The Manuscript - A.H
Tumblr media
a/n: this was supposed to be based on t.s new song manuscript, but it didn't realllyyy turn out like that
‧₊˚ ✩°。⋆♡ ⋆˙⟡♡ ⋆˙⟡♡⋆。°✩˚₊‧
pairings: aaron hotchner x reader
summary: while unpacking you find a series of letters aaron wrote to you in college
warnings: angst, age gap (reader is 20s, hotch is 40s), haley and jack don't exist in this universe
wc: 1.3k
Your gaze swept over the towering stacks of boxes littering your living room floor, and with a resigned sigh, you began the daunting task of unpacking them. Your hands found the nearest box deftly lifting the flaps as you began to pull out its contents. Your felt the soft crinkle of paper beneath your fingers, and gently, you drew out a stack of letters, their edges softened with time, all neatly tied together with a string.
Your heart seized a sudden halt as you realized just what they were. Your throat constricted, parched, as tears stung your eyes, threatening to spill over, your fingers coming to rest over your mouth. Instinctively, your body sank onto the cold hardwood floor, gently placing the papers down beside you. You had forgotten these had even existed, let alone made it with you on the move.
You didn't remember seeing them when you packed, did you? Your fingers shook slightly as they picked apart the knot, and with a hesitant touch, you reached for the first piece of weathered paper.

Honey,
Your letter was a welcome surprise, far sweeter than any text message could be. I enjoyed spending New Years Eve with you too, and I hope this case ends quickly so I can take you on a real date.
I'm glad to hear college is going well. Should you encounter any more issues with your professor, please let me know. You're a bright young woman, and I have no doubt he'll see that in time. I am looking forward to your next letter.
Yours,
Aaron

Honey,
I'm glad you enjoyed our date as much as I did. At times, I find my thoughts wandering to you in that dress, and it's a welcome distraction.
I'm glad you look forward to our letters, because I do too. And yes, rest assured, I'm taking all necessary precautions in the field. Don't worry, the team has my back, especially Garcia--she's got more eyes on us than stars in the sky.
Goodluck on your psychology exam. I know you will ace it.
Yours,
Aaron.

Honey,
I've read your letter several times, and I want you to know that it's perfectly normal to question your path. Trust your instincts--they've led you well thus far. Remember you are allowed to change your mind. Your parents will understand.
No matter what you decide, I have no doubt you will succeed. You have a rare combination of intelligence and empathy that will serve you well in any profession.
Once I'm back, how about we go to that restaurant you love? Consider it a date.
Yours,
Aaron.

Honey,
Summer suits you, I can tell--even from a distance. I'm proud of the work you're doing--shadowing at the occupational therpay office and working with children is no small feat. You'll have to tell me all about it when I get back.
The case is demanding, as they often are. And as for the sweatshirt, consider it yours. I had a feeling it wouldn't find its way back to me anyway.
We should talk about getting you a key to my place. Then you'll have no need to borrow my things--you'll have access to them whenever you wish.
I love you. I'll say it again when I see you.
Yours forever,
Aaron

Honey,
Congratulations on your first semester of OT school. I am incredibly proud of you and everything you have accomplished. Smarty pants.
I'm glad to hear you've been using the journal I gave you for Christmas. I would give you a thousand if that's what you wanted.
When I'm back, we'll celebrate your achievements properly. Until then, know I'm grateful for you every day. You've made me the happiest I've been, and I cherish every moment we share. I love you.
Yours forever,
Aaron

Honey,
Your last letter lingered on the topic of our age difference, and I've been giving it a lot of thought. It's a subject that, admittedly, has crossed my mind more than once. But let me reassure you, to me, it's the person you are, not the years you've lived, that matters most.
I understand the concerns that come with this, and I want you to know that it's okay. Your feelings are valid. We're navigating this together, and I remain certain in my commitment to you and to us.
We'll talk more about this when I'm home. I love you.
Yours forever,
Aaron

Honey,
I want you to know that I didn't mean to leave things unresolved, I'm sorry I was called away. I'm not writing to rehash the argument. I understand everything you said, and it's given me much to think about.
You are the most important part of my life, and us being at odds is more challenging than any case I've ever face. I love you deeply, and I'm committed to finding a way through this together. When I return, let's sit down and talk--really talk. I'm sorry for the way things were left, and I hope we can move past this.
Yours forever,
Aaron

December 22
Honey,
I find myself at a loss for words yet compelled to write to you. I've had time to reflect on everything that happened between us. I'm deeply sorry for any hurt I've caused, and how things unfolded. My only wish was for us to want the same things.
Please know, I will always be here for you, in any capacity you need. I hope you find someone who is worthy of you and can provide the life you deserve. You deserve someone who can walk with you through all stages of your life--someone who can give you the family you dream of. You have so much to offer.
You are an extraordinary person, and I have no doubt you will find great love and joy. And though it may not be with me, please remember, I still love you.
Yours always,
Aaron.

You hadn't even realized you were crying until your tears began to soak into the page, each droplet distorting the text as it spread. Your hand moved instinctively to your face, the fabric of your sleeve brushing against your wet cheek. A decade-old ache twisted inside you sharply, as fresh as if it were only yesterday.
You returned the letters to their stack, the bow tied as neatly as it was before, and laid them at the bottom of the box. As the papers found their place, your focus shifted, something else catching your attention--the journal he'd given you.
The sudden patter of footsteps coming down the stairs snapped you back to the present. Hastily, you wiped away the lingering tears and secured the lid on the box. As you turned, your face transformed with a practiced smile just as your seven-year-old daughter came skipping into view, her voice bubbling with excitement, "Mommy, mommy!"
Gathering her up in your arms, you showered her cheeks with affectionate kisses, her infectious giggles filling the empty house.
"When is daddy going to be home?"
With a gentle smile, you replied, "Soon, sweetheart," while your fingers danced along her side, eliciting more giggles. "Do you want to help Mommy unpack?"
She quickly scrunched her nose and shook her head. "Mmm, no, not really."
You laughed, and your heart swelled with love so intense it almost hurt. The front door swung open, and your daughter's voice pierced the air once more with a, "Daddy!"
Her little feet dashed off as she rushed to greet him, leaving you to resume unpacking. You barely had time to refocus when you felt a gentle touch in your hair.  Aaron was there, kneeling to your level with a tender smile.
"Hi, honey," he said, his hand pausing as he noted the redness around your eyes. "What's wrong angel?"
You reach for the letters, holding them out to Aaron with a half-smile. "Just revisiting the time you were this close to losing the best thing in your life," you tease, a laugh bubbling up. But as the laughter fades, it morphs into a sob.
Aaron's laughter mingled with yours as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close to his chest. "Yeah, that was a close one," he admitted, his voice a soft rumble. "Glad I came to my senses."

