, they both get up and move to the table on the opposite side.
Drake falls back into the chair Riley just left and props his feet up on the table.
Liam and Olivia turn around briefly to peak at him, then look to each other snickering over his theatrics.
A tall, muscular guard enters the library, with a look that suggests he hates his job. He stands before the five, studying them for a moment with squinting eyes, "well...well...well...let me be the first to congratulate you for making it on time."
Olivia speaks up with a snarky tone, "what are we doing here, I've got better things to do on a Saturday than sit here with these clowns?" She gazes over briefly at Maxwell and Riley.
The guard rests his hands on his hips with both thumbs tucked into his waistband. "I have been ordered to keep the five of you in here while their majesties are in Krona today." He walks over to an empty shelf and grabs a small stack of blank paper and pencils then begins to pass one to each, "you are to write an essay, in no less than a thousand words, who you think you are."
Drake leans back in his chair and spits up in the air, catching it with his mouth. Olivia looks like she's going to gag.
"My name is Vernon, I was asked to keep you in here until the King and Queen return...you will not be disruptive and you will not be treated like a prince, a duchess, a lord, or... a common street criminal", he says while knocking Drake's feet off the table.
Drake then lays his head down and closes his eyes, Vernon slaps the top of the table, "...and you will not sleep."
Olivia raises her hand, "um sir, I believe there has been a mistake...I'm not a defective and don't belong in here with them", she motions behind her.
Vernon ignores her and walks back to face the group again. " breakfast will brought in since many of you missed it", he eyes Drake.
"Also, this essay, should not be the same word written over and over again, am I clear Mr. Walker?"
Drake smirks, "crystal".
"Good, maybe you all will learn a little about yourselves today....anyone have any questions?"
Maxwell raises his hand and stands, "will there be more pancakes for breakfast, because I will need extra syrup and maybe some wet towelettes."
"Sit down Beaumont."
"Yes sir", Maxwell slinks back down into his chair.
"Any more questions?"
Drake sits up in his chair, "yeah, does Donald Trump know you raid his wardrobe?"
Vernon gets a smug look on his face, "I'll give you the answer to that question Mr. Walker, next Saturday when you're pulling guard duty with me......don't mess with the bull young man or you'll get the horns." Vernon turns around and makes his leave.
Drake raises an eyebrow, "that man....is a twat waffle."
Maxwell glances over at Drake confused, "What's a twat waffle, are they good?"
Drake scoffs, "Don't worry about it Beaumont."
Riley's nerves have gotten to her again, not sure why she is even there. She begins chewing loudly on her fingernails, drawing the attention of the entire group who turn to her. She looks up, embarrassed by the stares.
"You keep eating your hand, you won't be hungry for breakfast" Drake says dryly.
Riley annoyed with his comment and his behavior thus far, spits the nail out at him.
Drake glares at her, "I've seen you before."
Riley swallows hard and turns away from him.
"Well I haven't....are you another one of Maxwell's drunken floozies?", Olivia says with disdain.
"No!" she replies offended.
Liam looks over at her, "then who are you?, he asks sincerely.
Maxwell answers before she can speak, "This is Riley and we're just friends...and no benefits have been involved in anyway."
Olivia rolls her eyes and mumbles, "sure Maxwell".
A maid enters the library with a cart full of pastries, fruit and orange juice.
Maxwell jumps up first and runs to get his plate. He is disppointed that there is no pancakes, but, loads up his plate with danishes and blueberry muffins. He sits back and Riley oogles his plate, surprised he's still hungry from his pancake extravaganza at breakfast earlier. He offer her an apple, but, she declines. Liam and Olivia peruse the selection and make their way back to the table.
Maxwell looks up briefly to observe his surroundings and the people he is spending his Saturday with. While chewing a mouthful of food, "Hey guys, I guess you could consider this the breakfast club."
Drake leans back in his chair and sighs, "Breakfast club?.....this is going to be a long day."
As the three eat, Maxwell starts playing with his spoon and fork. He sticks them both in his mouth pretending he has tusks. He turns and looks at Drake who is staring at him.
Maxwell lets out a small laugh, "It's the shits huh?"
Drake continues to glare at him and Maxwell takes the utensils out of his mouth.
Drake turns and crumples up the blank paper on his desk and throws it between Olivia and Liam, sitting in front of him.
They both acknowledge it, but, continue to ignore him.
Drake not happy by Olivia's unresponsiveness, starts singing loudly, "nah nah nah nah nah nah nah...."
