Oh, Dear… | Eddie x Fem’reader
Tumblr media
Chapter 2, Pt.1:
Chapter 1:
Chapter 2, pt.2
Tumblr media
Waking up to your dad kissing you goodbye for work was sweet. However, you checked the clock on your nightstand, which read five-forty. Understandably you were pissed since your alarm would go off at six-thirty. So you tried to go back to bed, and you succeeded. The next time you woke up was when your alarm sounded off. A soft groan escaped your throat as you dragged yourself out of bed and into the bathroom.
You quickly discarded your clothing, looking at yourself in the Mirror. Your body was decent, having friends other than Eddie saying you were pear-shaped. When stepping on the scale, the weight was high, but you understand that it's because of the muscle in your legs. You also know it was because your thick build, mainly in the stomach and chest area, shyly enough.
Quickly turning around before the staring turned into something terrible, you turned on the shower. Once the bath was ready, you jumped in, letting the steaming water wake you up. The shower only took a few minutes, shaving your legs, washing your hair, cleaning your body. You turned off the shower and grabbed your towel, going to your closet to pick out an outfit. Digging through the drawers for a matching set of bra and undies, and your wardrobe for a comfortable yet fashionable shirt and pants.
A loud honk startled you out of your autopilot, which had you rushing a bit to get finished. You quickly pick out some socks, grab your backpack and slip on your shoes. You check the time, and it says six fifty-five; you’ve finished early. You step out the door, quickly spotting Eddie's van. A wide smile flashed across your face as the tired bags under your eyes hid underneath your cheeks.
Eddie quickly spots you, waving for you to hurry up, making you laugh softly. Quickly you hop into the van. Eddie pops in one of his CDs and drives off towards the school.
You dig through your bag, ensuring you have everything, and with a sly smile, you turn to Eddie.
“Hehehe, hey Eddie.”
Eddie glances at you and groans, making you laugh even louder.
“Oh God, you're making that face. What are you planning, goofball?”
You only snicker, which makes him laugh a little. You then hold out your hand and look up at him.
“Give me your hand Eddie.”
“What- No! I need my hands to drive, (Y/N)!”
“I only need one hand, Idiot!”
Eddie groans and dramatically plops his hand on yours. You giggle and begin playing with his fingers. Eddie glanced towards you again, a soft pink sprinkling across his cheeks. He sighs softly as he feels you gently mess with his hand and enjoys the moment.
“All you wanted to do was hold my hand?”
“Oh definitely, your hands are pretty remarkable. With all your special rings.”
Eddie snorts at you, looking at the road, flicking you softly. You quickly shove something on one of his bare fingers and let go—He yelps at the sudden feeling.
“Aha! There, we go.”
Eddie raises his hand, and you feel your heart flutter as a beautiful toothy smile lights up across his face. You watch as his brown puppy eyes light up and his pupils expand. You feel your face turn rosy and force yourself to sit up.
“I…I got that for you, Eddie. Do you like it?”
“Are you fucking kidding me? (Y/N) it’s so badass! When did you get this for me? Yesterday?”
You nod shyly, looking up at him; Eddie ruffles your hair and gives a hearty laugh,
“How? I was with you the whole time!”
“Well…I may have lied when I said I needed to go to the restroom. I did have to piss, but- I wanted to give you something to show you how much you mean to me.”
Eddie stops and parks the van, and you quickly notice that you're finally at the school. You take the chance to change the subject, and you turn to him with a smile.
“Let's hope we have a tremendous senior year, Eddie! See you at lunch.”
Before Eddie could get a word out, you opened the door, grabbed your stuff, and darted into the school.
Eddie watches as you leave unexpectedly, his face a bright red. He lifts his hand to admire his new ring and lets your words replay in his head. Eddie smiles softly before getting his things and beginning his school day. Distracted the whole time, playing with his favorite ring…the one you got him.
————————————————
During the first half of school, you had tried to focus on the classes. Only to end up failing and thinking about Eddie’s happy face. Especially during English, which you shared with Robin, she sent small notes that caused you to blush. The bell rang for class, and Robin hopped over to you with a grin.
“Sooooooo, who’s getting your mind all sidetracked? I know when one of my best friends is a bit starstruck.”
You groan at Robins's sly words.
“I am not star-struck, just…thinking.”
“Thinking about what?”
A deep voice that you recognize speaks up. It causes you and Robin to look up and see Steve looking between the two.
“Well, Steve, if you’re so inclined to know, I gifted one of my guy friends something…and he made a face I wasn't used to.”
Steve chuckles, walking in.
“You should talk about all of this star-struck behavior after school. That includes you, Robin, if (Y/N) doesn't spill to me. She’s going to spill to you. Anyway, get to class; the bells are about to ring.”
Robin curses under her breath, waving a quick goodbye as she rushes down the hallway while you are headed in the other direction. You make it to your study hall just as the bell rings. Looking around slowly, you spy Jason Carver, Patrick Mckinney, and Andy. You try your best to hide away from them, taking out your sketchbook and using art as a distraction. It worked for a while before a hand touched your shoulder. It made you jump, causing you to turn and see Jason next to you.
“Oh, hey (Y/N).”
You start to panic internally, and you quickly shut your book.
“H-hi Jason…what are you doing here?”
“Don’t sound so scared…I’m just here to say hi.”
“W-well, thank you-”
“What are you working on? More of Satan's art?”
You take a breath in and stare up at him nervously.
“No- no, I’m not. It’s just for fun-”
He interrupts you rudely.
“Well, I did see you with that demon before, so I’m not sure your term of fun is…up to God’s standards.”
“P-please leave me be, Jason. I'm not trying to start anything.”
“Oh, of course, chubby (Y/N) never liked confrontation…did she. Well, you’ve certainly lost a few, but don't forget. You’ll always be the same.”
“Please-”
“Well, I can't hang around you long, or I'll start getting unending cravings. Have a great day….”
Jason snickers, gripping your shoulder, making you wince in pain. He lets go and walks back to the table with a shit-eating smile. You feel the hurt crawl up your back, but you hold it and wipe your eyes. You continue to draw, sniffling a bit, trying your best to ignore the snickers.
The bell rang for lunch, and you waited for everyone to leave before you started packing your things. You dart into the hallway, dodging other students and teachers. When you quickly spot Robin and Steve ahead and try to catch up to them.
Eddie, though he had just gotten done with mathematics, strolled out and made sure people walked into him. A cocky smile on his face as he relished in the disgusting stares. He yawns before spotting you in the crowded hallways. He feels his heart flutter, and his mood gets brighter when suddenly he sees you fall.
When you try to catch up to Robin and Steve, you feel a foot move in front of yours. Screaming in surprise causes Robin and Steve to turn, seeing you trip and fall. They stop and book it towards you; Eddie does the same. They pick up your scattered papers and dropped books as you adjust your dress. You stand, Robin and Eddie Comforting you as you sniffle, tears filling your eyes. Steve, on the other hand, went up to the person who tripped you and chewed them out. It was one of the cheerleaders, and they ran away with tears and makeup down their face. Steve walked up to you and the others.
“You okay?”
Steve says, glancing back at Eddie, who only was focused on you. You smile up to both of the boys and laugh.
“Yea, I’ll be fine. A small trip didn't hurt anyone! Plus I bet it was Jason's idea.”
Steve stares at you, crooked.
“Jason? What does that asshole have to do with this?”
“Yeah? What does that basketball bimbo have to do with you getting tripped”
Eddie jumps in, Robin grinning as she runs gentle circles in your hands.
“Oh…well. He did say something to me in my study hall.”
The group moved to the cafeteria and sat, you sit in the seat closest to the wall. Robin looks at you, motioning her hands for you to continue.
“I well…he made fun of me about my past and being big.”
“Oh, he can suck my dick. Being big is beautiful!”
Eddie hissed, causing you and the others to smile.
“Thanks, Eddie...”
“Eddie’s right though, Jason is just trying to mess with you. No matter what size you are, you’ll always be you. I would beat the shit outta him but I don't want a suspension on my record.”
Steve says carefully, Robin nodding with him.
“I would love to as well, but, Band kid babe right here. Unless you want me to play my trumpet in his ear.”
You laugh and munch on your lunch. Looking at your friends, you feel relief taking over your body. Your shoulders relax as you speak.
“Thank you, guys; I appreciate you all for being my friends. I don't know what I’d do without you.”
You look at Eddie when you say your last sentence. Eddie’s eyes widened, and he chuckled, his heart jumping into his throat.
“Ahah- T-thanks (Y/N). You mean a lot to all of us.”
Robin and Steve smirk at each other before standing. They left to sit at their own tables and chatted with their group. At the same time, you and Eddie sat in an awkward silence for the rest of the lunch. Eddies fingers tapping a tune.
The bell rings, signaling lunch was over and the class was to begin. You and Eddie went your separate ways, and the rest of the day was busy with classes, which none had you or Eddie in together.