Veritas Ratio and Autistic Representation
Chances are you know autistic people in your life; autism itself is a fairly recently coined term, dating back to 1911, and can encompass a wide variety of symptoms and eccentricities which have existed since the dawn of humankind. (The 'fey-touched' child or changeling in European lore shares a lot of traits with autistic children.) Autism is a spectrum, encompassing and overlapping a lot with ADHD and other neurological disorders. There are probably millions of people out there, especially from older generations, who are on the spectrum and have no idea. I did not even get my diagnosis until I was 27.
So it is entirely possible that the creators of Veritas Ratio from Honkai: Star Rail did not intend to write him as autistic and based him on people they knew in their own lives, who, diagnosed or not, are on the autistic spectrum. However, the point of this piece is to talk about the ways in which Veritas Ratio is good autistic representation (in my opinion as a autistic person), and how people who want to write characters like this can take a page out of Honkai's book in their own work.
Tumblr media
1) SPECIAL INTEREST. Ratio shows a *staggering* amount of dedication to the pursuit of knowledge and his quest to cure the world of ignorance. This quest of his tends to supersede everything else in his life, with no mention of any friends, family connections or romantic partners in his character story. (Said as a Ratiorine shipper - not sinking any 'ships, here) His dedication to education started early, with reading college undergraduate education levels while still in middle school - seven or so years ahead of his peers. Autism is considered a disability, yes, but it does not exclude you from being smart, and the fixation on your chosen topic(s) can be extremely useful in motivating you to reach the top of your field. His path being The Hunt also outlines this dedication; he is seeking his target without rest or distraction.
Tumblr media
2) SENSORY ISSUES. Ratio very explicitly can become distracted and disgusted by the feeling of dirt or sweat on his skin, something that tends to be more prevalent with specific clothing textures but absolutely can manifest in a need to feel clean. He also can apparently become very irritated and overwhelmed by lights and sounds, and wears his plaster mask as a way to deaden and deafen the amount of sensory input that he receives. This allows him to think better, and is a fantastic example of what it feels like to suffer from sensory overload. (If you find yourself getting stressed in crowds, try bringing earplugs and putting them in the next time you're in a noisy restaurant and see if doesn't help you out.)
Tumblr media
3) STRONG SENSE OF MORALITY. Autistic people tend to suffer from a somewhat black-and-white feeling of right and wrong, and can hold themselves and other people to an extremely strict moral code. This does not mean that they are always correct in what they believe is right and wrong, but it means that they can be extremely passionate about following those rules. Ratio's beef with the Genius Society and their selectivity is indicative of his unwavering passion towards sharing knowledge with the masses, but the tactless way in which he wishes to cure ignorance bleeds into our fourth point.
Tumblr media
4) DIFFICULTY WITH SOCIAL CUES. In one of his earlier conversations with Aventurine (where he is clearly irritated at how careless Aventurine seems to be about their entire mission), Ratio inadvertently insults Aventurine's his lack of education and parents. He apologizes afterwards, stating he did not intend to come across that way, but he maintains the same imperious tone of voice. Autistic people often, but not always, struggle with social cues and can often be considered rude when we are trying to be direct and easily understood; and we can especially struggle with understanding sarcasm or sounding sarcastic when we intend to be sincere.
With my reasons for believing Ratio to be Autistic coded firmly established, let's move onto why I think he is good representation. The two most important parts of representation, in my lived experience as an Autistic person, are RELATABILITY and EMPATHY.
Ratio exhibits some of the same mentalities and symptoms I've had, such as being misunderstood and accidentally offending people and becoming extremely stressed in large crowds due to overstimulation, so he checks off the first box. But the way that the other characters in the game respect him and do not ridicule him for his eccentricities marks the second. Whether in marketing material or in character dialogue options, Ratio's love of baths, his plaster bust, and his ceaseless drive to educate other people (whether they need it or not) are seen as charming and generally positive, and those attributes are not constantly brought up (and mocked) in his interactions and dialogue with other characters. Aventurine doesn't constantly ask Ratio if he needs to leave the Dream to take a bath, and the TB's text conversations with him allow you to engage with his special interests such as his requests for problems to solve and debates to wage against you. He is canonically seen and respected as a brilliant individual, and not reduced to a joke or viewed as comic relief (e.g. Sampo, who almost exclusively is given negative dialogue options for the player to use when interacting with him and who almost every character in the story openly despises.)
Some of you are going to disagree with me in the comments (which is fine, it's my opinion), but for the few of you who read this all the way through, thank you. I hope that this helps you view Ratio and Autistic people overall in a new light, and I am excited to see where else we go from here with him and the rest of the cast!

Love your yandere academy AU!! I have a few Thoughts on it if you don't mind...
First of all the inherent loneliness and otherness you'd feel as the only darling at school? Mwah 🤌 The constant fear of being found out? Delicious. In a way it almost reminds me of Furina in 4.2, having to put on a never-ending show, never letting anyone see your true colors. Her stakes might have been a little higher, sure, but the general vibe is the same.
Next I could imagine darling using the classes as a way to get a leg up on their classmates. They know everything the yanderes do, which helps to even out the playing field, even if just a little. It's easier to avoid being manipulated when you're taking the same psychology classes as the people trying to manipulate you.
Finally I've been thinking about how the yanderes would feel when falling for diet before their identity is discovered. Yanderes falling for other yanderes is rare, and when not reciprocated, it rarely ends well. Especially if darling is a straight A student, they'll know they have to work twice as hard to get them in their grasp, either willingly or not. And with so many people starting to take an interest in them? Even more work. Normally it'd be fine to deal with one or two rivals, but multiple classes of them? Not so simple.
Idk it's just a really neat idea and I'd love to see more of it sometime
Tumblr media
First of all, thank you for sending in an ask! I´m very happy that feedback has been pretty positive so far because I was actually a bit hesitant on posting my idea at first. So this is really uplifting! ☺️
And yes, absolutely do share your thoughts with me if you have any, I love discussing ideas with other people, it´s one of the greatest things regarding fanfiction in my opinion 💕
So let´s discuss all of these concepts you brought up for a bit!
Introduction

tw yandere, discussion of normalized toxic relationships, implied stalking, mention of murder
Tumblr media
Yandere! Normalized Genshin Academy AU
Tumblr media
First of all, yes, you´re totally right! I´m really happy that the inherent feeling of loneliness came through in my writing because it´s one of the first thoughts I had when envisioning this AU. Just imagine how truly alone you must feel, living in a world where all these toxic relationships are viewed as normal and even desirable. All your life, you´ve been terrified of the future, of when the day a yandere desires you would come. You´ve been having nightmares about the day you would feel eyes cling to you way too long for comfort.
And now, you find yourself in this gigantic mess. Not only will you have to stress over your new academy life, but also the people you have to cross paths with in the hallway every day. You have to keep your guard up and play along with the insanity going on around you all day long, you can´t rest or relax for even a second. Because one second might be enough to expose you as who you really are: a helpless darling within a sea of predators just waiting to sink their claws into you.
No matter what, while you´re here you can´t be your true self, you can´t speak your true thoughts because you would be putting yourself in danger. You try your best to stay away from your fellow students but isolating yourself like that feels just as lonely.
And sometimes, you catch yourself almost slipping up when you inevitably have to talk to another student. People like Thoma, Amber, or Kaveh have easy-going and friendly demeanors, they talk to you so eagerly that you can´t help but feel yourself let loose for a bit, only to realize with a start that even these people who seem nice and approachable have to hide dark feelings and thoughts if they´re going to this school. Maybe in another life, you might have loved to have them as close friends but you know how twisted they must be deep down. You cannot allow yourself to trust anyone here and it´s so mentally taxing.
Oh, absolutely! Darling might be terrified by what they´re being taught as if it was the most normal thing in the world but they´re certainly glad to know some of the tricks a yandere might use. They obviously don´t plan on ever using those tips themselves but it´s useful when it comes to keeping their guard up. Thanks to these classes, they know better than to readily accept gifts from any of their "friends" without thoroughly checking them for cameras beforehand.
It´s both a blessing and a curse, really. Darling has a harder time keeping up the facade when confronted with all these new wicked ways to ensnare a darling during classes but they also serve well as a safety precaution. Can´t be tricked if you know all the tricks yourself, right? Though their anxiety would probably skyrocket, questioning every little gesture, gift, or phrase directed at them.
And your last point is also a very interesting point that I would like to elaborate on a bit more! I indeed also think that yanderes dating yanderes would be a very rare thing and I´d even go so far as to say it might be discouraged by society at large. And it´s not for the logical reason one might think of. The fact that two yanderes together would probably cause a spike in murders or similar catastrophes is not the real problem here.
It´s the fact that two yanderes dating each other means that two poor darlings will now have to go without a yandere </3
Even though yanderes are very normalized, I would still say that they´re probably still a minority ( at least I sure hope for the good of the world that half the population isn´t some sort of crazed lovesick fool). This of course comes with the conseqence that there are many more darlings than there are yanderes. Factor in the fact that a darling x yandere relationship is seen as the ideal relationship, something to strive for, and very soon you will see why yanderes dating other yanderes is kind of frowned upon.
Now even fewer darlings will get to have a loving yandere partner!
To you, it´s sick and twisted that this is the consensus, that yanderes and all the horrible things that they do are so romanticized. But at the same time, you´re really glad for this being a thing now because it greatly reduces the risk of one of your fellow students pursuing you for as long as you can still pose as a yandere.
But just because it´s frowned upon doesn´t mean that it´s illegal or that it never happens. There isn´t really any reasoning with a yandere in love so when they have their sights set on someone, there´s pretty much no stopping them. And who would want to be the one to tell them that they shouldn´t be in love with another yandere? That they should give up on you? That wouldn´t go very well.
So sadly enough, once your fellow students grow really interested in you, even you being perceived as another yandere would be enough to deter them. Of course, they´ll have to be more careful when approaching this than if you were a darling. As mentioned, you know all about the different ways to "win someone´s heart" and so they´ll have to adapt their approaches in some way.
Of course, having multiple rivals for your love isn´t making things any easier. Trying to get close to you when you know all their tricks is hard enough, they don´t need any distractions trying to steal your affection. It will certainly turn into a very fierce competition soon and it only gets worse the more people grow infatuated with you.
Your only hope is that they´ll just spend all of their time trying to get rid of the others so that they leave you alone. You´ll certainly have to be very careful about how you interact with your classmates from now on. One compliment and they´ll latch onto the possibility of you secretly loving them as well and then they´ll certainly never let go of you.

