you were making your way up to michigan to see your brothers tyler and dylan.
it became custom when you and dylan joined university that you'd visit each other whenever possible. you were the one who did most of the driving considering his hectic game schedule.
so this weekend was no different.
you finished classes early and it was just in time for a long weekend. so you packed all your things in your car for the three hour drive ahead of you.
"hey dyl, i'm just getting started on the journey. i should get to aa around like the afternoon," you left your brother a message.
you then facetimed your boyfriend. the michigan native answered his phone immediately.
"hi gorgeous," he answered, moving into his room and locking the door.
"hi marky, i was trying to get through to dyl but he’s not answering,” you explained.
“yeah, we were playing a game of monopoly and your brothers got into a fight about rent or something,” mark drawled on.
you rolled your eyes at your brothers childish antiques. mark chuckled at your expression before he fell on his bed.
“you’re staying with duker right?” he asked.
you shrugged “i hope so, i don’t feel like sleeping in a dorm again,”
your conversation was cut short when someone entered marks room. “yo stop sign, we’re gonna grab something to eat before y/n gets here,” ethan called out.
“oh hey y/n, how’s the drive?” he asked once he spotted you in the phone.
“it’s going great eddy. except for the fact that i am almost out of gas now and i need food,” you complained.
you had spoken to mark for over an hour of your journey. how he managed to stay away from the boys that long was beyond you but it helped with the boring journey.
“you fill your tank and i’ll see you when you get here,” mark wished you goodbye and sent you a kiss before ending the call.
as you headed into the station and grabbed some snacks, you texted your brothers your eta and thanked the cashier before walking out, sour patch kids in hand.
the roads were getting more slippery as you approached ann arbor causing you to slow down just a little.
it all happened so fast.
you were taking a bend when your car slide off the road, driving off road into a tree.
the impact of the car caused you to hit your head on the dashboard. you were knocked out immediately not hearing the shouts asking if you were alright.
meanwhile, back in michigan your brothers were wondering where you were. “wait when you checked her location last where was she?” dylan asked.
tyler pulled his phone out and check find my iphone “she was at this exact spot dude, i swear to you,” he explained.
now that got all the boys worried.
so ethan, mark, tyler and dylan all piled into a car and drove to your location.
“dude, why are there so many police cars?” ethan asked.
his question was answered when the boys pulled up to the side, tyler noticed his sisters license plate and her sticker saying ‘osu mum’.
the younger duke brother made a dash towards his sisters car. dylan followed after with mark.
“woah. woah, you guys can’t be here,” a cop told the three boys.
“no, sir that’s my sister,” dylan explained. tyler had tears coming out of his eyes as he watched his sister be pulled out of on a stretcher.
the cops face softened as he ushered the two brothers to follow him. “you guys get in the ambulance, your friends can follow and i’ll be there soon okay,” he explained.
tyler and dylan wasted no time climbing into the back of the ambulance. mark headed back to the car, his hands shaking.
ethan was quick to notice and strapped him into the passenger seat. “mark, she’s going to be okay. it’s y/n she’s going to pull through,” he reassured his friend.
ethan and mark called the rest of the group telling them what happened and they didn’t even stop for a second before they headed towards the hospital.
ethan and mark met tyler and dylan in the waiting room.
"they took her to do some scans. they say say it's not anything major but umm, they want to make sure there isn't any like internal bleeding or anything," tyler mumbled.
mark wrapped the younger duke brother in a hug. he knew how close you and tyler were so he took it upon himself to look after the boy.
it was pretty soon after that the rest of the michigan boys showed up. tyler had texted some of your friends from osu telling them what happened as they blew up your phone.
the cop who brought the boys to the hospital handed dylan and tyler your suitcase and waited with the brothers and their friends.
it was quiet in the hospital as the doctors finished doing some checks on you before letting dylan and tyler in. your parents were trying to find the fastest way to see you guys but till they came it was your brothers that took care of everything.
but by some unfortunate luck, when dylan and tyler had finally been allowed to see you, your ecg started beeping like crazy. the two brothers watched as nurses and doctors flocked into your room pushing the two out.
mark rushed over to your room to see what was happening and watched as your once steady heartbeat went flat. tyler was crying hysterically as rutger and frank tried comforting their friend.
ethan held onto dylan, the older boy trying to maintain a strong face for his younger brother.
but mark couldn't handle it. his chest felt tight and he felt like he couldn't breathe. his ears were ringing and the only thing he wanted was to be in your arms.
"kiddo are you okay?" the cop asked.
the question brought everyone's attention towards mark. the michigan native clutched onto his chest as he looked dylan in the eyes.
the look was all dylan needed to know.
dylan wanted to scream at his teammate. how could mark go against the one unspoken law they had all agreed on. don't date your friends sister.
tyler hadn't caught on yet. but as he was about to ask his brother what was wrong a nurse came out of your room.
"are you guys y/n dukes family?" she asked.
the boys all nodded, forgetting the moment of tension.
"she's going to be alright. it seems that she was waking up and her tracker slipped," she explained.
tyler wanted to go in and see his sister but the nurse added "is there a boy named mark here. she was asking for him earlier,"
mark stepped forward and followed after the nurse. but before he went in, he grabbed onto tyler’s arm and pulled him along.
“i know she’d want to see you too,” he whispered

God Must Hate Me
A call to your mother goes horribly wrong. Luckily, Matt is there to help you pick up some of your broken pieces.
Listened to God Must Hate Me by Catie Turner and decided to project into my writing!
Matt murdock x reader, hurt/comfort, bisexual!reader Word count: 1.8k Warnings: swearing, religious trauma lol, self-loathing, implied CSA EDIT: I know Catholicism is a part of Christianity!!! This is just based on my parents and how they talked about other denominations :)
Your shoulders shook as you slid down the wall, silent sobs wracking your body. One hand was clutching your phone, the other clapped over your mouth, desperate to contain any noise that might slip out. Sinner, your mother had called you. Hedonist. Sodomite. Her words looped over and over in your mind, drowning out all other thoughts.
