Heroes, Villains, and Blorbos
Being a fan of both Snape and the Marauders is fun, in that -- okay that's a lie, it's not fun really. So few people I know actually like both sides. Most people I know pick a side and stick with it.
Why is that? I figure it's one, or both, of two things. One: each side attracts a certain sort of person that will naturally disdain the other side. Two: by loving one, you must hate their enemies.
Love makes us blind, though, doesn't it? We defend our faves to the bitter end. That's a bit harder to manage when what I love about all of these characters are...well...their faults.
The Marauders
Their story is quite admirable, isn't it? It's fun! Four very close, loyal friends. Friends who go to great lengths for one another, and go on grand adventures together.
At the helm: two privileged boys. James and Sirius were born with pure blood and wealth. James, the only son of two older parents. Sirius, the heir of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black. Both handsome and charming. Both big, bold personalities.
Then Remus, of course. Their quiet, patient, studious housemate turned friend. And Peter, accused of gravitating to those bigger and stronger than himself. But that's a bit unfair, I think. Peter had something to offer; something that drew him to, and kept him with the Marauders.
You have the full range in the Marauders. The "too cool for school" Sirius. James, the Quidditch star (and eventual Head Boy!) Remus the responsible prefect. Peter, the sweetheart (he did seem rather sweet in those earlier days.)
More than that: they were highly intelligent and skilled. They deduced Remus' secret. They sneaked out and explored. They created the Marauder's Map! Not only a feat of magic, but requiring knowledge of cartography and knowledge of the grounds! They cared for their friend enough to become Animagi -- advanced magic they were self-taught in and accomplished without anyone being the wiser for it!
Competency is sexy, okay? Of course people are drawn to the Marauders!
There is so much good in them. Their capacity for friendship and loyalty. How driven they are by their values. All they worked for just to help Remus through full moons. James opening his home to Sirius when he needed to escape his family. They kept each other's secrets. They relied on one another.
It was this sense of goodness, I think, that drove them to such heinous acts. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.
Sirius, disillusioned by his family, standing against all they stood for. James, of the Main Character Syndrome, and a desire to play hero. They were all sorted into Gryffindor, sharing values of bravery and chivalry. They would go on to join the Order of the Phoenix and fight in the war effort right after graduating. Setting aside Peter (with his unknown background and motivations; not knowing when or why he turned on his friends), they all had a sense of their morals and a willingness to abide by them. They all had a sense of right and wrong.
But think: for all of their goodness, they were troublemakers and lawbreakers. They were above the rules. Due to ego and entitlement in some ways (especially for our privileged James and Sirius), but also a sense of righteousness. They were young boys chasing adventure and playing hero. They were unregistered Animagi, remember: but for a good cause!
They were also bullies.
For a good cause, of course! Snievellus deserved it. A strange, intense boy. A Slytherin. For knowing more curses in his first year than most seventh years. (For knowing; not using.) For existing.
"They were just kids"; it's not an excuse, but a place to begin to understand. They were young. They were ignorant and immature. People also fear what they don't understand. This is why people who are "different" are so often "othered" and mistreated.
A hostile first interaction, on all sides, and they painted Severus as a "villain." And it's up to heroes to bring down villains, isn't it?
One hostile, first meeting and James tried to trip Severus. One interaction and he was already resorting to physical harm. And the trend would continue. Public humiliation, sexual assault, and a near death experience. Four wizards routinely targeting and tormenting one.
They were arrogant, cruel, and judgmental (primarily James and Sirius), or passive and enabling (more Remus and Peter.)
Their behavior was reprehensible and inexcusable.
The Half-Blood Prince
Of course, Severus Snape was no angel himself.
Like the Marauders, Severus was intelligent, skilled, and accomplished. Unlike them, Severus wasn't privileged. He was a half-blood. He was raised in poverty; raised in neglect and abuse. He wasn't blessed with good looks or charm. He was bitter, odd, obsessive.
He was a wizard trapped in a dingy, Muggle town, raised by a magic-hating Muggle of a father. Petunia called him "that awful Snape boy."
Lily was the first spot of brightness in his life. His first connection to magic, and kindness. When it was time for them to attend Hogwarts, life was meant to improve. He was going to be with Lily; he was going to escape.
Instead Severus walked out of one trauma, and right into another.
Separated from his best friend. Targeted from day one. Overlooked in favor for his more likeable and attractive peers. He was brilliant, and dedicated, and ambitious. He worked hard. He did great things. He improved potions and invented spells.
Control and power would appeal to people like Severus. People who have never had either. People who have been crushed beneath the boots of people in control, and in power.
When he nearly walked into his death, there was no real consequences for his attackers. And he was forced into silence.
Of course Severus was bitter. And of course he was tempted.
Severus went down the wrong path. And he befriended the wrong people. He invented a heinous curse. He used a slur against his best friend. There is no excuse for Severus. No reason to forgive his sins. But we can understand them, can't we? We can understand what might drive a person to such extremes, such horrors.
Changed Men
These were young people growing up in the time of war. And the moment they were able, they chose their sides.
Peter is the most interesting case to explore. What drove him to betraying his friends? When did he decide this? Was he always a rat? Or did time in his friends' shadows twist him? Was it a big event that turned him?
Sirius would lose his best friend and be falsely imprisoned. He managed to escape the inescapable Azkaban, driven by the need to protect Harry. He opened his home to the Order. He was open to doing more; he felt compelled to offer more than anyone would take. Sirius was troubled, of course, traumatized not only by loss of loved ones, but the loss of his freedom. Exposed to Dementors for years and years. He never had the chance to really grow up. But he remained strong, and dedicated. He remained clever, and strong, and willing to fight.
Remus faced many hardships through his life. He lost all of his friends in one fell swoop. The love and support he'd been blessed with, now gone. Trudging through life in a world that judged and feared him. He kept going with grace and compassion, in spite of all he endured. He was patient and wise. He was a supportive teacher. He was also careless, and put many lives at risk by not taking his potion. He nearly abandoned his wife and unborn child. Remus was a great, but imperfect man.
James learned and grew bit by bit. He matured. He put in the effort to be a better person. He saved Severus' life. He pranked and bullied less often. He became Head Boy. He saw enough growth to earn that title, despite his troubled past, and despite not making prefect. He saw enough growth that Lily saw him in a new light. And at the tender age of twenty-one he lost his life to protect his wife and son.
Severus had the biggest task of all. He (likely) committed atrocities as a Death Eater. But when he realized how wrong he had been, he was strong enough to change. Too few people own up to their mistakes and are willing to change. Severus had to face how truly horrendous his choices had been. He had to change his whole belief system. And, again, so young, he put his life at risk by entering Dumbledore's service and turning spy on Voldemort. He remained in a job he hated for years and years. And when Voldemort returned, Severus returned to his terrible duty. Was he a nice man? No. But he was brave. He was strong. He worked hard to atone for his mistakes. He was forever haunted by the horrors of his life. And he died, unappreciated and unrecognized for all he had done.
None of them were perfect. All of them had potential.