For the bed sharing prompts: Mashwood for #1 and Stryfewood for #4 💙💙
Hii, thank you for prompting, love!
This is double hit of a prompt fill, because @bienchanter asked for "Things you said at 1am" & "Things you said when you're scared" for Stryfewood and it aligned so perfectly with your "you woke me up screaming from a nightmare, and I’m tired, so let’s cuddle so the nightmares don’t come anymore". Granted, it's not that to a T, but I hope you enjoy!
-----
The sandstorm chases them into a town for the night, a leap out of their planned route, but one Meryl doesn't loathe entirely as it's a chance to sleep in a proper bed. It's been a month of a rush, of a chase after a single red thread as it drags through the sand and lures them forward, where they haven't paused at any town long enough to rest.
They luck out and manage to get one of the last rooms at the inn and the sight of two single beds with their creaky mattresses and ratty blankets are wonderful enough to make her beam. Wolfwood's comment on that lacks the usual inventive bite as if he's just saying it for sake of saying. Funny that it would spark a concern in her, funny that she hopes after a good night's rest he will be snarky and sharp properly again.
Funny how the thought of cupping his cheek and smoothing out his tired scowl gently lodges into her palm and aches there.
It doesn't take long for sleep to come once they're done settling in. The day (the weeks, the months, the years of chase, of guilt, of loneliness that is briefly broken for when a motorcycle runs beside her van, of wavering hope and grief that draws its borders) melts away into dreamless darkness.
When she wakes from a muffled cry, it doesn't come rushing back in all at once, but her heart is pounding in her throat nonetheless as she sits up.
The sound repeats, followed by a whimper, and now Meryl is sure the source is Wolfwood. She calls his name as she turns on the light and sees him shrink away from it, shielding his face. Meryl makes out something alike no no nonono from his next noise and nearly rips the lamp off the nightstand with her hurry to turn it off.
She stumbles out of the bed and toward his. It's easy to climb in now that he has curled up, as small as his trembling body allows him. Gently, as gently as one can to move an adult man almost twice your size, she pulls him toward her, into her arms.
Or tries to, because he's rigid and straining away from her. Only when she tells him repeatedly it's her, it's Meryl, he allows to be embraced. Buries face into her with a broken sound that sends a spider web of cracks further across her heart from where it's already cracked in pieces. (For him, for Vash, for a barren field that used to be a city, for an obituary of lives and hopes and dreams that wouldn't fit into any single newspaper.)
Meryl cards hand through his hair, lets him press his burning forehead to her throat and keeps murmuring to him that she is here. He isn't quite awake, nor entirely in the nightmare-memory that has seized him. She doesn't know how to make it release him fully. The first time she had tried to shake him out of it and he had turned violent in response, growling and pushing her away as if his life depended on it. It probably did, wherever he was at that moment.
They won't speak of it in the morning, she knows. It happening alone is already going to quicken him turning Angelina into a different direction, splitting their paths once again. To speak of it would be sending him away the same day. But they might be so close now to the end of the red thread and she wants him, needs him to be there when that hope either crumbles to dust or blooms into a beautiful geranium. It has now become a race against time and hungry ghosts with additional odds.
She shifts slightly so her arm wraps around Wolfwood more comfortably and the shift causes another miserable sound to slip out of him.
"Please don't," he pleads and she doesn't know if he's talking to someone from the nightmare or her, but when he keeps repeating it, Meryl bites the bullet and ventures a reply. "I won't," she promises and hopes it's with enough conviction to change the trajectory of his visions. If she can lend her voice to the horrible doctor she should have shot when she had the chance and ease Nicholas's pain, she would be happy to.
It seems to help, somehow, and he relaxes a little in her arms, the hands that had at some point come to grip her so hard she is sure there will be bruises ease their trembling hold. She keeps saying it, reassuring him, like a broken record until her voice is going hoarse and her own arms are cramping from holding him so tight as if she could press every broken piece of him back together, until the morning paints an orange line at the horizon and he is still in her arms. Only then she quiets and presses her cheek to top of his head. Only then does she let a few quiet tears fall, for all she can't fix or even soothe, for the way that he will deny himself any comfort come daylight, for the jagged silence and space between them that she doesn't quite know how to cross.
Maybe once they find the red bridge that had brought them together. Maybe then.

