Ronan & Kavinsky - Through the Looking Glass, Down the Rabbit Hole
Kavinsky shrugged. "It's a substance party." Ronan growled, "They don't have substances in New Haven?" "Not like these. It's Wonderland! Some make you big, some make you small..."

WIP Wednesday 💭
here's a snippet of my declan outside pov of pynch (set of vignettes exploring declan's trust of one adam parrish)
Text from Ronan I need a ride to church
There were two baffling things about this text from his brother. One, Ronan texted him. Also, Ronan texted him without profanity, a middle finger, and with more than one letter. Declan often found the ever infuriating letter k more often than even a response from his brother. The second unknown was why Ronan was willing to spend time in the Volvo with Declan driving. Anytime they did have to travel together, Ronan was quick to explode in profanities about Declan’s A-safety rating driving habits before threatening to throw himself out while they were cruising at a respectable 65 on the highway.
Declan immediately thought the worst. He must have totaled the BMW. He tried calling Ronan once, twice, but gave up before the third time with no answer. He tried texting, knew that was useless, but tried anyway. No answer. Typical. He could feel the acid creeping up his throat, the anxiety of having to deal with the insurance mess, the unknown of what kind of deathtrap vehicle Ronan could dream up next.
So when he pulled up to their childhood home on Sunday morning, he was shocked to see the BMW sitting unscathed in the driveway.
“What the fuck,” Declan grunted under his breath, unsure if he was happy to see the vehicle or angry that Ronan put him through hell on the lead up to absolutely nothing.
“See?” Matthew grinned from the passenger seat. “The car is fine! You had nothing to worry about.”
“Sure.”
Declan shot off a text to Ronan, he did not want to get out of the car, and scrolled through a few work emails while he waited for his brother to show up. He let the anger simmer and slowly dissipate, working on breathing through his nose. He would not be the first to blow up today, and let Ronan paint him as the bad guy to Matthew. He could already see it now, Ronan shrugging innocently at Declan, a quiet and sarcastic I just wanted more time with you, bro, and Matthew would hear none of its irony.
Two or three minutes passed and Declan looked up at the front door just in time to see a shadow pass behind the glass. Good, kept them waiting long enough. The front door open and his brother wasn’t alone.
Behind Ronan, still in the shadows of the foyer, was clearly Adam Parrish, in wrinkled clothes, dark circles under his eyes, and a smirk. He was saying something to Ronan, who laughed genuinely, the kind of laugh Declan heard most often when Ronan was making jokes at Declan’s expense. Something else passed between them, a look Declan couldn’t quite place, it was too quick.
Ronan hopped off the top of the porch onto the gravel, heading toward the Volvo.
“Lynch,” Adam called from the doorway, stepping out and using his back to keep the screen door open.
Ronan turned, patted his pockets, and then tossed a set of keys, no doubt the ones that belonged to his BMW, to Adam, who caught them deftly.
What. The. Fuck.

An unhinged recap of Ronan's homosexuality
Hi! This once again belongs to my big Raven Cycle analysis, click here for the masterpost.
Again, there's not much room for speculation here, but i had to write it for completionist purposes. I apologize for certain metaphores used, for the most part when I was writing this I was going through it (brain was fried).
Here u go (also spoilers for Greywaren)
d) Ronan Lynch
Next to Adam, Ronan is the only other canonically queer person in the Gangsey. A flaming homosexual with a car fetish (because there was something unbelievably sexy about cars at night). Ronan is the original Be Gay, Do Crime. (Adam is the Be Crime, Do Gay to that.)
You get the gist; he is seriously involved with one guy but used to have some bits of self discovery (not only on the topic of his sexuality) with another, which ended because that guy kidnapped his brother because despite being gay, Ronan unbelievably was not into him. I’m sorry, I really do not want to dissect the entirety of Pynch in here, that would go way too far and I bet there are so many people who could do and have done this better than I ever could, so I’ll stick to elaborating some more on how we find out that he is gay, considering I think he doesn’t say the word until Call Down The Hawk.
In the first book, Ronan does not get a pov, maybe because Maggie needed some more time to figure out how to make a character subtly and thirst over another character in a secret and homosexual way. Still we get some small hints, based on conversations with other characters, or just his behavior in general.
Gansey: “From now on I need all of us to be straight with one another” Ronan: “I’m always straight” Adam: “oh man that’s the biggest lie you’ve ever told” This, of course, is legendary. Ronan is gay, he jokes about it, Adam knows it. I genuinely cannot tell whether Ronan had come out to his friends, whether he just did it through jokes like this etc. If the latter is the case, I honestly doubt that Gansey would have known, as oblivious as he is.
We also have the case study of Declan and his Ashleys. Ronan seems to despise the heterosexual standards that his brother portrays, but it is not clear whether that’s because of heterosexuality, or because of Declan, because let’s be honest, in book one, Ronan would hate, absolutely hate, anyone Declan dates out of principle, because Declan’s just a bitch, or a manwhore, as Gansey would say.
Then it gradually all becomes very much obvious in The Dream Thieves. We got the parallels with religion, his nightmares (his night horrors/self-hate maybe being because of internalized homophobia?) and of course the secrets. The secrets you keep from yourself, the very obvious metaphor. Plus Kavinsky literally calls him the f-slur. You will very easily pick up on that if you’re not as oblivious as I was when I first read the book (I was in my Declan Lynch era with a tummy-ache ok?), but it is explicitly resolved in the epilogue. There is no more room left for ambiguity, thank you Maggie for ending the queer speculation yourself, within the book.
Then there’s gender, of course there’s gender. Gender is like Tad Carruthers, just always materializing out of nowhere, especially when you just want to stay away from it because it’s fake and a massive bitch.