Olivia places the tips of her fingers on both sides of her head, "I can't believe this is happening to me."
Drake abruptly stops singing. "Oh shit! What're we supposed to do if we hafta take a piss?"
Olivia disgusted, "please".
"If ya gotta go..." Drake unzips his pants, "ya gotta go."
Everyone turns to Drake.
Olivia is beyond shocked at this point, "Oh my God!"
Liam gives him a stern look, "Hey Drake, you're not pissing on the floor!"
Drake waves him away, "Don't talk, don't talk...it makes it crawl back up."
Riley is astounded by the way Drake is acting, "Is he always like this?"
Olivia still repulsed, "No......he's worse!"
Liam interjects, "he must have been drinking, usually he's brooding around the palace, but, get's a little more wild when he's drunk."
Drake pulls it out of his zipper preparing to pee. Olivia stands up, seething, "you start pissing and you're dead before the first drop hits the floor."
Drake gasps mockingly at her and blows a kiss, "you're pretty sexy when you're angry..grrr."
Drake turns to Maxwell, "Hey Beaumont, why don't you go shut the door and we'll get the Duchess here... inpregnated."
Olivia drops her jaw and glares at him.
Liam turns around now, not amused by Drake's comment, "knock it off Drake."
Olivia, still standing, places both palms on Drake's table and leans over, "If I lose my temper, you're totalled."
Unfazed, Drake questions her, "totally?"
Olivia nods, "totally."
Riley looks around Maxwell at Drake, "Why don't you just shut up, nobody here is interested."
Liam agrees with her, "yeah, just because you're drunk doesn't give you the right to be an ass to everyone...just cool it."
Drake scoff at him, "it's a free country your highness."
Olivia sits back in her chair and tells Liam to just ignore him rather than allow him to get a rise out of them.
Drake chuckles, "sweets...you couldn't ignore me if you tried.
Olivia rolls her eyes.
Speaking to Liam and Olivia still, "So..So! Are you two like boyfriend and girlfriend.....steady dates....lo-vers....come on your highness...level with me...do you slip her the hot...beef...injection?"
Both turn around furious at him, when Olivia screams, "Go to hell!"
Liam tells him, that's enough.
Vernon yells from the hallway, "Hey, what's going on in there?" He mumbles to himself, "smug little pricks."

who dis?
#firstpost seems more daunting than it needs to be. Got myself all creative blocked up so here is a little diddy to get to know me better..
Tumblr media
Are you named after anyone?
I am actually named after Jessica Wakefield from Sweet Valley High
When was the last time you cried?
tbh, I tend to flip from emotionless to SUPER emotional like 0-60. Sometimes no response, sometimes (like this afternoon) I see a beautiful pond surrounded in nature, being natural and beautiful, water sparkling in the sunshine and the tears just roll.
Do you have kids? If no, how many do you want?
No kids atm, but a couple kiddos would be nice in the near future
If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
..like.. what.. ? am I just like a duplicate of me? Like am I the same person I am now and would I be friends with someone JUST like me? Or am I someone else? Who am I? Like, I enjoy spending time on my own?
Bottom line, I like me.
Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I wish I was a lot better at expressing how I feel.
Things that still bother me - my wife and I had a discussion about proposals and who would ask who. We landed on me asking her, which I did and am SO happy about, but the reason behind it being that I am so poor at expressing emotions that she was afraid it would affect her confidence in my response.
For a first TMI moment of the blog, I have so much anxiety in my ability to express myself that I can’t even manage to make any “noise” during sex. Doesn’t even matter that I am my most comfortable self with her, STILL struggle. A work in progress for me I guess.
Funniest moment throughout School?
There was a time when we were at a beach party when I was 17, the RCMP showed up to break it up and snag any and all intoxicated minors they could. The tide had recently come in, but where we were was a little dip in the side of the cliff so the path back to the road was water-covered. So someone peeks around the cliff to see the two Mounties wading through the water. This party crew are country-folk and are 100% ready for this situation with a wooden ladder that leads up the side of the cliff into a field close to where all the vehicles are parked. As party-goers are running through the field to cars, someone shouts, “PIT PARTY” and everyone heads towards the local Pit. Along the way someone with a truck steals a round bale from a field and uses it to create the BIGGEST bonfire I’ve ever seen.

How is your relationship with parents?
