Imagine being the Cohort soldiers from the Erebos who were sent respond to Judith's distress call.

They land to find a dead Lyctor, run through with a Cohort infantry sword, and two new Lyctors, one freshly missing an arm. I doubt either of them were particularly coherent by that stage.

And then they go to clear the inside of the building. In the room the transmission came from, there's a dead priest and an enormous pool of blood, but no sign of captain Deuteros. Her cavalier is missing an eye and seems to have been blown open from the inside.

A room down the hall is singed and splattered with blood and chunks of human flesh. Perhaps there are fragments of grey robes, or perhaps some poor psychometrist works out that they're looking at what's left of the Master Warden of his House.

Further into the building they enter a study with the words "YOU LIED TO US" daubed across an ancient and beautiful mural. The Third House cavalier lies dead on the floor, stabbed from behind. The Master Templar of the Eighth is lying dead, his throat slit, apparently by his own cavalier's sword. And his cavalier... His eyes are gone, there is something wrong with his mouth. His wrist and neck are broken. The whole room is dripping and sticky with blood and human fat.

Searching past the kitchen, they find the morgue. There's a bowl of ashes (two people's, dead before the pilgrimage even began, confirms the by now very shaken psychometrist). One of drawers lies open and the sheet has been roughly pulled off the body inside: the utterly shattered body of the Fifth House necromancer is lying there, her blouse rolled up to her ribs, a fist sized hole in her abdomen.

Neatly lying under sheets in the other drawers there are more bodies, and the preserved severed head of the Seventh House cavalier. There is no sign of his body. The Fourth House cavalier has been impaled through the chest, shoulders and legs, precisely, like an insect for display. Her necromancer...it might be easier to list the places where he hasn't been impaled. The Fifth House cavalier is just as destroyed as his necromancer: limbs broken, body horribly mangled.

Later, they find the bloodsoaked bed with "sweet dreams" daubed on the wall in blood. If they get as far as the facility, they discover the outlines of two horribly broken bodies surrounded by necromantic diagrams drawn on the floor in pen. One unremarkable room is splattered in blood and singed with spirit fire.

The building is full of collapsed skeleton constructs, seemingly mid task, as if all struck down simultaneously, and as they explore they find more dead priests. They find no sign of the Sixth or Ninth cavaliers, or the Crown Princess of the Third, or of Captain Deuteros. And from what they've already seen, this can't feel encouraging.

It's clear that this building has witnessed necromantic horrors beyond their comprehension. What were the scions of the Houses doing, or what was being done to them? What could possibly cause what they have seen?

And I can't imagine that after seeing the truth of what happened at Canaan House, that John would have taken the risk of those soldiers revealing what they had seen. After all, he's a very careful guy.

alright well i opened this can of worms so i might as well lie in it:

the topic that taylor swift is lauding herself for, which is winning back her recording copyrights from scooter braun by rerecording new versions, is not a new topic to anyone in the industry. it was what legally killed sampling in the gilbert o'sullivan/biz markie court case. it was why loleatta holloway didn't like what house music did to her voice. it's why aretha's estate is currently being settled in court on a handwritten will found in her couch. it's why oprah humiliated toni braxton on her show for going broke while her dining table was set with gucci flatware because she didn't know where her money was going. it's one of the reasons kesha sued dr luke. it's the reason why poe left the industry. it's why tori amos built her own privately held studio. it's why there's a death clause and it's why there's a 27 club.

so along comes taylor "my dad bought the industry for me" "great gowns" swift, goes through the same hell as everybody else -- and it is hell, i'm not disputing that, but she won time magazine's person of the year, does not need my approval, and is not marketing to my demographic -- swoops through the record label vault, swipes her own recording copyrights by rereleasing them (this also requires a privately held studio btw), changes nothing about the industry structure, and leaves everybody else in the lurch.

if that was all she was capable of, given the resources at her disposal, that's kind of sad. if that was all she wanted, that's worse.

and on top of it all i know this is a ridiculous assertion and i don't even particularly care whether i'm right or not but i find it insulting that she had to pad her ass to sell a sufficiently, marketably unremarkable figure. it's like they're selling a girlbossification of girlboss so girled she isn't even that boss. like come on. she could have bought scooter braun's whole life and the building he lived in, and released all his copyrights written by other people back to their rightful holders, don't make me laugh. she still could. she won't.

As much as I love Pokémon SV, I am so fucking disappointed at the worldbuilding (for the lack of a better term).

