"Lloyd?" You called out to yourboyfriend who was training out by the courtyard. He seemed foucsed because he never noticed your presence. He aims the tip of his sword to the neck of the dummy he was currently training with.

You stood on the side of the courtyard, slowly moving around to face Lloyd from a distance.

"Lloyd?" You once again called, and this time your eyes caught a glimpse of a energy blast zoom it's way toward you. You reflexed fast and dodged it, the blast hitting the wall leaving a burnt mark.

"Y/N?"

Lloyd called out, running up to you as you stood up, rubbing your arm. "Are you crazy?"

"Sorry," Lloyd awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, "I-I didn't think anyone would be up this hour." He was right. The time was 7am. Everyone else is probably still asleep, or awake up in their rooms doing whatever.

"Sure, but you could've done much worse then make a burnt mark on the wall."

Lloyd aplogized once again, checked for wounds, and went back to the middle of the courtyard to countine training.

"Lloyd?"

"Hm?" He replied, landing a hit on the dummy.

"Well," You began, "I was thinking about something."

He nod, telling you keep talking. You stepped down on the rocky path and made your way toward him as you spoke, "I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me today! Y'know, because it's nice and early and your already awake?"

Lloyd paused to look at you, "I'm sure, but not for long. I've been sloopy durning training sessions with the others. Trying to get better, but I'm sure we can get an hour in together.

"Just one hour?"

Will that be enough time?

"I mean, yeah, why not. I'm sorry babe,but I really gotta focus today."

You took a miunte to think, "Lloyd, do you know what today is?"

Lloyd slammed the dummy to the floor, it bouncing back up in less then 2 seconds and paused to think, "Uhm. B/D?"

You waited to see if he'll continue, but he didn't.

"Yes, but what's special about this day?"

"Y/N, what are you talking about? It's a normal B/D. Look, I'm pretty busy right now, how about we plan tomorrow? I'll take you to your favorite-"

"Forget it." You waved off the ninja, making you way back inside in the Monestary. Lloyd raised an eyebrow, but shugged off your sudden outburts.

Inside the Monestary, you felt tears begin to build up in your eyes. How could he forget your birthday? Is is Ninja business more importabnt then you? You walked down the hall, trying to cover our mouth to prevent you from sobbing out loud.

Why are you even crying? Its not our fault he forgot, he should be the one feeling your pain.

Sudden;y, you bumped into a figue the walked out of a room. In a panic you wiped your eyes as you made eye contact with the person.

"Zane." You chuckled, "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

"It's quite alright, Y/N. What are you doing up so early?" Zane asked, looking at you. He noticed your eyelids were red but didn't say anything about it until you replied to his question.

"Oh, I-I just said hi to Lloyd, I-I'm heading back to my room."

Before he could say anythin you push by him but pause, "Zane, do you know what today is?"

"Well, of course I do. Happy birthday, Y/N."

You smiled softly, thanking him and returning to your room. He watched as you entered your rooom beside Nya's and Kai's.

It was now later in the morning, around 9AM. Lloyd came back from outside and he was done training for a couple of hours. At least 1 or 2 he told himself.

As he entered the kitchen, he ran into Zane who was finishing up breakfast. "Good morning, Lloyd. Have you finished training?"

Lloyd smieles as he sits at the table, "Yeah. I am." Lloyd soon looked around the room. With the corner of his eye he spots ballons and banners in a supply closet. He tilted his head to the side, "We still have these? I thought we put them away after Nya's birthday last month?" He said as he took a sip of water that Zane placed down for him.

"Well, we did put them away, but I took them back out for Y/N's birthday today-"

The sound of Lloyd spitting water out of his mouth caused Zane to jump slighty, obviously not expecting it. "WHAT?" He basically shouted, wiping his chin. "It's for Y/N's birthday today, I asked Cole to assit me in putting up the banners and Nya and Jay offered to get them presents from all of us. Kai will be in charge blowing up balloons."

Zane spoke, looking over to Lloyd to see panic all over his face. "Lloyd," he started slowly, placing down his cloth and cup he was drying, "You do remember it's Y/N's birthday? Correct?"

Lloyd stared at the table in thought. What the fuck? he asked himseld over and over, How the hell could I forget my own partners birthday?!

"I mean- I-I was distracted by all my ninja training, I-I didn't think-"

Zane gave a sworrowful look as he shook his head. Lloyd grumbled as he slammed his head to the table.

"Oh. Sorry Y/N, I didn;t know you were-" Cole had accdeintly walked in on you in the bathroom, and as he was aplogizing you were quick to move from the mirror nad wipe your eyes. You and him made eye contact and as you prayed he's close the door, he instead opened it slowly, noticing your puffy eyes.

"Y/N? Are you okay? Are you crying?

You shook your head fast, too fast, causing your head to hurt and tears to spill more. "N-No." Your voice cracked as you wiped the tears from your eyes.

Cole didn't know what to do, not until you choked out his name and the tears were more visiable. "Cole..." He immediatly wrapped his arms around you as you cried into his shoulder.

"Oh god, ssh. ssh. It's alright, hey, hey, hey!" He smiles as he sups your ace togethet to get a better look at your face. Your tear stained face caused a frown to form on his face, "Awh, Y/N." He hugged you once and rubbed your back in comfort.

"How-How could he forget?" You spoke.

You and Cole have moved into the hall and back into your room. He got you issues, your stuffed animal, your blanket, anything to make you feel more safe and happy. He rubbed your shoulder as he sat beside you,

"Who forgot?"

"Lloyd!" Your voice squeaked as you coughed out a cry. "How-How could he forget my birthd-day?" You squezzed your stuffed animal as Cole paused to think.

Suddenly, he started to chuckle and you snapped your head at him, More tears started to form, and Cole quickly noticed. "Omg, Y/N." Cole handed you a tissue, but still wiped your tears for you. "I thought you meant he forgot something like an aniverrsity, or a graduation."

You cocked your eyebrow at Cole, "Y/N. A lot of people forget birthdays! I do sometimes. Lemme'tell you, when I forgot Jay's birthday he was crying his eyes out. I felt bad, but he didn't take any offence of it."

"But- BUT YOU AND JAY WEREN'T DATING!"

"True, but he forgave me because it was only a one time thing. Tell me, when was the last time Lloyd ever forgot your birthday. Or Kai's birthday? Or even Darreths?!" You looked at him as you were deep in thought.

He was right.

Lloyd never forgot your birthday and even if he would, he would ask someone, no?

You shrugged your shoulders, rubbing the arm of your stuffed toy. Cole smiled, "See. Now, don't let one person who forgot your birthday ruin your entire day. Hae fun, you only turn (A/N) once!" He joked, shaking your arm to egt you to laugh, which much to your liking, did.

"You only turn any age once, dummy."

You and Cole laugh, not hearing the sudden door knock until the door creaked open. You both snap your heads to find Lloyd peeking his head in. Your stomach dropped for a minute, but you remained calm.

"Uh, Y/N. Could I talk to you?"

Cole looked back at you and smiled, you look back at him and slowly smiled back as he stood up after rubbing the top of your hair. He walked by Lloyd anc gave him a pat on the shoulder and a smile.

You placed your legs on your bed to sit criss cross on the mattress. As you didn, Lloyd entered with his hands behind his back. He sat where Cole was perviously before he left.

"Y/N. I-I just wanted to say, I'm sorry. I forgot your birthday and that was a dumb move of me. I'm your boyfriend, and I've already forgotten your birthday, I felt so bad when I remembered. This morning, when you asked me if we wanted to hang out, I was a jerk and set you off for tomorrow. So-So I want to make it up to you, if you'd let me."

