11 questions!
@allwaswell16 tagged me to answer these 11 fanfic questions, so here goes! (Note for those who don’t know, I write/have written in a wide variety of fandoms, not just 1D.)
1. What fic have you written that you wish everyone would read?
tbh, probably leave the stars to burn (Star Wars sequel trilogy, space pirate AU, Rey/Ben Solo but in a mostly unrequited way). I don’t ‘ship this pairing in the way where I want them to hook up in canon, and I don’t read much Reylo unless it’s got an interesting premise, but this was super fun to write. And it ends with SPACE PIRATE QUEEN REY.
2. What’s your favorite character you’ve ever written?
I still think my favorite character to write is GenKill’s Brad Colbert, because he is just such a weird dude. (My second most popular tumblr post is the anecdote from Wright’s book about Brad raking the shag carpet at his parents’ home [no,  this isn’t a metaphor].)
3. What’s your most popular fic and why do you think it’s your most popular?
I’m sure this is no surprise to anyone: my most popular fic is the Generation Kill soulbonding Après moi le deluge. I would guess that it’s popular because that trope hadn’t really been done in GK when I wrote it? I can’t re-read it because I just see all the things I want to fix, but I really, really love the sequel (and the comment someone left on pinboard once about how it was disappointing - I always wanted to know what they thought was disappointing about it, not because I was mad about the comment, but because I was fascinated by the idea that someone might be disappointed by the wrench I purposefully tried to throw into the trope).
4. What’s one of your favorite fan fics that you haven’t written?
I keep a running spreadsheet called “things I want to write someday”, and chief among these is one for The Martian, where a drifting Mark goes to Chris and Beth’s place and chills with the baby for a while, and eventually this ends up OT3. I think about it fairly often. Someday I’ll write it! If I can ever re-watch the movie without crying a lot.
5. What is your current WIP about?
Currently I am working on: A Pacific Rim AU for Generation Kill where Brad and Ray are drift compatible that I’m maybe 75% done with and is one of those things I’ve been picking up and putting down for years - maybe this year is my time to finish it!, a Clone Wars thing that’s Rex/Anakin/Padme that I may or may not finish, a Bruce/Clark/Lois DCEU mpreg story I’m writing for a mini-BigBang, and something for @cyoaficfest that I have barely started planning. I think I’m going to write a GenKill aquarium AU of some sort. It’ll probably be ridiculous.
6. What is a fic that you hope to write someday?
Aside from the previously mentioned Martian threesome, I someday I want to write fics for: Fury (the Brad Pitt WW2 tank movie), Elysium (the Matt Damon wears a robot exo-skeleton to steal medical help from rich people on a space station movie, Diego Luna is also there!!), Terriers (a TV show no one watched but me), Hannibal, L.A. Confidential (sadly this movie has mostly been ruined by the Kevin Spacey stuff), Valerian, The Hunger Games (Haymitch/Katniss[/Peeta] but idk if this should be a threesome or poly-v), more Shetland, and the Sports Night Sydney Olympics story that I have wanted to write since I first watched the show.
And someday I will write that The Way, Way Back fic that I continually request for Yuletide but no one ever offers to write. So I guess it’s on me.
Also Diego Luna/Gael Garcia Bernal soulbond.
7. Do you read fics from other fandoms? Which ones?
Per my AO3 history, the last ten things I have read are from: Good Omens, Pitch, Captain Marvel, SW:OT, SW:ST, the Ant-Man story I got for fandom5k which was delightful, Aquaman, hockey RPF, due South, and Captain America.
8. What author or book has influenced you as a writer?
tumblr for some reason sort of makes fun of Hemingway’s writing style, but honestly the one thing that has been most influential on my writing is The Snows of Kilimanjaro. Whenever I can’t write, I re-read it, and that generally shakes me out of my funk. This has been true for years now, as evidenced by this hockey RPF piece from 2012 titled after a line in the story. Probably second to this would be Flannery O’Connor - the reason we should do it again is in past tense is because I was reading her collected short stories while I was writing it, and the style just stuck in my brain.
9. What’s one of your favorite books from when you were a child?
I honestly do not remember. I know I read at least one of the Little House on the Prairie books enough that it fell apart!
10. What’s an au/trope that you thought you didn’t like until you read one and loved it?
Here’s where I date myself and note that there is so much more tropefic now than there was when I started reading fanfic. Not that wings and mpreg didn’t exist before then, but man, popslash sure managed to cover a lot of trope bases. So really there is no trope that I thought I didn’t like before reading it, because reading it was often my first exposure to said trope.
11. Choose one: angst or fluff?
Fluff. I like writing angst sometimes, but it generally ends up with a fluff ending, and I’d usually rather read fluff than something dark.

(some of) the genkill guys as the kinds of crushes i had as a teenager:
brad colbert: the one so popular and good-looking and widely desired that my mind skips over him before i can begin to contemplate anything for my own protection. “YOU DON’T LIKE BRAD???” people ask me and i just shrug, ‘cause he’s alright, but he’s like - mainstream crush material, man.
ray person: the friend who shouldn’t be as charming as he is, but something about his ridiculous, over-the-top ass still makes me giggle like a loon even when his jokes miss the mark.
nate fick: the one i think i have a chance with because he’s such a good dude, even though he’s plainly beautiful and super well-liked and thus has a very wide potential dating pool to choose from.
james trombley: the one who actually hits on me once, which earns him a brief crush because positive attention does that no matter who shows it, but ends up making me question my life and choices almost immediately. he also ends up spreading nasty rumours about me to save face over me turning him down.
walt hasser: nate fick x1000 because he’s also warm and kind with everyone, not just pleasant.
poke espera: that one dude in class who’s super cynical and intelligent and talks like i imagine college kids do and i worship him for it, but he doesn’t bother with the silly soap opera of high school relationships with anyone.
gabe garza: the guy i have tangential contact slightly above “classmate” with, like an extra-curricular or something, and i actually have the courage to flirt with him because he’s friendly and non-threatening but he never goes beyond friendly and non-threatening.
rudy reyes: that one jock who completely breaks my type and makes me hate myself even more for being unpopular whenever i see him.
evan “q-tip” stafford and john christeson: the guys i think might be gay and waiting until they’re out of high school to come out, so i’m extra nice to them whenever i can be, and they’re not really crushes but both of them have smiles that make me a bit weak in the knees.
doc bryan: the one who just seems like an asshole until he stands up for someone who’s always being bullied or calls out dudes who are harassing girls or even stands up to a tyrannical teacher, after which i always daydream about him as my own personal knight in shining armor for the next month or so.
reporter (can’t believe i forgot him!): the Teacher Crush