I don't know if it has anything to do with the countless performance issues but how come we cannot enter any of the houses. That is a staple experience in all Pokémon games and now it's just gone. Also, I understand that the gyms are more official now—with the Pokémon League operating more like a corporation—but couldn't they have done more with the interior of the gyms? It feels less like a gym and more like a reception desk for a business building. This coupled with the fact that stores are literally just menus. Like they couldn't even bother putting a small portrait of the shopkeeper or literally anything else to stylize the menus better.

Another gripe I have is that the cities themselves are kinda bland and unremarkable. Aside from the gym leaders, there's nothing that makes the cities stand out amongst the other cities from the franchise. The only truly memorable one is Mesagoza and maybe Artazon just because of its gym challenge. Everything else, while they're unique from each other in their design and visuals, feels like nothing but setpieces and contributes very little to the region as a whole.

In short, I am so massively disappointed because as amazing as the story, characters, and character design was it feels like everything else in the game is lacking and unpolished. Like, the art direction when it comes to the concepts is great but then it fumbles it all when it comes to execution and to the direction of the game proper.

HAIR : Short, unremarkable brown hair the color of dry dirt. As the game progresses one might notice it grows just a little longer, curling at the ends. EYES : An odd shade of gray, nearly silver. Her mother used to compare it to the skies of Moray, but some now might think the color more akin to a star in the sky. HEIGHT : 5'5" BUILD : Average - soft in the middle from years of seclusion within the library, she has a bit of muscle in the arms but not nearly as much as she ought. SCAR(S) : Though they're covered up by her robes for the most part, she is absolutely covered in scars. Her years as a wolf are the most likely culprit - though she heals faster than a normal human, it doesn't mean she doesn't scar. The most visible ones are the thin, faded ones where silver chains were. OTHER : Like many of her order, she favors whites and grays in her robes. She wears a simple robe, with a little bit of mail underneath for protection. She also wears an emblem of Selûne around her neck. FACECLAIM : Alicia Vikander

1460 DR : Born to the lycanthropic Malar-worshipping Black Bloods of Moray just before their venerated Feast of the Moon. Her name was so chosen to reflect this : Malyn.

1461 - 1472 DR : Her childhood on the Isle of Moray passed as most children's - with perhaps a bit more blood and death and the chaos of nature. But nevertheless, though many were afraid of the lycanthropes that controlled the island, Malyn found an unlikely friend in another little girl named Bethan. The two would sneak away from their families to play on the stony cliffs, building entire worlds together.

1473 DR : Another sign of her having been blessed by Malar - her thirteenth birthday and her first transformation coincided with the Feast of the Moon. She was allowed to participate in the night's festivities as a treat and, in accordance with her traditions, gave herself fully to the hunt . . . when she was once again herself she stood, covered in blood, over the ravaged and gasping body of Bethan's father, the night's chosen quarry. She was praised by her people for the hunt, but Malyn ran away and tried to explain herself to her friend - only to be chased away with silver and curses by the girl and her mother. She at last fled the Isle on a trading ship bound for Waterdeep, hiding herself in the ship's hold and hoping it would keep her from changing before the moon did again. Unfortunately for all aboard, she was young and uncontrolled - when the change came on her again a few weeks into their voyage, she slaughtered most of the crew and was thrown overboard into the sea. She washed up along some shore, still a wolf - but soaked and scraggly.

1474 - 1475 DR : Whether through her own wish or no, Malyn would live these next years as a wolf alone. Even as an adult she couldn't be certain as to why. But the villages along the coast soon learned to keep their children in of a night, and livestock and corpses both were ravaged during a full moon especially. She remembers very little of these years - just blood, the hunt, and the fear of silver. Many hunters were hired, and just as many ran away in fear or were killed.

1476 DR : Salvation came in the form of a Silverstar of Selûne passing through a nearby village. As others before her had, she hunted the strange, stringy brown wolf with the strange eyes that the locals described. She managed to capture the wolf and waited the next three nights of the full moon, keeping a vigil and praying while it strained weakly against silver chains. For the first time in years, Malyn the girl emerged from the wolf and was transformed - a bit worse for wear. The Silverstar introduced herself as Adara, gave thanks to her goddess, and offered the girl - just sixteen - respite within the House of the Moon. After a journey of a couple weeks, they arrive and Adara stays for a few months helping Malyn recover before the girl announces her intention to enter the priesthood.