So much of their promise died in the war. They were all so damn young, and so deeply impacted. They all made grave mistakes. They all achieved great feats.
But what draws me to them all above all else is the horrible humanity of them. All of their virtues, and especially all of their flaws.

we don't talk enough about the girls in 1st to 4th year. Like we got all those hcs for the guys, but i want he girlies to have cutesy hcs to so:
Lily: Friends with Snape, ofc, but hated pretty much every boy except for him. She'd barely get along with Remus, let alone James, and that was it. Hung out a LOT with Marlene in 1st to 3rd year, and got closer to Mary more around 2nd year, they became a trio at the beginning of 3rd year and became inseparable. Lily was pretty quiet in class, but would be absolutely wild when it came to grades. First in all of her classes, and would compete with anyone else who even tried to catch that title from her. Very competitive, and get closer with Remus at the end of third year after they had a huge competition over who'd be at the top of their DADA class.
Marlene: an absolute beast. Energetic, would either love you or despise you, friends with pretty much every Gryffondor (despised Sirius in 2nd year because of something he'd said to Lily, and James from in 4th year because the flirting was rly getting to Lily, the hatred ended at the end of 4th year when he got absolutely destroyed by Lily and stopped flirting with her obsessively, and apologized profusely) LOVED Peter and would always hang out with him, would be an absolute MENACE in Quidditch, she was a batter along Sirius and no one could convince me otherwise, average in grades but would suck at potions, Lily started pairing up with her to help, which was one of the first things she did against Snape. She could also throw a mean punch, even when she was 13.
Mary: absolute sweetheart in 1st to 2nd year, became more like Marlene in 3rd and 4th. hung out a lot with Sirius in 1st year (when he wasn't with the marauders) and Alice in 2nd, she was a sweetheart and would be nice to everyone, smart and overall an average kid. Then she befriended the other girls and oh. She was wild. 3rd and 4th year, she pranked everyone, caused a mess everywhere she went and managed to always blame it on the marauders, and would show it when she hated you (which she probably did, especially if your name was James Potter or Severus Snape) Her grades, surprisingly, went up and she became a top student pretty quickly
Dorcas: the quiet but not to mess with girl. Immediately befriended Pandora and Regulus in 1st year, and basically didn't talk to anyone else. She got picked on a bit in 1st year, then in the beginning of second she dragged a boy that slapped her ass out of the castle, and he came back the next morning with blood everywhere on his face, hexed and unable to remember what happened, Dorcas just sipping on her morning tea as the Slytherin table went in flames at his return. It was never traced back to her, and no one messed with her afterwards. Was an absolute sweetheart towards Pandora, they were best friends, met Evan in 2nd year and warmed up to him pretty quickly. She had a little rivalry moment with Regulus when they get in the Quidditch team, but they actually became friends easily and treated him like a little brother (the big sibling Sirius couldn't be, snif) Barty and her spent so much time hating each other, just to realize their entire feud was ridiculous and become best friends the next day
Pandora: An absolute NERD. And by that, i mean that if Evan was the one to avoid all the classes their parents taught them when they were kids, Pandora would be the kid to ask all the uncomfortable questions and destroy your logic in a few seconds with your own reasoning. Never get into an argument with her. She'd always be either at the library, or in a common room. Befriended Regulus immediately and only hung out with him for 6 months, made up an entire language for them to speak in between each other, made bracelets Regulus would hide under his sleeve but always wear, ect. Met Dorcas and hit it off relatively quick, their early friendship more like a black cat and white cat, where they just supported each other and hung out constantly.

Marauders British Bake Off Au.
-Dumbledore and Mcgonagall are the judges.
-Dumbledore wears weird clothing with odd combinations of pieces
-he silently judges the contestants choices of techniques or flavors, but offers smiles when he's pleased
-Mcgonagall is more like Paul and not as easy to please
-her technicals are a lot more difficult but not impossible.
-None of the marauders knew each other before the show, but they got on pretty well.
-They make jokes often and playfully criticize each other's methods or flavors.
-Black is very good at chocolate work and he makes rather extravagant flavors that you don't think would work but do (not always though. Sometimes he does a bit too much)
-his pipping is actually very neat, but he gets easily distracted by whatever the rest of the marauders are doing
-hes had a few problems before with his cakes, but he's the first one to get a handshake from Mcgonagall and he rubs it in everyone's faces
-during the judging period of the technical he either tries to joke with James or walk around in circles from nerves
-james is straight rubbish at tarts and some pastries
-his scones and breads are absolutely lovely however
-he gets a bit quiet when things get tough and doesn't take to coming in last very well
-he often jokes with Sirius, but he sometimes makes his way to Lily's station when he can to flirt
-but whenever his mates need an extra hand at toppings or layering heavy cakes, he's always the first one to offer help
-Remus is pretty decent at chocolate work as well and has unique flavors once in a while
-but he typically sticks to more traditional and simple flavors which he's often told to work better at since he plays it a little too safe
-he then starts to work with coffee and tea like flavors which he receives good compliments
-his things are baked just, but his measurements are a bit disporting which has led him in last or close to last a couple of times
-he was one of the few that people thought would be sent home, but he saved himself in the last minute with his chocolate souffle
-he does rise up as an underdog and wins star baker twice
-Lily and Severus also bond since their stations are close to each other. They also learn that they live near each other and have tea and coffee off the show
-Lily is a very good baker on her own, but sometimes she sneaks glances behind her to see what Severus is doing
-Her baking comes out very good, but sometimes it lacks flavor
-her decorating is very creative and beautifully done
-she takes the criticism well but also very personally. She spends a lot of time at home practicing and reading new recipes and techniques to become better prepared
-it eventually pays off and she meets the semifinals with her family's recipes of jams and cakes
-she often gets a bit annoyed at James but it's mostly in jest unless she's freaking out from the pressure
-Severus is more precise with his measurements and he rarely has a problem with his baking
-hes the most experience baker which is surprising since he doesn't look like he would be
-he still a chemistry teacher and his students are actually cheering him on during the week which surprises him
-he often says his students will never let him live it down if he loses so he works hard for himself and for spite
-his decorating could use some work, but he does well with fruit decorating since he's very good with a knife
-he doesn't do much sweet baking and tends to do more savoury and rustic flavors with herbs from his personal garden
-his flavors a very good and can sometime seem like they wouldn't work like Black's, but they're a bit more reasonable and simple
-however he's done well with more delicate bits, and his macarons are just perfect
- he does some practice at home but with lessons and grading, he doesn't have as much time as he likes.
-he is almost sent home when his fruit tart wasn't set correctly and it became a bit raw at the crust
-he distance himself from others most of the time since he doesn't like distraction besides Lily and occasionally Remus
-but during the judging he walks around towards the gardens to calm himself

Why I don't trust people who hate Snape?