Ronan definitely identifies as male, but if you look at this a certain way he is somehow trans or defies the entire concept of gender either way, considering he is a supernatural being, spirit, entity, that was just socialized as a boy. Ronan is like Cabeswater, or Lindenmere, which both don’t have a gender, obviously, they are forests. The Greywaren is often referred to as an “it”, which makes sense when people don’t know the Greywaren is human, but something about the entire thing smells very trans rights to me. Also that eldritch horror, not quite human at all,  jumble of dark matter thing in Greywaren was just so gender of him.
Ronan would wear a crop top, there’s no doubt to me.

Rules: list eight shows for your followers to get to know you better.
Tagged by @fenharel-enaste! ❤️
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For sure formed much of my younger brain. I am that Saoirse Ronan still from Little Women saying "Women—!" except it's "Buffy—!"
2. Rome. I watch this at least once a year. It probably helps that I'm not a Romanist at all, so I don't nitpick the way I would something I am more of an expert in, but this show has some of the most memorable characters for me.
3. The Wire. Look, I know how annoying it is for people who haven't watched The Wire to get told ad nauseam that they HAVE to watch The Wire. I was one of those people. And then I watched The Wire. It's not exactly an abolitionist show, but it really helped unwind some of the copaganda I grew up with (ahem SVU).
4. Battlestar Galactica. I am rewatching this now, and I am more upset than ever before about the tragedy of Boomer. Also, I will always love Saul Tigh.
5. Station Eleven. I wept at both the grief and beauty. I can be very critical of adaptations of books I love, but I thought this was phenomenal.
6. The Killing / Forbrydelsen. This is sort of cheating, because I'm putting both the U.S. and Danish versions of this show, and they really are quite different shows, in my opinion. But I love them both. Both are incredible meditations on grief, love, trauma, and "imperfect" motherhood. Forbrydelsen is literally the reason I learned Danish.
7. Halt and Catch Fire. Aside from everyone in it being very hot, it has a gorgeous perspective on time and growth that I simply was not expecting and haven't felt in another show. I can't explain it very well, so just watch all four seasons tonight, thank you.
8. The Good Place. I can't even think about the finale to this show without crying. It also made me think deeply about the nature of punishment, judgment, and my ever-present fear of death, while also giving us the greatest trolley problem joke I've ever heard.
Honestly, only eight shows was really hard for me, because I LOVE television and do not believe in movies except the ones I've already seen.
Tagging with no pressure: @brasideios, @ainulindaelynn, @fikali, @mimbotomy, @alethiometry, @findusinaweek, @aquila-v, @dinluke, @ladyinthebluebox, @reiverreturns and I'll stop there so I don't spam everyone I know (I just really like television, okay?) but would love to hear from anyone else who wants to play!

1 and 3 for violence ask game 👀
1. Character everyone gets wrong:
Okay, so for trc its blue (TO ME). And it's not entirely the fandom's fault. from bluesey era (particularly in trk) onwards, blue's character becomes almost one note and this is reflected back in the fandom, except worse. Blue is a person with many ideals: she is a proud feminist, she does get angry, she loves nature, she has many hopes and dreams that are out of reach, she cares about her friends and family A LOT, and she has a full personality.
Unfortunately most people boil her down to: sassy + in love with gansey. or in fics where pynch is the central ship, she is given the ‘sassy best friend of the mlm’ ship without much personality.
Not to mention, quite a few people demonize blue because of her (rightfully) angry reactions to some of the things gansey and the other boys do/say. such as the prostitute convo, adam and (implied) gansey calling her a ‘raging feminist’, a lot of things ronan says to her, etc. People really try and make it seem like blue is unreasonable and angry for no reason. MEANWHILE they like to forget that blue was raised in a house full of canon woc and implied woc who have probably taught her about how the world tends to treat women, especially woc and she probably would have experienced it for herself while working at different jobs. Not to mention that her dislike of aglionby boys comes from the fact that calla has to work at aglionby and she herself has had to deal with aglionby boys being shitheads at her job. And so many in the fandom tend to ignore gansey, adam and ronan's misogyny in favour of putting them up on pedestals or even just make it seem like a simple joke that blue was being overdramatic about. (Personally it's why I don't really like bluesey but that's a convo for another day).
All in all, I hate how she's treated in the narrative and in the fandom.
3. Worst take I have seen:
I kind of answered it in number one, but to be honest I don't really end up seeing a lot of utterly awful trc takes because I do my very best to avoid them and instead follow great blogs instead.
But I think the worst I've seen were the blue stuff I mentioned, some sarchengsey stuff (sarchengsey only makes sense to me in a certain way because bluesey is already kinda weird to me) and, worst of all… (throws up) adam parrish cop headcanons. which. I have no words.
Unrelated to trc, but so many hunger games takes are just so horrendously incorrect. Like they have no literary comprehension whatsoever.
In short, whoever made that adam in his cop era headcanons post, I am shooting you because what in the hell!

Do you like anything about the GOTG movies? I think you've reblogged stuff from them once or twice
I do! I complain about them a lot due to MCU synergy (which is less the movies fault and more of an overall Marvel issue) but there is a lot that I liked:
Zoe Saldana as Gamora is BEYOND perfect casting. She's absolutely fantastic in the role & IMO, gives the most underrated performance in the whole MCU
The character arcs for most characters are done quite well - Rocket, Quill & Nebula are the obvious standouts but I enjoyed what was done with Mantis & how Drax ultimately ends up
Visually, they're incredibly fun. Some of the best imagery in the MCU comes from this trilogy
The GOTG movies, easily, have the tightest character work. It's very fun to see how they all interact in vol 1 vs the end of vol 3; you actually get to see them grow and develop into a family
The humor is honestly better than most of the MCU. I'm not saying it's perfect (see: the green whore joke in vol 1) but eh. It's better than anything in an Avengers flick
Pom Klementieff is incredibly fun like IDK I find her very engaging as Mantis. You can see how much she's enjoying that role & it just bleeds through the screen
I like how we can see Gunn developing as a director in these movies & (in my opinion) getting better with each film
The villains. THE VILLAINS. I know a lot of people had issues with Ronan but I think the point of him was missed. Kurt Russel was just fun as Ego & I lost my MIND when it was revealed he killed Meredith Quill. Chukwudi Iwuji is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors & vol 3 really just cemented that for me.

