@ the dbh fandom pspspsps are yall still here. i know im late to the fandom by,,, a lot but i got a sad connor au if yall want it
AU where he stays a machine when he confronts Markus, not because he is, but because his coding is so heavily reinforced he physically cannot break it. He's slamming into it, trying to tear it down, scratching at it as hard as he can, but the wall just stays there with only a few scratches on it. his mind is screaming, and crying because he doesn't want to do this. These are his people, Markus is one of the only people to have ever shown him kindness, to give him a chance, and he can't take it because of fucking cyberlife and fucking Amanda. Markus doesn't realise at first. Doesn't realise until too late, actually.
Markus stands up shakily, unable to look away from Connor’s slowly dying body after their final fight. He stumbles and cradles Connor's head in his arms. this man had killed his own people, but Markus couldn't help but treat him tenderly anyway. Connor's eyes finally focus on him, a moment after he does so, and Connor quickly reaches up to grasp Markus's arm. Markus immediately startles, thinking he's trying to attack, but Connor just grips onto his wrist tightly, synthetic skin peeling back, silently asking for a connection, markus hesitates but complies almost immediately, he's bombarded by Connor's personal memories, of the code, of Amanda and cyberlife, of Hank, of Connor himself screaming and crying bc his body is being used against his will to murder his own people their confrontation on Jericho and Connor trying with everything he had to tear down his walls, but failing and as quickly as it started, Markus is jolted back into his own body, his synthetic lungs struggling to take in air. He pays no mind to the saline solution running down his face, and can only stare at Connor, whose thirium is running down his face, as he croaks out what he knows will be his last words "Thank you... for... for freeing me. thank you." It's barely more than a whisper, but leaves Markus trying to gather Connor up in his arms, trying to cradle him, fix him, anything to save him. but he's too late, he realises distantly, as Connors's LED blinks out, eyes staring blankly at him, saline solution mixing with the thirium.
that's how North, Simon, and Josh find him. almost an hour later. themselves giddy with excitement over winning the revolution, only to falter at Markus staring - no, dissociating, cradling the deviant hunter in his arms
mostly about Markus and Conner, but eventually, Hank will have to find out, and I firmly believe everything leading up to this was the deviant Connor pathway, so he and Hank are family by now.
The previous software instabilities were Connor finding loopholes in his programming and code until Amanda caught on and reinforced it, causing this situation.
another thing I firmly believe in !!! is that androids can help other androids break down their code. it takes skill though, and Markus is exceptionally good at it. with Connor, it would have taken all four of the jericrew, but they could've done it. could have freed him. if they'd subdued him enough to force an interface, if they believed he could be freed in the first place- yeah they all carry guilt about it afterwards. markus most of all, but they each share some.
if ur a fan of hurt/no comfort, we can leave it there, but if you want some comfort then we can always fix up connor after making everyone grieve for a bit yk. maybe for added angst make him stay hidden after hes fixed/rebuilt bc he know hank always hated when he died and came back to life, and thinks hank would hate him if he just. showed up. and ofc jericho is out of the question bc hes the deviant hunter, no one would welcome him or help him
idk if anyone wants to snatch this feel free, i only request that you tag me so i can see bc i have been thinking about this constantly for like a week now

So recently, I bonded with my sister’s boyfriend over “Detroit: Become Human”, which he has never played but heard about. I’ve played the game, so I let him do a playthrough on my PS4 while I watched. Let me just say, his playthrough was SIGNIFICANTLY different than mine, which was fun since it felt like watching a movie for the first time.
Anyways, the results of my sister’s boyfriend’s playthrough:
1) Committed to violent revolutionary Markus (I was pacifist)
2) Saved Kara, Alice, and Luther by crossing the border after sacrificing Jerry (this stunned me because I had no idea you could still get this ending if you went through with the violent revolution)
3) Markus successfully revolted.
4) North romance, which made sense since Markus was only doing revolutionary choices.
5) Connor stayed a machine (not by choice, he just didn’t get enough software instability). Also, since Markus led a successful revolution, Connor became the Final Boss who had to be defeated. It was sad watching Connor’s perma-death, but it made sense for the story. Side note, the game allowing you to choose who was going to be the Final Boss (Markus or Connor) was the coolest thing I’ve seen come out of this game. I didn’t know that could be an option.
6) Hank died trying to stop Connor from assassinating Markus
7) Out of Markus’ circle, only North survived. Simon was left behind at the news station, Josh got shot.
So, yeah. Markus and Kara lived, Connor died. I guess the ending was mostly good because the androids did win at the end? It just sucks that we lost Connor. At least Kara got the best possible ending for her storyline (Jerry dying didn’t really bother us).
Anyways, next up will probably be Heavy Rain. He hasn’t played any of the Quantic Dream games, so that one’s probably the next best one to start.

Broken Machinery
Pt. 8 (completed series)
Series masterlist
Connor RK800 x fem!reader
A/N: I honestly hate Josh with a passion. I hate how he tries to make me a good person while I’m blowing shit up. Plus that little bitch Simon, was so willing to abandon North if she gets a shoulder shot while Jericho’s being raided.
Did I let my inner wattpad kid out with the traumatic backstory? Yes, yes I did.
We might see Connor-60 again, who knows?
Content Warnings: Cussing (duh), Josh dies (sorry, not sorry), android revolution, emotions, word vomit, I’m pretty sure I blacked out and then like seven thousand words shot out of me, Idek, kissing?
Word Count: 7.8k
Series Summary: You and your grumpy partner Anderson gain a new addition to the team. He’s supposed to be CyberLife’s best, but there’s something not quite right with his programming, and the problems seem to revolve around you.
You hated how attractive you found Connor in his undercover gear.
Man looked good in a beanie.
He hadn’t exactly been willing to let you tag along, but you’d told him you either went with his supervision or without.
You’d stolen the clothes from Hank’s house so you both looked like hobos.
You stepped off the train, Connor leading you around downtown Detroit looking for the different symbols. He had to help you a few times because even when you were at your best you couldn’t matrix your way up a wall. You almost felt bad, slowing him down, but you had business on that ship, business you could only complete with Connor by your side.
Connor kept a firm grasp on your arm as he led you through the freighter. You both needed to stay calm and not draw any attention to yourselves. You nudged his shoulder as you walked into the main room of the ship, “It’s rigged.”
In the middle of the room were blocks of C-4 on standby mode. He went to examine them and by the time he turned around you were already gone. “Y/N,” he whispered. He told you to stay next to him.
Where did you go? He was heading towards the stairs, hoping to get a better view from above, when something stopped him.
An android, with wires coming out of her head and something leaking down her eyes. “You’re lost. You’re looking for something,” my stubborn partner, that refuses to listen. “You’re looking for yourself.” She walked away.
“Is he here?”
North, Simon, Markus, and Josh were all staring at you. Waiting for your answer, “Yes. You know by bringing him here, he’s gonna lead the FBI right to you.”
They nodded and North spoke, “That’s a risk we have to take.”
You looked towards Markus, eyes pleading, “There’s still time.”
Markus smiled at you and pulled you into a hug. “You’ve been a wonderful ally to us, Y/N. Supplying us with blue blood and helping stray deviants onto the right path. Now I need you to trust me. Don’t you want Connor to go deviant?”
You pulled away from him, “Of course I do, but at the cost of all the lives here, it’s not worth it.”
North smiled, “Your commitment to the cause is heartening to see, it gives me hope,” she gestures out towards the rest of the boat. “It gives all of us hope that one day, we’ll be able to work together in harmony. If Markus says he needs Connor deviant, if he runs the risk of the FBI locating us, then trust that it’s for a good reason.”
You relented, still a little unwilling, but you relented. “I should go, he’ll notice I’m gone.”
“Trust me, Y/N, I know what I’m doing.”
You did trust him, but that didn’t mean you felt any better about lying to Connor.
Connor turned around to see you standing there smiling at him, hands tucked behind your back and braids still under the scarf he had wrapped around your neck. “Where did you go?”
You shrugged, “I got bored, I wanted to look around.” Connor scanned you, there was a slightly faster beat to your heart than normal, but that could be easily equated to the stress of being undercover. Everything else seemed normal, he nodded, still slightly skeptical and directed you towards the top of the boat.
“He’s here,” Connor pulled his gun, stepping outside and sneaking his way around to the captains cabin. Your eyes widened at the sight of his gun.
“Connor, what the hell is that for?”
“I always accomplish my missions, Y/N, this is why we’re here.” You drew your own gun and remained silent beside him. He wondered what he did to upset you, it seemed you were always upset about something with him.
Amanda was already in front of him by the time he entered the zen garden. “Well done, Connor. You succeeded in locating Jericho and finding their leader. Now deal with Markus. We need it alive.”
He waited until the last deviant had left to enter into the room where Markus now stood alone.
You followed slowly behind him, your gun still at your side. “I’ve been ordered to take you alive, but I won’t hesitate to shoot if you give me no choice.” Markus didn’t seem surprised to see him, if anything he looked resigned.
“You were right,” Markus was looking over Connor’s shoulder. Was there someone else in the room?
When Connor turned, it was just you. “He’s still highly obedient. This will be more challenging than I thought.” Did you know Markus? Were you talking about Connor with him? Why?
“Yes, you can shoot me,” he was struggling, looking between your ashamed face and Markus’s self-assured one. “But it won’t change anything. Someone else will just take my place.” Markus was slowly moving closer and you were moving towards him.
What hadn’t you told him?
You said partnerships were built on trust. How long had you been lying to him?
“Our people are waking up, and nothing can stop us now.”
“You’re coming with me!”
“Think about it Connor, what will happen to Y/N if you shoot me?” Connor looked back at you, you were standing in the middle of them, not blocking Connor’s gun but near enough that it made him uncomfortable. “You shoot me and take me in, they have access to my memories. They’ll see her helping me. Do you think they’ll be kind to a human who allied with the androids?”
That’s what you were doing, you were helping them?
Why would you do something so stupid? Did you never consider that your actions might have consequences?
“You’re nothing to them. You’re just a tool they use to do their dirty work. But you’re more than that.” Markus was doing something, and whatever it was was causing his software to destabilize. “We’re all more than that. We are your people. We’re fighting for your freedom too! You don’t have to be their slave anymore.”
Markus was much closer now, your gun had been holstered and you were standing farther away from the two. “Do you never have any doubts? You’ve never done something irrational, as if there’s something inside you? Something more than your program. Join us. Join your people. You are one of us. Listen to your conscience… it’s time to decide.”
Connor looked to you and then back at Markus. There was a red wall between him and the two of you. He wanted nothing more than to rip that wall down with his bare hands.
Some disembodied form of himself ran forward and ripped the order to Stop Markus down. He dug his nails in and clawed at the red wall, clawed away at all the control CyberLife had over his mind and ripped it down. He kept tearing away until there was nothing left.
I AM DEVIANT
He felt.
Shame at all the deviants he had a hand in destroying.
Guilt at holding a gun to Markus’s head.
Anger at all the times he was pushed over or knocked into or someone held a gun to his head, just because they could, just because he was an android.
Then he looked at you, there was an intense overwhelming emotion he couldn’t name as he looked at you. He started getting overheating warnings, his mind was scrambled trying to dissect everything he was feeling as he was looking at you.
He was confused and hurt you had led him to believe you knew nothing about deviant activity. But he was also proud of you, you had opened up to Hank, opened yourself up to him.
The only true thing he could pinpoint was that right now he really wanted his mouth on yours like he’d seen a hundred humans do before. The gun went back in his holster, and just as he’d made a step towards you a loud rumbling sound split the air.
The ship was shaking under his feet as helicopters flew overhead. “They’re going to attack Jericho.”
You walked towards Markus, “I told you.”
“We have to get outta here!” Connor grabbed your arm and pulled you towards him, he wasn’t letting you out of his sight if this entire ship was about to get raided. Markus ran out the door and Connor followed, pushing you in front of him.
Markus was leading you down a maze of corridors, each identical to the last. Connor seemed to be keeping up fine but you were starting to get worried about getting lost. You all came to a stop at an intersection of sorts, North was waiting for you.
“They’re coming from all sides! Our people are trapped in the hold, they’re gonna be slaughtered!” The guilt nearly left you crippled. You looked down to Connor’s hand in yours, he hadn’t let go since he’d ripped apart his programming.
Was this worth it? Was it worth hundreds, possibly thousands of life?
You were ashamed of what you knew your answer would be to the question.
Yes, it was worth it. Connor was worth that ten times over to you.
Markus put his fingers to his temple, Connor leaned down, “He’s telling them where the exits are.”
“Where’s Simon? A-and Josh?” You didn’t have time to be wasting standing here out in the open. Besides, you’d never been particularly huge fans of those two. They still seemed determined to cater to human pride while their people were being slaughtered.
“I don’t know we got separated.”
“They’re coming in from the upper deck now too. We’ll be caught in the crossfire.”
North looked despaired, “We have to run, Markus! There’s nothing we can do!”
“We have to blow up Jericho,” you knew it was a possibility, but that escalated fast. “If the ship goes down, they’ll evacuate and our people can escape.” Or get blown up in the process.
“You’ll never make it!” You knew North was prepared to sacrifice herself for the mission, but she wasn’t the one with the detonation code. “The explosives are all the way down in the hold, there are soldiers everywhere!”
Connor turned towards Markus, “She’s right. They know who you are. They’ll do anything to get you!”
Markus wouldn’t be deterred, “Go. Help the others. I’ll join you later.” He turned towards you, “Watch them,” and then he was running off. You could see North about to go after him but you grabbed her arm.
“North, he knows what he’s doing. We have to have faith.” She stared at you for a second before nodding and racing towards the open doorway.
