Story - transcripts from Designer’s Reflection
Chapter 1 - Elf Maiden
Chapter 2 - Voyage Encounter
Chapter 3 - Tears of Pearl
Chapter 4 - Deep Sea Fairy Tale
Story - summarized
Dorea is the only Water Elf fascinated by humans and the surface. When she finds time, she slips away to watch a ship that came nearby. The researchers don’t notice her - except for one, with vivid blue eyes. Dorea is fascinated by “Mr. Blue Eyes.” She surfaces every day to get a glimpse of the curious human.
Meanwhile, the human researcher DeVit is startled to see a Water Elf. He only heard about them from legends. He sketches the Elf every chance he gets. He’s dazzled by her ethereal form. He posts his pictures in the window of his cabin.
Finally, Dorea comes up with a plan to see Mr. Blue Eyes once. At a party, she drugs the guards and steals a precious pearl. Once she breaks the surface, she uses the pearl to give her a human form and a lovely dress with pearls. She comes onboard the ship.
DeVit is so happy to see her. They take in the moment - right before a storm tosses the ocean. The chief of Dorea’s clan noticed the pearl’s disappearance.
The researchers jump ship and barely make it to safety. Dorea rescues DeVit from the sea and drags him ashore. As she weeps, her tears turn into pearls. The chief’s voice demands Dorea return to the ocean, or DeVit will perish. Dorea takes the tear-pearls and makes a necklace. She leaves it with DeVit before turning back.
Years later, DeVit’s hometown of Sirenberg thrives on his fairy tales. The Water Elf series remains the most popular. Everyone knows that DeVit based the tales off of his own experiences - but no one knows how it truly ends. All they heard was that he went sailing one day far into the ocean and never came back.
Connections
-You first meet the Water Elves in Mercury’s Reflection for Startide Dream.
-DeVit says that he was here on a research expedition and also that they were to locate resources. In Startide Dream, Mercury made a deal with the Water Elf King for safe passage for his ships as they dredged resources from the ocean.
-Years after their encounter, Dorea submits the pearl dress to the Wintermount Designer’s Tea Party. We attend the Tea Party in the Reflections for Mercury’s and Qin Yi’s wedding dresses and Helz’ Romantic Visit.
Fun Facts
-Dorea says that her chief has a special pearl. It’s possible that each Elf clan leader, plus the king, possess special gems with powers tied to the ocean.
-It’s possible that DeVit not only saw Dorea again, but may have found a way to be with her forever. He was an old human, but with the ocean gems, there could have been a way to turn him into a Water Elf.
-”Siren” is another word for “mermaid.”

GOTHAM: Foundations of Decay
Lathyrus Odoratus
Word count: 2.7k
Gorou’s nose twitched as the boat dived into the sea, splashing saltwater directly into his line of vision. He sneezed, backing away from the railing of the ship before sighing, deep in thought. He despised boats; the ocean’s scent, the boat’s tossing, and the fact they were in the middle of nowhere almost threw the general into a crisis. He liked land, firm ground that only shook every so often, and the feeling of grass tickling his feet. However, putting up with it was a must as the shrine maiden of Watatsumi Island herself requested General Gorou to partake in this expedition.
Ever since the Raiden Shogun opened up Inazuma’s borders, the entire nation was scrambling, trying to expand their networks as fast as possible. Unfortunately, Watatsumi Island had been a little late on the memo. To gain relations for trade quickly, she had sent her most trusted warriors to act as diplomats in every corner of Teyvat. It was a race, one that required all personnel on deck including the General.
However, the General’s mission was a little more special. It’s no secret that Watatsumi island’s ecosystem has not been the most bountiful in recent years. Their region was not prosperous when it came to crops, and Kokomi was forced to outsource for a hefty sum. It had greatly reduced the island's treasury to nothing, and something had to be done about it.
Gorou and Kokomi had spent numerous nights debating on solutions for this issue, frustratingly, neither of them had much knowledge in agriculture. It was then decided that they would find someone who does, preferably someone with a prestigious scholarly backing. Going forward, the plan was that Gorou would be sent out to Sumeru and gain an audience with the Archon.
Sumeru was something Gorou knew very little about, growing up stuck inside the closed borders of Inazuma. Frankly, he did not care for the nation whatsoever. The rumours he had heard of the so-called academy that only enrolled the best of the best left a bitter taste in his mouth. In all honesty, he wanted nothing to do with the place, but Kokomi had spoken, and thus he had a job to do.
Gorou had spent the next few days sleepless on the boat, tossing and turning in his little hammock as the waves churned and shook the vessel violently. The Raiden Shogun approved this voyage, lessening the lighting along the course; however, the waves still felt as ruthless as ever. The instant the boats touched the docks of Liyue, Gorou jumped out, his tail wagging at the speed of light as his feet planted onto solid ground. From here on out, he would have to walk to Sumeru, but he was okay with that. As long as he never had to set foot on another boat again. In his moment of pure unadulterated joy, he completely forgot that the return journey would also require a boat.