You saw him reach into a bag he placed on the bed as he sat down, he took out a small box and handed it to you. You look at him, you could tell he was on edge. So you took the box, taking a moment to open it and when it did you were met with pieces of papers. You took one out and read it."

"Coupon #7 : Movie Night."

You look up at him confused, "I-I don't have any money on me, so I decided t go old-school and make you something, Basically, I made you (A/N) coupons, cause that's how old you are now, and which ever one you pick every hour we will do."

He took the paper from you, "Example, You got Coupon #7" Movie Night. Meaning tonight we'll watch a moive, you're pick but I do have those rented movies we got at Doomsday."

You paused, "I know. I know, It's not the best present, but I felt really bad that I forgot your birthday and I wish you could for-" Before you could let Lloyd finish, you jumped into his arms, tossing him backwards on the bed.

His back hits your blanket and you laid on top of him.

You laughed into his shoulder before showing him your smile with small tears in your eyes. "Thank you." You squeaked, hugging him again, "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Your the best, I love you so much, Thank you, this was such a cute idea!"

Lloyd.EXE has stopped working.

"You're-you're not mad, or-or upset."

"Of course I was, but I realized it's you." You kissed his cheek, "I know you wouldn't forget my birthday because I know you'll remember sooner or later."

Lloyd's lips formed into a smile as you kissed his lips and pulled away. You took the box and closed it, shaking it.

"Now, what will the amazing Lloyd Garmadon do with the awesome Y/N L/N today!"

Monday - the start into the Christmas week.

And there were many festivities coming up for Pierre and you, so that you could hardly see each other. On Tuesday Pierre would already left for Faenza to attend the annual Christmas party of Alpha Tauri. So he would be back in Milan by Wednesday, but at that day there was your Christmas dinner at work. On Friday, was already Christmas Eve and Pierre's flight would be in the morning to his parents in Rouen. You only had today or Thursday evening to spend with each other.

You came home from work in the early evening and went straight to the shower. Before Christmas it was especially stressful at work and you needed a cold shower to come down. Pierre and you didn't made plans for today yet. You had only exchanged messages this morning at work, but nothing more.

It is important to both of you, that everyone has their space and time for themselves. This would also strengthen the trust of your still very young relationship.

Relationship. That sounded so weird to you. After more than one and a half years you had a boyfriend again. A younger one, who is also very attractive and a known racing driver. When you think about it like that, it just sounded totally unreal.

Meanwhile you sat on your couch and made yourself comfortable with a glass of wine. Your cell phone display lit up and you began to hope that it was Pierre after all. Wrong: it was the group chat with your 3 best friends. They asked for a wine evening via Zoom. Since you didn't have plans anyway, already opened a bottle of white wine and actually canceled meetings with them far too often, you accepted the invitation. You set up your laptop on your dining table and made yourself comfortable in one of the lounge chairs.

"Oh my God!" your friends are squeaking in chorus as you join the Zoom meeting.

"The queen graces us."

You toasted to your girlfriends with your wine glass and patted yourself on the back.

"How are you? I feel like I haven't seen you in ages."

"I'm doing great - going to Milan was the best decision in my life. I love my new job, I'm having an incredible amount of fun, the city is beautiful, I live in this unbelievably amazing apartment..." you gushed and your friends were listening spellbound.

"And what about the neighbor?" the friend, you spoke to on the phone just last week, interrupts you.

"Wait a minute, what neighbor?" the other one asked, looking at you through the screen with wide eyes. You rolled your eyes and took a big sip from your wine glass. Sooner or later they would find out and preferably they should hear it from you.

"Tell me who is this ominous neighbor?!"

"His name is Pierre Gasly and he is a French racing driver in Formula 1." your friend took the answer away from you.

You leaned back in your chair, she should tell first what she had found out about Pierre.

"Look at him!" she said, holding up a photo of Pierre on her phone into her laptop camera, "Unbelievable, isn’t he?".

"Wow, that's what I call a handsome man. But he's younger than you, right?"

"He's 26! 26!!!" again your friend answered for you.

"Can you shut up and let Y/N talk?"

You were very amused by the whole situation. It felt like you have never left Munich. Calming down, you raised your hands and leaned forward to get closer to the laptop. Your friends continued to look at you with big eyes, waiting for you to speak.

"Yes, he's younger and really attractive." you smiled to yourself, making your friends squirm.

"So?"

"So what?" you asked innocently, taking another sip from your wine glass.

"Why are we talking about this hot and young neighbor? There's something you're not telling us..."

Again you just grinned and stroked the back of your neck with one hand, "What can I say...I guess I am not single anymore."

"I knew it! But no, there's nothing going on between the two of you!" your friend almost shouted upset and imitated you. The other two were also kinda shocked at first, however they were happy for you.

"Tell us everything. What's he like?"

"He really has a great character and his heart is in the right place. We used the last 2 weeks intensively to get to know each other better and since a few days we decided to date."

"And how is the sex?"

"You don't ask that..."

"I couldn't give you an answer anyway." you smiled at your friend's curiosity.

"Wait. What? You actually bought a pig in a poke?" she asked incredulously.

"Well, we've only had oral sex so far."

You had no problem talking openly with your girlfriends about your sex life. Ever since you were teenagers, you talked about these topics and even years later you were still giving each other advice or were talking about certain intimate stories and experiences.

"Sorry if I'm being so forward..."

"That's new!" you laughed.

"We've known each other for so long and if he wasn't good in bed, you would never have said yes to be in a relationship with him."

You pressed your lips hard together and automatically thought back to how incredibly well he ate you out and fingered you. Sex in a relationship is incredibly important to you and if the chemistry in the bedroom wasn't right, the relationship would be doomed to fail in your opinion.

Your friend indicated an ever-widening gap with her index fingers, grinning mischievously.

"Forget it! I'm not going to tell you how big his dick is!" you laughed as well.

"Oh, come on." she said disappointedly, "Is it at least a boyfriend dick?".

You smirked at that term, "You have no idea.".

Just as your friends were about to ask you more about Pierre and his sexual skills, there's a knock on your door.

"Is that the sexy neighbor?”

"You mean her boyfriend!"

"Open the door. I want to see him!"

"Oh my god, you guys. Calm down..."

You got up from your seat, "Behave yourselves and don't be too awkward, will you?".

As you left the table to go to your front door, you heard getting huffy comments about your statement.

You opened the door and a gasping out of breath Pierre stands before you.

"Ma belle!" he greeted you joyfully and took your face in his hands to kiss you. In the background you two heard increasing "Awww”‘s.

Pierre interrupted the kiss and looked confused in the direction of your laptop.

"I'm having a spontaneous, virtual wine night with my girls." you explained in a near whisper and Pierre nodded in understanding, "Then maybe I should say hello...".

Without you prompting him, he walked up to the laptop and propped himself up on the tabletop, "Bonjour, ladies!".

He smiled mischievously at the camera and you saw the effect he had on your friends after just a few seconds. They were fascinated by him.

"I'm sorry to crash your wine date. However, I need my girlfriend's expertise urgently."

Your friends could barely get their words out and stammered something to themselves.

"I hope to see you in real life soon. Have a nice evening." smiled Pierre and slowly closed your laptop.

"I'll call you!" you shouted before he closed the laptop completely.

"I guess, I'm not supposed to know what you were talking about?" he asked as he turned back to you.

"Better not..." you whispered against his lips and kissed him passionately in response. After a few moments you detached yourself from him. Only now you noticed that there sweat was on his forehead.

"Why are you so sweaty?"

"Oh!" he said and jogged casually back to your front door, "I have something to show you!".

Skeptically, you followed him. You couldn't place his exuberant joy. Arriving at the door, you saw what was already waiting for you in the hallway: piles of boxes.