The Dream Thieves Quotes
July 3rd aka Adam Parrish’s birthday! Anyway, here are some quotes that are my favorite and/or resonate with me.
“He always said Ronan differently from other words. As if he had meant to say another word entirely—something like knife or poison or revenge—and then swapped it out for Ronan’s name at the last moment.” (2)
“The second secret was perfect in its concealment. Ronan did not say it. Ronan did not think it. He never put lyrics to the second secret, the one he kept from himself. But it still played in the background.” (4)
“They were not quite conventionally handsome, but they were interesting.” (8)
“In that moment, Blue was a little in love with all of them. Their magic. Their quest. Their awfulness and strangeness. Her raven boys.” (11)
“When Ronan had been smaller and more forgiving of miracles, he’d considered the moment of death with rhapsodic delight.” (21)
“Ronan, a sinner himself, wasn’t as struck by the transgression as he was by Gansey’s insistence that they continue to pretend Adam was a saint.” (24)
“Eventually, the Gray Man thought, if he resisted using it for long enough, he himself might forget his own name, and become someone else entirely.” (31)
“Creature was a good word for him, Ronan thought. What the hell am I?” (35)
“Neither could really help the other find sleep. But sometimes it was better just to know you weren’t the only one awake.” (35)
“They never got torn down. They just got forgotten.” (36)
“Back then, it had surprised Ronan; he hadn’t realized yet that Gansey could persuade even the sun to pause and give him the time.” (37)
“His thoughtless expression was one of wonder or of pain; with Gansey, they were so often the same thing.” (37)
“They went and got some orange juice.” (41)
“No, she thought. No, it’s not about that. It’s about what I do, not what I am.” (45)
“It wasn’t what he said but how he looked at no one when he said it that made the moment strange.” (48)
“What do you want, Adam? To feel awake when my eyes are open.” (58)
“This was easier, Adam thought suddenly, when we didn’t know each other.” (59)
“If you never saw the stars, candles were enough.” (60)
“No one could deny that Gansey was a glorious portrait of youth, the well-tended product of a fortunate and moneyed pairing.” (70)
“Sometimes Ronan thought Adam was so used to the right way being painful that he doubted any path that didn’t come with agony.” (71)
“But one of the marvelous things about being Ronan Lynch was that no one ever expected him to do anything nice for anyone.” (72)
“Because they couldn’t talk about that. Just like they couldn’t talk about Adam stealing the Camaro that night. Or about him basically doing everything Gansey had asked him not to.” (74)
“If he were a god, he thought, this would be precisely how he’d create his new world. Unrolling it like a carpet.” (77)
“He wouldn’t forget the sensation of the dream. It hadn’t been joy, but instead, the absence of pain. He couldn’t forget that lightness. The freedom.” (78)
“In the rearview mirror, he allowed himself the slightest of smiles. This was what it felt like to be happy.” (97)
“She’d never been any good at having casual friends.” (98)
“When the boys came to her house, they stopped being everyone else.” (98)
“Without cutting her gaze over to him, she already knew what she would see. She would see a rich boy dressed like a mannequin and coiffed like a newscaster—but his eyes were like the dreaming pool in Cabeswater. He hid the insatiable wanting well, but now that she’d seen it once, she couldn’t stop seeing it.” (101)
“It was powerful thing, that laugh. He only did it once, but his eyes remained shaped like it.” (103)
“And it was this friendship, all wordless glances and wry twists of the mouth, that made Adam think that Gansey must be cruel.” (115)
“Ronan and Gansey were laughing, he thought, at a joke where the rest of the world was the punch line.” (116)
“Gansey had pivoted and in his slow, lovely accent, said, ‘Adam Parrish, right?’” (116)
“They had enough time to lift their heads and look at one another. Then the engine expired.” (120)
“It was becoming a nightmare. Ronan could hear the night horrors coming, in love with his blood and his sadness.” (128)
“Gansey ran over the memory until he no longer felt the thrill of hearing Glendower’s name whispered in his ear, and then instead gave himself over to feeling sorry for himself, that he should have so many friends and yet feel so very alone.” (132)
“He felt it fell to him to comfort them, but never the other way around. As it should be, he thought, abruptly angry with himself. You've had it the easiest. What good is all your privilege, you soft, spoiled thing, if you can’t stand on your own legs?” (132)
“Gansey had a pure logicless moment where his stomach dropped and he thought, I don’t know who any of my friends really are.” (134)
“It was easier for Gansey to wrap his head around a Ronan who made dreams real than a Ronan who wanted to die.” (135)
“‘What is it I’m preparing myself for?’ ‘What’s in my head.’” (136)
“The only reality was this: He was home. How badly he wanted to stay.” (145)
“‘I remember,’ Gansey said thoughtfully to Ronan, ‘when you used to smell like this.’” (154)
“He didn’t say what Ronan was thinking, which was that Gansey was far more of a brother to Ronan than Declan had ever been.” (154)
“That look, Blue thought. Ronan Lynch would do anything for Gansey. I probably would, too, she thought.” (163)
“Blue and Gansey exchanged a look. Blue’s look said, I’m so, so sorry. Gansey’s said, Am I the pretty one?” (165)
“If I was your favorite, he asked his dead father, why did you leave me a home I could never return to?” (172)
“What a hero, the Gray Man thought. Another Arthur.” (179)
“He felt grown old inside his young skin. I tire of wonders, he thought.” (195)
“The unfairness of it, the wanting, kept her up some nights.” (202)
“But this version of Gansey was Gansey the boy. This was the Gansey who bought the Camaro, the Gansey who asked Ronan to teach him to fight, the Gansey who contained every wild spark so that it wouldn’t show up in other versions.” (209)
“The trip of his pulse became a kick drum.” (210)