Gorou walked through the stalls near the dock, the smell of fresh seafood tempting his nostrils and making him nostalgic for home. While walking, he could not help but notice the number of folks staring unabashedly at his ears and tail. He knew animal folk were not as common in Liyue, especially those that descended from dogs and other such quadrupeds. Still, he did not think of himself to be much of an attraction. His tail flickered in annoyance, wanting to go about his day unnoticed. After such a horrible boat ride, it was only common courtesy to let him go about in peace. The bad luck he was experiencing now was only a premonition for what was to come.
The journey to Sumeru wasn’t anything special. A few odd encounters with some people, a stay at the Wangshu Inn, and strolling around in asweltering heat. The hardest part was getting permission to cross the Chasm, an area so closed off that not even the Shuumatsuban could navigate their way in without getting caught. It took only a total idiot (Itto) to get through unnoticed (again, Itto). As much as Gorou tolerated the tall Oni, the man could only do so much without causing a whole diplomatic incident.
Even with the hassle of getting approved by the Liyue Qixing, the journey through the chasm was not all that bad. They had escorts, an eccentric woman named Yelan, and a handful of Millelith. Although Gorou and the few soldiers from Watatsumi Island that came with him were fully capable of defending themselves, it still felt nice to have a little extra security. Especially since this was foreign territory for all of them.
They had only encountered a few hilichurls, and with the entire party at his side, taking them out was barely a sweat. Drawing back the string of the bow and letting his arrow catch flight was almost therapeutic, a blissful respite from the harsh journey they had embarked on. Yelan had left them as soon as the party crossed the chasm, and from there on out, they were alone.
In all honesty there was nothing special about the rest of Sumeru. The area was surrounded by dense rainforest, and Gorou wanted nothing more than to leave the site as fast as possible. The humidity was enough for his fur to puff up; he could feel it shedding from the heat that he was so unused to.
Gorou, at that point, picked up the pace, wanting to cover as much ground as possible before the sun went over the horizon. Thankfully, they did not have to wait long as the city of Sumeru finally appeared before them.
The first thing Gorou noticed was two prodigious statues, with lances the size of at least 4 average humans, greeting them outside the main entrance. Gorou looked up. The entirety of Sumeru was interwoven from a great tree, the trunk solid and large enough to keep the entire city afloat. The canine warrior was so breath taken by the sight he barely noticed the statues starting to move. As soon as the party came closer, the two statues guarding crossed their lances.
The sudden change in the pose was enough to snap Gorou out of whatever trance the beautiful city had put him under. Then, oddly enough, one of the statues opened its mouth, and from it came a deep voice that shook the very ground they stood on.
“What is your reason for coming to Sumeru, Travelers?”
It looked down at them, the “eyes” of the golem gleamed a bright red. Gorou took a step forward, keeping his arms open to signify that he was not a threat.
“My name is Gorou. I was sent here by the Divine Priestess Sangonomiya Kokomi of Watatsumi Island for diplomatic purposes. Lesser Lord Kusanali should have been informed of our arrival.” Gorou spoke, and the golem paused again before opening its stone jaws.
“Kusanali will be waiting for you at dusk in approximately 2 days. Enjoy your stay before then.” The statue straightened back into position, uncrossing its lances and permitting the envoy to journey through the gates.
It took a minute for Gorou to actually go inside Sumeru, as he was still in awe of how advanced the city was. It was unlike anything they’d ever used before. To utilize technology in such a fashion was something that could only be attributed to the fallen kingdom of Khaneri’ah.
Gorou took a breath and stepped through the entrance. The city looked like what every city does; chalk filled with bustling vendor stalls, children causing havoc and mayhem, soldiers marching around maintaining peace, and loudly gossiping mothers.
The general architecture also took the group by surprise, as everything was a part of the tree. Buildings were built high into the branches, walkways were constructed out of vines, and the foliage provided by the leaves gave the city natural shade.
It was as if Dendro was used to construct everything. It was fitting.
Regardless of the breathtaking site, Gorou wanted nothing more than to find the nearest inn and brush out his fur. Humidity was still a bit of a bitch. But before he could, one of his soldiers spoke up.
“Hey, General Gorou…” Ueno started. He was a member of Swordfish, a strong and righteous warrior to have at his side. Gorou turned his head towards the captain, indicating for him to continue.
“Is it alright if we stop… for food?” Ueno said meekly, his stomach trembling with the hunger that wrecked it.
Gorou stared at him for a few seconds. They had nothing besides stale bread and jerky for days, so with a warm smile, he agreed. His tail could wait a few more hours.
“Find a place to eat at. My treat.” He said. With those words it was like the floodgates of hell opened. His team paraded up and down the roads of Sumeru, pointing out random restaurants before begging for the opportunity to dine.
Fortunately for them, Gorou could not resist the temptation of good food either and finally settled on a small stand named Alsham’s Kitchen. Gorou and the rest of his party were unfamiliar with the food being offered; however, the owner was friendly enough to recommend something to eat.
Soon enough, Kebabs filled their sight, and Gorou had his first taste of real freshly cooked meat in days. It was delectable, the spices being unlike anything typical in Inazuma cuisine. He was focused on the meal; he didn’t notice at all when a man took the open seat next to him.
