And Your Name Is? (Sebek, Silver, Idia)
Tumblr media
Synopsis- After successfully resolving whatever was causing NRC to be trapped in an endless time loop of overblotting and disaster, one last reset should give him a chance to experience a normal school year with you. But instead you find yourself trapped in the here and there, appearing as a vague shadow around the school that vanishes as soon as he catches up to you. The kind thing to do would be to allow you to be forgotten in the chance it lets you return to your world.
But this is Twisted Wonderland where the kind thing is seldom done, and he wants you back as much as you want to find him again.
notes: they/them pronouns used for Yuu, thanks to the lovely annon who requested this, they suggested Silver and Sebek in celebration of Book 7 Chapter 5 and I decided to add Idia because I expect he'll be doing something soon-ish. Please look to my masterlist for the other parts if you liked this.

Sebek
This is madness, it has to be. What other explanation could he have for these memories torturing him every time he finds himself alone. Lilia had reassured them they were real, even if Lord Malleus's memory was fuzzy and Silver's as unreliable as ever what he saw, what he felt, were all painfully real. There was a missing student from his first year class, an incompetent irrevocably out of place, magicless human who seemed determined to get into the worst situations possible. He can't decide who he is angrier at, the other students for forgetting you, you for once again getting yourself into a situation someone would need to rescue you from, or himself for... for... for...
He'd asked his mother once, angrily and painfully disrespectfully, why she would marry someone so weak. The perspective of time, looped or otherwise, made him realize he was really blaming her for the way his grandfather saw him. As if he could have somehow earned his total respect and love if he erased everything about his father from his being, as if the answer his mother ultimately gave him was a sin somehow.
"Because my love is not weak, true love never is. You can let it change you for the better, or you can let it make you worse. When you see the person you love you will know what they'll do, your soul becomes theirs in a way. Your strengths and weaknesses become shared."
Sebek thinks he must be letting love make him worse. He isn't loud when he approaches your silhouette, he makes no announcement, no demand you be grateful he is paying you attention despite your humanity. He just sits under the apple tree, and quietly into the the empty night air reads a novel. There's a vague memory he has of a much louder conversation you had here about the exact same book. The knight saves his love at the cost of his own life, and he had gone on at much louder length about how noble that was.
You though, you had hated it. "What's the point of living if the person you want to share your life with had to die for it?"
"Do you remember?" His voice is still woefully in line with a normal volume, and you are still just out of reach. "That is what you said, and I am sure I said something very stupid about knightly honor. I probably told you that a mere human would never understand, but whatever I might have meant you were right in the end. It's an empty world when your life is paid for with the life of someone you love." You flicker as if to disappear, but Sebek is faster, snapping up from his seat to grasp you in a death roll and tumbling down to the grass. Yes, love is absolutely making him worse, how else is he supposed to explain to anyone the sheer joy he feels to find you, heavy and warm in the flesh successfully pinned under him and trembling. He can atone for his improprieties later, the sheer worry you inflicted demands immediate penance. There is no running from your fate, not that the arms that encircle his shoulders and pull him further down seem at risk of fleeing anywhere. Sebek's eyes close in relief, allowing himself finally to release his weakness into the strength of your embrace.
Silver
He used to dream what it would be like to live without his curse. Granted Silver didn't have much of an imagination, most of those thoughts consisted of him doing simple things like training with his father or cooking without fear of hurting himself, not that those were bad things to want. Now though, he almost missed his lapses into sleep. He was certain, based off of what little Malleus and Lilia had been able to tell him about the here and there, that he could find you in his dreams. When he went to bed at night he knew he slept, knew he dreamed, but for some reason he just couldn't find you. There were traces, locations he remembers from past timelines, places he's sure must be a twisted echo from your world, all showing traces he could follow but never once showing him you.
It was enough to make him cry, he swears he's cried more in the past month than he has in how ever many years he's been alive. He knows it's scaring his father, he thinks it's scaring Sebek. Malleus is still under the impression there is a way to save you so he has yet to give into fear, but if the way he dismisses Silver, teasingly telling him to get some rest, is any reassurance he's worried about him too.
"I really hope you aren't missing because you think we don't care." He seldom speaks aloud to you outside of dreams, Silver isn't sure if you can hear him when he does. But there's a painful strength to his desire tonight, maybe fueled by the silhouette he saw flickering just beyond the Ramshackle Gate earlier in the evening. He knows Malleus told him to rest, but he finds himself walking back there "just in case" before he returns to his dorm. It's quiet here, inviting himself to close his eyes and begin tracing the steps he saw earlier. You were dancing, he tried to reach for your hand to give you the partner the waltz so clearly demanded but only found air. They're still only holding air when when he pauses, eyes blurring as he tries to examine a still tingling palm, confused to find tears pooling in its center as words continue to flow. "That's not to say if you do I don't understand. If I was in your place, I would feel lonely too. It has to be painful, feeling so alone when you are surrounded by so many people..." His eyes close. A gentle breeze picks up the autumn leaves and tickle his nose with a familiar scent as he chokes out an earnest plea: "Is it too much to ask for you to be lonely in my hands? I promise I'll hold on so tight you never float away again." A comforting weight settles itself onto his hand, his fingers thread through theirs and his other arm pulls them into his embrace through sheer muscle memory before his eyes even open.
"Why are you crying?" A voice he's been chasing after for hundreds of years now, cracked from a months worth of silence asks him so earnestly and sweetly the only response he can find is laughter.
"It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter!" His arm finds it's way under your legs to sweep you up into a protective cradle as he spins you around and around to reassure himself that this is not a dream, no matter the familiar gleam shining up at him from your eyes.
Idia
This is so not worth it. Idia is not built for this, this, this cliche bullshit plot line. He will not own up to his past self's decisions, he will stay resolute in nihilistic pride and continue to refer to himself as a looser NEET who has never gotten any in his entire life. And technically, as he has argued to Ortho for the past five hours now, that is still true.
"New timeline new me, I am not in love with a student who doesn't technically exist that was my much cooler alter ego." He says that, but Ortho knows that's not a video game's code he has pulled up on his monitor. And despite checking the school's security cams being his thing, his older brother has several open on his other monitor. They've been changing through this entire argument, clearly monitoring wherever you appear and logging it as data in a massive spreadsheet Ortho has maybe taken one or two looks at when he managed to convince Idia to take a nap.
"Um big brother, not to be rude-" Ortho really wants to be. Idia isn't the only one who loves you, just the only one insistent on denying his feelings. "but isn't it sort of... childish to deny yourself at this point? The prefect-"
"They can't be a prefect if they aren't in school." Idia snaps.
"Just Yuu then." Ortho chooses to take the weird cackle Idia lets out as a sign he is making progress with his code and not a sign of a mental break. Yet. "They never showed interest in anyone else, they always picked you. That's got to be enough data to prove that when you save them," because there really is no point in pretending Idia is trying to do anything else at this point, even he gave up denying that just fifteen minutes into this conversation "they won't abandon you for anyone else."
"That's what I'm afraid of." Idia doesn't think he meant to say that, the words sort of just fall out of his mind onto his lap. He risks a look at the security footage, your ghost seldom comes into Ignihyde. That had bothered him at first, angered him even. What, you'll tell him you love him, steal his first kiss every time you can, and watch all his favorite shows just to get him to talk to you more but then when you're trapped in a liminal space you won't bother knocking on his door? Did all those things you said you would do only apply to the good times?
Not that it changed what he was going to do, part of him saw saving you as a challenge but mostly it was just out of gratitude for saving Ortho. That would have earned you his help even without the whole "lovers doomed by the narrative" thing you had going on. But recently, the more he worked on saving you really, he had started to wonder if his self doubt was what was pushing you away. Idia hated how much magic could rely on something as unpredictable and unreliable as human emotion, but it did. And whatever was happening to you was absolutely magical, he had the data to prove it. Reluctantly, ignoring Ortho's protests despite the guilt that gnaws at him he leaves his room. The harsh nighttime light of Ignihyde's LED displays bounce off his skin as he shuffles himself through the empty dormitory, no real destination in mind. He couldn't bring himself to say it out loud in front of Ortho, he couldn't bring himself to say it in front of you either, if his spotty memory is serving him correctly. He finds himself stood in front of a vending machine in one of the school's hallways, two distorted shadows flickering with equal uncertainty in the glass.
"Hungry?" Idia doesn't know why he asks, but he knows why he puts enough money into the machine for two bags of chips. "I keep forgetting I'm just getting shit for myself now." You don't respond, but Idia isn't too surprised or upset. It has to be weird hearing him address you directly after he's spent so much time ignoring you. "Just because Ignihyde's meant to respect the King of the Underworld doesn't mean you'll get snatched away if you pay me a visit. You shouldn't be afraid of him, he isn't dangerous to you." But I am. He doesn't say that, but the words hang heavy in the air anyway. Your shadow tries to reach for the vending machine, but pause almost confused when Idia beats you to punch in the familiar number of your favorite drink.
I love you. He doesn't say it out loud, but the thunk of the can makes the point just the same Idia realizes when he brings the can up to a very confused, very familiar looking face. You are confused, and a bit scared when he drops the drink to tackle you but you hold onto him anyway.
I love you too. You don't say it either but the steady, comforting beat of your heart screams it just the same. I will find you in ever lifetime.

