Just imagine how put out Dustin would be. He's spent months and months working on Steve, trying to get him to come and play. It had been a personal, ongoing campaign. He used every trick and manipulation and wasn't above just outright whining about it. All he asks is Steve try it; just once.
Just imagine how put out he is when Eddie gets out of the hospital, and he asks Steve one time, and Steve says yes. But of course Dustin can't complain OUT LOUD, because he got what he wanted, didn't he? Steve's going to play.
Dustin makes this as absolutely painless as possible; Steve doesn't even see his character sheet until it's done. Dustin has him roll for stats. They talk about race and class. They talk about what skills his character should have...but he doesn't go into detail. he wants to make this fun for Steve, so he lets Steve pick whatever the hell he wants and when Steve calls his gnome Trip Hazard, Dustin doesn't even bitch about it.
Dustin corners Eddie ten minutes before their one shot starts, and explicitly tells him to let Steve get away with absolutely any and all bullshit. The goal here is that Steve comes back.
Of course Dustin has no idea that Eddie has been making heart eyes at Steve for literally years and fully intends to do that, anyway.
It's a one off, so Eddie has some fun with it. He's generous with the XP and everyone has two levels before lunch, excitedly choosing new skills and spells. After a mini boss battle they come across a hoard of treasure; some of it magical.
It's a free for all and everyone walks away with a fun new powerful toy for their character; Eddie's even pre made little cards with illustrations, descriptions, and the magical abilities of each item. He does a whole array, more than they need, but everyone gets one thing each.
Steve, hilariously, chooses a seven foot spear.
Eddie holds it together and does not laugh. He lets Steve do whatever he wants, and when Steve has a moment of madness and acts out his tiny gnome suddenly getting his spear stuck in every single doorway, everyone looses their shit.
The final battle though, that evening, rapidly because serious; an acid spewing black dragon. Everyone rolls initiative. The Dragon, with advantage, goes first, and the battle goes back and forth for several turns before, "the great beast raises itself onto it's back legs, mighty wings spread, so massive they fill the cavern," Eddie climbs up on his chair, spreading his arms demonstrably, "the dragon draws in a mighty breath...Will the Wise, your move."
The party uses their turn to attack, moving their little people on the board appropriately. Steve's turn comes and everyone looks at him..."I'll, ah, move, I think."
"Attack Steve!" Dustin encourages him.
Steve moves his little gnome, with hilariously oversized cardboard accessory, to directly in front of the dragon, the air in the room grows heavy, intent, "no attack...I set to receive a charge."
Every turns to look at Eddie, who frowns down at the map.
"It's on here," Steve volunteers the little card that came with his spear. "This counts, right? Double damage because it's magic, then setting to receive a charge is double damage again..."
Everyone looks back to Eddie again who, solemnly, frowns...then nods.
The dragon unleashes it's attack, everyone in the party taking damage. The dragon falls forward, aiming to land on all of it's feet again.
"Does that...work?" Steve asks hesitantly.
Eddie nods. The damage is so great when Dustin works it out, they have to borrow dice from Will to combine with Dustin's so Steve can roll them all together. The combination enough to fill his cupped hands.
Steve kills the dragon. Everyone is up, screaming and cheering.
Steve is the only one to notice when Eddie rolls damage; Trip Hazard is instantly killed by the crushing force of a dragons corpse.
Steve doesn't care, especially not when Eddie gets real close to whisper in his ear, "that was so fucking clever, I'm furious."

Road to 3D- Sam Manson (Part 2):
Character Modeling

Part 1: Model Sheet
Welcome to the second and final part of this project. Since people have asked how I do my models, I decided to make a write-up on how I approach these things using the example of a model of Sam Manson. The first part focused on how I make a model sheet fo a 3d model the second part focus just on the modeling. There are many more things about how to create a fully realized 3d character that I could make whole other chapters for, like UV unwrapping, texturing, shading and rigging, but I don't have enough knowledge past the fundamentals on these topics that could warrant their own seperate posts.
Additional stuff before I continue:
I use Blender for all my model
This not a beginners guide or something similar, it would be helpful to already know the general workflow of a modeling, how to use Blender and know different terminology like edgeflow, retopology etc.

My first step is always the block-out phase. The block-out phase is what the construction lines and the first sketch in a drawing are. I align the frontview and sideview from the model sheet I made in part 1 with the z-axis (the blue line in the images above) and roughly shape out the forms with primitive forms. For this I mostly use a cube with a subdivide modifier.

Having a modelsheet without the clothes obscuring the body makes it much easier the get the form right. The block-out phase is one of the most important steps, if it looks good than I have practically half the work done. This is also a good opportunity to practice anatomy.

After this stage I continue with the head. First of all, don't forget to add the mirror modifier so I just need to model half of the model. There are different methods to approach modeling the head, like sculpt the head first, retopologize and than bake all the deatails onto the retopologized head. I actually prefer to polymodel the head especially when I have a good model sheet. I practially trace the lineart from the model sheet by extruding vertices, once from the frontview and once from the sideview. The most important points are the form of the eyes, the mouth, the form of the face and the jawline. The head block-out is used as an anchor point for the shrinkwrap modifier so that the traced forms actually look like they belong to a 3d form and not 2d lines floating space. From this point on it's just connecting everything, pull and push vertices so it looks like a 3d head and make sure the edgeflow is good. (It's also helpful to know how the planes of the head look like) After that I add the eyelashes, eyebrow, eyes and the ears, now it looks like something!

