Cannibros the interlude with cal and wild
this was written with my lovely wives @angry-trashcan and @neverchecking <333 It's a continuation of these two fics! It was so stupidly fun to write - like anything working with my wives <3 - and this time no one gets eaten! It's about 4.5k words of househusband au world building and is just <33
Tumblr media
“Wild was gonna light someone on fire. No, not quite a someone. That would infer they were little more than a pest he was gonna squash between his toes. Little more than a dead cockroach walking. Wild would show that little shit what was coming to him. It was just a matter of time before he slipped up and Wild could pin him in a corner and give him the worst wedgie he’s ever received-
“Woah there, champ-” Twilight quickly grasped his arm, slowing the stewing teen down to a halt. “What’s got your britches in a bunch?”
“That little, no good, down right awful, bottom feeding, waste of a good set of lungs-”
Twilight raised a brow. “...Are-...Are you talking about Wind?”
Wild fought the urge to hiss at the name of ‘He-who-Shall-Not-be-Named’. “Don’t say his name.”
“...Enil-?”
This time Wild did hiss, throwing up his hands with his fingers curled into claws.”DON’T-”
“DAD! DAD WILD WON’T STOP CALLING ME INSULTS!”
“Mother fucker…”
“Great, you see what you did Twi, you encouraged him”
Nursing the fresh bite on his arm that he got as wind struggled out of his hold that he barely managed to get him into, barely, barely getting him and twilight interfered. Now all he has to show for it is the growing bruise on his forearm.
“GET BACK HERE YOU LIL’ SHIT!”
“You two need to cut the shit.” Twilight hissed, grabbing at Wild’s arm.
“He need to leave me alone!” Wind cried out, running around Sage’s back and hiding behind it.
“I need to eat you fuckin’ alive.” Wild yelled lunging towards Wind. Wind cried out, hiding behind Sage completely. Sage rolled his eyes, laughing a bit. Twilight did the same.
“I think you two need to go to bed is what needs to happen.” Sage pulled Wind around to the front of him before pushing him in the direction of his room.
“Dad he’s going to kill me!”
“He ain’t gonna kill ya.” Twilight laughed, doing the same to Wild with a small huff.
“You don’t KNOW that, though!” The kid retaliated, turning to watch Wild snarl at him like some form of predator. He wasn’t scared of Wild, oh no, but he did want to save his poor ego the blow once Wind kicked his butt.
“You have my scout’s honor, pup.” Twilight winked. It did not reassure Wind. Twilight was not, was never, and probably would be a Scout.
He was going to die. And they were going to let it happen. He knew he should’ve donated Wild to the local animal rescue when he had the chance.
“Are you two still fighting over the last kinder?”
“Stay out of this cal.”
“So you are then?”
His smug look did nothing to help calm wild down, and seeing the look worsening like that did nothing to help reassure wind either. Not that it was supposed to. Cal being the “innocent” one that he is could afford to rile them up all he pleased but never have the blame fall onto him. Why would the top of the class student do that after all? “Wind shouldn’t have taken something that wasn’t his, He knew it was mine.”
“He’s a pirate - he was a pirate, can you blame him?”
Something about that little bit actually stuck wind worse than anything else that was said to him by wild earlier. The reminder that the things he cared for like that were stuck far in his past now.
Wind froze in his spot, looking down. “You didn’t have to fuckin’ remind me.” He whispered, turning to the hallway. “The damn egg is in the second drawer in the kitchen. You can have it.”
Cal watched as he went down the hallway before Wild hit the back of his head, “You idiot. Why’d you say that?!” He rubbed the place he hit him, not looking away from the hallway. “Did you get some kinda joy out of that?”
Cal shook his head, “No, I just wanted you to shut up. It was annoying.”
Wild hit him again, this time in the ribs. “You’re fuckin’ annoying.” He turned to the hallway himself, making his way to the twin’s shared room.
“Calcifer, that wasn’t okay. You know that.”
“How would you know what’s okay? Your moral train isn’t exactly linear.” Cal snarled angrily, hackles raising as he watched Sage carefully. Something flickered in his gaze, something quick and something damn near dangerous before it fell away. A twinge of regret bubbled in his gut at the reminder that he had hurt Wind in his anger, an innocent party in all of this really (Well, Semi-innocent, he did steal that damn-forsaken egg). But Wind was gone and all that was left in front of him was Twilight and Sage. Twilight, who he was sure was in on it as well and Sage. The mastermind behind it all. He didn’t think of Sage as overly smart, but since the revelation a part of him knew better. Sage was smarter than the rest of them thought he was.
“I have enough of one to still know what is and isn’t right.” “...”
The dirty glare leveled towards his “father” was enough to both chill the room and clue them into the fact that he knows something that by Sage’s standards he shouldn’t. Not enough to know what it is that he knows, but enough to know.
“You should keep a closer eye on Wind, you don’t want him learning the wrong things, do you?”
“What are you implying with that Calcifer… what would I ever need to be careful of him learning, I know what to be careful of.”
“Well after all you and I are rather similar… I’m just… better.”
The silence was enough to chill the room even further, making it easily mistaken for a freezer, clearly he said something that pushed Sage’s limits.
Sage’s eyes were like daggers on the boy. “I think you should go to bed, too.”
“You’re trying to send me off too?”
“Cal-”
“The only use for a motor not meant to start, is to become an expendable part.” Cal breathed out, looking to the ground.
“Cal, I agree. Go to bed.” Sky spoke up, standing from the table.
Cal looked over to him, his eyes void of anything signifigant. “You too? You’re just going to push me away?”
“That’s not what I’m saying-”
“Goodnight.” Cal turned to the hallway, his hands digging into the pockets of his pajama pants as he did. He rolled the recorder over in his hand, flipping the switch to the ‘off’ position. He sighed heavily before he opened the door to his shared room
Left behind, eyes trailing after the boy, Sage felt his lips fall into a scowl. How dare he. Did he not understand what Sage had given up for him? For them? For this Family?! And for him to imply that he did something immoral to get what he wanted?
,,,He was right, but that wasn’t the point. He shouldn’t have suspected anything to begin with. Sage’s ear flickered as he licked at his gums. Calcifer was digging into things he shouldn’t be. And that was dangerous. Didn’t he see that? Did he not see that everything Sage was doing was for them?
Slapping on a grin, he turned to Sky and Twilight. They watched him carefully. “You guys should head to bed too. It’s been a night.”
They exchanged a look. Twilight took the initiative. “What about ya’?”
Sage waved him off, “I’ll be right there. I’m just gonna go check in on Wars. Maybe check in with Wind. Won’t be too long. Don’t worry about me.”
“.... don’t - I shouldn’t - I … I didn’t want to.”
“Well then little interloper, how are you holding up.”