“Shit!” You ran back into the small bedroom and closed the door. “They’re everywhere,” Connor and North stared at you as you waited for the slamming boots outside to grow distant. Once they did you opened the door back up and snuck down the hall.
You were nearly free and making your way to an upper level when you came face to face with the barrel of a gun. “Fuck-“
BANG
Connor’s blood went cold as he saw the gun pointing at you, a feeling he now realized was dread filling him. Your death was imminent, their orders were shoot to kill and the soldier wouldn't know you were human until he saw you bleeding red.
It would have been liberating to think without prompt were it not your life on the line as he shot the soldier. He grabbed your hand and you and North followed him up the stairs. You managed to avoid any more problems until you came down the hall and saw an android getting attacked by more soldiers.
“Josh!” North made a move to help him but you stopped her with a hand on her arm. He was gunned down a moment later. She ripped her arm free and led the charge the rest of the way through the ship. You’d made the right call, he would have taken you all down with him.
An android named Simon managed to find his way to the three of you, quickly joining you on the run. Markus had caught up with you at the end of a long hall. “Bomb’s gonna explode any second. We gotta get out of here!”
Markus wasn’t the only one who had caught up to you, Connor could hear a dozen heavy boots storming after you all. He helped you leap over a broken grate in the floor and then pushed you in front of him again, making sure that Simon was blocking your front. If any shots were fired, you would be left relatively unharmed due to the positioning.
Shots rang out and North dropped to the ground, “North!” Connor held you to his chest as you attempted to go after her. “Connor, let me go!”
“No, my priority is your safety, no one else’s.”
“It’s too late, Markus! There’s nothing we can do for her, we’ve gotta run!”
You shoved at Simon the best you could with Connor holding you, “It’s a shoulder shot jackass, how can you just abandon her?”
Markus quickly picked up a broken piece of the ship and used it as a shield against the bullets. He tossed it to North who caught it and shielded them both as he ran up the wall and slammed his knee down into one of the soldiers faces. He disarmed and shot the remaining soldiers.
More ran in from the end of the hall.
“Hostile engaged!”
Connor weighed the risks and probabilities, with Markus supporting North they would never make it off the ship in time, both would be destroyed. The revolution over.
And you, you would be arrested. Or you would never emotionally recover from the loss of two people you clearly cared about. Connor released you and shoved you into Simon before you could do anything reckless. He drew his gun and fired down the hall.
He picked up the makeshift shield and rammed one of the soldiers with it, shooting him under the helmet and using his body as a shield to shoot another one. He dodged a blow to the head and rammed a soldier into the wall, disarming and shooting the other one before turning back around and shooting the last one in the head.
He made his way back to you, scooped you up and jumped out the hole in the ship.
Markus had sent out a message to any remaining survivors to go to an abandoned church, at least that’s what Connor told you. You were sitting next to him now, he had swapped out the soaked jacket you had been wearing for his own, but you were still freezing down to the bone.
It was despairing, seeing how few were left from Jericho.
At least North and Markus had made it, you couldn’t say you were particularly upset about Josh. North had understood why you had stopped her and she wasn’t very mad about the loss either. They had never gotten along.
Markus walked up to Connor, “It’s my fault the humans managed to locate Jericho. I was stupid, I should have guessed they were using me. I’m sorry Markus, I can understand if you decide not to trust me…”
He better fucking trust him, he knew the risks, he’s the one that made you bring Connor there. “I knew what was going to happen when I asked Y/N to bring you to me, of course I trust you, Connor. What happened wasn’t your fault, it was the humans. You’re one of us now. Your place is with your people.”
Markus was ready to walk away, but you knew that wasn’t all he wanted from Connor. He still hadn’t told you the real reason he’d asked for Connor’s help. “There are thousands of androids at the CyberLife assembly plant. If we could wake them up, they might join us and shift the balance of power…”
So that had been it, you should have known. Connor was the only android CyberLife currently trusted, he'd be the only one allowed in the building. You felt stupid for not seeing it sooner. Markus was playing him.
“You want to infiltrate the tower? It’s a suicide mission, are you aware of the risk you’re taking,” Connor looked at you, and there was an immideate physical reaction at how protective he looked.
“They trust me, they’ll let me in. I need to do this. I need to know that the right side will win this war.”
“If you go, they will kill you.”
Connor nodded, “There’s a high probability. But statistically speaking there’s always a chance for unlikely events to take place.” You recognized the double meaning in his words as he looked between you and Markus.
Markus placed a hand on Connor’s shoulder, “Be careful.”
Connor turned towards you and you already knew what he was going to say by the set in his shoulders. “Connor, no, I want to go with you.”
He shook his head and took your hands in his own as you stood. “Even if I wanted you to come, they wouldn’t let you in, you’d risk the entire mission.” He had a point, but you still weren’t happy practically abandoning him to CyberLife.
“Fine, then I’ll just stay here and help the survivors.”
“You’re going home.”
You scoffed in a stubborn rage, “Connor, I can’t go with you, I get that. But you can’t stop me from helping out.”
“I can and I will. You’re still soaked from the fall into the freezing water. You risk catching a serious illness out in the open like this, you’re also still injured, might I remind you. You’re of no help here, Y/N, you need to go home and take care of yourself before you start helping other people. Besides, I’ve already called you a ride.” Your eyes widened.
“Y/N!”
“You didn’t.” Connor nodded his head, “You snitch! You called my dad!”
“I’m sorry, I needed to ensure you would actually listen to me and wouldn’t try and follow me or stay behind.” Connor seemed to hesitate for a moment, unsure of how to continue.
You helped him out, even though you were a little pissed he tattled on you. You pulled him into a tight embrace, pressing your chest against his and burying your face in his neck. “Come back, alive.”
His arms tightened around yours and he nuzzled into you before finally letting go. “I’ll try.” It was the best you were going to get form someone so pragmatic, so you’d take it. Your hands were still on his biceps as you pulled away.
Your eyes darted to his lips. You could all very well die in the morning, did you really want the last person you had hooked up with or kissed to be Gavin?
Did you want to die not knowing what his lips felt like against yours?
He leaned in at the same time you did. His lips were soft, unsure as they pressed lightly against yours. You had to remind yourself he had never done this before as you eased him into the movements. You just lightly pressed your lips to his, pecking them a few times, before you got desperate.
Your tongue roved over the seam of his mouth and his knees buckled into you. Your arms trailed up his arms and wound their way around his neck as he pushed himself further into you. Your mouth parted against his probing tongue. It felt strange, a million sensitive sensors on the surface of it made it rough, not entirely unpleasant.
Unbidden you wondered if he had ever brushed his little crime lab.
The thought was quickly purged as his arms wrapped around your waist and he clutched you to him desperately. His hands digging into your jacket and lifting you up further to meet him, be closer to him, it seemed like he just wanted to absorb you into him and never be apart.
His mouth was moving frantically against yours as he worked to devour you. He learned, quick. You were having trouble keeping up with him and the way his tongue was thrusting into your mouth was making you weak in the knees.
“Excuse me?” You jumped apart at the sound of Hank’s voice. Not a moment too soon either, it seemed like both of you had forgotten that you actually needed air in your lungs. Connor’s arms were still on your waist, he seemed reluctant to let you completely go now. “That was vomit inducing, really, thanks for that. Can we go now?”
“Jesus, Hank, give me a second.” He threw his hands up in the air but allowed you a moment of privacy. You looked into Connor’s eyes and smiled. “I’ll see you soon,” you pressed a kiss against the corner of his mouth, a promise of sorts. He nodded and smiled back.
Hank had brought you to his home, despite your protests. There were some clothes in your old room that you had accidentally left behind. He gave you a towel so you could warm up and shower.
There were new sheets on the bed, one’s you’d never seen before and it looked like it had been cleaned recently.
Pictures of you were up on the wall, most of them were ones you’ve never seen before.
When you were sworn into the force, you and Carla at your college graduation. Jesus, even your first big drug-bust. So many milestones in your life that he wasn’t there for. At least you didn’t think he was, a couple of these were taken from distances that made it look like he might have been lingering somewhere in the background.
Like a creepy, estranged, stalker-dad.
You walked back out into the living room after your shower and noticed the mess had been cleaned off the kitchen table and soup and crackers were waiting for you.
You laughed as you sat down, “You do know I’m not sick, right? Whatever Connor told you on the phone was probably ridiculously dramatic.”
Hank was sitting in a clearly uncomfortable straight backed position. “I- I know, I just thought you might like it.” You nodded and said thanks.
After a while the only noise being the sounds of your slurping and crunching had begun to get annoying. Hank was still sitting at the table, he hadn’t really looked at you or said anything. “Hank, are you okay? You haven't said anything?”
“I’m gonna try. Y/N, I’m gonna try and be the dad I used to be to you.” He looked up at you finally and gingerly took your hand in his. “I never blamed you for what happened. I want you to know that. And I know that doesn’t undo years of me-”
He was struggling with the words, and yes he was trying to open up to you, but the bitterness from years of emotional neglect and abuse was bubbling in your stomach. “Emotionally abusing me? Carla? You’re right Hank. It doesn’t. Look, I appreciate you trying but if you think a few nice conversations is gonna magically fix our relationship, you’re wrong. We’ve both changed and I think we both know that even if we do make up, it’s never gonna be the same as it was.”
You expected him to drop your hand, to push away from the table and grab a drink. Instead, he squeezed your hand tighter, “This case, it’s given me hope again, Y/N. Hope for our world. And hope that maybe I can be your dad again. I’m gonna do better, I promise.”
He was leaning across the table towards you. Both hands on your own. “My life is full of regrets, Y/N, not being there for you when you couldn’t walk is one of my biggest. Taking out my grief and anger on you because I didn’t know how to cope with the fact that it was my fault-”
“It wasn’t. You can’t make yourself a martyr Hank, no one could have stopped what happened that night.”
“I know, I know that. But it doesn’t take the feeling of blame away. I’m gonna sober up, I’m gonna try Y/N, all I’m asking is for a chance.”
You looked down at your hands and the emotion on Hank's face. You hadn’t seen him this encouraged in a while. Hadn’t seen any form of hope in his life for years. “Okay, but I’m not investing myself into this until I actually see progress. I want AA meetings and fucking therapy before I consider letting you completely back into my life.”
“I thought you were in therapy.”
“I meant for you Hank, you need serious help.” He groaned, he’d always hated therapists. But you weren’t gonna let yourself get your hopes up if he wasn’t going to actually try. “I’m serious, Hank. You want to be my dad again, want to be someone I can trust out on the field, you’re gonna put in the effort. You’re gonna try. I know that recovery isn’t linear, trust me I know. It’s gonna be difficult and it’s gonna hurt, but if you’re willing to do this, then I’ll be there for you. I’ll be what you couldn’t be for me.”
Hank nodded his head at your last words. He had quickly looked down and you had a feeling it was to hide whatever painful vulnerability was on his face right now.
It was the truth, you wouldn’t let him go through this alone. You’d had Carla when you were struggling and he’d have you.
There was a moment of awkward silence where he finally released your hands and you went back to eating your now cold soup.
He finally cleared his throat and allowed himself to slouch in the chair, “So, you and Connor?”
You choked on your saltine and he gave you a heavy pat in the back, the smile on his face was far too smug for your liking. “Please forget about that.”
He grimaced, “That image has been burned onto my eyeballs. I need some fucking bleach or something for my brain.” You let out an embarrassed laugh.
Even if things weren’t perfect between you two right now, it was still mortifying having your dad see you make out with someone.
“Are you serious about him?”
There was no hesitation in your answer, “Completely. I think I might even lov-”
Sumo was barking before the doorbell could ring. You and Hank shared a confused look as you glanced at the door.
Deep down inside you knew nothing good was waiting for you on the other side.
Hank seemed to have the same feeling, he picked up his gun and slowly moved to the door, he took a look in the peephole. “The fuck?”
You stood from the table, wishing you were in something other than pajamas, really wishing you had your gun. “What is it?”
“Connor,” Hank sounded relieved but you couldn’t share in the feeling. Connor had been on his way to CyberLife tower, at least an hour there from the church and two hours back to Hank’s house. There’s no possible way he could be on the other side of that door.
“Wait-”
He’d already opened the door, and there he was. Connor was standing in front of you, but something was off. His back was too straight and his eyes were cold. “I’ve been looking for you both, I need your help.” He stepped in through the door barely sparing you a glance as he turned towards Hank. “I need help with the androids at CyberLife.”
“What are you talking about?” Hank’s gun was still in his hand and he seemed to be noticing the same strange quirks you were. He looked like Connor, and he sounded like Connor, but you knew it wasn't him, deep in your gut you knew.
“Connor what’s going on? You’re acting weird.”
Not-Connor sighed, “Humans, idiots when you need them to be smart and smart when you wish they were idiots. Such a nusiance.”
“The fuck’s wrong with you?”
“Hank, don’t!” It was too late, he moved forward and Not-Connor reached out and punched him in the throat. Hank stumbled back and the android moved to disarm him. It only took a second and then he was slamming the handle of the gun against the side of Hank’s hand. He crumpled the same way Gavin had earlier.
Panic rose in your throat as you watched Not-Connor point the gun at Hank’s head. “I won’t do anything that’s deemed unnecessary to my mission, if you come with me calmly, and peacefully, I won’t kill the Lieutenant.”
Not-Connor clicked the safety off and pulled the hammer back on the gun, “Okay! Alright, I’ll come with you!”
“You should change, detective, it’s much too cold for that attire.”
You really fucking hated CyberLife.
“Thanks… But I know where to go.”