Hello! I just want to say your prose is so nice to read! Just wondering how long have you been writing with proses and if you read poetry in general? If you do, any recommendations for poetry books/poets to read from? Thank you!
hello!! thank you so so much for saying so!!! it makes me really happy, especially since I’m kind of a selfish writer. like it’s gratifying to hear that it’s nice for more than just me. the rest is going under a cut because I recognize that I kind of went off the rails and got carried away
the thing about the timeline of my writing prose is that it’s kind of. like. indistinct. like I think I’ve always had kind of an eccentric vocabulary and somewhere between here and there I started writing thoughts down. like I really don’t think I ever really sat down and thought “I’m going to write prose” so much as I saw the words of other people over the years and liked it and then I’m here suddenly. I’ll give it a rough estimate and say that this particular strain of my writing sort of crystallized in the past three or four years, though
like most of the time, lately anyway, I just start writing and try to communicate the images I see in my head but am incapable of putting to paper through visual and frequently incredibly violent metaphors and then I end up with. like. prose. like I don’t want to say that the evolution of my writing towards prose was accidental but well I do sort of think that.
as for poetry. the honest truth is that I don’t seek it out very often. like for context I just recently graduated high school and I took two english classes senior year just for funsies, so I’ve read poetry within the year. it’s just that that being the case doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve had that much exposure to published poetry. I think if I had to credit any sources for how I ended up where I am in like. artistic expression. it’d be 19th and 20th century novels (I read a lot of them at a formative age and am now cursed to talk just a little like a victorian child) and also any post on the internet that touches on a fundamental human emotion or experience entirely by accident and, thus, with unreplicable sincerity. like this is obviously oversimplified I’m very sorry about that but off the top of my head it feels true
ALLL that said this article from the poetry foundation about kids writing poetry has been in my head since I’ve read it, and it says a lot of things about writing poetically that I hope to embody
if I do come across any poetry or poets that I like I’ll be sure to come back to this ask. like I honestly think you deserve a better answer than this for your kind words
thank you again!!

Which are the top 10 schools for girls in India?
Tumblr media
The shifting process from a co-ed to a girls boarding school can be tricky for parents. It often is the first time that you have to think about all aspects of your child’s education and health.
Gone are the days when children used to live with parents in hostels. Here is a list of boarding schools in Pune For girls that might help you:
As per research conducted by schools in Mumbai to boost the education level of girls in India, several efforts are being taken by the government and NGOs. In this article, we shall discuss the list of top 10 schools for girls in India.
Well, you have come to the right place friend. It's a fact that I've spent countless hours putting together an amazing list of the top 10 best schools in India for girls. There are many resources to choose from but this list is detailed and informative, which means you can use it straightaway.
Are you looking for schools in India that offer education to girls? As per the statistics over 500 million girls are not receiving any kind of education which are the worst in developing countries.
The world has declared 2015 as the year of girls education and has initiated various plans to make schools accessible for all girls irrespective of their location, economic background or ethnicity.
Choosing the best school for your daughter/s is one of the most crucial decisions and a significant investment you will make in her life. A lot of factors need to be taken into consideration before zeroing down on a school.
The top schools in India do not only provide academic education, they also impart social and emotional development of their students. There are a number of schools in Hyderabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata and Pune among others. Here's a look at some of the top schools for girls in India…
The best schools are the ones where the students and teachers can learn together. Where the environment is conducive to learning, where there is a healthy student-teacher ratio, where the infrastructure is good and where there is no discrimination on any basis. You will find such schools in abundance in India.
The top 10 schools for girls in India are:
St. Joseph's Convent School, Allahabad
Bishop Cotton Girls’ School, Bangalore
La Martinière College, Kolkata
Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar
Mahadevi Birla Girls' Higher Secondary School, Kolkata
Mount Carmel School, Anand Nagar, Hyderabad
Auxilium Convent Girls' High School and Junior College, Mumbai
The literacy rate of women in India is low. The 2011 census of India has shown worse results than that of 2001 census, showing an increase in the gap between female and male literacy rates.
In rural areas, only 65% of women are literate as compared to 81% of men. Among women aged 15–24 years, the urban literacy rate is 92%, while the rural rate is 77%.
The Government of India had launched Saakshar Bharat Programme in 2009 which aimed at improving female literacy rate in India to 80% by 2017. However, progress has been slow and as per 2011 census, female literacy stands at 65.46% against 82.14% for males.
To accelerate the process, various measures have been taken by the government such as extension of working hours under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to include adult education classes.
A study conducted by Transparency International in India found that more than 50% of households reported that they would not support a girl's education if they had to pay for it themselves. The government has also launched other programs such as "Kishori Shakti Yojana" and "Sabla".
The education sector in the country of India is no doubt the largest in the world. It has a very large number of schools, colleges and universities. In fact, it has some of the most prestigious educational institutes in the world.
The education system in India is quite varied and different from one state to another. Education is compulsory for all children aged between 6 to 14 years.
The Government of India runs many schools in every state and city. There are some famous private schools that are run by certain trusts and societies as well. The main systems here are the state government schools, central government ones, private schools that are unaided and aided by the government.
The Government of India has taken a number of steps to improve the quality of education here. One can see this with many schemes it has implemented like SSA, RMSA, and Midday Meal Scheme as well.
There are also various scholarships and other schemes available for people belonging to backward classes or those who come from lower income groups.
Education is free up to class 8th at these schools which are run by the state government and many central government ones as well. A lot of funding comes from taxes that people pay but there is also a lot of help coming in from other countries like Japan and Germany.

reblogs and comments are appreciated! you can find more of my works on ao3! support content creators<3
let me just say I really enjoyed writing this one, to the point where I briefly considered writing a multi chapter fic for it, but I already have way too many wips lmao. it’s kinda stupid and it loosely follows the prompt but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
cw: alcohol mention; brief making out
kiss prompts
my ao3
Raya had never had a drink in her entire life, never really caring much for the appeal of alcohol, but tonight, she was seriously considering getting a cup of whatever concoction Sisu had made for the party.
The party was another thing Raya wasn’t crazy about. Crowded, loud places skyrocketed her anxiety; they always had since Raya was around twelve, for whatever reason. She could play the part of a social jock all day long—in high school, she was given the “Class Clown” senior superlative in the yearbook...as well as “Most Likely to Sleep Through the Zombie Apocalypse,” but that wasn’t the point—but her social anxiety always got the better of her in overwhelming situations.
She only agreed to this stupid party because her roommate, Sisu, was hosting, and Sisu was too nice to say no to, unfortunately. And there was no way to get out of it, either, because Sisu could tell whenever Raya was lying, so Raya couldn’t just say she was busy doing something that night.
Lucky for Raya, it wasn’t anything much, just a few dozen people from their close friend groups and plus ones, some snacks and refreshments, and Halloween music to set the mood. Raya hadn’t spent much time on her costume, putting it together a few days before—a sith lord, complete with a simple floor length v-neck black dress with slits up along her thighs she borrowed from a friend and a cheap red lightsaber—but at least its cut and silky material kept her cool amidst the many talking and dancing bodies in her and Sisu’s tiny college.
Everything was going just fine for the first half hour or so, that was until she walked through the door of Raya and Sisu’s apartment, dressed as one of Raya’s many childhood gay awakenings, Shego, from Kim Possible.
Before Raya could think logically about how to properly handle this, she was excusing herself from a conversation with one of her friends and making a beeline toward Namaari Fang. When she got into Namaari’s line of eyesight, Namaari’s focus landed on her, eyes widening. It was brief, quickly replaced by that scowl Raya had grown to hate since she was fourteen, but Raya didn’t have time to worry about what the hell that meant. Instead, she grabbed Namaari by the wrist when she reached her and her little posse of followers (the “Fang gang,” she liked to joke to Sisu and her other friends) and dragged her down the hall that led to her and Sisu’s bedrooms without explaining a thing.
When they got to her room, Raya shoved her inside and slammed the door behind them. From there, they erupted into one of their infamous arguments. Raya demanded to know why she was in her home, Namaari smugly answered that Sisu had invited her because the two were friends—something Raya still couldn’t believe, but she wasn’t about to tell Sisu she couldn’t be friends with someone simply because she had a longstanding feud with them. Sisu was the type to see the good in everyone as well, so it wasn’t like Raya could ever convince her to stay away from Namaari.
They hadn’t always been like this. Back in middle school, Namaari had been Raya’s friend, really her best friend. They did everything together, from movie nights to sleepovers to swimming for hours on end at one another’s houses in the summertime. They had different personalities, but they got along so well, and they shared most of the same interests. Like two sides of the same coin. They complemented one another perfectly.
Or so Raya thought.
Come freshman year of high school, Namaari wanted nothing to do with Raya. From what she told Raya, she apparently only humored her in middle school, but she had to take herself seriously in high school if she was going to get into a top rated college (it was ironic that they got into the same fucking school). It had hurt like hell, her betrayal. Raya’s depression worsened that year to the point where she finally caved to her ba’s requests and started going to therapy.
It hurt even worse that Namaari had been Raya’s first, real crush. By eighth grade, Raya almost believed herself to be in love with her, but she knew now how stupid she had been.
Ever since then, they had been bitter rivals, always trying to outdo the other and constantly arguing whenever they were in a room together. Raya remembered when they had politics together senior year and had to be separated because a debate had gotten a little too heated; she also remembered their coaches screaming at them after a track meet because they had both jeopardized the other’s performance, causing their team to place poorly; there was also the time Raya ended up in detention because she vandalized all of Namaari’s posters when she ran for president of the National Honors Society, but it had only been because Namaari had placed all of her posters directly over Raya’s posters, who had ran for the same position (surprise, surprise, Little Miss Perfect won, and all Raya got out of it was an hour sitting in silence).