You wouldn’t have called in the first place had it not been for your sister. She texted you the night before saying that she was back home caring for your elderly father who had caught the flu. She said that your mother wouldn’t stop talking about you, complaining that you never called, that she didn’t know anything about your life. You spent that night tossing and turning, contemplating whether it was worth getting back in contact with her. Your relationship with your mother had always been strained, considering the abuse you endured in your childhood, but you didn’t hate her. You couldn’t. You felt a sense of guilt in pushing her away, as if you were abandoning a debt you owed.
What pushed you over the edge was a text from your father this morning.
Hi pumpkin. I miss your smile. I’m a little under the weather, and I’d love a visit from my girl. Hope all is well. Love, Dad.
Despite everything your mother had put both of you through, you and your father were always close. You had talked to Matt, sharing your dilemma. On one hand, you didn’t really want to speak to your mother. On the other hand, your father was getting old, and you didn’t know how many more visits you had with him. He had always been delicate, getting sick easily and hurting himself by accident. He was also the only person besides your sister who truly understood you until Matt, and you missed him.
“Give them a call,” Matt suggested. He looked so beautiful, his hair catching the sunlight from the window and his body draped over the armchair. His hand lazily grasped a mug, steam drifting up from the warm coffee. “If the call goes well, go over and visit. I’ll come with you, if you want.”
You chewed on your lip anxiously. “And… if it doesn’t go well?” Your fingers picked idly at the rug below you. You were seated on the floor, resting your head against his leg as you sipped your tea. This was your unofficial weekend tradition, the two of you seated in this position while you talked about… well, whatever you needed to talk about. Anything that didn’t get brought up during the week, a dream one of you had, a funny story you had from work. Mornings like this were sacred, the peace and domesticity somehow washing away any other worries. In these moments, nothing else existed except you and Matt, your own little corner of heaven.
He ran his hand through your hair, slowly and deliberately raking his fingers over your scalp until you sighed in contentment. “Then I’ll be here for that, too,” he hummed.
Now, you found yourself wishing you had never said anything in the first place. All you wanted was to talk to your parents, check up on them, maybe even test the waters of a possible visit. Instead, you were berated for your lifestyle, called a whore and a sinner and told you were destined for hell.
“And how’s your love life? Have you finally found a nice man or are you still in your lesbian phase?” You bristled at the comment, knowing your mother never took your sexuality seriously. Your coming out had been a disaster and had resulted in you staying with a friend for two months because your mother couldn’t stand the sight of you. “I’m bisexual, mom, that’s not a phase. But… yeah, I met someone,” you admitted. Your mother scoffed on the other end of the line, which you pointedly chose to ignore. “His name is Matthew, he’s a lawyer here in Hell’s Kitchen.”
“Such an awful name for a city. Why do they call it that, anyways? It couldn’t have been heaven’s kitchen?” You kept quiet, doing your best to push off the inevitable argument as your mother plowed on. “It’s good that you’ve come to your senses and met a boy. Where does he work? Is he Christian? Does he want kids?”
You rolled your eyes, trying to keep the irritation out of your voice. “He runs his own firm, Nelson and Murdock, he’s actually over there right now to grab some paperwork. I don’t know if he wants kids, we haven’t really thought about it. I only just moved in with him, and no, he’s not Christian. He’s Catholic, goes to mass every week.” There was a long silence before your mother finally spoke again.
“You… you moved in? As in… you live together?” Her tone was as if you had just told her that you shoved someone off of a building. “Yeah, I was staying over so much that we figured it wasn’t worth spending money on an apartment I don’t live in.” You arched a brow at her sharp intake of breath. “Mom? You okay?”
“Honey,” she said, her words dripping with venom. “Are you having sex with this man? Before marriage?” You couldn’t help the choked laugh that escaped your throat. “Mom, it’s not the 1800’s anymore. People have sex and move in with each other, it isn’t a crazy concept. My sex life isn’t really any of your business, though.” She made a sound of indignation, her voice an octave higher than when she last spoke. “That is no way to talk to your mother! I can’t believe you would be such a sinner, after everything I worked so hard to teach you. This behavior is disgusting, you know that? Only whores engage in such hedonistic acts.”
You stiffened at her words, years of religious teachings and long hours spent in churches creeping into your mind. Memories of wooden switches and Sunday School songs wrapped their tendrils around your throat, threatening to choke you until you had to plead with God for mercy. You took a gulp of air, trying desperately to keep your voice steady as tears pricked your eyes. “Mom, I’m not going to let you make me feel bad for the way I live my life, especially regarding something as small as who I’m spending my nights with. I just called to see how you and dad are doing, but if you don’t want to talk to me, that’s fine. I have other things to do anyway.” Her voice pierced through your phone’s speaker before you could hang up, your name spat from her lips like it was something profane. “All I ever did was try to raise a nice Christian girl, and this is what I get in return? A slut that sleeps with women and men before she’s even married? A sodomite? And he’s Catholic! You know catholicism isn’t biblical, how many times have I told you to stay away from non-Christians?” Tears were streaming down your face at this point, recollection of the confession of your treatment at the hands of the local pastor resulting in beatings. For some reason, you could only form a response to the last part of her rant. “After all of that, catholicism doesn’t seem as bad,” you said dryly.
“If we weren’t on the phone I’d smack you across the face for that. Don’t bother calling again. I’m not interested in hearing the lifestyle of a hellbound heathen.” The call ended with a dull beep, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
You distantly registered the sound of the door opening, footsteps coming down the hallway and making their way to where you were outside of the bedroom. Matt knelt in front of you, his unseeing eyes wide with concern. Your name fell from his lips as he cupped your face in his hand, lightly tracing his thumb along your cheek. “What happened? Was it your mom?” All you could do was nod as another sob escaped you. Desperate for some kind of comfort, you reached out your arms in a silent request. He complied without hesitation, drawing you into his chest and letting out a sad hum as you gripped his shirt, clinging to any semblance of stability.