Gorou heard his voice first, it was a deep timbre that the General could feel shaking his bones. Detached would be the best way to describe it, a voice that sounds warm but feels cold. Gorou swallowed the morsel of meat in his mouth and turned his head to stare at the man.
His eyes immediately focused on his hands, sleek and long but filled with calluses. As if whoever owned this hand was just as deadly with a pen as with a sword. Two rings clacked noisily against the stall, and Gorou finally looked up to see the face of the man who was speaking.
To call this man beautiful would be an understatement. He was ethereal almost, radiating energy on par with the Raiden Shogun herself. It was as if he descended straight from Celestia to have dinner at this stall.
Gorou has had his fair share of staring at gorgeous men, as the head of the Kamisato Household was very easy on the eyes, but never did he once imagine meeting a man like this. He held himself like an archon, sitting tall with fluorescent green eyes that could peer into your mind. They almost glowed and, curiously enough, were nearly the exact same shade of green as the Dendro vision resting on his shoulder.
Gorou had to physically pull himself from staring at the man, lest he was caught in the act. What Gorou didn’t know, however, was that he was undoubtedly caught red handed. Yet, the man in question paid no heed and started on his own meal.
Following the man’s example, Gorou also returned to feast on the luxurious arrangement of foods in front of him. Naturally, he wanted to enjoy it as much as possible, with or without the gorgeous man who sat next to him.
Nevertheless, it seemed like Gorou’s luck had hit rock bottom. Ueno, too busy looking at all the food and drooling over every single item, had unknowingly knocked over a pitcher filled with water in his haste to grab food. Unfortunately, the recipient of said water was the General, who could not seem to find a break.
Gorou froze in shock, feeling the cold liquid egregiously drip all over his uniform and fur. He stood up, allowing the water to cascade further along his body.
“Ueno…” The General said, and if he weren’t so embarrassed he might have paid attention to his surroundings. The entire market place has come to a standstill, staring at the wet foreigner who could barely keep his temper straight.
“I oh oh my god I- Im so sorry wait just wait-” Ueno started moving rapidly to find anything he could use to help dry the general.
“Does anyone have a towel!” Ueno continued looking at the bystanders for help. At his words a little girl stepped up, smiling politely.
“No! But I have an Anemo vision!” Quickly, without any input from the General, the girl turned towards Gorou and blasted him with her vision. His fur puffed outwards, shedding easily and going in every possible direction. This included onto the man who was still seated next to him.
Gorou’s jaw dropped in shock, his hair and tail were undoubtedly a disorderly mess, and so was basically everything around him. Shiba fur clung onto the surface of not only their food but onto clothes and strangers as well.
He was about to apologize, even though none of this was his fault, but before he could he heard five loud consecutive sneezes coming from next to him.The sneezes were so violently loud that everyone in the vicinity kept their gazes raptured onto the scene. Gorou turned to see the handsome man he was admiring earlier, lightly sniffing his nose.
The man in question took a minute to compose himself, retrieving a handkerchief seemingly out of thin air and delicately blowing his nose. However, the eyes of the common people were still locked onto the group, shocked at what had happened. But why? It was just a sneezing fit; why would the people be so surprised? It was as if this man scared them.
“Apologies, I have…severe allergic reactions to mutts.” A cold glare was thrown in Gorou’s direction, and the General went rigid. His tail puffed up even more at the man’s words, annoyed and slightly frightened at his demeanor.
Gorou flushed red in embarrassment. His day could not possibly get any worse.
With that, the man got up and left. Not even sparing another glance towards the General and his half eaten food (not that Gorou could blame him, his food was currently covered in fur).
Gorou slumped down into his seat, groaning loudly and slamming his head onto the table. It was as if a spell was broken, and all the bystanders stopped watching the spectacle that was Gorou and continued on with their lives.
Gorou’s ears twitched, picking up the conversations around him. He really hoped they weren’t making fun of him.
“Well, isn’t he quite handsome?” An old lady said, her voice hushed as if she did not want anyone to overhear.
Unless the lady was calling Gorou handsome (which she probably wasn’t, not after what just happened) then Gorou presumed the hot topic among the two gossips was the stranger with the allergies. “Quite terrifying as well. This is the first time I’ve seen the man in person. Lesser Lord Kusanali always liked to keep herself and her hand hidden,” the other lady partaking in the conversation spoke, her voice dropping into a whisper.
“Ah, the Young Al-Haitham… The right hand of the Archon. Why you’re right! I’ve never seen him around these parts of Sumeru! Perchance, is he here to fulfil a quest given to him by our Lesser Lord?” Questioned the elder with a hum.
Gorou silently wondered why someone of such status was a sight to see. If he was someone with that role, shouldn’t he be more active everywhere, assisting the common folk with their issues? Especially with the current situation Sumeru is in. Not only is the environment dangerous and suspicious in a way, but its people also harbour strange behaviour. Er, now that he thought of it, maybe the eccentricities of this “Hand” aren’t as unusual as he assumed.
Never mind that, thought Gorou with a shake. Weird or not, he wasn’t brought here to question their traditions. Lady Kokomi would disapprove of his behavior.
Ueno lightly tapped on his shoulder, signalling they should get going after Koutoku paid the bill. They gave their thanks to the chef and left the stall.