By the time graduation rolled around, Raya wanted absolutely nothing to do with Namaari Fang and her perfect, snobby attitude and her arrogance and her big muscles and her stupidly pretty face that only seemed to grow more beautiful the older she got. Raya was over her and the friendship they once had, if she could even call it a true friendship.
Namaari Fang meant nothing to her.
It had sucked ass to find out that they were going to go to the same university, but it was also hilarious in a sick way because the whole reason Namaari had dropped Raya was because she deemed that Raya wasn’t good enough for her, and she especially wasn’t a good influence on her schooling. Well, Raya managed to do quite well in high school, save for the occasional trouble brought on by her rivalry with Namaari, and nothing made her laugh quite like knowing that Virana Fang probably had a heart attack when she learned that her precious, perfect little girl was no better than Raya Heart.
Their arguments had always been heated, full of sparks and fire that made them all that much more exhilarating. This time was no different. They traded insults, both old and new, and held nothing back. Raya may have been over this binturi, but she knew damn well how to hold a grudge. As for Namaari, Raya knew that her pride practically controlled her life, so that was where Raya always struck the hardest blows. Finding every little insecurity and shortcomings of each other was exactly what they had been doing for years, picking one another apart until they knew exactly how to make the other tick in just the right way.
They wound each other up in ways that infuriated Raya to no end, but it wasn’t like she was about to let Namaari know that and win. No, the day she let Namaari win was the day she would sprint across campus with her bare asscheeks out, naked, and barefoot on hot coal.
And then...Raya wasn’t really sure what happened.
One moment, they were in each other’s faces, trying their best to tear the other down, and the next, Raya was pinned against the door of her room and gasping for air against Namaari’s lips.
Namaari was practically attacking her with the force of her kisses, teeth and tongue clashing roughly with Raya’s. Briefly, Raya remembered that she was wearing black lipstick, and she was most definitely getting it all over Raya, but Raya didn’t necessarily care. She wasn’t thinking much to begin with, in all honesty.
When they had been friends, Raya used to daydream about confessing how she felt and sharing a kiss with her best friend. She knew Namaari was a lesbian because she had told her in seventh grade at one of their many sleepovers, and since Raya hadn’t come out to her yet by eighth grade, Raya used to imagine she would come out right before she confessed.
Out of all her fantasies, Raya never envisioned their first kiss happening like this—all harsh, demanding pulls of teeth against one another’s lips, drawing blood, and a tongue being forced down Raya’s throat.
As of the past six years, she never envisioned she would ever kiss Namaari Fang.
Namaari’s hand groped the bottom of Raya’s thigh, hovering near a dangerous area, and lifted it to step between her legs and bring their bodies even closer together. Raya couldn’t help the moan that escaped her lips, nor could she explain why she wrapped her leg around Namaari’s middle.
Her other hand snapped the ponytail holding Raya’s hair up in a high updo. Namaari dug her fingers through Raya’s locks, coursing through them before her hand came to rest at the back of her neck.
Raya had no idea what to do with her own hands. Sure she had kissed a handful of girls in her life, the majority of them being during her freshman year of college, so she wasn’t exactly inexperienced, but this was Namaari. Raya’s greatest enemy, Namaari. Stupid, annoying, self-righteous, beautiful, intelligent Namaari.
Raya’s former best friend and silly childhood crush, Namaari.
She settled on letting her fingers roam, because if there was one thing Raya remembered from all of her fantasies as a hormonal teenager, it was that she used to long to map out Namaari’s body, find every last dip and curve and memorize them. Namaari sighed against her caresses, sending chills down Raya’s spine.
In the last six years, Namaari had developed muscles, something a young teen Raya would’ve had a nosebleed over. And god, twenty-year-old Raya was taking her time feeling them, from her arms to her shoulders to her back. The spandex uniform only made her muscles more defined; Raya had to hold back a groan at their strength.
She felt like her entire body was on fire, especially in all the places Namaari was touching her. She was almost sure she was going to burst into flames when Namaari broke the kiss and moved her lips down to Raya’s neck, where she began to kiss and bite and suck with the same untamed wildness that was so unlike her normally collected and sophisticated self.
One particular bite to her throat had Raya gasping out into the dark room, the heat building low in her belly causing her to cant her hips forward.
It was when Namaari hissed her name, as if it were both a curse and a prayer, that Raya’s senses came flooding back to her. Horror filled her body at what she was doing, a freezing coldness washing over her like being doused in ice water.
This time, when she gasped, it was paired with Raya shoving at Namaari’s shoulders with her hands, pushing her as far away from Raya as possible.
The room was silent save for the thrumming of the music coming from the living room and the two of them breathing heavily, staring at one another with wide eyes. Namaari had gone so pale, Raya would’ve believed her if she said she was dying. She could only imagine what she herself looked like, after Namaari practically laid some kind of claim to her body.
What the hell just happened?
Who kissed who first?
Why the fuck was Namaari so eager to kiss Raya in the first place?
A million questions flitted through Raya’s mind, but she was starting to go numb from an overload of her senses, so the only thing she could get out was a shaky, “You need to leave.”
For once, Namaari agreed with her.
-
“Morning, Sisu,” Raya mumbled as she padded into their tiny kitchen the next morning. She started about fixing herself a bowl of cereal, not having the energy to make herself something hot with the migraine that was slowly settling in at the back of her head. She didn’t remember much from the night before. She recalled spending a few minutes at Sisu’s party, but after that, it was a blur. When she woke up this morning, she was disoriented and confused, but not like she was hungover. Raya didn’t even drink.
“Morning, sleepyhead,” Sisu chippered from the breakfast bar. How she was always so full of energy, Raya had no clue, but she wasn’t about to ask questions.
A comfortable silence fell over them as they did their own things. Raya planned to spend her Saturday morning in bed, preferably watching Netflix. She had homework to get done, but that could wait until the evening.
“Uh, Raya?” Sisu questioned when Raya sat on the barstool beside her. Raya glanced at her, eyebrows raised. Sisu had a hesitant look in her eyes, as if she was going to regret what she was about to say. “What’s that on your neck?”
Raya frowned and raised her hand to feel around her throat. Why would Sisu ask—
Oh. Oh shit.
So that wasn’t a nightmare.
Raya felt her face go pale as her hand pathetically dropped into her lap. “It’s actually a really funny story. You’re going to laugh when you hear it.”
Sisu did not, in fact, laugh.

Parent/Teacher Night: Ch 2, Remember When
In which Shino recalls some thens and compares them to the nows, and gets inspired to change some things with Kiba's encouragement.
*Modern AU, Swearing
**You can find this on AO3 now too, along with the first chapter. Let's gooooooooo!!!
•••
"He asked to trade numbers?" Kiba repeated, pausing all motion, chopsticks mid snatch for a gyoza.
"Yes. Is that... Weird?"
"Well, no."
Kiba reached over and chose his specimen, a plump piece just asking to be dipped. Shino continued eat his steamed rice. It was okay if Kiba wanted the last of the gyoza. Shino thought he might enjoy a serving of the restaurant's ice-cream after he finished his meat instead.
"But even I don't have Shikamaru's number. Least not his current one."
"You don't?"
"Nah," Kiba took in the gyoza whole and spoke as he chewed, "but ah neber bothered doo update it, I hab 'im on my socials anyway."
"Oh."
He swallowed, "But you didn't even have any kind of social media until later in college. You were late to the game!"
"I didn't see the point then..."
"And that's fine. He probably doesn't even know you have them now. But you know he's been pretty absent from social media too. Figures."
"According to Ino, he's been back in town since April."
"Well of course Ino would know, she's always been in everyone else's business. Especially Shikamaru's, and Choji's too!"
Shino silently made a face, distorting the corner of his mouth as if reluctant to agree, but Kiba barked out a laugh when he caught him.
"It's true though, isn't it!? You would know, Shino!"
Shino didn't plan to be seen, but oh well, "I think it's just her way of showing she cares. Those three are practically family, aren't they?"
Kiba sighed and rolled his eyes, "Listen, dude, just cause you 'dated' her for a couple of years back in college doesn't mean you have to be nice after the fact. It's okay! She has her manipulative bitchy side too. How else could she make it as a therapist."
"Psychiatrist."
"That."
Kiba emphasized the word "dated" in such a way that caused Shino to scowl. Geez, if Ino didn't insist on sharing pictures online...
"Don't invalidate my opinions just because you think they're biased, Kiba. Also, people grow from high school, don't be stuck in the past either."
"I'm not saying it's invalid, geez, but ever since you've always been soft on her..."
"Jealous?"
Kiba immediately threw a dirtied, crumpled up napkin at Shino's head as he blew raspberries in disbelief. Of course Shino dodged it.
"And that!" Kiba almost yelled, though he had a huge smile on his face, "You're sass meter has been off the charts since then!"
"I thought I was just asking a question," Shino simply replied, though he smiled too.
"Fucking jerk," he crossed his arms and closed his eyes, sighing dreamily, "Why would I be jealous when I'm with Tamaki now?"