So I got the idea to write this post this morning when I saw another tweet that James and Snape just fighted each other and James wasn’t actually a bully. And I really wouldn't care, because I didn't follow this profile, but here's a person I respect and she liked a few tweets (not related to Snape) from this author. To be honest, I've been looking all the time to see if this person would follow this author or would like this tweet. But no, thanks for that too. For now. I looked through some more of this author's tweets about Snape and was just shocked. All arguments about Snape are simply untrue or have been refuted in the books themselves. If that person I respect somehow showed her dislike for Snape just because he “bullied”James too or something like that, I would just unfollow her. But this post is not really about that. This post is also about the fact that it is genuinely strange for me to observe how "tolerant" people hate Snape for the reasons why their hate can be called lookism and classism. Once a similar situation has happened to me when I simply did not expect a knife in my back. I followed a non-binary person on twitter who was into psychoactivism and was an intersectional feminist and also a socialist. There really were no red flags. I liked all of his tweets and I agreed with almost everything he wrote. Even if not, it was a minor disagreement. Then he simply wrote that Snape was obsessed incel and was stalking Lily. Thanks. Unfollow.
It's not even my personal love for Snape, but the fact that I sincerely doubt the competence of a person who hates or at least ascribes completely unusual traits and behavior. I very much doubt that a person is leftist and against lookism, when he calls Snape a terrible incel, who deserved bulling, and in general IT WAS A MUTUAL ENEMY TROP WHY YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS!!!!!!!! A person who loves marauders in itself already repulses, since their "jokes" are far from innocent and not harmless, and in James's behavior we see open sexism, lookism and classism. Even Sirius, because of his hate for Snape, calmly set up a werewolf-friend who would be imprisoned in Azkaban for at least life for killing a teenager and hiding the fact that he was a werewolf, thereby endangering children. Well, is it tolerant enough? Well, you like James and Sirius, your business, no one forbids you. But to justify the disgusting behavior of people who have never been discriminated in their life and had a bunch of privileges and simply bullied everyone in a row for their existence, at least does not make you fighters against discrimination.
Snape's teaching is a separate topic altogether. At Hogwarts, 90% of teachers are incapable of teaching and have done far worse things, and I don't even take Barty Crouch Jr. and Quirrell as examples. But it was Snape's fault anyway. It is a direct proof that our society is not ready for anything, even a "tolerant" one. It's a pity that this is happening, and not only do I have to check for a thousand years whether the person I follow on the Internet is TERF, SWERF, antifem, ablist, homophobic, right-wing, etc. And also whether he hates Snape because Snape includes a lot of discrimination, while James does not.
I have never asked to share my posts, but now I am asking about it, I would like as many people as possible to see it and, perhaps, do their own conclusions.
P.S. I do not forbid not to love Snape, this is your own business. But I forbid actively promoting discrimination and dishonest ideas, as well as false facts about Snape. If your fave is problematic, it is completely unnecessary to bleaching your fave by insulting another character in situations where it is not his fault.

Tumblr media
You were all the talk around Hogwarts for the last several weeks. You were the topic of all the curious chatter amongst students and professors alike. Your arrival was highly anticipated, and looked forward to. You were filling in for Professor Sprout for the next few months who was recovering from an ankle injury. She had simply tripped and sprained her ankle while working out in the greenhouse, and Pomfrey found it best for her to lay low for a few weeks.
Pomona Sprout wasn’t one to assign her duties to just anyone. She was head of the Hufflepuffs and Herbology, both of which she took very seriously. Headmaster Dumbledore had given her the liberty of choosing herself a substitute, which is why she was so keen on choosing someone who was highly competent.
Pomona had been a family friend for years, and always adored the way you were so passionate for Herbology. She had thoroughly enjoyed your time at Hogwarts, and would even admit she shed many tears after your graduation. It was a no brainer to ask you to take over her job for a while. Within a week, you were prepared and ready to go.  Pomona had told you what to expect while you were there.
You had been quite the star in your years at Hogwarts, you had definitely made a name for yourself and were still talked about to this day.
So she told you that the current students would be stoked to see you in person and ask you questions about your glory days at Hogwarts. She told you to feel free to use any of the professor amenities and take advantage of your time there. For all you knew, you might be offered a job by the end of it. You were a little nervous at first, but after the first day, you knew it was going to be a blast.
Students of all ages and Houses crowded you the moment you entered the castle, throwing out questions and praises all over the place. You tried your hardest to answer each of them as best you could, happily overwhelmed at their excitement. Dumbledore shooed them away, assuring them that’d they’d have plenty of time to ask their burning questions.
Dinnertime was probably your favorite time of your first day. It felt so strange to sit at the professor’s table that you had looked at for so many years. It felt even weirder to be sitting with professors that were now your peers rather than authority figures. You remembered each of them vividly and their classes.
You remembered Charms with Flitwick and the first time you learned a spell. You recalled Potions with Snape and how you never dared to break eye contact when he was speaking. You laughed at the memory of Transfiguration with McGonagall and how you accidentally turned your best friend into a slug one time. You had many fond memories of all the professors at the table.
All except for one.
There was one unfamiliar face that you couldn’t seem to identify. He had reddish-brown hair, a few scars on his face, as well as light facial hair. He looked fairly young in comparison to the other Hogwarts’ instructors, and based on the way Professor Snape had glared at him when he walked in, you were sure he was a Gryffindor. He was seated to your immediate right, and had offered you a kind smile when you arrived.
“You must be [Y/N].” Lupin said, extending his hand.
You took his hand to shake it, smiling back at him.
“I am. However, I’m afraid I don’t know you.” You said, thinking you had never seen him before.
He brushed it off with a light laugh. He wasn’t surprised that you didn’t remember him.
“I wasn’t a professor during your time here,” He replied with a certain glow on his cheeks; “Remus Lupin.” He introduced.
You felt relief. That would’ve been embarrassing if you had forgotten a professor. It hadn’t been THAT long since you had been through Hogwarts. Despite the fact that he didn’t look familiar, the name rang a bell.
“Lupin...oh!” You said, suddenly remembering how you knew him; “You graduated two years ahead of me. You were friends with James Potter and Sirius Black! There was a third one with you guys too..Peter something.”
Remus snorted at that. Peter was always the odd man out.
“Pettigrew.” Remus corrected.
You sighed in realization.
“Right. I suppose it’s been longer since I’ve been here than I thought.” You said, feeling a little embarrassed that you didn’t automatically recognize him; “Are you teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts?”
He nodded.
Everyone knew Potter, Lupin, Pettigrew, and Black during their time here. It was a shame what had happened to James Potter and his wife. You had spotted their son earlier that day. Harry was exactly what you expected through stories you had heard.
He was a spitting image of James and he had Lily’s eyes.
You wondered what Pettigrew and Black were up to these days, but Remus moved on before you could ask.
“Our paths never quite crossed. It’s a shame. I would’ve loved to have known you better back then.” He said, taking his goblet into his hand.
You felt a heat creep over your cheeks. It was true. You were your own version of popular and you were always so busy that you never quite had the opportunity to hang out with Remus and his friends. You always had a feeling that you’d fit in well though.
One thing was for sure, Remus was still just as handsome as he was then.
“Well, consider this making up for lost time.” You responded, reaching for your own cup.
He raised a brow with an amused grin. He spoke clearly before clinking his cup against yours.
“For lost time.”