Wars’ already quiet speaking silenced as he made his presence known next to him, the traumatised mumbles turning to sheer fear at the instigator standing - no -  sitting by him. Sage’s eyes giving away how he truly feels about the whole situation, a small amount of apprehension but at the same time there was also some sick and twisted pride in his eyes. Pride at seeing the captain so broken before him.
“Do you think you’ll crack anytime soon now captain? Or have I solidified your resolve enough to prevent anything that you could regret?”
“Take your time, there’s not too much of a rush to answer.”
Warriors didn’t look up from the bed, only listening to his words. Was he going to crack? What kind of question was that?! “I-” He fell short on words again, his breathing breaking back into short sobs.
“Oh, come on, none of that now.” Sage patted his back in a hardy manner, causing Wars to lean forward with every hit.
He tried to stuffle in his crying, daring to look up at Sage who was looking across the room. “You didn’t tell Legend already, did you?”
“No! No-I would-”
“Good boy.” He patted his back again, looking over to him. “Now, if you’re alright, and gonna keep your mouth shut, I’m going to bed.” He stood from the bed, using Wars’ shoulder for support as he did so. Once he reached the door, he turned back to him. “Sleep well, don’t let the nightmares in.” He closed the door behind him.
That was problem one taken care of, now all that was left was the other one. Turning on his heel, he made his way to Cal’s room, a fire of pure fury igniting in his gut. He’d get to the bottom of this. If it was the last thing he did.
<><><><>
Cal was pacing back and forth in front of his bed, the black screen of his switch staring up at him from where it laid on his bed. This was bad. So very bad. Sage was onto him. Sage was onto him and now it was just a matter of time before he was hunted down and pinned to the wall, having answers demanded from him left and right. If he was lucky, it would just be Sage. Twilight and Sky would be sent off to bed to minimise the damage.
So it would just be Sage. Him and Sage. Alone. It would be fine.
The door behind him slammed open and Cal whipped around, fingers twitching towards his bedside drawer. However, the blond he was expecting was not the one standing there. Wild was watching him carefully, a brow raised and pulling at his scars. “...Hey there, buddy…” He muttered, waving slowly.
“HI- Hey….” Cal shook his head, resting his hands by his side once more. “Hello, Wild.”
“...You doing…okay? You really crossed a line back there.” Wild prodded, eyes watching the other’s figure before falling to the bed. “What’s that?”
“Don’t worry about it Atlas, it’s one of my roommates' things at uni. They just asked me to look after it.”
“Come onnnnn Cal, we share everything - We’re twins remember, we don’t do things alone.”
Cal’s face looked purely regretful and upset for a split second, knowing that they aren’t related - not in that way, more in the same person way. And that was all it took for Wild - for his brother to know that there is something heavy weighing on his mind. Something he needed to press for the details on.
“Whatever it is, it’s making you feel bad. Couldn’t you just give it back to them?”
“Not for a while. Till I get back to uni at the earliest.”
“Why not just hide it then, so then you don't have to worry about it? Or you know… tell me what it is to get it off of your mind??”
“No, it’s something I need to think on myself more.”
“Caaaalllllll-”
“I said no, Atlas.” Wild huffed, making his way to his own bed and sitting on it.
“You never share anything with me. You think you’re so much better than me since you went off to uni.”
“Wild-”
“It’s true! You can’t say it’s not!”
“It’s not true! I think you’re great!” Cal turned and faced his brother, throwing his arms open wide as he did.
“Oh, shut up. You know it’s the truth! I’m a no good wash up! That’s why Sky is only paying for your college and not mine. That’s why they still see me as a kid and not you. I’m older than you! Even if only by a few minutes but still!”
“Atlas, can you listen to me, pleas-”
“NO! I won’t listen to you! I’m tired of always listening to you!” WIld stood, pacing the room.
“Wild!”
His head shot over at his other name, “Don’t you dare call me that.”
“You need to listen to me and listen to me closely.”
“I already told you! I’m-”
“Wild- Atlas. This is important.”
“Oh, so it’s only important when it comes to things about you, huh? Because perfect Calcifer can do no wrong. Only fuck-up Atlas, right?” Wild shook his head, giving Cal the chance to close in, clamping his hands around the other’s arms.
“Listen.” He began, swallowing harshly. His eyes went from the switch to Wild. This wasn’t Wind, so he had a shot. Wind believed everything Sage told him, no qualms about it. But Wild? Wild wasn’t tethered to the same degree Wind was. Cal could find an ally in his Twin. “This…This world? It…It’s not ours.”
Wild scoffed, in his face like a heathen, trying to shrug off the hands. “Your crazy- Can you get your hands off’a me? Jeez, what have they been feeding you at Uni?”
“What have they been feeding you here is the real question.” Cal tightened his grip, a crazed look in his eye. “Atlas, I need you to listen very carefully-”
“We. Are. Not. From. Earth.”
“The thing you were asking me about, I’ll show you it, I’ll answer any questions you have. Just listen to me very carefully and you cannot. I repeat CANNOT tell Sage, or ANYONE what I’m going to tell you. Understood?”
Sheer aggression thinly veiled within Cal’s voice gave Wild the impression that his brother was being deathly serious, that despite his own feelings this was more important than him. That this trust wasn’t something to be toyed with, that if it was broken it would be impossible to repair.
“...okay.”
Breathing a sigh of relief cal, after checking the door was shut and unable to be opened took his switch and powered it on, briefly creating an account with a profile picture sharing his brothers face. Opening a game with it, so that he could have the full experience.
“I know ‘dad’ said games were bad, but just - just play it. Then tell me what you can remember.”
Handing the switch over to wild with a more pleading look now he got his first look at the game opened.
“Breath of the wild? What’s so important about it?”
“Please, just play it for a while before you ask questions. I am sure they will all be answered.”
Wild blew hair out of his face, tucking it behind his ear and looking back down at the game in his hands. “How do I play?”
“It’ll tell you. Just read what it says. Use that stick to move.” Cal pointed out the joy stick, showing him how it worked.
Wild fell into silence watching the beginning cut scene. Cal’s eyes went between the screen and Wild’s, watching, waiting, for something. He went through the basic tutorial easily enough, claiming the Sheikah slate for his own and climbing out of the shrine. Conventaly missing the chests of clothes on his way. The doors opened, Link shielding his eyes from the bright sun as he stepped outside and onto the grass. Once he reached the edge of the cliff, Wild’s eyes went wide.
“This is… really pretty…” He muttered, eyes glancing about the screen. Cal took a few jagged breaths.
“That- That’s it? That’s all you have to say?”
“...should there be more?”