Introducing a spell type I've been developing for a while: Mana Weaves.
As an introduction, a Mana Weave is working on the Principal of Mana's Centrality, or the idea that Mana is the substance of magic, and the matter your soul is made of. Under this philosophy, the process of casting spells of any kind is understood to be an act of Mana Manipulation. In the Mana Manipulation framework of practice, the Law of Three Fold applies, though I've found in my own experience that there are two ways to cast: cast with the ambient Mana in the environment, or cast with your own Mana, and the universe is much less quick to smack you if you cast from your own Mana.
Problem: I need to science up my magic by compulsion, I need to understand and iterate, but that takes a lot of Mana to use.
Solution: Mana Weave creates a bubble of partially your Mana and partially the ambient Mana, and it amplifies it in a contained work station in three dimensional space.
Setup: (only necessary to do once per wand)Take a dedicated wand and meditate, focus on bonding the wand to you so you can feel it as a part of your Mana essence. For this to work, this wand must be made so close as to feel like another organ in your soul's body. Then, find a point on your wand and ensure it is a point where you can easily place your index finger on on your dominant hand and hold it there for extended periods of time. (If you've played VRChat and used the markers, this is the rough visualization you're going for.) Focus your Mana from your belly and visualize it following a path around your heart and down your arm, into your hand and wand, then draw that path out from the tip of the wand. This is to give a focusing point. After creating that path, focus on moving the line where your fingertip rests in 3D Space to instead be bonded to your fingertip. Then, once the line is set, focus on cutting the points either side of the wand so that the path is a broken circuit. Once the connection is severed, that point where the line is bonded to your finger lets you complete the circuit and allow Mana Flow in a controlled way.
NOTE: Ensure you draw that Mana line through the point where your finger will rest on the wand and ensure that point is not at the tip of the wand.
Function: Ley lines naturally firm when Astral Caves flow near enough the Physical Plane for Mana to flow thick through the planar barrier. Over time it creates a selfperpetuating cycle of Mana from the Astral and Physical Planes blend and create a vortex. This vortex flow creates a field that sucks in Mana and amplifies it's energy output, or a "Locational Mana Density Shifting Field" that increases the Mana Density of an area that functions as a storage location, and thus amplifies the output energy draw and thus stronger magic you can cast. This weave functions by creating an artificial network of Ley lines in an ordered and repeated pattern as opposed to the more chaotic and random patterns of the natural ones. This allows the field it creates to be stronger and more structurally sound while being shrunken down.
Procedures: Take your wand and draw a mesh in 3D Space, then draw a circle around it while focusing your intention on bonding the mesh into a solid three dimensional weave. After this, you can draw circles in the air and draw Glyphs inside them. When creating the circles, focus your intention on letting what's put inside move as one piece that can jigsaw into place with other circles. (This last part is the foundation of my craft. All of my spells are comprised of Sigil Glyphs that can work together as building blocks. Think molecules and letters for how this modular images system interlocks together.) Place each Glyph in the weave and the Glyphs will draw from the Mana your weave draws in from both the environment and from you. The weave creates a self contained bubble that gives a space of super strong amplified Mana output, but fully workable as a work station safe enough for novices to practice most lone witch spells. After you place the Glyphs into position, place the Mana Weave in it's place wherever the spell requires, and then you just put a tiny bit of your own Mana into the weave to activate it.
Example Spell: Potection of My Soul
Tumblr media
Cast Mana Weave around head and place the Glyphs inside, then grip the weave and mold it to your head shape, ensuring it is completely immersing your head in the Mana Weave boundary. Doing this ensures the effected enclosed space creates a saturation therapy of sorts and ensures that the spell is saturating your head, amplifying it and ensuring it's effects permeate your flesh. This can also effect the entire body, just mold the weave to the body and head together instead.

This week on Saturday lancer, the party began their dragon hunt on Caliburnus. They'd need to trek through the wilderness, using their skills to avoid riling up the forest too much while approaching their prey. They opted to take the river path, and ran into the Metal Men.
While previous Cynthia seemed to have made a good impression on them, at the sight of Ea (Ria's mech), they were sent into a frenzy and started attacking the party.
Mission deets under cut:
Mission // 005
Dragon Hunt
After the tense mission on Ulone Fortuna Wing decides to travel first to Cephus for vacation, and then to Caliburnus once Dandelion's curiosity of the oddities regarding Arianna's home become too much to bear. Caliburnus is an incredibly dangerous world, and simply leaving the settlement necessitates being in a mech suit lest one perishes.
Driven to seek answers, the party requests a chance to hunt a dragon as Arianna has mentioned them before, and Maeve grants them the right—but no more than that—to drive off Tiarna Dóiteáin who has nested close enough to be a risk. Arianna hopes to speak with the other Cursed Ones in order to find why Ea has gone silent, but before that they must succeed in hunting the Lord of Fire…
Goals
Find the Lord of Fire's resting place.
Drive the "dragon" off.
Enemy OPFOR
Wildly varied local flora and fauna, likely primarily biological units.
Though the locals and Arianna are familiar with the wildlife, that does not necessarily translate into Scan-quality knowledge.
Potential encounters include: Metal Men, Centaurus, Ironbeaks, Steel Crackers, Furnace Flowers, Shambling Trees, Vine Men, Luring Snappers, Rolling Clickers, Web Swarmers, Strangling Waters, Living Flames, Moving Forests, and Dragon Scales.

Special Conditions
Living World: At the start of every Round, roll 1d6. On 4+, the location of every character that moved last Round is targeted by "Living Thorns", which activate at the end of the current Round.
Choking Miasma: Areas around fungal terrain count as Hard Cover, but units within them cannot draw Line of Sight outside of them. These areas are designated by Purple measurement templates.
Hostile Flora: Ending a turn in soft cover granted by plants deals 1 AP Kinetic damage. Any attempt to clear out plant-based soft cover must deal a minimum of 5 damage in a single attack, otherwise the cover is unaffected. Fire/fire-effects from attacks or abilities do not spread, unless explicitly stated by it.
River Path
The Great Tree that Làirig Dhrù rests upon condenses much of the local rainfall, converting it into flowing rivers leading down. Following this flow allows for quick traversal, assuming you're willing to risk the dangers involved.
Primary Objective: Defeat all enemy units.
Secondary Objective // 1: Allow a Metal Man to summon a Moving Forest, then defeat it. (0/1)
Reward: x1 CORE battery As a rule, even the most hostile of flora seem to respect the Metal Men. Likely due to their inedible nature, and tendency to care for them.
Special Conditions
Torus: Moving into one of the Torus's hexes immediately causes that unit to be randomly teleported to one of the other Torus hexes.
Enemy comp for this map includes:
Metal Men, who are Tokolosh (Field Guide to Mfecane) Veterans with a special ability to affect both Biological units with tech attacks and spend a Full Action to summon Reinforcements. Their gimmick is to Lure players out of hiding, slap them with Death Clock to force a player to maintain Danger Zone. This combos with—
Ironbeaks, who are Nosferatu (Lancer Enhanced Combat) that primarily hunt high heat targets. While not mandatory, I played them as predator animals mostly focused on hunting down high heat (both player and enemy), so they mostly hover out of combat and only swoop in when someone hits the Danger Zone. The Bite to absorb heat, then attack repeatedly with Talon once exposed. +Heat Seeking to make their targeting priorities clear. Slightly customized with the Monstrosity's +Winged.
Furnace Flower Seedlings, who are Stormcallers (Field Guide to Liminal Space) with the Turret Template (Maximum Threat) +Fixed. Their job is to mostly be a long range nuisance on the other side of the river, forcing players to deal with them or slowly get burned and impaired.
Spear Roots, who are Monstrosities with +Natural Camouflage and +Burrower. They only activate when someone is within LOS and Sensors, and then will target whoever they think is the weakest. Mostly just a hassle.
Vine Blights, Monstrosity Grunts with the Revenant Template (Maximum Threat), whose gimmick is being able to survive dying once (unless overkilled enough to remove the wreckage). Low risk but demanding two actions across two Rounds to put down for good.
Vine Men, Barricades with the Horror Template (Dustgrave), but really just for a custom trait called +Living that turns them Biological. Comes with +Drag Down to be a threat to the team's Nelson.
Walking Forest, a Brute (Lancer Enhanced Combat) Veteran with a renamed +Grafted Weapon who job it is is to be a big scary meatshield.
Had to call it at the top of Round 4, we rolled Living Thorns going off every Round. Burst 4, attack roll for 4 AP Kinetic damage Hull Save vs Prone, miss halves damage and no Prone. Not supposed to be huge damage (and the attack roll means our Saladin's abilities can help reduce damage or risk), but makes a constant pressure on the players when it goes off. You can only ever be attacked by a single Living Thorn no matter how many aoes you are in.