My Mom is one of my best friends in this world! My Dad is an odd case, he struggles with my sexuality, I understand that it is because of where and when he grew up, he is never outwardly rude or mean to me, he’s a quiet country guy, he was at our wedding, he gave me away with my Mom, he’s kind to Olivia, he’s kind to me, he doesn’t understand but recognizes that it is real. I love my Dad, I really do. I’m proud of my Mom for educating him and ensuring that he is present and polite. I get frustrated from time to time and I have cried a lot of tears about it. Our relationship can be strange but at the same time hasn’t changed. He’s been a great Dad and he’ll be a fantastic Grampy. I have to check myself because there are people who are much worse off than me. I get jealous of Olivia sometimes because her Dad is so sweet to her and treats me like a daughter so easily, but my Dad has never been the soft spoken lovey type. We’ve hugged twice in my life. One of them was when I was leaving for England with a one way ticket and no foreseeable return plans and one was when he was jokingly blocking my path and I used it as a disarming mechanism to scoot through.
What’s on your mind?

Meet Jessie Hotchkiss!!!
Tumblr media
Of all the people I've gotten to interview over the last year or so, I would have to say Jessie Hotchkiss was one of the sweetest people I've gotten to know. I met Jessie on Twitter after entering the 2013 Acuvue Contest (see my entry here!). It turns out this 19-year-old, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native happens to have a lot in common with me. Not only do we share a love for music, but I also found out that she also has relatives that live near to where I live. Someday I hope to meet Jessie in person and jam out with her. In case you were wondering, Jessie, happens to be the first out of seven people to be chosen as winners of the 2013 Acuvue Contest. To learn more about Jessie, her music, and her adventures with Acuvue, please follow her on her Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Ask.FM pages, or Youtube channel. P.S. While on YouTube, don't forget to watch Jessie's winning audition video for the Acuvue Contest or Jessie's Mentorship Episode with Demi Lovato!!!

Did you grow up in a musical family? What age/instrument did you learn first?
Absolutely not! My sister was the first one to start learning an instrument in 6th grade. Once I got into 6th grade, I started playing the trumpet. So I was about 11 years old.
When you found out that you won the Acuvue contest, how did you/your family and friends react?
I actually got a call around 7 am on a Saturday and ignored it because it said “unknown," so I ignored it and went back to bed. They called again about an hour after that and left a voice mail. But I woke up around 9 forgetting about the voice mail and checked my email first, and that’s where I saw (1) in my inbox and looked. I had to stare at it for a good 30 seconds before I realized that it wasn’t spam! I literally started sobbing and ran into my mom’s room and told her that I won! She didn’t know what contest I was talking about because I enter a ton! So I explained and she couldn’t believe it! I then realized that it was Acuvue trying to call me and I listened to the voicemail. They told me to respond to the email to make sure I’m aware that I’m a winner. My friends didn’t really understand the concept of the contest. They were excited but they didn’t realize how big of a deal it was until the mentorship video came out. It still feels like it didn’t happen, but I’m glad it did!
What was it like working with Demi Lovato? Was she the mentor that you originally hoped for? What's the best advice that she gave you?
It was pretty surreal. It's like when you only see someone online and on TV, it’s almost like you don’t believe they exist (as weird as that sounds). But she is super sweet and genuine and a goofball. She had this aura that she gave off that immediately made me feel comfortable. I was nervous for about the first minute of meeting her, but after that, I was totally fine. She honestly was the reason I entered. I told myself I’d be content with whoever was chosen for me as long as I overcame my fears by the end of the day, but I didn’t actually think I was going to be set up with her. It’s funny because I originally wasn’t going to enter just cause it’s such a huge contest and I thought, “What are even the chances?” but I’m glad I at least tried because you have just as much of a chance as getting chosen as anyone else does as long as you enter. As for advice, I feel really dumb but I honestly can’t remember a whole lot…it was an overwhelming day overall. But something I learned that day is to just own it up on stage. You already know exactly what you’re supposed to do, so why be nervous about it?
Why do you think your video was chosen? For people who want to try out next year, what advice would you give them while making their videos?
I’m honestly still trying to figure that out. The Acuvue crew has told me so many times that it really stood out and I was obviously chosen for a reason. When I watched it back when I was about to submit the video, I didn’t think it was all that great. But when I compared it to the others, something did seem a little different about mine, and I’m not just saying that I truly believe that. For anyone who wants to try out next year, you really want to try to make it stand out. What I did is I watched the submissions for the 5 previous winners from 2012 and asked myself, “What is it about the videos that made them stand out?” I literally watched them about 5 times each. What I found out is they didn’t get off the topic of what they are trying to accomplish. I actually watched every single submission for the 2013 contest and what a lot of people did was talk about their pasts and how maybe they’ve been bullied or depressed (etc.) and they don’t focus on what their dream is. Acuvue wants to know about it and HOW bad you want it, they don’t want your life story and then only one sentence about what you want to do. They want to know how you got started with it and how much you want to progress in either your passion or how to get over the fears that are preventing you from taking your passion further. So I’d suggest that you leave out your life story and focus on your dream; THAT is what they want to know about.