Shino suppressed the urge to crinkle up his nose, "I remember back in high schoo-"
"THAT WAS HIGH SCHOOL!!" Kiba interrupted, not upset but voice almost breaking in both embarrassment and amusement simultaneously, "Now who's the one stuck in the past!"
"Well anyway, I was just curious if you had heard from him recently, because this was the first time I had seen him since he was an undergrad. That was a while ago."
"Same here, bud. But then here's a thought, if he's just working these days, and he's giving out his number to old friends, maybe we should all get together sometime! So why don't you also friend him on socials while you're at it?"
Shino paused and considered the suggestion.
Shino could do that. Actually, Shino could have done so a long time ago if he had wanted to. But for all the times he had seen Shikamaru's obvious username and cloud icon, he never sent friend request himself. He created his socials for the sole purpose of studygroup based messaging and had planned to delete his social media after school ended for good. But two months in and Kiba somehow found him, and then shortly after Hinata did too. Then Naruto also found Shino and from there he actually aquired a few more friend requests, including from Lee and Sai. Even Ino sent him a friend request, though Ino and Shino had actually attended the same University in the beginning. And then she called him out on it the next time she saw him in person, because how could Shino friend nearly all their mutuals and NOT Ino? He even friended Sakura before Ino! Though, Shino had a suspicion Sakura's request may had been a result of clumsy typing. Shino definately hadn't meant anything by it, but that started a series of... interesting talks between the two. But all and all, Shino suspected that's why he saw Shikamaru's icon so often, among others he didn't quite recognize himself.
Of course Shino knew he didn't have to accept the requests at all. He could've delete them even. But... it didn't seem right to ignore them either. And maybe it felt... kinda nice being reached out to...
"I mean, shit, maybe I should shoot him a message too..." Kiba mused.
"... I was under the impression it was for Mirai's sake."
Kiba perked up, "Huh?"
"That's because a cellphone number is a personal and direct line. If Mirai is currently under my care as a student, wouldn't it make sense to have multiple contacts in case of an emergency?"
Kiba sighed. Typical Shino, "Did Shikamaru say it was strictly for emergencies only?"
"... No."
"So, Dude, maybe... just maybe, Shikamaru simply isn't aware that you have socials? I know I know... social media is meant to be for socializing, but so are direct lines! Why does a direct line have to be so off limits? You're not a stranger to Shikamaru either, Shino. I mean, if anything, he probably trusts you a lot, knowing the kind of person you've ways been. It's a personal line after all, right?"
Not a stranger, but definitely not the person closest the Shikamaru either... It didn't quite make sense beyond Mirai's safety... but, maybe that was Shino's own opinion...
"... I'm over thinking it again."
"Yup."
"... Maybe I will. I'm already friends with Ino and Choji..."
"Yeah! Just complete the trio! Here let's see..." Kiba took out his phone and started to review something, "... I think the only people you're not friends with besides Shikamaru are... Sasuke, who simply deleted everything at one point, Neji, but he really only followed me because of Hinata," Kiba added wearily, "aaand a lot of... other people... but, like, you're better off that way. I have a lot of those assholes blocked or didn't bother. Even Sasuke had been more better of an option than them!"
"Like who?"
"Like I had to block Shikamaru's psycho ex-girlfriend Tayuya. Fucking nightmare that girl was..."
"Ah... the flute player," Shino wasn't all that to date back in the day either, but even he knew about Tayuya...
"Sure that was YEARS ago, and maybe she's different now? But she was... not okay then. To be fair, Shikamaru wasn't blameless, but cripes... After the break-up she was constantly stalking him online... I've just kept her blocked for good measure, I don't know if she's still even there."
Another reason Shino didn't want social media at the time... It made it too easy to let people in. In all honesty the idea had felt overwhelming, and sometimes still does...
"So you're good there."
"Sasuke, Shikamaru, Neji..."
"... Anyone else?"
"... I think those are the last few people from back then I'd actually tolerate. Shikamaru had been your friend, and Sasuke... wasn't always so aloof before he disappeared... And then Neji is Hinata's cousin..."
"Ha! Perfect! So then why not friend Neji too, just for the hell of it? You two had some kind of bro pact, I do remember that."
"He just worried about Hinata, Kiba. Between you and Naruto, I could see why."
"Sue me Shino, it's not my fault the school was full of cute girls!" Kiba nearly whined, but with a ridiculously dopey smile on his face.
It made Shino think. Shikamaru was one of the only people he more regularly saw who didn't reach out to him. But of course Shikamaru had a problem with a stalker at one point. That would make anyone weary of social media. Kiba had even stated he wasn't on much. Shino couldn't fault him for that.
Sasuke apparently deleted his, but it wasn't like they were the closet to begin with, despite humble beginnings. Shino had his fair share of complaints when it came to Sasuke, but when he transferred to a different school before senior year started, even Shino felt his absence.
And recalling high school, Neji did once ask for Shino's socials before. But it was obviously for the same reason of wanting to keep extra tabs on his little cousin and her "new friends" in Environmental Club. Shino had already explained he didn't have any, and he wasn't sure Neji believed him, but had agreed to be very careful with Hinata, who had started to hang out with he and Kiba more after they returned her book she had left in the club classroom. Shino kept it as Kiba was terribly tempted to take a peek, but once it had been returned, and Kiba expressed his curiosity, Hinata shyly presented them with page after page of pressed flowers, all marked with name, date, and little tidbits of info. She became even more bashful at Kiba's amazement and Shino's praise. It was just very well organized and aesthetically pleasing, something she and Ino would bond over later into their friendships.
So then, it was very surprising to know that such a timid girl had an incredible amount of skill in Martial Arts, but had opted to join Environment Club instead of Martial Arts Club. It was less of a shock to find out she and the school's Number One MAC member were related, first cousins even. They had a strong resemblance to each other.
As for Shino and Neji, their mutual fondness for Hinata became a source of camaraderie at some point. Despite expectations and Neji's sterness, all he really wanted was for Hinata to simply have fun during school, and he very much appreciated Shino looking out for her. So Kiba wasn't wrong. And in current time, Hinata had ultimately decided she was gonna live out of town due to... many reasons, but mainly because of her job as a pastry chef in a very successful and family owned cafe and bakery. Of course cinnamon rolls were her specialty, but Shino's feed always had some of the most delightful pictures of various decorated confections, most made by her too. He wasn't the biggest fan of sweets in general, but he was very fond of her handy work. You could tell she loved her job with every detail.
"Crap! Hey Shino, did you wanna order anything to go?"
"Uh, no. I think that was enough."
"Alright cause it's about time I go meet Tamaki," Kiba grinned, "Here's my part!"
Kiba slammed a twenty dollar bill down onto the table and hurriedly put his jacket back on. When Shino looked at the time it was nearly half past six. Oh, the reservation was made for seven. Maybe he talked too much.
"We might've pushed it, Kiba."
"No way, it's fine! I mean I don't mind going if that's where she wants to go, but you know how fancy places are! I need food Shino, actual food!"
Shino was glad that his friend was putting in so much effort for this girl. It seemed like he really liked her, and she was pretty cute, and also... nice. But when it came to things like this, Shino wasn't sure how long this was really gonna last. But it probably wasn't his place to comment.
"Make sure Akamaru takes his medicine, he'll definitely down it if you give him the peanut butter too."
"Sure, no problem."
"Also, Shino."
"Yes?"
"Seriously, don't be so shy! Just friend them!"
"Stop dawdling, you're gonna be late."
Kiba laughed as he waved and nearly jogged out of the restaurant. After paying and boxing the rest of Kibas plate for later (Shino was sure his idiot friend was gonna be hungry again) Shino headed out to Kiba's apartment. He already had a key, ever since he had come back to town. They had always been close like that, though with these new developments Shino always made it a point to give Kiba space and a heads up.
Akamaru was getting old. This medicine was supposed to help him in his old age, and just as Kiba said, Akamaru took the medication with no problem. Shino also made sure that the bowls were full of water and food. Because there was now also Akemaru, a younger dog of the same breed that Kiba had come across one day at the shelter. After only a few weeks and no adoptions, Kiba couldn't resist and ended up adopting him, and he and Akamaru became very close. As a favor to their otherwise absent owner, Shino got the younger and more energetic dog ready for a walk. When Shino offered to take Akamaru, the old boy wagged his tail and came to lick Shino's hand, but then retreated back to his bed and laid down. Looks like that was gonna be a pass, but he was thankful for the offer.
...
Shit.
Okay. Okay, that was it. Actually, this was perfect. Before Shino really started the walk, he pulled out his phone. He scrolled through he recommended friends list of his most commonly used social and easily found the cloud icon that belonged to Shikamaru. It was the same app he even had people like Kurenai and his father on. Just being able to keep anyone of relevance to his social circles on the same app was fine. It kept them close, but not too close either. Available, but at a distance. The only other people who had Shino's personal line were Kiba, Hinata, Kurenai, his father Shibi, Torune and Neji.