“This was Gansey with a lofty tilt to his chin, a condescending quirk to his mouth. A Gansey that was aware that no matter what went down here tonight, he would still go back to Monmouth Manufacturing and rule his particular corner of the world. This was a Gansey, Ronan realized, that Adam would hate.” (215)
“‘While I’m gone,’ Gansey said, pausing, ‘dream me the world. Something new for every night.’“ (219)
“And then, in the dark next to the Champagne Travesty, he kissed her. Neither of them had kissed someone else in a while, but it didn’t much matter. Kissing’s a lot like laughing. If the joke’s funny, it doesn't matter how long it’s been since you last heard one.” (224)
“In its place was the ten of swords: the Gray Man slain on the ground and Maura the sword driven through his heart.” (225)
“His head was a tumble of burning cars and ancient Camaro wheels and the destruction of everything Blue had said to him.” (232)
“As they sailed up and over the roof of Monmouth, Gansey caught a last image of Ronan sarcastically blowing him a kiss before turning his head away.” (232)
“Gansey turned his eyes to Adam, who looked more like himself than he had in ages. He silently vowed to do whatever it took to keep him that way.” (237)
“As they baked in the sunlight, she let herself think it: I have a crush on Richard Gansey.” (240)
“Ronan rationed the music from their old life, as if he used up a bit of his memories of his father every time he played it.” (246)
“And just like that, the Gansey who Adam had befriended—the Gansey he would do anything for—vanished, and in his place was the heir born with a silk umbilical cord wrapped round his blue-blooded neck.” (256)
“Adam remembered all at once what it felt like to feel, to be real, to be Adam, instead of my friend, Adam Parrish, give him your card.” (264)
“Ronan rolled his wrist to flip his middle finger at Kavinsky. Muscle memory.” (267)
“Screaming along with the thousands of tiny explosions beneath the hood was a place where Ronan felt nothing but uncomplicated happiness, a dead and empty place in his heart where he needed nothing else.” (270)
“The car was Gansey’s religion, and Ronan found it a worthy god.” (270)
“‘We’re older than we used to be.’ ‘When?’ ‘Just a minute ago. We’re getting older all the time.’” (280)
“He was Adam Parrish, army of one.” (281)
“What he wanted was to be home, and home wasn’t here.” (287)
“Once, he’d been stabbed with a screwdriver—Phillips head, bright blue handle—and falling in love with Maura Sargent was exactly the same.” (289)
“‘He’s having a coming-of-age moment.’” (297)
“He was wasted on dreams.” (321)
“It was nothing, but it was Adam Parrish’s nothing.” (326)
“... he just wanted. Cicadas sang madly from the trees. It was so impossibly summer. He wanted to stay.” (331)
“The old Ronan Lynch’s laugh. No, it was better than that one, because this new one had just a hint of darkness beneath it. This Ronan knew there was crap in the world, but he was laughing anyway.” (337)
“This was her favorite Gansey, the scholar Gansey, not a hint of Aglionby about him.” (360)
“‘I’m just saying it because I’m trying to understand how I could have been so many places and yet this is the only place that feels like home. This is the only place I belong. And because I’m trying to understand how, if I belong here, it...’ ‘—hurts so much,’ Blue finished.” (365)
“He was going to say I missed you. But he had been missing Niall Lynch for as long as he knew him.” (369)
“How terrible it would be, Blue thought, her mind on Adam again, to not have a mother who loved you?” (372)
“(I am a beautiful thing, shaped for fighting)” (373)
“At 300 Fox Way, Adam quietly turned eighteen.” (375)
“Gansey looked like a king, even sitting in the shabby backseat of the shared Fox Way vehicle. Perhaps especially when sitting in the backseat of a shabby vehicle.” (376)
“And here was the pool and the dreaming tree. The first place Cabeswater had changed itself for Gansey, and the first place magic had truly revealed itself to all of them.” (387)
“But at the moment, eighteen and freedom seemed a lot closer than it had before, and it didn’t matter.” (401)
“He held Ronan’s gaze for just a moment longer, until something inside Ronan unwound and he almost said something.” (415)
“She was holding his hand, crouched down next to him. ‘Why do you hate you?’ ... ‘I don’t,’ he said. And he woke up.” (417)
“‘The world’s a nightmare.’” (425)
“For some reason, although he had arrived with them, he felt as if he had been alone for a very long time, and now no longer was.” (426)

Here’s melody
Full name: Melody Jane kratt
Age: Probably around 16
Siblings: Aiden,nolan(twin) kristy(favorite sister)
Cousins: Gavin,Ronan And Raye
Pronouns: they/them(non-binary,YES THEIR PARENTS SUPPORT THEM)
Melody maybe a bit of a nerd with books and all but they are always ready for a creature adventure but they will confront the villains for being mean to the animals and melody has a great relationship with their twin brother Nolan (than raye and Ronan since both of them hate their own guts) and sometimes melody is quite annoying with Aiden but kristy always says that Melody is a great person and sibster to hang out with and melody has ADHD but sometimes helps kristy with her meltdowns and melody would sometimes hang out with Ronan or raye but not with Gavin cause people will think that Gavin and Melody are twins but again they are just cousins and melody has a great relationship with their parents aswell (including michalea) and sometimes joke around with michalea and kristy dating and most importantly Melody is lactose intolerant

Kind of want him to work with a female director so he can have a lady friend who there is no implication of him dating. Z is brave because I can’t trust men who aren’t friends with any other girls lol. Maybe that’s weird of me tho as I know some girls who don’t want their bfs to have female friends 🤷‍♀️
Tom has a big lads group, huh? But he seems like he regards Rachele, his stylist, as a friend, and I’d guess he was friends with Saoirse Ronan, Naomi Watts, and some other former co-stars. I don’t know. I think as Tom and Zendaya grow together, like any committed couple, the need for new intimate relationships of any gender sort of fades away.