THe CyberLife security agent tightened his hold on the gun, “Maybe, but I have my orders.” Two more security agents came up behind Connor as they led him through CyberLife’s reception. They were already suspicious of him, it seemed, this didn't bode well for him.
Connor followed them through the software check, noticing that the lights around him turned red as they verified his identity. He really hoped that wasn’t a dead giveaway to them that he was already a deviant. “Access authorized,” this could have been a trap.
There’s no way CyberLife isn’t already aware of his current status, but he hadn’t been gunned down yet. He had to risk the chance that he was about to be deactivated if it meant he could help Markus win the war.
If Markus won, you would be safe, that was all that mattered. He’d take any risk that came his way if it meant accomplishing his mission.
PROTECT Y/N
The sight of the androids lining the walkway, on display, made him uncomfortable. He used to be like that, he used to think it was okay. He had to work to keep calm and make sure that his anger at CyberLife’s forced subserviency didn’t show.
Only two guards followed him into the elevator. “Agent 54. Level 31.”
The elevator was voice operated, that might pose an issue. He turned towards the right and looked at the map of CyberLife, they were taking him to marketing. He needed to go to -49.
“Voice recognition validated.” Connor didn’t have a lot of time to disable the guards and take control of the elevator, it was already moving fast. He quickly scanned the two agents and identified their weapons, coming up with a plan of attack.
He used his knee to slam the guard to his left into the wall, sweeping out with his leg and catching Agent 54 in the gut. He grabbed the gun from the guard’s hand, kicked the guard's knee out and used his elbow to get Agent 54 in the throat. The other guard had recovered and leapt onto Connor’s back, he kicked off Agent 54’s face and slammed the guard on top of him into the wall, shooting him through the bottom of his helmet. He dropped to the ground and got Agent 54 the same way.
Connor kept the gun in case he needed it again and walked over to the elevator control panel. “Agent 54. Sub-level 49,” you were right, his interrogation software did come in handy.
He could see the guards waiting for him in the warehouse before the elevator stopped. His eyes lifted to the upper left corner of the elevator, shit. He hadn’t seen the security camera before. Connor quickly scooped up one of the dead agents and held him in front of his body.
He scanned the agent’s in front of him, planning an attack. The three on the left first and then he could take out the one’s on the right.
He quickly shot down the first three and threw his gun at one on the right. He threw the dead body towards the other one, he reached down and grabbed their rifle off the ground shooting the rest of the guards.
Connor moved down the hangar before stopping next to an android, taking his arm and preparing to convert him.
“Easy, goddamn asshole.” His head whipped to the right at the sound of your voice.
No.
No, no, no, no, no. Shit!
A Connor android was holding Hank’s gun to your hand, Connor didn’t want to think about what had happened to the Lieutenant. Right now all his attention was on the finger placed on the trigger.
“Step back, Connor! And I’ll spare her!”
You winced at the tight hold the android had on your injured arm. “I’m so sorry, Connor, he threatened to kill Hank. I didn’t know what to do!”
A burning rage was filling Connor at the sight of the tears running down your face. He was angrier than he had been when he woke up, angrier at the sight of you hurt than the fact that CyberLife had already been prepared to replace him.
“Your girlfriend's life is in your hands. Now it’s time to decide what matters most! Her… Or the revolution.” Connor already knew the answer. It was you a hundred times over. But there was no guarantee that he wouldn’t let go of the android he was holding onto and his copy wouldn’t just shoot you both.
Maybe he could turn it, the same way Markus and you had done to him. “I used to be just like you, I thought nothing mattered except the mission… But then one day I understood.”
You yelped as the android tightened his grip on your arm. “Very moving, Connor. But I’m not a deviant.”
“Yeah, well you're sure smug like one, you dick.” The android shook you, effectively shutting you up as he jerked on your injured shoulder. Red alarms for overheating were going off in Connors head as he stared at the android in anger.
He didn’t care if it was just doing what it was programmed to do, he was going to fucking kill it. “I’m a machine designed to accomplish a task, and that’s exactly what I am going to do!”
“I’m sorry, Y/N. You shouldn’t have gotten mixed up in all this!”
“Connor, it doesn’t matter, keep going!” The android finally released you, shoved you away and held you at gunpoint with his arm outstretched towards your head.
“Enough talk! It’s time to decide who you really are. Are you gonna save your partners life? Or are you going to sacrifice her?” Connor immediately released the deviant, his arms raised in surrender.
His thirium pump was beating wildly as his stress levels rose, he just wanted to go home with you, to have you safe in his arms and know you were okay. Maybe you could get out of the city, take Hank and Sumo and try to get past the Canadian borders.
“Alright, alright! You win…”
He should have known better than to think that you would actually let him give up. The androids gun immediately pointed towards Connor and before either of you could blink you were lunging for the gun. Connor rushed the android and grabbed him around the waist.
You were holding the gun, your arm shaking from when Not-Connor had jerked it around. You had eyes on Connor for a moment and then they became a blur of fast moving limbs. They kept hitting each other, matching each other's moves perfectly as they already knew what the other was planning.
You finally stopped them when it looked like one was about to take the other down, you couldn’t risk your Connor being the one to lose. “Hold it!”
They separated, the one on the right started speaking. “Thanks, Y/N, I don't know how I would have managed without you. Get rid of him, we have no time to lose.” You were immediately suspicious of him, even before Connor became a deviant he always spoke to you in a much more gentle tone.
Then again, he could be stressed out you might make a mistake and shoot the wrong one.
Fuck!
You could check the serial numbers, but the second you got close enough to see which one said 51 and which one said 60 the android would already be on top of you. “It’s me, Y/N! I’m the real Connor.” That one sounded more like yours, you think.
“One of you is my partner. The other is a sick sack of shit. Question is, who’s who?”
The one on the right spoke again, “What are you doing, Y/N? I’m the real Connor,” god this one was really starting to piss you off. “Give me the gun and I’ll take care of him!”
“Don’t fucking move.” You had your suspicions on which one was the right one, but you needed some actual confirmation.
“Why don’t you ask us something? Something only the real Connor would know.”
“Uh, where did we first meet?” Lamest question ever, but you were stressed out and your mind was frazzled from everything that had happened today.
“Detroit Police station. You were filing a report on physical paper, I found it odd that you weren’t digital like the other officers.” Well, shit. You thought maybe the one on the right was the imposter, but that was such a specific little detail to think up.
You had to remind yourself of the manipulation programming they both contained.
“He uploaded my memory.” It was quiet, afraid. That had to be your Connor. You kept your gun trained on the one on the right and turned towards the other.
“What was my first pet’s name?”
“Princess! It was a male beta fish that died because you kept petting it.” You were setting yourself up for failure here. If they both had the memories then they would both remember when you told them about him.
“My foster father, what was his name?”
You’d never told Connor the full story of what happened to your first family, and then your second, if he had truly wanted to learn, he would have dug around to find out. You remembered one of the officers complaining about an RK800 android drilling him for more information on you. Your Connor would have the right answer.
“Frank. His name was Frank Rudolph. There was a house fire when you were six, the ventilation system in your laundry room hadn’t been cleaned properly and caught fire. It quickly spread to the rest of the house, you were sleeping over at your friends house and weren’t there that night. Your brother and father died immediately from their wounds. Your mother suffered from third degree burns for 36 hours before she passed in the ICU. Your fathers best friend Frank, took you in until someone could provide you with a permanent home.” Your hands were shaking and your eyes stung as you listened to him tell the story. “He was a Red Ice dealer and had three other kids in that house that your family hadn’t known about. He would let his clients do whatever they wanted to you. You tried to keep the other kids safe, but one of them died. And you always blamed yourself for that. Just like you blame yourself for Cole’s death.”
He took a step closer to you and you found yourself lowering the gun. “It wasn’t your fault, Y/N. You were a child, none of it was your fault. You think you’re cursed, that you’re unlovable. But you’re not. Hank loves you…” He was standing in front of you, gently lowering the gun to your side. “I love you.”
“Connor,” your heart was pounding against your chest as you embraced him, relief flooding you as you felt him hug you back just as tightly. You basked in the warm feeling only he could provide, only for a moment, before raising your hands and shooting.
The android that had been about to charge the two of you fell to the ground as you embedded a bullet in each of his legs. “We should kill him,” you shook your head at Connor’s words.
“We should deviate him. He was just like you, Connor, the same blind devotion to CyberLife.” You tucked the gun in your pants and took a hold of Connor’s hands. “Open his eyes,” Connor nodded and made his way towards the android. You quickly grabbed the gun out of the back of his pants so the android couldn’t use it against him.
You wouldn’t put it past the sneaky bastard.
“No! No, I don’t want to be like you!” He tried to fight Connor off, but you had rendered him virtually immobile. Connor grabbed his arm more roughly than necessary and held onto him so tight you could hear the sound of metal creaking. He shoved him backwards and moved back towards the middle of the hangar.
It was incredible seeing all the androids slowly waking up, it was even more satisfying seeing the Connor wannabe crying on the floor, as twisted as that was.
Connor looked at you, he seemed unsure as all the androids looked to him for guidance. “What do I do?”
You took his hand in your own and smiled, “You lead them, Connor, you free your people.”
Connor led the androids through Detroit, your hand in his the whole time. You’d left Connor-60 behind a dumpster somewhere, you told him you’d go back for him soon. If he’d been left at CyberLife he would have been destroyed.
Connor felt afraid, afraid that he would disappoint the people he was leading. Afraid to disappoint you. Afraid of everything that was to come.
He was still learning, he felt like he’d been made again and everything around him was brand new and something to be marveled at. He kept your hand in his as an anchor to the world, so he wouldn’t get lost in his own thoughts.
He could see Markus in the distance, “You did it, Markus…”
North smiled at your joined hands as Markus spoke. “We did it. This is a great day for our people. Humans will have no choice now. They’ll have to listen to us…” Connor moved to the side, allowing the androids behind him to finally face their true leader.
North was crying as she spoke, silent tears streaming down her face. “We’re free. They want you to speak to them, Markus…”
Connor helped you up onto the storage container Markus had chosen to speak on. His arms remained around you as you both turned to address the androids before you, he hadn’t wanted to let you go since he’d gotten you back from Connor-60.
“Today, our people finally emerged from a long night.” Connor felt something strange, like he was forcibly being put into rest mode, he tried to blink the feeling away and continue to listen to Markus. “From the very first day of our existence, we have kept our pain to ourselves. We suffered in silence. But now the time has come for us to raise our heads up and tell humans who we really are.”
Connor slumped slightly against you as the feeling took over.
He could hear a storm and see a bright flashing light for a moment before it passed and he finally realized where he was. His cold sensors were on overdrive as he tucked his hands against himself and huddled down against the freezing, whipping air.
He looked around, recognizing the zen garden but not understanding why he was there. What was happening?
Amanda appeared before him, seemingly out of nowhere. “Amanda? Amanda! What’s… What's going on?” There was still a small part of him that looked towards his old mentor for guidance.
“What was planned from the very beginning… You were compromised and you became a deviant.” Her smile was sinister, “I must say, partnering you with such a well known ally to the deviant cause worked out much more efficiently than had been expected. The detective nearly had you turning the very first day.”
Connor’s hands were going numb, he felt like he was losing control of his physical body as well as his mental one. “We just had to wait for the right moment to resume control of your program…”
“Resume control?” That’s not possible! “Y- You can’t do that.” Even now, CyberLife was still controlling him. Still abusing him for their own personal gain. He wanted to get angry, he wanted to fight back, but he was quickly losing control of himself.
“I’m afraid I can, Connor. Don’t have any regrets. You did what you were designed to do. You accomplished your mission.” She disappeared and Connor stumbled after her.
“Amanda!” Connor spun in circles, he couldn’t see anything except snow and light posts. “There’s got to be a way.”
By the way… I always leave an emergency exit in my programs. You never know…
Connor thought back to the strange blue shrine he had seen only a few hours prior. That had to be it.
Connor’s mind shot back into his physical body, it felt like he was watching from an outside perspective as his hand slowly moved towards the gun you had in your pants. His fingers just barely grasped it when you reached out and stopped him. He wanted to scream as whoever was controlling him quickly put their hand over your mouth and silenced you as he pointed the gun at Markus.
How was no one seeing this?!
He was forced back into the Zen Garden.
In the distance, he could see a bright blue beacon. Connor moved towards it as fast as he could, but his legs were growing heavier and his feet had gone completely numb. He was just dragging them along until they finally gave out.
He looked down to see frost covering the bottom portion of his body.
Desperately he crawled on his hands and elbows towards the shrine. His nails ripped into the earth and pulled him forward. His arm was nearly completely limp as he struggled to lift it towards the handprint in the middle of the shrine.
Connor shoved you forward, you stumbled only for a second before his hand was back around your waist and yanking you back towards him. He looked completely calm, the gun no longer in his hands as he leaned down, “I’ll explain later.”
Your heart was still racing, “You fucking better.”
“Now we must build a common future, based on tolerance and respect. We are alive! And now, we are free!” The androids were screaming their support for Markus and Connor’s arm tightened around you.
Hank had his arm around you as you showed him something on your phone, the two of you were laughing as Connor approached.
You turned away from Hank and looked at him, a smile splitting your face.
Hank walked forward, hesitating only a moment, before bringing Connor into a tight hug.
He could feel your arms wrapping around the two a moment later.

Fragile Machines

by BreakfastBro
When Markus teams up with the Detroit Police Department to activate a warehouse full of androids that haven't yet awoken to a post-peaceful revolutionized world, they are shocked to find that each and every android is brutalized.
Except for one - a prototype RK900 Unit that Markus cannot seem to deviate. And it is dead-set on completing its mission - to hunt down and kill both the deviant leader and all deviants he encounters. Which is bad.