After that, a friendship began to blossom between you and Remus Lupin. You would visit him in his office after classes or stop to chat when you passed in the halls. He quickly realized why you were just so popular when you were a student there.
You were such a joy to talk to.
“Good morning, [Y/N].” Remus said, entering Professor Sprout’s (which for the time being was yours) office.
You looked up from your course schedule, smiling as he entered.
“Hi, Remus. Here so early?” You glanced at the clock, noting that it wasn’t even 8:00 AM yet.
“I’ve always been an early riser.” He stated. He motioned towards the seat in front of the desk; “May I?”
“Of course, of course.” You granted.
He took a seat and you set your class planning aside for now. You’d much rather speak with him.
“How are your classes going this week?” You queried.
Remus grinned at that.
“As well as they could I guess,” He said; “The kids are still ecstatic about your presence here. It’s hard to get them to focus on much else.”
You sheepishly laughed. You didn’t mind, but you had been bombarded with students over the last few weeks.
“I didn’t know I had made such a lasting impact.” You admitted.
He agreed that you definitely had. You were strikingly beautiful, he could barely keep his gaze off of you. Even if you hadn’t been close during your time at Hogwarts, he had always had a bit of a crush on you. Now you were here and he still found himself giddy with glee that he was talking to you.
It was so strange how life often came full circle.
“That color really brings out your eyes.” He complimented.
You looked down at the sweater you were wearing. You had thought nothing of it when you had gotten dressed earlier.
“Does it?”
“Mmhm. Positively stunning.” He graced.
You felt yet another burn in your face. Had he always been this charming?
“Thank you, Remus. I appreciate it.” You smiled bashfully.
He looked around Sprout’s office. There were plants of all kinds on every wall, which wasn’t surprising in the least.
“So, tell me. How did such a gorgeous woman end up teaching at Hogwarts?” He wondered.
You cocked your head to the side at his confidence and how smoothly he had said it. You thought for a second. Was he flirting with you? Remus Lupin, one of the Gryffindor House’s most infamous members, hitting on you? You were flattered, but two could play at that game.
“I could ask you the same. I was surprised that The Marauders’ very own boy toy ended up here again.” You returned with a sly smirk.
Remus’ face went bright red. His heartbeat quickened and he found himself nervous. He didn’t expect you to come back like that.
“I, uh...well, not me certainly. Sirius was always much more...flirtatious than I am.” He said fiddling with his hands.
You raised a brow, knowingness clear in your expression.
“Is that so? That’s odd. I always thought you were the best looking of the four.” You said rather seductively.
Remus let out a bashful laugh. His face was so hot now that he was sure he was sweating.
“Ah, well, you’re very kind. I-I’m not so sure. Harry always- I mean, James always drew much more attention than Peter and me.” He confessed.
“Really? That’s surprising.” You added.
Remus paused and let out more of a giggle now, like an awkward teen trying to ask his admirers to the Yule Ball. He stood from his chair.
“You’re lovely- ah, it’s been lovely talking to you, [Y/N], as always,” He said going to leave; “I hope to see you at dinner later.”
“Yes, I’ll see you.” You said, holding back a round of laughter.
Remus basically ran out, humiliated, yet entertained at how he choked. He didn’t expect you to be so forward. But he knew he liked it. As much as he adored Professor Sprout;
He hoped she wasn’t coming back anytime soon

rough series overview
a month of polling later, here we are! these are the (very rough) summaries for what each book in the marauders series will look like. not so much plot outlines as general ideas of what we’ll be seeing, but work on the first book will be commencing soon!
Book One: James Potter and the ______ Officially, the First Wizarding War had begun the year previously. The pre-established notion that Hogwarts is one of the safest places in the world as well as the assurances of Dumbledore gives parents the confidence to send their children there, even as Voldemort’s attacks grew and spread. First-years James Potter and Sirius Black meet on the Hogwarts Express, sharing a compartment with Lily Evans and Severus Snape. After the Sorting, Remus and Peter join James and Sirius as friends, with Remus hiding his condition as a werewolf.
Book Two: Lily Evans and the _______ Returning for their second year at Hogwarts, the Marauders begin to grow in popularity. James initially gains attention for joining the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a Chaser. His constant sass towards older players and undeniable talent earn him a reputation, one that easily expands as Sirius enthusiastically overperforms Gryffindor spirit. Unfortunately, not everyone is a fan; Lily Evans, the one student whose intelligence might be a match for all four friends combined, would rather ignore the boisterous boys. She’s escaping a world where her sister calls her a freak and no one knows how much she’s really capable of. At Hogwarts, she’s not that weird or different from everyone else, even if her blood status sometimes leads to unwelcome comments on her abilities.
Book Three: Remus Lupin and the ________ After receiving a shocking message from someone within Hogwarts who seems to know exactly what he is, Remus Lupin heads with great trepidation into his third year. The older he gets, the stronger the beast within him becomes. It’s getting harder to hide this monstrous nature from his friends, as James, Sirius, and Peter aren’t as oblivious or dismissive as they used to be. Somehow, the impossibly bright friend he’s gained in Lily Evans is the only one not questioning his odd excuses or strange ticks around the full moon. Her easy acceptance can’t be entirely trusted though, as the events of last year have left Lily bitter towards his friends. If she’s the one who knows of his dark secret, perhaps he hasn’t truly gained another friend after all.
Book Four: Severus Snape and the __________ It’s 1974, and amid the terror of Voldemort and his Death Eaters, the highly-anticipated Quidditch World Cup takes place. That year at Hogwarts, the focus of the year is the Potions Championship.  Lily Evans, already an accomplished Potions student, is encouraged to compete by Professor Slughorn. Despite being underage for the competition, Dumbledore leverages her Muggleborn status to convince the international officials in charge of the Championship to allow her in. Throughout the year, she works closely with Professor Slughorn and other accomplished potioneers to train and expand her knowledge. Severus is eager to see her win, but their ideas of victory clash as Lily rejects his more questionable methods of helping her. Meanwhile, Severus grapples with the state of the Wizarding World and Voldemort’s war. His friendship with Lily and hatred for his life in the Muggle world are at odds, as students begin to take different sides of the War. During the Sorting, he is shocked to hear his mother’s maiden name. As he grows closer to the Princes and learns more of the life he could’ve had in a pureblood family, decisions fall into place that will shape his future forever. The deep dichotomy of Slytherin and Gryffindor views takes center stage throughout this book, as Severus cannot understand Lily’s perspective and time begins to run out for him to decide where his loyalties truly lie.
Book Five: Sirius Black and the __________ It’s been six years since Voldemort launched his terrifying agenda, and the Blacks have become ever more confident in their secure position of power in his new world. Fifteen-year-old Sirius can only wrestle so much freedom from their strict structure, but his path is beginning to narrow. The Blacks’ patience with their firstborn son’s “rebellious phase” is wearing thin, and a rigorous preparation for the future they have decided for him snaps into action when Sirius pushes his boundaries one step too far. As his relationship with Regulus and his own desires for his future are cast onto uncertain ground, Sirius finds that his life at Hogwarts, which once seemed a sanctuary from the Blacks, is not entirely immune to their influence. After his attempts to become an Animagus finally succeed, he begins to grow closer with a certain sweater-wearing Gryffindor. Now more than ever, he’s been drawing closer to his friends, but Remus’s attention takes on a new light. Darkness dogs them both these days, and despite brave words and Gryffindorian promises, it’s unknown if either could ever truly protect the other from their grim realities.