Opinions on Leopardstar? I haven't read leopardstar's Honor yet, not sure what happens there, but I've heard it's somewhat disappointing.
I was always somewhat angry that she never really mentioned Tigerstar after the whole Tigerclan thing, and we never really got to see how she felt about the whole thing, just that the people she sent to die really didn't like her.
A Shadow in Riverclan also kinda did the same thing where she gave a little pep talk and suddenly everything was ok for Feathertail, after she had horrible ptsd from Leopardstar
I want to like her but she's such a nothing character imo to actually have an opinion on because I think she was done pretty dirty, as Riverclan and her weren't really the focus of the series for so long
I consider myself a Leopardstar fan. I’ve been wanting to talking about my feelings/view on her for a while so i’ll put all my thoughts here!
The direction they took with her in canon is dissatisfying but she has alot of groundwork that gives her interesting potential. Her father is a medic- formerly warrior- who changed his position because he is against violence. She turns into everything Mudfur wanted to escape from. Too proud, itching for a battle, apathetic to the suffering of the other clans. And even if it was a let down, I can appreciate the authors at least tried to do more with her character than let her off the hook as easily as Blackfoot.
I like her mostly in comparison to my dislike for Blackstar's character. He teamed with Brokenstar and Tigerstar, committed murders and didn’t protest to the abuse of his own clan. He does nothing to atone and doesn't even seem particularly remorseful but he's still rewarded by being made leader. Leopardstar was already in power when she made the decisions that cost cats their lives. Cats trusted her to protect them and her neglect threw them into savagery and death. Standing by to allow kits and her own deputy be slaughtered is GRUESOME. I read her as someone blinded by ambition, just another product of the code. She misjudged then got in over her head with Tigerclan and was willing to toss others aside to save her own tail. Maybe she truly is remorseful, but it doesn't change what she did. Nothing can.
Crookedstar's leadership was very relaxed and she considered him weak. He gave up land to Shadowclan, he could never keep Sunningrocks, he allowed Thunderclan to take refugee on multiple occasions, and all of the half clan cats he accepts are seemingly only because they're his kin. She had thoughts of making Riverclan powerful and feared once he was out of the picture, it's why she completely disregarded his dying wishes- She couldn't bring herself to respect him.
The politics of Riverclan change drastically with her nine lives. Closed borders and no tolerance for Thunderclan, not even Graystripe, who only wanted to be with his kits. Riverclan is strong. But it could be stronger, couldn't it? She and Tigerclaw served as deputies together, even if he was the enemy, she thought well of him. He is a fierce and respected Thunderclan warrior. Or so he was. While she initially thought it a red flag he was now serving Shadowclan, she couldn't disagree with him for leaving Thunderclan when she already had so much resentment for them and ruling Shadowclan, it was true. They had been weaken for many moons, it was Tigerstar who reunited them and made them powerful. So when he promises to make her clan just as powerful, together, she doesnt refuse.
She very consistently and vocally had a dislike for half-clan cats. She exiled Graystripe. She calls Featherpaw and Stormpaw liabilities. She banishes Stormfur and Brook. I think she has very genuine hateful beliefs but at the same time she’s horrified at what happened to Stonefur. That was a cat she was trusting to become the next leader of Riverclan. And he was killed for defending innocent lives. She knows she was wrong, she regrets it, she has nightmares about the bonehill. (<- This was confirmed by an author apparently!) but her attempts to “atone” are surface level and shallow at best. She wants to be forgiven without changing. She makes Mistyfoot deputy to show she’s better now, but what meaning does that position have after Stonefur was slaughtered? She apologizes to Feathertail and Stormfur, but they still feel like complete outcasts. They’re more friendly with their former clanmates in Thunderclan and Leopardstar later exiles Stormfur over a faked sign. I think her attempts were never to better herself or right her victims, but to relieve her own guilt. She’s always prioritized herself above others.

what character is the character you think the fandom always gets really almost insultingly wrong? for me its mapleshade
I’ve got a few, but I also made posts for some of those already, namely that Leopardstar is not a fascist apologist and has spent all her life guilt-ridden and trying to atone for Tigerclan and Stonefur’s death. There’s also the fact Tigerstar Sr is not racist (although he sure pretends to be), but I made a post about that too.
I’m starting to think that Brackenfur is done dirty too but I’m going to wait until I finish re-reading the prophecy begins.
Mothwing might be a good beginning, not because I think there’s much more than the text says, but because the fandom doesn’t even seem to have read the text.
Mothwing according to the fandom: Lesbian medicine cat who should have eloped with Leafpool instead of Crowfeather. The erins don’t kill her off because they would have to answer the question of where she would go since she’s atheist.
Mothwing according to the text: A medicine cat (so basically a doctor and priest) who saw her brother drown in front of her, saw her mother abandon her other brother and her in a clan whose entire culture circles around water, who learned a new faith, sacrificed her whole future life (couldn’t have a mate nor kits now) for the good of the clan when Star Clan designated her to become a medicine cat (yes she wanted to but still), then discovered her brother, the only family she had left, had betrayed her trust, and made up a sign, which in turn broke her faith in Star Clan.
She’s also, but tries to move from it, the daughter of (one of) the greatest criminals who ever walked the forest. She was thrown as the only medicine cat in the clan rather young, when Mudfur decided to stay behind in the forest (also he didn’t decide because he was actively dying but that’s not my point). She has had her share of traumatic events, including discovering her brother (again, her only family left) was an awful guy, almost failing to save a drowning apprentice, being abused by her brother, having to hide her lack of faith, etc.
The only friend we know to her that is her equal (and not like, her apprentice or a much younger or older cat) is Leafpool, and they care deeply for each other, but would both still put their clan first.
So why I think everyone got her wrong:
Her core, the center of her whole being and personnality, rests on the fact she is, somehow, broken, but in a Kintsugi way (kintsugi is a japanese word which basically means mending something with gold to make it even more beautiful and unique than before).
She’s such an interesting medicine cat because she doesn’t have faith in Star Clan. If, after The Last Hope, she believes there’s a life after death (which I’m not sure she does) she still believes they are flawed, and dying doesn’t make you smarter. We know Jayfeather had kinda the same reaction but in his case it was more like rebelling because people told him to do something he didn’t want to. In Mothwing’s case, it’s all about knowing that there are bad people who died, too, and flawed people. She’s seen many people from Riverclan die, and we can imagine she has seen some when she still was having visions, before she learned about the moth wing Hawkfrost put up. So she knows Star Clan cats are not inherently wise.
And that’s a very rare thing, to see a cat who does believe Star Clan exists in some extent, but questions their judgement. We see Nightpelt/star doing that, too, but Mothwing’s a medicine cat, aka the only place in the clan in which it is necessary to believe in Star Clan, to have faith in it.
She’s also a descendant of Tigerstar, but she’s not like her siblings. Hawkfrost tried to take over the lake, Bramblestar became leader the legal way, Tawnypelt had kits... whether politically or genetically, they’re all carrying a bit of Tigerstar in them and propagating them. Mothwing doesn’t fight, and Mothwing can’t have kits. Plus she doesn’t believe in life after death enough to receive visions or dreams, so she can’t even see Tigerstar in her dreams. She’s the only one who severes the ties of Past and Future. She’s a Present embodiement.
She also shares the name of the first medicine cat ever. She has friends in all four clans. She was a warrior before becoming a medicine cat.
She is so much more than a baseless ship the fandom is parading around the streets...
Yeah anyway she’s one of my “Only-I-Have-The-Right-Opinion-About-Them” characters.

Okayyy… So I’ve recently become ultra obsessed with Naoki Urasawa's Monster (it’s sooo good). The trope pages for it however are really giving me a migraine🤦🏼‍♀️ simply because they labelled Johan Liebert as a Complete Monster!! If you look on the wiki list for CM in Anime/Manga - HE'S THE PAGE IMAGE🤯 Ahem, he’s a monster for sure but most certainly a Tragic Monster or what is called a Woobie Destroyer of Worlds - there’s a difference! A Woobie Destroyer of Worlds has a reason for why they are what they are, oftentimes something traumatic in their childhood - Johan had several severely messed up things happen to him from the time he was born‼️ Also a CM is incapable of loving another human being: JOHAN WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR ANNA!! Listen, I’m not trying to justify his actions but I don’t think it’s accurate to describe the character as being born pure evil when there’s plenty of textual information that refute that claim! Plus how can they call Johan a Complete Monster but not these characters:
Tumblr media
Petr Čapek
He is complicit in Franz Bonaparta's atrocities, likely taking part in the experiments at the Red Rose Mansion. He also helped Bonaparta kidnap Anna from her home and threatened her.
He killed a family, including two children, on Bonaparta's orders.
After re-establishing himself in Germany, he psychologically tortured a new group of innocent children, driving them to violence and suicide, causing the suicide of Milan's son, and showed no remorse for it even though they were childhood friends.
He had contempt for Turkish people, trying to expel them from their homes.
He murdered the five leaders of the resistance against him.
He masterminded a plan to burn down the Turkish quarter, which could have caused massive loss of life.
He attempts to convince Johan to be the Neo-Nazis' leader in a grand plot to begin World War 3 and wipe out all non-Aryan races in the world.
He repeatedly tried to have Johan's sister kidnapped so he could use her as a hostage.
He showed no apparent remorse when his childhood friend Milan was gunned down in an attempt to assassinate him.
He ordered Eva Heinemann killed when she had served her purpose, and then had Martin killed for failing to do this.
He showed no concern for the murders committed by Johan, claiming that they were his will.
He murdered his driver in a fit of paranoia.
He gave up Bonaparta's whereabouts in order to save his own life.
Compared to Franz Bonaparta, who made a serious attempt to atone for his own crimes, Capek shows very little remorse.
Tumblr media
The Baby
He is established to be a Neo-Nazi and a racist politician, even owning a neighborhood filled with people like him.
The Baby plans to use Nina in order to get her brother's attention.
Despite appearing affable towards Nina, it is nothing but a facade in his manipulation towards her.
He arrogantly believes that Johan supports and agrees with his racist views without understanding that he is a nihilist who doesn't care about those beliefs as he looks down on all humans equally.
He runs over Tenma with his car and is disappointed that he did not die from the impact and then later kidnaps him.
Like the organization, he wants to convert Johan to his racist ideology and make him the new leader of Germany under the organization's control.
He tries to purge the Turkish community by burning down a neighborhood filled with them. This is really bad as this would qualify as an attempted genocide since he strongly hates the Turks.
While at that, he enjoys the destruction of other minorities that he causes.
The Baby tortures Tenma just because he's Asian.
Even when Tenma told him that Johan hates all humans equally, he continued to beat him anyway.
He attempts to kill Dieter, who is a kid that Tenma saved from Hartman and expresses gleefulness during the action.
He threatened to kill Martin if he failed his job.
Throughout the story, he shows no remorse for his actions.
UPDATE: Johan was recently removed from the Pure Evil wiki 😃