Unless/until they become parents because istg the need for mom friends was no joke. It wasn’t quite as intense for my husband/dad friends, but that’s how the world turns I guess.

Not Just a Crush
(This is a part of my Fatherhood series, if you haven’t read that yet, I’d recommend doing so prior to reading this)
A/N: What if Cassandra and Horace had twins instead of just Maddie? This is a fic about the relationship Will’s daughter Alyson would have with their son.
It had started with a comment from Jenny over dinner.
“Ally’s got it bad for Ronan huh?” She teased, bumping Will’s shoulder with her own. All of the former ward mates (the surviving ones Will couldn’t help but think), had traveled to Castle Araluen for a bit of a reunion. Jenny had spent the entire day doting on her nieces and nephew, thrilled to have one on one time with them.
“Got what?” Will tried to pretend he didn’t understand her meaning. She rolled her eyes.
“She likes him Will, as more than a friend.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, they are like sibling.”
“That’s what’s people could have said about you and Alyss. In fact, I’m quite certain some did.”
“That was completely different.”
“It really wasn’t.”
“And anyway, how can you possibly know what she’s feeling, did she tell you?”
“No,” Jenny shrugged, “but an aunt knows. I’m surprised you didn’t realized it Will, your ranger skills of detection are fading. Try paying closer attention.”
So he did.
And it didn’t take long for him to realize that Jenny was right. As usual.
___________________________________________________________________
“I hope you know that this is completely unacceptable.”
Horace looked away from where the kids were practicing their fencing with Gilan and turned to his friend, trying to figure out if he was being genuine or if he was making a bad joke. Will’s blank expression didn’t lend a single clue. “No, I don’t know that.”
Will sighed. “Horace, she’s a child. She can’t- she isn’t- it’s just- no.”
“Will, they are the same age. Actually that’s not true, Alyson is 6 months older than Ronan.”
“That’s not the point. 16 year old boys are the worse. Remember when we were 16?”
Horace cocked an eyebrow, “Yes, and if they come across any bridges I’ll start to worry.”
“You’ve spent too much time with Halt.” Will muttered.
Horace laughed, “It’s a crush Will, let them be. Besides, Alyson could do worse.”
Will didn’t respond. It was true, the only boy Will would even consider worth his daughter’s interest was Ronan. In fact, years ago, when the children were toddlers still stumbling around, Will, Horace and Cassandra would offen joke about arranging Alyson and Ronan’s marriage so that Will and Horace could be officially related. Now he was starting to wonder how he could ever joke about such a matter.
______________________________________________________
Later that evening, once everyone else had gone to bed, Will walked the halls of Castle Araluen. He hadn’t slept through the night since Alyss had died, the feeling of waking up covered in his wife’s blood never leaving his skin, and being in an unfamiliar bed had only made his insomnia worse.
He noticed a flicker of light coming from the crack under Ronan’s door. Pausing, he leaning in and heard muted voices. He was able to make out Ronan’s clearing, but there was another voice. A female one. One that he knew better than his own.
Flinging open the door, Will stormed inside. There on the bed sat his daughter and Ronan, a blanket draped across them both, their lips pressed together.
“What is going on?” He shouted.
“Dad!“ Alyson leapt up from the bed. Seeing that was still wearing her night clothes, Will let a tiny, minuscule part of himself relax.
“Alyson, go to your room.” His voice shook as he tried to reign in his emotions.
“Dad let me explain,” She begged as she tugged her dressing robe tighter around her.
Will’s eyes remind glued to Ronan. “Is he dying? Is he experiencing some kind of psychological torment? Are you the only person in this entire castle who help him?”
Alyson sighed, “No but-“
“I thought not. Save your explanation for the morning. Now, Go. To. Bed.” His voice was deep and solid, and Alyson knew there would be no arguing with her father. Without another word, she left, shooting one last glance over to Ronan, who was too focused on Will to notice.
Once Alyson left the room, Will took a moment to take a deep breath and think. Ronan sat on the bed, nervously fidgeting with his hands. Will was happy to see that he also had his clothes on. So things hadn’t gone that far tonight. But there’s nothing to say they wouldn’t have if Will hadn’t interrupted.
Finally unable to stand the silence for any longer, Ronan said, “Uncle Will please don’t be mad at Alyson.”
Will raised his hand, cutting him off. “You have one chance to tell me the truth. If you lie to me, I’ll know. Now, why was my daughter in your bed in the middle of the night?”
Ronan had heard countless stories of Ranger Will Treaty, the bravest and smartest of them all (or at least that’s what his dad said), but to Ronan, he was always just Uncle Will, quick with a joke and always ready to listen. He had never understood how the loving and kind man he had grown up with could be the same, larger than life hero his father described him as.
Now he saw it.
He saw the steely expression, the dark eyes, the clenched jaw. He saw The Ranger.
“She came in to talk.” Ronan saw the immediate disbelief on Will’s face and continued in a hurry. “No really. We hadn’t had a moment alone since you two arrived. We were always either with Maddie or our parents or someone else. We just, we just wanted some time. To catch up.”