Now comes the hair. For the hair I used the "curve trick" like mentioned in the video series I recommended. Here is a tip to save time: I choose some edges from the head, duplicate and seperate it from the mesh. I convert this seperated line into a curve and choose a beziercircle as a bevel geometry. This is now the perfect foundation to model the hair further. One thing I needed a long time to notice: To get the beziercircle to a perfect square or in this case a triangle lower the Resolution U to 1 in the shape options. Now I just convert the curves into a mesh and add details and the head is done!
With the head finished I continue with the body. Remember how I wrote with a good block-out half of the work ist finished? Well, for this step I practically just use the smooth brush in sculpt mode and smooth everything out so everything looks connected. Then I retopologize the body and that's it. Well, ok there is a little bit more to it: Before smoothing things out I join the block-out part to a single mesh and remesh it with the remash modifier expept for the hands. I prefer to polymodel the hands seperatly without worrying about the rest of the body because they are difficult to model. I reattach them later. Speaking of reattaching, I make sure that the connection points have the same number of vertices while I retopologize/polymodel. To ensure that, I often use the following trick visualized with a simple example ( which is also described in the video series):

I want to reduce the amount of edges at the bottom of this plane, for this I merge 3 vertices from the middle into 1 vertice seen in the left image. After that I can select the blue marked edges from the center image and dissolve them. The result, which you can see on the right, is a nice clean edgeflow with a reduction in the number of edges.

After modeling every part I attach them together and I have a finished bodymesh the work with.

Now onto the clothes, for this I use the model sheet with clothes as reference. Having a retopologized body makes it easier to model simple stuff like e.g. Sam's shirt. On the left image the marked faces of the the bodymesh already looks like a shirt. I just need to duplicate and seperate this area, clean it up a little and the shirt is basically finished. The more complex stuff like the boots I need to polymodel around the bodymesh.

With that the modeling part is done! Now comes the things I said above: uv unwrapping, texture painting, rigging and shading. These are whole other topics I cannot go deeper because I'm still learning how to do these things but I hope my little write-up about how I appoach character modeling was enough to learn one thing or two.

So this one all started because the visual of HST's outfit was so fun that I was possessed by a visceral need to draw it. Inspiration slapped me across my mind's eye, and much like a medieval knight being slapped in the face by a glove (which didn't actually happen, that's a myth that sprung from the throwing down of a gauntlet. but that's beside the point), I felt bound to take up the challenge. Which lead me to draw a few more, and then I ended up binding the whole thing.
(Also, I find it really amusing that the famous Terracotta Warriors were just storage for YXs stuff. And the gang going 'shopping' at various exhibits for gifts for friends/family,, like that sure is SOME window shopping! I can hear it now: 'Oooh I'll take one one those SMASH, and that SHATTER, and throw in some of those CRASH, they're going to love these! 😇'. All in all, it was a fun little read, and fun little project! :D)
About the Art
Because this was initially a one-off drawing I tried a new art style (and struggled to at least not stray too far for the rest). It was fun and helped me think more about shape and visual focus, instead of being caught up in the details.
The crow (based off of image ID: 4039963 from Rawpixel) and the red umbrella on the front cover were filled curves made with the pen tool. The illustrations' poses were based off of a combination of images found on Google and photos taken by myself.
Pinterest is awful for sources, but it would have been handy to pin the references I'd googled. Only remembered to save the one of a man sitting at a desk. (I deliberately searched for someone sitting with bad posture because YX is described as being "slumped" over the desk. I figure that since "the laws of physics held no meaning to ["cursed souls eschewed by the natural order"]", they'd also be immune to mundane things like discomfort from sitting hunched over for too long. Back pain images were a gold mine! All I had to do was choose one with lighting that would give me a silhouette.)
The Myriad Manifestations Umbrellas and illustrations were drawn in Procreate.
I opted for a more plain umbrella design because it's not (presumably) a fantastical weapon in this story. Though the initial version did have YX cradling the donghua!MMU.
For the scene breaks I inserted the images, pinned them inline as character, and adjusted height and baseline in the pinning menu to fit.
The author wrote one scene break differently than the others, using multiple empty paragraphs instead of just one. Following suit, I used a different image for that particular break. I wanted to reference vampires somewhere, so for that break I made two bloody spots resembling bite marks. The blood spots were made with a group of shapes in Designer.

On cover design:
Because the MMU is what sparks the whole heist, I wanted it on the front cover.
Earlier iterations involved a full cover spread with a man's shadow standing before a shattered glass case, with a plaque mounted on the wall to the left providing information. The plaque was formatted like a museum label and had the author, date published, title, event collection, and story description. I'd also added a QR code to it. Ultimately, I abandoned the concept because it was difficult to decipher what is was when only looking a one cover at a time.
My second idea for the cover would have been a bookcloth-only cover with a cut-out of the MMU on the front, acting like a window showing off an image of the MMU on paper below it. (Inspired by the work of a number of folks over on Renegade's Discord. Here's a few examples gleaned from a quick search: szynkaaa's lung cutouts, some of EHyde's books, and the front cover of Spock's massive all-in-one TGCF). As fun as that would have been to try out, I felt it didn't quite suit the style of the art so I nixed that too.
Eventually I landed on the back cover design with the Met exhibition webpage. At last, I felt that the back & white and simple-shapes-background went with the artwork. The webpage viewed on the phone is based off of the Met's actual website. I took a snip/screenshot of the Met's logo from the banner at the top, then looked at their exhibitions' pages and eyeballed it to create my own. (Threw in the QR because I wanted the easy access to the fic online on the back cover). I chose to use a phone screen rather than I computer monitor because it worked better composition-wise. And besides, while YX may be allergic to owning a phone, SMC is not. I imagine that she saw the news while on her phone then messaged him.
The front cover came together after that. An umbrella for the MMU, and a pop of red. One of YX's messenger crows. A black shape in the background similar to the back cover's, sort of creating a spotlight over the umbrella and placing the rest of the cover in shadow.
Trying New Things: Applying a protective finish to printed covers
Over on the Renegade Bindery Discord, folks have spoken about using a beeswax & turpentine/mineral spirits 50-50 mix to seal printed covers (thank you Kate). According to my dad that's just a paste wax, so he threw 3 different ones at me and said 'have at it'.
I tested them out using the same paper and inkjet I'll use for the cover. I was looking at 1) whether the paste wax affected the paper colour or print quality, and 2) the finish. After applying one coat each and buffing them out I had my winner. Then I applied & buffed two more coats to it and tested 3) water resistance by dripping tea on it. The liquid beaded up and wiped away without staining -- good, three coats will work nicely.
(Test results: Mystery paste wax from a friend wins.
The commercial SC Johnson Paste Wax Original formula (intended for woodworking) has a nice dry shiny finish, but coloured the paper slightly brown -> disqualified
My dad's homemade stuff has a nice shiny/satin finish and didn't change paper's colour, but it felt slightly tacky even after buffing it -- maybe I didn't buff it enough?
The gifted paste wax has a matte finish, didn't change paper's colour (in the image below this one has 3 coats. The paper is now slightly off-white, but still acceptable), and while not as dry-to-touch as the Johnson it was not as tacky as the other homemade stuff.)