To celebrate trickster Tuesday! I am going to ramble about Mystery Spot, the episode ever. Don't take any of this super seriously I am by no means a "meta analysis" this is just me foaming at the mouth. + the spiral of thoughts it sent me on.
Anyways. If you wanna read it! It's below the cut! Because it got (long).
First off, Mystery Spot represents the literal cycle Sam (and also the entire Winchester family) find themselves caught in, over and over and over again: due to their inherent savior & martyr complexes. Which are not a great blend. Imagine having to save everyone you care about, but, always being willing to simply - die for them. More than willing. Happy to. Feel like you have to, in order to be worth anything to anyone or them. In order to atone.
Now, we saw in S1-S2 how much Dean is willing to give up for family, for Sam. It's the entire reason S3 is happening - he sold his own soul to a demon, something he hated John for, to save Sam. To bring him back to life. Something we learn that his own mother did all those years ago: just not at the price of her soul, but, essentially - her first born child (so Rumplstilskin of Azazel for real). The Winchester need to save each other, that toxic codependency on family, that "family is all you got at the end of the day" mentality is what started it all.
We have only seen in S1-S2 breif glimpses that Sam also shows these signs. The same codependency as Dean, and that savior complex. However - it never becomes truly and completely apparent until S3. Where he is willing to steal human livers, find anyway - anything to save Dean from his deal. It isn't until Jessica, John and everyone else he has known is gone, that Sam begins to fall completely into the codependency that Dean unfortunately, feeds into. (With all of his "You ran away from the family" talk and such)
In Mystery Spot: we see the first true depths of how far Sam is willing to go to keep Dean alive. How far he has fallen from that rebelliousness he had before John died. Starting to agree with Dean that he "tried his best". And things like that. In Mystery Spot we see that Sam rather relive the same day over and over and over again, than let Dean die. We never see him accept it. Not once. Sure, it's a time-loop, but we know Gabriel was trying to teach Sam to let go.
Teach him to break the fucking cycle. But he doesn't. He contuines to give into it, over and over. Until Gabriel reveals himself, thinking maybe he can still change it. Change Sam. Get through to him. That'd when we get those 6 months of pure obessesion.
And at the end of it? We see the Sam that suggested to Dean they use the evil-immortal doctors alchemy to keep him alive, perfectly willing to steal human livers and such for it: come out full force. He is completely willing to sacrifice a stranger to save Dean. Rather than being hellhent on killing the Trickster, on revenge, he wants him back. At any cost. Even an innocent human life.
This is the Sam we see, after years and years of Dean encouraging this behavior - seasons later, bring an entire apyclopse down on the world to get rid of the Mark of Cain. Force a man to sell his soul. Have Rowena kill the inky person she had ever allowed herself to love - someone she considered her son. To utterly get rid of another person's autonomy (keeping her locked up ect.) to get it.
Note: it is NOT Dean's fault, that Sam broke Amara out, I simply am stating that his "we die for family sammy" and "we do everything for family sammy" throughout the years helped Sam make the decision. But at the end of the day, Sam choose to get rid of the Mark. All of the death that happened because of her is pretty directly on his hands, and he knows this.
I also believe that, while Sam feels massive amounts of sympathy, I believe he struggles a (lot) with empathy (autism + protecting himself/trauma response). He can easily replicate empathy, and act as if he cares but we see his hypocritical behavior consistently come into play and make us think: huh. I don't think he actually understands how Dean, Castiel ect. feels. That is why he comes off as spoiled and ungrateful to Dean in early seasons, and in later seasons does things that are completely amoral and deranged. Simply for those he loves.
Because he struggles to wrap his head around *why* Dean can save him, kill people for him, force an angel on him - but when he releases an apyclopse, him saying "I would do it all again." Is somehow wrong. He doesn't see his own hypocrisy at times and struggles especially to see others.
Anyways.
I support Sammy war crimes.

Hi! I'm not exactly a fan of BNHA and most of my knowledge about it came from fics and your blog. Curiosity about Bakugo's "death" led me to read the last 3 chapters, and the newest one confused me. I'm hoping you could shed some light on it?
Why is it important to the heroes that Bakugo lives? To the point an older, more experienced hero is prepared to sacrifice himself to revive Bakugo? Does he have some kind of secret weapon the heroes can use? What makes him /that/ important and vital to the current crisis?
Thanks for the help. I hope you have a fabulous day! (。・ω・。)ノ♡
I think you already know the answer to your question.
More seriously, I have waited quite a while before answering this ask because I wanted to see what the next chapters would deliver and also so I was sure not to be instantly proven wrong after unleashing a vast quantity of salt. But I don't want to wait longer so here are the usual warnings: this is going to be a salt post, this is my opinion and not some absolute truth, and I accept the risk of being disproved.
Bakugou's death and everything that happened afterwards was pointless and cheap.
I personally found Bakugou's "death" very underwhelming because, especially for such a popular character, there are far better ways to bring one incredible death scene. The manga tried to show us that he went Plus Ultra and how much he had changed but the way it was brought made it underwhelming. His death could have brought more damage to Shigaraki. Or, one could have gone in the opposite direction and shown that yes, he didn't stand a chance against ShigarAFO but put more emotion into it to show that he fought for every additional second. Or he could have "died" protecting someone, which would nicely tie-in with his character arc of learning to be a hero who saves people.
Instead, the result was lukewarm. And the fact that pretty much everyone knows he isn't really dead doesn't bother me. But the last chapters did, especially when Bakugou already got seemingly killed by ShigarAFO during the war arc (and got away with only a couple of cool scars).
But what was a "Ah! That happened! Pretty cool quirk application moment and I like the change we see in Bakugou once he is waiting in purgatory with Flame Might!" moment because a clusterfuck of epic proportion with what is done to try to bring Bakugou back.
The asspulls of all asspulls. The most "WTF" moment of the entire manga and I am saying that while fully aware that Mirio twerked in front of Shigaraki one chapter later.
Edgeshot decides to kill himself on the off chance of bringing Bakugou back to life. He intends to fold himself à la Plus Ultra to become Bakugou's new heart, performing one of the most WTF open-heart surgeries ever on the middle of the battlefield while ShigarAFO is stomping on the remaining members of the Dream team.
How does he know how to do that? Is that how one of his parents die? Why is he doing that? Because his generation failed Bakugou's so he must atone and as an adult, he must save the kid.
The sheer troll logic one must attain to decide something like that is beyond my comprehension.
Edgeshot isn't dying at the time. It's not a "At least, my death might save him" moment. No, this is a top hero, who decided that he had to die to save one kid while the Big Three are fighting for their lives. In the time it took him to pull that not-so-life-saving procedure, Miruko has now lost all of her limbs, now channeling the Dark Knight of Monthy Python but hey, at least, she is certainly doing a better job than Edgeshot at trying to stop Shigaraki from killing them all and destroying UA, which is, in case I need to remind someone, FULL OF PEOPLE WORKING TO KEEP THAT THING IN THE AIR.
To answer your question, not only was "saving" (because, again, Edgeshot doesn't even know if it will work) Bakugou detrimental to the whole operation because they sacrificed a top hero during a situation where all hands on deck were required but it might have been for absolutely nothing.
Even if Bakugou, now part jeans and part ninja, starts breathing again, no one sane of mind would expect to get back to his feet and to fight again.
Now, I will hazard a guess as to why this so-called death was necessary. I could be wrong. But I feel that this was a desperate attempt for Bakugou’s character to have an excuse not to do anything while Izuku is fighting Shigaraki.
Because there has been kind of an elephant in the room for several arcs now.
The manga doesn’t want to outright say that by now, Izuku is stronger than Bakugou. Not just stronger, as in “in a fight, Deku would win”. I am talking about Izuku being in a league on his own by now.
Because here is the thing: you have Bakugou who is a really popular character, who rose to the rank of deuteragonist, and who is defined by two things: he never stops fighting and he never loses. And now that he is fighting the big bad (well, one of them), it’s a problem because if Bakugou wins, that means the entire hero society is incompetent, so is the villain (since he got beaten by a first year) and the MC and OFA is useless. But if he loses or just shown not to be able to keep up with ShigarAFO and Deku and has to stay on the sideline, it’s almost out of character for him because one of the things he keeps repeating to Izuku is “Don’t try to do things alone.” (The Jakku battle and the solo arc, in case you’re wondering.)
I disgress but that’s another thing the solo arc could have been useful for. Really setting up the fact that Izuku can fight with Shigaraki on his own and that he was now in a different power category than his classmates. Instead, we got the “This is the story of how we all become heroes” and the plot must now bend over backwards to justify it.
Also, there is a 75% chance that Bakugou wakes up at some point, with Edgeshot’s quirk, and helps finish ShigarAFO.
So, to answer your question, no, there was no reason for Edgeshot to kill himself over the possibility of reviving Bakugou. Bakugou and Edgeshot had no prior interaction that could justify this. And if Izuku arrived ten seconds later, this sacrifice would have been for nothing.