“And how did “catching up” turn into you shoving your tongue down my 16 year old daughter’s throat?”
Ronan blushed so deeply that even in the dim light Will could see it from across the room, “It just sorta happened.” He mumbled.
Will shook his head, “No, it didn’t. You don’t just kiss someone like that for the hell of it. Have you planing this?”
“No! Not really. I mean,” Ronan rubbed the back of his neck, clearly unsure how to explain what he was feeling to the father of the girl he had just been caught kissing in his bed.
Will sighed and said, “Ok, why don’t you try to tell me about it like you would if it was any other girl? Tell me as Uncle Will, not Alyson’s dad.”
Ronan nodded. He used to tell Will everything. Every fight he had with his parents, every crush, every fear. He could do this. “She’s my best friend. There is no one like her. She’s incredible. Brave and smart and strong. I’ve never known life without her. And the older we get, I don’t- it’s like I’m starting realize I don’t even know if I could live without her. I know I wouldn’t want to. It feels like something has changed, a shift in the wind. I told her that tonight, and she said she feels the same way. Then we just… you know, kissed.”
Ronan couldn’t read Will’s face. He didn’t look angry, he looked sort of, sad? “I’m sorry Uncle Will.” He wasn’t quiet sure what he was apologizing for, but he felt like it was the right thing to say.
“I would have thought you’d be old enough to realize this, but apparently not.” Sighing heavily, Will pull a chair over to the bed and seat besides Ronan. “People do not treat men and women the same. They don’t hold them to the same standards. If someone else where to discover Alyson and you… together, she would be ruined. Her reputation, her future, it would all be tarnished. She would be shunned by society. Whereas you, would be fine. Frankly, your reputation would benefit. You’d be admired by your peers. And anyone who disapproved of your actions would be told “He’s a teenage boy, what do you expect?” Do you understand?”
Ronan swallowed, “I’m not sure. Why is it so different?”
“I don’t know. I wish I could change it. I hate that I need to raise my daughter in a world that will never respect her as much as it will me, but that is the way of the world. For now. So if you truly care about Alyson-“
“I do!”
“-Then you need to respect her, and understand that the choices you make will have greater consequences for her than for you.”
Ronan looked down in deep thought. “I didn’t think about it like that.”
“I know you didn’t Ro. I know you wouldn’t hurt Alyson. I probably shouldn’t have come charging in here like a hellhound. But she’s my little girl. Someday you’ll understand what that means. How it clouds your judgement and causes you to act irrational.” Will stood up and squeezed Ronan’s shoulder. “In the morning, we are all going to sit down and have a chat. If you and Alyson genuinely want to peruse a relationship with one another, then there need to be ground rules. Starting with no more midnight rendezvous.” Ronan nodded.
“Alright then, get some rest kiddo.” Will started to leave the room when Ronan called out after him.
“I love you Uncle Will.”
Will smiled, “Love you too Ro.” He shut the door softly as he stepped into the hall.
“Looks like we’re going to be brothers after all.”
Will startled at the sound of Horace’s voice. He turned to his friend, “How long have you been standing out here?”
“Long enough to figure out what was happening. I’m pretty sure you just gave Ronan the fright of his life.”
“I’m not going to apologize for it.”
“And I’m not expecting you too. In fact, I have half the mind to go in there and scold him myself. He should know better. Cassie will have a fit.”
Will laughed, “She shouldn’t go too hard on him, I don’t think he meant harm.”
“No, but like you said, this isn’t just about him. Had anyone else found them, we’d be planing a wedding for the spring.”
Will shuttered at the thought. “Believe me, I know. And we are definitely bring that up when we talk with them.”
“I can’t say I’m looking forward to that conversation.”
“Neither am I. I’m not ready for this Horace. I knew parenting would be hard. That there would be sleepless nights and fights and fear. I knew there would be nappies to clean and busies to kiss and sacrifices to make. But this, this never even crossed my mind.”
“Tell me about it. If I’m not up worrying about one kid, I’m worrying about the other. I assumed things would get easier as they got older, but I’m realizing that was ignorant thinking. It seems to get harder every day.”
“But it’s worth it, isn’t it?” Will grinned.
Slinging his arm over Will’s shoulders, Horace says, “Yeah brother, it is so worth it.”

I don’t even read the raven cycle series but I’ve somehow done it vicariously through multiple tumblr posts 😂
So there’s this friendship competition between Ronan and Adam for Gansey? Sorry I just saw your recent post and went *gasp*
nah, i wouldn't say that ronan and adam are competing for gansey's friendship. it's more like they have both major daddy issues and they project some of that on gansey, but in different ways. they both have their own insecurities and fears that sometimes clash when they happen to lose their shit at the same time. like ronan states: "this isn't about [adam]." and for adam it's not about ronan. not really. they both very much have their own stuff to work through—stuff that reflects in their respective relationships with gansey. all that being said, they're as obsessed with each other as they are with gansey, though their relationship is different in quality. ronan and adam are very close friends, too, so they know exactly which wounds to pick at to draw blood and what to say to stir a reaction. i'd argue there are times when they are each others best friends, and gansey is kind of at the periphery of their trio dynamic. ((but then again, they're all each others best friends, really.)) and yeah, occasionally there is some underlying jealousy welling up in all three of them, but it's always so much more about themselves and what they're lacking (emotionally) than the others. it's quite hard to do all their dynamics justice in just a few words; it's all rather complex (and that's without bringing blue into the mix as well) 😅 i'm gonna leave you with this quote from the series just because:
“You can be just friends with people, you know," Orla said. "I think it's crazy how you're in love with all those raven boys." Orla wasn't wrong, of course. But what she didn't realize about Blue and her boys was that they were all in love with one another. She was no less obsessed with them than they were with her, or one another, analyzing every conversation and gesture, drawing out every joke into a longer and longer running gag, spending each moment either with one another or thinking about when next they would be with one another. Blue was perfectly aware that it was possible to have a friendship that wasn't all-encompassing, that wasn't blinding, deafening, maddening, quickening. It was just that now that she'd had this kind, she didn't want the other.”