When I print out my quarto covers, I print front and back covers side-by-side on the same page*, with some guides to ensure I'm cutting and gluing in the correct place. (The guides mark the boundaries of the covers and start of the turn-ins, and stop at the edge of where I cut. Before cutting I flip it over to mark the guides [see marks indicated in image below] on the wrong side and connect them so I can see where to glue/place book. Then flip it back over to cut, right side up.)
*I'm being economical here at the cost of possible warping damage. This layout means that I'm only using one sheet of paper, but the grain is running in the wrong direction (across the book instead of preferred head-to-tail/top-bottom). This could cause warping issues, but I'm OK with that. I'm hoping that by just gluing at the edges, instead of pasting down the whole thing, warping will be minimized. (I use wrong-grain endpapers most of the time with larger books anyways).

I applied the paste wax before cutting out the covers, working carefully to avoid accidentally creasing/bending the paper (which happened twice, but it was minimal and I hardly notice it). Doing so before cutting ensured that the cover material was completely covered. Even the turn-ins -- something I later came to regret. After all, wax is used specifically so that things don't stick to it. It made it rather difficult to drum on the endpapers because I was trying to glue something down onto a waxy surface. It all worked out in the end -- perhaps due to the fact that there were multiple layers of wheat paste which could adhere to each other, followed by being squashed in a press.

Rules (sorta):
If you want me to write for your OC, please give me detailed information about them. I wouldn't know how to write them if you don't. Character sheet and/or a picture would be nice. If you don't have a written personality for them, we can quickly discuss how you at least imagine them to act in the fic in DMs. I can also just give it my own interpretation if you wish, but I will charge you $2 for the extra effort. Keep this in mind.
For reader-insert, I usually write the Reader to be strong and determined, so if you want a more subdued personality, please let me know or I will default to this one.
For 500/1k word fics, love letters, and headcanons, please give me a scenario to work on. I only write one shot fics for commissions, so don't try to ask for a multi-chapter, please. I am busy with college, so one shots are all I can afford to write.
And tell me if you are okay with me posting the commissioned piece on Tumblr or if you'd like to keep it for yourself.
You can ask me for updates on your commission. But please understand I have a life outside of social media that I gotta prioritize (like my studies) so it may get delayed a little depending on how large your commission is. I also prioritize smaller/less wordy commissions so I can give them out immediately, so don't be mad.
I reserve my right to reject a commission if I feel like I couldn't do it.

Oh, wow, you hit the read more! Thank you for your interest! Okay, here are some things to keep in mind about my commissions:
☆ These are my character price sheets! I am not currently doing landscape commissions, but if you want a scene or background, we can definitely work that out!
☆ Payment is half up-front, then the rest when the piece is halfway complete.* (I currently accept payment through Venmo, and I will have my Ko-fi up and running soon.)
☆ I love drawing OCs, but I'm not limited to them! As long as I have refs, I can draw! (And I accept both written and drawn refs.**)
☆ I tend to draw on ~900×1200px canvases, so please let me know if you have a different size in mind!
☆ I currently cannot (and will not try to) draw the following:
Extreme gore/extremely bloody content (although I am okay to draw minor scrapes and whatnot)

► COMMISSION PROCESS
If you are interested in a commission, please DM me! You may provide as many or as little references as you got, since I can work with or without them. I will also give you an estimate final price and due date.
Once I agree to take the commission, your piece will go through 4 phases:
Sketch - You will have 2 or 3 rough sketches to give you an idea of what I will draw. Pick from the sketches for me to render, or suggest one (1) completely new posing idea.
Blocking Render - The sketch you choose will be cleaned and its pose/s fixed.
Color Render - The lineart will now have colors, highlights, and shadows.
Final Render - A final few layers of effects will be added to the piece.
My turnaround time for a piece is about 3-8 business hours (2-3 days) from the time you approve a sketch.
During the blocking and color render stage, I will provide an update during which to let you know how far along I am. You may request up to 3 major revisions during which. Major revisions include:
Pose
Hairstyle
Outfit
Composition
However, once your piece reaches the final render stage, I will only entertain minor revisions. Minor revisions include:
Color corrections
Brightness/contrast
Basically anything you can do on your first photo editor software
During the commission process, please feel free to bump your message, reach out for concerns, or chat a bit if you'd like! You will be informed of estimated dates of completion, delays, and other concerns.
However, harassment over my work speed, art style, and terms of service will not be tolerated and result in your piece getting deprioritized, put on hold, or cancelled without a refund. The same applies for when you cease communication with me within one month without prior notice.
While I draw during nighttime, I have my DMs open during the day. I officially take Sundays and Mondays off, so inquiries during this period will be ignored until Tuesdays.
► PAYMENT
My payment channels are through Paypal (international) and GCash (Philippines) only. My prices already cover Paypal and other fees, so the price I charge is the money you pay.
I will expect 50% payment from the time of acceptance until the sketch stage. Please note that until I get the initial payment, your commission will be put on hold.
I will expect the other 50% when I give the final render. Tips are not mandatory, but they are appreciated. Failure to pay the other 50% will result in a ban.
Special Prices:
You can pay 200% of the price upfront for a priority order, provided that you inform me of a reasonable due date.
You can avail a kababayan discount if you pay with GCash.
Refund Policy