Seeing as lore on Godrick is pretty vague compared to the other demigods in Elden Ring, I find myself thinking and looking throughout his land and realized something interesting. Godrick is not discriminative over races in his castle Stormveil or his region of Limgrave, the amount of things I've noticed is bizarre given what the species bad reputations. In Limgrave there SO MANY trolls roaming about peacefully, sure he uses them for labor but he does allow them to rest in fields or do whatever like the one near the chapel of Marika. He also seemed to have taken a tree sentinel from Lyndell to put him up for patrol out on his area to smack down tarnished as they exit the tomb weakened. His land is so peaceful there's a Forest FULL of bears and rune bears sleeping, roaming and stretching trees happily with no worries in the Lord, the real only threat to Limgrave is us and the savage annoying demi humans Godrick's knights repel away like the vermin they are. For his castle-man imma need to make a list for all the things just chilling within his walls, some stranger than others.
-Exiled Warriors (hired yet accepted)
-Banished Knights (hired yet given a duty)
-Storm Hawks and Warhawks (tamed pets)
-Bats and Rats (most likely unwelcomed)
-Tree Spirit (undiscovered, might be eating dumped corpses)
-Troll (guarding his arena)
-Lion Beast (relaxing by divine tower path)
-3 Golems (to his divine tower)
-commoners (some maybe as servents)
-Omen with a pet dog (not locked away)
-Crucible Knight (having some quiet alone time)
-Dragonic Banished Knight with pet hawk
-Grafted Scion (his creation of course)
-Living Jars and Warrior Jar (Godrick probably feeds them leftover bits)
-Dogs (fed leftover graft victims)
He clearly doesn't seem to care about your race or your nationality just only if you're willing to serve under his name, to assistant him in his path to greater highs. Kinda reminds me of Miquella with the Haligtree being a place where all can seek refuge, maybe if you're willing to serve under the Golden Lord stormveil might be welcoming as well. I will never stop lore diving into this man he has so much going on <3

Habit headcanons part 2 because it was demanded and who am I to protest? + Co. Because the world don't revolve around him.
@chillinginthethematary thanks for allowing me ramble I literally have nobody to let out all these thoughts so it means a hell of a lot to me you asked for this.
-I don't know how visible it was in my concept art but the true form has this fur pattern in black on the back in the shape of a cross
-I think this may be like the 7th or 8th iteration already, it started showing up on Ev as well, more like a burn scar if anything.
Regarding Noah/Firebrand
-He got to him in the second iteration, and killed that girl from Thanksgiving as means to make his presence known at fist but then continued to do it because let's be real this is Habit he'd kill anyone again and again if offered the chance.
-Habit couldn't care less about Noah until the journal showed up and realised "oh shit this guy's onto it"
-Firebrand's relationship to him still isn't the best. Brandy would like to move along and go on his duty but still has this sense of being in debt for the help he'd been provided - as little as it was it made the difference. They keep in contanct, more because Habit wants to.
-He enjoys annoying Firebrand more than anything do NOT PUT THEM IN THE SAME ROOM. ONE OF THEM (maybe both) WILL LEAVE WITH SEVERAL INJURIES.
Regarding Milo/Mr. Scars
-At some point he'd considered inhabiting him as well, but his energy was too off. (Because the cult and direct influence of Operator)
-Once settled in Evan's body though, there had been a timeline where he'd been there since the Fairmount days, and there had been occasions he'd roughhouse with Milo
-Needless say he had to make him shut up as well every time he made him cry (spoiler: Habit made him cry a lot as a kid)
-While having low opinions on Mr. Scars, he does have some respect for him. Mostly because he shot Mary.
Regarding Kevin/Observer:
-They're exes (from the second iteration also). But neither is bitter about it at all, they still chat every now and then to laugh about Noah.
-They split off when they realised they're on opposing teams.
-Idfk man they did drugs together every other thursday need I say more.
Regarding the rest of the collective:
-Habit thinks they're a bunch of freaks. Case closed. Scriniarii? Stupid. Cursor? Even more stupid. Deadhead? A nobody. Why? Because his ego. It's always the ego for him.
Regarding the Rake:
-I actually am Seth=Rake truthist here so excuse that (-D)
-When he found out his Snoopy here was a man once, he continued treat him like a dog for the fuck of it.
-Doesn't see him as a man anyway, and probably never could.
-You know the video where he's like in the woods, the one with the infamous "We're gonna have ourselves a Jeff kebab" quote? Yeah Rake showed up off camera and they played fetch.
-If you're curious - in my AU Alex lives and he's Rake's owner now (but unlike Habit he tries connect it to human senses again)
-(Alex is also friends with Jay :D)
Which leads us to the MH crew:
-He watched from the distance trust me here, Habit knew his old friend Operator's out there.
-And thanks to Jay he found out where the damned thing actually is. He just knew at some point they'd cross paths again.
-While not interacting with them in the slightest, Habit did pick favourites (cough cough Alex Kralie, but somehow still thinks he was an idiot)
-It just baffles him how BAD everyone is at killing people smh get a grip guys c'mon.
Enter the proxies:
-Generally Habit has this distaste for anybody under Operator's influence willingly
-But messing around with the underdogs? Sign him in.
-Spacifically because he can control them actually, considering their job in the field is as hitmen.
-Starting off, his first encounter was with Hoodie. It was brief, a mere exchanging glances, but they just both knew it meant no good.
-He feeds Kate every now and then, when there's leftovers he brings them at the edge of the forest for her.
-She doesn't know how to take him as considering she knows he's not human, but doesn't know what he is. (Operator's influence made her sensitive to otherworldly activity and entities.)
-Coyote got defensive around him the first encounter, but she's too cheery to just run away like that. She trusts Habit blindly because unlike Kate she thinks he's human.
-Toby is too far gone. They fought the first time they ran into one another.
-Rouge minds her business so they don't know each other.
-Does Skully count? Yeah Skully, like Tim would rather stay away. Doesn't mean they have a choice.
-Masky now is complicated. Unlike Tim, they don't mind Habit but neither seek him.
-Hoodie and Brian are okay internally with one another so you may take them as the same person. Similar to Masky, only that he's a little more open towards people generally.
Okay now that's about it but I do take requests if anyone wants anything. (Ofc from my AU.)

Coming back to this post (https://www.tumblr.com/electricshoebox/743804206815838208/thenarator-as-someone-with-a-bachelors-degree-in?source=share) for a second, I also just want to say that if I could go back and make a different choice about my English degree (besides change my field entirely, which is the first thing I would do), I would 1) do way more research about what people with English degrees typically do with them, 2) research what degree I would actually need for thing I thought I could use an English degree for, and 3) take at least a year off to really think about what I wanted.
I don't regret getting the degree, or the experience, or the education. I love literature, I love writing, I learned a lot. There are many reasons it was ultimately the right decision and the experience I needed to have when I needed to have it. But I also lost the opportunity to pursue something I really wanted by listening to people telling me English was basically useful everywhere (it's not) and by doubting my own interests. I am all for pursuing higher education if you want it. It should be free and accessible for everyone, but that's a different discussion. It's also just that my degree ultimately has served me only as a ticket to getting 50 cents over minimum wage in my first job after college and allowing me to apply for promotions I would otherwise have been locked out of at my current place of work. And that latter one is absurd in my particular case because my degree is actually irrelevant to the field I now work in. Of course there are many jobs where a specific degree is necessary, don't get me wrong, but there are also many jobs where it's just used to gatekeep where experience in the field would serve as well if not better.
Anyway, my point is, it's ridiculous to pressure 18 year olds to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Also, pursue what you want to and what feels right, but do your research so you know you're going down the path that's really going to be the best choice for you.