“...Yes?!” Cal was gonna commit a crime. “There should be so much more- I just- We don’t have time for this. Give me that.” While he demanded the switch back, he really just took it, exiting out to the menu once more. The profiles were switched over quickly as Cal reopened the game. This time, instead of the character stumbling out of a weird cave, Link was standing in front of some sort of house. It was beige and stone, with a sign in front. Cal moved the character forward for a second before opening the inventory and switching screens, clicking on some sort of block. The screen faded to black and it was handed back to Wild, who watched with wide eyes. The colors on screen flashed across his face, brown then an assortment of reds and blues. Rapid beeping and hurried footsteps rang out and Wild’s eyes widened, jaw hanging open.
Cal swallowed.
The doorknob to their room shook for a second. Then a knock. “Boys?”
Cal choked on his spit. Wild was still watching the memory playback, eyes now gleaming with the shine of unshed pearls, unresponsive to anything else around him. The knock cam back harder, faster, more desperate. Everything in Cal’s body was screaming at him. He knows, he knows, he knows, he knows, he knows, he knows- “Yeah, dad?”
Cal’s voice quivered.
“Can we talk?”
“I-If you give us a minu-ute! I’m changing! I spilt something onto my shirt and it spread and I’m soaked so I’m - I’ll just be a few minutes!”
Please, oh please, just let him believe it. Just get enough time to get changed and rip the switch away from wild, to let him get the hint he needs to lie. It should be easy, it’ll be fine, everything will be fine, he’s the better one.
And the knocking paused, intime with Cal’s own heart.
“Okay. I’ll give you a few minutes to change - if you’re not in the main room, both of you, in ten minutes I’m coming into your room.”
Ten minutes. Ten minutes is perfect, he can change, he can come up with a somewhat convincing lie to get out of this, hide the switch and get a video alibi on his phone to claim why wild is so upset.
He can do this.
He can - Wild is crying. He’s full on crying.
what , no - no he wasn’t supposed to get this upset, he was - he just wanted him to understand.
He watched the screen closely as he pulled his shirt over his head, digging another one out of a drawer. The screen faded to fuzz and black as he pulled it from Wild’s hands, new shirt going over his head. He knelt down, getting in his face. “What did you see?”
Wild shook his head, tears and sobs falling from him faster. “I- I”
“Wild, I need you to focus and tell me what you saw.”
“I- I saw me. It- I-” His blurry eyes met Cal’s, “I died, Cal. Another broken cry came from him, shaking his whole body.
Cal pulled him into his chest. “I know. I know it’s hard. But I really, really need you to focus and listen to me right now.” Wild nodded, tears wetting Cal’s new shirt. “Okay, good. Sage isn’t- he’s… up to something.”
“What- what do you mean?”
“I don’t… I don’t know for sure. But something is happening. And he tried to come in here while you were snapped out of it. We have to go talk to him in,” He checked the clock, “Six and a half minutes. So we need to put together out stories.”
“I can’t- I don’t want to lie.”
“Then don’t. Say you were taking a nap just now and I woke you up to come out. It’s not a total lie, is it?”
No. He supposed it wasn’t. That still didn’t make it right. Wild’s face scrunched up, cheeks made puffy by his most recent fit. Sage? As the bad guy? It just…didn’t commute. Right now, honestly, he just wanted to man to make it right. Sage has a way of just making things right. But Cal said they couldn’t tell him. “What do we do?”
Cal swallowed. “...Our best, I guess.”
Extracting himself, he quickly looked around the room. He needed an alibi. And he needed it fast. His eyes landed on a Capri-sun that Wind must’ve left in their room last time he was in there. With a curse under his breath, he quickly grabbed it, retrieving his previously discarded shirt before sacrificing the article of clothing (He sent a silent apology to whoever does the godforsaken amount of laundry in this hell house.). The juice quickly spread, drenching the shirt and making Cal wince. He liked that shirt.
“Okay, the alibi is set in stone. If Sage asks, you were napping, I spilled juice on my shirt, I woke you up because he wanted to talk. Sounds good?”
Wild gaped for a second before swallowing around his dry tongue, shaking his head. “Yeah, yeah. Sounds good. I just-” He rubbed his cheeks and eyes, hoping to lessen the redness around them. “Yeah.”
“If he asks about your red eyes, you smoked pot.”
“Cal, no I did not. I had a bad dream.”
“...Better idea.”
“Of course, it's a better idea, why was pot the first thing you thought of? Sage would kill you - HE’D KILL ME!”
“I don’t know, red eye’s smoking - checks out.”
“Have you smoked??? Holy shit Cal that’s so illegal!?”
Silence was the only response to that, the wordless admission that he was right. That his ‘perfect’ younger brother wasn’t really that perfect. But this isn’t really what he should be focusing on at the moment, there are more vital things to worry about, for instance the - shit! Two minutes!?
“Right Wild, are you ready now. We only have one shot at this.”
“I am, given that you don’t go with the pot plan.”
“Shut up.”
“I’m going to tell Sky you smoke.” With a side eye to rival his ‘father’s’ Cal turned to his older brother with a smug smile, a truly shit eating grin. And with only one minute left till they face death.
“What makes you think he hasn’t smoked with me before?”
With that he threw open the door, making sure that it was loud enough to be heard from the living room. “Come on sleepy head.” He said out to Wild, nodding his head to the hallway.
Wild nodded back, following him out into the hall, closing the door tight behind him. “Why’d you wake me up?” He played along, his voice wavering a bit.
“I told you, dad wanted to talk to us.”
“Fine, fine.” They made their way into the living room, only to find Sage sitting on the couch. The only light in the room a lamp next to him.
“Nine and a half minutes.” Sage said, not looking over to the boys. “Thirty more seconds and I would have had to come on in myself.” He laughed a bit, pushing something up under the couch with his foot. “I’m glad you made it on time.”
“Me too. What is it that you wanted to talk about?” Cal asked, taking a seat on the edge of a chair across from him. Wild stayed standing next to him, jittering slightly.
Ur turn loser cinder I’m not a loser >:( Ur the loser neither of you are losers <3 (She’s talking to me, not you bailey) I hate that we cant get divorced bc then the whole world would then collapse.
“Why don’t you take a seat, Atlas? I’m sure you’re still tired.” Sage let a smile widen on his features, crossing one leg over another before leaning back. “It’s been a long night.”
“You’re telling me.” Wild mumbled, quickly finding his own seat. He picked at the skin on his hand, tracing the scars there. His breath hitched in his throat. He looked up from his hand. Don’t think about your death. Don’t think about your death. Sage can probably read thoughts.
“About earlier,” Sage rolled his shoulders. “...What’s going on with you two today? Normally, you're a little more…patient.”
One of Cal’s feet knocked against Wild’s. Sage’s eyes followed the movement. “Something you wanna tell me?”
Cal swallowed. “Is there?”
“You tell me.” Sage always had a way of looking intimidating. With the low light reflecting off his cheeks and the low hum of the lit fireplace in front of them, it seemed like they were well and truly in purgatory. Or some convoluted version of hell. Whichever was worse really. Moreso when he leaned his elbows on his knees.