The rest of the time passed in Sumeru was relatively uneventful, mostly exploring the city and trying to accumulate to its culture as fast as possible.
Gorou threw himself into studying in the short few days he was there. It would not reflect well on Kokomi if her diplomat was not respectful of their traditions. He had a court to impress, and a contract to secure.

7 / ? - Autumn
Opalheart: Monday 1st
The metal the Chemist brought from the cablecar, it is tempered in a way I have never seen. It is layered and rolled against the temperature, keeping much of it’s structure despite the many years of ruin.
Runeheart is taking a look at the structure. The Chemist will be back soon to tell us what type of metal this could be. The blueprints have been laid, we are now experimenting with the metallurgy.
It seems we need to make a silver-copper alloy and layer with iron sheet to resist the cold. It will be extremely difficult to do, but we can try.
Reyner: Wednesday 3rd
I have been worried about my health for a while. I am starting to feel flush and feverish. My heart races and drops and I feel breathless. Runeheart is once more ready to summon the Ambassadors and I cannot refuse like before.
I have been playing the flute more. I never before took the time to enjoy playing. This slower work pace is doing wonders for my body. And - my mind feels so much sharper! If only this sickness would leave me.
Leah is excited by the prospect of a glacier - new areas, new creatures to catalogue and samples to be collected.
Moira: Friday 6th
I am entranced by the way this virus adapts. It does not respond well to toxins. It does not metabolise with heat applied. However, these are useless facts. We cannot apply the amount of heat needed to a tissue without broiling it. We cannot heat the virus out of a body.
My next avenue will be isolating symptoms and attempting to create an antiviral solution. Let us hope.
The antiviral failed. It did nothing. I shall up the concentrations next time.
Forrest: Saturday 7th
We spent a whole afternoon fitting the last mechanisms of the cable car. Opalheart and Leah helped carry gear through the valley.
They worked by lamplight when the sun disappeared, and it was not until early into the night that we tried the first run of the mechanisms.
Leah brought a chemical concoction that worked as an incredible propellant. We managed to service the cablecar and sent a maiden voyage across that cavernous ravine between the glacier ridges.
Xiao: Tuesday 9th
The community orders came through today and the Town Hall is overloaded. Dev is run off his poor feet sorting parcels.
There is a large stack of journals and documents that came from the MA. I need to make sure they get delivered to the Potion House, but there is just so much to organise. Myer thinks we should host the Harvest Fair again for the first time since the disaster. He thinks we should celebrate the revival of the forests of Moonbury.
I agree with him, of course, but I dislike the idea that I am the one with sole responsibility for logistics. I do understand it is my job ... but I wish to live like the others do. I wish to have time in my days for love and quiet and passion and tiredness. I want to be weary with my friends, my lover, and not to go home in solitude once more.
Herbalist: Thursday 11th
The expedition is planned. Forrest outlined his list of essentials, and we trust he has the right plan in place. Leah is in charge of sample collections and data recording and the rangers have agreed to ensure she is escorted on the days they are gone. They leave in the morning.
I finally have the time to sit and dig through these stacks of records from Moira & Collin. Xiao seemed worldweary when I saw him, I believe I shall have to note to call upon him when I have time.
Reyner is playing flute in the parlour again, and he continues to visit me when he is not working. I remind him he can go, he owes me nothing, and yet he comes back constantly to bring me herbal brews and handfuls of wildflowers. Yesterday, when he could not be here, he left a bag of mooncloves on the doorstep. I fear he will consume me, and my feeble heart without resistance.

In the footsteps of the Incan ancestors
Tumblr media
Peruvian children in traditional clothing
Peru means “land of abundance”(in Aymara language) and that is a perfectly chosen word to describe this rich, diverse and colourful country. It is the third largest country in South America after Brazil and Argentina.
Peru has big amounts of mineral, agricultural and marine resources that have long served as its economic foundation.
The cold Peruvian current where upwelling brings abundant nutrients to the water surface there the beneficial effects of the sunlight results in plankton growth, which make these waters one of the world's greatest fishing grounds.
In spite of Peru's tropical location in the Southern Hemisphere it has enormous differences in climate, economical activities and ways of life.Peru is normally divided into three main geographic zones. The Andean highlands, the arid coastline and the largely unpopulated Peruvian Amazon, the rainforest.
This large geographical diversity gives Peru one of the greatest biodiversities in the world. In the upcoming section we will follow the footsteps of the Peruvian forefathers to discover more about this great and colourful country.
First footstep:👣
Our first footstep is the pre Incan culture.
The civilization “Caral” marks the beginning of the Peruvian, as well as the rest of the American continent’s history.
It is estimated to be as old as 5000 years, making it contemporary with the civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China and India.
Nevertheless, without leaving much trace of evidence of its existence the caral civilization suddenly disappeared and was replaced by the “Chavin” civilization.
In that way the history kept repeating itself and civilization followed civilization, some disappeared by themselves others were conquered by stronger ones.
Tumblr media
Nasca Lines, Peru
Second Footstep:👣👣
Our second footstep is the Nazca. The Nazcas predated the Incas by as much as 2000 years, in other words 800 B.C and are most famous for having drawn the Nazca lines.