► USAGE TERMS
The act of commissioning me means that you have read and agreed to my usage terms.
I retain the rights to publish commissioned pieces on my social media and portfolios, unless discussed beforehand. I also reserve the right to decline a commission for any reason.
Commissioned pieces may be posted on your social media and other online galleries. For credits, please use "AnneLaurant" or "annelaurant.tumblr.com". Credits are appreciated but not mandatory.
Commissioned pieces and in-progress previews will be hosted on my end up until 1 month from the time I finish a piece. By agreeing to this, it will be assumed that I can delete these works from my storage and you have retrieved and hosted your commissioned piece on your storage.
Commissioned pieces can be requested to be put under an NDA. You must state this prior to the sketch stage. Failure to state this intent means that you agree to have your commissioned piece automatically published on my socials.
Commissioned pieces by default is assumed to be for personal use only and therefore will come with my watermark. You may not remove this watermark in any form of image editing, e.g. cropping, erasing, superimposition, photomanipulation, etc.
Commissioned pieces without my watermark can be requested. Failure to state this intent means that you agree to have your commissioned piece automatically published with my watermark.
Art commissions for commercial use is subject to discussion and a commercial use fee of additional 100-200% of the original price.
Use of commissioned pieces as your "own work" will result in a ban.
Use of commissioned pieces for resale, NFTs and crypto, and data asset training will result in a ban.