Book Six: Peter Pettigrew and the ________ There have never been more reasons to be afraid. As the sixth year at Hogwarts plays out amid a world divided by war, the “pranks” that the Slytherins play have turned darker. James’s retaliation is becoming even worse. Hogwarts might be the safest place in the world right now, untouched by the Death Eaters, but there are students prowling about that might well already be inducted into Voldemort’s ranks. Peter clings to the safety of the Marauders. They all cling to it really, Remus and Sirius and James. There’s a certain protection that has come with the little family they’ve formed; Peter isn’t the only one who sees it. Sirius has finally broken away from the Blacks, choosing to fight valiantly for his friends and the beliefs they hold. Remus’s “eccentricities” aren’t questioned with the Marauders around, playing it off as a joke or helping him to hide it. Even James, the lion leading the charge, leans on all of them when the eyes of the world have turned away.
Book Seven: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs Finally, the seventh-years will be coming-of-age. For the Marauders and Lily, that means finally becoming eligible to join the Order of the Phoenix. But becoming directly involved in the plans against Voldemort and his followers is not what anyone expected, and there are still N.E.W.T.s to sit and career choices to  finalize. Some questions are easy- what classes to take, who to protect. Others are harder- who to trust, who to fall for, who to hate. In a world where friends might be Imperioed and enemies might only be on the wrong side out of fear, the Marauders must decide if their lives are to be built for what they want or what would be best for the world they’re fighting for. The Order and the Death Eaters alike ask that their members live and die for their cause, but not everyone is prepared to make that sacrifice. The ideas of trust and selfishness vs. selflessness will be extremely prominent for this book. We all know how the story ends, who dies and who betrays, who understands and who will never know. But how Peter chose his destiny and what Sirius was truly loyal to, what life Remus thought he’d live and the ambitions James carried with him- finally, the foundations of the first six books are solidified. Finally, the adults Harry knew (and the ones he didn’t) have grown up. Finally, the Marauders and their friends have joined the War- and wizarding history will never be the same.

Lily fell first
Sometimes i like to think Lily liked James first.
Ao3 link yk bc i have to
Cw; a bit of swearing
First or second year;
She should of hated him, she knew that. They were compete opposites
She was a the nerdy redheaded girl with only 1 friend, she was a traitor to her house because her only friend was a slytherin, she was a muggle born and didn't know anything about The wizard world, and her family was working class.
While he was popolar and cool and rich, he wore the house colors on his cheeks while she often times wished she was in slytherin, everyone seemed to like him, of course they did cause he was so very sweet, and he was a pureblood and apperently everyone in the wizarding world knew his family, and he loved quidditch, she could barely get a broom off The ground.
Severus hated him, James hated Sev. She should hate James Potter just based on that fact alone, but he was never mean to anyone else. And when he flashed his Smile or when he sent a wink her way and she felt butterflies erupt in her stomach. Stupid James Potter with his perfect teeth
In third year it stopped being her stupid little crush. Now it was just embarrasing.
The first time he *tried* to flirt with her, her stomach did backflips and she could feel her cheeks glow red. But then soon it stopped being fun as he continued. The stupid flirting was now everything from compliments to pickup lines to asking for a date to hogsmeade. She'd never felt so embarassed esecially when his stupid friends stood behind him trying not to laugh, or when Severus was beside her and she could feel his anger bubblig up. Her stupid crush was suppost to be her little secret but now. He most of known.
"Lily, do you want to go to hogsmeade with me tomorrow?" James Potter stood before her. This time his friends was not to be seen, and The rest of her classmates was slipping away until it was just the two of them in the hallway. They'd just come from a charms lesson.
"Potter it's not funny anymore okay, you can stop i get it, you know about that but stop"
"Lily what do you men 'about that?'"
"Oh very funny Potter really, don't think i'm gonna say it for your entretainment let's just move on, it's not funny"
"Lily i geniuently don't know what you're talking about, i'm not asking you to hogsmeade as a joke im geniuently asking you"
Yeah sure, she thought. As if Someone like James Potter would like someone like her
"Shove off Potter"
Lily Evans did not hate James Potter. She just hated that he kept tormenting her about her old Crush.
In fourth year he stops asking her out and she feels Great. No more of his joking around no more, no more embarassment. No more feeling guilty whenever she catches herself staring at the boy for a second too long. Finally her crush can be left alone.
That's until fifth year starts. And it starts all over again, The flirting the asking for dates. But she's older now, she doesn't feel the need to be nice to him like she did when she was 13. She's 15 now, and she tells him to fuck off, and she tells him to his face she'd rather marry the squid in the lake. She even starts dating someone else. Yeah fuck you James Potter for being an asshole fuck you for breaking my young heart.
But then sixth year rolls around and so much is happening at once, Suddenly she's friends with not only James but all of the marauders. Slowly she starts to think that maybe James hadn't been taunting her those years. He's so nice and perfect and how would those eyes ever be able to be mean. She's 17 and she asks him about their earlier years.
"James?" It's only the two of them in the common room
"Yeah?" He sitting on the ground in front of the sofa she's sitting on, leaning his back against it.
"Why did start asking me out in third year?" He turned his head to look at her. This was a dangerous subject. To close to all secrets
"What do you mean? Why do you think i started asking you out?" James asks looking at her so sincerly she feels like she might break under his stare
"It came so sudden i thought you had found out about- well i don't know" Her cheeks was red, she didn't dare looking down at James but she knew he was staring at her.
"You though i knew what? -" When he doesn't get a respond and her eyes won't even look down at him he sighs before he continues
"I'm not sure Lily i just, i guess i just looked at you and realised you- well you were so goddamn cool, and you didn't care what anyone said about you and you were beautiful nontheless. So you know thirteen year old James thought he'd have a chance," He was smiling now looking far away", And well me having Sirius Black as a friend didn't help you anything after you rejected me. He said i just had to keep trying because, and I qoute ,,You're the sexiest mf i've ever laid my eyes on Jamie boy and if she can say no to you then she's the problem,, he gave me a weird hug afterwards. Then you said no again and well they all decided my crush on you was their favourite thing to bully me on" He had a nostalic smile on his lips again. She wanted to kiss it.
"I ehm, i thought you were making fun of me"
"Making fun of you? Why" His eyebrows were scrunched together
"Well i had been having this huge crush on you since first year," Lily was pretty sure she heard James breathing in sharply, she could of been wrong though based on all blood running through her ears. ", and then you just out of nowhere started giving me compliments and a random tuesday morning you asked me out, and I had to say no because Snape was right beside me. But then you never stopped and I just assumed you knew and were making fun of me" She looked down embarassed. She already regretted her choices.
"You liked me?" He looked baffelled
"Well yeah" They looked at each other before James started laughing.