These are huge drawings representing a hummingbird, spider, fish, condor, heron, monkey, lizard, cat, dog and a human or some of the lines are just lines. By making shallow incisions in the desert floor, removing stones and leaving differently coloured dirt exposed, the lines they drew have been preserved during thousands of years due to the extreme environmental circumstances that have helped to preserve them.
The purpose of the lines is unclear but experts presume their purposes are religious.
Tumblr media
Lake Titicaca, Peru
Third Footstep:👣👣👣
The third footstep is Lake Titicaca. This important lake has a maximum depth of 280 meters and is shared by Peru and Bolivia and is situated high up in the Andes at 3.812 metres. It is the world's highest navigable lake and it is said to be the birthplace of the Incas. The waters of lake Titicaca are famously still and brightly reflexive.
This fresh water lake, that also is one of South America’s largest lakes, is shaped as a puma, herefrom its name Titicaca meaning puma in Aymara language. Today we can see floating villages made of reeds on the lake, where the Uros people live. They rely on fishing and tourism for survival.
We also find protected aquatic wildlife by the lake, special and unique are the giant frogs.
Tumblr media
Statue of Pachacutec, Aguas Calientes, Peru
Fourth Footstep:👣👣👣👣
The forth footstep are the Incas.
The Incan Empire was the last chapter of thousands of years of Andean civilization directly preceded by two other large scale Empires, the Tiwanaku 300-1100 A.C in the lake Titicaca region and the Wari or Huari 600-1100 A.C near the city of Ayacucho.
As said earlier the Incan civilization was born by the shores of lake Titicaca and grew to become an Empire, at the time known as “realm of the four parts”. It was the largest Empire in pre-Columbian America.
No monetary currency was used in the Incan Empire but exchange of goods and taxes consisted of a labour obligation of a person to the Empire. Another interesting fact is that they used knotted strings or so called “ quipus” for record keeping and written communication.
The Incas rose to power in the early 13th century and their last stronghold was conquered in 1572 by Spanish conquerors.
Ruins of the Empire can be found across Peru today, some of which are hidden by the rainforest's intense vegetation.
Tumblr media
Machu Picchu, Peru
Fifth Footstep:👣👣👣👣👣
One of these ruins and our fifth footstep is Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu the city in the clouds.
Machu Picchu is one of the only Inca towns to have survived the Spanish conquest.
Believed to have been built in the 1400’s Machu Picchu got the nickname “the lost city of the Incas” because it is said that the Spanish never set foot there.
Because of its position up of two fault lines it experiences frequent earthquakes but thanks to the combination of its intelligent design and sturdy building materials it has survived through time.
There are 150 buildings in this old site and they vary from temples to bathhouses.
Without doubt one of the most impressive architectural features of Machu Picchu is the renowned staircase with 100 steps that have been carved out of one single piece of stone.
On top of that and as far as we know the Incas didn’t have any wheels thus it had to have been hauled to the summit by hand or carved out of the mountain itself.
Machu Picchu translated from Quechua means “old mountain “or “old peak” and it was cleverly built to withstand earthquakes and to avoid landslides. Water collecting systems were built under the buildings inside the mountains.
These systems collected water in drainage basins and the water was later redistributed throughout Machu Picchu and surroundings.
Roads leading to and from Machu Picchu were connected to the Empire’s transport system including paths, bridges and mountain tracks that stretched all over Peru.
Tumblr media
Rainbow Mountains
Sixths Footstep:👣👣👣👣👣👣
Even though our sixth footstep doesn’t involve the country’s history it is a remarkably beautiful footstep.
The rainbow mountains.
The colour of these mountains resembles that of a rainbow, here from the name, they are also called “Montaña de siete colores” (the seven coloured mountain). It is situated in the Andean mountain chain at 5.200 meters above sea level.
These beautifully multicoloured mountains with tones of turquoise, lavender, gold, terracotta and red, contain 14 different colours in total. The mountains have got their colours from weathering and mineralogy. The dissimilar colouration developed due to different environmental conditions and mineralogy when the sediment was originally deposited and later día genetically altered. The temperature here is 0 degrees celcius at night. It is one of the world’s most amazing natural wonders!
Tumblr media
Chan Chan, Peru
Seventh Footstep:👣👣👣👣👣👣👣
The seventh and last footstep is a combination of some small, scattered and interesting locations.
Framed by three volcanoes and built primarily from white volcanic stones, Arequipa is one of Peru’s most charming colonial cities.
It is here that we find “Santuarios Andinos “ , a small museum with a grisly secret, the mummified remains of the young victims offered as human sacrifices in the peak overlooking the city.
The 550 years old “ice maiden “ Juanita is the best preserved of the mummies.
Even though the south of Peru is a land of Misty volcanoes here we also find one of the world's deepest canyons “Colca” with a depth of 3.250 meters, where mighty condors live. The tribe”los collaguas” who also lived here in the high part of the canyon, used to bury their dead by digging a hole along the steep rocky canyon and marking it with red paint. Faint red stains can still be found today when driving along the canyon on the roads on the tops of the mountains.