1477 - 1479 : Malyn becomes a novice and takes the name of Yvaine, shedding her birth name to fully dedicate herself to her new goddess. The one she credited with saving her life - where had Malar been, but goading her into spreading more death and chaos? She throws herself entirely into her worship of Selûne, spending her days in study and prayer. And once a month, her faith is tested. In the early days, she is chained with silver in the basement of the temple alongside other young lycanthropes - for the safety of the city and themselves. While others soon find it within them to control the beast with the aid of their silver lady, Yvaine . . . struggles.

1480 : Her novitiate ended, Yvaine takes her full vows and becomes a priestess, or cleric.

1481 - 1491 : Yvaine serves chiefly as an archival assistant in the House of the Moon's library. Her talent for learning languages comes in handy, given the wide breadth of Selûnite worship, and she spends much of her time translating texts to Common for the purpose of study. Twice a tenday, she begins teaching a class to other novices on Selûnite history. Adara visits intermittently and often encourages Yvaine to come out of the steps of the temple doors, but the younger cleric worried for her control. Though prayer had helped, she still felt the call of the beast within and worried any undue stress might call it out again.

1492 : With the wizard Larroakan's rumored search reaching the ears of Selûnites, Adara and a few other Silverstars are dispatched to find her. But not weeks after their leaving, Yvaine - in her opinion - is given a vision by the goddess herself of the Nightsong. With permission from the High Priestess ( and no small amount of trepidation ) she heads out on her own, following a trail based on study and Adara's letters on the subject. She comes to the druid grove and eventually joins Halsin and the rest in trying to enter the Temple of Selûne overrun with goblins. When the others flee, Yvaine remains lingering near the blighted village of Moonhaven, deciding what to do, and can be recruited from there.

Outlander Role Reversals

So I’ve been thinking recently of possible reverse!Outlander AUs and I can’t pick a favorite so here are all the different concepts I’ve come up with (most of them are kinda crack)

1. Jamie and Claire are happily married and settled, with Claire as Lady of the house at Lallybroch. Jenny is unmarried because she never met someone who could compel her to give up her freedom. Ian is a friendly but overall unremarkable man in the 20th century, who stumbles into the past by accident. He lost his leg in WW2, and when he stumbled into the 1700s he was super annoyed to find that his prosthetic did not travel with him. So now he walks using a peg he fashioned from a sturdy stick by the Dun.

He ends up at Leoch, offering his services in accounting or something— it’s hard for a one legged guy with no connections to get a job in an agricultural economy. He meets Jenny there when she’s fostering with her uncles temporarily (due to Black Jack Randall harassing her).

2. Jamie and Jenny are siblings born in the 20th century. They both get sent through to the 18th century one day and can’t make it through again immediately. They set out to Inverness to find help or figure out what to do, but two people with no money and strange clothing are not treated well in the city. They hitch a ride with a man named Ian Murray up to Broch Morda, their hometown in modern day, and along the way Jenny gets very close to him. Jamie doesn’t really approve because he knows how men in this time think of women and is also still hopeful they can find a way to return home one day.Once in Broch Morda, Ian invites them to come stay at the big house of Lallybroch with him. They ask if he’s Laird and he laughs and laughs before saying no: the Laird is a woman named Claire Beauchamp.

3. Everyone is a time traveler! Jenny and Jamie come through together last, and meet Ian. The Croft by the Dun is owned by Ian Murray, whose parents were time travelers from some era idk which. Sometimes around high holidays he stays at the Croft just in case someone comes through and needs his help. He offers to bring the siblings up to Broch Morda. The laird is an ancestor of Jenny and Jamie, which they think is neat but weird. They stay with him rather than an inn because of their out-of-time clothes.

Ian’s home only has two beds so Jamie offers to sleep on the floor so as not to put out Ian or make his sister do it (since they’re modern, maybe she just says I’m taking the bed! And laughs at him before he has a chance to be chivalrous.) The beds are separated from the area where Jamie sleeps so Jenny and Ian do some soft bonding through hallway conversations and such. Jamie isn’t concerned about Jenny’s reputation because they're from the 21st century.

For comedy, make them millennials who traveled from like 2009 or something (imagine the fashion! The hair! The cultural in-jokes no one else finds funny!) Jamie and Jenny are both interested in exploring history a bit, and they’re orphans back in modern times so there’s no hurry to travel back home. They decide to stay for a while, and without realizing start building lives in the past.

Jump ahead a couple of years: Jenny and Ian fall in love and get married. Jamie has found no significant ties to the area, and after his sister's wedding feels adrift. He needs to decide: get his own home now that Ian and Jenny are starting a family, or go back to the stones and return to the 2000s without Jenny?