"I can't believe you thought i was making fun of you" He threw his head back into the sofa. She started laughing too
"Well yeah you were this cool looking boy with your friends Who all laughed everytime you asked me out and I was just nerdy little me"
"They laughed at me because i kept getting rejected" He quite down
"We're idiots" She said before they burst out laughing again
God if his laugh wasn't the most beautiful thing she'd ever heard
"Yeah we are" His eyes had a glint of mischief in them and she couldn't help but wonder why
"When did you stop liking me James?" Suddenly his features got overtaken with panic
"well i ehm... Lils" His voice was quiet and unceartain.
"James?" He looked down embarrased.
Her heart was Hammering inside her chest. This was dangerous.
"James" For probably the first time ever his head didn't turn around at the sound of her voice. She lerned forward so her head was on the same level as his hos. She let her hand rest on his jaw
"James" This time his head turned. His eyes was soft, his cheeks was flustered and his lips slightly parted. She learned forward to greet his lips. He took in another sharo breath. Their lips met and the world exploded into fireworks. Oh how her eleven year old self, who had been staring at James for a whole 30 seconds before answering his greeting when he walked into her train compartment, would be jealous of her now. Just you wait eleven year old Lily, in six years you'll get to kiss him. And it will be nothing like you Imagined. Becasue kissing James Potter is everything she'd ever dream of but it's also like nothing she's Imagined. His lips are soft like she Imagined, he's *trying* to cup he jaw. He's still sitting on the ground so he has to turn his arms around to reaach her. Kissing James Potter is also not at all like in her imagination. In her imagination his kisses are nothing of the ordinary. He kisses just like her exes, she knows nothing else. But kissing James Potter is everything but ordinary.
"Lily-Lils-Evans" He pulled away from her and she's quickly taken by panic
"Oh my god i'm sorry James I didn't think-i thought you-" she was rambling
"What? OH No. No no Lily i just, well i was sitting on the ground and I don't know you felt so far away i kinda just wanted to sat myself on the couch you know if we're gonna kiss... Did i make it akward now?" He gave an akward Smile and ran a hand through his hair. Typical James behaviour. He'd managed to sat himself on the sofa.
"Idiot" The Word was spoken softly without any harsh meaning behind it.
She smiled before jumping onto him making him fall back against the couch. They were both laughing and kissing at the same time. His arms going around her waist and hers going for his hair.
"How did it takes us this long Evans?" James was smiling like The love sick idiot he was.
"Shut up we're here now aren't we?"
"Guess we are. Hold on does this mean? Lily Evan do you wanna go out with me?"
"Yeah i do"
It's seventh year. She's 17 now, has been for a while, seventeen means she's an adult in The wizard world. Eighteen is next which means she's an adult in The muggle world. . Her last year on hogwarts. Suddenly the world seems all too big and she feels all to small, but James is with her and if liking the same guy for six years without dating him was a bit pathetic, then she was a bit pathetic. But they were dating now so it was okay. She knew they would be okay.

One Day
Request: Can I have a request? Snape x reader based on the song 'One Day' by Tate McRae. Marauders era until Hogwarts time... students until they're professors.... Thank you in advance 😊😊😊
A/N: So this was definitely a little tricky because I wanted to follow to plot of the song, but I also wanted a happy ending. I also tried to be creative about the whole young to old thing, but I’m sorry if it’s not really good. As always, I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more!
Severus X Reader (professor)
Warnings: fluff
Tumblr media
It’s your first day back at Hogwarts since you were a student, and it was weird to think that you were now a professor. It felt as though it were yesterday that you ran through the halls, scurrying from class to class. You had just finished unpacking and decided to head up to the staff lounge before your meeting with the other professors. There was nobody in the lounge except for Flitwick who was just leaving. ‘So glad to have you with us!’ he squeaked, ‘Defence Against the Dark Arts sure is a fascinating class to teach! Good luck Y/n!’ You smiled and thanked him before strolling into the now empty room. You glanced around hungrily, finally seeing what was inside the once forbidden room. It had some cushioned chairs and couches, a fireplace, a cupboard for robes, a desk, and a table with coffee, tea, and other juices. You helped yourself to a cuppa before settling onto the couch and grabbing the copy of The Daily Prophet that lay on the table adjacent. Skimming the pages, you looked up as somebody else entered the lounge. Merlin’s beard. It was Severus!
Before you knew it, memories crashed over you in waves.
You were in your second year walking to class with Severus, talking and laughing like kids do. You started to say something and looked over to him, but he had stopped a few paces back, staring longingly at Lily Evans who was talking to James Potter. His expression was clouded with pain as you tugged him along.
‘C’mon Severus, we’ll be late for Potions!’ you urged, wanting his attention back on you.
He pulled himself out of his stupor and you two continued down the hall laughing as normal, though you couldn’t help but feel a sense of despair. You would never be Lily Evans.
Your memories flashed forwards a few years to you and Severus lounging under a tree by the Black Lake, studying for your upcoming Charms exam.
‘What’s the most commonly used spell in households around England?’ you read from your notes, quizzing Snape.
‘Easy. Wingardium Leviosa,’ he answered, a satisfied look on his handsome young face. His dark eyes glittered as he continued, ‘I’m making my own levitating spell, you know. It’s going to be strong enough to lift a human by their foot,’ he looked around suspiciously before scooting closer to you and lowering his voice, ‘I think Levicorpus is the incantation that’s going to work. Once I get it, Potter’s the first one I’m using it on!’ His hot breath on your cheek sent shivers down your spine, and as you inhaled you noticed he smelled faintly of pine. You closed your eyes, savouring the moment. Severus went on, and you felt as though he had slapped you back into reality, ‘that will teach him to leave me and Lily alone. He doesn’t deserve her and I hate how he acts like it’s just some game!’ he was breathing hard now, clearly worked up. ‘It’s not a game to me,’ he muttered, seemingly unaware of your presence. Once again, the realisation that you would never be as good as Lily hit you like a train.
Flashing forward now to your final year at Hogwarts, your thoughts brought you to one of your most cherished memories.
You and Severus had just finished your N.E.W.T. Potions exam and were walking excitedly towards the school grounds, wanting to enjoy the summery weather. Severus’ voice was lower now and his face much more matured and handsome. He and Lily had been distant lately, so you often found yourself alone with him. Even though he seemed a little crestfallen, part of you hoped this would finally be your chance with him.
‘I don't think that was too bad,’ you watched him tear at some grass, and you were caught off guard when his dark eyes flicked quickly to your face. He smirked lazily. ‘Well, what do you reckon we do now, Y/n?’
‘I dunno…’ you glanced around as if an idea would present itself to you any moment. ‘What do you say to a game of Gobstones?’
He rolled his eyes, but sat up eagerly. ‘Sure.’
The two of you played game after game, laughing and covered in the smelly liquid sprayed by the marbles. It was just getting dark when you decided to jump into the lake and clean yourselves off. It was a quick event, but you splashed each other, both of you a little more playful than usual.
Your memory faded as the evening did and Severus’ voice pulled you back into the present.