a/n: idk how to feel abt this ole draft but i thought it wouldn’t hurt to post since someone might wanna read it. also, the title sucks, it’s a bit self-indulgent, and it isn’t proofread (english isn't really my first language pls bear with me) so... don’t expect too much but happy reading anyways!
You and Cassie were in your room and you were nervous out of your mind. You had a small crush on her when you first met, but you were sure it was a superficial attraction solely based on looks. Once you spent more time with these girls, you weren’t quite sure if your crush on the blonde was still superficial. You could tell by your heartbeat and the million thoughts that were flooding your head.
One does not get this nervous when hanging out with a friend. Or at least a friend who you were pretty sure you were good at faking your feelings in front of.
Maddy, Kat, and BB were supposed to be there but they all ditched. Maddy said she was going to be with Nate (which you thought was a lie since you all knew they weren’t on speaking terms at the moment, but you just let her go anyway because you didn’t want to put up with a fight). Kat said she had “things to do” and didn’t elaborate further while BB just ghosted. Leaving you and Cassie alone.
When you hung out with her, it was always in a group setting. You thought she had discovered your crush on her and didn’t want to be around you alone because it made her uncomfortable.
You got the memo. It’s happened before, with your former “friends”.
You let that thought pass while scrolling through Netflix, trying to choose a movie to watch. She took in your room through her eyes. You didn’t know it, but she was trying to capture every tiny detail of you. Every poster up on your walls, every trinket on your bedside table, every book on your shelves. She wanted to know more than just the surface, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask you. Instead, she settled with silently admiring you from afar.
You position yourself and the laptop on your bed and finally clicked play on something.
When she hears it start playing, she makes her way over and sits next to you. You hand her a pillow while she asks you a question.
“What are we watching, Y/N?” 
“Bodies Bodies Bodies.” 
“Cool.” 
She nods. Both of you are unsure what to do now, so you let the movie fill the awkward silence that took over. You decide to calm down. Or at least try your best to do so. With that, you let yourself pay full attention to the movie despite having already seen it before. 
You don’t notice Cassie catching glimpses of you. She takes in your eyes, the curve of your cheek, the pinkness of your lips, and your silky hair. Specifically, the way it lays and flows, how you unconsciously play with it, and how you never seem to do anything with it. The most “done-up” your hair had ever been, at least to her, was during the winter formal. It was curled, made to frame your face. Simple, understated, and perfect. She couldn’t look away from you that night, and neither can she now.
When the movie hits a lull, you finally look at Cassie, only to catch her staring right at you.
“Woah, why are we… Do I have something on my face?” 
“Um, no, I was just—just looking at you.” 
She sounds flustered as she looks away, averting her gaze from you to your sheets
“Okay. May I ask why?” 
“It’s just, I think your hair looks good like all the time.” 
“Oh. Tha—” 
You didn’t know she paid that much attention to you. 
She cuts you off. A habit of hers you’ve grown fond of.
“Not saying that you should always be styling it or whatever. You should do what makes you comfortable and all but,” She hesitates. “I can’t help but think of braiding it.” 
“Huh?” 
“You know those braids we have during pep rallies and games? I do those and I wanna see what they look like on you.” 
You knew, you even saw her do Maddy’s hair before these events. Some of those braids looked intricate. You vividly remember thinking that Cassie was good with her hands. 
God, you need to get your mind out of the gutter. 
The thought of her hands running through your hair always seemed enticing. You’ll admit you fantasized about it sometimes. Maybe this would be a good way to grow closer to her. And, let’s be honest, you couldn’t say no to her.
“Sure, let me get a comb and some elastics.” 
You got up to find these items and sat in the middle of your bed once you had them. You rested your hands between your thighs, unsure of what to do with them now that you placed the supplies beside you. The mattress dipped as Cassie positioned herself behind you, on her knees to get a better view of the top of your head. She combed your hair to get rid of any tangles and parted it down the middle with gentle fingers. Then she got to work, setting aside the left portion of your hair to work with the right one first. You began to speak, letting the dialogue of the movie serve as background noise.
“I like hanging out with you, Cassie.” 
“Me too, Y/N. Thanks for having me over even without the others.” 
You waved her off to indicate that she didn’t have to thank you. 
“Are you liking the movie?” 
In truth, Cassie was only paying attention to you.
“I am! I love Alice.” 
“She’s so funny, I love her!” 
Another silence, save for the movie. You decide to speak up again.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something.” 
“Yeah?” 
“Why is it that we—um, we never hang out? Like just the two of us?” 
She doesn’t respond.
Shit. Fuck, shit, motherfucking shit. 
Sometimes, you really should think harder before speaking.
“Sorry. I don’t know why I asked you that. I—fuck, um.” 
You swore under your breath. It was all you could think to say. She snaps you out of yourself.
“Hey, no. It’s okay.” 
She pauses, takes a breath, and continues.
“You never asked before. And I thought you didn’t like me so I didn’t wanna force myself on you.” 
The thought of Cassie thinking you didn’t like her made you want to vomit. Because the truth was that you liked her so much, it made you want to scream. To fall off a balcony. To hit something with a baseball bat. To do stupid, cheesy, romantic things that she always wanted from whatever guy she was seeing. Stuff like posting each other on your Instagram stories, wearing matching outfits, calling each other “honeybunch” or some other cringe-worthy pet name.
“What?” 
You asked exaggeratedly, dragging out the last syllable like a sitcom character caught in a lie, in a vain attempt to disguise the nervousness in your voice. 
“Remember when we first met? I asked you what your name was and it took you. like, a full minute to respond. And the last time we were all together at Kat’s house, you didn’t wanna sit beside me even if it was the only spot left. And it’s not like we talk outside of the group all that much.” 
You were grateful that you weren’t face-to-face with her at that moment because your eyes were freakishly wide. You didn’t realize that she noticed how you avoided her and how awkward you were around her. Regaining some composure, you mumbled.
“Thought you wouldn’t notice that.” 
“Well, I did.” 
Against all better judgment, you decided to just tell her and get it over with. People take risks all the time. You convince yourself that another one wouldn’t hurt. You unconsciously brace yourself for whatever’s about to happen.
“I like you, Cassie.” 
“Yeah, I know. You already said that, Y/N.” 
She says. You can hear the slight smirk in her voice, which will always be one of your favorite sounds. 
“No, I said I like hanging out with you. What I mean now is that—is I like like you. As in I have a crush on you.” 
Cassie’s fingers stop moving. You thought your question was bad? Now you think you’ve gone too far, that you were too blunt, that you fucked up yet another friendship all because you caught feelings. She could rip your hair off your scalp and you wouldn’t blame her.
The silence from her was unbearable. You tried to pivot, moving to face her, but she held you still. Her grip on your hair remained firm, not allowing you to turn around.
“Wait, don’t move. I don’t wanna have to redo this.” 
“But—” 
She interrupts you again. Using your words, she confesses. The words come out in a whisper.
“I like like you too, Y/N.” 
Now, it’s your turn to fall silent. You blink dumbfoundedly as it sinks in. 
“Wait. You—you’re lying.” 
She finishes up, securing your hair neatly with an elastic. You could feel the slight pressure on your scalp. Cassie moves her hands to the other side. 
How is she still so calm about this? 
"I’m not! I really do like you. And that’s why I respected your decision to not be with me outside of the group.” 
“The only reason I didn’t make moves to talk or hang out with just you is because I thought you already knew I had a thing for you and you got weirded out or something!” 
She couldn’t help but laugh at the incredulity of your shared predicament, especially at all the awkwardness the two of you could have avoided if only one of you were brave enough to have confessed earlier. You joined her in this laughter.
“What?” She asks, puzzled and in between giggles. “There’s no way I’d ever get weirded out by you, Y/N. I thought you would be the one weirded out by me. The dumb blonde cheerleader…” She trails off.
“Oh, god, no! There’s no way I ever thought that about you, Cassie. I mean, you’re—you’re thoughtful, attentive, smart, funny…”
She tried to stop herself from smiling so wide while she fussed with your hair. You trail off.
What was that word again? 
“You’re ethereal,” you whispered.
Found it.
She had heard all sorts of words from guys before, but it never felt real. It was as if they were reading from a script. But hearing it from you was the only way it felt genuine. She could tell you were speaking from the heart. You made her feel seen.
The absence of her fingers was your cue to turn around. Once you do, the both of you bashfully avoid each other’s eye contact. 
The air felt charged, You knew you had to do something, anything, so you begin to tilt your face to see her. But she cuts you off. Her lips crash into yours in a messy but passionate kiss.
This must be a dream.
Your right hand rests on her thigh as the other one pinches your own. The sensation serves to prove that this is, in fact, not a dream.
She keeps going, the desperation in her movements almost like a plea to explore you. You allow her to take the lead. She loosely wraps her arms around your neck while yours are now around her waist. She pulls away, both of you breathing heavily and warm all over. She whispers.
“I’ve wanted to do that for the longest time, Y/N.”
You look into her eyes, pleadingly, for a sign that this is real.
You look and all you can see is the love she has for you. It’s practically pouring out of her. You hope she sees the same from you because, by god, you feel it bursting through you. She continues.
“I’m so glad we’re friends but I’d be lying if I told you that I want us to stay like that. Just friends.”
This time, you beat her to it.
“If you’re asking me to be with you, Cass, then my answer is yes. It will always be yes.”