"Pierre... what's this?"

"Christmas decorations!" he said proudly, standing right next to the boxes.

"Oh my god!" you gasped in shock. You weren't in the mood for that at all.

"I want to spice up my apartment a little for the holidays and since I already have the world's best interior designer as my girlfriend, I should take advantage of it."

"You're effectively not here as of tomorrow. There's no point in decorating for Christmas."

"Exactly, the only chance left is today!"

Pierre couldn't be dissuaded from his plan, so you helped him carrying the boxes into his apartment.

Half an hour later, you had roughly inspected the contents of the boxes and were putting together a rough concept with the existing decorations in your head.

Pierre, on the other hand, was setting up a small, artificial Christmas tree in the corner of his living room. He was clearly enjoying it and humming Christmas carols to himself. You shook your head with a smile and began to unpack the first decorations out of the boxes. It was still a mystery to you how anyone could love Christmas that much. However, his anticipation was very contagious and so it was easy for you to decorate Pierre's apartment for Christmas.

Although you would call yourself the Grinch, you'll turned Pierre's living area into a cozy winter wonderland. Not too tacky, but still Christmasy enough. Pierre is thrilled and stands in the living room with both hands on his hips to look at everything.

"You really have talent! Ever thought of doing your own business?"

You laughed as you put the leftover decorations back into the boxes, "Too much paperwork!".

Pierre turned to you and helped you pack. In a few minutes, everything was stowed and the boxes were put away in his storage closet. Satisfied, you look at each other. "Good teamwork!" said Pierre with a smile and pulled you closer to him, into a tight hug.

Pleasurably you breathed in his scent and wrapped your arms around his neck. His presence just did you good.

"Thank you." purred Pierre into the crook of your neck and then gave you a loving kiss on the forehead. You looked up to him, into his wonderful blue eyes. You were hopelessly addicted to this man. Pierre puts his forehead against yours, your noses touched. You closed your eyes and you felt his breath on your Cupid’s bow. You two stayed in this position for a few seconds, enjoying the intimacy. Then his lips gently rested on yours. Only too gladly you intensified the kiss and open your mouth. Pierre immediately took this chance and let his tongue slip into your mouth.

After a few minutes, you break off your kiss. Your faces are still close to each other. He puts his hands on your hips to keep you close to him.

"I have to get up very early tomorrow." he sighs against your lips.

"I know..." you whisper disappointedly.

"I would love to take you with me."

"Next time."

Pierre smiled at the thought of taking you to Alpha Tauri's next official event.

"See you on Thursday night?" you asked as Pierre walked you to your apartment door.

"Absolutely!" Pierre agreed immediately and you two kissed goodbye again, "Bonne nuit, ma belle.".

The time without Pierre passed by slower than expected. In the last 2 weeks you saw each other every day, it almost seemed like you were in rehab now. How should you get through the holidays? You are almost embarrassed by your thoughts. Never before have you felt so dependent on the affection and touch of a single man.

Pierre sent you some photos of his stay in Faenza. Among other things, photos and selfies of himself in a suit. He is so insanely attractive, that it was almost outrageous.

A day later you returned the favor and sent him photos of you in a festive dress, elegant but still sexy. Pierre showered you with compliments. He would love to be with you and rip the dress off your body. He couldn't wait to see you on Thursday.

It was already afternoon as you start preparing for your dinner together. For the love of Pierre you had also decorated your apartment a little for Christmas, very discreetly though.

You are excited. You couldn't even explain why. You are just happy to see him again and spend time with him.

You quickly set the table while the food simmers on the stove and in the oven.

Afterwards you freshened up and put on the new lingerie set with the suspenders and stockings that you bought a few days ago. It's supposed to be a surprise for Pierre, so at least he had something to unwrap. Over it you wore a knee-length black silk dress with spaghetti straps. You left your hair open with light curls and put on a scarlet-red lipstick.

As you lit the last candles, there was a soft knock on your door. Your heart beats faster and before you opened the door to Pierre, you checked yourself once more in the mirror, stroke your dress straight and fixed your hair.

With an enchanting smile, you greeted Pierre, whose eyes immediately widened at the sight of you. His mouth was slightly open with excitement and his eyes examined your body several times.

"Are those for me?" you broke the silence and pointed to the large bouquet of red baccarat roses.

Pierre shook his head slightly to wake up from his daydream of you, "Of course, ma belle!".

Gratefully, you took the bouquet and lead the way. On the way to your living area, you wiggled extra with your butt to get Pierre already a little heated. The whole days you were excited and today would have been the last chance for a common night in a longer time.

Your plan worked out. Pierre's gaze immediately wandered to your butt, which was perfectly displayed in the silk dress. His mouth went completely dry, he would have loved to just grab you and fuck you right on the dining table. He wants nothing more than to make love to you. The little teasing and oral sex were great, but he finally wanted to feel you completely.

After putting the flowers in a vase of water, you finally turned to Pierre.

"I can't remember ever getting such a great bouquet of flowers!" you gushed, putting your arms around his shoulders, "Thank you!".

"You look beautiful." sighs Pierre, running his fingers along your sides, over the soft fabric of your dress. His delicate touches and the French accent had you wet right away. How on earth were you going to get through this dinner.

"Are you going to kiss me or not?" you asked Pierre almost impatiently, "By the way, the lipstick is kiss-proof!".

Pierre grinned and pressed a loving kiss on your red and full lips, "Too bad, I wouldn't mind a few marks...".

The sexual attraction between you was almost unbearable. Pierre's hands moved over your hips and pushed you against the edge of the table. He grabbed your thighs and set you down on the tabletop, spreading your legs to stand between them.

With your fingers, you undo the buttons of his sport jacket to run your hands over his torso. During this, you kiss intimately, almost as if you hadn't seen each other in weeks. Pierre's hands pull the silk fabric over your thighs and his fingers move to your inner thighs. Before he can run his hands over your lacy thong, you are startled apart by the oven's alarm clock.

"Dinner's ready," you gasped against his lips.

"I'd rather have dessert right now."

"I’ve put so much effort in it..." you pouted and Pierre can't help but to kiss your pouty lips again.

You let yourself slide off the tabletop and brushed against his hard crotch as you passed by. Pierre moaned slightly under your touch. You felt like playing today. It should be fine with him.

While you prepared the dishes, Pierre admired your small but fine Christmas decoration. He knew that you did it especially for him. He grinned and then spotted a new book display on the large shelf with the books and many picture frames.

A double-page spread of his Monza victory smiled at him. He couldn't help but grin at his photos, "I look pretty good on your shelf!".

"Except for the blonde hair."

"What do you have against the blonde hair?! I thought it looked awesome on me."

Pierre was starting to sound a little appalled by your statement.

"I’m just into brunettes." you laughed placatingly and gestured him to come to the table.

"Good, me too." he said mischievously, winking at you.

Pierre seemed to enjoy the food, even asking for a second serving. You chatted animatedly about the upcoming Christmas with the Gasly family. He loved his many nieces and nephews, but after a few days, the constant exposure to the kids was a bit too much for him.

"Do you have plans now for the up coming days?" he asked you.

"I'm going to stay here. I have a little catching up to do on my Formula 1 knowledge."

Even though he didn't liked to hear that you will be alone for the next few days, he smiled anyway since you are very interested in his passion and his life. Once again you spend a nice evening with many conversations.

"Will you excuse me?" you asked, after emptying your glass of white wine.

"Of course." he answered immediately.

You went to the bathroom and behind the door hung the short satin coat you had bought to match the lingerie set. A little bit of courage you had taken on. You were desperate to impress Pierre. God, it almost felt like you were about to have your first time. Almost timidly, you peeled the dress off your body and let it fall to the floor. You looked at yourself in the mirror, the lingerie set off your body perfectly and the suspenders even made you feel a little sinful.