“...No.”
Sage’s eyes narrowed further.
“Wanna try again?”
“Atlas had a nightmare and I had to wake him, I didn’t want to mention it because I know he gets embarrassed by them. I’m sorry bro…”
“Oh so now you rat that out. I trusted you.”
Sage’s eyes narrowed even further, both suspecting their lies as being too - too there’s not a good word for it but they seem too good to be true but why bring their family into question. Perhaps now would be a good time to lessen their privacy, losing door privileges might be a good start for now, see if that makes anything better, stops them from hiding things in their room.
“I’ll let this off for now. Seeing as you’re so focused on it and you don’t seem to be budging anytime soon.”
“Let this be a warning to you both. Neither of you will get away with something like this again. Got it?” As the twins replied in unison before getting up to go to their rooms with wild leaving as quickly as he could without drawing any attention to himself.
“Not you Calcifer. I’d like you to stay a minute more”
Why does it feel like his throat is closing in on itself, like it’s hard to breathe…
… Is his eyesight getting darker?
“Okay…” Cal sat back down in his seat, wavering slightly when he hit the cushion. Shit, what is happening?
“Are you ready to tell me what is going on?” Sage’s voice was dripping in venom as he spoke.
“Nothing is going on.”
“If you’re going to lie don’t look so sick while doing it.”
Cal’s blinked away blurry vision, willing himself to just breathe. “I’m not lying.”
Sage’s eyes bore into him, watching his every move, every blink, every breath of air he took into his lungs. Sage shook his head, looking down. “I can see I’m not getting anything out of you. All I have to say is that you need to watch yourself.”
Cal nodded, swaying as he stood and turned back to the hallway. “Oh, and Calcifer?” Cal looked back over his shoulder, waiting for the other shoe to drop. “You should really make sure you don’t drag your brother into this. He’s a good kid.” The door slammed to their room once he was inside. As soon as he took a few steps in, his vision went black as Wild called his name.

buckle up, because shit's gonna be long af, as ferret!reader has been plaguing my mind even in classes, but also the writing is inconsistent because I've wrote both yesterday before going to sleep and today in my classes break.
also, didn't elaborate much on some of legend's one, but i totally could come up with at least three whole fics about it.
now this fungi 🍄 will go on with the content.
general, for the boys i couldn't elaborate much,
★ climbing the boys when shifted, if they wear various layers, like time and sky, getting under one of them to make the boys life even harder.
★ time especially would have a harder time getting you out of his armor, because of how clunky it is.
★ carrying minish four! maybe even playing chase and fighting not to drool all over him.
★ talking about minish, reader sharing their food with them, not even noticing what they did until wild asks where reader put all the snacks he gave them.
★ randomly biting the boys when feeling playful, especially wild, wind and hyrule who are more prone to take them on adventures
★ which takes me to: biting Time! he's there all serious planning the chain next moves and reader just want him to get more laid back for once... basically reader's body is moving before they can think.
★ normal ferrets hoard small items... reader as human is not small so.... yeah, try not to leave the things out of the bag for too long. yes captain, I'm looking at you and your long and vibrant scarf.
★ also... worsening eyesight or focus. reader just walking in the trails with the chain before they start wandering off to the sides, face plant into a tree or trip on something.
★ i believe time saw his whole life passing by his eyes when you almost ran into a cliff, after that he made sure you always walked between him and someone as trustworthy as himself, probably twi or warriors.
★ four and wind are not safe from the ocasional nip, as they are the smallest of the group and a worth hunt, per se. (also bunny legend!)
★ instant running whenever one of the boys go to them a little too fast, be it from fear or playfulness.
★ starting to like narrow places, reader just shoving themselves in any tree hole they find and chain having to find them.
★ ferrets are know to sleep at least 14 hours a day, and while i think that reader wouldn't get to that point because of the constant moving, any place for a nap, is a palce for a nap.
★  especially when it involves sky and his perfectly cuddly body. him and the cat experience, where he can't move as you're sleeping above him.
★ time just having exasperated mother energy whenever reader disappears, only to find them tucked away with one of the boys.
★ nightmares fuel for the ones who stand at night watch, since reader may start sleep talking or downright sit up, look at everyone and then get back to sleep.
★ warriors wondering from where the fuck all the fur clinging onto his clothes come from, and reader just brushing it off as some wild animal who walked into the camp.
puppy boy, twi,
★ twilight angry at reader for touching his necklace, until... bonding time, aka, "teaching" reader to hunt (is just the two fooling around and running after each other, really).
★ reader trying to wrestle twi, wolfie's form or not.
★ and failing miserably.
★ understanding one another when the instincts kick in a little too hard and they have to desperately hide it.
★ covering for one another at those times, and just using each other to get rid of it altogether, such as the bitings, hoarding, howling/dooking and all.
★ not noticing how the plan backfires and habits they had only when shifted starts to bleed through, and now everyone look at them suspiciously.
★ best boy carrying reader whenever they're in the dead asleep state, by shifting them and either carrying reader on his back as wolfie or getting reader in his fur coat.
★ twi acting like a worried mom whenever reader is gone for too long after shifting and he doesn't know what excuse to use with hyrule anymore.
★ but forgetting all about it when reader dooks at him kinda understanding how the others feel about wolfie.
★ just... grooming each other.
rulie, the pretty fairy boy,
★ the ferrets habits kicking reader harder by the day, and none of them having a clue about what to do, since they don't even know anything about the animal in question;
★ until in one of their calmer days reader just say they'll go for a nap since they're feeling a little tired, brushing off hyrule when he offers to check 'em up for any ailments;
★ nothing to worry, really, ur there all pretty and peachy sleeping soundly and safe... until you're not;
★ while hyrule goes to check up on you for dinner, you just... don't move, he taps you lightly, shakes you, try talking to you and even downright scream at you (which he would never do, if not for the awful circumstances);
★ nothing seems to work, and you're just there, limp and dead to the world (in their eyes at least), thus, chaos ensues;
★ hyrule's sobbing over your body (?), almost snarling at anyone who comes a little to close, he's already tried everything in his power to try to wake you up, even resorting to wild's cooking, wolfie's howling in the back as he's not allowed to approach, legend cursing under his breath about how it was a good riddance (excuse me, sir???), anyways, you get it;
★ and in the middle of all that mess, you just wake up, foggy mind trying to take in the messy vision before you and very much rid you of the bruising grip the traveller had you in, muttering something along the lines of "what's happening?", and they all just... stop;
★ turns out, in his panic attack hyrule forgot to even check if you were breathing;
★ you could feel that after that day, rulie's watchful gaze on you turned even stricter, not letting you get away from him for more than a 5 meters radius and not letting you touch anything he didn't recognize;
★ also... it's only after this incident that twi would be very serious about you reporting to him about any behaviour change you had after the first time you shifted;
★ and last one! reader getting overprotective about hyrule, fighting the urge to hiss at anyone who dared to badmouth the traveller, going as far as to get him away from the group as a whole to just nuzzle to him and "have him to yourself", and when not, just sleeping on his clothes and belongings like some sort of nest.
vet, our trash raccoon man,
★ if we're talking about player au where he's not fond of reader, i have some (many) sad news to him.