Good Client Guide
I've been asked how to be a good commissioner, and while every artist is different, there are a few guidelines that are at least solid rules of thumb. In no specific order, and with no real presentation to speak of, here's a list.
Know what you want, or at least have a vague idea in mind
Communicate clearly: do not be coy or make an artist drag it out of you. Include details, especially if they are important to you. This isn't like buying a TV, this is getting another human being to make you something that is only for you. This is about what you want. If you need to give feedback regarding work done, do so clearly and cogently as possible. You don't have to be a poet, just a person with an idea, so don't be intimidated.
Have references: Either have a reference sheet made up (even if you draw your first one, yourself!) or gather up some images of things you like. If you're working without a sheet, first make sure the artist is ok with that, then give them the info. I have had people come to me with little photocollages listing ”Hair similar to this, but this color, clothes like this, body style like this, shoes like this, but in this color, etc.“ And you know what? I nailed it for them every time. Once you have your first image, use that as reference for the next ones.
Try to make sure your references have everything an artist will need to work from.
Ask for WIPs on big projects, and ask for changes during the sketch phase: It is generally ok to ask for a WIP sketch on a big project. General etiquette is to ask for any big changes during the sketch stage, before inking and coloring get involved.That said, do not be afraid to ask for what you want. If, at the sketch stage, something is off, speak up. Be frank, but do be polite. Every rule also has its exceptions. If your character has purple hair, and the artist has colored it blonde, mention that. If they missed that little tattoo that is on your ref sheet, mention it. One thing, though, do not ask artists to work off of several conflicting sheets. The collage idea only works if you're just starting out, and it's confusing to jump back and forth between conflicting references.
Regarding artistic license: Ask if an artist is comfy with that, first. Some people genuinely like seeing where an artist will take something. This is lovely! However, some of us are very uneasy with it, and want a clear idea of what you want. Also, if you choose to let an artist create something for you, with no more input than the initial contact and concept, please don't ask for a bunch of changes. Many people think they want to be surprised, but actually do have a vision in mind, and become disappointed if they don't get a vision they never communicated in the first place. That isn't fair to any of the parties involved!
Be respectful of boundaries: If an artist says they are uncomfortable with a subject, do not push them to engage with said subject. Period, end of story. An artist also shouldn't press you to let them use any of your characters in ways you don't like.
Don't argue with an artist's prices: If you can't afford something, that's ok. We aren't judging you, we're probably poor, too. But don't argue or be rude about a price. “Wow, I wish I could afford that!” is the “If it doesn't scan, it's free, right?” of the art world. Please do not. Especially on an open commissions announcement or something, because at that point you're getting in the way of paying clients instead of just being pithy.
Pay promptly: Some artists take the whole thing upfront, some take half upfront and half after. Some dangerous fools don't take any money upfront, paid only on completion. Whatever methodology they take, pay at the time that you agree to.
Tipping: It is good form to tip an artist, if you can afford to. Most people do not know this. Artists often undersell their wares, and if you think its worth more, even that up with a tip.
Do not buy what you can't afford: Dear, god, the last thing I want to hear from a client is that they aren't eating or paying their bills to buy something from me. Please, take care of yourself and do not buy art if you are in danger! Food, meds and shelter first! We're out of a job if our clients die off, you know!
Be respectful of time: If you have a date you need something by, make sure that's clear, and that the artist agrees to that date. Generally, there can be roughly 24 hours of play in response time on either end, since both you and the artist do have lives. You may not even live in the same time zone! Both can be patient with that. And, of course, if either has an emergency or illness, that's different. Asking after something more than once a day is a bit clingy, but also, don't leave an artist hanging for days on end if they're asking for feedback.
While my words might have gotten long in the tooth, I would like to hope these are cogent in the majority. I'm blessed to do this work, and blessed with good clients, so hopefully this little guide can shine a light for anyone wondering how to be a good one, too!

Compilation of Various Changeling Headcanons of Mine
Been a while since I last wrote a massive list of hc's I have for a character, but I've been feeling bad for the lack of Patho content I’ve been sharing and want an excuse to talk about our beloved Clara the Changeling 🐀✨
Some spoilers for two of Pathologic Classic's endings are included in these, I should mention. Otherwise, enjoy!
Clara is a demisexual lesbian. I don’t need to do an in-depth detailed analysis to prove it, I just… know it!
She’s also neurodivergent, but in a way that makes it hard to give her a proper diagnosis. Really it’s most likely that she has overlapping disorders (adhd, bpd, autism) mixed in with others exclusive to those who’ve spawned from the Earth.
I’ve discussed this in another post once, but Clara’s biggest fear is her own body. A combination of knowing she was born from the clay and bones of the Earth combined with the truth about the world itself has given her a dreadful insight on how fundamentally different her physiology is from the other humans in the Town. Oftentimes she’ll feel different textures than what her skin and hair is supposed to feel like, and will need to stop what she’s doing and convince her mind that she’s real before the right textures return to her senses.
Is a tactile learner, and often prefers to show affection via touch (ex: patting one on the shoulder/back, holding hands, hugging, etc.)
The stress of her journey made her shed many tears, but now she’s become embarrassed about it. She’ll do everything in her power not to cry in front of others if she’s ever upset, simply saving it until she’s buried herself under some bed sheets or finds a lonely alley to cry her sorrows away.
That being said, if someone she cares about did find her sobbing and wanted to comfort her, she would throw herself into their arms and take in their compassion like a flea to fresh blood!
Clara was born with an innate understanding for very adult concepts and philosophies despite having the body and mind of a teenager. However, she finds herself preferring the conversations she has with the Town’s kids compared to the adults. 
For example, with Sticky and Murky she can assuredly engage in a long, thoughtful debate on the mystical qualities and immaterial essence of life held within some nuts they found lying the dirt, while with the Bachelor and Haruspex she needed to slowly and carefully explain to them why it’s wrong for adult men their age to bully a teenage girl.
I have many complex feelings on her bond with Alexander Block, but I do believe that after her meeting with The Powers That Be she chooses not to accompany Block on the front lines. Even if she wants to leave, she knows more than anyone that this world only exists within the confines of its setting, and thus she can only live within the space created for her and the others. Perhaps Block can leave, but just as she says to him in her ending, "You came out of thin air and you'll pass into nothingness."
She still sees the Albino as her brother, and will often times travel deep into the steppe to visit him.
Once the plague is quelled Clara eventually begins to form a new family unit by being communally raised; essentially moving about at her own leisure between the residences of the members of her bound most patient with her (Yulia, Rubin, Lara, and even Bad Grief on some occasions) as well as Daniil and Artemy, who are both willing to put their past quarreling behind them. Presuming the Termite Ending was picked, of course!
The Saburovs remain unwilling to accept the future granted to the Termites, and Katarina in particular still believes that Clara is her proper heir and has tried to reach out and bring her back into their care to start over. She avoids them like the plague, still not ready to forgive them for abandoning her.
If the Humble Ending was picked, then she lives all by herself in the Rod, with only the consistent company of her two surviving humbles and the Bachelor and Haruspex; the three having ended their feuding after learning the shared knowledge of being dolls, yet still haven't fully recovered from the trauma of it all. She sends letters to Commander Block hoping to hear about what the outside world is truly like, even if all he can tell her are what battles lay on the front lines, and is trying to defy her fated rivalry against Maria and Capella by trying to form an alliance, perhaps even a friendship, with them to ensure a good future for the Town.
Capella is the only one willing to tolerate her presence at the moment, yet is still uneasy about this new future the Changeling has created…
While Clara always preaches about her fierce understanding of the divine powers of love, she genuinely does not understand the concept of being loved herself. Thanks to her hasty upbringing in a cult, she assumes that it is something like a commodity: needing to be earned by successfully completing tasks, and being instantly lost if she fails said tasks. The reason her mood nosedives into dramatic self-loathing whenever she angers/fails the people she cares about is because she believes that they now no longer love her as much as they used to.
Okay those last few points were pretty depressing, let me lighten it up a bit. Clara and Grace often have fun sleepovers in the cemetery together! Or at least what weird teenage girls closely connected to death find fun, like communicating with the dead and expressing their feelings toward one another in a series of flowery, cryptic riddles :)
I can totally see her owning pet rats! They’ll cling to her scarf and ride her like a taxi as she walks throughout town, freaking out every adult she passes.
Going back once more to her complex feelings about her own body, Clara also feels just as strange about her gender. She knows her anatomy isn’t built the same way “normal” girls’ are, despite taking the form of one. Often she feared that those who knew of her unnatural birth secretly saw her as an inhuman monstrosity, let alone those who haven’t found out yet. But eventually, with the support of those closest to her, she learns that humans inherently do not fit into the neat, fantastical boxes of cis heteronormalcy and slowly embraces her unique form of girlhood, and perhaps may start experimenting with using other pronouns too.