Behold: my new favourite nuke frame
Builds + what is happening and why under the cut
What the hell is happening and also why
This is a combination of Ivara's general sneakiness and crowd control, the Helminth ability "Marked for Death", and finishers with rapiers
Marked for Death allows you to target one enemy and send out the next instance of damage you deal to them in an AOE, down to damage type and procs
Rapiers proc slash on both front and back finishers, and in general finishers do an approximately fuckton of damage
Combine this with picking out the tankiest targets, and some easy finishers, and you've got a very small, very finnicky nuke
Builds
Note that neither of these builds are The Best They Could Be, but I'm showing exactly what I was using in the video
Ivara build:
Tumblr media
Subsume Marked for Death over your choice of Navigator or Artemis Bow
Energy Conversion is your flex slot. It's not a necessity in my experience and is hard to reliably proc for Marked for Death specifically. You can swap in Infiltrate if you want to use this in tandem with spying, or Augur Message for a bit more duration on Prowl and Sleep Arrow
Preparation highly recommended, I'll add that to mine when I have a spare exilus adapter and also forma bc the zaw ate my last one
Arcane Grace is such a flex slot here that I completely forgot to swap in something more useful. Molt Efficency can help make the whole keeping enemies asleep thing a bit easier, otherwise no clue what could even go here
If you don't have Arcane Energise, Arcane Steadfast is a functional backup, since you'll be casting stuff pretty often. Often enough that you will Need that energy support. Bring energy pizzas or Zenurik just in case
Zaw build:
Tumblr media
Plague Kripath, Peye, Vargeet II Jai rapier zaw
Volcanic Edge and Gladiator Might are your flex slots bc this is overkill in terms of damage even without them
Finishing Touch is your only Must here tbh and the rest is up to preference, but this build makes for an overall useable weapon
Corrosive bc fuck ferrite armour (not relevant to finishers, but to general use)
Arcane of your choice. Exodia Might seems like a logical choice but honestly you don't really need the healing between being invisible and pickpocketing everything that moves, and I haven't gotten to test whether Marked for Death procs it
You technically don't need a rapier to do this on Starchart, pretty much any weapon built for finishers will do, but on Steel Path you need those guaranteed slash procs for cleanup sometimes
Caveats
The game is fussy about when it counts something as a back finisher vs stealth finisher, and dishes out damage accordingly. Go for front finishers if you can, as those don't have this issue. Focus on humanoid enemies as some others cannot be front finisher'd (e.g. MOAs)
Marked for Death needs line of sight
The damage from Marked for Death never exceeds the remaining health of the target. Which is to say, single out the tanky ones
Targeting the enemy you're actually trying to finisher sometimes goes after another enemy bc Targeting Is Borked
Steel Path viable but take it with a grain of salt bc this isn't my field of expertise. And obviously bring something else that can deal with Acolytes and alerted Nullifiers (tested far-from-extensively on Sedna and Pluto)
Kills from Marked for Death count as ability kills, so if you wanna focus farm, make sure you've got a lens on your Ivara, not just your zaw

The Villain Named Gravity: Chapter 1
This is something I posted on AO3, and figured I could post it here too. It's going to be multi-chapter story about you and 3 ocs of mine (who are you best friends in the story) getting isekaied to the world of Genshin Impact. Genshin impact character won't show up until at least chapter three.
Summary: When the world starts to fall apart, the four genius will not allow its passing without at least trying to prevent it. But after a single miscalculation of the geodesic equation, the four of you end up in a world you know nothing about.
Your only objective to protect your friends. You could care less about anyone else.
So then... Why is it that the longer you stay here, the more difficult it becomes to see the two wanderers hurt...?
---
You're a psychopathic genius who gets isekaied to the world of Genshin impact with your three also genius yet chaotic friends. There, Tomoaki and Kazuha crosses path with you, leading you to a spiral of insanity.
Warnings: DARK CONTENT, reader is psychopathic, read is manipulative, it'll mostly be cheerful (especially in the first few chapters), ooc, mild dubious consent, no genshin characters will show up in the first two chapters, enemies to lover, friends to lovers, a lot of scientific jargon, reader is female, female pronouns, don't know if I'll actually commit to continuing the story so be prepared... do not interact if any of the above makes you uncomfortable. I'm not used to tumblr yet so my first few posts may not look as pretty. Sorry about that. (Many of these are for the story as a whole, this chapter is pretty tame.)
Pairings: Kaedehara Kazuha x Reader, Tomo x Reader
Everyone ready then? Alright, let's get going.
Tumblr media
The Villain Named Gravity
This was the end.
The world crumbled under your feet. The screams of people could be heard from all four directions that the winds blew from, the sky wept tears of acid, burning your cheeks as it mixed with your tears. It was over, that’s probably what you would have thought as you stared at the despair that filled the world you once loved, the signs of apocalypse stretching to the horizon.
That was until you heard the familiar voices behind you.
“Crap! Crap! Crap! The fuse blew up!”
“Guys, where did you put the geiger counter?! Kind of in the middle of something here?!”
“Uhm, I think I forgot to square the denominator? The electric field seems… wrong?”
You turned back towards your three friends, all working on the different aspects of the machine you had built together. The machine that became the final hope of this dying world you once called home. After a second of collecting your thoughts, you rushed towards them, grabbing an extra fuse that rested on top of the work table along the way.
“Did you guys calculate the geodesic correctly?! Remember that the geometry of space-time will change once we activate the machine! If we want to end up in the correct time period–”
“I’ll get on that as soon as I’m done here!” Your friend who was fixing the blown fuse screamed. He was always considered the leader of your friend group, often being the one to gather everyone, even gathering people for this elaborate and improbable plan, “Toss those extra wires and fuse and I’ll get around to it! You go ahead and make sure the gravitational force is correct!”
You nodded at your leader then tossed him some wires, as well as the fuse you picked up along the way. He catches it without looking, giving you a small nod of appreciation, and getting to work immediately.
“Are you sure?” Another friend of yours pauses, looking away from his geiger counter that he found under the chair he was working on. This one was often the most logical, the ‘calm one’ as you had dubbed in your thoughts, “She’s better at general relativity, she should be the one to–”
“We don’t have time!” The leader yelled, “She’s the only one who actually understands the amount of gravitational force we’ll need! We all understand the geodesic equations!”
The calm friend frowned, but decided that arguing would get him nowhere and went back to his own work. After listening in on their conversations, you rushed over to the computer screen filled with numbers and equations that had practically been glued to your brain. You started with the calculations. Everything must be perfect. Not even a single mistake would be allowed… In the meantime, the last friend finished calculating the electric field and she jumped up from her chair with the clipboard. She was always the cheerful one of the group, one in charge of lighting up the mood when everyone seemed down. “Eureka! I got it! Leave the electromagnetic forces to me!” She rushed over to the computer right next to yours, and started typing away.
“Fixed the fuse and got the geodesic.” Your leader smirked in satisfaction as he turned to the rest of the group, “Status update?!”
“Gravitational force seems correct!” You exclaimed.
“Electric fields were adjusted accordingly!” Your cheerful friend exclaimed next to you, her bubbly voice cheering up the room in an instant.
“The radiation seems fine, the lagrangian of electroweak force seems fine…” Your calm friend who was staring at the geiger counter and his phone simultaneously mumbled under his breath, looking calm compared to the rest of the group members.