In the northern parts of Peru where the Moche civilization had its stronghold around 300 A.D, we find the Lord of Sipán (señor de Sipán). His remains were found not too long ago as the first of a group of mummies found at Huaca Rajada, Sipán.
Lord of Sipán was 35-45 years old when he died but it is his treasures that amazed the world as most of his ornaments were either gold, silver, bronze or semi precious stones.
The Incan bath houses are situated in Cajamarca, it is centred on a spa which uses thermal spring water with medical and therapeutic benefits.
It is said to have been the favourite place of the Incan Lord Atawallpa.
Another remarkable location is the Chanchan cultures sand houses in the capital of the Chimu kingdom, they are from the 15th century and still standing today.
Tumblr media
Gold Treasures
Conclusion:
Having followed the footsteps, we have reached the end of our mountain trail. This marks the finish line of our journey in Peru leaving us with the conclusion.
Peru, as the rest of Latin America, are rich and abundant countries. They are also known for centuries to have been rich in precious metals such as gold and silver.
It is not difficult to imagine where the rumours of “ El dorado” come from.
Whether it is imaginary, based on legends or somewhat truth based.
One can ask himself if there was nothing else behind Columbus' voyage to the “ new world”.
Al khashkhash ibn Said ibn Aswad , an Andalusian citizen from Còrdoba, traveled with a group of friends by ship and crossed the “sea of darkness”(that’s what the Arabs used to call the Atlantic Ocean). On his return in 889 A.C he shared his stories about what he saw and the people he met.
Imam al Shabi, wrote in one of his books 600 A.C about a land behind al Andalus, as far away from there as “we” are from al Andalus.
In any case, they were not the only ones to have discovered the”big land”.
According to the Arabs the Africans, to be more precise the Malians, also traveled to Latin America, they as well as the Arabs went to the Americas in pre-Columbian times.
Mali was one of the richest and most developed countries in Africa in the 14th century.
Could Columbus have been so confused or misinformed or was it a “cover up expedition” as an excuse to conquer and plunder “the big land”???

10 Times When History Repeated Itself but No One Realized It
Scientists say that history goes in circles. So the events we observe now, have already appeared in the past and are likely to come up in the future. This theory is known as historical recurrence.
1. Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations
Tumblr media
Even though there is almost a century between the 2 crimes (1865 and 1963), scientists and others interested in this have found a number of similarities. Both presidents were killed by a gunshot to the head. The killings were in public, for Lincoln it happened in the Ford Theatre and for Kennedy it happened in a car. Interestingly, Kennedy took his last trip in a Lincoln limousine.
Both shootings happened on a Friday. Both killings are believed to have had a political undertone. In both cases the alleged criminal (a solo gunman) was caught and their name was released. The conspiracy theories around these 2 assassinations never stop growing and developing.
2. 2 remarkable Queens, Victoria and Elizabeth II
Tumblr media
The British often compare these 2 queens. The first similarity is their remarkably long reign. Victoria ruled for over 63 years and was the longest reigning British monarch before September 2015, when Elizabeth II broke her record. Despite their long reign, both ladies are known for their interest in modern technologies.
Both become queens at an early age, Victoria 18 and Elizabeth 25. Both were happily married for a long time and both had more than one child. They are said to have been strict mothers and the actual heads of their families.
Both queens were once attacked by a gunman during a ride near Buckingham palace. And on a lighter note, both queens absolutely enjoy the love and respect of their nation.
3. Women warriors, Joan of Arc and Emilia Plater
Tumblr media
These 2 young ladies led parts of their national armies and fought the enemy for the independence of their motherlands. Joan of Arc was a hero of the French struggle against the British empire in the 1420s. Emilia Plater led Polish troops against the Russian Empire during the uprising of 1830.
Both women were first rejected by army officials and had to try hard to get in the military. Both came from noble, but not super-rich families. Both wore male clothes to be an active part of the fighting. Also, both were an important motivating role for troops and were considered a symbol of the rebellion.
Unfortunately, both heroines died young. They have been commemorated by their nations and are even remembered today.
4. Josef Stalin and Genghis Khan
Tumblr media
These 2 well-known men ruled the largest countries of their times, the USSR and the Mongol Kingdom. Both Josef Stalin and Genghis Khan were known for their cruelty and at the same time initiated significant reforms in their countries. Under Kahn’s rule the territories of the Mongol empire imposed a legal code (for the very first time), named Yassa.
Their personal life holds a number of similarities as well. Both spent their childhood in poverty and experienced the early death of their father. Both men took a pseudonym, describing their specific features: Stalin meaning “man of steel and Genghis Khan meaning “the great ruler.” Both lived a long life, more than 60 years, and were married several times.
Finally, the death of both rulers are full of rumors, mysteries, and conspiracy theories.
5. Napoleon and Charles XIV John of Sweden
Tumblr media
If you consider someone an inspiration, you might try repeating their life story. Jean Bernadotte was born to a middle-class family and reached his top career point through army service. At the beginning, he was a fan of another talented military man, Napoleon Bonaparte, who was also self-made. Later on they both became friends for a while.
Both men reached top governmental positions without being royal by birth or blood. Napoleon became the French emperor after a revolution. Bernadotte was adopted by a Swedish king and ended up Charles XIV John, a king of Sweden. Both rulers introduced important reforms and changes in their countries and started a new dynasty.