“What do you need, love?” he asked softly, his fingers gently running up and down your spine. “Do you want to talk about it?” You instinctively shook your head and then paused, reconsidering. “I don’t… I don’t know why she still affects me the way she does,” you croaked. “It’s like every time we talk, I’m a scared little kid again.” Your voice dropped to a whisper, shame making your words thick. “She called me a whore, Matt. Called me a heathen for moving in with you, said I was going to hell. There was more, some sexuality stuff and Catholic-shaming you, but that was the main point.”
Matt went rigid, his fingers abruptly stopping their soothing motions on your back. When he spoke, his voice was dangerously low. “She’s wrong, love. You know those are just lies, right?” You shrugged helplessly, keeping your eyes trained on the ground as you shifted your position, opening up the space between the two of you. “I’m not religious. Not anymore, not after everything I went through in the church.” You sighed tiredly, scrubbing your hand down your face. “But being raised the way I was… it sticks, y’know? That belief system is a part of who I am, whether I want it to be or not, and I can’t help but think… what if she’s right? I mean, I’m not exactly a saint. Usually I’m pretty good at rationalizing all this stuff, but man, God must hate me. I’m such a bad person, Matt.”
He physically flinched at that. “Don’t ever call yourself that,” he seethed. You jerked your head up to look at him, his anger taking you by surprise. His words were sharp, his tone dripping barely-concealed anger. “You are not a bad person for living your life.” You made a noise of protest but he quickly cut you off. “I don’t know what they drilled into your head to make you hate yourself so much, but none of it is true. You’re the most wonderful, kind, selfless person I’ve ever met, and God help anyone who makes you think anything different.” He pressed a kiss into your forehead and you managed a small smile. “I love you. So much,” he breathed.
“I love you too. Thanks for trying to undo my religious trauma even though you have enough of it for all of Hell’s Kitchen. Sorry for crying on your shirt.” He chuckled at that, helping you to your feet. “Nothing to apologize for, love. Now, let’s go to the store. We need to buy some eggs.”
You arched a brow. “We have eggs in the fridge. What are you up to, Murdock?” He smiled, a mischievous glint in his eye. “We have a house to egg, of course. Don’t tell me you’re above petty revenge?”
You laughed, the tension in your body draining. God, you loved this man. “Of course not. I’m a good heathen, after all.”

hey, i have a question, how would you write Cassie and Jinny's relationship?
would jinny be on young justice, will it be long distance, what would their dynamic be?
My gut instinct was to say that I’d probably want to focus on them in those first/awkward stages of dating? Half the fun of reading for me sometimes is just enjoying the journey of two idiots figuring things out. Sometimes ya just want some sickly sweet fluff!
But the more that I think abt Cassie having a fraught history dating Kon/Tim, the metas abt comphet & okay also CassieRose visits my mind a LOT, not rent-free just as a surprise guest atm… also Jinny still on the heels of finding her last gf cheating & when we last saw her doin the road-trip thing with her friend (now kinda-sister???)
I’m like 👀 there’s some messy potential here AND I LOVE IT
But to circle back & try to answer in mostly the same order:
If DC were to give me the reins to write a run today, I’d def want to know what Outsiders is gonna do with Jinny first & make sure I’m not stepping on too many toes obvsly. I rlly hope that they’re picking up on the road trip from the end of her Special, but the premise isn’t leaving me super hopeful that there’s any editors left at DC to pay attention to that kind of thing 🙃 also there’s speculation rn abt a new YJ book with a diff cast so I don’t think either of them are gonna be part of YJ here pretty soon 😅
For fic writing tho, the beauty is that we can Licherally do whatever we want, so I can be as canon-compliant or noncompliant as possible so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ in that respect it’s a matter of when I would want that potential fic to take place (or ig what setting 👀 YJ college au request in my inbox I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOUUUU)
Long distance I think doesn’t really factor when one of the pair is able to fly so uh 😅 change in setting would have to be more of a factor to consider that? (Again, college AU I might consider it for its conflict potential 🤔) (also what qualifies as long distance bc I’ve got a friend who’s dating a guy that’s like 3hrs away, but that’s Texas distance so it’s nbd for them to see each other on weekends but I know some ppl would consider Not Living in the Same City as long distance so aksjsks) idk, distance just isn’t a big deal to me in Gen tho too. Like, You Find A Way to make it work or you don’t and that’s where delicious Conflict™️ can take root lol
And ahh dynamic… that age-old question… who’s Red/Blue, the Grump/Sunshine, who falls first vs who falls harder, god there’s so many things to consider. I do think I fall back on thinking of them as the Opposite Worlds Attract kinda dynamic (wait no, now I’m thinking of night at the museum and zom made that gemhex, not wonderhex I’m 😭😭😭)
It’s FINE, there’s not much new under the sun 😂 but yea, wonderhex is something I love a lot, would love an excuse to write for them 👀👀👀 I just need a nudge 👀

Silly Songs With Killian - a CS Modern AU One-shot
Tumblr media
You can blame @sotangledupinit for this silly, but sweet, little story! She posted a prompt on Discord which caused my muse to jump to attention, and I wrote it in two days. If you're not familiar with the Veggie Tales videos, you'll still be able to enjoy this, but do yourself a favor and check out the songs on Spotify here. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy them and I guarantee they'll make you laugh!
Special thanks to Kit for making young Henry look even younger for the pic set, Mary for being my beta, and Krystal for being a second set of eyes for the Silly Songs lyrics and also for the pic set I created. It pays to have wonderful fandom friends!
Summary: After a frustrating and exhausting day, Emma Cassidy is relieved when her little boy, Henry, is entertained by a gorgeous musician at a restaurant, giving her a chance to sit back, relax, and enjoy the music (and the view!) It gets even better when the singer, Killian, sings some of Henry’s favorite Silly Songs from his favorite videos, Veggie Tales.

*********
It’s been one hell of a day. It wasn’t supposed to be this exhausting, but of course my ex, Neal, had to complicate things.
I was looking forward to going wedding dress shopping with my future sister-in-law Mary Margaret and her other bridesmaids, sipping champagne and giving my input on each of the possibilities. It was going to be so much fun.
And then...remember the saying that was popular many years ago - shit happens? Well, Neal can be used interchangeably with shit - they’re one and the same.