‘Y/n,’ he gave you a nod and a welcoming half-smile, ‘it’s been… a while.’
You looked up at him. Once the skinny, sneering boy, Snape now exuded a composed, brooding energy. He had grown into his lank dark hair and obsidian eyes, and you couldn’t help but admire his unconventional appeal. Unsure of how your school-time relationship would impact your professional one, you decided to remain friendly but not clingy and returned his curt smile and nod. ‘Severus. It’s good to see you.’ He inclined his head once more, grabbed a cup of coffee and then swept out of the room, his dark cloak billowing in his wake. You smirked, ‘still a stickler for drama’ you thought.
Your first year teaching at Hogwarts was reaching a close and you really couldn’t believe how fast it had gone. Since your first interaction with Severus, you two had gradually eased back into your friendship. Now, it was rare to find a time outside of the classroom that you and Snape were separated; he always sat by you during meetings and meals, and you made sure to never let him patrol the halls alone. You knew you were in trouble the moment you saw his face again, and you’d long accepted that your old feelings for him had returned. Every time you saw him, however often, your stomach filled with butterflies. Sometimes you found it hard to teach because thoughts of him cluttered your brain.
It was a Saturday morning and you took your seat at the staff table for a late breakfast. Grabbing some toast and marmalade, you glanced around the room. Severus had just entered, striding towards you in his usual angry fashion. You smirked and reached for some eggs and had just finished scooping them onto your plate as Snape took the vacant seat next to you.
‘Morning, y/n.’ His low voice was still husky with sleep and he rubbed his eyes quickly before grabbing a plate of sausages.
‘Late night, Sev?’ As soon as you called him that you froze. That was Lily’s nickname for him and you had never called him that. He went rigid next to you and whipped around to face you, a frown on his face.
‘What did you call me?’ He didn’t sound angry, but more confused.
‘I’m sorry Severus, it just slipped out,’ you searched for words, ‘it won't happen again.’
Snape’s lips curled into a thoughtful frown. ‘It really doesn’t matter to me. That’s what Lily used to call me, you know…’ he trailed off, lost in memories.
Suddenly you were very annoyed. Still, after all this time, you couldn't compete with Lily Evans. Lately, you could have sworn that Severus might reciprocate your feelings and, of course, one slip up on your part and all progress had been lost. Without thinking you blurted out, ‘Severus, can’t you ever move on!’
His eyes darkened and his lips tightened into a grimace, clearly taken aback. ‘What… are you talking… about?’ he spoke slowly.
Your cheeks flushed with embarrassment and you stood up to leave. ‘Nevermind,’ you mumbled and hurried out of the Great Hall.
You heard him get up after you, but you didn’t care. ‘What the heck was I thinking?’ you scolded yourself, mortified, as you walked to your room. Too worried about running into Severus and still embarrassed, you stayed locked in your bedchambers all day. You caught up on grading and planned out next week’s lessons, and it was nearly time for dinner before you dared to venture out into the hall. Showering hastily and pulling on a clean set of robes, you left your confinement and walked down the stone corridor towards the Great Hall. At every cross-section, you crept slowly, worried about bumping into Severus. Unfortunately, he was much better at moving in the shadows and it wasn’t long before you heard his voice from behind you.
‘I take it you’re hiding from… me?’
You spun around to face him, breathing heavily and shocked. ‘Oh! S-Severus, it’s you.’
‘Yes. It’s me. Come.’ He grabbed your arm and pulled you into a deserted classroom. After he locked the door he spun around to face you, robes billowing angrily. You couldn’t look him in the eyes, you were so embarrassed, so instead you spoke to the ground, ‘Listen, I’m sorry about earlier. I didn’t think things through and mentioning Lily like that was cruel…’ You felt despair wash over you so you closed your eyes and tried to suppress it.
The room was silent for a few moments and you listened to Snape stalk around the room. When his footsteps stopped you looked up. He was standing right in front of you, dark eyes dancing. He tilted his head to the side before speaking and you looked back at the floor.
‘Y/n,’ he chose every word carefully, ‘you know that I loved Lily. But what you don’t know is that I haven’t thought about her in months.’ He paused and titled your chin up slowly so your eyes locked. ‘I love you. For months now, it’s only… been… you.’
You didn’t say anything but stared at him hard, looking for any give away that he was lying. His dark eyes stared back at you, glittering with emotion, despite the impassive expression on his face. Realisation washed over you. He was telling the truth.
‘Severu-’ you started, but he crushed his lips against you before you could continue. His hands wrapped around your waist and you tangled your hands in his hair. Your reactions felt natural and seamless, as though you’d been kissing him your whole life. Smiling, you had to pull away for breath and you looked at him, amazed.
‘You know I’ve wanted to do that since our second year at Hogwarts,’ you stepped closer to him and grabbed his hand. ‘I always knew that one day you would come around to me.’ He smirked and bent over you, pulling you in for another kiss...

On Peter’s magical abilities
This isn’t really a headcanon, mostly canon facts with a bit of my conclusions, but it’s essential for my portrayal, so I’ll put this one into the headcanon category. Here comes a long-ass essay on Peter Pettigrew’s magical and intellectual abilities, accompanied by every single objection I’ve ever witnessed during the years of being in Harry Potter fandom.
There is a lot of misconceptions about Peter Pettigrew that very few people are willing to dispel, because he’s just such a hated character, right?
The two Big Ones TM are: Peter’s reasons for betrayal (that will be covered in my next “essay”) and Peter’s magical skills. He is widely considered to be one of the weakest wizards in the whole Harry Potter series, if not THE weakest one. I hereby proclaim it bullshit. More under the cut.
1)  First thing’s first, Peter was one of the three youngest Animagi ever. At the age of 15 he pulled off a feat that not many adult wizards were able to do. Along with the registered Animagi and Rita Skeeter, there were 11 known Animagi in the 20th century total.
“But he needed help from James and Sirius, and was the last one to become an Animagus.”
McGonagall needed tutoring from Dumbledore to become an Animagus. Not from 15-year-old students, she got help from the most powerful wizard alive. Anyone here has enough balls to call McGonagall a weak witch? Yeah, didn’t think so.
Next, Peter being the last one. Before you embark on a serious enterprise, you study the materials and plan the steps. It was common knowledge that the process of becoming an Animagus was extremely dangerous. It could result in agony, it could result in irreversible mutilation or even death. If there is one thing that everyone remembers about Peter, it’s how easily scared he was.  Knowing all this, he ought to have lagged and postponed it as much as possible, until enough peer pressure had built up to finally make him go for it. Furthermore, the standard time for performing the tasks necessary for the first transformation is one month. No matter how talented or skilled you are, it’s one month of carrying a mandrake leaf in your mouth and repeating the incantation at every dawn and dusk. As soon as that term comes to an end, you have to wait for the first electric storm. Electric storms aren’t known for being exactly punctual. They depend on a million things. Taking into account that Peter did all that shit not at the same time with James and Sirius, he could’ve waited for his electric storm for ages, after James and Sirius had already completed the ritual.