6. The Titanic and The Vasa tragedies
Tumblr media
Many people around the world recall the Titanic as a ship that sank during her maiden voyage. However, if they are Swedish, they’d definitely remember the Vasa. The fact that they sank is only one of a number of similarities between these 2 catastrophes.
In both cases the sinking was allegedly caused by construction issues. The issues were believed to have been because of the ships’ modernity and size. Also, both ships sank in good weather conditions and the deaths of the passengers were caused by the lack of safety boats and a poorly organized rescue process.
By the way, both ships were filled with very festive passengers who were relaxed and celebrating and both tragedies were a huge shock as there was so much excitement centered around these ships.
7. The Great Depression and The Great Recession
Tumblr media
The Great Depression and the Great Recession are the 2 biggest economic downfalls of their time. Both crises began in the U.S. and later spread to the rest of the world. They caused a great number of problems in different spheres internationally (like the tension between Greece and the EU, or the rise of the Nazi regime).
In the 1920s stock market imploded due to the massive sales of overpriced shares which caused the Great Depression in 1929. The Great Recession is attributed to the high-risk loan (aka, mortgage) crisis. The Depression happened so long ago that there has been more than enough time to analyze it. Yet historians and economists alike are still asking new questions.
The study of the Great Recession is ongoing and will need much more time to be properly analyzed.
8. The mysteries of the Dyatlov Pass and Andrée’s Arctic balloon expeditions
Tumblr media
In 1959 a group of students traveled to the Ural mountains (USSR) for a 2-week expedition and they never returned. Another group, who were led by S.S. Andree (Sweden), was trying to reach the North Pole in 1897, only to die on the way.
It’s likely that the members of these 2 expeditions had never even heard about each other and it’s the mysterious deaths of the expeditions’ members that unite these 2 stories. Both groups consisted of amateurs but despite that they were very well-prepared. They carried enough warm clothes, matches, etc. to survive for a long time.
The weather conditions were reported to be suitable for the journeys. Scientists and amateurs are still studying photos, DNA samples, and other materials searching for the cause of these tragedies.
9.The Erdington Murders
Tumblr media
2 20-year-old women were murdered in Erdington, a suburb of Birmingham, England on the 27th of May at night. Mary Ashford and Barbara Forrest had both been drowned at a local pool. Both bodies had bruises, showed signs of rape, and both girls had been out dancing the previous night.
The only difference is that there are 157 years between these cases. Mary was murdered in 1817 and Barbara in 1974. In both cases the investigators never found the murderer, even though there were many suspects who were released by the court due to a lack of evidence.
The siblings of both victims tried to appeal the court decision and failed and the mysteries are still well-remembered in the neighborhood.
10. Chaplin and Distracted Boyfriend
Tumblr media
A meme known as Distracted Boyfriend appeared on the internet in the 2010s. It is believed to have first been introduced on Facebook by an unknown user. The image shows a young man turning to look at another woman while holding hands with his girlfriend. This situation often appears today in real life and it also happened in the Chaplin-era of cinema.
A poster from 1922 shows a Charlie Chaplin film called “Pay Day” that looks incredibly close to this meme. We can see the main hero, his wife, and the lady attracting his attention. Obviously this was long before the internet era, but the similarity is striking!

Five Interesting None Fiction books
1.  A History of the Swedish People: Volume 1: From Prehistory to the Renaissance by Paul Britten Austin
“Beginning in prehistoric times and culminating with the Dacke rebellion of 1542, renowned novelist Vilhelm Moberg's two-volume popular history of the Swedish people approaches its subject from the viewpoint of the common people, documenting peasants' lives as well as those of the royal families. In this first volume Moberg examines Viking raids, the coming of Christianity, and the Folkungs royal dynasty, whose tyrannical reign lasted from 1250 to the 1360s. He vividly describes the arrival of the Black Death from a ship that docked carrying only dead passengers, and he recounts the reign of Queen Margareta who founded the Kalmar Union, comprising all of Scandinavia. In every chapter, Moberg faithfully imparts how history affected "the whole people" of Sweden.” (Amazon.com)
2.  The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning by Margareta Magnusson
“In Sweden there is a kind of decluttering called döstädning, dö meaning “death” and städning meaning “cleaning.”....Her radical and joyous method for putting things in order helps families broach sensitive conversations, and makes the process uplifting rather than overwhelming.