thinking about how endeavour is thirsted after so badly and it seems the majority of the fandom are willing to forgive because "he's attractive" and "b-but he is atoning for his mistakes!!🥺💔" like first of all those weren't "mistakes", that was flat out abuse. Secondly, some actions cannot be atoned for.
Like this is a man, a man who violently abused and neglected his children, neglected his wife, isolated them from each other and from the outside world. This happens in real life far more than it should ever, and people are simping and stanning him because he's hot? Because they think he is attractive? This is literally how so many people get away with abuse, because they trick others with their appearance or charisma and that is how so much abuse goes unnoticed or people don't believe victims who speak up.
I feel, Shoto's arc is about making peace with his past and realising that anger and denial will not make anything better and will not help him heal. Its about connecting with his brother and sister who were also victims, and healing. Its creating his own family and knowing what happened was not OK, but that it happened and he can't change that.
I think that one of the reasons I really love the relation between Dabi and Shoto is because Shoto is seeing what he could of become is he hadn't decided to consciously work to let go of his anger towards Endeavour and work through his trauma, rather than letting it consume him. He internalises, Dabi projects. Killing Endeavour, killing Enji Todoroki will fulfill Dabi's goal. And once he does that, I'm hoping, he's freed finally from that anger, and he can rest finally. I honestly hope Dabi does kill Endeavour: I want him to die as a result of his actions, to face up and apologise and realise that nothing he ever does will resolve or make up for what he did. To die staring his son in the face. To die staring into the direct result of his abuse.
And even more, how each of Endeavour's victims is working through it differently, really is just amazingly portrayed by Horikoshi. I just really appreciate how it's showing the multitudes of people's reactions to trauma and how it can shape their entire life; Dabi giving himself up to revenge and anger, Fuyumi dedicating herself to protecting children to make sure that what happened to her brothers never happens again on her watch-making sure she can protect them this time; Natsu becoming a med student so he can literally help heal people and help them, and Todoroki becoming a hero to save those who need it the most, to become a real hero unlike his father. It's so raw and realistically portrayed, my heart aches every time I think about it or how it could've turned out differently.
Tl;Dr: the love I have for mama Todoroki and her children is actually insane and here is how I feel about Enji's abuse on his kids

Class of Heroes - Chloestasia
Chloe - Anastasia
Zoe's half sister, and the biological daughter of Lady Audrey Bourgeois. Chloe is the most likely to inherit her parents' wealth when they die.
Chloe was rude, arrogant, petty, and demanding for a multitude of reasons. She had been raised to act that way by her mother as a member of the upper class. She also was punished for being nice to Zoe, which made her resent the girl for getting her in trouble. She also feared her mother's wrath, and decided that people would probably hate her already.
After a year of making everyone's life at school a living hell, Zoe had enough, gaining a boost of confidence while attending. She chewed Chloe out, and made her realize that she had been a horrible sister. It was only at that point that she began to redeem herself.
Chloe doesn't pretend she's become a hero, rather she atoned for what she did, and didn't ask for forgiveness. Some of the less forgiving students appreciate that she does that.
She can still fall back into old habits, but she's working to fix that.
Everyone deserves the chance to change, especially Chloe. She fits perfectly with Anastasia and you can see more of her in Weeby's Class of Heroes! Make sure to reblog, reply, post and ask. @artzychic27 @msweebyness

We obviously need your opinion on the Succession finale (please)
it was pretty damn great!
it got very close to my ideal ending. i wanted the siblings out, or at least not having control over the company anymore, and i sort of/kind of got that. i knew kendall would be haunted by the loss, but i was pretty sure he'd live. i know some ppl were afraid he would die, i mean he does say as much to his siblings, but i had a feeling that wouldn't be the case, because kendall has to live. he has to live with this failure and with the life he took. he has to atone. kendall has always been a kind of dostoevskian figure, and the last shot of him tells us exactly that, that he will have to walk with his demons from now on.
if i thought anyone would die, i might've guessed roman, but i'm glad he was "freed" from the cage he had been trapped in since childhood. i do think that his spiteful comment about kendall's kids not being legitimate shows that he hasn't and will never let go of his father. roman will always be his most loyal son. it's just that now he has to figure out who he is, too. the truest thing he said this episode is that all of it, all of that fuss for the succession, is nothing, nothing but bullshit.
and shiv....oy vey. ok so i agree with all the posts decrying the bleak misogyny of it all and how shiv can only have power as wife and mother and how fucked up that is. that being said, the waters are too murky here. shiv was also ready to become logan 2.0. sure, she wouldn't have been as bad as kendall maybe. but she was willing to forego many beliefs and many people in order to secure that CEO spot. i'm sure she thinks she was the best for the job morally too, but ehhh. like, yes, it IS fucked up that all her power means nothing, after all, in this patriarchal system, but she was willing to prop up that system further. even after acknowledging the fact that her father couldn't entirely see women as people.
so i feel bad for her, but i'm also glad she made that choice, to, as others have said, "break the cycle" and not allow kendall to become logan and for roman to be further victimized. was there a thought in the back of her mind that if she voted yes, her husband would be made CEO and she'd get to rule via him? maybe, but i think shiv knows she no longer has the upperhand. she's the one who reached out first this episode and basically asked tom for a second shot at their marriage, and tom doesn't trust her. we saw how he reacted to her pregnancy, thinking it was a "move" against him. tom was honest with matsson, he IS hypervigilant.
so shiv's best option here is to divorce (and maybe get a big chunk out of whatever settlement they'd agree on) and remove herself from the equation, but the very human tragedy here is that she probably won't, because she has been doing this all her life, trying to please the men in her vicinity and show them she's worth it. maybe if she keeps hanging around she'll get to have a piece of the pie. one benefit of all this is i think shiv will come to understand her mother a lot better and maybe end up sympathizing with her. that being said, the tom/shiv dynamic was left on a fascinating cliffhanger, imo. very much nightmarish, but compelling.
it would be fascinating to get a "10 years later" glimpse of these characters. remember the siblings buying Pierce? what will happen to that? remember The Hundred? will Shiv try to make her kid the next successor? how soon will Tom get ousted as CEO? will he drop dead from exhaustion? will Ebba finally leave Matsson (lol)? and most importantly, will willa's new play be successful??? i need my girl to get her pulitzer.
anyway, this was one hell of a ride and i'm glad i was on it!

hello brazilian fan here, happy to see your requests open 😍. would you like to ask how would reiner react to a darling with a rotten past? like drugs, prostitution, crimes. she feels ashamed and has been working on her own rehab for a few years now. I believe he would identify more with her because he has also had a bad time and doesn't forgive himself like her. thanks for opening the space ❤️
I think that Reiner has been so beaten down by life that he really doesn't judge people for their pasts anymore; hell, he's one of the few Eldians that doesn't hate himself or others for being Eldian--he hates himself for a lot of other reasons though, lol.
This means he wouldn't judge his Darling for her past, especially since she's trying to change now. He wishes he had the strength to try and change foe the better like that, and over time he'd be inspired to try and live despite everything that's happened to him. Instead of wanting to die, he wants to try to live even if he can never atone for what he's done. His Darling inspires him so much...too much, sometimes.
His sense of self-worth becomes intertwined with Darling, and he believes that without her, he's got nothing to live for. He NEEDS her to be with him. He literally cannot live without her in his life. This leads to him becoming incredibly protective and possessive of her; he'll follow her around and stalk her, insist on always being with her when she goes out, and he's not afraid to confront people for talking to his Darling in a way he doesn't like.
He's never sure how to comfort her when she feels bad about herself. He knows her past is dark and complicated, but he insists that she can't be a bad person. He'll hold her tightly and demand that she stop talking about herself like that, because she IS a good person. She's his angel.
As much as he lusts after her and wants to enjoy sex with her/"making love", he's always paranoid about making her uncomfortable by bringing up past memories. He's hypersensitive to her responses and is constantly whispering "You okay? I can stop, if you want...just tell me." He's terrified of scaring her or traumatizing her with sex, and being just another man that hurt her.
He'll do constant sweeps of their home to ensure she isn't hiding any drugs and is staying true to her promise of staying sober. It's not that he doesn't trust her, it's just...he falls into his vices and maladaptive coping mechanisms sometimes too, and she's only human. He just wants to support her, even if he has to do it behind her back.
Sometimes he tends to romanticize her trauma and his own, believing that they're both destined to be together because of how broken they are/were and how they can both save each other. It's not healthy, but neither is he.
Has beaten her old clients if they try anything with her, and needed to be pulled off of them. And if anyone calls her something rude or tries to shame her for her past as a prostitute, he'll beat them to death if nobody nearby stops him. Even in Marley, he'll use his position as a Warrior to make sure he's not legally accountable for it. NOBODY is allowed to call her that, especially someone who took advantage of her misfortune while she was on the streets.