“But in the flashback he couldn’t list the traits of a werewolf despite having spent a lot of time next to one, and he tried to crib his friends’ test answers. How talentless does one have to be for that?”
To be quite frank, I really hate when Peter gets compared to Neville, but remember Neville? It was very clear that Neville had anxiety. He’d forget things, lose his rememberall, make a fool of himself in front of the teachers and was overall clumsy. Then, in a critical situation, he showed himself as a talented wizard, and the fandom welcomed that change. Neville overcame his anxiety once he grew up and learned to deal with his inner demons, and voila, turned out he actually had talent in him, it just hadn’t surfaced before! Yes, the reason for Neville’s anxiety gets named and the reason for Peter’s doesn’t (which is food for thought in another headcanon), but does it really matter if they clearly had the same problem, and that’s what serves as the main reason for comparison of these characters? Anxious people tend to do much better once they are out of school, and here we move on to the next topic.
2) Peter was a member of the Order of the Phoenix.
“But the Marauders always had him in tow, so of course they made him join.”
The Order of the Phoenix was a near-military organization, its members fought in a war. It wasn’t a “participation award” kind of club. They couldn’t afford accepting inept wizards to make them feel better. They needed members who knew how to put up a fight, skilled, powerful members. Dumbledore was the head of the organization for fuck’s sake, and he was a better judge of people’s abilities than, say, Sirius.
3) When confronted by Black in the street, Peter neutralized Sirius faster than Sirius could neutralize him, framed Sirius for treason and mass murder, faked his own death and escaped. He came up with all of this in mere seconds, under immense pressure. This plan was so good it had worked for 13 years.
With his wand behind his back, Peter wrecked a square and turned 12 people into mince with a single spell, Confringo. Now, this is a dueling spell, normally used in dueling competitions. Not real life fights where wizards might aim to kill each other. There are several mentions of using Confringo in life-or-death battles, and the most known are: Harry destroying the flying motorcycle's side-car during the Battle of the Seven Potters and Hermione Granger trying to kill Nagini. A side-car is not a big deal, and Nagini lived on to the final chapters of the book. Evidence suggests that Confringo doesn’t normally have effects as devastating as when it was used by Peter. One spell, 12 victims and huge collateral damage.
“But he just said the incantation and pointed a wand, that’s easy.”
If that’s easy, why does most of the plot of Harry Potter books revolve around young wizards sweating away for seven years to learn to control and apply their powers when casting spells? Why aren’t they simply given lists of spells to memorize and graduate in a year? Why do inexperienced wizards end up accidentally killing themselves with the destructive magic they fail to control? See Crabbe burning himself to death with Fiendfyre. Why are other wizards in the story considered to be powerful for just shouting spells and pointing wands?
“But McGonagall said Peter was hopeless at dueling, and wasn’t in the rest of Marauders’ league talent-wise. And Sirius called Peter a talentless pathetic thing.”
First, see (1). Second, a character’s bias does not equal narrative truth. Rowling’s books are essentially detective stories that follow the laws of the genre. McGonagall’s and Rosmerta’s words (that fat little boy who worshipped James and Sirius) were supposed to lead us away from any assumptions about Peter other than him being a harmless, logical victim of Black’s crime. So that in the end we get shocked. The Ministry sent DEMENTORS and Hit Wizard Squads (equivalent of muggle S.W.A.T.)  after Sirius. All of this because they thought that Sirius had done what Pettigrew had actually done. We get this picture of Sirius as a terrifying dark wizard, but as soon as the culprit turns out to be Peter, he’s suddenly weak? But the killer seemed so nice and people told stories about him saving puppies! But Peter seemed so weak and people told stories about him being academically unsuccessful!
The Prisoner of Azkaban, chapter 10:
Fudge: “Nobody but trained Hit Wizards from the Magical Law Enforcement Squad would have stood a chance against Black once he was cornered. I was Junior Minister in the Department of Magical Catastrophes at the time, and I was one of the first on the scene after Black murdered all those people. I — I will never forget it. I still dream about it sometimes. A crater in the middle of the street, so deep it had cracked the sewer below. Bodies everywhere. Muggles screaming.”
Now replace “Black” with “Pettigrew”.
3)  Peter is able to cast Avada Kedavra (with a wand that wasn’t his own, which makes it harder to perform magic AND he didn’t even win the wand’s allegiance).
What does it prove, other than Peter being a filthy murderer once again?
The Goblet of Fire , chapter 14:
Crouch Jr as Alastor Moody:“Avada Kedavra’s a curse that needs a powerful bit of magic behind it — you could all get your wands out now and point them at me and say the words, and I doubt I’d get so much as a nosebleed.”
Crouch was insane, his words aren’t reliable.
Despite being a crazy Death Eater, Crouch Jr shares the title of the most effective DADA professor in Harry Potter history, along with Remus Lupin. I also doubt his mental issues prevented him from adequately estimating the features of Avada Kedavra.
4) Peter overpowered a Ministry employee Bertha Jorkins, helped Crouch overpower Moody who was known as the greatest auror of his time, and brewed the very first Polyjuice potion for Crouch.
“Voldemort calls Peter stupid and inept all the time and praises Crouch. Crouch must’ve overpowered Moody alone, and Peter was just a bonus.”
Voldemort is notoriously sadistic. He enjoys causing pain in all forms, mental and physical. He relishes people’s pain. He is also one of the best Legilimens users out there. Having such a rich history with Peter, Voldemort knows his every weak spot, every single one. Not only does he use Cruciatus on Peter liberally, he prods the old wounds, namely inferiority complex. And still, even Voldemort can’t refrain from admitting that Peter tends to have “moments of brilliance”. Peter was the one who found Voldemort when everyone else (the allegedly way more powerful and intelligent Death Eaters) had failed. Peter was the one who conjured a rudimentary body for Voldemort, and brought him back fully with the use of ancient magic even Voldemort doubted would work.
“Big deal, throwing a bone, a drop of blood, and a hand into a potion.”
Big deal, being good at potions? Ask the people who had Snape for teacher. Once again, Voldemort himself deemed the task to be complicated.  Anyone here wants to question Voldemort’s competence in magic? Magic is about inherent ability first and foremost, not the set of steps to complete. Otherwise there would be no such things as muggles and squibs.
“Peter just followed Voldemort’s instructions for that potion.”
And all wizards in the story followed instructions of their teachers at some point. Are they all weak? Peter (or anybody, really) clearly had no reason to be interested in THAT potion until he found Voldemort in his incorporeal state, so why would he learn how to make it beforehand? Harry had Snape’s textbook to help him excel at potions in his sixth year, but does that nullify his power overall? Also, everyone forgets that Peter DID graduate Hogwarts. That requires passing N.E.W.T. levels.
5) Other things: Peter took part in creating the incredibly intricate Marauder’s map. He can cast non-verbal spells (N.E.W.T.-level advanced Transfiguration spell Incarcerous on Harry, stunning Ron and Crookshanks (with another wizard’s wand), levitation of Harry), which are also considered advanced magic that requires outstanding abilities.
Peter Pettigrew is a lot of things, but a weak wizard he isn’t.