The leader nodded in satisfaction, “Alright, it’s now or never then.”
That comment made you realize just how much louder the screams were compared to just a few minutes earlier. At this very moment, the world you all lived in is dying away, killed by the greed of humanity, unable to sustain life that depended on it. That was when the four of you decided that the best course of action would be to try and save the world using all of your brilliance. The four geniuses agreed to create a time machine, hoping to stop the destruction of your world before it even started.
The leader activated the machine, making a loud noise that made you jump 5 feet in the air from surprise. Everything should be perfect, every calculation, every component, no mistakes could be forgiven.
That was, until the four of you started noticing the abnormal behaviors from the machine. Excessive heat, discomforting noises, and the sense that everything was going out of control…
It was too late to stop the machine, the last thing you heard were the screams of your friends, the last thing you saw were bright lights, and then the world fell silent. Everything seemed lost, the four people who could have saved the world had failed.
That was what you thought, oh, how very wrong you were.
*******
“....W… p…. Wake up darn it!”
You woke up on a hill that sang with the birds above, and the first thing you saw was infinite blue. How strange, it almost looks like the blue sky you used to admire, before the corruption of mankind turned it red. You blinked a couple of times before scanning your surroundings, though your vision was still blurred. Eventually, your eyes cleared up to reveal three familiar faces.
“....You guys?” You whispered before sitting up on the soft green grass. Your body aches all over, making you wince, but the soft breeze on your skin and the fresh air made you feel a little bit better.
“Aaah! I thought you died! I’m so glad!!” The cheerful friend throws her hands around you and starts sobbing, while your other two argues in the background.
“Told you we should have left the geodesic equation to her.”
“I said I was sorry, okay?! We made it back in time so does it really matter?!”
“My body hurts, so yeah, kinda.”
You watched the three chaos unfold in front of you and chuckle a little. This made your three friends baffled. All of that danger they put you through, and you were laughing? After chuckling to yourself a bit, you gave them a warm smile, a smile you haven’t shown since the world started falling apart.
“I’m glad I have you guys, you know?”
The cheerful friend looked more emotional than before and started wailing as she hugged you tighter. You regretted making her more emotional than she was before, because now you couldn’t breathe. The leader grinned in satisfaction at your response while the calm one looked away, with a tint of pink covering his cheeks. Though neither of them bothered helping you get out of the deathening grip of the cheerful one’s love.
“See? At least someone appreciates all the work I put in!” The leader hissed at your calm friend, “And we’re back in time before the world went to shit, so mission accomplished right?!”
Your calm friend looked around, his analyzing eyes sent shivers down your spine. You knew that it was never a good sign when he had those looks in his eyes. “...Not so fast, I don’t think we actually ended up where we wanted to.”
“What do you mean?” Your friend who finished bawling her eyes out finally lets go of you, allowing you to finally breathe a little.
“I mean, just look at it.” He pointed ahead into the distance, after following his gaze, you quickly realized what he meant and gasped in horror. Up ahead was not the city the four of you were just in, but instead a strange city you have never even seen before. No, specifically speaking, you have seen something similar before, but never in person. The black tiled roof on top of cemented walls, cherry blossoms filling all the spaces between the buildings, the large building decorated in purple… It almost looks like…
“Feudal Japan…?” You mumbled under your breath. At this point, the confident smile of your leader faded, replaced by an expression of worry, panic, and regret.
“What the fuck did I dooooo?!” He screamed as he held his head with both hands.
“Calm down! It was an accident, right?” The calm friend broke out of his usual cool nature, worried that the leader blames himself for the situation.
“Weren’t you making fun of him a little while ago?” Your happy friend giggled, though you hear the hint of worry mixed with her bubbly voice. You watched the three of them interact with panic from a distance. Realizing that staring blankly at your panicky friends won’t make the situation any better, you decided to check your surroundings once more.
But as soon as you tried to get up, you noticed that something fell off of your lap. Confused, you looked down towards the grass to check. By your side was a circular and black gem that had something that looked like the center of gravity symbol inside it. The glass itself was decorated with some sort of metal frame, and it had a substantial amount of weight. You were sure that nothing like this existed in the lab you four were working in a few minutes ago, so you assumed it found itself on your lap when you were teleported here.
“Hey guys check this out.” You called, and your three friends decided to pause their bickering for a small moment to look at the gem inside your hand.
“What is this?” The calm friend mumbled, tracing his index finger on the surface of the gem.
“It looks cool, like an anime merch!” The cheery friend giggled.
“Hey wait a minute!” The leader paused, “I saw something similar to this earlier! Just a sec…” He rushes over towards the patch of ground he was standing on and fishes out another gem from between the grass. His gems, instead of being black, were red with symbols of atoms inside.
“Lol! Yours has a diagram of an atom on it!” The cheerful friend chuckled. The leader pouted playfully.
“Well I like atoms! I’m an atomic physicist after all! So I think it fits! And better than not having a cool anime-merch.”
“Anime-merch…” The clam friend mumbled under his breath as he reached into his pant pocket. He shuffled around a bit before pulling out another gem, a green one with the GHS hazard pictogram inside. This made all of you laugh.
“You’re radioactive! You’re radioactive!” The leader grinned, and the clam friend shook his head in disbelief. He turned to your cheery friend, which made her let out a little “oh” before she began searching around her. Eventually, she found a blue gem which had symbols of what seemed to be lightning and magnet on it on the ground she was standing by.
Staring at the four gems, you think for a little bit, before a sudden realization hits you.
“Gravity, electromagnetism, strong force and weak force…” You whispered. The calm friend nodded in agreement.
“Huh? What? What’s going on? I’m not following.” The leader panicked. The calm friend sighed in disbelief.
“You know? For someone labeled a genius by everyone, you’re not very bright, are you?”
“Shut up! I’m good at physics! Not cryptic words!”
“So, what about the four fundamental forces?” The cheery friend asks you, and you nod.
“All these gems are corresponding to a fundamental force we’re most familiar with. My research is on general relativity and gravity, so I got gravity…”
“And my research is on radioactive decay caused by the nuclear weak force,” The calm friend added, “So I got the nuclear weak force.”
“Oooh! I see!” The cheery friend grinned, clapping her hands in delight, “Since my research is focused on building circuits, I'm electromagnetism!”
“So… I’m The strong force? Since my research is AMO with an emphasis on the elementary particles?” The leader laughs, proudly, “Ahaha! Alright! I’m the strongest!”
You nod at him with a slight smile on your face, “As you should.”
The leader seemed encouraged by your affirmation and he announced to the rest of the group, “Guys! I’ve decided! Until we finish our mission of saving our world! Let’s call each other by the names given to us by this anime merch! Thus, from now on, my name is ‘Strong Force!’ Let it be a reminder that we, the four geniuses, are the savior of the world! Ahaha! Didn’t I sound cool?”
Your calm friend, who was to be known as the Weak Force, shook his head in disbelief, as your cheery friend now named Electromagnetism cheered with excitement.
And you, now you were to be known as Gravity, the weakest of the four fundamental forces. But you didn’t mind, after all, you knew that your strength didn’t come from raw power, even before you ventured into this world.
Your strength is your audacity. Audacity to stand strong, even if you’re the weakest.