With this newfound confidence, you put on your coat and tied it loosely so that Pierre could see at first glance what awaited him. Before going back to the living area, you prepared the bedroom by lighting some scented candles and dimming the light.

On tiptoes you went back to Pierre in the living room. He had made himself comfortable on your sofa. He was sitting with his back to you, so he didn't saw you approaching. In the meantime, he had taken off his jacket and was wearing only a dark, tight-fitting T-shirt. Gently you put your hands on his muscular shoulders and massaged him lightly.

Pierre looked up, directly into your angelic face. Your hands now moved over his chest muscles to his abs. Pierre relaxed and puts his head in his neck and the noticed that you have changed your clothes. He immediately turned towards you and can hardly hide his amazement.

A little shy you presented yourself and played with the bow of the silk coat.

"I thought we'd skip dessert and instead you'd unwrap your Christmas present in the bedroom."

Troy Quane and Nick Bruno on queer representation and mental health in Nimona

I attended a Q and A with Troy Quane and Nick Bruno, the directors of Nimona, four days ago. I tried to transcribe as much as I could but most of this is paraphrased

Obviously Nimona is filled with messages about queerness and mental health but the movie wasn't always explicitly about that. When they first came onto the project, they looked at the comic and said "Ok, it's a story about acceptance. That's easy." But they quickly found themselves getting stumped. They tried a few different plot lines, but none were really landing the way they wanted them to. So, they went back to the comic and asked themselves, "What about this resonated with audiences?" The main thing they found was the queer themes and they decided to lean into it.

The problem was that they had no idea how to do that so they started talking with people. They opened up the conversation to everyone on the production team, not just the story department, as well as lgbt support groups, their families, and even building facility workers. Once the conversation got started, Nick Bruno said it was amazing; "There were people I had worked with for sixteen years suddenly coming out because they felt comfortable doing so." As more people voiced their experiences Quane and Bruno realized that this story was going to be incredibly important to a lot of people.

That's part of the reason why they pushed hard for this movie to be made. They said that they finished a bunch of demo reels at Blue Sky and were going to show them to the team on Thursday. Disney shut down Blue Sky that Tuesday. They showed the reels anyway over zoom and said it was a very tearful meeting. A lot of the people whose voices and experiences had gone into it had to find jobs on new projects. They said they were calling as many industry friends as possible and pitching the reels to everyone they could because they felt it was too important a story to abandon. They knew how many personal experiences and feelings were already engrained in the story and how detrimental it would be, both to the story and their coworkers, if they let it die. They didn't want to lose the voices of "the people they loved" just because Disney said so.

They elaborated on this saying that the reason why Disney wanted to change it so much was that they felt it "was too specific a story to appeal to a wide audience." Troy Quane said that he actually found it was the opposite. The more they focused in on being othered because of queerness, the more they were able to explore being othered because of race, class, neurodivergence, disability, and a million other things. Because they got so specific, they were able to relate the story to everyone.

Troy Quane also said that he wasn't expecting the reaction they got to the movie. He shared a story about a screening they did in Toronto. He said, "Afterwards we were all kinda hanging out in the lobby and I saw a man hanging around in the back. He looked like he wanted to say something but was kind of nervous about it, so I waved him over. He said, 'Thank you for making this movie. The entire third act with Nimona...' And then he just broke down in my arms. I stood there for about five minutes hugging this stranger. It was astounding. ...I still haven't processed it." To lighten the mood, Nick Bruno joked, "I haven't had anyone hug me!" Quane responded with "I was just hugging you backstage!"

A group consisting of Girl Scout troop leaders and other advocates is pushing the Girl Scouts organization to issue a public apology to a St. Louis troop that disbanded last week and to take a stance in support of children in Gaza, among other demands. The former troop’s adult leader, Nawal Abuhamdeh, says the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri warned her of legal action over a fundraiser plan to sell bracelets and donate money to a Palestinian children’s relief fund. . . . . In previous emails with Nawal, the local branch cited concerns that the fundraiser was political, partisan, and against Girl Scout policies. Nawal’s troop has since disbanded from Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts of the USA organization offered a statement on Tuesday, noting that they “sincerely regret any hurt” caused by developments leading up to the warning. Officials described the situation as “a learning moment for our organization.” The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR) Missouri branch considers the statement a “positive first step” in addressing the situation. Nawal feels it wasn’t good enough. During a roundtable Zoom conference on Thursday, Nawal says the former troop’s girls, which included two of her daughters, “feel discouraged and unheard by Girl Scouts because no statements have been [directed] towards us, and our questions [about fundraising for causes in Gaza] were still unanswered.” “Their silence is very loud to us,” said Nawal. Tasneem Manjra, an adult leader for a northern California Girl Scouts troop also on the conference call, said, ‘To us, it looks like the Girl Scouts are backtracking because they got called out.” . . . . “The Girl Scouts celebrate young women finding their voices on causes they care about. Our council recognizes Troop 149 for identifying the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and creating a fundraiser to help. Our troops have always had the ability to support causes they care about, within the guidelines published by Girl Scouts. This has never been about the cause, but rather meeting Girl Scouts’ governing documents and maintaining our tax-exempt status. We were in communication with Ms. Abuhamdeh for several weeks and provided her with multiple options to find a way to continue the work, which are still available to this troop. We are sorry that Ms. Abuhamdeh chose to disband. We would welcome them back to the Girl Scout family.”

We got a big dump of snow on Wednesday and Thursday. I haven’t been out of the house since Tuesday and the cabin fever is beginning to fester. The cold snap has ended so the snow and ice are finally melting. — Tomorrow the kid and I have to go to physio and dental appointments. Hopefully, it’ll rain all night and clear out the rest. I’m not interested in slipping and falling.

I did a comedy show over Zoom on Thursday morning for a big news organization in New York. Mornings have been really hard on me and I was not feeling well. I dragged my ass to be online for 8:45am (it was for their “lunch and learn” and they’re 3 hours ahead). It turned out to be pretty fun and I’m so glad I kicked my ass to show up.

I felt inspired enough to re-work some old jokes right after doing the show. The next day was comedy class. The jokes went over well so that felt good.

I’ve been watching a lot of stand up as well. I wish I could recommend one but none have particularly blown my socks off. One was Pete Davidson’s: Turbo Fonzarelli. It started off gross. Then it was a little funny. Then it went gross again. Then I fell asleep for a few minutes, woke up, and his material got extra weird but I got a few chuckles and that was it. This special was the first one of his that I was able to sit through in its entirety (aside from falling asleep for those few minutes). All of his other specials are stupid and gross. I loved him on SNL so it’s disappointing to see his stand up. — Another special I watched was Dusty Slay’s Workin’ Man. It started out funny and then it got boring until about half way through and it got better. If his first few minutes weren’t funny, I would’ve probably shut it off. I think I laughed the hardest when he talked about doing his “TedX talk”.

I hate being stuck inside so much. The last 3 days I’ve been going on my parent’s elliptical instead of walks. It’s not the same but at least I’m getting some exercise. My kid was yelling at me because I went all haywire with cleaning the house yesterday. “You’re going to hurt yourself,” they exclaimed! I was just trying to stay busy while not going bat-shit cray-cray.