How about a sorry kiss for chargestep?
Sweet Affectionate Moments AO3
This was becoming dangerously close to a habit. Marshal Charge and Sidestep on whatever rooftop was nearest to their latest escapade but not so close that they would be spotted. There might be a check in, there might be a quip, there might be both and either Sidestep would roll up their mask or Marshal Charge would gently roll it up for them and either Sidestep was the one to lean in or Marshal Charge would lean in but either way it would result in a kiss.
A kiss with the edge that comes when there’s still some adrenaline that needs be worked out and maybe maybe just maybe one kiss isn’t quite enough and what if… What if we held each other a little closer? And I remember last time you really liked it when I got my hands in your hair and pulled a little.
And this time Ronan catches his bottom lip and Ricardo swears a jolt runs down his spine as he mumbles something against their mouth and Ronan feels their body mould to his as he backs them against something and Ricardo has a hazy idea of running his lips against their neck which he’s sure will be amazing from the way Ronan shivers against him as the pad of his gloved thumb trails down their neck and then…
Humming, Buzzing it’s always there cradled at the back of their skull, ebbs and flows, like a tide, like lungs, like a heartbeat,
Ronan tenses
“What?”
Ronan sighs
Cracks and pops, background radiation, Geiger counter brain
“There’s” Ronan pauses
Cracks and pops, more intense, Gieger counter brain, doesn't actually hurt but it irritates pins and needles over and over again
“Shit… there’speople,”
Ricardo bites down on his lip, part of him wants to crack a joke about ‘Of course there’s people we’re in Los Diablos’ and comparing it to something like… Being surprised there’s… Leaves on a Tree? Fish in the Sea? Tomato Juice in a Bloody Mary? Cheese in a Quesadilla? But he manages to tamp down on the urge.
“Press?”
Can’t make out individuals, they’re just too far from that, it’s too hard. But there’s an overarching thread of all too familiar prying almost voyeuristic morbid curiosity
“Yeah,” Ronan sighs, Sharp edge almost sharp enough to hurt and if Ronan follows it for too long it leaves a weird bitter taste in their mouth “LDPD too-”
Ricardo groans, “They want to see me…” Then smirks, “Don’t need telepathy to tell me that right?”
There’s a pause that he knows under the mask Ronan is rolling their eyes or raising an eyebrow or maybe both.
And then there’s one more kiss, both too brief and longer than it should be a pre-emptive apology and also a promise before he heads into the fray.

I'm giving options ✌
❛ i’m not wearing any underwear. thought you’d like to know. ❜
Or
❛ if you called just to get off on my voice, i’m hanging up. ❜
There are rules.
The only way they can survive this intact, is if there are rules. So Ronan calls. He has Adam's class schedule more than memorized, he knows it as intimately as he knows Adam himself, and he calls. When Ronan calls, Adam answers. Simple as that.
So when Ronan's ring tone desecrates the rare morning Adam has to himself, sleep warm and throbbing in his underwear, Adam doesn't curse, he doesn't take his hand off himself, he just answers.
"Why are cocoa pebbles almost two whole dollars more than fruity pebbles?"
Adam turns his head, hiding his smile in his pillow and hums instead of answering properly. The affront in Ronan's voice would be exactly the same talking about cereal as it would be to know that Adam was getting himself off.
The next three aisles are more of the same, Ronan's acerbic commentary fueling Adam's fantasies as he teases himself to sweating beneath his sheets. He's not paying attention to what Ronan is saying, so much as how he's saying it. Would it be better if Ronan were also in bed, whispering filth into Adam's good ear and urging him on? Of course. But for once, Adam has his room to himself and not even the minutes long rant about the sushi counter which include several terrible jokes about raw fish, could stop him from enjoying the growl of that much loved, familiar, missed voice.
"Adam."
The reproach in Ronan's voice shocks him out of his trance of mindless affirmations, 'active listening' noises that were neither active, nor listening.
He huffs. "If you called just to get off on my voice, I'm hanging up."
"You called me," Adam says, fully aware that his voice sounds breathy and wrecked. Not quite awake and too close to coming to be steady. He doesn't know what it was that gave him away and doesn't care.
Ronan makes a rude noise in his ear, as though he can't be bothered with paltry details such as who called whom. God, Adam loves him so much. Adam misses him so much. Adam wants him here, to settle between his legs and suck him down. Biting his lip against a moan, he almost misses what Ronan says next.
"It's like you fucking planned this, I swear."
"Right, I planned you calling me at," he squints at his alarm clock for the first time this morning and groans, a sound of annoyance and not pleasure. "eight forty am? Ronan what the fuck."
"Couldn't sleep."
He can hear Ronan shrugging. Which shouldn't be as hot as it is, but all Adam can think of is the breadth of his shoulders, the way his muscles flexed, red in the sun as he ran shirtless around the Barns that summer.
A rough noise of complaint has Adam fucking into the tight ring of his fingers. "Were you even gonna call me?"
"That's not the deal," Adam returns, ruthless in his pursuit.
"Yeah, well, you wanna know a secret?"
Always. Adam wants to know all of Ronan's secrets. There are moments when even living together isn't enough, when fucking doesn't feel close enough. Adam just wants, so much. And he's so close.
"I wish you'd have waited, 'cause I'm not wearing any underwear. Thought you might wanna know."