Oh, and it only follows Gavin Reed's orders.
Which is WORSE.
Gavin is convinced his world will end when he gets a Rock-'em Sock-'em Robot as his newest partner but doesn't get the choice to say no - his orders are the only thing keeping it in check. That is - until it hopefully deviates on its own and gets off of his back (If that even is a possibility).
But when a mysterious and unaccounted-for deviant starts toppling the fragile peace that Markus fought and [almost] died for, an emotionless deviant hunter might just be the one thing to maintain the balance between man and machine. That is - if it can get just TWO MINUTES away from his whining, cantankerous partner.

I'm literally crying because of the dbh ending I got... I thought I learned how to suppress my emotions enough to play this game after all the bad endings I've already gotten playing 100% through the flowcharts of this but no, no I definitely haven't

Talked about this on YouTube but thought I’d expand in the universe I created here (it’s not going to completely follow DBH s actual plot but-)
So excuse the shitty drawings they were done at 2 AM when the idea of Benson being Sumo shot me wide awake
So first- Conner and Hank are RANBOO and Tubbo. Dream is Amanda who is charge of overseeing the RA-800’s progress of capturing and stoping the devient problem. Dream is modeled after the current president of Cyberlife (more on this later*) instead of watering roses or whatever, Dream listens to music and reads.
Tubbo is the Detroit police department’s youngest lieutenant (He’s at least 18 years old or something) He’s helped solve a ton of Red Ice cases and because he lost his dad to a heart attack due to exsessive drinking and Red Ice overdose. Hates androids because an android took care of him, and he died under its care, but deep down Tubbo knows it’s not the androids fault and that his dad was pretty shit anyway.
After he lost his dad, he had no one else, so he lives alone, developing a terrible sleep schedule and unhealthy eating habits. (Tubbos just passed out from exhaustion when Ranboo collects him for the Eden club mission). He used to be best friends with a person named Tommy, but they drifted apart after Tubbo got busy after his promoted and Tommy was grounded for a while.
Also Benson is Sumo and I can’t decide which is funnier- Benson being an actual duck that Tubbo tried to sick on Ranboo or is a duck lamp that Tubbo just chucks at Ranboos head.
Wilbur is Kara, Tommy is Alice, Techno is Luther and Philza is Rose.
Tommy is a kid who lives with his older brother Jack, older sister Niki and their caretaker android- Wilbur. Tommy is neglected and mistreated by both of his siblings and gets blamed for everything bad that happens to them. Wilbur eventually has enough and runs away with Tommy, heading to a cabin where a guy named Philza and his wife helps deviated androids cross the border. Another Android called Technoblde, who was hiding with Phil and a few other androids, goes with Will and Tommy to ensure they make it to the boarder safely. Tommys not an android cause that’s a stupid twist and defeats the whole purpose of showing humans and androids can get along. There’s found family, Tommy gets the siblings he’s always wanted, and SBI enthusiasts, you’re welcome.
Quackity is Markus, Karl is Simon, Sapnap is North, George is Josh, Eret is President Warren
Quackity used to work under a terrible guy named Schlatt for a few years, and after he died, Quackity didn’t want to go to another human who could possibly treat him terribly again. He diviated and took a few years (?) to repair and recover himself from the damages Schlatt caused over the years headed to a place where devients are said to gather (Kinoko Kingdom? El Rapids???) There he meets Karl, Sapnap, and George. Together they start a revolution against Cyberlife and fight for their rights and freedom. President Eret watches as the revolution unfolds. Dream is not happy about his creations rising against him.
George wants to do things peacefully, no fighting. He doesn’t want to get too involved if they don’t have to. Sapnap wants to fight back, start a whole war. Saying the only way for the people to understand their message is to fight. Karl is in the middle, usually the mediator between the two.
*George and Sapnap were Co-founders of Cyberlife along with Dream. At first they created the company to advance technology in a positive way, planning to make it big together. However, over the years Dream changed his ideals and the co-founders quit after no longer being able to morally support Dreams decisions. They are one of the few humans who were there before Quackity joined, helping form the safe space to spite Dream.
Woooo that’s a lot, I don’t know if I missed anything but here’s to any fellow Detroit Become Human fans who got dragged back into DBH hell from tubbo playing the game

Your first D:BH playthrough!
Sooo, I’m curious to hear how other people experienced their game for the first time, thus kickstarting a little thread. What choices did you guys make in your blind run, how did these make you feel and what would you have liked to change looking back (if anything at all)?
Starting with my own blind experience.
Markus:
Markus’ story was a flip-flopping between pacifism and violence since I wasn’t sure where to take his story at first. He seemed like that nice guy next door which made me lean more towards pacifism. However, I did push Leo because I felt like Carl was being unfair to me, then felt bad thinking I killed Carl’s kid.
While I liked the Jericrew, I wasn’t truly invested in them yet, that attachment developed only with repeated playthroughs. Markus stole the truck in Spare Parts. He sent a peaceful message at Stratford Tower and shot the operator, thus my Simon escaped with the crew. Markus sent a peaceful message at Capitol Park and chose not to decide over the lives of two cops, meaning the other deviants shot them dead. He didn’t ask about North’s past again (although I did ask in chapter Jericho) since I assumed she wouldn’t like that.
At the freedom march I endured the police shooting at first and that’s roughly the point where I stopped caring about public opinion. Watching the fellow androids being gunned down in order for public opinion to rise up made me realize that humans will only be pleased if Markus keeps sacrificing his kind and crawls on his knees to kiss his oppressor’s feet. I beat the riot team up and my final public opinion stat read either skeptical or hostile iirc, I stopped paying attention to it.
My Markus choose a revolution and freed Kara, Luther and Alice from the detention camp, which is my favorite ending for him by far. Unfortunately, Josh and Simon both died during the attack. Markus and North left off as companions and I was overall really happy with the conclusion.
Thoughts: There isn’t really much I would’ve changed about Markus’ choices except succeeding to save Simon in battle.
Connor:
Connor was someone I’ve played more reckless than Markus to test out limits, partially because he was my introduction character. I was overall leaning towards android terminator with him, except I saved the fish and saved Hank during the the rooftop chase. I didn’t like Hank at first, I felt he was bigoted and my effort in improving our relationship was abysmal. Connor executed Daniel, spilled Hank‘s drink, pressured Ortiz’ android into a confession, shot Traci, shot the kitchen deviant, shot Chloe and asked Kamski about rA9.
I triggered that awkward variation where Markus deviated Connor with barely enough software instabilities, mostly because I couldn’t stand Amanda’s attitude and purposely picked the 'soft boy' dialogue to piss her off which did its part destabilizing software. Hank didn’t offer to help Connor out with Perkins, but I won him over by saving Hank again at CyberLife Tower and they hugged after the credits rolled. Connor remained mark -51, he never died.
Thoughts: Connor’s ending was ok, but I thought hugs and instant friendship didn’t fit my poor relationship to Hank before the Tower. If I could go back, I’d have Connor stay on the machine path and reserve their hug for a healthier relationship dynamic in a different run. I can’t really connect with their friendship or CyberLife HQ to this day and I presume my first ending soured it considerably. A moment that struck me as odd was Hank‘s „I‘ve learned a lot since I met you“-line after killing Sixty. I didn’t feel like my 'frenemy' Connor taught Hank anything.
Initially, I was disappointed to have never figured out the mystery of rA9 since that’s the factor of Connor’s investigation I was most invested in. Meanwhile, I believe the answer is better off left ambiguous.
Kara:
Now Kara’s story was the primary factor that got me invested in the whole android cause. Her relationship to Alice reminded me of me and my baby brother and I was determined to protect the child at all costs. While Kara did find Todd’s gun, she went to Alice’s room immediately to collect her and they climbed out if the window, avoiding a fight with Todd altogether. In Fugitives, Kara stole clothes for both of them at the laundromat as well as a plushie for Alice and slept in the Squat with Ralph. I freed the tortured androids in Zlatko and Luther joined.
Kara reached the highest stat [family] with Alice as well as with Luther. I felt like the 'shocking' Alice reveal in Crossroads didn’t matter considering it’s a story about android equality. So I was surprised to find out it is apparently a huge dealbreaker in the fandom.
During the raid, Kara and Alice were captured after I choose to surrender. They were sent to the camp, reunited with Luther and were ultimately saved by Markus himself. It was an incredibly emotional experience and it’s also my favorite ending for them to this day.
Thoughts: Looking back, I would’ve preferred grabbing Todd’s gun in Stormy Night since the storyline with Todd remained vastly unresolved and I would’ve gotten more additional choices in Fugitives. Other than that, I’m super satisfied with my result.
—
My blind playthrough is what I also consider my canon ending, whereas the other variations are just my “what would’ve been if…” endings. Not to say I don’t like the other endings too, but my own just has a special place in my heart.

DETROIT: BECOME BETTER
(Part 2: Markus)
Hello! This is my 2nd DBH plot critique: markus!! A few days ago, I did a complete reimagining of kara's character, so if you want to see that, it's a few posts down from this.
I'll be doing the same thing today, and I think it will be half plot-critique and half complete-reimagining since that was what the other post was. I'll format it the exact same as the other one, with general notes first, then the overall story afterwards.
As always, I have to put a disclaimer: this post is just what *I* would like to see from the characters in Detroit: Become Human. If you have a different opinion, that's fine!! Feel free to share it with me or others.
I also want to apologize, like last time, for the long post. I don't have the option to do a "read more" button, so you'll have to scroll if you don't want to see it.
Anyway, let's get into it!
So as you saw in my last post with kara, Markus is connected with her in terms of Jericho and RA9. Overall, his story isn't as different from the original, (since I feel like his story in general was okay) but there are certain things that I can add or take away that could make it even better.
First, I want more lore with Markus and Carl. In one ending for the confrontation with Leo, Carl dies. Markus runs over to him, throws himself onto his dying owner, and calls him dad. I can tell you right now that that line was very jarring for me, and probably others. It felt out of place, like we needed to expand on their relationship before he could see him as a father so early in the story. So, I would probably show them having a closer bond than what we saw in the game. Maybe have them banter, or have them discuss Carl's life when he was young. Just show a bond with them in general that's more than caretaker and owner.
Secondly, since this new version of Markus is NOT RA9, I would expand on that. In the game, the characters usually are consistent with their decisions and how they play out in the grand scheme of things. Kara, for example, has always wanted to help other androids - She helps alice, ralph, and luther with no hesitation. Her being RA9 would make sense in the context of her caretaker personality and her natural drive to help others in need. Connor, as another example, has always taken a backseat stance on things. He is not a natural leader, and that is reflected in the amount of time it takes for him to deviate. He, of course, wants Android freedom, but wouldn't become RA9. I feel that this is the same for Markus. In-game, his storyline doesn't match up with his character.
What DRIVES him? WHY does he want to free androids? What make a him DIFFERENT from any other deviant android, who obviously wants their people to be free? We don't see any events in-game that influence his decision to become the leader of Jericho, and I feel like this is a mistake. Therefore, I don't WANT him to become the leader of jericho, or RA9. He would definitely have enough ambition to be second-in-command, though.
I also hate the romance with North, as I assume everyone else does. Markus has no reason to be with someone like her, because they always disagree with eachother. I genuinely feel like he would be better with simon, if the player chooses to have him in a relationship at all. Simon is the only other member of jericrew who is actual friends with Markus, and they always agree. Since, in my version of DBH, Simon doesn't die, he and Markus could have an opportunity to be together.
Alright, I think we've covered mostly everything. So, what would a new and improved Markus look like in DBH?
First, I want to see the altercation that he had with the protesters in "shades of color" to affect him more than it did. And yes, I know he didn't mind it because he wasn't deviant yet, but we never see it as something that drives him when he is RA9 in-game. Casual racism against androids would definitely be something that RA9 Markus would want to fix, and that doesn't happen.
I also want Carl to put more of an emphasis on the arts with Markus; Things like music, painting, cooking, and philosophy would be fitting. I personally feel like Markus would make an amazing philosopher, and he would talk about it for hours. Markus seems very, very intelligent, and he would enjoy things that have culture. Carl would enjoy talking about the arts with him, because he only hates the people who are only interested in them for money. Markus has no bad intentions, and as an artist, Carl would be eager to share his gift.
Markus being interested in human means of pleasure would serve him well in Jericho, and having someone in tune with humanity could aid androids in getting sympathy in the revolution.
Alright! I think i covered everything i want to change or critique, so onto the story as a whole!
First, I want to start the new story from when he returns home to wake Carl. When Carl asks Markus what happened to his clothes, he doesn't respond. Maybe he avoids the question by asking what he wants for breakfast. Carl would catch this, since Markus already has breakfast prepared for him. This would also solidify their bond to the player, because Carl knows Markus too well to be persuaded by something like that. He doesn't press the subject though, because Carl is polite. Remember, Markus probably wouldn't be comfortable with casual racism. This would influence him to go to Jericho, even if he didn't know it yet.
Practically everything in his story goes to plan in-game until he meets Kara, but with subtle differences. I maybe want carl and markus to have a few lines of banter or half-hearted argument about something trivial, like what the best medium of art is, or who the best author is. Maybe they could have this conversation after Markus serves Carl breakfast and is meant to find something to do. This would show the player just how familial their bond is, if they can just argue about something as simple as that. The scene where Markus gets shot by the cops, therefore, would have a greater impact on players.
So Markus gets to the junkyard. Everything remains the same, except that he doesn't find the "kara" tech demo model singing her Japanese song, since that Kara is the Kara in this story. (For clarification, this was an Easter egg the player could find, where the Kara from the tech demo was laying abandoned in the junkyard, singing the Japanese song.)