★ reader having to physically stop themselves from gripping at him and shaking him prove they are safe and trustworthy.
★ reader stealing many of legend items, especially the shiny ones. and forgetting about where they hid it right after.
★ if legend happened to be one of player!reader comfort characters, him just waking up to find reader nestled into him. panic.
★ legend trash talking reader, until they come up behind him and bite his nape, hard. he's not having any of that shit and is immediately throwing hands (as would i).
★ reader immediately running to twi when they see legend as a bunny, cue devious laugh.
★ shifted reader immediately running after bunny!legend, since he wouldn't know about your shifting yet.
★ him freaking out until he notices that you're not doing anything, and even letting him run away, or when you do get him, you just hold him without biting hard.
★ reader just dooking at legend while having him in your mouth, and he just.... lemme out bitch, no way i'm gonna die so pathetically.
★ i do think he'd notice that you're not a wild animal, but idk if he would notice that is you.
★ but when he does... oh boy, you better run, he's out for your head.
and that's all! also, search for ferrets dooking sounds if you never saw it, is the cutest thing ever! they even do a sort of sound like a breathy laugh or giggle when happy.
FUNGI I LOVED EVERY LAST BIT OF THIS, THIS WAS AMAZING!!!! OH AND PLAYER DOOKING ALL THE TIME IS SO CUTE I LOVE IT

This idea really just popped up in my mind so I’m just gonna share it with ya ALSO this about Time…maybe..
“OLD MAN!” Times eyes shot open to see who calling him while trying to fend off monsters.
There’s a fight going on. It was so horrible that Wild and Sky had to evacuate. Hyrule also had to leave the battle due to him trying to help Sky and Wild get out of there and healing them.
Without the aid of those three Warriors, Legend, and Four had to evacuate too.
So it was only Time, Wind, and Twilight left on a the battlefield and they just couldn’t run away from it cause the monsters were near a town.
“Get…off..OF ME!” Time kicked the lizalfos off of him and jumped up, spun around, and slashed the monsters.
“Old man! We have to go! Wind is injured we can’t stay here no longer!” Twi ran over to Time with wind in his arms with a bloody head.
“Alright I’ll protect you!” Time said with quickness as Twilight ran along with Time behind him but then..
“ARGH!” Time was hit in the head the force was heavy causing him to fall to the ground and for Twi to turn around and shout his name.
“GO! Go with wind I’ll try to fight this beast!” Time screamed as loud as he could. Twi nodded his head and said “I’ll get backup as soon as I can just hold on for a little longer!” With that Twi ran off to the path.
Time looked up to see what hit him and this hit him..very..very hard.
It was dark link staring down at him. Standing over him. With a sword to Times neck.
“What the hell..you..why are you..how…” Time said in fear staring into Dark link’s eyes and just like that he passed out..and woke up in a threatening but calm place. There was a dark pond with blood stained water the grass looked dead and the moon was also in a blood stained color, and the grayish sky.
And..a dead tree with Dark link sitting by it staring right at Time. It cause Time to panic and grab his..wait where is it? It’s not there! Where is his armor?! With speed Time ran to the pond and look at his reflection..he didn’t have his tattoos..he was young..again he was 17..again..
“No..No no no no..” Time backed away from the pond. He was almost about to cry but then he spoke.
“.are.you.alright..?”
Time spun around and faced Dark link. His eyes were filled with rage and hate.
“YOU!” Time gritted his teeth “WHY AM I HERE WHY DONT I HAVE WEAPONS WHY..why..why am I like this again..?” Time calmed barely and was trying to bite back the anger and keep calm even though he was here.
“Cause.I.want.you.here.I.want.to.talk.to.you.” He said. “I.want.to.talk.to.you.in.the.state.where.I.hurt.you.” He said and smiled a very crooked smile.
“So.please.”
Time walked over to the and sat down with him but tried to keep himself away from him as far hylia could take him and glared at him.
“What do you want from me..” He tore his stare away from him.
“AHEM” Dark link cleared his throat. “Sorry if my voice was like that I just needed to clear it” as he smirked.
“Uh huh.”
“..Sorry.”
“Sorry? SORRY? For WHAT!” Time gritted his teeth.
“For hurting you all those timelines ago…I..didn’t want to fight you..” Dark link said in the most apologetic tone he could do and I promise you. It did not sound believable.
“Oh.” Time looked down and didn’t even know what to say.
“You know..I wasn’t always like this I wasn’t always “Dark link”…” Dink said with sadness.
“What?” Time looked up and saw that dark link..was about to cry? “I was a child maybe around 10 years old? War started and everything..I guess and my name? I can’t even remember my real name. But I can remember that Ganondorf attacked my village..found me used his powers on me his malice and dark power took control over my body..my mind…my everything.” He looked up at the sky.
“…..”
“He turned me into this form took control over my mind and I was stuck in that hell hole until you came and I was forced to fight you.”
“..I”
“I was such a happy child living my best life but now I’m filled with malice and I have to look like you everyday from now on.” He looked down at that grass.
“I’m truly sorry I-didn’t know that Ganondorf was that much of a monster.” Time scooted himself toward him. And put a hand on his shoulder. With that he passed out again.
He shot up in a..bed.
“Wha..” Time looked around the room. he put his head down. He sighed and began to cry in silence.
How could that happen to him.
Since no one knows Dark links origin I thought to make one up! And I like to call this story “Quick Talk.” Cause it was a very quick talk. Maybe dark link wasn’t always “Dark link”. hoping you loved this XD
Ooooooooo....
I think can be an entire fic on its own.
It's a good idea and I'd like to hear more of this mystery person. The Link who's not a Link. And I like what you did with Dark Link's dialogue. I thought that it would have translated into a strange way of speaking but that was your intention!
I think this has a lot of potential to expand upon. Either expanding on the concept you've already written or in a general story format.
Thank you for sending it in!

The Floor is Lava
Toot toot, the angst is back!
This bit is not inspired by an ask!
Crazy, right?
Enjoy Twilight and Warriors being amazing, concerned older brothers!
Twilight can’t sleep.
His mind spins, images and whispers flying about in his minds as he imagines the vet, downstairs, alone.
“Do you actually want to die? You keep saying you do, but-” Midnight blue sparkles with starlight tears. “Do you really want to die?”
“...yes.” Legend’s voice is small and nearly impossible to hear, but Twilight catches it all the same.