Tw: Referenced Child Death, Blood, Drowning, Mentions of Bullying, Swearing (pretty much everything you expect from the Friday the 13th franchise) Religious Themes
So… This is a bit of a weird introduction for these two but the idea just stuck in my mind and refused to leave. I’m not sure when I will write a followup yet, but I just had to get this out.
Summary: Jude remembers a person from her past as it comes back to haunt her, as it always does. However, nothing can prepare her for the task she is about to undertake…
Dividers by delishlydelightfuldividers
Tumblr media
‘Camp Crystal Lake’ was aptly named, for during the Summer the pure, clear waters glittered brilliantly under the bright midday sun.
She stood at the base of the pier and watched as he was pushed in. Good Christian boys and girls had seen fit to cast stones and jeer cruelly at the poor outcasted creature. Jason Voorhees was tormented daily by the same children whom Mrs Voorhees kept fed and cared for. The very woman he cried out for as he helplessly drowned.
She stood at the base of the pier and watched, as his large, bulbous head, streaked with blood, was swallowed by deep, endless blue. For a while he desperately splashed around in an effort to fight the undertow, but Jason couldn’t swim. He had never been taught. Eventually he disappeared completely.
She stood idly by the pier, and did nothing.
(I could swim. I could’ve saved him.)
Jude had always tried to push the blame on someone else. It was always the easy way out; as humans loathe to be at fault for their actions. If she admitted responsibility, she might be as guilty as his judges and executioners.
She had always thought herself better than that; above them somehow. Though she knew deep down she was not. She still turned the away other cheek.
(Why did no one come to save him? Where were the adults? Where were they?)
Ever since the ringleader, Evan, had snuck a snake under her pillow, terrifying her to panicked tears, Jude had been wary of drawing his ire. Her fear of the slithering reptiles, to this day, can still be traced back to that prank. Going against him wasn’t worth it.
So was that not enough of a reason? Why should she suffer for his sake? Why should she care at all about that ‘little freak’ Jason Voorhees?
(Did his life have so little meaning?)
It occurred to her only years after the fact that it had been the first time she had watched someone die.
It would not be the last time, of course. Her fate was as intertwined with tragedy as her cousin’s was. It took a lifetime to understand that the inevitable had been set in motion long before she was born, by her mother and her mother’s mother. Their trauma had echoed into her blood; bled into her very soul.
Then, Jude momentarily held the power in her hands to change his fate, but squandered it. She did not send him a passing glance, nor offer a kind word, or even reassure him that she did not find him repulsive; as all the others claimed he was. Because the truth of the matter was that she did. She did.
Her mother instilled within her the holy values of Christ, but she failed to act as he surely would have. Though she dutifully obeyed and assimilated as one with the faithful flock, as meek as the lamb, in her lion’s heart she was a coward.
The hypocrisy is all too real. If only she could atone for those sins, to be forged in fire; if she only could become a woman worthy to wield the sword of God.
But your failures can stay with you for a long time.
Camp Crystal Lake was closed the following day.
Tumblr media
“…Y’know, we really do pick the days with the absolute worst fuckin’ mojo to go and risk our lives.”
Zach cast Jude a sly glance from behind the wheel. A stubby cigarette hung lazily from his lips as he puffed fumes of white smoke out the open window.
“I mean, on the 13th? I dunno, Judie…”
She snorted, gladly taking the bait.
“You’re so superstitious.”
Although she knew her partner was only having a bit of a laugh, she would be damned if she didn’t take the opportunity to make fun of him.
“Me? Superstitious?” Zach laughed heartily.
“You’re the one who thinks a bunch of rocks can create force fields, and that being an ‘Aries’ or whatever makes me all hot-headed and impulsive.”
“But you are impulsive!” She argued back, grinning wildly.
“All I’m saying is no amount of, of…” He gesticulated vaguely with his free hand. “… Troglodytes or whatever are gonna save you from getting possessed, get off it!”
She scoffed indignantly, acting mortally offended.
“First of all, they’re called Turquoises and they absolutely do give you great spiritual protection and they ward off negative energy!” Jude scolded him. “And besides, with what we’ve seen in our lifetimes, is it really so hard to believe?”
Zach began to amusedly shake his head.
“You read too many funky internet articles.” He turned the curve on the road, forcing Jude to lean to the right. “They’re gonna rot your brain.”
Jude flipped her hair nonchalantly.
“That’s a pity, yours is already gone.”
“Ha, ha,” Zach deadpanned, rolling his one remaining eye playfully.
“If only your pretty crystals were able stop a rampaging werewolf, huh? I mean, I could certainly do without all these ugly scars.” He rubbed his chin, thumbing the bumpy mark by his lip. He glanced subtly at the rear view mirror, and something dimmed in his expression.
For a moment she was at a loss for words.
“They’re not ugly, Z…” It was all she could think to reassure him, softening her gaze considerably.
He chuckled. “Thanks, but I can still see, y’know?”
Jude watched sombrely as he traced the dark leather of his eyepatch. She wondered if it got any easier to be missing a part of you, or more depressing.
“Anyway!” Zach cleared his throat, putting an end to that little conversation. “You’ve got the map. Are we on the right path or what?”
Sensing an urge to ignore the previous topic, Jude unfolded the laminated material and observed a criss-cross of beige and blue lines and dashes illustrating the New Jersey roads and highways. It was disturbingly familiar, and somehow it was only then that she was reminded where they both were headed, and the significance of that place to her.
“Yeah, we are…” She murmured.
Zach tapped some stray ashes out the window. She felt a sort of regretful prick at the back of her neck; sharp and insidious.
He pondered out loud, none the wiser: “A whole bunch of kids turning up missing, and all they’ve got in common is sex, drugs and Camp Crystal Lake…”
She almost flinched at hearing that name again.
“Makes you wonder why they’re stupid enough to keep going back…” He shook his head in disbelief.
“It’s definitely the work of a malevolent spirit… a vengeful type, probably, I mean,” Jude hastily cut in, fumbling with the map.
“Why, what makes you so sure?” Zach turned to stare at her inquisitively, furrowing his brows.
She swallowed thickly, enduring the telltale drop in her gut that always accompanied confessions like this; it seemed Zach was always receiving them.
“…I think I knew him when he was alive.” Was all she could manage.
“…Ah.” A grimace of sympathy dawned on his face. The mood abruptly soured into grim silence. The car rattled as it hit a bump in the road.
Zach sucked in a breath. “…You wanna talk about it?”
Jude felt something inside her steadily deflate.
“No, not really…” She admitted, tossing the map haphazardly onto the dashboard where it shined in the afternoon sun.
“Okay.”
He nodded, seemingly having expected this reply. Jude focused numbly on the sizzle of his cigarette as blew smoke rather forcefully out of his mouth.
“Well, Ollie’s more or less just kickin’ down the road next to us. Give or take a couple hundred miles…” He sent her a cheeky grin that she knew, even without looking, was masking his genuine concern. “We could always just pawn it off on them, you know.”
She scrunched her face up in distaste at the idea. Zach was not the kind of man to push responsibility on others, so the fact he was actually willing to do so for her sake was embarrassing. She didn’t like the thought of being so sensitive that she couldn’t deal with her past; it made her feel like she was just being a liability.
“…No. I need to do this.” She insisted with finality.
Jude had begun to realise she’d never properly confronted her guilt about what had happened to Jason Voorhees. She liked to believe that she’d changed; that she wasn’t the same weak-willed, easily swayed lamb from her childhood, or the same confused adolescent. That maybe she could make up for all the years that she had been.
But it felt like a piece of her had died five years ago, and with that her cowardly heart. If only that meant she could be strong and resolute now.
“It just feels like…” Jude stared at her pale, shaking hands as she tried to crystallise her emotions in words. “…I can never escape this feeling. Like, like all this stuff just follows me everywhere and I can’t ever do anything about it.”
“…Yeah, I get it.” He squashed his cigarette in the holder before continuing: “I guess some people are just bound by destiny…”
Jude knit her brows in thought for a moment before sending him an incredulous look: “Bound by destiny? And you tell me not to read ‘funky internet articles’”
“Hey now, that was from my favourite book series as a kid!” Zach raised a hand in mock defence. “If you’re gonna accuse me of plagiarism, at least get your sources right.”
“Honestly, that sounds like a pretty lame book series to me, and I used to be a sucker for that YA craze.”
“Oh really?”
His distracting banter lightened the atmosphere considerably, and by the time Jude saw the bright and familiar ‘Camp Crystal Lake’ painted on a welcome sign, she no longer felt that strange, heavy pressure weighing on her chest.
Tumblr media
Zach whistled as he took in the dilapidated cabins. They had certainly seen better days; though this was made somewhat more palatable by the bountiful Summer vegetation and good weather. The titular lake lay beyond the woodland, and shone pure and bright just as it did all those years ago.
“Wow… Empty. Nice view, though.” He lightly pushed the car door shut, his signature trench coat hoisted over his shoulder.
“…Yeah, it’s always been great here.” Jude said airily, pointing toward the flash of blue obscured by trees. “See the lake? We used to go swimming in the mornings, it was that temperate.”
Zach’s eyebrows arched in surprise. “And it didn’t freeze your bones the second you jumped in?”
“No, actually, but it was always really refreshing! Woke you up straight away.”
“Damn! I bet it did.”
Her smile faltered as that happy memory was soured by another, more arresting one.
“For those of us who c-could swim, at least…”
Zach had fortunately fixed his attention on their trunk, so he did not see her grimace. He licked his lips as his calloused hands found the cold, humming surface of his prize. Jude turned back around only to click her tongue at the sight.
“Really? You’re gonna take the whole damn cooler of whiskey in there with you?”
“Hey, I don’t wanna be thirsty!”
“Or sober.” She finished for him, shaking her head disapprovingly. Zach gave a flippant shrug and lifted the icebox into his arms. He returned afterward for his razor and toothbrush, which he had apparently deemed as comparatively less important.
To be entirely honest, Jude wasn’t too worried. If there was one special skill Zach could brag about, it was the ability to still manage to hit perfect bullseyes while completely sloshed; not to mention his obvious lack of depth perception. She noticed, too, that he was wearing all his fighting equipment today. Only a fool would think him unprepared.
None of the cabins left behind by the mass exodus had been particularly appealing, but they chose the biggest one that had all the different bedrooms - albeit they were in various stages of disrepair - because it was both the most defensible and most protected from the outside elements. It may have been Summer, but that wasn’t accounting for the late night chill.
Jude felt a pang of recognition hit her as she entered, realising far too late that this had been where the old staff members would usually stay. Her focus was drawn irresistibly to a picture frame resting crookedly on a wall, some kind of relic of the distant past. Behind the ever-so-slightly cracked glass were the previous camp councillors, their joyful faces forever frozen in time.
She tried to look elsewhere, but all of it turned up a new, fresher scar in the landscape. The entire house reeked sickeningly of death, something she’d become far too accustomed to. She already regretted coming here at all, even though she was the one who’d convinced her partner to do so.
“Looks like this is about the only place I’d feel good about staying in.” Zach huffed as he tossed his coat onto a dusty hanger. “I’m sure you feel the same.”
“Now, we’re both gonna have to do a bit of investigating, it seems. I don’t think this is gonna be an Albuquerque situation on our hands here.”
Jude watched him light up another cigarette, floorboards creaking as she approached. “I don’t think so either, but I don’t think we should get too comfortable here too quickly…”
His cheek twitched, thin grey smoke curling out of his nose.
“It’s only temporary until we take out the target.”
“I know, but… I mean, look at this place.”
“Well, it’s the best we got, Judie.” He retorted. “I get you might not wanna linger too long in a place that reminds you-“ He wisely stopped that sentence before it continued, busying himself with unpacking instead. Jude found herself inexplicably fascinated with the frayed rug on the floor.
I need to get away. It’s too stifling in here…
“How about…” She started, letting a bag of spare clothes drop onto the floor. “You go chum it up with the locals, and I go inspect the camp grounds?”
Zach, who had been in the middle of extracting several pairs of black socks from his suitcase, studied her carefully for a moment. She caught a momentary flash of concern in his eye, a sight not so rare.
“…You sure?” He questioned her gently.
“Mhm.” Jude nodded. She briskly zipped open a duffle bag and began to empty out the contents onto the sofa. It contained all of her usual ghost-hunting equipment, medical supplies and ammunition, spilling out in a sort of jumbled mess.
“Well… Alright.” He said finally, with a hint of reluctance, gesturing to her weapons pack. “Go prepared, though.”
She bit back a sigh, unable to help feeling agitated at his cautious tone. “I’ll just secure the perimeter, there’ll be no need to drag around a big heavy axe…”
“But you’ll be sure to take your dagger with you, yeah?”
“Yeah, yeah… I’ll be fine. I’m not a newbie anymore, remember?” Jude reassured him, sending him a chastising glare. “You worry too much.”
At this Zach backed off, holding his hands up in defeat. Between his fraternal ribbing and casual teaching style, he often felt like more of an older brother to her than a mentor, but she still was distantly aware of his seniority and felt a tinge if remorse for her short responses…
“See, I know your aim is shit…” He teased her with a rising smirk, single brown eye gleaming with mirth.
“Oh, shut up!”
An hour later, Jude found herself standing once again at the wooden pier leading out to the lake. The crystal clear waters lay still and serene, almost mirror-like in form. She saw herself reflected back in those glassy depths; once a girl, now a woman.
It’s been 12 full years since Jason Voorhees died, she thought. 12 years since I've been here… Standing in this exact spot.
At first she wondered if it would feel different now that she was older and had time to reflect on the past, but nothing had prepared her for such a disturbingly familiar sight. Now it seemed her guilt gnawed at her anew; though she knew she had no right to feel sorry for herself in the wake of that poor boy’s death.
Still, Jude watched herself frown, It’s quite haunting.
It had been strange for her to come back and walk the same paths she had so often tread as a child. The camp might’ve undergone a brief revival once or twice, but now it was neglected and overgrown, and she passed by many an abandoned communal building and overturned canoe on her way here. That had instilled a sort of nostalgic sorrow in her heart, despite it all. Her Summers here were typically enjoyable and fun, particularly Mrs Voorhees’ wonderful cooking…
The smile that tugged at her lips was bittersweet. In her childhood memories, Camp Crystal Lake had been filled with smiling, laughing children and friendly camp counsellors who all wore happy faces and played guitar. Seeing it so deserted now was strikingly eerie. There was something so intrinsically wrong about the barren silence, only punctuated by chirping birdsong and warm, gentle breeze rustling the leaves.
Unexpectedly, a shocking pinprick on the back raised her finer hairs and made her shiver despite the heat. Jude whirled around, startling a flock of nearby birds. She backed away slowly from the pier - mindful that the ghost of a boy who had drowned would most likely reside there - and scanned the forest treeline with a steadily rising heart rate.
Zach? No, he can’t have come back so quickly… And he wouldn’t scare me like that, not in this place.
Suspecting the other possiblity, Jude clicked through various frequencies on the spirit box that had been clipped onto her belt. In her experience it was rare to actually hear any tangible voices through it, but with enough practice radio static and spikes of activity had become a sort of code to be cracked and translated into human tongue.
But…
Nothing. Nothing at all. Not even a hint of a ghost.
Jude kept a ready hand at her gun holster as she hiked up the somewhat overgrown brush, searching further for any signs of supernatural activity on the box. Still, after half an hour of blindly searching, no signals. She actually doubted if there was any Wi-Fi or radio waves that could reach this far away into the wilderness since the area wasn’t exactly very populated, but it was still discouraging nevertheless.
And creepy, she noted. Jude was consequently no longer in the sightseeing mood, and began to wearily trudge her way back to the cabins. It seemed her gun burnt a hole through her jeans as she walked, just like she itched from nervous tension.
It would be too easy to write that off, but she wasn’t stupid. Her sharp instincts had been honed by years of hunting and being hunted by monsters.
Someone, or something, had been watching her from behind in those supposedly uninhabited woods, and she had just felt it.
Jude bit her lip anxiously. She was absolutely certain the revenant they were searching for was Jason. It almost felt like all this investigation was pointless, she now realised was most likely the very entity that had been lurking by the lake.
And maybe, she thought, he recognises me…
Tumblr media
Her uneasy mood stayed with her as she watched the skies and the sun begin to sink below the horizon, coating the world in blazing orange hues. Jude watched from the cabin window as their shared car pulled up again in the mounting darkness, left headlight still busted from their last battle.
“It’s Jason, I…” She began as he wedged the door open, stopping at his flabbergasted look.
“I… Got takeout.” He presented a plastic bag wafting aromatic spices from across the room.
“Oh. Right.” She uncrossed her arms, and it was as if the smell of food reminded her stomach it had been empty almost the whole day.
Oh my god, It’s McDonalds… Did he just drive like five miles for that? You know what, who cares…
“By all means, continue.” He offered, striding over to the couch to unwrap the steaming package. Jude felt all will to do anything but eat completely leave her body as she impatiently took her share from him.
“No, actually…” She reconsidered it. Would she really even be telling him something he didn’t already know? “You go first.”
“Well…” He began, the old leather couch sagging under him as he sat down. “I’ll tell you this: just about everybody I spoke to told me this was a bad idea.”
She raised an inquisitive eyebrow at this, munching on some chunky chips.
“I mean, it really seems like the locals believe this place is under a curse… Pretty standard, but I’ve rarely seen people as spooked as this.”
He shook his head at the memory.
“But that’s good, right? Means the locals at least aren’t foolish enough to poke the bear.” Jude offered, licking her greasy fingers.
He paused to eat, first digging heartily into his burger. Their lack of electricity meant they were forced to use an emergency supply of candles and lanterns to provide light, casting an eerie glow over Zach’s face as his expression grew more grim.
“…It would be, except for the fact this place’s reputation has somehow made it into a weirdly popular tourist trap.” He shook his head, pursing his lips. “Must be the danger of it. I could think of a more obvious reason why they might be lured here though…”
“I don’t think that’s the case.” Jude cut in.
“Oh?”
“See, what I was about to tell you was… It’s Jason. I’m absolutely certain it’s him. I was at the lake earlier, and… He was definitely watching me.”
It all sort of spilled out in a hurry, and she gave a nervous little laugh, skin prickling in discomfort.
“But how can you be sure?” Zach, ever the contrarian, set down his half-eaten burger. “You’re not just basing this off ‘vibes,’ right?”
“No, no.” She reassured him.
The sinking feeling in her gut started again.
“It’s just… What happened with Jason, well…”
Jude suddenly felt as if something was caught in her throat, and took a sip of her soda.
“…Jason drowned.”
“…He-“
BANG
In an instant Zach had his revolver in hands, aiming it directly at the source of the mysterious noise. Jude’s heart jumped right out of her chest as she drew her own pistol, following his lead. He abandoned his food, cautiously moving over to peer out the dusted cabin window…
Outside, their car’s hood had been caved in.