A Witch Life | Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Kerala, India—a state known for its mesmerizing backwaters, scenic beauty, and mouth-watering cuisines. The more Celene and Levi looked around themselves, the more they longed to show their own mates around this place as a getaway. But that was not what this was. They knew that as Celene rode in the back of a gondola Levi guided over the waters that flowed through the city.
The further they got from the crowds of people who emanated nothing but the mundane magic that so dormantly resided in the humans around them, the more they could feel the trickle of magic in the air that originated from an actual magical source. "We're getting closer," Levi said, his eyes staying focused on the course in front of him as he followed an imaginary path.
Lexi stood at the front of the boat on her front paws, posing as a cat to avoid human eyes. Her eyes as keen as Cami's, that watched carefully as the bird perched next to Levi. Cami's wings unfurled and spread as she carried herself into the air, flying just a few feet ahead of them before stopping abruptly. Her gaze stared in a certain direction, focused on an unseeable being far from them.
"What is it, Cami?" Celene asked, holding her arm out for the bird to return. Cami did that, perching on her arm as her head stayed focused on whatever she had spotted.
"There is a boat," she said, the response open-ended and entirely vague as she continued to watch. Celene followed her familiar's gaze, eyes shining a rosy pink as she saw past the illusions through her owl's eyes. There, she saw two other boats, three people in each one.
Levi stopped as Celene lifted her hand. "There," she gestured with her chin and he nodded. He rowed cautiously, Celene opened her palm up as a show of kindness. When the witches did not move, they took it as a good sign.
As they neared, they stopped a safe difference away and Celene took the lead at the head of the boat. Cami moved to perch on her shoulder as Celene spoke. Her heart pounded in her throat, pulse speeding a million beats per minute as her nerves tried to get the best of her. She took a breath and began.
"I am Celene Marcel. This is my familiar, Cami; my friend Levi Lambros and his familiar, Lexi. We are from Coven Hale. I think you already know why we've come," Celene spoke.
When the witches did not respond or drop their defensive illusions, she almost began to panic. "We've come in hopes that you would join us as witnesses to protect our family."
It took a few moments, but the illusions finally dropped to reveal the witches to them. The one who was obviously their leader stepped forward, a cloak on her head that she lowered to allow them to see her face. On her shoulder was a creature Celene, nor Levi, had never seen before. It looked reptilian, but the wings were a surprise to her that she would never have suspected.
The woman nodded and offered her hand, palm up as a show of kindness. Levi took that as a gesture to move forward. When they grew closer, the woman finally offered a smile. "I know why you're here. Forgive me for the theatrics, you can understand if me and my people are on edge."
Celene let out a breath of relief and nodded, giving her own smile. "Of course."
"Follow us, we will take you to our home where we can talk properly," she said, motioning to the people on her boat to continue. The woman guiding the boat nodded and began to steer them away. Levi followed and they were on their way.
As they finally reached the small village shielded from the rest of the city that looked as if it was floating on the water, Celene and Levi were taken by the beauty. They loved visiting new places, especially witch villages like this.
Levi used to travel all over before he joined Y/N's coven. It was part of his field, soon Celene would be doing the same; traveling the world to study and discover animals, take care of others until they can take care of themselves. It was a part of a creature Witch's job.
But until then, her focus was on keeping this coven safe.
The boats came to a stop in front of a house that was slightly larger than the others. Upon further inspection they saw that it was not a house, but a sort of conference building. Practically the center of the small village, a town hall.
There was a large plaque that above the doors that read, "Oru mahāsarppattinṟe hr̥dayaṁ śaktamāṇ."
A dragon's heart is strong.
In Kerala, India, there was a powerful and well-known coven led by Zyana Anand. Like both Levi and Celene, she was a creature witch. It was rumored that her familiar was a dragon, a rumor that was becoming truer and truer with each glance at the creature perched closely on her shoulder. The rumor that paired with the first was that her dragon was defective, that it refused to grow or simply could not. It was said that it was a symbol of the coven's eventual destruction.
But others would do well to avoid rumors as they spread.
The heart of a dragon is strong, and you must bow down its might. No matter how small the dragon is.
Deep within witch mythology, it is said that the origins of witches and magic came from a dragon. That dragon was named Celeste because she was said to have come from the skies and the stars as a gift to humans. As they had for everyone else, the humans turned against her and the rest of her dragons as they grew scared of her power.
She secluded herself and her own to keep them safe and a woman stumbled across them one faithful day. She showed a kindness to Celeste that she had not seen in humans for years. The dragon shared her magic with the unnamed woman, and when the two died on the same day as their bond was severed, their magic became part of the earth and attached to the souls of women-and eventually men-who were meant to protect the world.
Dragons, although it is not talked about anymore, are practically gods in the magic world because of this. To have a dragon as a familiar is nearly impossible, as they all returned to the Familiar World to avoid being corrupted or abused by the rest of the world.
For Zyana to have a dragon as a familiar makes her one of the strongest (if not the strongest) witch in the world.
The coven's crest was engraved into the door that they walked through: a shield that housed the wings of a dragon. Celene, Levi, Zyana, and another man who they assumed was her right-hand joined them around a large table in the hall.
When Zyana sat, Celene and Levi joined her. She smiled as she began to introduce the man and her dragon. "This is Sai, he's my right-hand. This is my familiar, Zion."
"And Zion's a dragon?" Levi asked, amazement in his tone that made Lexi growl at him.
Zyana chuckled, "He's more of an overgrown lizard." The dragon turned to his witch and huffed a puff of smoke at her. She laughed and ran her fingers over his scales before nodding, "Yes, he's a dragon."
Celene and Levi shared a look of interest before their attention was returned to the matter at hand. "You're here to ask for my help, aren't you?" she questioned with a raised brow.
Celene nodded, "Yes."
Zyana exchanged a look with Sai before she sighed and turned back to them. "Explain everything that's happened. Why is the war being fought?"
Celene sighed as she thought of the best way to recap. Levi spoke first, "Members of our coven, vampires, they have a child, Renesmee. She's a hybrid: vampire and human."
Celene nodded, "Our leader also has two children, a son and a daughter. They're both witch and vampire hybrids."
Zyana took in the information, nodding along to show that she was listening and understanding.
"A friend of our coven saw Renesmee for the first time. She assumed her to be an Immortal Child and told the Volturi about her," Levi said.
"That doesn't seem like the move of a friend." Sai's brows furrowed.
"She was scared," Celene said. "Her family had a history connected with Immortal Children. Her mother was killed because of it. She fled as soon as she saw her. Another member of our coven, a gifted vampire who can see the future. She saw that the Volturi would be coming to punish us for breaking the law."
"So now you are finding covens to help you fight a war," Zyana finished, leaning back in her seat with a less than ecstatic look on her face.
Levi shook his head, "No. We're finding covens to help us avoid fighting. All we need are witches to stand as witnesses for our witch children, and vampires to stand on behalf of Renesmee. We do not intend to fight, and if a fight happens regardless, we will not ask you to join."
Zyana's brow furrowed in thought, her finger tapping on the table in front of her. Zion turned to face her, chittering something Celene and Levi could only understand a part of.
A silent conversation was held between the two, which became a less silent conversation when Sai joined in. Celene sat on the edge of her seat, her leg tapping and her fingers fiddling. Levi set a hand on hers to try and calm her, but with Cami just as nervous, it was not as easy.
When Zyana nodded and returned her look to the others, she let out a breath. "Alright... We will serve as witnesses for your children. I will select a handful of my witches to join. But only if you clarify one thing for me."
"Of course," Levi said.
"Why should we help you?"
The question caught them both off guard. Celene opened and closed her mouth like a fish, trying to find the words to explain the real cause of this fight. Cami looked at her, wide eyes staring at her like they held all the answers. A tiny hoot and a flutter of her wings and Celene took a breath.
"Witches have been in hiding for centuries now. We have strong covens but...our freedoms have been limited more and more throughout the time since our last war. This isn't just for us, this is to protect the rest of our children. If the Volturi don't see us stand for each other, they will take it as a chance at a second attempt to wipe us out. There are hybrids all over-witches, witches, humans, vampires-and if we don't stand for the three that we can, we let everyone else down," Celene licked her bottom lip and sighed. "This isn't for us, this is for everyone."
Zyana took in the answer, reading into it in case there was a lie lacing her tones. But as she looked at Celene, all she saw was truth...and some fear and anxiety for Zyana's answer. The witch looked between the two and then nodded, a slow smile stretching over her lips before she confirmed. "Then we will join you. Call for us, and we will be at your aid."
Celene's eyes went as wide as Cami's as she turned to Levi, lightly punching his arm in excitement as she practically bounced in her seat. "Really?" she exclaimed. Zyana's second nod had her heart pumping as the confirmation set in.
"That's great!" Levi exclaimed, excited to be able to tell Leah about it.
Zyana stood from the table, taking her dragon and placing him on her shoulders, "Please stay the night. You can rest and leave in the morning to continue your ventures. Where do you head off to next?"
Levi stood with her, Lexi at his side as she stretched. "We all go to meet the Kai Coven next."
Zyana looked back at them, her lips parted slightly before she let out a sigh, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Father Acacius has already chosen a side."
Celene's excitement dimmed at the news, her shoulders slumping as she shook her head. "That makes three witness groups," Celene sighed.
"That means the Volturi also has three, that makes us even," Levi said. "And the Kai's coven is already one of the largest in the world, so we'd be outnumbered."
Sai spoke up then, "Perhaps not..." Attention turned to him as he raised a finger. He began to explain, "Acacius is known for his strict hand...but his sister has always had a kinder heart than him. There's still a chance at persuasion..."
Celene and Levi exchanged a look before they nodded. "We'll tell Y/N. Thank you, Sai."
He nodded once with a smile, "Let me show you where you can stay the night." They thanked him and walked away.