It was his scheduled weekend with our three-year-old, Henry, which was one reason why Mary Margaret chose this day. Then on Friday, almost an hour after Neal was supposed to pick Henry up at my apartment, he sent me a text: Something came up. Can’t make it this weekend. Tell Henry I’m sorry.
Apparently he turned off his phone after sending it, because he didn’t answer any of my increasingly volatile texts - eighteen of them, to be exact - or phone calls. I had to sit Henry in front of the television so I could go into my bedroom to leave some choice words on Neal’s voicemail.
Fortunately (or unfortunately for my sweet little boy) Henry is used to being let down by his father. In the eighteen months since we called it quits, Neal has skipped out on more weekend visits than he’s kept. I guess being a lying piece of shit takes up way too much of his time and he can’t spare any for his son.
Also unfortunately, all of the people who usually babysit for Henry were unable to watch him. Most of them were included in the shopping trip, my brother David was busy because he was painting the living room of the house he and his fiancée just bought, and Ruby’s Granny was off bowhunting with her new beau. (Bowhunting with her beau has been a running joke ever since she left a week ago.)
So instead of enjoying a carefree day of shopping with Mary Margaret, Belle, Ruby and Elsa, I had to keep an active, inquisitive toddler entertained in one bridal shop after another. We were all relieved when he finally fell asleep in the third shop, until the manager woke him up by screeching about how he was going to drool on the green velvet upholstery. That cost her any business she might have had from us (though in all honesty, her gowns were all hideous and looked like something only the Wicked Witch of the West might wear.)
Eventually, Mary Margaret said ‘yes to the dress’ in the fifth shop late in the afternoon, then we all decided to get an early dinner at a nearby restaurant that serves kids’ meals and has outdoor seating. If Henry has to spend one more minute inside today, I think he might have a complete meltdown.
After placing my order and getting Henry situated with the provided coloring sheet and obligatory four crayons, I hear someone speaking into a microphone and look over to see a guy standing on a small stage with a guitar. A very, VERY attractive guy.
“Good evening, everyone,” he says, and my jaw drops at the sound of his British accent. “My name is Killian and I hope you enjoy the music tonight. I do take requests. Feel free to sing along or dance in this nice, open area in front of me.”
“Oh, wow!” Belle gasps. “He’s very handsome, isn’t he, Emma?”
My jaw snaps shut and I turn to look at her. Seeing her sly smile, I teasingly say, “Why are you asking me? We all have eyes, you know.”
“Yes, but we all have significant others, too,” Ruby adds, which is completely unnecessary but, sadly, also completely true.
While my self pity begins to set in, the guy - Killian - strums his guitar and launches into the Eagles classic “Take it Easy”. Henry, who by this point has scribbled all over the coloring sheet, somehow managed to break his crayon into at least four pieces and, judging by the color of his teeth, took a bite of it as well, looks up with bright eyes. Since I allowed him to kneel on a chair instead of trying to strap him into a booster seat, he takes advantage of it and hops down.
Before I can chase after him, he makes a beeline for the open space in front of the admittedly gorgeous singer and begins jumping around in what passes for a three-year-old’s version of dancing. I sigh and start to get up, but Mary Margaret stops me with a hand on my arm. “Let him go. He’s been very good all day and deserves to burn off some energy. Besides, he’s only a few feet away and we can see him clearly from here.”
It doesn’t take much convincing for me to heed her advice. If someone else can entertain Henry for a while, I’m not going to complain.
When the song comes to an end, Killian acknowledges the smattering of applause and plays the extremely recognizable first chords of “All Right Now”. Henry doesn’t miss a beat, throwing himself around like a rag doll while all of us at our table, as well as most of the other diners, laugh delightedly at his exuberance.
By the time Killian is in the middle of his third song, “Old Time Rock and Roll”, our food arrives and I face the dreaded task of dragging my son back to the table to eat. I nibble at my fish and chips until the song ends, then dash to the makeshift dance floor to cajole Henry. When he shows the expected resistance, Killian chuckles and helpfully says, “Go with your mum, lad. I’ll play a slow song that’s not as much fun for dancing.”
True to his word, he croons the song “Everything I Do, I Do It For You” as Henry acquiesces and comes back to his seat to shove French fries into his mouth as fast as possible. It might not be a good song for Henry’s style of dancing, but Killian’s smooth voice singing the beautiful lyrics is sending pleasant chills down my spine.
Another song with a slow tempo follows, during which my little man polishes off his fries. But when Killian starts “Footloose”, all bets are off and Henry is back on the dance floor with a chicken nugget squeezed into both of his chubby fists.
After we finish our meals, Belle, Ruby and Elsa leave to spend the rest of the evening with their boyfriends. Mary Margaret lingers, telling me she’ll stay to keep me company, because she’d rather not have to help David clean up his painting mess. We don’t want to take up a table, so we move to some empty seats along the edge of the patio from where we can still see my little dancing king.
“You’d think his battery would run down soon,” Mary Margaret comments.
“Are you serious? That kid is like the Energizer bunny, plus he’s been cooped up in stuffy dress shops all day. My money is on the singer wearing out before Henry.”
She’s uncharacteristically quiet for several minutes. When she finally speaks, she says quietly, “He really is very handsome and seems like a nice guy.”
Her statement is out of left field and I’m confused. “Who?”
“The singer - Killian,” she clarifies.
I narrow my eyes at her. “What’s your point?”
“No point. I was just making a comment,” she shrugs, all innocence.
I don’t believe her. Mary Margaret is the queen of set-ups and wears the crown proudly. She introduced Belle to Will, Ruby to Jefferson and Elsa, well, she introduced Elsa to Victor, but that didn’t work out very well. Elsa met Graham on her own.
“I’m not looking for someone to date, Mary Margaret. I’m still dealing with my idiot ex and trying to concentrate on raising my son not to follow in his father’s footsteps.”
“I understand, but…”
And it’s at this point I resign myself to the fact she’s going to spout some argument that’s going to weaken my resolve not to date.
“If Henry had a really good male role model in his life, it would help you in raising him to be a gentleman.”