On Tuesday before the snow hit, I went for my first day back to Art Therapy. I always wanted to try needle felting so they showed me how. I made a swan. Keep in mind, it started off as a sheep. I also wet felted a rock. It makes a great paper weight. 😂

I had a number of appointments this week with the “shrink”, the neurosurgeon and I also had my Zometa (bone strengthening) infusion at the hospital. A doctor from the cancer clinic also called to see how I’m doing on the new chemotherapy drugs. My actual oncologist is away on paternity leave. My CT scan requisition got lost in the medical abyss so I told her I needed that done, ASAP. They forgot to include my cervical spine on the last requisition so it was probably a good thing it didn’t go through. Now I don’t need to get scanned twice. The neurosurgeon needs to see that to make sure all is well in my neck …and maybe, possibly I can start running again.

Today is the last day of my first cycle of the chemotherapy. I don’t feel great. I get lab work later this week so I’ll get to see my tumour markers. It’s easier to push through side effects when you know the treatment is working.

I also finished my 7th book for the month. The Creative Act By Rick Rubin.

Rick Rubin is one the greatest producers of all time. (I didn’t say the greatest but he’s definitely one of the top). He’s also a life-long meditator. He seems like a pretty “zen” guy. 🧘‍♂️ I enjoyed the book and found a few nuggets of inspiration. Mostly, I felt validated around my own insecurities when making any sort of art. Apparently, I’m not alone. The art still needs to be made, though! It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of it. Creating art and not feeling self-conscious nor judged around it is challenging. This has been one of my biggest hurdles. When I was younger, I’d get one negative remark and I didn’t want to create or play anymore. I just shut down. I felt too vulnerable to share that part of myself. It’s taken me this long to get over it. Now, I make art for me. — It’s a thick book but not a huge amount of content. Lots of blank space. I believe that was for effect to give “space” for what we just read and digest it. If you’re any sort of aspiring artist, you may enjoy this book.

I’m meeting with my volunteer coordinator soon to plan for a Chronic Conditions leader training that is starting next week. We’ll both be facilitating it (over Zoom). I’m looking forward to that.

This week, I have to face some dreaded paperwork. I’ve been really dragging it out and have to get it done. It’s stressful and gives me a stomach ache, though. Blah.

I also finally started Stephen King’s Fairy Tale. So far, it’s good. Apparently, it’s a true “fairy tale” (not a horror). So that’s my plan for tonight… along with a cup of tea, of course. Although, the kid just informed me they want to watch the movie “Dumb Money” so I may do that instead.

So I just watched Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. (Rented from Redbox)

It was good and I really liked it. If I could just change one thing it would be this. Spoilers I guess but it’s been out on DVD for a bit.

I think it would’ve been hilarious, if at some point there something like this happened….I’m not sure where, but somewhere before something ridiculous happens, like when Doric changed into the owlbear and smashed Sofina around. There’s a zoom in on Doric and she says, “I Hulk Smash Sofina into the ground.” and there’s just a disembodied voice that says, “pardon?”

Cut Away gag. 5 random big name actors sit around the table, I’m talking like Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Natasha Lyonne, Anne Hawthaway and like Brad Pitt are sitting around a table. (Sort of think how in the later Thor movies Matt Damon is playing the actor playing Loki just cause cameos. Pick and choose who it is but I really like especially Ryan and Natasha as I think they’d both have fun)

Natasha: “what? I grab Sofina and just smash her into the ground repeatedly like Hulk did to Loki in Avengers.

Ryan (who I picture is playing Ed): “that would be funny”

Brad (disgruntled DM) “don’t encourage her, by the Anne roll a D20”

Anne: “wait, why?” *rolls* “4,”

Brad: “okay we’ll get back to that,”

Natasha: “I rolled a 19 on my strength check, plus I get a +4 in owlbear shape”

Matt and Ryan: “Hulk Smash Hulk Smash Hulk Smash”

Brad: “okay fine”

Cuts back to the movie as normal.

Then maybe change the mid-credit scene. As much as I found of funny, change it to this.

Brad: “okay I think that wraps up this session. Should we end the campaign here or should we find another quest?”

Matt: “I’m not giving up my character. I just got some killer artifacts.”

Natasha: “yeah I love my Druid”

Anne: “it would suck to stop here after we wasted the stone on me. If we were going to stop my character might as well have stayed dead.”

Brad: “okay next session, how does Monday night work?”

Matt: “I can’t, I have a late shift,”

Brad: “okay Tuesday?”

Natasha; “I work at 5am on Wednesday, I can’t stay out too late.”

Brad: “so Wednesday night will be out too cause you’ll be out by 9. Thursday?”

Anne: “Date Night,”

Brad: “Friday?”

Ryan: “My daughter has a dance recital,”

Brad: “and my in-laws are coming on Saturday through Wednesday morning for 4th of July on Tuesday”

Cuts back to the credits but you continue hearing them in the background instead of music for another 90 seconds trying to find a date. The music fades back in before one is decided.

I just think it would have been really funny. I get that in the middle of the movie it might take away from the whole one dying and the sacrifice Ed makes for choosing not to revive is wife and reviving Holga instead (which by the way got major Onward vibes from that. The whole “I never had a dad but I always had you.” Sort of being Kira never had a mom but always had Holga) if we know they aren’t real, but I really feel it would have really made it a D&D movie having actual dice gags and the whole not being able to plan a session.

Anyways, good fun movie. Might buy it so I can watch it again. I could totally see in the movie parts that were totally crit fail and successes.

I’m thinking seeing the trailers made me really finalize wanting to play it. I do a small campaign with one other person who plays a character and DMs and we have a lot of fun.

Anyways, sorry for the long post. But that’s what I thought.

I was going to post my annual everything I watched in 2023 post but I feel like I missed my opportunity, so here is my everything I watched in January 2024... (Be Warned there are some spoilers, I do try to mark them throughout the review)

My Lovely Boxer (2023, Kim Min-joo)

Main leads: Lee Sang-yeob, Kim So-hye, Park Ji-hwan, Kim Hyung-mook, Kim Jin-woo, Ha Seung-ri, Chae Won-bin

Country: S. Korea

Run: August 21 to Oct 2, 2023 (KBS2, Monday and Tuesday @21:45 (KST))

Episodes: 12, 70 min

Thoughts: Lee Kwon-sook (Kim So-hye) is a boxer who is forcibly thrown back into the world boxing that she has retired from by a sports agent Kim Tae-young (Lee Sang-yeob). I really liked how they balanced the characters. Lee Kwon-sook is a cheerful girl who is constantly haunted by her past. And she is allowed agency to do what she can do, despite the efforts of others. And the relationship between Lee Kwon-sook and Kim Tae-young, though slightly toxic, works in an odd way. I did have problems with how they reconnected her with her father.I personally wouldn’t have forgiven him. However, I loved the relationship with Han Ah-reum, and just how that story ends. I thought it was done very well. Overall I have really enjoyed this drama. Rating:

Unlock My Boss (2022-2023, Kim Hyung-min)

Main leads: Chae Jong-hyeop, Seo Eun-soo, Park Sung-woong

Thoughts: Oh wow, this is more enjoyable than I imagined. Chase Jong-hyeop as Park In-seong is so fun. He is adorable, down to earth but capable. Jun Se-yeon (Seo Eun-soo) was amazing and I loved her complexities as a character. And the trio of Kim Seon-joo (Park Sung-woong), Park In-seong, and Jun Se-yeon, was so fun and I loved the little family they formed. I literally cried so much during this show for no reason. Like the zoom into the phone literally made me sob each time for no reason. Rating: Who knew electronics can have that much range?