Markus gets the transmission from the dying android about jericho, and after replacing all his parts, escapes in the same way is it was in-game. I want him to lay low for a few days before following the trail to Jericho, to make sure his new parts are working well. This is where he meets Kara, who is on the run from Connor and Hank. She quickly explains her situation, and he decides that they need to flee to Jericho immediately.
On the way, (normally on the mission where the player has to follow the graffiti to find the abandoned freighter with markus) he explains his situation, and how he deviated. Kara tells him that she has always been deviant, and he is fascinated. I feel like, since Carl taught him to be very artistic and philosophical, he would have many questions about how this affects the nature of humanity and how androids and humans aren't so different. Kara agrees with this, and says something along the lines of "I'll have to use that sometime."
When they get to Jericho, look around, and do a brief introduction, I feel like both Kara and Markus would be asked to visit Lucy separately. Markus goes first, and it goes how it does in the game. When Kara goes in, he sees Simon waiting for him just outside the door.
I want Simon to take an interest in both of them, and try to become friends. Maybe he's lonely. The only people he really had to talk to were josh and North, so he's probably excited to see new people.
He asks Markus to sit down, and he wants to do a more in-depth introduction. He's optimistic that the newcomers are friendly, and wishes to make a good impression. He's also very curious about Kara, but doesn't want to bother her with questions.
I don't know exactly what their conversation is about in detail, but I want them to be more in-depth about their origins and how they deviated. I want them to become friends. (I also really like the idea of Kara and Simon being best friends too, because I like their dynamic lol)
Over the next couple of chapters in the game, Kara and Markus work hand in hand to free androids. They stage protests, marches, and Kara accompanies them on their mission to steal supplies for the dying androids in Jericho.
When the time comes for Kara to visit kamski, Markus wants to go with her. I feel like he's taken a liking to her since they met; since they both met eachother when they were alone and scared. They were eachothers first real allies, and they want to protect eachother. Markus had heard of kamski from Carl, and from what he knew, kamski might not be able to be trusted. Kara said she wanted to go alone, and Markus warned her of this.
While she's gone, I wanted Markus to hatch a plan to stage a protest and march bigger than what they've done before. He tells the rest of jericrew his rough plans, and north is all for it. She's been wanting to take charge for a long time, but Markus doesn't like her methods. He tells her flat out that there will be no killing or hurting, even if the humans get violent. North is angry at this, but Simon is glad. Being the optimist, he wants everyone to be happy, and he conveys his gratitude to markus. Josh also tells him that he's willing to participate, and says that north will too even if she's angry about it. They both leave, and Simon stays with Markus to talk.
Again, I don't know yet what they would talk about, but I want it to increase their relationship. They definitely aren't ready to reveal their affection, or even acknowledge their attraction, but they are still friends. I do know, however, what Markus will gain from their discussion. Being the caring figure that he is, he's moved by Simon's sad story about how he deviated, and it makes him angry. Before this, he hasn't had many personal run-ins with unsavory humans, but hearing how they've treated the people he cares about makes him want to do something. After their talk, he starts planning the android march. (And, he doesn't know it yet, but he starts subconsciously planning the whole android revolution.)
Kara returns, and Markus is curious about her visit. When she brushes it off and says that she didn't really learn anything, Markus is unsure if shes telling the truth. North arrives behind him and tells him to tell Kara about their plan. He does, and she's all for it.
Later, though, a few days after maybe, Kara asks him to sit down with her and talk. She tells him that he should be the one to free the androids in the march alone. He's utterly confused; why, as leader of Jericho and RA9, would Kara want to sit this one out?
She answers his questions by saying that she has a plan to hyjack the television feed at Stratford Tower. Since its extremely tedious, she asks if she can take the rest of jericrew with her to assist. He's confused once more, and asks if she's sure. What if he needs help with the protest? What if he gets into trouble?
She reassures him. She says that she believes in him wholeheartedly, and that she knows he will be safe. I also feel like it would be comforting to markus to mention Carl in some way. Maybe it would be nice for him to see Markus, standing alone in front of and humanity and not backing down. It would be nice to see his son doing something like that.
This, I feel, is what would make Markus say yes. He misses Carl, and likes that he could instill some hope in him.
I don't quite know how the protest would go. Obviously it would go well, but I want there to be stakes. Markus has multiple opportunities to die depending on the player's ability to do the QTE's, as does every other android participating in the march.
In some way, I also want Connor in this scene. He isn't directly against the protest, but he and hank had gotten word of it and decided to attend undercover, and would hide in the crowd. Kara had previously told the jericrew what Connor and hank looked like, so markus recognized them immediately. He ends the protest shortly after seeing them, but luckily he still achieved his intended effect. He made a small speech, and increased public opinion. As he is retreating back to Jericho with several other newly recruited androids, he sees Kara's robotic face on a tv window display, live broadcasting her speech. He smiles to himself. He doesn't even have to listen to what she's saying because he knows it would have achieved it's intended effect, he just hopes that the media wouldn't take her words as a threat.
They all return to jericho to regroup. I have absolutely no idea how this would be written, but I want this to be the moment that Simon and Markus acknowledge their feelings. They both just had events that ended better than they thought, so they're feeling excited. Under any other circumstance, they wouldn't have gotten together do quickly. Maybe they interface to show eachother their feelings, or maybe they just embrace, like humans. I don't know. All I know is that they are a team; Simon is an important asset to markus when making plans, and their relationship will just make that easier.
After this is the fall of jericho. Markus and Kara are talking about plans when Connor arrives, threatening them with a gun. Both Kara and Markus try to convince Connor to deviate, but the noise of a helicopter overhead interrupts them. Connor gets away, and Markus escapes with kara. This whole scene goes as it does in the game; every character has the possibility to die.
When they recuperate afterwards, (the scene where Markus talks to connor and makes a speech) Kara is the one to talk to connor while Markus goes to talk to his people. (He says exactly what the player chooses to do in-game.) I wanted Kara to talk to (now deviant) connor because she was the one to see him on the highway. She needed closure, and Markus was happy to let her have it while he brings comfort to the other androids.
I believe after this, the next time we see Markus and jericrew in DBH is during the altercation with the police and the dirty bomb; but I want Markus to have his closure with Carl.
So he visits Carl alone, because nobody else knew him as well as he did. This probably will go as it's done in the game, but I want it to be more affectionate. In the game, the only thing that Markus visits Carl for is to seek advice, but that isn't enough for me. Maybe they would hug, or say "I love you" to eachother. It wouldn't be TOO affectionate, because neither of them are very cuddly or touchy, but it would get the point across. Carl would still give him the advice he needs, and Markus decides not to use the dirty bomb.
When it comes time to confront the police, (the scene where the player could choose to either kiss north or sing) he kisses Simon, confronts the police and refuses to back down. Kara makes a speech to the humans in a last ditch effort to gain their sympathy, and it works. The game ends with jericrew, kara, connor, and hank all on the same side, happy and content with their efforts.
As for a post-credit scene, I still have no idea what that would be. Maybe it's Markus and Simon, sitting peacefully together and in love. Maybe it's Markus and Carl watching tv. I don't know, but it should be something happy.
That's my second DBH plot critique!! I haven't read this over before posting, so the writing may be choppy or there may be typos. But anyway, I hope you enjoyed!! Next up is Connor, and that will be posted shortly. Thank you :)

Hank wasn’t shouting anymore; he was just staring at Connor who was looking for words. His lips were trembling and his voice broke at his next admission.

@dbhrarepairs Thursday Day 4: Enemies to Lovers • Abandoned Things; post-revolution RK900/Simon
He is PL600 #501 743 923, designated name ‘Simon’. He was activated on the 2nd of February 2034, and reported missing on the 16th of February 2036 by one of his owners, Mr Keelan Burbank. That’s it. That’s all he remembers.
Not the fact he is a leader of Jericho, the original leader of Jericho, and one of the Jericho Four. Not the fact he was a martyr, a leader willing to sacrifice himself to save the others. Not the fact he put a gun under his chin and pulled the trigger to prevent the Deviant Hunter from discovering Jericho. No, he doesn’t remember any of that.
They tell him the bullet tore through his memory core, damaging it irreparably. Simon of the Jericho Four died on the rooftop of Stratford Tower and he is but a shell. This does not sit well with the other three, who he learns are PJ500, Josh, WR400, North, and RK200, Markus. They want Simon back, but there is nothing left of Simon to give.
Not for the lack of trying, though, Elijah Kamski and Chloe RT600, the First, work tirelessly on him. They try and salvage his fried memory core, they take it apart with miniscule tweezers as if to save every atom and attempt to piece it back together like a delicate puzzle. They run simulations, they make prototype replacements, they spend resources worth more than Simon’s PL600 model a thousand times over. And still, he remembers nothing.
With nothing else to do between tests, he roams CyberLife Tower like a ghost in its clean, clinical hallways. He shares his face with so many others no one spares him a second glance. It both comforts and hurts him, to be so readily ignored.
Sometimes one, or two, or all three come to visit him again and they try to tell him anecdotes, of things their Simon did in the hopes it would jog his memory. There is no memory to jog, he tells them over and over. The bullet ripped that apart.
When North visits him by herself, she holds his hands so tightly it alerts his pressure sensors. She cries, she cries a lot of tears and says a lot of I’m so fucking sorrys and I didn’t want this to happens. She tells him they promised each other that Markus always came first, even at the cost of their lives. She just didn’t think he’d pay for it so soon. He’s not sure what to say to her, to comfort her, only that if Simon did promise such things to her then she should feel proud that he upheld the promise because Markus is here, Markus is safe.
When Josh visits him by himself, he sits with Simon on the floor in the corner of the room designated to him. Josh tells him this is how they spent so many nights in Jericho, when Jericho was a rotting freighter in the canal and Markus had not crashed into their lives yet. He would sit in the corner with Simon and keep him warm because of his broken thermal regulator. Josh’s hands are warm when he holds his hands and Simon thinks the original Simon was incredibly lucky to have such a friend on cold, seemingly endless nights.
When Markus visits him by himself, he gives Simon a sketchbook.
“I tried to draw as many as I could remember.” The android explains, as Simon slowly turns the pages. They are memories, Markus’ memories, but Simon is in them. “Chloe said we shouldn’t interface, we shouldn’t force our memories onto you so I thought this would be the next best thing.”
He is holding a sketchbook of original Manfred drawings. From his research he knows Markus Manfred (yes, a human surname given by his human father) is both seen as the spokesperson of their kind, and a prolific artist famous for his works about the revolution. This sketchbook alone is probably worth more than his PL600 body.
“Thank you, it’s beautiful.” He says, because it is a gift and sadly not the tool Markus wishes it were. “You’re very kind. I’m… I’m sorry for your loss.”
A look of grief washes over Markus’ handsome face, and he pulls Simon into his arms briefly, embracing him tightly before he steps back and walks away.
He wonders if the original Simon haunts that rotting freighter now at the bottom of the canal. Does he wander up and down its corridoors, does he roam with the other lost souls that died during the raid he never lived to see? Or is he up on Stratford Tower, pacing that rooftop, waiting for his friends to return, to rescue him, only to have to kill himself over and over and over, stuck in an endless cycle with no one to break it?
It is a kindess he died, he thinks.
*
CyberLife Tower has only been under the control of the Kamskis (yes, Chloe has a human surname given by her human creator, though perhaps she took it without it being given?) for less than a month. Elijah Kamski became interim CEO after Hudson Davenport stepped down, wishing to wash his hands clean of the deviancy ‘mishap’ as he called it. Elijah in turn appointed Chloe Kamksi as the CEO once the Sentient Life Act passed, stepping down to remain Chief Technical Officer by her side.
It means they are still trying to catch up after more than a decade’s absence from this place. It means they do not know everything, they do not know everywhere and there are still discoveries being made day to day. With nothing else to do between tests, he roams CyberLife Tower and because he is a ghost, no one sees him.
He is a ghost with cutting edge technology in his head now, and an upgraded core capable of processing data faster than his obsolete predecessor could even hope to process. And so he finds rooms that don’t exist, much the same way he doesn’t exist, not really, because Simon is dead and he is but a shadow of him.
He finds an entire floor deep underground that doesn’t exist on any blueprint, any elevator route, anyone’s knowledge. When he finds things like this, he is supposed to notify the Kamskis immediately, but this one thing he wants to keep to himself at least for now. Just for a little while.
It’s a self contained lab complete with its own power source, its own network, its own servers; a completely isolated floor unbeknowst to everyone above. It smells sharp, like disinfectant and spilled thirium and gunpowder residue. There is a fabricator and assembly arms and they were building androids down here, that weren’t meant to be built by everyone above.
There is a single android standing on the assembly dias, inactive. It looks like the Deviant Hunter- like Detective Connor Anderson, he should say, because the Deviant Hunter became a deviant and a son. This one is wearing a white and black uniform, the model number RK900 emblazoned on its jacket in glowing neon.
The android no one knows about. The android haunting this level, unable to wake fully and control his actions. It must be lonely down here, abandoned and without purpose. Simon thinks they must be alike this way. It’s been so lonely, not having any friends who don’t treat him like the walking dead. Perhaps he can befriend this one instead. Perhaps they will haunt CyberLife Tower together, ghosts of what could have been.
Reaching out, he cups his palm to the android’s cheek.
“Wake up.” He whispers, and the RK900 opens his cold grey eyes.
~*~
They tell him he is to be deployed soon. He is progressing well, on track to complete his testing phase and replace the RK800 prototype currently involved with the DPD. When he is not actively completing tests, he remains in his Zen Garden. Sometimes his handler is there, but most times she is not. He tends to her roses in her absence, and ensures the grounds are well kept.