“Seems to me David does a pretty good job of that, in case you haven’t noticed.”
“I know,” she sighs, “but between working, getting the house ready and planning the wedding, his time with Henry is very limited.”
“The house will be ready before you get married and the wedding is in less than five months. After the honeymoon, he’ll have more time.”
“Oh, but then we’ll have children of our own, and you know how much time that takes.”
“Is this your way of telling me you’re pregnant, Mary Margaret?”
‘’What?” she gasps. “No! I’m just saying…”
“I know what you’re saying and I hear you. If the right guy comes along, I wouldn’t be opposed to dating him, but I’m not gonna try to force something to happen.”
“Wouldn’t it be nice to have a date for the wedding, though?” she presses.
“Henry will be my date. He’ll be very dapper in his little tux.”
“But…”
“No buts, Mary Margaret. I don’t want to be set up with someone just so I don’t look pathetic at your wedding.”
We both fall silent as we watch Henry continue to dance in front of the bemused musician. Glancing at the time on my phone, I realize he’s been at it for well over an hour and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. It’s beginning to get dark and I know I’ll have to wrangle him into the car before too much longer for his bath and bedtime.
I feel a little sorry for Killian, though. Nobody else has taken him up on his offer to dance, despite his repeated invitations. In fact, most of the diners aren’t paying attention to him at all. I hate to take his number one fan home, especially when I’m able to sit back and relax while listening to some seriously good music.
“I’m going to take a little break and then I’ll be back,” Killian announces, lifting the guitar strap over his head.
“Well, I guess that’s my cue to take Henry home,” I say to Mary Margaret.
“I suppose so,” she agrees. “Let me say goodbye to him and then I have to be on my way, too. According to his text, David is anxious for me to see how the living room turned out.”
We both stand up and move toward the stage, but I stop in my tracks. Killian is squatting down in front of Henry, listening to him with a huge smile on his face. I don’t know what Henry is saying, and I’m not sure Killian will be able to understand it anyway. Henry has an extensive vocabulary for a three-year-old, but I listen to him with ‘mom ears’, which means I can actually decipher what he’s trying to say.
When we reach them, Killian looks up at us and whatever I was going to say flies right out of my head. From a distance, the man is handsome. Close up, he’s nothing short of breathtaking. Carefully trimmed scruff covers a jawline sharp enough to cut glass, his cheekbones would put every male model to shame, and his dark hair is swept back from his forehead with a few rogue strands hanging down enticingly. Even his slightly pointed ears are adorable.
But it’s his eyes that shut down the functioning part of my brain. To say they are blue is like saying the sun is a tad bit warm, and the way the waning light catches them makes them shine like sapphires. I’m aware that my mouth is hanging open like a fish on dry land, but I can’t seem to make it form actual words.
“Hello, Killian. We’ve been thoroughly enjoying your music tonight, even if we haven’t been showing it as much as this little guy.”
Thank God for the natural chattiness of Mary Margaret.
Killian reaches out to ruffle Henry’s sweaty hair, then stands up. “I’m very happy to hear that,” he says in that beautiful, lilting accent. “I was just telling young Henry here that I’ll play some special songs for him after the break.”
I finally find my tongue. “Oh, but I was coming to tell Henry it’s time to go home.”
My little con artist turns his baby browns on me. “Please, Mommy. I be a good boy, I pwomise.”
That’s just great. Now if I take him home, I’ll have to forfeit my Mom of the Year award.
Mary Margaret laughs. “Well, Henry and Emma may be able to stay, but I really have to go.”
Why did she emphasize my name so much? As if I don’t already know.
She hugs Henry and me, tells Killian goodbye, and winks at me as she passes by. Even without trying to set me up, she’s setting me up.
I look back at Killian, who finishes chugging a bottle of water and grins at me. Reaching out to take my hand, he shakes it and says, “It’s nice to meet you, Emma, and little Henry.”
“Nice to meet you, too, Killian. Thanks for entertaining my son tonight.”
“It’s been my pleasure. I love how uninhibited kids are, and how joyful.”
“Well, his day certainly didn’t start out joyfully at all.” I shouldn’t have said it, but I’m still boiling about what Neal did to his own son, especially when this stranger seems so happy to spend time with him.
“No?” Killian questions. “May I ask what happened?”
I glance down at Henry, not wanting to bash his no-good father in front of him. He’s happily lining up little stones he collected along the edge of the patio, oblivious to the conversation going on above him.
“He was supposed to be with his dad this weekend, but he canceled. Again. So Henry was stuck shopping for wedding dresses with us all day.”
“I see.” He ponders for a second. “Would that wedding dress be for the lovely lass who just left…or someone else?”
“Yeah, it’s for Mary Margaret. She’s engaged to my brother.”
“I’m very glad I was able to make Henry’s day better, because his dancing did the same for me.” We watch Henry play, babbling to himself. “He seems like a happy little lad,” Killian observes.
“I do my best, but as a single mom, I make a lot of mistakes.”
“Don’t be too hard on yourself, Love. All parents make mistakes. It’s a good thing kids have perfect aunts and uncles,” he says with a smirk.
“So, are you an imperfect father or a perfect uncle?” Am I really flirting with him right now?
“I have two nieces, so that would make me the latter.”
“Do you get to see them very often?”
“Aye, they live just a few miles from me, so I spoil them as often as possible. They’re my brother Liam’s girls.”
“Doesn’t sound like you’re originally from the U.S., if you don’t mind me saying.”
He chuckles again, rubbing his finger behind his right ear. “We were born in England and lived there until I was fourteen, then my father took a job here so we moved across the pond.”
“That explains the accent.”
He nods and checks his watch, blowing out a breath. “I should probably get back to my set. Will you allow young Henry to stay for a few more songs?”
I shrug my shoulders. “Sure. What’s another fifteen minutes in the grand scheme of things?”
A genuine smile splits his face. “Excellent! I think he’ll particularly like the next three or four songs I play.” He looks around and grabs a nearby chair from an empty table, setting it down beside me. “Won’t you please have a seat, Emma?”
“Such a gentleman,” I say, sinking onto the offered chair.
“Oh, I’m always a gentleman.”