Night Has Come (2023, Kang Min-Ji)

Main leads: Lee Jae-In, Kim Woo-Seok, Choi Ye-Bin, Cha Woo-Min, Ahn Ji-Ho, Jung So-Ri

Country: S. Korea

Run: Dec 4,, 2023 ( U+mobiletv)

Episodes: 12, 35 to 40 min

Thoughts: This started off really good. A class gets thrust into a mafia game to the death. You along with the characters are wondering who is the mafia among the students and who is forcing this game. It is really interesting, but the episodes follow the same pattern. The end you find everything out, and it's kind of stupied. They had a classmate who committed sucide due to a badly edited image of herself on a skimply clad woman’s body. Which is yeah bad. Then her parents take revenge on the whole class. They are placed in this mafia simulator to repeat the game over and over again. It ends with Lee Yoon-seo able to remember everything, but still trapped in the simulator. Like where their parents are. People must be concerned right. Rating: Sisphyus boulder, I guess…

The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract (2023-2024, Go Nam-jeong)

Main leads: Lee Se-young, Bae In-hyuk, Joo Hyun-young, Yoo Seon-ho, Jo Bok-rae

Country: S. Korea

Run: Nov 24, 2023 to Jan 6, 2024 (MBC TV Friday and Saturday @21:50 (KST))

Thoughts: This was a cute drama. It starts off with a cute romance between a progressive woman in Joseon and a sick scholar. However, it quickly becomes a tragedy and she is sent to the year 2023 with her hand maid Sa-wol (Joo Hyun-young). It quickly becomes a fish out of water for Park Yeon-woo (Lee Se-young), but luckly she meets the recacrante of her late husband Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk) and they make a deal. It is a cute drama and I loved the cast of characters. Yeon-woo is easy to root for. Sa-wol is adorable, and adapts quickly. Kang Tae-ha is prickly but has a heart of gold. It's dramatic and fun. It's nothing special, but oh is it so good. My favorite part is Yeon-woo and Sa-wol’s relationship. Thoughts: This was a lot like Taxi Driver. In the way you have an episodic feel with a charismatic male lead seeking revenge and helping people. I had a lot of fun with this show, and I don’t use the comparison lightly either. I really had fun with it. The romance was okay, but I liked the different stories, and the main revenge plot was easy to follow along with. Woo Do-hwan is a great actor and meant to be a leading man. It's definitely not my favorite and there are a few things that needed changing but it was fun overall! Rating: Who do you call?... Joseon Attorney!!!

Thoughts: This is a yearly anthogolgy series that follows various characters in various time periods with various goals. I thought a lot of them were really cool and interesting. “Love Attack” was by far one of my favorites, but I also really liked “The True Love of Madam” which was shocking for me. It was also hard to find any subs for “Overlap, Knife, Knife” so I had to rely on visual cues and the small amount of Korean I know. But I thought this was a fun anthrologie series, and the stories are fun and fresh. Rating: I love getting short and quick stories like this, its the reason I love short films so much.

They also lost me at the end, I can not lie. Rating/Spoiler: Also I would be so angery if I found out my family curse passed down for generations was over a misunderstanding. I would want an apology, reparations, and revenge. On another note, I would also be so pissed if I killed myself to save my servant's baby; then my boyfriend finished off the dying father, then cursed the child and its offspring. Thoughts: This show was good for what it was. It has the vibe of a college student film with a mix of those youtube series made by middle schoolers back in 2009. And I mean that with the highest praise. The sound mixing was off, they had limited cast (background actors is what you are looking for), no interesting lighting (but very well light- i.e the student film vibes), and the actors new to the scene. I loved every motherfucking moment. It was so cheesy, the script was bad, and nothing made sense. But I knew that it was made with passion. Rating: It would be horrifying being 20 forever

She will stab the man assualting her friend and cover it up. She would cut the amicable cord, she would stab the mother’s hand. She isn’t pure of heart, she neveer claimed to be. I love her so much. And her relationship with Lee Jang-hyun. The ending of episode 10. I was sobbing. Rating: I am trying to hype myself up to watch the next 11 episodes, people had to wait inbetween…

Which is fine, and also coming back in style apparently. I’m sat for season 2, but not with much hope. Thoughts: I was excited for this drama. I really liked Doom at Your Service which promised to have a similar vibe. Which it did to an extent. I actually hate Song Kang in romances and only really like him in nonromance shows. However I think he did really well as Jeong Gu-won. I liked the overall Romance in the show. But I did think the revenge plot got uninteresting and confusing after a while. I do like the ending, I was pretty satisfied with where everyone ended up, which has been a long time since I’ve been this satisfied.

Thoughts: This was cute and was far above my expectations. I am always uneasy with Ji Chang Wook, I can’t forgive him for the Melting My Heart drama a few years back, but I would do anything for Shin Hye-sun. So I gave this drama a go, and I liked it. I loved the vibes, and I didn’t mind that revenge wasn’t the main plot. It's like the one line “my enemies will take themselves out before you get a chance to swing.” It was heartwarming and I’m glad that Cho Sam-dal was able to find peace in her hometown. I loved the feel of community. I loved all the Friendships. It was very lovely. And I’m happy at the ending. I will also give my entire heart to Cho Hae-dal and Cha Ha-yul. I loved their mother-daughter relationship. I wanted more screen time for both. Rating: I’m glad there is a little piece of heaven…

Thoughts: *Major Spoilers+ Rant ahead.* This show makes me unneccsarly angery. It is a daily drama and a Makjang to boot, so literally put any and all expectations in the gutter. Everything is nonsensical, and drawn out to reach the 119 mark. Storylines get dropped or move way too fast. It has a strange family tree and for a moment every single person was supposbly related. They have so much evidence agsaint the scheming Kang Ji-ho (Oh Chang-suk) and Joo Se-young (Han Ji-wan) but it goes nowhere. Speaking of Kang Ji-ho, he was just straight up dispicable. I would say more than Se-ypung of Ma Hyun-Deok (Ban Hyo-Jung). He was a terrible partner and father from the start. He literally tossed his entire family out the door for Se-young and eventual power. He only paid attention to his daughter Kang Han-Byeol (Kwon Dan-A) when she was able to benefit him. He was at best neglectful and at worst abusive towards her. Han-byeol was the true victim. Hye-soo (Kim Kyu-Seon) actually had a motive in the beginning. She was just pathetic and weak but once she returned they weirdly sidelined her. Also I don’t know why Kang Ji-ho never got prosecuted for trying to kill Hye-soo. Like I find that to be one of his more egregious crimes. Like that is the mother of your child. You gave your child so much trauma, for what? Power? Like when they tried to redeem him at the end I was just fed up. You can’t make hime out to be the big bad guy for 118 episodes, and then have him do one good thing. He is a bad father, and when Han Byeol grows up she will resent him. Rating: Fuck this show, like actually.

I enjoyed the refutement from blame, that people who experienced the worst horrors known are somehow blamed. Gil Chae pushes back on this sentiment herself. This entire time I just wanted Jang-hyun and Gil Chea together. Which took the entire part for them to finally be happy. I do think the ending was kind of wobbly, and they only really needed 10 episodes not the 11. But who am I to say? Anyways I enjoyed the show overall. Rating: My Dear Husband…

Main Romance is actually not good, I felt no chemistry between Kim Jung-Hyun and Im Soo-hyang. I did like the romance between Tae Jeong-won (Kim Da-som) and Han Cheol (Ahn Woo-yeon) other than that The show overall fell flat. I did like the scenery and the setting. I thought it was fun. Vague places - Termoral spaces // Workshop at HDK-Valand Steneby

Three days outside work with Design BA students from all three departments. The week started with collaborative work in small scale, with mixing materials and for the students to find a method to work together. Wednesday - Friday we worked outside, still in the groups, with full scale spatial work in various materials. The students had collected material in the beginning of the week som there was plenty of wood and fabric to work with. Intense days in the rain. Lots of laughter and hard work. Truly great days.

Workshop setup:

You will need clothes for outdoor work, we'll be outside regardless of weather.

Monday morning

● 09.00-10.00 Zoom

● Short presentation of MASU, the work for the week and presentation

of the workplace.