Shino hadn't mentioned that to Kiba, but in reality, they hadn't kept much contact anyway. So Shino hoped Kiba didn't snoop his friends list later, but he decidedly sent Shikamaru a friend request and put his phone away into a pocket. Then after switching out his glasses, as to see better in the evening, he left the apartment and began his walk with Akemaru. This would definitely keep him from getting too anxious about it. Shino didn't really know why he was like this, but it was done and now it was up the Shikamaru if he really wanted to catch up. Not that there was a whole lot to catch up on. He was more Kiba's friend after all, always had been, but Shino was sure Kiba didn't really think about that kind if thing too deeply.
Thankfully there was a park a couple blocks down, which even in the evening looked easy to navigate. The air was fresh and chilly, but tolerable with his coat on. Akemaru was good on a leash, and so Shino was able to keep a steady but not rushed pace. He followed a predetermined path, one Shino was actually familiar with too and so he was able to relax as his body went into coast mode.
...
It was nice. Just focusing on the walk. But Shino couldn't help thinking back to his high school days too. Seeing Shikamaru hadn't really been a shock so much as a surprise. He definitely... grew. His voice was deeper. His hair seemed more or less the same length, but maybe looked longer as now he styled it differently. Instead of the low and rather disheveled ponytail he used to wear, he now kept it only half up it looked like. Shino didn't think it looked bad at all, but with some loose strands in his face and the more casual clothes he had been wearing, Shino really wondered if Shikamaru wasn't more or less dragged last minute to PTN. But maybe he was thinking of the Shikamaru from before. Because this Shikamaru was actually... really approachable. And very kind with his words. Maybe that's what growing up some did to people.
Because the one from before was always annoyed, and grumpy, and quiet unless spoken to, yet Naruto and his shenanigans always put a mischievous smirk on his face. Shino had found him a little intimidating. But it wasn't until Kiba and Naruto decided to drag Shino AND Hinata out to a lunchtime hangout and pretty much threw them into the mix of different friends they shared that Shino met Shikamaru, as well as most everyone else. Shino had recognized Ino, and Ino did too after he mentioned Torune, seeing as Torune and Foo both graduated the year before.
"Torune? Like, short black hair, really thick glasses?"
"He has green eyes too."
"Hey, yeah! You're my cousin's boyfriend's cousin! What a small world!"
It was pretty lame introduction.
"And... you're Ino, right?"
"Wow, Ino, he remembered you!" a pink haired girl chastised.
"Oh, shut up, Forehead, it's not like we ever really hung out before. I think we met, like, once at one of Foo's birthdays?"
"That's true," Shino agreed, "I just went for the drive to drop off his present since that day he couldn't stay. You're mom insisted on giving us goodie bags anyway before we left."
"Ugh, good, our parents always go over the top with the decorations and stuff, believe me!"
"Ino, you are over the top."
"Shikamaru, no one was talking to you!"
"Wait, wait wait, your cousin Foo has a boyfriend?"
"Yeah, what of it," Ino immediately scowled at Kiba.
It made Kiba shut up immediately, but then he turned to Shino and whispered, "Hey, is your cousin gay?"
Shino shrugged, "I didn't ask, but it's none of my business." He was. Shino had known but Torune never outright told him they were officially dating. So as far as he was concerned it was a mystery.
"What about you, Hinata, I don't think we've met before. I'm Sakura."
"Um, hello-"
"Actually! We're in Home Ec together!" another boy munching on chips said, "She made the best cinnamon rolls in class the other day!"
Hinata blushed, "Ah, thank-you, Choji..."
"Cinnoman rolls!? I saw that that roll! Hinata, that was yours!?" Naruto asked, super impressed.
She only blushed even harder, "It might've been...!?"
"It was!" Choji confirmed.
"Naruto stop crowding already!" Sakura scolded, poking him against the side of his forehead, "You can be so loud!"
"Augh, alright, Sakura stop!"
It had actually been a relatively friction free integration. Hinata and the girls got along faster than he would've guessed, and later Shino and Sasuke would meet again, with Naruto giving Shino a suspicious stink-eye.
"We've been in the same classes since elementary school," Shino commented, "You have to really go out of your way to ignore someone for that long..."
"Hn..." As friendly as always...
...
From then on, Kiba always insisted on Shino and Hinata joining them at lunch, which Shino did. But Shino couldn't quite fathom the idea of sacrificing his after school time to go to out and do... well, who even knew? Back then, he had a routine, he had things to tend to back home. His terrariums that his father put him in charge of, his guitar practice because he wasn't about to let those lessons go to waste, his study time, and planning for EC activities as he was a more involved member, he was already a busy guy. At least that's what he used to think. But he would be a sad ass liar if he didn't appreciate the invitations. Towards the end he broke a few time at his father's insistence. He was mentally drained each time, but he did have fun, and Kiba always seemed excited to recall the events with Shino after.
Once he had attended collage, Shino really wished he would have taken more time to simply enjoy a more decent social life with the people he called friends at school outside of school. Was he too shy? Was he too selective? Was he socially inept? It didn't matter now. It wasn't until Shino's very first job that he felt like he got to a level he wished he could've reached sooner. Being a cashier at a fast food chain really taught you how to handle and tolerate people, and definitely brought Shino out if his shell more than he would've ever thought. College in general did a lot for him in that respect.
... Kiba was right. If old friends were reaching out, why couldn't Shino do the same?
Well, apparently the universe was glad he agreed, because the second he did, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.
Shino stopped in place and Akemaru whined. When he checked his phone, he saw not only a "Request Accepted" message but also a simple text message as well, also from Shikamaru.
-----
Hey, can you talk? Call me if you can.
-----
Oh what the fuck.
Shino felt his nerves stand at attention with the prospect of a sudden conversation. What... What did Shikamaru even want right now? Did he really want to talk now?
... No. No, dammit, no! Not this time. Shino took a deep breath and continued to walk, much to Akemaru's delight. And as he got a steady rhythm, Shino highlighted Shikamaru's number and pressed "Call".
It was settled. If he was gonna start making up for lost time, it was now or never, awkward interactions be damned!

task 08 | marley’s high school experience
let’s start with the simple stuff first. what classes did you take in high school? which ones were you most and least excited for? did you have a favorite teacher that made the days more enjoyable?
“oh, just the basics! math, english, science, social studies. i took a couple home ec classes, too. p.e., obviously. i was also one of, like, two girls in my shop class? maybe? it was probably one of my favorite classes in schoo, actually! aside from biology. i live for anatomy and physiology. my senior year i ended up in ap bio and actually managed a 4 on the exam and nearly lost my mind. coach thompkins taught all the bio classes - and coached basketball as well, obviously - so he wins favorite by default. he just always made class so fun! even when we were talkin’ about something like dna and rna and the super boring stuff, he found a way to make it enjoyable.”
and now, outside of the classroom. did you participate in any extracurricular activities like sports, band, or other clubs? were you apart of the prom planning committee or did your parent always sign up to chaperone field trips? or did you bolt home or to work at the end of the day?
“i didn’t join a whole lot if anythin’ until my junior year ‘cause i was focused on gettin’ out of my house and away from my parents. once i did, though, i did a lot. i joined ffa (don’t judge me), yearbook, dance team, track, student council, and then i worked on the ranch when i wasn’t runnin’ around with school stuff. i didn’t do band or anything like that. my artistic abilities end with dance. the most i ever did with prom or homecoming was fundraiser stuff and, like, making’ sure we stayed within our budget. i left the party plannin’ to the kids who had that kinda vision, because it definitely was not me. my parents were, obviously, not involved in the slightest. my grandparents were pretty prominent in the community, though, and they definitely got involved and helped chaperone stuff, which was a blessin’ and a curse. there was definitely no sneakin’ off to make out under the bleachers when paw was keepin’ an eye on things.”
a night to remember. did you go to prom? if so, did you have a date or fly solo, and was it a good time where you danced all night, and what were you wearing? if not, did you have an ‘anti-prom’ party, or why else did you decide not to go? what about other school dances or pep rallies?
“i actually went all four years of high school. i loved dances - more so for the dancin’ and social aspects than the dresses and dates! obviously the first two years i had dates - different guy friends - but my junior year i went solo! it was easily the most fun i had! senior year i went with a guy i dated for, like, three seconds. y’all know how high school relationships can be. i actually think i still have all four of my dresses tucked away at maw and paw’s somewhere? i’m a sentimental girl; i couldn’t get rid of ‘em. the first two were second hand because i bought ‘em myself. maw and paw bought my last two - my dress junior year was by far my favorite. it was, like, this periwinkle color? and so sparkly - i looked like a disco ball - and just a little risque. at least by high school standards, anyway. it was one of the first times i felt genuinely beautiful. as far as other dances went, we really only did homecoming? we never had any of those sadie hawkins things, thank god! i never woulda been able to ask the guys i liked to go back then. shockingly enough, i went to all my homecomings, too! i actually ended up on court my senior year! i didn’t win, but it was still fun! plus, the guy who won king that year was a giant jerk and i would have ended up kneein’ him in the groin or something while we danced. i didn’t have much of a choice with pep rallies - the dance team was always expected to perform, so i went. i was also a varsity athlete my junior and senior years, so when you letter you gotta go. i never minded, though! i liked the energy and bein’ over-the-top excited about things has always been my forte.”
some more of the hard hitting q’s. who did you sit with at lunch? did you keep the lock off your locker or decorate it? were your headphones always snaked through your sleeve? was cutting class a normal occurrence or would you never dare? did you ever get detention?