Has life changed for you much since winning the Acuvue contest? What does a current day in your life look like?
As for just day by day, not really. Although since the mentorship I got to attend the 2013 Teen Choice Awards and got to walk the blue carpet (which was a guaranteed prize along with the mentorship). But I also got to do a separate event with my mentor that no one else got to do. So that definitely wasn’t expected. Being able to go to LA three times this year has been amazing; I just wish I could stay there, haha! I actually recently saw Fifth Harmony in concert and got recognized by about 15 people. They just congratulated me and/or told me how jealous they are, which is something I’ve been hearing a lot lately. A typical day for me consists of waking up and going to classes (it differs every day since I’m in college so it’s not the same schedule every day) and depending on what day it is, I go to work, come home and do homework. Then usually play guitar or keyboard till about midnight and may make a cover once a week or so. It’s not too eventful. Most of my friends go to schools far away so I don’t really have anyone to hang with here.
What was it like going to the Teen Choice Awards? Did you run into a lot of celebrities?
I did! It was honestly one of the craziest/surreal things ever (even more so than the mentorship). Our day started around 6-7 am (depending on when we got called to the room to get makeup done) and it didn’t end till about midnight when we got back to our hotel and chilled on the rooftop. The day started with us all one by one getting makeup done. After, we went into the room next door to get our wardrobes (which we picked out the day prior out of a crazy amount of choices)! Then we had to go downstairs to do a photoshoot! I ended up being the last one so it was a big rush trying to run all over the hotel and whatnot. But the photoshoot was very interesting considering I’m so awkward on camera. But they played Demi in the background which made it better, haha! Once that was taken care of, all of us winners hopped on a little bus to go to the TCA site and film a commercial with Shay Mitchell. No one was there yet so we got to see everything while it was clear. Shay got dropped off and I think we all got a little star-struck (except Olivia since she was her mentor). We took several takes of it and then immediately had to go back to the hotel because there was a party on the hotel roof with the mentors, out families and the CEO’s (along with their families) of Acuvue. Unfortunately, only Dwight, Joe and Shay could attend. But it was incredible meeting them all! After that was done, all of us (except Anthony and Olivia) got back on the minibus and drove to the TCA site again. We were dropped off where all the celebrities were and it was the craziest site ever; I have never seen so many paparazzi in my life. We stood by the gate where everyone was dropped and saw about every single celeb that attended. I met Ed Sheeran and other artist and it was insane how close everyone was to us. Even One Direction casually walked inches away to get around us. But we went in, watched the show, got out and went to an after-party consisting of free arcade games, bowling, and endless chicken strips and pizza! One of the best days by far.
In 10 years you will be...
Hopefully, I’ll be in a successful band, whether it’s a new band, already existing one, or be a backup musician for a solo artist.
Besides music, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love drawing! I used to do it high school a lot, but since I’ve been in college, I don’t have as much free time as I used to. I’m also really into making bracelets. I can make them out of string and rubber bands so if you ever want one, Hit me up!
What's your favorite quote and why?
“To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream; not only plan but also believe.” I really like this quote because I think so many people just act upon something, fail, and then give up. You’re going to be told “no” a lot in order to get where you want to be. I have, yet that doesn’t stop me. Even though I had this amazing experience happen to me, there’s a little voice in my head that likes to get at me and make me think that I’m not going to end up getting far with music, but I try to shove it aside. Don’t give in to the voices. Listen to your heart, not your head.
Do you write your own music? If so are we going to hear it soon on your YouTube channel? If not, what's your favorite cover that you've done and why?
I’ve been trying to write some original stuff lately. I actually do have an original song on my channel, but it’s a very rough version and has been touched up a bit over time since I posted it. I may end up deleting in the future and reposting the version I have now. I’m also working on another one now, but I can’t think of how to make it flow. I have lyrics, just not the music. So I’m working on that currently. I think my favorite cover would actually have to be “Not Gonna Die” by Skillet. I don’t sing, but I’m playing electric guitar and that’s originally what I started out on. I haven’t played one for a few years so it was fun going back to it and playing some rock!