● Division into groups 6 (5) if from different departments

Monday afternoon and Tuesday

● Groups gather to build 10 joint sculptures with materials from their

respective department and area of interest.

● Relate to the theme Vague places and temporal spaces.

● The sculptures shall be max. 20 cm high.

● In addition to this, the group needs to gather lots of materials plus

assembly items and tools to build spatially on a 1:1 scale during

Wednesday afternoon, Thursday, and Friday. You can either gather

the material down at the site by the water or in connection in your

workshops.

Wednesday morning

● 09.00

● MASU is invited to your exhibition of all sculptures, all groups

together.

● All groups present the intention with their sculptures.

● The works are grouped in any way in relation to other people's

sculptures, in any place down by the water.

● After the exhibition, each group selects three sculptures from the

entire exhibition.

● The three works are photographed or drawn in different spatial

conditions.

Wednesday afternoon, a process-oriented work on spatial understanding starts.

● The groups will build on a 1:1 scale down on the parking lot with the

materials you have collected.

This week was supposed to be focused solely on the website and visual elements, but I attempted to tackle more than I could handle in order to present them in the mid-Jury. I still feel somewhat lost amidst the multitude of tasks, and the mid-Jury is approaching quickly with limited time available.

It was scheduled for me to meet with the expert who would assist me last week, so I met with her last Thursday. She provided me with some resources, reviewed my articles, and gave me additional ideas. The conversation was flexible and productive.

On Tuesday of this week, I met with another expert, Haifa from Boost agency. We met via Zoom and discussed my designs and what I aimed to achieve. However, I encountered an issue with Zoom regarding the clarity of the designs, so I sent them to her via WhatsApp.

I started designing the blog prototype using XD, creating several home pages and article pages. However, XD doesn't support Arabic well, so I'm now considering starting directly with Webflow. I watched tutorials for things I haven't dealt with before, so I'll start this weekend.

I wrote four and a half articles, and I outlined what the other articles will be about and came up with titles for some of them. Since I've finished four articles now, I feel I'll be more prepared to focus on article illustrations. What takes me a long time is that I'm meticulous and like to research deeply. Also, I want the writing style to resemble old books, so I strive to emulate that, which takes some time in rewriting.

I chose a style for the illustrations; I liked how the typefaces are different, with contrast, blending silent shapes and outlines. However, the challenge lies in drawing the rest of the illustrations in the same style.

I started designing the posts, but I plan to gather more inspirations and finish the illustrations first before starting them.

I also created visual elements, but I didn't like them, feeling that their style is different from what I want, and they're not consistent with the rest of the brand. So, I came up with another idea that I'll also try.

Despite working hard this week and starting many tasks, I feel I'm very late to catch up with the mid-Jury.

December

hello everyone, i know it's already day 23 of January 2024, literal almost a month after the month ends and is already on another year, but at least i'm here yaaay (i really need to start writing the monthly post a week before said month ends 😭)

December was actually, just as thrilling cliff-hanging as November! thing is my countdown to my other coldplay show was finally down to under 50 days and it was also the end of the very first semester.

just in the true fashion of my life, my adventure this time is: going back and forth between Jakarta and Tasik in under 24 hours (22 hours to be exact!) on a back-to-back journey just for school and seeing my hometown again 😂

so, as you can tell, i have so many assignments and one of them is a practical skill's lab project where i have a typodont (a phantom model of human teeth embedded in wax) and i pretend to apply orthodontic treatment on it to correct the malocclusion. it was not easy at all. it's quite literally a simulation of what will happen and what should i do when i treat an actual patient. the project lasted for almost five months and even the class didn't stop once the semester break came around, that is why i had to go back and forth between Jakarta and Tasik: i don't want to lose my holidays while still having to attend the weekly class 😂

some will say i'm insane because it's so tiring to do so and indeed it was super exhausting. but if you know me, i'm the type to do just about anything for my loved ones (my parents were staying at Tasik to take care of things and it's been a while i visited my grandparents' last resting place) so it was no big deal at all to endure 7 hours of bus trip each and then 1 hour commute to the station/home. a total 16 hours in 48 hours timeframe spent on the road. and it's worth it, every second of it, because i got to relax and work in the middle of lush green and rice fields... it was the very definition of healing time. i was still under the pressure of stress and deadline to finish that last project, but at least i did it while being surrounded by serene nature and with my mum and dad 😂😂😂 it's such a nice drastic change to do wire bending with all my pliers and stainless steel wires and orthodontic brackets with herd of ducks quacking loudly near me and farmers ploughing soil to plant rice seeds... best part? zero pollution! no light/sound/air pollution whatsoever and i get to see amazing sceneries right out of my windows every day! rain every evening to help me and my mum water the plants (which are thriving!) Mt Galunggung in its majestic full view... woah. it's my best treasure tbh nothing else compares

the most unexpected thing was that our class for that subject/project is usually scheduled on Thursday (so for the first back-and-forth journey i made sure to go back to Jakarta on Wednesday and get back to Tasik on Thursday right after the class ended) and for the second week, my prof suddenly requested us to come to the campus on Tuesday, and guess when did he sent the message to inform us? 6 AM on said Tuesday!!!!! oh you couldn't imagine my panic, how am i supposed to be in Jakarta in less than 4 hours!? thankfully my prof is a lenient one and he let me and kak Mandy (who was in Bandung at the time) to join the class from zoom. another good news is that class is to be our closing session for the project, and that i can just send my typodont instead of coming in person to submit the assignment. yet again Allah's plan is always better than my most carefully thought of one 🥺

the rest of the break i get to spend every day at my hometown just recharging my energy and soaking every positive molecule there is, and my mum have this brilliant idea to buy a table tennis equipment!

at first, not fully knowing the impact of my mum's seemingly random decision, i opposed the buying of said table tennis because it's quite expensive. but after it arrived and i got to play against my mum and dad (who happen to be great players!) i finally understand that my mum knew fully well i don't like outdoor sports (solely because i hate the sun getting my face so red lol) so table tennis is the best option! it's so fun to play and i still get to exert my whole body to get that exercising regime my nutritionist has told me years to do so 😂

for new year's eve, the end of 2023 is the quietest one yet. with just my parents, deep in the greens, miles from the city, and just watching Pengabdi Setan 2/Satan's Slaves 2 (exactly my style hahaha getting my dad to watch it!) i moved over to 2024. just saying and sending out my prayers to welcome the new year and hope i can go through whatever i must face in the future. and again, just how i like it, not many fireworks were blasted so it wasn't that rowdy. it almost didn't feel like NYE celebration, all is calm and cool.

i love slow living, far away from the crowded areas, i could quite literally stay in my hometown at my house and just. be there 😂 it's so easy for me because as long as i have my loved ones with me and a roof above my head, enough to live and get by... that is all. to reach that tranquility and peace of mind is one of the highest priority/goal for me. hope one day after i've accomplished my dreams i get to reside and rest where my heart has always been dwelling.

here's to another journey in 2024, i hope we can together make it through. see you in the January post, that as i said in my Nov one, i'm counting down 3 days to my trip to Singapore and 4 days until i see coldplay again, historic moment as i'll be back to the stadium where i first saw the band 7 years ago!!! see you all soon 💙

Macau + Hong Kong

Greetings from China!

I will be spending the next month or so traveling around China! I have been here before way back in 2018, but I was only able to spend a week here back then. China has only very recently reopened its borders post-COVID, and my friend Irene has been living and working here since 2019, we haven’t seen each other for 3.5 years so I’ve was so excited to have the chance to come here!