“ooohh, good question! if i remember correctly, my freshman and sophomore years i sat with a bunch of the more….troublesome upperclassmen. as a lovely little ‘screw you’ to my parents. if i couldn’t actually go out and be a giant pain in their asses, i was damn sure gonna make sure it looked like i still was to all their friends. middle of my sophomore year was when i ended up switchin’ schools and after that i usually sat with a few of my dance friends or other kids that i ran track with. i bounced between them and my ffa and student council friends through my senior year, but my dance friends were always my go-to. definitely never locked my locker. i had a helluva time rememberin’ my combo and i was damn near always runnin’ late, so i always left it unlocked. it was also always a giant disater. it’s a miracle i ever knew where anything was in my locker. we were never allowed to have our headphones in during any of our classes, so definitely not. i woulda gotten in so much trouble if i’d been caught doin’ that. i cut class pretty regularly my freshman year, but got my act together after that. every once in a blue moon i would after movin’ in with my grandparents, but it was always very strategic and i was very careful not to get caught. sorry maw & paw! eh, a couple times my freshman year, but not after that. definitely not after i started dancin’ and runnin’ track. my coaches would have had me runnin’ suicides until i passed out.”
upward and onward. what did you want to be when you were sixteen? was there a career path in mind, a certain college, another route worth taking? were you excited to see your high school in the rearview mirror or was moving on bittersweet?  if you graduated, was it scary or exciting or a mix of both? did you end up where your younger self expected you to?
“emancipated.” she laughed. “truly, though. that was the only goal i really had up until it happened. after that it took a minute. i didn’t really think i’d ever get to a point where i’d get to choose what to do with my life? there had always been this unspoken rule that i did what they said so long as i was their kid and nothin’ i wanted ever mattered to ‘em. for a while i thought i’d just work on the ranch, maybe take over when paw couldn’t do it anymore. some days i still think i might go back and take over and open my own vet clinic. somehow figure out a way to do both - carry on the buckley legacy and forge my own. but who knows! i gotta finish vet school first! speakin’ of, i never imagined college; definitely never thought i’d end up with multiple degrees. sixteen year old me would be floored to see me now. by the end of my senior year, though, i was kind of excited to see what i was actually capable of. i knew i was gonna miss high school and all my friends, but i also knew college was gonna be this new, excitin’ challenge? i’ve always loved a challenge and it was a chance to show my parents that they were wrong to shove me in their tiny little box and...i really do live for those moments, if i’m bein’ honest. that bein’ said, every time i’ve graduated or hit a milestone with school it’s been a little bit of a shock. i think it’s more or less that other people are still proud of my accomplishments - it never fails to throw me for a loop. definitely a mix of both scary and excitin’. i always try to lean into the excitement a little bit more, though. my younger self never woulda dreamt of bein’ here, so absolutely not. i really thought i’d end up married to a carbon copy of my father, hatin’ my life by now when i was a kid. i’d like to thank the powers that be that it didn’t happen.”
and last but not least. if you could tell your younger self one thing - what would it be?
“this is always so hard because there are so many things i would say to a younger me? i’d probably tell her to just...enjoy it more. don’t worry so much about disappointin’ the people who matter to you because there’s nothing you’ll do that’ll make them love you less. so, y’know, just be a kid and enjoy the moments when you’re in them.”

well, looks like i accidentally deleted saf’s intro post, because i thought it was a muse photo post (lol @ me). so here it is, rewritten! i’ve added/edited some trivial things, too, so here we go!
(ellie bamber, she/her) - have you seen seraphina albright? saffie / saf is in her junior year. the computer science major is 22 years old & is an aquarius. people say she is ambitious, candid, petty, and headstrong. rumors say they’re a member of hastings society. i heard from the gossip blog that she hacked into her schoo’s grading system and changed her grades to prove she could get into yates without her family’s help. (tessa. 24. pst. she/her.)
name: seraphina ivy albright nicknames: saffie, saf, sera, ser, s age, birth date: 22; february 14, 1998 hometown: new york city major, university: computer science, yates university sexuality: pansexual
past
“she debated our civics instructor so hard that he conceded so that he could go outside and take a smoke break.” “i watched her hack all of her ex’s social media during our cyber security class. didn’t look up from her laptop once.”
and that’s me, john booker rutledge.
no, it’s serphina ivy albright
seraphina is the daughter and only child of ethan and annabeth albright—a new york state senate field representative and a british transplant museum donor/philanthropist. (making it canon that saf has a few british english speaking tendencies—word choices, cadence, pronunciations, etc.)
does albright sound familiar? saffie is cousin to darby and leo (and the late james) albright through their fathers. ethan albright works for his brother, the state senator.
throughout her young life, both sides of the family were very tight knit. they’d take holidays together, have weekly dinners, attend events side-by-side.
all of this change after ethan and lucas got into an altercation. one moment they were standing in the hall, talking business and having a drink. the next they grew hushed and moved into a nearby home office. by the time ethan left his relationship with his brother was irrevocably broken.
no one knows exactly what happened in that room, but the parents will swear up and down that their side was in the right. this caused a deep split between both sides.
still, in order to maintain the image of a loving family and well-oiled machine, ethan continued to work for his brother. the only times everyone would really see each other, though, were briefly at events, during necessary business, and at james’ funeral.
you’d think the latter would’ve brought them together, but it didn’t!
saffie was slowly influenced not to like her cousins, her parents likening them to their parents in, well, not the nicest ways. to put it simply, they told saf that it’s probably best if she didn’t trust them.
being the young, trusting kid she was, she took their word for it. even if the whole ordeal revealed sides of her parents—of the entire family—that she began to strongly oppose.
teenage years / personality shift
suffice it to say, seraphine wasn’t a big fan of what she found made the albrights the albrights. for years she strove to impress her parents and meet their incredibly high standards: look perfect, speak correctly, present yourself with impeccable poise. learn three languages so that one day you can speak to a number of high-ranking business officials. pick up piano so you can “spontaneously” play at events and gatherings and impress your peers (oh, it happened! time and time again!).
a childhood nearly wasted, by saf’s standards. it wasn’t until she entered high school—about the time the debris settled from the family split settled—that she began to branch out and discover what she enjoyed. what she wanted to spend her time on.
her friend group expanded to those outside of her prestigious school, rapidly expanding her small world view and perspective on just about everything.
very quickly saf saw her path—and it wasn’t acting out like darby or grasping at the idea of perfection like leo. it was not giving a fuck. her family’s problems seemed abysmal compared to everything else happening in the world.
around this time she gained an interest in two things: the world and the computers it’s so obsessed with. thus her passions for current events/world news and computer science began.
quickly she became the black sheep within her household, a fact as amusing to her as it is frustrating for them.
look—all saf wanted to do was go about the city (and her life!) on her own terms. go see live music, attend her own peers’ parties and events, and god forbid have some time for friends.
an unspeakable offense in her parents’ perspective, especially because at this point her grades began to go down. it wasn’t that she wasn’t smart—she had the makings of any upper east side prodigy—she simply focused them elsewhere.
secret
that being said, by junior year it hit the girl that she’d need to step things up. attending yates, her father’s alma mater, was still the goal despite her own falling out with him. it was a damn good university and she had a deal to make. if she could get in on her own, she’d study there on her own terms. doing what she wants.
and you know what!? she did! after cheating her way through the system. lol.
it started with hacking one teacher’s grading system to change a few grades. then, slowly, it grew. midway through the year all of her teachers were lauding her turn-around. by senior year she was a “model student.”
cheers to the TAs for the assist! they did all of the actual assignment grading. saf bargained with them to not to say anything.
in the end she got her yates acceptance letter in the mail, packed her suitcases, and ended up in preaker.
present / personality / little facts
now she’s studying computer science and taking extra classes that capture her interests.
at the same school her estranged cousins attend. fun!
gave calloway, her father’s society, a big pass. went with hastings.
some quotes to capture her personality:
i hate it when people ask, “do you trust me?” like... don’t call me out... the answer is no.
if you have beef with me it’s one sided, because i literally don’t care
some tiktoks for more of a feel: one, two, three
so, yeah, she’s a bit apathetic and no-bullshit and that might be a bit polarizing to some!
but she genuinely doesn’t try to be mean to people. she’s just, uh, blunt. lol.
the type to write in sharpy in a bar bathroom stall, but it’ll say something like, “damn, you’re mad cute”
can’t drive for SHIT! always took taxis, public transport, and town cars in new york. probably learned how to drive a little... while in the UK... so, the opposite-sides-of-the-street thing disorients her
fact: she’s naturally a blonde and dies her hair red. every few weeks it looks like a blood bath in one of the hastings bathroom sinks/showers.
fact: when she’s about to do just about anything with a computer she does the violet baudelaire thing where she pulls her hair up into a messy ponytail
the rest i’m just!! figuring out as i go luv!! x

*/ FLORENCE PUGH , 20 , CISFEMALE , SHE/HER . i just watched dean matthews pull Abra Winter into his office. maybe it has something to do with them being a member of Phi Alpha. yeah, i spoke to Abby a few times. they’re a sophomore studying music. apparently they’re from upper east side, New York. maybe that’s why they’re so indifferent and vivid, i don’t know, man. all i know is they’re always listening to one headlight by the wallflowers.