Sinking his teeth into the heel of his hand, Adam loses it, strips his cock rough and bucks his hips as he comes, thinking of the line of Ronan's cock, stuck in a thick line against his left leg, or pressed up against his belly, the button of his jeans digging in under the head.
"Fuck," Adam pants.
"Give me eight hours," Ronan says.
It's not a joke. Adam doesn't laugh.
Instead, still hard and not yet oversensitive, he twitches against the mess in his pajama pants. It's going to be one of those days, he can already tell. Those hair trigger days where everything reminds him of Ronan a strong wind gets him hard and he can come like, five times without any real relief.
He says, "Promise?"

The idea of prompt 13 is making me laugh a lot, but I can also really picture prompt 21, i have no idea who out of Ronan, Adam and K though, too hard a choice
21. I have headphones in and I’m on the phone with my friend, insulting them in a joking manner, but you think I’m talking to you and start to give me a piece of your mind
Someone else requested 13 so I'll probably do that one at some point too, but this one was so much fun 💕
Ronan hated the subway. He hated the city and he hated the crowds within it and he hated rats and he hated public transportation. Right now, the thing he hated most was his car’s broken transmission, the catlyst which forced him to ride on the fucking crowded subway where he had to deal with both people and rats.
New York was Declan’s city, not his. Just a few more days and then his car would be out of the shop; he could bid his brother and his shitty crowded city farewell and go back to the Barns until the next holiday inevitably brought him back.
Declan said the Barns were reclusive. He said they were turning Ronan into a hermit.
Ronan thought it was better described as secluded and Ronan was not a hermit, he was anti-social. There was a difference. People generally didn’t like him any more than he liked them.
He checked the map above his head again, then sat back, long legs stretched out in front of him. New York City’s layout was basic, Declan said. Streets were all numbered and Ronan may have been a high school dropout, but he knew how to count. In theory, it was easy. In practice… not so much. The railways on the map stretched out like varicose veins. If he got on the wrong one, he could end up in the Bronx instead of Lower Manhattan. It was an artform Ronan had yet to perfect and, quite frankly, he didn’t want to. He didn’t want to get used to the city and its noisy subway cars full of unpleasant patrons.
“You have the biggest forehead I have ever seen.”
Ronan blinked, surprised by the voice. It stood out amongst the buzzing background conversations all around; a deep, drawling voice from the man across from him. A brown leather jacket hung off his wiry frame, faded jeans over long legs. He looked like every other New Yorker Ronan has the displeasure of meeting, but he was cute at the very least. Gaunt cheeks, a strong jaw, a frown that rivaled Ronan’s typical antipathy.
What startled Ronan the most wasn’t the soft Southern accent, but the fact that it didn’t seem directed at anyone in particular.
Actually, if Ronan didn’t know any better, he would say the man was looking at him.
“Um,” Ronan said, glancing to his side. Nobody around him seemed perturbed by the statement. He had to have heard wrong. He was certain. People in New York were brash, but… there was just no way that some stranger on the subway had randomly commented on the size of Ronan’s forehead. It was too bizarre, even for New York. “Excuse me?”

please please please give me your thoughts and opinions on trc I need to know every thought you have had about the series ever
I would love to share! Have not read the dreamer trilogy yet, hence the reread because I'm finally getting around to it. I got to Ronan crying after trashing Adam's dorm and being banned, then for some reason got distracted from it.
But! There are a few things that first come to mind: ronan is so so precious to me. I have a type of favorite character and he is it. I would hold him in my hands but he'd never in a million years let me. He is raw and unbridled and fascinating. I don't think we'd get along great, but he's such a good character.
Second, I'm like 97% sure Blue and I have the same haircut. Not pictured: me five minutes ago tying my hair into the spikiest ponytail and trying desperately to find more clips because it's just not quite long enough to work, but I like it. Need more clips tho. Enamored with her eccentricity and commitment to it. When I first read her descriptions however many years ago, I didn't quite get it, but I do now and I aspire to be as unconventional and intentional as she is.
Another thing I can't stop thinking about: Noah. No other loss has hit me and stuck like him. It's wrenching, just how poignant his "death" is. I say death because I know he's dead, but I'm referring to how he quietly faded from time. It guts me every time I think about it because it's so unlike what you find in any other writing. As painful and raw as death can be, in other books, they aren't gone. Not fully. There are memories and memorabilia and fond thoughts and moments. There is a space where they were, and it may be empty but the space is there. Not for Noah. He isn't dead, he doesn't exist anymore. There are no thoughts, no space where he used to be. He's gone from the story in a way no other character death provides--and it hurts. Especially reading that scene where Ronan wrote remembered in the car window. Because I know he isn't. I know that the only place Noah exists is in our, the readers, minds. That he's only truly there in your first read through and you don't even know to treasure it. Because rereading it, you see him on the page and know he's not there. Not in the same way. At least to me. It is devastating and I don't think any death will ever compare to it for me.
This series was designed to be reread and even though it's been long enough I don't remember everything, it still hits. And I am immediately reminded why I adored the series so and why I read through it so fast, even though it hadn't been anything like what I thought it was about. I cannot believe I've let cdth and mister impossible sit on my shelf for so long--i've had cdth since like 2019, 2020 or something. really soon after it was released
i know the series just ended or something like that, and I'd been joking like "haha everyone else has reached the end of the story but since I haven't read it I get to live in a world where it isn't over <3" but now I am oh so aware that's it's over and that time it limited. i am going to reach the end and that will be it but I won't be the same. you know how that is, when a story ends and there's nothing new, and you can reread and talk about it and enjoy it but something has changed?
anyway, my point is wow I missed this series and I'm so glad I picked it up again on a whim