I know this is just from the Potato Sack ARG so it's probably in no way canon but the very thought of this is sending me
Quick explanation for those who don't know: the Potato Sack ARG was a celebration upon the release of Portal 2 (hence the potato) where a bunch of easter eggs were added to a bunch of different Steam games that you could then decode and put into a website to get an early release of Portal 2. Amnesia the Dark Descent got 2 major pieces of the ARG's puzzle added to it for the event (and also released the Justine expansion and Remember short story collection), and here is one of them.
This is Elise Zimmermann leaving a phonograph message to Daniel. Read the pure beauty that is her tirade to the man who murdered her before I start dissecting it to point out my favorite parts. (I should let everyone know now I don't know how to add a Keep Reading so I'm very sorry for the length)
Tumblr media
I lost my mind reading this the first time, I don't know how to explain how excited this made me
Let's dive into it, shall we?
Tumblr media
We start off with Elise laying down the law, as she of course should. Gotta make sure Daniel understands where he stands as a person (Unfortunately, this is being said to New Daniel who hasn't even gone to Storage yet, so he has no idea what she's talking about). But even still....
Tumblr media
Not "you monster." Not "you murderer." Not "inhuman" or "evil" or any number of words that would perfectly fit to describe Daniel. No, it's just "you selfish old boy." This is probably my favorite part of the whole thing
Tumblr media
Now THIS is important. Elise would be totally within her rights to want vengeance upon this man, to want to see him die or see horrible things happen to him. But instead, she offers him redemption. Instead of taking the easy gratification of watching him get killed the way she was or something, she wants Daniel to really pay for what he's done. She wants to see him go through the hard work of atoning for his actions, which is not an easy thing to do!! She wants to see him
a. Fully understand and accept responsibility for what he's done
b. Feel guilt for doing a terrible thing (but not such crushing guilt that he erases himself just to not feel it anymore, that's just selfishness all over again)
c. Put in the effort and the work to pay for this thing, to truly balance the scales of justice and do something that will make it right
d. And then come out of this actually having become a better person
Elise is the REALEST!! How many times do you see this in real life or in fiction?? Not many!! Usually swift revenge is what people want the most, but LOOK at how wise this kid is!! It's more satisfying for her, more punishing for him, and has the added benefit of actually improving a person so they won't do this kind of thing again!! I cannot describe how much I love Elise Zimmermann
Tumblr media
Now we're into the ARG stuff (the first letter to the answers of each of these spelled out the clue you were supposed to put into the website) but I still got a lot of enjoyment out of this. To me, this reads as... well, I have to explain a little
What I got from this (and it was sort of an inkling of an idea I already had that was affirmed by this) is that Elise's ghost is following Daniel around the castle. I mean, the Shadow, Alexander, the Gatherers, none of them can make doors blow open, lights go out, and books fly off the shelves by themselves. Those are all distinctly ghostly things to have happen. Not to mention the way the flame bursts to life seemingly of its own accord over the spot where Elise died. That was the one that really got me thinking about it. Who would care so much about Daniel seeing and understanding what had happened there? Probably the girl who had been murdered.
But now getting back to Elise's phonograph message. To me, this reads as Elise, having followed Daniel around this castle, is also reading all the notes Daniel finds over his shoulder. Much like New Daniel, Elise can't make heads or tails of a lot of the information he's finding. So to me it sort of feels like Elise is saying, "From the bits and pieces of your life I've been able to put together I'm very confused, please explain it to me, I'm invested now." Daniel's life is sort of like a soap opera for her to watch (honestly Daniel's life is a soap opera for New Daniel to watch too)
(Can you imagine her reaction to the drama of Alexander locking Daniel out of the Inner Sanctum though, right after he'd killed Elise?? She'd be like, "OHHHH THE TEA IS HOT!!!" )
(Also I love how offended she is that Daniel laughed when she mentioned Gabriel. My brother and I actually joked about this while making Elise in Miitopia, I will add that at the very end if you're interested in seeing it) (She's also quite offended that Daniel knows Gabriel at all which I also love)
Tumblr media
This is my other very favorite part in the whole thing. She's fed up with Daniel's low sanity shenanigans, come on man the girl just wants her answers
And then I can only imagine this next part goes something like
Elise: "Where did you leave your sister?"
New Daniel: "I have a sister???"
Elise, completely done with him: "Daniel, you are going mad!! Go home, call on her, ask her name, and let her bring you home to England."
I feel like Elise is just thinking that Daniel's a complete idiot, which he is. I also love that we go from Daniel needing to redeem himself to Daniel just needing to go home and take care of his sister to Daniel needing to be taken care of by his sister. Her faith in his abilities is steadily decreasing.
Elise: Daniel, just go home and take care of your sister, okay? Can you manage that much?
Daniel: Who...?
Elise:
Elise: Never mind, go home and let your sister take care of you
(I do love that Elise wants to see Daniel get to go home and just be happy with Hazel though)
Tumblr media
This ending is just to let you know what the puzzle is, but there you have it!! Elise's message to Daniel which is almost definitely not canon but in tandem with Waiting for the Rain made Elise my favorite character in the game besides Daniel. I love the thought of a sassy, judgy ghost child following the man who murdered her around the castle, seeing him wipe his memory and stumble terrified and confused through this nightmare of his own creation, and just realizing,
"Oh no"
"He's stupid"
And as she realizes he has no memory, this means he actually has a better shot at redemption than his former self ever would have 'cause he might not be as incredibly selfish (it probably doesn't hurt that in some of Daniel's low sanity ramblings in-game he doesn't realize that Elise's voice that he keeps hearing is a flashback, he thinks he's hearing a real little girl right now and is trying to find her and save her from whoever's chasing her)
"Okay Daniel, I'll allow you to redeem yourself, but only if you're not stupid"
Speaking of Waiting for the Rain, I just want to say real quick that reading that story was an emotional gutpunch for me for several obvious reasons, but one less obvious one was how much Elise and Daniel struck me as being alike. Their childhoods, their personalities, their want to escape their constrictive lives....The whole time I was reading it I just kept thinking, "No Daniel no!!" because the parallels between them are so strong, I couldn't help thinking if they'd met each other in a different situation they would've been really good friends. You can probably see where I'm going with this lol. This is clearly far from the ideal situation, and Daniel doesn't know Elise is following him through the castle, but if he did, like in the Potato Sack ARG, I think that'd be a pretty great dynamic to see for them, strange and wrong as it is to say
So there is my take on Daniel and Elise for this all but nonexistent fandom nowadays to do as they please with. Disaster ghost child realizes her murderer is functionally a new person and an idiot so decides to help him as best she can (while also still constantly insulting and scaring him at every opportunity).
Bonus: If anyone is interested in hearing Elise's voice actress deliver this I did eventually manage to find a video of it!!
youtube
Bonus bonus (just our dumb joke while trying to pick Elise's eyes):