Tumblr media
Born and raised on the Upper East Side of New York. Abra’s life was basically a running, reality episode of Gossip Girl- born to a musician father and a fashion designer mother, both parents were very successful in their chosen field.
Baby sister to Lennon, the girls were extremely close growing up and still are. Abra looking at Lennon as her one true confidant in life.
It was at a young age that Abra discovered a love for music, when her parents enrolled her for piano lessons, she instantly fell in love with the beauty of creating music.
Abra spent most her time devoting her time to her music, playing piano, guitar, violin and cello- most her afternoons and weekends as a child were filled with practice, lessons and concerts.
Despite being devoted to music, Abra still had time for a social life. Her circle of friends being tight knit and considered the royalty of the all-girls prep school they attended in the city.
Gossip Girl had Blair Waldorf and the real Upper East Side had Abra Winter- she was known for her cold, indifferent and aloof demanour, no one really being able to get close enough to the female to know much about her except her sister.
Abra knew that she’d always go to College to study music, there was nothing else she could ever see herself doing so when she received the acceptance to NEU, she was over the moon especially considering her sister also attended the college.
Graduating from high school with honors and a myriad of extra curriculars behind her, as well as a well known family name, as well as her sister already being a member, it was a given that Abra would rush Alpha Phi- everything about her screamed Alpha Phi.
When she survived rush week and was welcomed into the sorority, it didn’t take long for Abra to adjust to life on sorority row, taking the role of an Alpha Phi very seriously and taking pride in bearing those Greek letters.
Though she is very devoted to life as an Alpha sister, Abra’s number one love is still music, planning to become first chair violin in the New York Symphony Orchestra once she graduated.
Facts of a socialite:
Only had one serious boyfriend in high schoo. They dated from Sophomore year until Senior year when Abra ended things.
Despite only having that serious relationship, she has decided to play the field a little in college, letting her hair down.
Considers her sister her best friend.
Can speak three languages; English, Italian and French.
Is usually involved with various charities, liking to appear a philanthropist, something her parents instilled in them.
Used to teach under priveledged kids music back in New York.
Enjoys a good party.
Despite being a social butterfly, tends to keep people at arms length except a very select few.
Very much a daddy’s girl- she’s always shared her father’s passion for music.
A somewhat strained relationship with her mother, as her mother has always wanted Abra to be more outgoing.
Favorite color is always royal blue, tends to always wear the color in some form.
Truly believes retail therapy works a charm.
Tends to turn people away with her blunt, aloof personality.
Has a small tattoo of her favorite musical note behind her ear.
Possible connections:
ex-boyfriend: the boyfriend from high school.
fwb
drunken one night stand.
will they/won’t they?
skinny love.
best friends.
ride or die.
childhood friends.
frenemies.
rivals.
enemies.
friends turned enemies.
good influence.

Stairway To Succcess
Are you willing to sacrifice your own happiness for the sake of your own family? Are you willing to take the risk even though your you're not sure what will going to happen next?
Well if not, Let me share to you My True to life experience. In our world change is the only constant. When I was 10 years old, My family was suffering from a financial problem. And one of us should stop from going to school. But we all know that education is the only thing that cannot be taken from us so we should nurture and give it importance because its will shape our future. God has never given any problem that there's no answer. My father and I went to the province of bicol it was a bario fiesta there and my father opened up our problem to my aunt and uncles. My aunt has offered my father that she will help us but only one child come to her and live with them. She will support whatever it needs financial support and educational support. My father opened up to me that offer and he said that he doesn't want us to be apart but one should go with my aunt. And I had taken that opportunity for my other siblings to pursue their school. I had taken the risk for them and I know that I'll be far away from them. For me it is okay to sacrifice my happiness for them in order for them to ease for some financial matters. They will only support only the two of my siblings.
At first I don't want to be far away from them but for the sake of them I'll do it and take the risk. It is very hard when you grow with your family and then in one click or one decision it will change.
First of all, It is so hard to adjust and to live with another family. That time I'd feel that I am all alone every night and day. It is hard to dwell with another community, you'll encounter different people with different moods and behavior. It is difficult to adapt with their nature and everyday routine. It is hard to see also that the family you live with was happy. Everytime I see them, I wish my family was happy as happy as them. That we are whole and not apart. When you live in another house with the person's that you doesn't like the behavior where all you can do is to pretend that you're okay and obey what they say.
Since I was away from my family, Everyday I say to my self that keep strong. And One day it's all gonna be worth it. Since elementary until senior high schoo I have honor or achievement but I don't feel any feeling of being proud to my aunt and uncle. I feel that it's just a trash or nothing for them. What I feel, they are not proud of my achievements. Everytime I felt that I miss my parents who is proud on me, everytime I achieve something. Even though it is only a medal it is a achievement for me. That all of my hardship in studying has paid off.
Tumblr media
One thing that I learned in this Life experiences was Just keep going forward. Not everyone will appreciate you and will be proud on you. Even though there's someone who doesn't appreciate you, don't mind them just follow your dreams and achieve it no matter what happens. There's always a rainbow after the rain and bad days doesn't last. Life will be always a battle between choices either you'll aim for momentary happiness or a long lasting one. Sacrifices are worth it at the end, but it depends on what you will sacrifice and what do you do to achieve a goal. Even though there are many barricades along your way, make a way to overcome it and to keep on getting forward. Always aim for the highest, and all your hard work will be paid of someday. Just believe and survive with the life you are in that you can and someday you'll achieve what you want and all of your bad days will gonna make sense.

Alex Manes’ Military Career
I’m sure this is going to get Jossed the moment the writers get a lightbulb moment, but here is a possible timeline for Alex’s last 10 years.   (Hopefully I can get the formatting to work this time...)
May 2008 -- Alex and Michael start their flirtation.
June 7, 2008 -- Michael/Alex first kiss/first time/wow they work fast.
June 8, 2008 -- Rosa dies.  (The dates are a little screwy here.  I know Carina MacKenzie said that they would fix them, but for now, I’m making an assumption that Max and Liz had their day in the desert on Saturday, June 7 and that Rosa was killed in the early morning hours of the 8th.  A large part of this assumption is based on the fact that neither one of them would skip school in order to finish the project.)
June 9, 2009 -- Alex goes to see a recruiter.  My assumption is that the Monster Sgt marched Alex to the recruitment office and forced him to sign up.  It doesn’t work that way in real life.  He can join at 17 with parental permission, but he can not be forced to join.  This gives him approximately two weeks to go through MEPS as they require a high school diploma to enlist.
June 21, 2008 -- High School Graduation.
June 23, 2008 -- This is a very tight timeline.  If they had a Basic (BMT) slot available, then this is the earliest Alex could leave for BMT.  (I guess he could technically leave on a Sunday…  But he doesn’t have far to travel.)  Feel free to adjust anything by a month or more to fit your own timeline.
June 24, 2008 -- Alex signs in at Lackland AFB, TX for processing into BMT.
Week Zero - Processing Week - This week is all about the basics. You will receive a haircut, get issued your clothes, and learn what your life will be like the following 8 weeks. Basically, this week is an administrative week.
Week One - You start training this week with early wake-ups, workouts, and long days. You will continue a few of the military processing issues and tests (medical/dental). Expect to be tired after long days of military training.
Week Two - You will continue regular workouts and many hours of drill (marching with weapons) as they get tougher than previous weeks and attend a significant number of classes on many topics. From career counseling to weapon handling and maintenance to Air Force History, you will receive a full day of training every day.
Week Three - You receive your service dress uniform complete with an all-weather coat, a lightweight jacket, ties, a flight cap, belt and buckle, and low-quarter shoes. Be prepared to quickly get dressed in and out of all uniforms.
Week Four - Tactical training continues and advances as you will start to learn defensive fighting techniques like cover and concealment, as well as lifesaving skills (advanced first aid). Learning to prevent bleeding and keep an open airway are a couple of the skills you will learn that might save a life.
Week Five - BEAST Week. This week is a challenge both mentally and physically enduring long hours of physical training, combatives, and tactical skills tests. Some will recall this as the most fun week of training. Being physically prepared enables you to enjoy this week of applying skills you have learned the first month of training.
Week Six - Testing Week: You will be tested often during training, but this is the week where the PT test, academic tests, and general military bearing all come into question and an objective grade will be given to recruits. This week will determine your class ranking and awards given at the end of training.
Week Seven - Graduation Week. Welcome to the Air Force.
Week Eight - Airmen's Week: This is the final step before the new Airmen advance to their assigned technical training.
(BMT length was 6.5 weeks and was changed to 8.5 weeks in November of 2008.  Today, they start on Tuesdays and graduate on Thursdays, so I assumed the same for Alex.  I do not know what they lengthened in November to take up 2 more weeks...)
August 14, 2008 -- BMT Graduation   He would be an Airman Basic at this point (E-1).
August 2008 -- Technical training at Keebler AFB, MS.  My assumption is that he signed up as a computer systems guy.  (Currently called Cyber Systems Operations.)  Training is currently 66 days and he would earn college credit towards Informations Systems Technology.