He turns over onto his side, careful not to disturb Wild’s sleeping form beside him, but his mind still twists and dances with the sight of Legend’s screaming form disappearing beneath waves of molten orange.
He can’t lose the vet, not again, but whose to say that Legend is still willing to stick around? He heard the strangled sobs of the vet when life had been poured back into him.
“-saw her.” Legend’s eyes glisten softly in the faded light of their campfire, staring up at the stars with no recognition of the voices that surge around him. “Sh’ said,” Tears glisten in the corners of violet hues. “I ‘ve to stay.”
Twilight doesn’t know who ‘she’ is, but he’s not stupid either. There’s no place Legend wants to go, no life or energy in the vet’s eyes, no passion for any place. With that in mind, Twilight knows that ‘stay’ means stay alive, and if the mere thought is enough to force the emotionless veteran to cry, what are the chances that Legend won’t try something tonight?
He’s on his feet in a minute, panic running through his veins as midnight blue meets with royal, Warriors himself halfway through rsing from the bed he shares with Wind.
“You alright, Rancher?”
“’m worried.”
“Legend?”
“Yeah.”
“Same.” Warriors’ gaze is shattered as he looks towards the door. “I’ve seen soldiers like him before, no will to live and no reason to do so.” The expression on Warriors’ face is heartbreaking, and were the captain not so skilled at keeping his own emotions in check, Twi knows that the captain would be crying softly. “They- they’ve made it through battle after battle, but even if they aren’t touched by the blade, we’ll find them cold in the mornings.” Warriors sighs, deep and broken. “I don’t want that for my brother.”
“Let’s check on him.” Twilight murmurs, and Warriors nods, grabbing his scarf and sliding softly down the center of the room towards the door.
They pad down the stairs as softly as possible, worry churning in their guts and Warriors’ hand tight as it clutches Twilight’s shoulder, but when they reach the landing to look down into the living room, they find that all they can see is Legend seated on the couch, eyes glassy as he gazes into the fire. There a quilt thrown over the vet’s shoulders, and trembling fingers fumble with one of his rings, sliding it up and down gnarled knuckles as something soft and sickly-sweet dances through the air, a soft melody that makes tears prick at their eyes as Legend slumps in place.
There’s no response from the youth as the two older boys pad softly into the room, but when they hesitate at the edge of his vision, he does scoff lightly under his breath. “I don’t bite. Sit down already.”
Like scolded children, the two of them dart forwards, each taking his place on either side of the vet, joining him in staring into the fire for a brief moment.
Legend shivers slightly, drawing his quilt closer with halting breaths, and Wars and Twi exchange a look over the top of his head.
“What’s eating at you?”
Two sets of blue eyes dart downwards, Legend still faces forwards, gaze dark and soul-less as he gazes into the rippling flames. Twilight can’t help but think that there should be some fear in those eyes, staring as they do into flaming orange, so similar to the hot lava that nearly tore him from their grasp forever.
“What?”
“The both of you came tip-toeing down here like nervous cats.” Legend deadpans. “Somethings eating you, and neither of you want to wake the others. You were hoping to came down here but you weren’t expecting me to be awake.” Wilted violet stares up at them, empty and darkened by the heavy bags beneath. “Or am I wrong and you wanted to snitch something out of Ma- Miss Malon’s cookie jar?”
Royal blue stares down at the vet as Wars settles one hand on Legend’s arm. “Ledge, can we talk?”
Pink brows shoot up. “About?”
“The other night,” Twilight rumbles. “When the whisper scared everyone awake,” The vet stiffens. “You said- You-” Something inside of him screams, there’s tears in his heart and he wants nothing more than to just stop talking and wrap Legend in his arms and cry. “You know we love you, Legend, right? That everyone of us, Time, Wind, Wild, Sky, all of us, would rather die than lose you, right?”
The vet shifts in his place, gaze dropping to where the rancher’s hands have captured his own.
“We understand you’ve seen a lot of shit.” Warriors rumbles softly, and Twilight wonders if the man realizes that he’s buried his hand in Legend’s hair. “Stuff that most of us could never hope to understand, that we wouldn’t want to, but you- Legend, there-” The captain stumbles over his words.
“Life sucks.” Twilight murmurs for him. “An’ you haven’t been treated fairly.”
The captain nods, thankful. “But even so there are still good things in the world. And even if your Hyrule is as messed up and awful as the Travelers, or if there is no one waiting behind for you to come back, then,” Warriors fingers gently guide Legend’s face to meet his own, eyes deep and restless as the sea as they meet dead shadows. “We want you to know that even if the entire world is ending, you have us. We’re your brothers and-” the captain’s voice catches as he strokes the vet’s sunken cheek. “And we really love you, Legend. And losing you? We-” Tears prick in the gazes of both of the older boys, and behind heavy shadows, something flickers in a broken stare.
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and neither the hero of Twilight or the Hero of Warriors has ever seen one so shattered. Legend’s gaze reveals something so broken and shattered that the two are helpless to do anything but wrap their arms around him cautiously, willing to release if the vet asks, but warm and comforting for themselves and the others if it is welcomed.
The vet’s shoulders tremble.
A sob breaks the silence of the night as crystal tears pour down sunken cheeks.

I was going to wait to hit you with more quotes until the next time you ask for quotes but this one's a bit too funny to resist sending it any link Wait. Don't leave me alone with these two! Just keep an eye on them for now. I'll be back
Warnings: Panic attacks, claustrophobia,
Note: long one, I'll add a "keep reading" later. Enjoy!
-o-o-o-o-
"Yup, we're separated," Twilight sighs and Sky can feel his stomach drop. Oh dear, he really doesn't like caves. He much prefers the sky, the openness and endlessness is so comforting and relaxing, in most times of trial all he must do is look up and instantly his brain will calm.
But he can't do that right now. If he looks up he will be met with the sight of rock, rock and more rock that goes for who knows how long onward, creating an impenatrable barrier between him and the outside world. Between him and the sky.
He can feel his chest ache with worry. He isn't afraid, far from it exactly, just a tad bit... uncomfortable. He's almost tempted to turn towards Wild, the third member of their cave trapped group, the fourth being Hyrule, and ask for his Sheikah Slate so he can look through those strange magic paintings he has and search for one that shows the endless expanse of blue that wraps around the ground like a warm, inviting embrace.
But he won't do that either. Twilight doesn't look worried, more annoyed than anything, and Wild and Hyrule actually look horribly excited to he trapped on the wrong side of a cave in. Excited to go deeper for it is the only way they can go, excited to see if they can find something hidden or undiscovered. Sky would much rather stay by the cave in and wait for the others to dig them out, but that idea seams to not be on even Twilight's mind, for he is already pulling out a lantern and lifting it with a this-may-as-well-happen expression on his face.