I’ve already been here for almost a week, so I’m very behind on posting. On Tuesday of last week I packed up my classroom for the year and moved everything over to my new school. I have been teaching at my former school for the last 7 years; but this year was definitely the hardest of my career (even including the year spent teaching on Zoom) for a lot of reasons so long story short I quit my job and now have a new job next year teaching 4th grade at a school down the road from my old school. This all happened very suddenly so Tuesday my Dad and I spent the entire day packing and moving 7 years worth of classroom stuff; then after that I packed up my bags and headed to the airport.

After almost a day of travel I landed in Macau on Thursday afternoon. Macau is not technically part of Mainland China, it is sort of its own autonomous region. They have their own flag and currency and everything but they are still considered owned by China. I met Irene at the airport there and we got settled in.

Macau used to be a Portuguese colony, and you can definitely see all the Portuguese influences. All the signs are in Cantonese and Portuguese, and Macau itself looks like a lot of places in Spain. I’ve been trying to teach myself some basic Mandarin and between that and my Spanish could sort of kind of figure out what was going on. Macau is also kind of considered the Las Vegas of China, there are tons of very lavish casinos all over the place.

Our first day we visited a beach and drank from coconuts, then we headed over to the casino area to look at all the ridiculously fancy buildings. They had very realistic replicas of Paris, London, LA, and Venice. We went inside the Venetian which was so incredibly fancy. They had replicas of the canals and gondolas and everything, similar to the Venetian in Las Vegas. We went and got Portuguese Eggs Tarts at the Venetian; which Macau is famous for. Then we walked around for a while.

We stumbled upon a gigantic manmade wetland with an enormous lotus garden. The lotuses were taller than a person, and we were wandered about there for a while with a busker playing in the distance; it was very magical.

Macau is in southern China, very close to Hong Kong, so it is very hot and humid. It was over 90% humidity most of our time there, so we were constantly drenched in sweat.

Our second day we did a day trip to Hong Kong; which is also a technically a territory of China but is more independent. They also have their own separate currency and used to be a British colony; so it was very distinctive from Macau and from Mainland China. I’d been to Hong Kong before back in 2017 while on a long layover to The Philippines, but it is such a cool city and I was glad to go back. Hong Kong is only about 30 miles away from Macau, and they recently constructed a sea bridge over the ocean connecting the two cities, it is the longest sea bridge in the world. We took a bus across the bridge to get there.

Hong Kong is the most vertical city in the world. It doesn’t have the tallest buildings, but it has more buildings taller than 30 stories than anywhere else in the world. It is very compact and with so many people living there people take advantage of every inch of vertical space. We visited a famous photo spot at an enormous apartment building called ‘The Monster Building’ which really demonstrates just how crowded Hong Kong is. We took some photos there and had a matcha break in a thankfully air conditioned cafe before heading over to a dim sum place.

Hong Kong is famous for its dim sum. Dim sum is basically a variety of smaller dishes like steamed buns and dumplings that are steamed in bamboo baskets. We ordered 6 different dishes and were so stuffed we spent an hour in a mall afterward to come out of our food coma.

After that we went and visited the waterfront and saw the impressive city skyline and a monument to Hong Kong’s national flower, the Bauhinia, which is on their flag. Then we went and caught the ferry back to Macau in a torrential downpour.

Later that night we went and had dinner at a Portuguese wine bar with one of her former coworkers and his wife. We tried port and had a fancy cheese board.

On our third day we explored the historic city center, which was very very Portuguese. We saw the ruins of St. Paul’s cathedral, which was destroyed in a fire, and the old fort which had a great view of the city. We had a delicious dim sum break, visited a temple, explored the main city square, visited an enormous Japanese grocery store, and spent the rest of the evening resting, enjoying our haul from the Japanese store, and watching dramas.

Sunday morning we made our way to Beijing. I was very nervous about getting in to Mainland China, given how strict they are about everything, even more so post-Covid, but it was very seamless and we got in just fine.

I’ll post more about Beijing later this week, as this post is already far too long. I will be here in Beijing with Irene for about a week before I go off to travel on my own. I’ve been very glad to have Irene showing me the ropes these first few days, China is very overwhelming given just how enormous everything is and the language barrier. I’ve also been very glad to spend time with her after not having seen her for over 3 years. After this very stressful school year; its been very rejuvenating to spend time with her exploring and traveling.

This week’s astrology forecast: April 3rd - 9th

Message for the week: We walk together.

The week starts off with a bit of mental tension with Mercury (the mind) moving into Taurus and in a disruptive square to eruptive Pluto on Monday—it might be best to work by yourself on this touchy day. However, mental energy stabilizes and is fortified the rest of the week with Mercury moving into harmonious aspects to Saturn and Mars—determination pays off.

The main feature of this week’s astrology is Wednesday’s Full Moon in Libra with the Sun in Aries conjunct both Chiron (the wounded healer) and expansive Jupiter. Individual healing can take place and is facilitated by healing wounded relationships. You can’t heal alone. We heal with each other—your well-being is interdependent on the well-being of your relationships.

Relationships are further enhanced this weekend with Venus (relationships) being uplifted by inspirational Neptune, as well as Mercury being in harmony to Mars—bringing clarity to communications.

Monday: Lace up your boots and get going on whatever needs attention, with the Moon in effective, efficient Virgo and in a harmonious trine to the Venus/Uranus conjunction. However, you may want to work by yourself with Mercury entering Taurus and in a square to Pluto, when others can be defensive, leading to petty disagreements erupting into blowouts.

Tuesday: You may feel like sleeping in and staying in the dreamworld and, with the day beginning with the Moon in Virgo opposite Neptune (enchanting fantasies). Once you get going, a productive, harmonious day unfolds. Relationships and negotiations are enhanced as the Moon enters cooperative Libra this afternoon and trines Pluto.

Wednesday: The Full Moon in Libra occurs at 9:34 PM PDT, with the Sun being conjunct both Chiron (the wounded healer) and amplifying Jupiter in Aries (new beginnings). A good day to bring the healing energy of Chiron to yourself and to your relationships with others. Mercury is sextile to Saturn, bringing stability to the mind and clarity to communications.

Thursday: A harmonious day for relationships and all cooperative endeavors with the Moon in accommodating Libra. However, watch for the tendency to over promise and take on more than is realistic, with the Moon being opposite overly optimistic Jupiter.

Friday: Two favorable sextiles occur today with Venus being sextile Neptune, enhancing the ability to appreciate beauty and love, as well as Mercury sextile Mars, enhancing communication with clarity and directness. The Moon is in deep-diving Scorpio in a supportive grand trine with Saturn and Mars—take intimacy and close relationships to a deeper level.

Saturday: Expect the unexpected at the start of the day, with the Moon in Scorpio opposite unpredictable Uranus. You may feel reticent about joining into all the opportunities available today, preferring privacy and deep one-to one relationships. The Moon trines Neptune tonight, gracing the evening with a peaceful, easy feeling.

Sunday: This is a good day for an Easter Egg hunt, getting out of doors for a hike or bike ride, as well as gatherings with friends and family, with the Moon entering “always up for a celebration” Sagittarius in a flowing sextile to Pluto. There is a square to inhibiting Saturn midday, testing patience, but otherwise, an upbeat day to get out and explore what life has to offer.

There are major shifts occurring with Pluto moving into Aquarius (for the next twenty years) as well as Saturn shifting into Pisces, joining Neptune—this is an essential paradigm shift of moving from the structured past to the still to be invented future. Pluto had been in the Earth sign Capricorn for the last fifteen years, leading to one’s self-worth being based on their, wealth, possessions, and status in the world. With the shift into the Air sign Aquarius, one’s self-worth will be based on their ideas, the ability to connect with others, build community, and contribute to the evolving awakening of humanity that is the potential of this era.