[Magi rewatch] Episode 14: Alibaba’s Answer [Part 2]
Tumblr media
With no context it's like they're just chatting
Tumblr media
This is still so fucking hilarious. The fact that he just went and said, yeah, pretend we didn't lose any right and all that, pretty please
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She needed a moment to process it.
I feel like the manga showed better how Alibaba's 100% aware his argument is bullshit, but this one might be a bit overthinking on my part. In the manga simply Alibaba's and Ka Koubun's thoughts align, where here we only get Ka Koubun being like this is bs, and Alibaba thinking the argument is forced. It's not as jarring as many other changes, but can be misunderstood if you're not paying attention.
Tumblr media
When the princess actually decides to tell the Emperor about some bratty prince's pseudoarguments, rather than disregard them entirely right away.
It's a slight difference here. In the manga Alibaba thinks more about Kougyoku's lack of authority and the fact that she doesn't want to get married, while in the anime he comments how she folds easily under pressure, and then the marriage thing. Obviously, I like the manga version more - there's more of Alibaba understanding the circumstances, but the anime isn't that bad either, as it frames it as him just being able to read her that easily.
Tumblr media
One day his bs will save your country, you don't even know
Tumblr media
Still, you gotta appreciate the fact that she didn't actually fold that easily.
Also, yeah, yeah, Kougyoku spam. She's my beautiful daughter, I'll do what I want.
Tumblr media
Your time to shine, Womanizer of the Seven Seas (fuck you, tho, not literally)
But also Jesus fuck. I wasn't sure bc of the wording, tho looking back, yeah, it was obviously that, but he's just saying that, yeah, Balbadd's joining the SSA, so it'd be hard for the Emperor to try to conquer Balbadd, and I'm like, bro, you've been waiting for this moment.
Tumblr media
Ok, a change, in the manga Sinbad is surprised to have Alibaba join in. And also Alibaba is, once again, much calmer about it. Here he does kinda look like he's clutching at straws, while in the manga he was talking like it was obvious, how did you not know about it?
But also, it does make me think about that time he later used Sinbad's name to get the pirates sent to Sindria, rather than potentially becoming slaves and all that. It's kind of funny. But in his defence, Sinbad started, and he just rolled with it, and also later did the same again, so.
Tumblr media
God, she looks so tired.
Can't blame you, girl.
Tumblr media
Grl no
Tumblr media
The way he's just running after her yelling "Himegimi! Himegimi!" XDDD
Tumblr media
"This really just happened?"
Tumblr media
The way his shoulders just fell
Tumblr media
Proud dad
Tumblr media
Honestly, that's a really sweet moment
Tumblr media
Shame it's about to get really, really bad soon
Tumblr media
Grl no
Tumblr media
GRL NO
Tumblr media
NO GRL NO HE'S AN ASSHOLE
Tumblr media
Live Ka Koubun reaction
Ok, so, stuff changed. In the manga Alibaba tells them more to do, Sahbmad & Barkak included, while some stuff is skipped, which, alright, but then we have Barkak being like, yea, people will call for our execution alongside the previous kind, so let us atone for our sins by death, and like ???? First of all, in the manga it's Alibaba who says that people will want 23rd executed, but he'd rather send him to be held in confinement, since he still doesn't want to kill his own brother, and then he's like there's no laws yet, anyway. In the naime there's, like I've said, this whole Barkak being yo so we're gonna die, too, k, and Alibaba's like how about no there's no laws for it anyway, I need you guys to help build a republic, and like. Is it for the sake of drama or what. Also he kinda makes it sound like he wants 23rd to help, too, he doesn't even mention the confinement.
Tumblr media
Kinda lmao
Tumblr media
speech time
Huh, I thought it'd be a bit longer, but we cut to Banker really fast
Tumblr media
I mean. It looks a little silly. I know it's about there being a lot of them, but it looks like these birds are simply that big
Tumblr media
I can't believe Aladdin just exploded
Tumblr media
Bye bye, Aladdin!
Tumblr media
Ok, back to speech. And also the building is so pretty.
How loud is he speaking, actually.
Tumblr media
Oh, hi there, in the manga... tbh, I don't think we know where you are in the manga.
Tumblr media
You're about to stop smiling very, very soon
Tumblr media
: ' )
Also, ngl, The Bravery is growing on me a little bit. It has that nostalgic feel to it, y'know? It reminds me about SAO's Crossing Field a little.

NOW STAY WITH ME!
Undertaker was Vincent Phantomhive's mother (Claudia?)'s butler. Yet she died before him because he failed to protect her, so he paid for it with his life. Thus becoming a grim reaper. One who knows the underworld eerily well, as well as the secrets of the Phantomhive family, despite only being a mortician.
Why would I think this? Remember when Sebastian faked his death in Book of Murders, and Tanaka said is was the ultimate failing of duty to die before your master if you are a Phantomhive butler.
We also know he cared about Claudia. You don't keep someones memorial locket unless you were either their family member or their servant. (Actually, my grandmother told me this once! I'm assuming its true based on research I did too.) But the other names on it leads me to believe that more that one member of the household died back then. If the chain means anything, then Vincent Phantomhive (and don't forget his sister Francis)'s parents ALSO died mysteriously! Unless we already know how Cedric Phantomhive(Vincent's father) died and I just forgot? XD
I think everything Undertaker is doing is to atone for his sin of failing to protect the family. His goal is probably to create a fake soul in Ciel(the dead one xD) and put it inside this Ciel for Sebastian to eat (but this is extra problematic because the soul was already sacrificed to Sebastian wasn't it? But I'm sure Undertaker thought of that.)
The funny thing is that I'm not entirely sure that Sebastian is actually going to kill Ciel. How are demons made? The live action said they are fallen angels but actually demons were all once human, fallen angels are archdemons. If Ciel loses his soul it doesn't mean he will die. The Phantomhive family will die though because Elizabeth will join someone else family, and Edward is a Midford so he will carry on the Midford name.
Thats it for my Undertaker theory but...you know, I *think* that Elizabeth actually knew Ciel wasn't the real Ciel from the start too. I also think she liked the sickly twin more than the real Ciel to begin with anyway. No proof, but we know how smart and resourceful she can be. Madam Red obviously knew the truth too.