Somehow I don’t mind him flirting with me.
He steps back on the stage, slips his guitar into place, and positions himself in front of the microphone. After giving me a wink, he announces in an overly accented, squeaky voice, “And now it’s time for Silly Songs with Killian. The part of the show where Killian comes out and sings…a silly song.”
I burst out laughing at the very familiar words. Henry is addicted to Veggie Tales, the wacky shows featuring talking fruits and vegetables. I love them because they teach good moral values; he loves them because they’re hilarious. His favorite part of every video is Silly Songs with Larry the Cucumber, which we watch over and over and over again. Apparently he conveyed this obsession to Killian.
Killian closes his eyes, somberly strums his guitar, and sings, “Oh, where is my hairbrush? Oh, where is my hairbrush? Oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh wherrrrrrrre…is my hairbrush?”
Henry is jumping up and down like a kangaroo on a pogo stick, shouting, “Mommy! Mommy! It’s the Lawwy song! Keeyin is singin’ the Lawwy song!”
Wiping tears of laughter from my eyes, I look around at the half-dozen people at the tables, who are looking at the musician like he’s lost his damn mind. Bunch of sticks in the mud. Lighten up.
But Killian isn’t bothered by their response, or lack thereof. He smoothly transitions to another of Henry’s favorite silly songs. “Oh, everybody’s got a water buffalo. Yours is fast, but mine is slow. Oh, where’d we get them, I don’t know. But everybody’s got a water buffalo, oooooo.”
Henry is beside himself with excitement. He’s running around in a circle, waving his arms in the air in his best impression of a rabid chimpanzee.
Killian moves on to sing a few lines of “I Love My Lips” (I can’t help thinking I’m quite fond of them, too), followed by “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything”.
By this time, the diners have relaxed, laughing and clapping along with the crazy tunes. Meanwhile, my son has finally worn himself out, collapsing in a small heap in front of the stage, looking up at Killian adoringly.
“...and we’ve never been to Boston in the falllllll,” Killian concludes with a flourish and takes a deep, dramatic bow.
I dig into my purse and pull out a twenty dollar bill. I always try to watch my budget, but I’ll skip getting a chocolate caramel latte for a few days to compensate. It’s worth it for what Killian did for Henry tonight.
Walking up to the stage, I drop the bill into the tip jar, smiling up at the singer. He’s between songs, so I say, “Thank you so much, Killian. You’re my hero for entertaining Henry tonight. It was great and he loved it, didn’t you, kid?”
Henry jumps to his feet. “I weally did, Keeyin! I love Lawwy songs!”
“What do you tell him?” I prompt.
“Thank you, Keeyin,” he says obediently.
“You’re very welcome, lad. I play here again in three weeks. Perhaps you can stop in and see me again?” He’s talking to Henry, but he’s looking at me.
“Can we, Mommy?” Henry pleads.
I know we probably can’t. This restaurant is all the way across the city from where we live, plus it’s pretty expensive. Mary Margaret footed the bill today, but twelve bucks for a kid’s meal is a little steep and I won’t pay it. I don’t want to say any of this though, because my tired son is walking a thin line between lingering happiness and an emotional collapse. So I use the parental standard, “We’ll see.”
Taking Henry’s hand, I say, “Thanks, again, Killian. Have a good evening.”
Something that looks like slight panic flashes through those gorgeous eyes of his and he speaks into the microphone, “I’ll be back in five, folks.” He slides his guitar around to his back and steps off the stage, placing himself directly in front of me. “Emma, if I may be so bold, and if you’re not already dating someone, would you consider going out with me?”
“Wh-what?” Apparently, getting asked out by the most handsome man I’ve ever laid eyes on renders me a bit stupid.
He lightly wraps his hand around my wrist and pulls me further toward the side of the patio for some privacy. “Even though we just met, I would really like to get to know you better.”
“But…but you don’t even know my last name.”
“What is it?”
“Cassidy.”
“Mine is Jones, so now we know each other a little better already.”
I stare at him, trying to think of a single reason why I should say no to him. “I…we…um…Henry and I, we…uh…we come as a packaged set.” That’s the way, Emma. Use your kid to try to scare him off. And you did it so gracefully, too.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m really quite fond of your son. That’s not a deal breaker,” he states firmly. He still hasn’t let go of my wrist and now he’s rubbing his thumb over it. I find I don’t mind at all.
“I…”
“Mommy, potty!” Henry announces.
Oh, geez. Killian has to get back to his set and Henry has to pee. I’m running out of time.
Dropping Henry’s hand, I rummage through my purse, trying to find a pen. “Got a piece of paper?” I ask, mid-rummage.
Killian dashes to his guitar case and pulls out a piece of sheet music, returning with it just as I locate the elusive pen. He plants his foot on a chair and slaps the paper down on his knee so I can scribble my number on it.
When I finish, I lift Henry into my arms and take off to find a bathroom. Before disappearing inside the restaurant, I glance back at Killian. He’s still standing where I left him, a broad smile on his face as he grips the paper in his hand. Raising my free hand, I give him a little wave and he returns it.
After I’ve had time to think about it, I might regret giving him my number. Right now I just have to keep my kid from peeing down the front of my dress.
*********
A year ago, Killian Jones was my hero for giving me a chance to relax while he entertained my son. Five months later, he was once again my hero by being my date to Mary Margaret and David’s wedding. Today, he’s still my hero because he’s continuously proving that not all men are incomparable asses.
On the contrary, he’s everything I dreamed a man should be, once upon a time. Killian Jones is talented, intelligent, funny, considerate, masculine, caring, loving, passionate, and a great conversationalist, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous (if I didn’t mention that, it would be a crime.) He’s the total package and I’m head-over-heels in love with him.
Oh, and he’s a fantastic role model for my little boy. I usually hate to admit when Mary Margaret is right, but in this case, she was unequivocally correct. He and Henry absolutely adore each other and it makes my heart so happy. They do everything together - read books, play Star Wars with lightsabers, build block towers, climb trees, ride bikes, you name it.
And Henry loves singing silly songs with his soon-to-be stepfather. What more could a mother want for her son? Except, perhaps, a sibling.