Sky knows each of these men have been through this before. Doors slamming behind their back, barriers appearing and trapping them so the only direction to go would be deeper into the unknown. Sky himself has had these thing happen, and he knows it's normally a sign that something must be done. But for now, he can't help but fear that this isn't a trap, it isn't a locked door, it isn't a blockade that will disappear after they fight some kind of giant chu chu or something of the sort. He can't help but fear it's just a normal cave in, and he's in a group of people who have no problems with going deeper into unimaginable danger.
Oh Hylia, why were they even going into the cave in the first place? His mind is so muddled and worried that Twilight is beginning to lead the way down further that he can't seem to remember. Some sort of monster terrorizing someone who lived in the cave? A chest that holds some sort of key that they need? Perhaps some sacred puddle of water Four needs to water a plant with?
Oh dear. This isn't good.
Not good at all.
"Let's go further, see if there's a way out on the other side of the cave," Twilight says; which happen to he the worst possible words Sky had wanted to hear. Still, he finds himself reluctantly following, his heart pounding in his throat, almost stumbling desperately to stay near the light Twilight holds.
He's not afraid. He's truly not afraid. Just fearful. There's a difference.
He looks up at the cave ceiling and quickly snaps his neck down, cursing his habit. There's no sky. No point in trying. There's no reason to look up if he knows what he's searching for isn't there.
"I wonder what's down here," Hyrule says, walking a little ahead of Twilight with an impossible spring to his step, as if he'd much rather explore the cave with no light like the crazy person he is.
"A way out, hopefully," Sky says, and it's nothing close to a squeak but he's sure if he gives it time it will eventually turn into one.
"Nah, I bet it's some sort of evil cave dwelling Moblin," Wild says, a grin in his voice.
"No way, a Moblin?" Hyrule scoffs.
"Yes, a golden one. Big, mean, and strong."
"Moblin's aren't that bad," Hyrule replies, "I bet it's actually a Lynel."
"Lynels' don't live in caves," Wild argues back.
"They totally do. And I bet it's a whole herd of them."
"Lynels' don't live in herds!"
"Have you met a Lynel?!"
Sky hasn't met a Lynel. And quite honestly he'd like not to. He's heard Legend talk about them before, giant beasts that are a mix of a great cat and a strong horse. Creatures with fangs and swords and power, unimaginably tough skin, making it almost impossible for a normal sword to do a single lick of damage.
His hand trails over his shoulder where the Master Sword lay, finding comfort in her presence. Unfortunately, Twilight notices the movement and lifts an eyebrow. Sky gives a nervous smile and drops his hands to his side.
Don't think about it.
"What if it's a dragon?" Hyrule continues. "A three headed one. I've had to fight one of those before."
"Dragon's aren't evil," Wild says back with an almost offended tone.
"Mine were. Nasty things that spewed fire everywhere."
Just ignore them Sky. Ignore them.
"What about you, ranch hand? Have you ever fought a dragon?" Hyrule asks, turning his head towards the lantern holder of the group.
Twilight shook his head. "Once. He wasn't that bad though. More bark than bite."
"Chosen?"
Sky swallows. "Ah, no. They were... friendly."
"We're tied," Wild says, smirking.
"No we just have to ask the others later. I'm sure they've all fought horrible monsters and you and the chosen hero are the only ones who have weird ones."
Oh Sky truly hopes the get to ask the others soon.
They continue down more into the cave and Wild and Hyrule continue to talk about what they could be heading towards and Sky loathes Twilight for having such a relaxed, uninterested expression on his face. He's somehow worked himself to a point where he can completely tune out their antics but Sky is left to hang on every word, his chest growing tighter and tighter.
Eventually, and Sky doesn't know if he should be thankful or not, they end up in a dead end. Or what's close to it. Twilight stops with a hum and Hyrule bends down to inspect the bottom of the wall they've found themselves facing. The cave just... Ends. There's no other ways to turn, nothing to do but go back and forth between one end and another. Or so he thinks so until Wild calls out.
"There's a hole at the bottom!"
Panic clutches Sky's heart as Twilight bends down to inspect the hole Wild has found. There is, indeed, a hole—hardly big enough for a dog to fit through—located at the bottom of the dead end. He will not try and squeeze himself through there. He's aware he's not the skinniest in the group, and he certainly isn't the most agile or flexible, and if he crawls into that hole he knows he'll get stuck. He'll get stuck and he'll never see the sky again and that- he takes a deep breath and looks up for just a moment.
At this rate, he's not going to see sky ever again whether he crawls into tiny holes or not.
"I wonder where it goes," Hyrule says, excitement making his voice go a half octave higher. Hyrule is normally one of the reserved members of the group, but when stuffed into an unknown cave without a map or plan, his true colors truly shine.
He kneels down and Sky almost goes light headed with relief when Twilight stops Hyrule from shooting into the hole with a hand on his shoulder.
"Let me," he says, making Sky insanely more worried and confused because Twilight is bigger than Sky. Well, broader. If Sky is certain he will get stuck, Twilight getting stuck is like, written in some holy book somewhere. Foreseen by the goddessess.
"Twi..." Wild suddenly says, his voice oddly... reserved.
Twilight shakes his head. "It's about time more people found out. I'm pretty sure vet knows. You know, the old man knows, smithy knows. What's two more?"
"What are you talking about?" Hyrule asks.
Twilight shakes his head, worrying Sky just a little, and then he takes a deep breath like what he's about to say is going to be the last thing he ever says. "Listen, and don't freak out. I'm only going to say this once. I can turn into... Into a wolf. I'm Wolfie. I can crawl into the hole and find out where it goes safer than any of you. I can also... see if I can dig and make it wider for you all if there is something more on the other side."
Sky is... oddly not shocked. Just infinitely more worried that Twilight is still dead set on going into some small hole with a half formed plan.
"Woah!" Hyrule says, "I never guessed!"
Wild is just smiling, and Sky isn't for this at all.
"Or," he says, clearing his throat and feeling heat rush to his cheeks and ears when the others all turn to look at him, "or... We can just turn around and wait for the others to dig us out?"
Wild actually has the audacity to look visibly bored with the idea.
"Nah, I wanna see our rancher turn into a wolf," Hyrule says.
Twilight at least gives Sky a small, sorry smile and a shrug.
Oh dear. Oh dear.
"We're going to try this, Sky. Here-" Twilight hand's Sky his lantern, "I won't need it. You can hold the light."
"I don't like this," Sky tries to say, but Hyrule is practically shaking with excitement.
"I'm so excited," he says and Wild nudges his side with his elbow.
"Hush! He'll get embarrassed and he won't do it!"
Twilight glares at the two of them but still backs a step away from them all. Sky's stomach jumps to his throat when Twilight takes a deep breath.
"Wait!"
Twilight stops, and then gives an... almost annoyed look at Sky.
"Don't leave me alone with these two," Sky whispers.