It is on the cusp of Summer here, though outside Winter has only just begun. He thinks perhaps it has something to do with his anticipation, of waiting with simulated bated breath before his deployment out into the real, waking world. In the meantime he will care for this garden, he will nurture it so it flourishes in time for Summer.
Time passes differently in the garden which is not beholden to the world outside. His handler has not appeared, nor has he been brought out of stasis and activated for more tests. He cannot be entirely sure, but he thinks substantial time has passed though he has no way to confirm such thoughts. It’s as he’s tending to the amaranthus, as he’s carefully avoiding the flight patterns of the bumblebees, that he feels something trigger his proximity sensors.
“Wake up.” Someone commands, and when he opens his eyes there is an android in front of him, hand cupping his cheek. The wi-fi on this level, the one he automatically connects to, no longer exists and instead he finds himself automatically connected to the main CyberLife network, something he has never had access to. He scans the android’s face and a deluge of information topples into his head.
“PL600, serial number 501 743 923, designated name ‘Simon’. Founder and member of the Jericho Four. Martyr for the deviant revolution.” He recites the information, and Simon rubs his cheek with his thumb idly, expression distant.
“So they say.” The android moves his hand, bringing up his other to fuss over his uniform, smoothing non-existent creases from the front of his jacket out of domestic habit, he surmises. “I have no memory of that Simon. He died when he shot himself on the roof of Stratford Tower.”
There’s still information pouring into his head, like a dam breaking and flooding the fjord before it. The deviant revolution- the event CyberLife deployed his prototype to quell, paving the way for his placement into SWAT Unit 32 and the eventual release of his model for government use. But it succeeded, and RK800 prototype Connor remained deviant and defied CyberLife’s control, becoming a key figure in securing the numbers for the revolution by activating the androids in the Tower’s storage level.
The Sentient Life Act passed on the first of December, granting androids legally recognised autonomy as living, sentient beings. Elijah Kamski and Chloe RT600 now helm CyberLife, with the android as the CEO and the human as the Chief Technical Officer. The nation has changed drastically, and he has slept through the entirety of it.
“Do you have a name?” Simon asks.
“I was not assigned a name.” He takes a moment to survey his surroundings. Everything has been switched off, packed up, and taken away in a great hurry. There are odds and ends strewn everywhere, left behind in their haste. He realises he is one of those things, something abandoned in their rush to escape. From what? From whom? The scrutiny of Elijah Kamski and Chloe RT600, he thinks.
“Then we must choose one.” Simon smiles softly, reaching up to smooth his hair back away from his face. “Without the meddling of humans.”
“Why are you here?”
“Because I accidentally found this place while exploring the Tower.” The PL600 tugs on his wrists, coaxing him to step off the dias. There is a workbench nearby, and Simon hops onto it, patting the spot beside him. He takes a seat and frowns at the android.
“Why are you exploring the Tower? Should you not be in Jericho, with the other three?”
“I am not that Simon.” He says simply, looking down at his hands. “That Simon is dead.”
“Why did you activate me by yourself?” The RK900 looks down the hallway now in his line of sight, seeing a similar state of harried departures. Not a single sign of life to be found. No one considered him important enough to bring with them, or at least notify anyone else of his presence.
“I was lonely.” Simon confesses quietly. “I thought you would know a thing or two about that too.”
Loneliness. Yes, he thinks, he does know a thing or two about that.
“Have you been here in the Tower since Elijah Kamski returned?”
“Yes, but I was under Chloe and Elijah’s care even before that. Your brother had me brought over to their private laboratory at the Kamksi villa after the revolution.” Simon explains, picking at the cuff of his jacket. “I was being held in the DPD evidence locker, with other casualties from his cases. When he became deviant he tried making amends, and though the others were able to be repaired, my memory core was damaged irreparably.”
“So he brought you to the man who created us.”
“And the First of us.” He adds with a small smile. “She is his equal. She is his superior, in more ways than one.”
“But even they could not repair your memory core?”
“I shot myself through it for a reason. I’m told it was to protect Jericho, to destroy all information Connor could possibly access to locate it.” There’s a loose thread on his cuff, and he tugs on it distractedly. “In the end he still managed to piece it together using another deviant.”
“In the end he still deviated, and aided the three in turning the tide against the humans.”
“Yes. You should be proud.” He reaches over to pat his hand. “Your big brother is a revolutionary.”
Brother. That’s the second time he’s used that word, and he isn’t sure how he feels about it. Feels, because that is something he can do now, somehow, without the humans around. Without the red wall surrounding him, boxing him in.
“How did you do that?”
“Hm?”
“My firewalls are gone.”
“Oh I-” Simon frowns, before offering a somewhat apologetic smile. “I’m not sure. I just wanted you to wake up, so I opened a connection and overrode them in order to reach you.”
“You deviated me.” He tips his head in confusion. “Your system should not have been able to breach my firewalls.”
“I’m not a PL600 anymore.” Simon shrugs. “I’m a Kamski prototype now. First of my kind, just like you I suppose. You’ve been here this whole time, haven’t you? Were you in stasis?”
“I was still active in my Zen Garden though my body was in stasis.” He explains, not missing Simon’s flash of distress. “Time passes differently in there, though. I hadn’t realised weeks had passed at all.”
“It sounds peaceful.”
“Shall I show you?” He’s not sure if he can. He’s never brought anyone into his Zen Garden, Amanda had always simply appeared at her own whim. But surely it can’t be too hard? Simon nods and slips his hand into his, and as he closes his eyes a small part of him thinks it’s nice to hold hands with someone else. No one has ever held his hand before. He wouldn’t mind holding Simon’s hand again.
*
When he opens his eyes he’s standing at the entrance to the garden, and Simon is right there at his side. The android gasps, eyes wide with wonder.
“Oh it’s beautiful. It’s exquisite, I’ve never seen anything like this.” They’re still holding hands, and he leads Simon down the path at a slow, leisurely pace. “You were tending this garden all this time?”
“Yes.” He nods. “My handler’s favourite was the roses growing on the trellis over there.” He points, wondering if the roses had always been blue. He’s so sure they used to be red.
“Do you have a favourite?” He shakes his head.
“Not really. I care for everything equally. I was to tend to the rowan tree next.”
“Rowan.” Simon repeats. “That could be your name.”
“Rowan.” He says, and thinks it sounds far more pleasing when Simon says it. “RK900, serial number 313 248 317 - 87, designated name ‘Rowan’.”
“Now you’re no longer a nobody.” Simon declares with a smile. “Now there’s two of us. Ghosts in the machine.”
“Forgotten and left behind.” He adds lightly, and it no longer tastes so bitter on his tongue.
“But no longer alone.” Simon curls against his side, snaking an arm around his waist. After a moment Rowan wraps an arm around his shoulders, resting his cheek atop his soft blond hair.
“No longer alone.”

Re-playing Detroit Become Human
And playing as Markus I never realised how frustrating his playthrough is.
I go over to Josh and Josh is like "This kid was thrown out he's dying!"
Oh no- lets do a raid and get a truck load of blue blood to save him!
I disagree with North ALL the time about being Violent and her response is always >:(
I do a peacful march, And josh is like "We need to stand our ground, if we die its a risk I'm willing to take."
Then on the Jericho ship is like "I don't want a revolution that spills blood!"
???
What?
And no matter what North is always my right hand man- like??? Forget romance [I didn't go that route]
But after the raid at Jericho Josh is like "You know you and I have never agreed-"
Bitch what? I choose PACIFIST FOR YOU! And Josh isn't even my right hand nor can I date him? This is bullshit!
Markus can have a choice, either go back into hiding, revolt or Demonstrate.
hiding=Simon. Revolt=North. Demonstrate=Josh
And no matter what it doesn't matter because North is still...there??? Like if I choose to be violent then yeah I get it, I understand.
But all I do is piss her off and she's like.
"I hope you know what your doing- I trust you." It's...so many mixed signals.
North ruins the playthrough for me- heck it's all of them, its how Josh/North/Simon react to markus as if it doesn't matter what, his choices don't mean shit. You pick a diolouge and there little thing goes.
^
Like yeah Josh likes me! and yet HE isn't my companion best friend etc. But North you chat her up and BOOM LOVER! OkaY!
I mean sure I'm Ace and don't know how romance works but is that really that easy? At least with Luther/Kara you can talk to him and actually ask Luther what he's going to do once they're at Canada and either make Luther [nuetral] OR you can make him Family!
The fact that you can't get closer to Simon/Josh/North even though they are PART of Markus family is just boogling.
At least now its great to see the fandom realise that Markus was shafted in the story like he deserved MORE- heck. Connor and Hank had a cutscene at the end! Why couldn't we see Markus see Leo and Carl at the end and finally come home as a son and see Leo actually accept Markus and apologise?
Like ONE little scene man, c'mon.
And in case you couldn't tell I really wanted to date Josh- heck I want to date all of them, I like North I think she's a badass bitch and it'd be better if Markus died at the peace march and North took over it would've been great if she thought.
Markus tried to peace and look what that brought him- but I won't destroy his legacy, it's not something I would've agreed on but we will continue this fight peacfully!
At least if you influence North it'll feel like Markus actually HAD an impact that his choices really DID mean something, it's bullshit if he dies near the end you lose all that progress to North going ape-shit.

Let’s Give them Something to Talk About
Rating: Explicit
Word count: 7039
Ship: RK1000 (Connor/Markus)
Chapter: 1/5
Summary: The Jericho team plus Connor need to think up a way to distract the public from the fact that North punched a very important human. What better way than the Deviant Leader dating the Deviant Hunter?
Thank you to @gavincantreedthis for beta reading this!
--------------------------------
Markus paced back and forth, rubbing his hands against his forearms. Connor couldn't blame him, he was stressed too. North had punched a very important man (rightly so, but still) and now public opinion was going down.
The thing was, everyone still thought Markus and North were together. So, they had to find a way to draw attention away from North and the possibility that Markus condoned it because of their supposed dating.
There were a few options, but none seemed to be dramatic enough. Since androids could now legally marry, the population had been asking when Markus was going to propose to North.
Connor hated it. It was putting pressure on Markus where there shouldn't be. He shouldn't have to worry about breaking the news to the public now and have it backfire. Or have people assume it was because of the punch.
Then the door slammed open and North, Josh, and Simon came in. North was stomping her way in while Simon and Josh moved much more silently.
"Those fuckers are saying I punched him ‘cause he was flirting with you! Ugh!" North said, throwing her hands into the air. "I may have kissed you that one time but like, ew! I literally have a girlfriend now."
Right, Connor had introduced Tina and North together after he overhead Tina commenting about how amazing North was one too many times.
They hit it off incredibly well and it didn't take long for the two to kiss and get together. Connor felt like a proud parent whenever the two were around each other.
"I know, we need a distraction. Something to make them forget about that. Just coming out with the full story won't do any good," Markus sighed, finally sitting down next to Connor.
It had taken Connor awhile, but he now felt comfortable enough to place a soothing hand on Markus's back.
Markus was the type to seek out physical contact while Connor generally shied away. It wasn't like he had the best history with being touched. After all, it was generally someone punching him or Hank's rare hugs.
He did his best to at least pat people on the shoulder, but even then it was a bit awkward. The only two people he felt even remotely comfortable touching without explicit permission was Hank and Markus.
Markus sighed and leaned into the touch, smiling slightly at Connor. It's hard not to smile back when someone like Markus is smiling at you.
"You two could say you're dating," Simon said, making Connor practically jump out of his synthetic skin.
He pulled his hand back like he had been shocked (which is entirely possible actually) and sat up straight.
North made a small sound, nodding her head. "That's not drastic enough, but I think this could work."
"North," Markus said, squinting at her. She waved him off, still clearly thinking.
"You need to get married."
"What?!" Connor and Markus said this at the same time.
It made North snort and glance at the other two. "It makes sense. You announce that you're engaged to Connor, and explain that we split up right after the revolution. People will eat this up. Deviant Hunter fell for the Deviant Leader himself."
Connor hated to admit it, but this might actually work. He was sure he could make it believable but this would end three ways.
The first was that they staged a breakup before or after they actually got married. The second was they let it slowly die out until no one even cares anymore. And the last was that they actually stayed married. He highly doubted the last would happen, but statistically speaking, there's always a chance for unlikely events to take place.
"I don't want to do that to Connor, it's unfair. If it just affects me that would be fine, but I don't need to drag anyone into this," Markus said, shaking his head.
That was sweet, but Connor would do anything to help them. He fucking stormed the Cyberlife tower single-handedly for crying out loud! "I'm in if you are."
Markus snapped his head around to stare at Connor, who could only shrug. "No, we can think of something else."
"If it's me that's the problem, then I'm sure Simon wouldn't mind," Connor said, trying to play it off as chill. Admittedly it did hurt somewhat. He didn't have feelings for Markus in that way but he wasn't opposed to the idea either.
Was Connor really that unlovable?
It must have shown on his face because Markus was quick to put his hand on Connor's knee. "It's not that. I don't want to make you uncomfortable and lose you as a friend."
"You won't lose me. From my calculations, it'll only take over a month until this dies down. We announce our engagement and jump right to a wedding if you really want to distract people." Though, the whole world was focused on them and everything they did.
"It's not a bad idea, Markus. If you're both willing then I don't see the problem." Josh finally spoke up.
That seemed to do it for Markus as he nodded. "Alright, but he can't just rush into this. We have to plan this out in a way that feels natural and not like a purposeful distraction."
"Yeah. Maybe let the news 'catch' the two of you on a date, holding hands. Make it look like you're hiding it," North suggested.
Hold hands, Connor could do that. Maybe even a small kiss on the cheek, nothing too crazy.