Killian and I are working on that…and thoroughly enjoying every second of it.
*********
Thank you for reading. I hope it brightened your day!

so I went to seattle
Tumblr media
(looong post ahead)
I travelled! far!!! to a place I haven't been since I was, like... 11, maybe? 12? it's hard to remember, but it has been SUCH a long time since I've been west of, like, St. Louis, and god it feels good (more on that later).
first and foremost: I got to meet the lovely @ticklefighthockey!! she is a delight! she is an immaculate hostess! she has two very adorable dogs who rule her household! she is very good at being game for just about anything!
it was such a treat to meet up with another fandom friend. I am (more on this later) working myself towards a self-understanding that has room for respecting online friendships just as much as in-person ones. I think I still sometimes deal with residual shame over having more online friends than offline friends—just cultural baggage that says people with online friends are losers and socially-inept and weird. while I KNOW that isn't true, I've always had complicated feelings about the fact that since college my primary friendship circle has ALWAYS been online, while that has never been true for people in my offline life.
but (more on this later as well), I'm trying to be more understanding and kind towards myself about that, and trying to embrace the crazy cool uniqueness of it, which is a real gift.
anyways, back to fandom friends I get to hang out with:
Tumblr media
isn't that amazing. I was agog at it.
jes is funny and engaging and game for anything! this is wonderful for me, a person who tries very hard to be funny and engaging and game for anything! of course, this meant we were aggressively "NO I WANT YOU TO HAVE THE BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE DURING THIS VISIT"-ing at each other constantly through the entire weekend. truly the Nice Gal version of two rams clacking horns, but instead of fighting over potential mates (hi Sid) we were beating each other's skulls silly and yelling "NO BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO?"
highly amusing to me, but also very conducive to, in fact, having the best experience possible. we ran around town desperately trying to cram things into an incredibly condensed schedule, but I felt like I saw so much!
Tumblr media
we were able to take her dogs—who are truly delightful and DECEPTIVELY YOUNG. you wouldn't know from how she talks about pip but he is 100% pure muscle (could give hornqvist a run for his money) and deeply willing to play tug-of-war until someone dies (it will be you. you will be the one to die. he will win.) and darling ruthie who will hate you until she decides she likes you (this will likely involve carrots) and after she likes you she does indeed become the precious angel baby of legend—out on an OUTDOOR HIKE! through a FOREST! near a LAKE!
these are in fact pedestrian things in seattle but to me, a poor midwesterner who lives on the very very tippy top of the appalachian region, this was GREAT FUN and MUCH EXCITEMENT. so we harnessed the dogs and embarked upon what we thought was a leisurely 4.2 mile hike and instead ended up being a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am-please-take-care-not-to-step-off-the-path-by-a-few-inches-lest-you-immediately-tumble-down-a-hundred-foot-ravine-to-your-grisly-(but-green-and-verdant!)-death-while-also-dragging-a-muscled-dog-with-you 0.42 mile MAD DASH.
we sped through it thanks to aforementioned muscled dog (and sister) having zero regard for imminent death (who cares about PERILOUS TRAILS when there are THINGS TO SNIFF) and at its end was a lake! wow!
Tumblr media
it was gorgeous and lovely and I would, in fact, hike a death-defying 0.42 miles again to see it.
then I successfully talked jes into letting me swing by pike place market (literally solely for the 'gram), but there was some fall festival going on, which is cute but also made it crowded as shit, so I took my coveted pic and bolted
Tumblr media
walking through downtown seattle was nice, even if I had to kind of jog because my days of making friends who are shorter than me (which is a feat) are over, and I am now cursed with friends who are in fact above average height, which makes me feel weird and also short (which I am). I liked seeing the city and also sort of being able to confirm that the city is nice and good and not what the NIMBYs and right-wing pundits would have you believe has happened to seattle. it's a good city! it's beautiful! literally everyone I met was so nice! (except for one kraken fan but we'll get to him).
speaking of hockey:
Tumblr media
my god, does seattle know how to put on a show. I was agog at the arena. it is shiny and new and impressive and beautiful and full of wood paneling and GREENERY and all the athletic, clear-faced seattleites who occupy the city. I was in a state of shock. this is, in fact, the first NHL arena I've been to that isn't PPG Paints.
Tumblr media
and it is so beautiful that i was immediately consumed with envy. how dare this new team, with all its west coast wealth, have better accommodations and audiovisuals and LIGHT UP SCULPTURES than my legacy appalachian team?
I swallowed my jealousy down and just took it all in. they basically put on a full amazon original before each period. there is LORE and the kraken entreat you to buy into it with full casts and impressive animations and a glow-in-the-dark tentacle erupting out of the ice. it is very effective. I did, in fact, buy merch.
also I dragged jes around during an intermission to track down the band and drumline because I fucking love a good drumline and if the pens knew what was good for them they would iNVEST IN A DRUMLINE
Tumblr media
but I was thinking to myself that this is literally exactly how you build a fanbase. this is hockey made thrilling. this is excitement. this is a PRODUCTION. this is what the golden knights want to be. this is, verily, the exact sort of shindig I would bring a kid to if I endeavored to make them into a hockey fan. I think it would work. it was a whole experience in the way pens games just... are not. pens games are hockey games! a kraken game is a circus, a TV show, and a lightshow with also some hockey. I was so blown away.
but let's get to why I was there:
Tumblr media
DAN POTASH.
and also some guys I guess:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm pleased to report geno looks as pretty in white in person as he does on tv. he is so big. he never, as jes puts it, shuts his mouth. ever.
