Since the top post on my dash right now is Thanksgiving-related ...
Does anyone have any suggestions for a Thanksgiving alternative? My kids have decided -- and I don't necessarily disagree -- that they don't want to celebrate Thanksgiving. But I'm hesitant to give up a *special* day in favor of making it *just another day*.
So, I'm open to suggestions, if anyone has any.

Demonstrators in New York have disrupted the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, calling for a free Palestine! 🇵🇸
Calling to mind the genocide that white settlers carried out on Native Americans, they held a banner reading "Genocide Then, Genocide Now."

The fact that we, Arabic-speaking average people(aka non-journalists), have to keep up with translating Palestinian posts from Arabic to English to avoid having Western Media/Pro-Zionists mistranslate on purpose, says enough about how we all lost trust in the media. From the "there's a list" guy who was standing in front of a calendar and condemning the days of the week, to the BBC's mistranslation of a freed Palestinian hostage's interview. I will try my best to keep translating whatever I can find, and I encourage my fellow bilingual/multilingual Arabs to do the same. It's already sad enough that Palestinian journalists and even children have to use English in videos instead of their native tongue in order to get the world leaders' attention.
Please keep speaking about Palestine.

My two least favorite holidays: Halloween and April Fools. Without a doubt. I hate these so much. They should just go and die. One is too scary and the other is a day dedicated to the mean-spirited art of pranks. I hate both of these holidays.

The protests that happened at the macy's day parade are so important specifically because they tried to stop people from finding out about them. I watched the whole parade and didn't see a single sign or protestor, because try as they may to claim the show is live, they've been doing this for decades, they have full control over what footage the camera's capture and when ads conveniently cut away from what's happening. I found out from the few people still talking about the protests that there were any happening at the parade today.
They know we're all getting so tired and sad of hearing about what's happening. They want to make it as difficult as possible for us to interact with it, in hopes that we give up. They want you to say "It's Thanksgiving, we deserve a break from hearing about this."
I know that it hurts and it's stressful to try to help, but we have to keep going if we want anything to change. The writer and actor strikes were successful because they didn't give in.
It doesn't have to be much, you don't have to spend your days doomscrolling footage and fighting zionists. Just email your representatives each day, boycott businesses that support Israel, and hang on tight. As long as there is hope, there is a way through. The Palestinian people will be free.