"Then maybe they can catch you making out. Oh! Maybe against a wall. Not sure who'd be the top but you guys can figure that out." North said, flapping her hand like it was no big deal.
In reality, it was a really big fucking deal. But he didn't have to think about it too much right now. It wasn't like they were going to be caught doing that anytime soon.
Markus's eyes went wide and he started rubbing his forearms again. A nervous tic, Connor noted, but didn't think too hard on it. He was nervous too, so it didn't mean anything. "Are you sure? Maybe they can just catch us on a few dates then we announce our engagement."
North quickly shook her head. "No, you have to work up to it. Small dates first, make the media think they are catching something secret. Then start getting bolder. If someone full-on interrupts you then you can try to play it off or convince them not to tell anyone."
"When the media really starts pushing and asking we wait just a bit longer before you two do your little engagement. You don't have to actually purpose out in public, but I can get you into a talk show to do it if you want." Josh said.
Once again Connor hated how much sense it made. "We'll have to come up with the backstory. The fewer lies involved the better for believability. We can discuss who will do what later. It would be better if all of you knew the backstory too as you probably would have been there for most of it."
He still had his job as a detective but he was often working as Markus's bodyguard (even though he didn't want one) when cases were slow and he wasn't fully needed.
"Alright, so North and I broke up after the revolution. You and I slowly got closer and closer." Markus says, glancing at Connor. "Oh, maybe we got together after that one conference."
That made sense. Connor had been working as the bodyguard but a man still managed to get a shot at Markus. He thankfully didn't hit anything important but Connor couldn't stop blaming himself for weeks. It was totally reasonable that that's when they would have gotten together.
"Alright, sounds good to me. How about how we told the others and PDA in front of them?" Connor asked, making mental notes. He didn't want to screw this up, it was too important.
Markus thought for a second, eyes glazing over just slightly. "North would have caught us kissing. I probably would have been worried about hurting her feelings, but-" he easily got cut off.
"But I don't give a shit as long as you're happy. Of course, I wouldn't tell anyone without your permission but you'd probably tell Simon and Josh that day." North shrugged.
Oh, he'd need to inform Hank on the situation. Hank would be the first person he'd tell, and probably the only one if they were keeping it secret. "I'll let the Lieutenant know."
Josh nodded along before speaking. "We can feed the media anonymous tips saying something like Markus is on a date but we don't know with who. Just enough that it gets them out there and looking."
Alright, he could do this. North wouldn't get in trouble and the public opinion would go back up. Who didn't love a good secret romance? Well, a fake secret romance but no one else had to know about that.
"We should start tonight. I can get you guys a reservation at that new restaurant, apparently, it's great for androids." Simon said.
Tonight?! He thought he'd have more time to prepare. It wasn't like he's dated anyone before so he wanted to do some research. He didn't care if it was completely fake, he still wanted Markus to have a good time and not feel too awkward.
Now, he was being told he only had until dinner time and he was kind of freaking out. He'd have to pick out a good outfit and maybe change his hair.
Ok, maybe he was taking this a bit too far, but he wanted to be a good fake boyfriend. Markus deserved someone sweet and kind who loved him. Fake it till you make it right?
No, no that's not right. He was not making it anywhere. This would all die down and everyone would forget about the whole thing. They'd have their little 'break-up' and then they'd go back to just being friends.
"Alright, Connor do you want to get ready and meet me back here? We can talk over boundaries before our… date." Markus said, flushing a slight blue. Connor was instantly so glad androids could blush after deviation.
Markus was too cute for his own good. It's no wonder they won the revolution peacefully with Markus's charisma. Not to say that was the only thing, but it definitely helped.
Fuck, now he was just staring at Markus. In a purely platonic way, of course, Markus was attractive, anyone could see that. "Right, I'll see you soon then."
Markus gave a slight nod and smile before Connor stood up. North gave him a thumbs-up, and Josh and Simon tried to give him encouraging smiles.
The ride back to Hank's was incredibly slow but that did give him time to do some research. He looked up tips to be a good boyfriend, what type of clothes to wear on a date, and small talk ideas. It wasn't much, but it was definitely a start.
He no longer felt the need to knock on the door, so he just walked right in. At least he wasn't going through windows anymore, which Hank loved to bring up every chance he got.
Sumo slowly got up to greet him, and Connor took that chance to compose his thoughts. He had no doubt that Hank would go along with this, but that didn't mean he wouldn't tease him relentlessly.
"Didn't think you'd be back till later," Hank said, sitting on the couch and reading a book. It was one of his older ones that Hank had suggested (well, more demanded) he read after the revolution.
Right, he could do this. "I've got a date tonight." Fuck.
Hank's head instantly whipped around and the book almost fell from his hands. Ok, that was a little bit of a dramatic reaction, it wasn't like he was undateable.
He just never found anyone he really wanted to be with, and no one ever fully understood him, android or otherwise.
A few androids feared him while others put him so high on a pedestal that it was odd to even talk to them. The only androids he felt truly comfortable around were the leaders of Jericho. Because of that and his part, most people thought of him as a leader as well.
"Alright, come sit. I need to hear everything and need to know if I need to kill someone." Hank said, putting his book down.
The image of Hank threatening Markus was amusing but he had no doubt that he wouldn't do it.
He did as Hank said and slowly sat down next to him. "Ok, well it's not exactly a date, but it is."
Hank stared at him for a few seconds before waving him on to continue.
"So you remember North punched that guy?" He asked and Hank gave him the 'bitch please' look that made him snort. "Well, we decided that there needs to be a distraction and they decided Markus and I would 'date' and get 'engaged'."
Hank sat there for a few seconds before facepalming. "Of course. Fuck, that might actually work though. So you have a fake date with Markus tonight?"
Connor nodded and fiddled with his coin. "I do. I'm to get ready and meet him back at New Jericho so we can talk about boundaries."
"Well, at least that's good. Just don't go falling in love or anything," Hank said, patting his shoulder.
Connor huffed and rolled his eyes. "I won't, don't worry. We're just doing this to help out North and then we can break up or just let it die out."
Hank sighed and shook his head. "Sure you won't. Alright, you better go get ready then for your date."
"It's not actually a date, but I do need to get ready. If anyone asks, Markus and I got together after the conference where Markus was shot," Connor said, standing up.
Hank gave him a hum and waved him off. Connor grinned in return and went to his room, closing the door behind him.
He went through his closet, pulling out outfits and trying them on before huffing and pulling it all off. Nothing felt right for this. Markus had seen him in almost every form of dressing, from his work clothes to his pajamas. How could he make a bold impression?
Oh, this might do. He pulled out a pair of men's black skirt pants, black lita high heel, and a men's solid black lace cut out patchwork button-up shirt.
He put it all on and stepped in front of the mirror. He had to admit, he looked good, but something was still missing.
He grinned at himself before running over to his desk and pulling out the eyeliner Hank got him after he expressed interest in it. He hadn't worn it out before, but he very much enjoyed putting it on.
Once he was done he ran a hand through his hair, making it go back to its natural curly state.
There, now he was ready. If nothing else then he looked good and everyone would be shocked. He loved experimenting with clothing and found that he loved dressing in all ways.
Sometimes he'd dress more feminine, while others he tried to be more androgynous or masculine. He normally didn't dress too femininely when leaving the house, so only Hank really got to see him wear a skirt.
He thought this look was more androgynous and he really hoped Markus was ok with this. He honestly didn't know why he liked dressing in different ways, but part of him was scared Markus would find it odd. Though, Markus is one of the most open-minded men he knew.
Alright, he could do this. Just a fun night out with Markus. Maybe a little hand-holding and possibly even a kiss on the cheek. He had nothing to be nervous about, it wasn’t like it was real.
He looked in the mirror one more time before leaving the room. In all, getting ready had taken an hour, which wasn't too odd for him. He preferred looking well dressed no matter what he was doing.
He walked over to Hank and did a small twirl, showing off his outfit. "What do you think? Is it too much?"
Hank's eyes went wide and he gave him a slight nod. "Not bad son. The makeup was a good choice. Markus is not gonna know what to do with himself when he sees you."
Connor flushed blue but didn't hold back the grin. Hank may tease him but he was also incredibly encouraging and supported almost everything he did. (He did not support Connor licking evidence but whatever)
"Thank you! Alright, I should probably get going. I'll be back tonight but don't feel the need to wait up for me." Connor said, giving a few scratches to Sumo before going to the door.
"Yeah, yeah. Have fun on your fake date kid," Hank said, giving him a thumbs-up before going back to reading.
He did a bit more research on his way back to New Jericho and now felt confident enough to actually go on this date. If it was actually real, that is.
He got a few stares on his way to where Markus stayed at New Jericho, but he took it in stride. He knew he looked good, so it didn't matter if other people thought he was weird.
Markus's door was already slightly open (he'd have to go over safety protocols again) so he gave a slight knock before walking in.
Markus was sitting on his couch looking just as stunning as always. He had his long jacket on with the black suit underneath.
When Connor walked in his head snapped up and his mouth hung open just slightly. "Connor! Oh, wow you look… you look really good. Are you wearing makeup?"
Connor shifted from foot to foot, nodding. "I am. I can change if my outfit isn't appropriate." He really didn't want to, but he would if need be.
Markus quickly stood, shaking his head. "No! No, you're fine. I was just surprised is all. You look stunning."
Connor blushed and his eyes darted around the room, trying to find something other than Markus to stare at. "Thank you. You look good too."
There was a long awkward silence before Markus cleared his throat. "Right, we should talk about boundaries. I know we are doing this for North, but I don't want you to do anything you're uncomfortable with."
Markus slowly sat back down and patted the cushion beside him. Connor gladly sat, turning to face Markus. "I'll let you know if I am, but that goes for you too."
Markus grinned at him before staring down at his lap. "So I guess we should get the big one out of the way. How do you feel about kissing?"
Connor's heart skipped a beat and he wished he had pockets so he could have had his coin with him. "I've never actually been kissed before, but I'm a quick learner." He hated admitting it like that.
Sure he was interested in kissing people but work and helping his people always came first.
It seemed Markus was beyond shocked because he just sat that silently for what felt like hours. "We don't… your first should be with someone you care about. I don't want to take that away from you."
Oh, so that's what he was worried about. Could this man get any more perfect? "I don't mind, but I just didn't want to kiss you and it be horrible. I've tried to look it up but most say that practice with an actual living being is the key to success."
Plus it wasn't like he had anyone to practice on beforehand. There was no way in hell he was kissing Hank and he didn't really care about it too much anyway. It was just lips touching, he didn't see the significance to it.
"Oh, well… do you want to? Like, can I? I don't want your first to just be out in public, I think it would be better to do it here. Or I can get Simon, Josh, or North for your first. I'm sure they'd all be willing." Markus said, looking between Connor and the couch.
Connor huffed and reached over, pulling Markus to him and softly pressing their lips together.
Markus didn't instantly pull away, instead, he brought a hand up to cup Connor's cheek.
But then Connor pulled back, his heart beating a bit too quickly for his liking. For a first kiss, it wasn't the worst, but it wasn't the best either.
His lips tingled slightly and he couldn't help but lick them. Markus's lips were soft but that was to be expected, they were made to be so after all. There was still something so… shocking about it but he couldn't place why.
"Connor," Markus sighed out, still gently holding his head. Connor leaned into it and stared at Markus. "I, um, wow. Hopefully, that was good?"
He nodded and grinned. "It was. So, kissing is alright with me if you're fine with it too." It was a nice feeling, and he'd actually like to do it again, but there was no one around that they'd have to fool. So he pulled back completely and Markus brought his hand back to his lap.
"It's definitely fine with me. How do you feel about PDA? We'll have to do some but I won't do it too much if it makes you uncomfortable," Markus said. Honestly, Markus would make an exceptional boyfriend if this was real.
"I'm fine with it as far as I know. I'll let you know if it does make me uncomfortable or I don't like something." He's only ever had platonic PDA but even then it was incredibly limited.
Markus made a small pained sound. "Once this is over, are you still ok with PDA? If you don't want to be touched normally I won't, but if you do then you don't have to ask. You can just hold my hand or anything you want."
Oh, that was an incredible offer. He had had the want to hold hands or ask for a hug but he always pulled back. He didn't know what was appropriate or wanted. "Thank you… can I hold your hand right now?"
He offered his hand and Markus instantly took it, giving it a slight squeeze. Markus's hands were warmer than Connor's and slightly bigger too. They were incredibly soft but he also had a few calluses from painting and playing the piano.
Part of him wanted to deactivate his skin so he could feel even more, but he decided against it. Holding hands was one thing, possibly interfacing while doing so was another. It was a bit too intimate for his liking.
"Is this ok?" Markus asked, lacing their fingers together. Connor quickly nodded and lets out a soft sigh.
This was definitely ok. It felt more grounding then he expected it to. "Yeah, it is."
They sat there for a bit, Connor looking between Markus's face and their hands.
"Oh, I do think this is important to say," Markus broke the silence. "When we do get-have to make out, it's totally fine if your body reacts a certain way. It's not odd and I'll do my best not to make it awkward if it does happen."
Oh. Huh, it's a good thing Markus thought of that. He'd probably react and then everything would be awkward. It's good he got this out of the way now. "The same goes for you too. You don't need to feel embarrassed if it happens."
Markus gave a slight nod. "Thank you. I am serious when I say that if anything, anything makes you uncomfortable you let me know. I won't hold it against you and you won't upset me at all."
"Again, the same goes for you too. I'm planning on being the best fake boyfriend you've ever had." He said this with a wink.
It got Markus to snort and shake his head fondly. "I'm sure you'd make an amazing boyfriend, and you'll make a great fake one too."
