thinking about "it's unreasonable to assume that a character knows what genre they're in" and how in series 1-3, Merlin (and the audience) thinks that he's in a fantasy adventure comedy. no one realises that he's in a tragedy until it's too late.

Tamlin is the one who has always done everything he can do to stop injustice. Protecting mortals, always accepting fae from other court in his land, trying his damnedest to find a way to break the curse instead of stealing a mortal. He has always dreamed of a safer and more just world and has always tried to make that come true. Even after loosing so much he always did whats right and true in the end.

but hes doomed by the narrative. His good deeds and genuine soul over shadowed by the biases of the narrator. Hes the age old tragedy of wanting to be the best he can and do the best he can.

design-wise, i think catnap is very good and spooky. i liked the presence he had in the game.

and i feel kinda bad for him, given his lore. however, while he inspires a bit more empathy as an enemy than the other monsters before him, he's still willing to kill others for disobedience (and for fun). i think he may have started out sympathetic, but became more and more zealous and uncaring as time went on.

a pretty cool enemy, all things considered.

"The Last Goodbye" Pippin animatic! The fact that Billy Boyd sings The Last Goodbye always makes it feel like a 'missing Pippin song' to me. The line "I saw the light fade from the sky" always reminds me of the moment in Gondor where Pippin sees the stars vanish behind the clouds of Mordor. This animatic is also directly based on/is a study of shots in ROTK-- so if you're really Deep Into It you might be able to pick out exactly what specific scenes I'm referencing. I may continue drawing out the full song, but I've had this opening bit in my head very vividly for a while.