one picture you like best of your chara: as if i'm picking one. but if I'm held at gunpoint and have to choose one, it'd be the 💋 one; which hot animated character kisses the screen so out of breath without thought? it's such a cute detail to me like, thank you tadashi for kissing me ♡

two h/cs you never told anyone I found myself rambling a lot in the tags so idk which hc's I didn't end up saying? but at the same time, I have a scattered brain so here you go:
Tadashi used to wear glasses and braces. This isn't to be confused with Tadashi being an 'ugly duckling' before (that's such an outdated notion). Tadashi has pictures of himself from this stage of his life, but he would not show it to anyone until he considers you a close friend.
Tadashi doesn't get angry, but when he does, you don't want to be at the receiving end. His rage was such a wild, violent tornado that he needed anger management classes because it wasn't healthy for a young Tadashi. (He has sent a classmate to the hospital before-) Nowadays as a young adult, it's difficult to get him angry, but he does have his buttons to press.
Tadashi was a former bot-fighter. Sneaked in a third one here. However, I can't elaborate on it as much as I'd like because this needs a post of its own. But the bottom line is that botfighting is different in my canon; it's more physical and personal than having robots fight for the people. It's more of street-fighting if I'm honest. I'll just leave it at that.
three things your character likes doing in their free time: 
doing anything, alone. Tadashi's thoughts are able to be formulated in his mind when he isn't around anyone else; he can hear his own voice. It's hard to believe this when he is surrounded by so many people on campus and is the face of so many things for SFIT but, he LOVES being alone. he can do things on his own accord, he can make mistakes, he can talk to himself without being seen like a weirdo. he can be, himself. some hobbies include: planting, exercising, and taking himself out on dates .. . :')
inventing. It saved him. He invented things at his worst and at his best. He understood it and felt understood by it. It's weird to say that about non-sentient things, but machinery just, trusts you to tinker around with it and it promises you it's going to be a great function in your life forever if you do it right just once.
hanging out with hiro :-) He's the only other person who truly understands him. both have seen each other at their ugliest, and both are nasty asf with each other as far as siblings go. the pranks, the bullying, the sabotaging one another in order to avoid chores, all those good things. but also the memories of sharing their baths in their younger days, the secret language only your sibling can ever understand, and the unconditional support no one else is going to give ... hiro keeps him alive. that is his brother and best friend for life
seven people your character likes / loves: more like, his immediate circle who has seen tadashi at his nastiest-

maemi hamada (mother, she was So ready to be a mother and aunt cass does not shut up about that :'c aunt cass and dashi bond over the strife she went through to get this far in her life and it breaks tadashi's heart)
two things your character regrets:
hurting hiro in one of his bouts of rage. he has physically hurt him once, one punch to his face out of worry (think about that scene in Arcane where vi punches powder), and can never forget about it ever since. right there and then, Tadashi knew he needed help.
as far as everything else goes, if tadashi were to die today, he wouldn't change a thing. "Maybe I have made mistakes and been through my fair share of pain. But all in all, it's been okay, I've lived well :-) "
two one phobia your character has:
fire. though, i wouldn't necessarily call this one a phobia but rather, an element that gets him alert. it does not intervene in his life and he can coexist with it like cooking and enjoying a bonfire, but if he is not in control of it, like smelling it somewhere and not seeing it, he will ask about it and not shut up until it has been handled or he can see that the fire is in someone's control.