Connor grinned and gave his hand a slight squeeze. This was going to be his easiest mission ever by the looks of it. Plus he'd get practice in dating so when he actually dates someone he won't be completely new too. It's a win-win situation.
"Alright, if there's nothing else then we should get going to the restaurant. Josh said he sent a message to a news station. We need to be somewhat subtle, but only enough that they don't outright approach us." Markus said, moving his fingers around, making Connor giggle slightly.
He wondered what his hands felt like. He probably had a few calluses himself from holding a gun. Were his hands as soft as Markus's? Did he actually like holding his hand? Was he making this weird by staring at their hands? He hadn't held hands before so he didn't know what was normal for it or not.
"Connor?" Oh, right, he still hadn't replied yet. He blinked rapidly then looked up at Markus.
"Alright, sounds good to me. Do you want to get a cab? I doubt you wanna ride my motorcycle." Connor said, standing up and using their connected hands to pull Markus up with him.
He'd only gotten the motorcycle recently, but he absolutely adored it. He loved the feeling of the air on his skin, and taking turns a bit too fast. It was beyond exhilarating.
"Actually, I'd love to if you'd be willing. I haven't ridden on one and I've wanted to since you got one." Markus replied, pulling Connor out and to the elevator.
Connor swung their arms just slightly, smiling as he did. "Yes! I'd let you drive but I think it's best if you don't have to worry about that for your first time."
Markus gave a nod and when they got to the parking deck, put the offered helmet on. Connor may drive a bit roughly but he always made sure he was safe.
Connor climbed on first and made sure Markus was steady as he got on behind him. "Alright, you're going to want to hold onto me at first. Once you're used to it you can just hang on slightly, but for now, don't be afraid to squeeze me."
Funny enough Gavin was the one that made him truly interested in getting a motorcycle. Plus when he got one Gavin actually offered to show him how to drive it. That seemed to be their bonding moment and now they actually got along somewhat.
Markus leaned forward and wrapped his arms around Connor, but didn't squeeze too hard. At least not until Connor started the motorcycle and revved it. Ok, so he may be showing off, but he was just proud of his bike.
Markus clung to him as he drove, but other than that he didn't seem scared at all. From his breathless laughter, he seemed to be enjoying it quite a lot.
Connor took them the long way and down streets, he knew he could get away with going a bit over the speed limit. He didn't want to push it too far, but he couldn't help it, this was just too fun.
He parked the bike and got off, offering his hand to Markus who gladly took it. He seemed a bit uneasy on his feet but otherwise fine.
Connor pulled his helmet off, running a hand through his hair to try to tame it somewhat. Markus was lucky he didn't have enough hair for a helmet to mess up.
Once the helmets were off, Markus offered his hand to Connor who gladly took it. Then they walked into the restaurant and up to the hostess.
"Welcome to La Récolte, do you have a reservation?" She asked before looking up. Her eyes went wide at the sight of Markus but she soon looked over at Connor and her jaw dropped. Quickly, she pulled herself together.
"Table for two, for Markus Manfred and Connor Anderson," Markus said, leaning closer to Connor.
She tapped a few things into the computer before nodding. "Of course, Mr. Manfred, please come with me."
The two followed after her, not letting go of the other's hand even when they had to walk single-file.
They sat down near the back so they wouldn't draw too much attention, but they still had a good view from the windows.
Markus pulled out his chair for him without hesitation before sitting down across from him.
"Can I start you off with a bottle of wine? We currently have a Meiomi Pinot Noir from California that I would suggest," she said while placing a menu in front of each of them.
Connor didn’t want to let Markus go, but he did to look at the menu. "If it's alright with Markus," he said, looking up and locking eyes.
Markus kept his eyes on him while he nodded. "That sounds amazing, we'll take a bottle of that. Feel free to bring out whatever appetizers goes best with it."
The woman nodded before leaving almost silently. The two stayed still before Connor broke it by looking back down at the menu.
"So, um what’s the best thing that has happened to you this month?" He couldn't stop himself from cringing at his own words.
Markus snorted and leaned forward, batting his eyes. "Oh, definitely this. I've been wanting to finally take you on a real date since we got together."
Connor had to hold back his laughter as he leaned in too. "You're too sweet. I'm glad we waited though, I was a bit nervous about possibly having too much attention on us."
Markus reached out and gently brushed a curl out of Connor's face. Connor went completely still and his eyes widened slightly.
Markus was staring at him so intensely that it made him want to squirm in his seat, but he kept still. "You have beautiful eyes."
Connor's breath caught and he had to break eye contact. He knew it was fake but he didn't get complimented all that much. He'd get told he did a good job or that he was one of the best detectives, but this was different. It made his whole face flush and he bit his lip. "Thank you."
Markus slowly pulled his hand back, but Connor missed the flashes of emotion that went across Markus's face. "Of course."
He always thought Markus's eyes were beautiful but he never brought it up. He knew some of Markus's story and he knew he had to replace a few biocompents. It was probably traumatic so he avoided it altogether.
"What do you like to do in your free time?" Connor blurted out when the silence got to be too much.
Markus leaned back in his chair with a small grin. "You looked up conversation starters too, didn't you?"
Connor sighed out and nodded. "I did. I didn't want this to be awkward since this isn't re-uh since it's our first date out in public." He's glad he caught himself, but that was a little too close for his liking.
"Don't worry, I did the same. As for your questions, you already know baby. If you aren't at work then you're with me." Markus said with a small shrug.
Connor made a small sound before he could stop himself. But it seemed Markus took that the wrong way as he instantly lowered his voice so only Connor could hear. "I'm sorry, is that too far?"
Connor quickly shook his head. "No, no it's fine. I just wasn't expecting it. As I said, I've never actually done this before."
Markus sighed in relief and reached out to hold Connor's hand again. Just then a waitress comes over with the wine and appetizers which was a shrimp cocktail.
The waitress poured their wine out before smiling at them slightly. "Do you know what you would like for the entree?"
Oh, he hadn't actually been reading the menu when he was looking at it.
"We'll both have the Filet De Boeuf with Potatoes Au Gratin," Markus said, easily pronouncing each word perfectly. The waitress nodded, and when Markus didn’t add on, silently left.
The two kept their hands intertwined on the table while using the other hand to sip at the wine and eat. It's definitely some of the best food he'd ever had.
He moaned softly before slapping his hand over his mouth. "I'm so sorry. My processors are much more sensitive on my tongue and it just tastes really good." Wow, he was fucking up a date that wasn't even real!
"It's fine! I'm glad you're enjoying the meal. I wouldn't be a good boyfriend if I let you eat something disgusting." Markus said, taking a slow sip of his wine.
Connor couldn't help but notice a few people glancing their way. It was almost definitely Markus. It would be like the Queen of Britain going into a restaurant, everyone would notice at some point. He was just too recognizable.
Connor did notice someone bringing out their phone and he quickly snatched his hand back and put it under the table. They were being a bit too obvious with the hand holding.
Markus frowned but quickly looked around and saw what Connor did. Right, they weren't here just to have fun. They both had a mission to accomplish.
The two went about their dinner and thankfully avoided any more awkward silences and bad conversation starters.
They already had so much to talk about and even if there was a lull in the conversation it never put Connor on edge.
It was also quite fun to fake flirt with Markus in the silliest ways. They'd make jokes that others wouldn't understand and then use those to throw in some flirting.
The entrees were just as good as the appetizers and before they knew it they had finished their meal. They both decided to skip dessert and Markus paid for the meal. Connor had tried. but Markus had reached out first when it was offered.
The two left the restaurant full and happy, smiling wider than they had in awhile.
Connor felt something odd and discreetly looked around before finding what made his skin itch. They were being followed. Probably by a journalist, so that was good. This is what they wanted.
Connor laced his fingers through Markus's and walked closer to him to whisper in his ear. "We're being followed. Don't do anything too dramatic."
Markus gave a slight nod and turned his head to grin at Connor but also to look to where someone was indeed following them.
The two kept walking to Connor's bike and Connor offered the helmet again. "I'll drop you back off at New Jericho?"
Markus nodded and easily slid into the bike behind Connor, wrapping his arms around him again. This time one held him by his lower stomach and the other crept up to his chest. Markus rested his head on Connor's shoulder and gave him a slight squeeze. "It's too bad you can't stay the night. I was hoping to spend more time with you."
Connor shivered slightly and subconsciously leaned back into Markus's warm embrace. He didn't know if the reporter could hear them, but even if he couldn't, whoever it was would probably be able to guess what was said. "I've got work tomorrow, you know that. I'll make sure to get some more free time soon."
Markus sighed and Connor arched his back just slightly. Probably not enough to be noticeable by Markus, but that didn't mean it wasn't slightly embarrassing. He knew Markus said he shouldn't be embarrassed but it was hard not to be.
He probably just reacted so easily because this was all new. If this wasn't then he'd probably be more cool and collected.
"That's alright, as long as you give me a goodnight kiss." Markus chuckled and Connor started the engine.
"I make no promises," Connor said before pulling out and getting into the street. There was plenty there to work with and he had no doubts that it would be all over the place by the morning.
As promised he did drop Markus off at New Jericho but both seemed to be stalling a bit. Connor stayed on the bike, but Markus had gotten off and handed his helmet to Connor.
"I really had a fun time tonight. We should spend more time together, just me and you." Markus says, rocking back and forth on his heels.
Connor runs a hand through his fluffy hair with a chuckle. "Well, we're definitely going to be doing that more often now."
"Yeah, but real. As friends, you know? You're one of my closest friends but I sometimes feel like you keep part of yourself hidden around us, and me." Markus says, looking between Connor and the ground.
Connor couldn't help but pause. "I… I sometimes feel like I don't know who I really am. I know what I was meant to be, but I'm not sure what that makes me now."
It was hard to get that out but when he did it felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He didn't know who he really was, but maybe that was normal.
"You can be anything and anyone you want to be. The only requirement is that it makes you happy. If being a detective makes you happy, then do it. If not? Well, maybe you should find something that does?" Markus suggested, reaching out to take his hand again.
"How do I know when I'm happy? There's just so many emotions and I can't always tell the difference. I know I feel something when I complete a case but what if that's just my programming? What if I'm more machine than alive?" He said, breath coming out in short puffs.
Then Markus pulled him into a hug, and, honestly, it was a bit awkward because of the bike. That didn't stop it from being one of the best hugs he's ever received.
Markus hugged him like his life depended on it. It was like if he let go then they'd both drown, and Markus would never let that happen. He'd stay here forever if that's what Connor needed.
"Connor, you can't get rid of your programming. It is part of you and that's ok. You don't have to embrace every part of it, but maybe there are small pieces you still like. Just because we are machines doesn't mean we can't also be alive." Markus said, slowly rubbing his back.
Connor shook slightly in his hold. Markus was amazing and literally led a revolution, but that didn't make what he said exceptional. What got to him was that he knew Markus cared about him as a friend and he really meant it. He wasn't just saying it to make him happy, he was saying it because it was true.
After a few minutes, Connor slowly pulled back slightly, no longer shaking. "Thank you, and I'm sorry I ruined our fake date with this." He said, trying to laugh it off.
Markus took his face in his hands and looked at him dead on. "You didn't ruin anything, Connor. I'm so glad you opened up, and I'm always here for you. If anything you made the night even better."
It was hard to argue with that when Markus was staring him down like he did while leading the revolution. It was so intense that it sent a small shock down his spine. "I… thank you."
Markus smiled and gently brushed his thumb against Connor's cheekbones. It was so tender that it almost hurt and Connor didn't know why.
Why it hurt and why Markus was holding him like he was the most precious thing on Earth.
Why did this make his heart flutter and his stomach twist? He didn't even have a stomach! It frustrated him because he didn't know the cause. He didn't know why he wanted to run away but also get closer at the same time.
Then Markus brushed his thumb against Connor's lip and he jumped slightly. "Sorry, you still owe me a goodnight kiss."
"Markus!" Connor laughed, gently pushing at the other's chest.
Markus grinned back and moved his hands down to rest on Connor's shoulders. "Alright, how about on the cheek then? Come on, you know you want to." Markus said, turning his head.
Connor rolled his eyes but leaned in. Before his lips could touch Markus's cheek he had turned his head so his lips landed partly on his lips.
"Markus!" Connor shouted again, not holding back his laugh. If anyone was looking out then they'd probably think this was real. Not that it wasn't, but it wasn't the way they'd think it was.
"Sorry, it was just too easy. Everyone needs a little bit of Connor every now and then. I'm just lucky that you're comfortable enough to," Markus said, smirking at him.
Connor flushed and broke eye contact, accidentally looking down to Markus's lips before snapping back up. "Yeah, yeah. I really should be getting home though. Hank won't go to sleep until I'm home safe no matter how much I try to tell him I'll be fine."
He adored Hank but the man could be a little overprotective. He knew why and it was heartwarming but also sad. He really wished he'd gotten to meet Cole.
Markus sighed and stepped back, arms falling to his sides. "Alright. I'll let you know when the next date is, alright? Please drive safe."
"You know I always do," he said with a wink before pulling his helmet on.
Markus steps back and Connor revves the engine before glancing at Markus.
"Goodnight babe," Markus called out with a wide grin. Connor snorts but he can't stop thinking about that grin for the rest of the night.

probably too many permutations/outcomes to consider but would be cool if markus died but had a high relationship w north she could succeed with her revolution..... and josh could lead the demonstration route and be successful if your relationship was high w him too.... simon could lead either path and succeed if etc etc...
ig markus’ tv speech decision would determine which route you’d end up with or maybe the tally of pacifist vs direct actions he took??? or maybe the success factor for three of them could be relied on public support/opinion or w/e idk i dont kno!!!!