November 2008 -- Graduation from tech school.  In this general vicinity, at least.  The military has a lot of “hurry up and wait” going on.  So, they might have sent him to Keebler and then he was forced to twiddle his thumbs for 2 weeks while he waited for the next class to start.
December 2008 -- First duty station and block leave.  Members of the military usually have 2 blocks of leave a year, each approximately 14 days.  One in the summer and one around the Christmas holidays.  There are also 2 weeks before and after deployment and 10 days whenever you make a move to a new Duty Station (in order travel, find housing if you are not living on base, get your household goods, and settle in a bit).  It works out pretty well for Alex to have finished tech school in November, signed into his next duty station for a couple of weeks, before being sent on leave.
2009 -- First deployment.
February 2009 -- Automatic promotion to Airman (E-2) after six months Time in Grade (TIG) as an Airman Basic.  (Making an assumption that he was not on an accelerated promotion program due to JROTC experience or college credit.)
December 2009 -- Automatic promotion to Airman First Class (E-3) after ten months TIG as an Airman (E-2).
2010 -- TACP training.  390 days at Lackland AFB, TX, Fairchild AFB, WA, and Ft Benning, GA.  Earns credits towards Informations Systems Technology.  (A note here: I assume that TACP training is like Ranger School in when they want people to apply.  The Ranger School instructors are more demanding of officer enrollees, which is why I have Alex going through the TACP Schoolhouse as an enlisted airman.  We know that he is part of TACP because he wears the black beret.  What a TACP unit is doing in Roswell…  That is a completely different question.)
Block I Basic Career Knowledge (30 Days)
Portable radio familiarization, basic career knowledge, and associated publications.
Block II Ground Environment Training (30 Days)
Field training exercise, day and night land navigation, vehicle navigation, convoy training, and small unit tactics. Also including training in bivouac setup, site selection, patrolling methods, and day and night navigation on foot and in a vehicle.
Block III Air Support Coordination/Weapons Systems (25 Days)
Methods and means of requesting close air support, weapons effects and utilization, and other coordination procedures.
United States Air Force Combat Survival School – 3 weeks, Fairchild AFB, Washington
This course teaches basic survival techniques for remote areas using minimal equipment. This includes instruction of principles, procedures, equipment and techniques that help individuals to survive regardless of climatic conditions or unfriendly environments, and return with honor.
United States Army Airborne School** – Basic Parachutist Course – 3 weeks, Fort Benning, Georgia
Students learn the basic parachuting skills required to infiltrate an objective area by static line airdrop. This course includes ground operations week, tower week, and "jump week" when participants make five parachute jumps. Personnel who complete this training are awarded the basic parachutist rating and are allowed to wear the Parachutist Badge.
**Note: Some of these courses are unit dependent and not all students may be selected.
Advanced Training Options Post TACP --
Military Freefall Parachutist Course – 5 weeks – Yuma Proving Ground, AZ.
Static Line Jumpmaster School – 3 weeks – Ft. Benning, GA.
Military Freefall Jumpmaster School – 3 weeks – Yuma Proving Ground, AZ.
Pathfinder School – 3 weeks – Ft. Benning, GA.
Air Assault School – 2 weeks – Various Locations
Ranger School – 61 Days, Ft. Benning, GA.
Special Forces Combat Diver Qualification Course (Special Operations Diver Course) – 7 weeks – Special Forces Underwater Operations School, Key West, FL.
Special Tactics Advanced Skills Course – 12 weeks, Hurlburt Field, FL.
Combat Medic Course – 16 weeks, Fort Sam Houston, TX.
(I have not seen any of these patches on Alex’s uniform.  Granted, the Air Force might have different standards than I am used to and Hollywood always gets it wrong anyway.  I really want to see his dress blues now, preferably with a nice look at his ribbons.)
Oh, God...  As an aside, I still cringe over the documentation for Static Line Jumpmaster School.  Grammar?  What grammar? The hubby had to recite it word for word despite the fact that it was WRONG WRONG WRONG!  All military doumentation is the same, BTW.
December 2010 - Repeal of DADT signed into law.
2011 -- Second duty station and second deployment, now part of TACP.  Cam mentions that he deployed with Air Expeditionary Groups (AEGs), so he probably was not attached to another branch.  So far the characters have only mentioned Baghdad and Iraq.  With that being the case, the two AEGs that operate out of that area are:
321st AEG
506 AEG
August 2011 -- Automatic promotion to Senior Airman (E-4) after 36 months Time in Service (TIS) with 20 months TIG, or 28 months TIG, whichever occurs first.
September 20, 2011 -- DADT officially ends.
2012 -- Finishes his college degree in Informations Systems Technology (A degree is a requirement to becoming an officer.  He could have taken classes through an online university.  There are many who cater to the military.  He would have used his GI Bill to pay for it.)
Feb 2012 -- Possible promotion to Staff Sergeant (E-5)  (He probably also attends the NCO Academy, which has 10 locations worldwide.  It is a 1 month long leadership course for E-5 and E-6.)
June 2012 -- Officer Training School (OTS), Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL.   An 8 week course to become a commissioned officer from prior enlistment.  (This is assuming that Alex has been a captain for 1 year when the series starts.  He actually could have been one for much longer, as much as 6 years.  Feel free to dismiss the possible promotion to Staff Sgt and adjust the dates forward.)
August 2014 -- Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant (O-1E) upon graduation from OTS.  I assume that he has transitioned to be a Cyberspace Operations Officer.  (As per the note below, he could have transitioned to be Security Forces.)
March 2015 -- Promotion to 1st Lieutenant (O-2E) after 18 months TIG.
June 26, 2015 -- Supreme Court ruled for gay marriage.
2017 -- 3rd Deployment.  I assume he was sent home early due to the injury.
(If anyone is interested, Alex’s next of kin would have recieved a phone call that Alex was hurt.  They only send an officer and Chaplain if the airman has died, no matter how severe the injury is.  At this point, the military has realized how BAD it is for soldiers to have access to the outside world when something goes wrong.  His AEG would have been put on Blackout status until next of kin had been notified.  That means no phone calls, no social media, no facetime.  Trust me, finding out that a spouse found out that his or her soldier has been injured via people posting “Pray for X’s family” was NOT a fun time for anyone.)
March 2017 -- Promotion to Captain (O-3E) after 24 months TIG.
May 31, 2018 -- The beginning of Roswell, New Mexico.
Notes:
This is a possible timeline.  By no means should you take it as canon.  I could be completely wrong about his career path.  He could have done Cryptologic Language Analyst (he did say he was a code breaker), but that training is 8-16 months long.  Plus, I thought Cyber Systems made more sense for the “hacker” portion.
It also assumes that he was a perfectly “average” airman.  It is possible that he did things like went before Airman of the Quarter boards for his wing, and then Airman of the Year boards if he got Airman of the Quarter.  Achieving this equals promotion points.  He could have been Promoted to Staff Sergeant 6 months early in an “in-house” promotion board if he was considered an outstanding Airman.
He could have gone to TACP right out of Basic (possibly signed up with a TACP contract).  He could have gone to OTS earlier.  He could have deployed at different times (as long as you stick to the 1 year deployed/1 year off schedule, you can have him deploy at any time after Tech School).
I think the only career option that does not work is the Air Force Academy.  There’s no way that he could have entered right after high school without having been accepted beforehand.  You need things like a recommendation from a member of Congress to enter.
There are options for Enlisted to join the Academy, which is a year of preparing his packet and then 4 years at the Academy if he is accepted.  Plus, possibly a 10 month prep school.  I don’t see how he could have had 3 deployments on that timeline.  I mean…  I guess it’s possible…  It would be tight, though...
That would be…
2008 - Enlist
2009 - Tech School/TACP
2010 - Deploy/Prepare the Academy Packet
2011-15 - Academy (O-1)
2016- Deploy
2017 - No deployments (Promotion to O-2)
2018 - Deploy
2018 - Roswell, NM.
2019 - Promotion to O-3
So, it doesn’t actually work, but for fic purposes, you could flub it.

@ Rahjin pointed out that Alex’s beret has flashing for Security Forces, which made me take a better look at his Occupational Badge, which is aaaallllmmmooossttt the Security Forces Occupational Badge.  Which means that I was wrong about the TACP training (probably?  The beret still looks black and not blue to me.  But it HAS to be blue to have the Security Forces flashing...).
The thing is, Security Forces is sort of an all-purpose catch all for Airmen.  A lot are Military Police and base security, but they also “back fill” Marine and Army mission tasks.  And none of that makes sense for “code breaker” and “hacker”.
(Also, the Wiki on Security Forces says that as of 2011, the Air Force does 6 months on/ 6 months off deployments, which does not make sense for Alex having only deployed 3 times unless there was a LOT of additional training he was Voluntold for.  And was information I could NOT find before.  Grrr.)
But, here’s the Air Force’s official page about Security Forces careers.
And the Wiki about Security Forces.
He could have transitioned to Security Forces out of OTS.  I knew of a few officers who were Infantry and transitioned into Mech after they became officers.
So...  It is possible that he did Cyber as enlisted and Security Forces as an officer.  And that I am completely wrong about TACP.  Until it is confirmed in canon, it is all speculation anyway...