wish list for the steam version of dwarf fortress:
let me discard a world when generation is done if i don’t like it, rather than only offering “play now” and “save and quit to menu” as options.
let me examine the world closeup at my leisure as you might in embark mode before letting me choose to play now, save and quit to the menu, or discard the world.
it should be possible to view, at least roughly, the lie of the embark area before spending points on preparing your journey, naming your fortress, etc. occasionally--but often enough to matter--the embark area is flawed in a way that makes a restart necessary
when preparing for embark, let me enter a numerical value for items rather than just clicking the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons over and over again. or at least let click-holding on those buttons do something.
it should be possible to edit the world in more detail, including bringing back the old world painter. i think some of this is actually planned for future versions, though.
but i would love the option to edit civ names and starting locations, edit or add gods to the pantheon, and name or rename specific areas or landmarks.
the tooltip that shows the details of the square you’re currently mousing over shouldn’t vanish just because you’re queuing up zones or construction or other orders
clicking on a dwarf’s portrait from any screen (like the labor menu) should bring up that dwarf’s character sheet.
bring back civilian alerts!
when choosing to specify a material for a crafting job, whether from the workshop screen or the work orders screen, show me how much of that material i have
alphabetize all materials and jobs lists. i cannot stress this one enough.
let me collapse the view of the contents of chests in the trade menu.
let me page down to the end of the current chest or item category i’m viewing in the trade menu
improve the dwarf construction ai. specifically, stop causing construction orders to be suspended because the construction area is a bit crowded. let dwarves build walls in squares they can only access diagonally (they will often build diagonally if the square can be accessed orthogonally, but won’t build at all if it can’t be), let dwarves build multi-level walls without awkward scaffolding in at least some circumstances, let me designate large buildings for deconstruction all at once without risking causing collapses, auto-convert a mining order on a constructed wall into a remove construction order, and let me queue up a construction order, e.g., a floor at the top of a not-yet-built staircase, if it will eventually be valid (as is already permitted when designating, say, a multi-tile floor extending away from a freestanding staircase). if nothing else, let me build a ceiling from below.
indeed, all relevant mining orders should be silently converted to deconstruction orders as appropriate; it never made much sense to me to begin with that “channel” and “remove floor” are, from the perspective of the player, two completely different actions. especially given that the underlying game logic does not meaningfully differentiate between natural and artificial walls and floors.
add keyboard shortcuts for “suspend” and “cancel construction” when selecting a building or furniture item
let dwarves climb down from trees on their own, and risk jumping off low ledges if the alternative is starving to death bc they’re stuck (dwarves can already climb in certain rare circumstances!)
don’t show blocks currently used in constructions in the stocks menu!
let me issue specific orders to specific dwarfs in emergency situations, e.g., hostiles are approaching and a wounded dwarf is not being recovered correctly.
allow me to choose which notifications to pause on. allow me to hide certain kinds of notifications.
allow me to optionally choose specific objects to target with jobs like “decorate with X”
allow me to filter lists of historical figures in legends mode and in the statue subject selection mode with types like “forgotten beast,” “deity,” “dwarf/elf/human,” and by other interesting features, such as which civilization they belonged to, whether they were the ruler of someplace, how many kills they have, etc.
add a map to the legends mode. have it both display relevant information and be usable as a way to find, e.g., battles or figures associated with specific sites.
in general the UI is much, much better, but it has a long way to go; its insufficiencies are more tolerable when the game is the (free!) passion project of a lone creative genius working in the ASCII wilderness. plus the new version fixes some things that used to really annoy me (like not being able to queue up constructed walls if constructed floors were present), and i hunger for more improvements along those lines.

in dnd/etc character creations, i think u should just automatically be granted a feat (like, [choose a feat here] so HAVING a feat is granted but whatever that feat is, is up to the player or whoever’s making the character) like either as a default for all ancestry&culture templates (u get size, walking speed, approx lifespan, and then the now flexible/customisable ability score increases....and there could be a slot for a feat) OR just like. level 1 of any/every class, a spot to choose and apply a feat.
im looking at all my ocs and i just............. it would go a LONG way towards adding Flavour and Individuality (esp just on the character sheet / generally ‘on paper’) to these dudes if i could pick a unique feat befitting my vision of their background, skills, values, combat style etc like i dont even necessarily care abt getting many bonuses or advantages ????? like yeah feats do that but im here for the Vibe of it all, being able to point at it like “hey this includes ~character info~ in a fun roleplaying flavour way, but also how that applies mechanically!! neato!!
it also makes this character, who once again fits the [class] & [background / alignment / ancestry] combo that i seem to keep repeating, feel DIFFERENT !! bc we all now from the get-go that he was a rigger on a ship so is good at climbing, whereas that one is not quite an undead being (altho being able to apply dhampir, hexblood and reborn details from lvl 1 without having to homebrew the entire “race”, class or background for the character WOULD be something i would utilise if it was part of their story that hey yeah they were already That Thing when they turned to a life of adventuring) bUT i did drag them  into DnD-land from Dragon Age:Origins and the Darkspawn Taint n warden-y blight-y stuff is very crucial to their state of being n call to adventure, and SHE lost an eye in her adolescence but later received an enchanted glass eye that doesn’t grant her like actual vision but dOES grant her “visions”/true-sight under specific circumstances/actions and i needed a way to make that Known, Obvious, and Mechanically Relevant ..... feats at creation / 1st level would do all of this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
could those things go in bio / other notes? and could i not just painstakingly customize the related ability scores and adv/disadv on character sheets by hand (and put the explanation/reasoning....where?) ?? yeah yeah sure of course. but with the way a lot of the online tools for character sheets, bios and general creation WORK it would just................ dropdown menus exist and get utilised for so many other parts of it, and now the actual cc “rules” and expectations are more customisable so like. whyyyyyy tf does one have to choose the “variant human” ~race~ just t get a feat from step 1?! it is Silly