Margareta suggests which possessions you can easily get rid of and which you might want to keep (photographs, love letters, a few of your children’s art projects).... Margareta introduces an element of fun to a potentially daunting task. Along the way readers get a glimpse into her life in Sweden, and also become more comfortable with the idea of letting go.” (Amazon.com)
3.  Vasa: A Swedish Warship by Hocker M. Frederick.
“Vasa was the most modern warship imaginable in 1628. Her ability for fast and aggressive sailing, the multiple gun deck and the heavy, custom-made guns were innovations. She was meant to be a key asset for Sweden in a bid for power in Northern Europe. But as with most brilliant innovations there are also failures, and the ship sank on her maiden voyage, a spectacular, costly and embarrassing fiasco. This book contains new information about the ship and the people who built and sailed it. And then there's the story of the discovery of the wreck and its challenging and exciting recovery. The dramatic story-telling is backed up by ground-breaking research, as Fred Hocker unfolds new facts that have now been brought to light. The 17th-century was an era of visual symbols. Photographs and historical reconstructions have been made especially for this book. Important themes are shown on double-page spreads and there is a fold-out guide to Vasa's rich ornamentation - a powerful symbolic reference to the glory of the Swedish king.” (Amazon.com)
4. Fishing in Utopia: Sweden & The Future That Disappeared by Andrew Brown
“Andrew Brown lived in Sweden as a child in the 1960s. Ten years later, he returned: he married a Swedish woman and worked in a timber mill, raising his small son, first of all in a housing estate on the edge of Gothenberg, and then in a makeshift chalet in the forest. This book tells his story and woven into it is the landscape of Sweden.” (goodreads.com)
5. The Expedition: Solving the Mystery of a Polar Tragedy by Bea Uusma
“11 July, 1897. Three men set out in a hydrogen balloon bound for the North Pole. They never return. Two days into their journey they make a crash landing then disappear into a white nightmare.
33 years later. The men's bodies are found, perfectly preserved under the snow and ice. They had enough food, clothing and ammunition to survive. Why did they die?
66 years later. Bea Uusma is at a party. Bored, she pulls a books off the shelf. It is about the expedition. For the next fifteen years, Bea will think of nothing else...
Can she solve the mystery of The Expedition?” (Scribd.com)

⚓️Researchers find mass grave off the #CapeCod coast that could be that of #pirate #BlackBellamy’s crew “Black Bellamy was history’s most effective pirate, amassing a fortune said to be worth $120 million in today’s terms and looking pretty smart as he went about his treacherous work. He also had a loyal crew that remained close to him, even centuries later. You read that right. Researchers say they have found a mass grave off the coast of Cape Cod that they believe contains the remains of more than 100 of Bellamy’s men. Those men were lost, along with Bellamy and his fortune, in April 1717, when his recently acquired flagship went down in a storm nearby. Of about 140 men on board, only two were reported to have survived–the ship’s carpenter and its navigator. The bodies of about 100 dead men washed ashore and were found and buried by inhabitants of the nearby settlement of Freshbook. The other bodies, including Bellamy’s, were believed to have stayed near the ship. Black Bellamy was the epitome of pirate fashion: the raven-black hair which he was nicknamed for was brushed into a satin-bound ponytail and he wore a velvet coat with turned-up cuffs and silver-buckled shoes. He accessorized with four flintlock pistols – because you can never be too careful. He was a former Royal Navy sailor who was left jobless after the War of Spanish Succession. His life of crime was sparked, it is said, after the wealthy father of the woman he loved refused to allow him to marry her. He vowed to come back for her a rich man. The captain of one captured ship said Bellamy’s crew referred to themselves as “Robin Hood’s men.” In fact, their leader was well known for his scorn of wealthy “scoundrels” in government. He was surprisingly democratic with his men, often letting them vote on important decisions. His contempt of the rich he robbed was well documented. “They rob the poor under the cover of law,” he said, justifying his actions. “We plunder the rich under the cover of our own courage.” He captured the Whydah, which was made for the slave trade, on its maiden voyage. The captain surrendered after three days of chasing and only one warning cannon shot. Bellamy, who was known for his mercy to surrendering opponents, traded ships and set off. Before he left, he invited Whydah crewmen to join him. He said: “To ye I say I am no slave and as a free man I have the right to make war on them as they do me. To all of ye I say, make one with me against these vultures who look on us as swine and cattle.” He added to the Whydah’s already substantial outfit of cannons and removed platforms other from the deck. Bellamy, who had incorporated former slaves into his crew, believed no man should be elevated above another. Inside, the ship’s huge and heavy pile of loot was left unsecured in an unprecedented show of The villagers who buried the Whydah’s crew disappeared in the mists of time, and it seemed the ship and its secrets were lost. But in 1984, treasure ship seeker Barry Clifford located the Whydah just 1,500 feet from shore. It was buried under a blanket of sand in shallow waters. A bell bearing the ship’s name was an authenticating detail. Even now, details of that find are a closely guarded secret, but in February 2018, more news was released. A femur bone was found underwater near pistols that exactly match ones Bellamy carried. Researchers believe they may have found Bellamy’s remains, and are using DNA testing in an attempt to confirm their theory. As for the mass grave on shore, author and current expedition leader Casey Sherman also is keeping the dead men’s secret, at least for now. But he hopes it will someday become a public memorial. Related story from us: The Pirate Cemetery of Madagascar was the off-season home for an estimated 1,000 pirates “It’s very hallowed ground,” he told The Telegraph. “Almost every day we are learning more about what happened 300 years ago.” As for Bellamy, if the femur’s DNA matches that of someone who is believed to be a relative in England, he’ll be on the move again after 300 years underwater with his proud flagship. The dashing buccaneer was from Devon, and Sherman said his remains would be buried at home in England.” http://www.thevintagenews.com/2018/04/03/pirate-mass-grave/