Wild makes a squawk and Hyrule grins like he's ready to torment Sky. Twilight, thankfully, has the decency to look at the other two and study them. For a small, hopeful second, Sky almost thinks Twilight is going to stay with them, but then he shakes his head and Sky can feel his soul sink to his toes.
"Just keep an eye on them," he says, "I'll be back."
"No, no Tw-"
But it's too late. Sky is rendered speechless as Twilight's humanoid form suddenly... shifts. Morphs. It's a blink of an eye. There's no flash, no sound, nothing. Just one second Sky is about to plead his sanity with Twilight and the next he's looking down at a familiar wolf.
Huh. It all seems more real, shocking even, to actually see that happen.
Wolfie... Twilight gives Wild and Hyrule stern looks before he gives an almost apologetic look at Sky. He nods his muzzle, and then turns and crouches down and starts to wiggle in the hole. He's gone in just a few minutes, nothing but the sound of scratching claws and small dog-like pants to let then know Twilight still exists, but even those start to fade.
"Wow!" Hyrule suddenly yells and Sky nearly jumps a mile.
"I know right!" Wild yells back. Wild suddenly launches into a rant about hard it was to keep Twilight's secret and how glad he is that more people know, and Sky tries to listen. He tries to watch. He tries to... exist... but he truly can't feel a thing. His ears are ringing.
The darkness closing in. He can't hear Twilight anymore. His chest feels heavy.
He blinks and clutches the lantern closer towards his chest. The only evidence now of Twilight's company. Is he alright? He can't hear him anymore. He really, really can't. What if there was a ledge? And he fell? And he's stuck, trapped, forever, waiting for a rescue that won't come.
What if the others don't come, and the oil in the lantern runs dry, and the blackness, the shadows crawling around the cave walls close in, and the air becomes stale and they slowly freeze to their bones.
What if they're trapped. Trapped here, in darkness, never to see the sky again.
This shouldn't bother him. It truly shouldn't, but he's never liked tight, closed off spaces. Oh how much he'd rather be on the surface. Oh how much he'd rather be on Skyloft. Oh how much he'd rather be on the back of his dear friend—his other half—the red Loftwing.
He can feel his back hit something hard and his knees decide to feel very wobbly. He forces himself to take in a deep breath but a fog is washing over his mind and he's truly not sure if he actually breathed in or not.
He's not afraid. He's not. He's not he's not he's not. Worried. Fearful. Cautious. But not afraid. He's not.
He looks up, wanting to see the sky, and he finds no comfort in the rocks that gaze back at him.
His legs give out and the lantern falls.
What is wrong with him. What is wrong with him.
This has never happened before. No, never before.
He can't help but feel that this has never happened before because he used to be younger, used to always be sure that there was always a way out and always a sky waiting for him.
Right now, it feels like the whole world is the wet, cold, stone pressing into his back.
He's not afraid, he just can't tell if he's breathing. He's not afraid, his ears are just ringing. He's not afraid, his mind is just not working with him. He's not afraid, his chest just feels broken.
Then, suddenly, something grabs onto his hand and he gasps, blinking towards the face of none other than Wild, the lantern in his hands now instead of wherever it went when Sky lost grasp of it. Sky searches Wild's face, searching for anything to... ground him? Ground isn't the right word. He'd much rather be in the clouds, but then his eyes land on the deepest blue he's ever seen, or maybe he's so much black shadows recently that he forgot what blue looked like.
He stares at Wild's eyes, and he can see so much blue, and it's not the same as the sky but he knows Wild has seen the sky before, seen it many times before, and Wild hasn't worried once about never seeing it again.
"You okay?" A voice asks, and Sky recognizes it as Hyrule voice, but right now looking away from Wild's eyes is the last thing he wants to do.
He wants to say that yeah, he's fine, but the words don't reach his throat. The most he can do is croak out a pathetic no and immediately Wild is setting the lantern down onto the cave floor, bending down so he's sitting across from Sky. Warmth spreads on Sky's side and he instantly recognizes the warmth belonging to Hyrule who has just sat down next to him. Sky closes his eyes, facing the dark in his mind and forcing it away, replacing it with Wild's deep blue.
Blue. Sky. Air. Freedom.
He sucks in a breath, feeling his chest shutter once, twice, then still with his calming breathing. Once he can no longer feel his heart jumping, he opens his eyes and meets Wild's gaze.
"Better?"
Sky nods and Wild smiles.
"Here," Wild suddenly says, handing Sky his precious magic slate like he knew exactly what Sky needed. He helps Sky get to the magic paintings ("They're pictures, Sky") and then he settles himself on the other side of Sky.
Sky looks at the first "picture", one of the entire landscape of Wild's Hyrule from the top of what seems to be a very big mountain. You can see the castle, but it's very small in comparison to the horizon. Sky can feel Hyrule rest his head on Sky's shoulder as he flicks to the next picture, and he chuckles when it's a "picture" of Sky himself, resting against a tree and a steadily growing pile of sticks being made atop his head by the recognizable hand of Legend.
Wild and Hyrule chuckle too, and all of a sudden Sky is so grateful that he's been left with the two of them.
Time passes, and he almost forgets what they're doing, when all of a sudden there's scratching of claws and panting dog breaths and a snout appears through a small hole at the bottom of a dead ended wall.
Sky breathes the largest sigh of relief, or what he thinks is the largest. Wild is a worthy competitor, and Sky realizes that Wild and Hyrule were just as worried about their fourth member. The thought is comforting. He wonders how they both dealt with it so much better than himself.
Wolfie quickly merges into Twilight and instantly Twilight is ranting about giant caverns and crystals and underground rivers and he's starting to suggest making the hole wider when Hyrule all of a sudden cuts him off.
"Actually, I think we should go to the entrance and wait for the others," he says, shocking Sky. What's even more shocking is when Wild nods along.
"Yeah, we shouldn't risk it," he says.
Twilight frowns, as if the mere thought of Hyrule and Wild turning down potential adventure is truly the most puzzling of things, but then he turns and his face softens when he looks at Sky.
"What do you think, Chosen?" He asks, though he says it like he already knows the answer.
"Can... can we go back?"
Twilight smiles, and gives a half-hearted shrug. "Three against four, then, I suppose."
He doesn't sound all that disappointed about it. Caverns and crystals and underground rivers for some reason must not sound as exciting to him any longer. He wonders what took priority, because Twilight is all about priority, but he doesn't wonder too much into it because they all stand up and make their way towards the entrance of the cave. Or, the caved in entrance.
Whatever way, Sky feels like it's easier and easier to breath the closer they get to it. They settle their things down by the cave in and sit and talk and look at more of Wild's magic paintings, and eventually there's movement and the wall comes crumbling down. They're met with sunlight, the smiling, grimy face of Four whose holding an unlit bomb in their arms, but more importantly, they're met with endless blue, and Sky feels like he can truly breathe again.