Now that you've done Joseph for the blorbo game, you get struck by the uno reverse wild card! Curious to see who you'd do :)
YIPPEE! Starting off with probably one of my most tragic blorbos:
Tumblr media
The Dragon/Demon King from The Cruel King and The Great Hero. It's a very underrated game I absolutely recommend, the release trailer appeared in my YouTube feed and was completely sold on it from that alone.
Just. AUGH. He used to be evil until he was defeated and the hero that defeated him spared his life and wanted him to become a better person instead of atoning for his sins by being killed. And then they both became friends and then the hero fucking died and gave The Dragon King his baby daughter and begged him to look after her and make sure she grew up safe and strong and AUFJGJGJFJJJJJHHHHHHHHHHHHH-
And then the hero's daughter (Yuu, her name is) ends up wanting to be a hero just like her human father and so to help her achieve her dream The Dragon King decides to train her. To eventually kill him. Because he's a big bad monster and if he's slain by her she'll be loved by the humans and all that and 😭😭😭😭 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I honestly think he's one of the best redeemed villains I've seen in media (apart from Zuko), even though he has become good and strives to do good things, the bad stuff he has already done hasn't magically fixed itself or is ignored, it's still very much there.
we do not talk about the boss fight against him (crying really really hard, that defense lowering was uncalled for)
Next up is the original blorbo: Cheval
Tumblr media
Like genuinely I can't think of any other character that would've been a blorbo to me before him.
Can you tell I like redemption arcs from depressing and messed up characters
He got so much hate when mhs1 first released and it makes me so mad. "He's so edgy" HE WATCHED HIS MOTHER GET CRUSHED TO DEATH AT AROUND 12/13 I DON'T THINK A KID WITH UNADDRESSED TRAUMA AND ACCESS TO WEAPONS AND A FIRE BREATHING MONSTER WOULD ACT MATURE
As much as I like game Cheval, anime Cheval takes the cake for me. It's probably because the game had to start in media res because...you know. Game. But I love how anime Cheval slowly gets more unhinged as the show goes on it's beautiful, just. The golden gargwa egg episode. I absolutely LOVE how that shows a more negative side of him, something that becomes more prominent as the show continues and he begins to veer off into the path of iffy moral actions, just YES!!!!! YES!!!!!
Also you see the point in the anime where he reaches that "tipping point" where in the game you don't. That episode where he gets a nargacuga monstie after abandoning Rathi, only to leave it to LITERALLY DIE OF EXHAUSTION IN THE DESERT because it wasn't powerful enough for him...makes me so sad every time (I'm happy they reconcile in season 2 though!)
i hate mhs2 Cheval. He feels so off putting and wrong it feels like it's not him. You get me? Like it's something pretending to be him than actual Cheval. I love him anyways though. I can both love and hate him. Cheval is Cheval.
So many late-night thoughts for this man. I have a whole theory on how he was infected with the black blight I sent to a friend like 2/3 years back, maybe I'll post it on here one day. He means so much to me <3
Go to therapy Cheval <3
Tumblr media
Jotaro. He is so like me fr <3
I want to put him in a microwave. Not maniacally like with Joseph but I just wanna see him rotate. Such a man. He means so much to me like damn bro you like fishies? Sea? Damn bro you're beefy and look naturally aggressive? Damn do you mind if I exist in the same room as you
The fish thing is especially funny imo because to write him for Breadcrust Crusaders I had to know about marine life. I knew absolutely jack about marine life. So, like any normal person would, I borrowed not one, not two, but three absolutely massive encyclopedias on marine life. Two of them were specifically for sharks and whales. And I read all of them. And now I'm normal about marine life the same way I'm normal about Joseph Joestar. Thanks, Jotaro. The blorbo who fundamentally changed me as a person.
He has autism. I have decided to make this canon. Araki cannot stop me I will make this canon mark my words
He was kinda bland in part 3. Tbh. His PTSD makes his character spicier, as well as thethe. The. The divorce I fucking love divorce every character should aspire to be like Jotaro and divorce

Chris/Melissa + “ you're my home. “
Or, deprogramming is not a fun time for aaaaanyone. Usual post-6B 'verse, PG-ish, and also on ao3.
Let go. Begin again.
Having such control over his own life still feels wrong, even several years in. Before, there had always been cultural obligations and traditions, reinforced by a web of connections. Leaving had been unthinkable until it wasn’t, and it still feels like weakness, that later-in-life rebellion that still causes internal conflict. Hunters don’t have midlife crises; the more appropriate response to such tragedy, the one he still occasionally considers, would’ve been to take unnecessary risks and try to die before the improper thoughts led anywhere.
Instead, he decided to live. Instead, he gave himself a whole host of new mundane problems. Instead…
He knows, in the early months of new entanglement, that this could possibly just be a coping mechanism gone horribly wrong. Latch onto the first viable option, perhaps the only viable option there will ever be, and try to re-create everything salvageable from his past. And he knows, if this is accurate self-assessment, that it might be unspeakable cruelty. Melissa does not deserve to be a useful object in someone else’s self-destruction; from the stories he’s heard, indirect comments pieced into answers to questions he will never ask, she’s been through that already. To do that to her again, to become a wound…
She deserves better. May he never lose sight of that.
He tries to self-correct and fails. Never again so much as that entire summer without contact – it takes two people to ruin communication like that, yes, but he will carry most of the blame, he does not have scars like she does – but attempts at little distance, at making sure he doesn’t get proximity enough to do harm. None of it works. She offers space so easily. Who the hell is he to deny her? He is trying to atone for so many mistakes under other circumstances, and he has proven himself decent if not good, and-
It doesn’t help that she sees so much light in him. Others have had to forgive direct action, and he is unsure how much of that he has earned, but he never hurt her. He never… he couldn’t…
“Talk to me,” she says. It is late winter and later in the night than he should be around, but neither of them trusts quiet and taking her to and from work is something they can both justify outside the uncertainty of their dynamic. If that in turn results in him spending enough nights on her couch that she’s stopped offering the spare bedroom upstairs…
His instinct is to respond with worry and self-blame, but he runs through his recent actions towards her and finds nothing likely to offend her enough for confrontation. She is not always as clear as she could be, fine, but they are still new and learning each other and-
“Is everything alright?” That’s neutral enough, right? There are so many other things in her life that could be troubling her, he wouldn’t dare assume her moods could only be because of him or-
“And I thought I was conflict-avoidant,” she sighs. Her eyes are flitting around and her body isn’t quite still; something is wrong, something is-
“You’re not…” Oh, he doesn’t even know what she’s doing. This isn’t where-did-he-fuck-this-up anymore, although that emotion will probably never fade around her; it’s a bigger problem, it has to be, and probably not anything within his ability to fix, not that she’s good at asking for minor help either, at some point before they met that woman went right past resilient into trust issues and-
“Something is going on in your mind,” she says with that perceptiveness that fascinates him sometimes, that used to read as fearlessness before he got to know her better and realized she’s like this with everyone. “You’re not telling me something. And I can’t…”
So, he did do something. That’s strangely reassuring.
He lives with so many internal conflicts – can’t remember a time when his mind was ever quiet, when there wasn’t some kind of war he was usually smart enough to keep hidden – and too many are connecting now, becoming a web that could bury him if he let it, if he-
He could lay them all out for her, say all the things he suspects she’s figured out about what she’s gone and started trying to tether herself to, but he doubts that would actually help either of them. Too much of their dynamic is in the quiet, in the details not directly said to each other but instead indirectly filtered through so many mutual connections. To ruin that, to ruin them…
That’s the problem, maybe. The uncertainty of it all, of not having the slightest clue where they’re headed or what she wants. He’s never had that kind of problem before – he is used to so much more structure, and he suspects he would’ve tried to do the rest of his life alone if she hadn’t happened to him, and-
“I’m unsure… where this goes. You and I.”
She gives him one of those looks, some kind of affectionate frustration, and he can only imagine the odds she’s running in her mind. In a fair world, she’d have much more internal conflict about this than he does, but he can’t imagine-
“Does it need to go anywhere?”
Yes, he wants to say. Yes, because he likes stability and he hasn’t really had any in three years, because he is still used to being led and of course he went and got tangled up with someone who doesn’t have that tendency and-
“Some kind of structure would help me,” and even that sounds wrong, admitting weakness even to a partner, but it is necessary pain and-
“Okay. Structure. I can do that. What do you…”
“You’re my home.” The words fall out too quickly, and they’re wrong, and the idea that he might be discovering at this point in his life that he is somehow something of a romantic is damned horrifying, and… maybe this is the final act of walking away, not just choosing to continue his own life but shaping it around another person, because he was so good at that once and he could be again and-
This is different than that past. It has to be different. It has to be better.
“Oh.”
“I don’t… if you…”
“That’s not… I’m not mad, I just… how do I respond to that?!”
He’s hurt her, it’s all too obvious, and the only response he can think of is to clear the distance between them and hold her, and they’re such a cliché right now, clinging in the middle of her kitchen at something too-close to two in the morning and it’s the most real he’s felt in too long and he’d fall to his knees for her if he thought it’d help and-
“You don’t need to,” he murmurs, turning his head to kiss above her ear. “I shouldn’t have said that.”
“You regret things too easily,” she replies, and every doubt falls away. “I would say if that was a problem. It isn’t. I just… need time.”
“If I’ve done anything…”
“I’m not scared of you. If you fucked up, you’d know.”
“I don’t deserve you.”
“Don’t talk like that.”
She takes kisses to make sure he doesn’t get for quite a long time.
He… could be okay with this.
Somewhere in the blur of anniversaries that will haunt him over the next few weeks, something made him decide to live. It’s been three years. Time to do something with that beyond just survival and latching onto anything that will tolerate him.
Time to make this into a life.
Maybe, just maybe, start with her and go from there.