Tumblr media
sid was also there I guess. here's a rearview shot:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jes got to witness firsthand how I physically cannot shut up during a hockey game (I regret to inform you all that I am the "talking to the players/the universe in a desperate plea for good bounces" sort of fan), and was also witness to me laughing hysterically, truly like a madwoman, when the two kraken goals were called back. jes has a better recap of the game, but I can just say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I have seen much more embarrassing defeats at the hands of much less entertaining teams, so I was ready to bear that cross.
that being said, there was a drunk kraken fan the row ahead of us who was verbally harassing a penguins fan in his row. he was yelling at him, trying to get his attention by calling him "letang" (the jersey the pens fan was wearing), and even threw the free giveaway hat at him to try and get his attention. mr. not-letang very smartly sat still and refused to look over. I was disappointed at that behavior and also really displeased that the drunk fan's friend didn't do jack shit to stop his behavior... but that's drunk people for you, I guess!
anyways when the kraken scored the (first) empty netter I turned to jes and said we should blow this popsicle stand. and that we did lol. I regret none of it! pens you suck and I love you so dearly <3
the next day I tearfully said goodbye to my new best friend, ruthie, and then maybe waved at jes idk who cares (I'm joking, we—after very extensive fanfic brainstorming sessions in the car to and from brunch—expressed SO EARNESTLY and HEARTFELT-LY how much we enjoyed the trip, as we were both so determined to Get A Good Grade In Visiting Fandom Friends, Something Normal To Want And Possible To Achieve).
and then I got to see my aunt and uncle! they moved out there for the tech boom back in the 90s and have been there ever since. they're incredibly cool and we talked SO much
(something else I've learned about myself as an adult: I talk way too fucking much. I thought it was bad when I had an in-person job, and now that I do WFH it's literally like I'm being paid by the word I speak. big kudos to anyone who's withstood being near me for longer than an hour).
my aunt took me on a hike and we got to see old-growth forest AND a lake AND the skyline, which was so sick
Tumblr media
talking with her was incredible. she's a very interesting person and a complete city-slicker and is... kind of eerily like me? like I saw a lot of similarities between her and I as we talked and interacted with my uncle. we have similar communication styles and I see myself a bit in her. something that's heartening to me is that she's, like... in her late 50s and childless and so youthful and full of attack attack go go go energy and has the same ruthless desire to UNDERSTAND and BE UNDERSTOOD that I do, and I liked talking with her. she's so receptive to youth culture and to aspects of things she doesn't understand in her quest to understand them, and it makes for such engaging conversation.
my uncle, too, is really neat. I like him so much, and I wish I knew more about him? my dad is so reticent about his family sometimes, and I'm still so desperately trying to tease out the full story of what growing up in that family was like (for longtime followers, this is my uncle who got written out of my grandma's will). he has great energy and is pretty chill (and was literally recovering from intense hip surgery while I was there, he's such a champ haha) and I wish I could see him and my dad interact more. why did all my dad's brothers have to scatter across this country??
he found me interesting, I could tell, and that was really validating and nice. we had awesome conversations about how I got into hockey (my aunt is super, like... 2nd-wave-y feminist and does not get my hockey love due to the sport's chauvinism) and also how I found community online. my aunt is a writer in her free time and hasn't ever really been able to find her niche online and really wanted my input about how I'd been able to befriend people across the country, and world, online.
that too was really validating and cool. I've always sort of put myself down about not having as many IRL friends, but seeing it through their eyes sort of helped me shift my mindset. I DO have amazing friends! they're close mentally if not physically! and they lead to amazing things! they were so jazzed about me hosting friends from all over the country who'd come to visit me in the name of hockey. while I get all whiny about not having enough people to do stuff with locally, my aunt was like "you have friends WHERE?" and they were so into it. they loved that I had worldwide friends and was finding connection wherever I went. it was great.
also we saw jesus at a grocery store. yes, it was halloween, but it was a funny encounter. he was in the produce section.
then we went to a WATERFALL that was TERRIFYING IN ITS SCALE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this thing was incredible and man... man... I need to go back. I have to. I always thought as a kid that I'd end up moving out west. even before my twilight phase got me fully obsessed with washington, I loved the look and nature and majesty of the PNW. since the first time I visited there, I knew something about that area spoke to me.
and it was so, so cool to reconnect with that after over a decade away. when I was there I felt like a sort of... idealized version of myself. like that version was within reach. that I could become a really cool version of myself if I lived there. an alternate path, you know?
maybe the PNW is in my future. it could be. I always thought it would be as a kid. funnily enough, a hockey team got in the way and sent me east instead, but like I always say... I don't know if pittsburgh is forever! I want to live a grand adventure, and I want to live many places, and maybe one day I wind up there for a spell.
Tumblr media
there's just something about that part of the country. something about me when I'm there.
this was such a good vacation. it was short, but it was honestly practically idyllic. I will be back. hopefully soon. there is so much unexplored... I want to devour that state over a summer one day.
people are great. friends are great. family is great. nature is great. life is good.

can you do some headcanons on what it would be like to be Jordan and Olivia (all American)’s sister and to be a teen mom and to just be part of the whole vortex friend group? Loved ur Layla headcanons <33 Sorry this is hella specific and worded weird 😭 English is not my first language
BAKER SIBLINGS x3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: glad you enjoyed them! + Your English is just fine👌🏾💜 & this ended up being a little more focused on Ada’s relationship with the twins actually and their childhood 😅 + I also was unsure how to end it, which I’m sure you’ll be able to tell once you get to the bottom lol.
WARNINGS: some possible triggering subject matters related to ED are mentioned somewhere down below. + GIF SEARCH IS ALWAYS DONE BY GOOGLE & BELONGS TO: @bakerolivia

Ada Baker, also know as little Baker would be the baby sibling to the baker twins ofc.
Two years behind to be exact.
Current age as of season 5: 17/18? —Since the writers never have a consistent timeline/time frame— but it’s been brought to my attention due to the one of the episodes that Jordan is 19 so Olivia is also 19.
They’re both born in April, making them Aries babies
Two year old Jordan was not thrilled having another sister, which Laura and Billy found funny considering how close he ended up being to Ada.
Back then? They heavily got on each other’s nerves.
Ada is a cancer (born in late June) and although reserved/Stand off-ish to some, her closest friends and family know just how goofy she is just like the baker’s all can be.
She snorts when she laughs for one.
She’s also the first one to break out into dance moves with their dad Billy once he gets into his two-step routine or soul train moves, regardless of who’s watching, she loves laughing and dancing with that bald headed man.
Quiet yet sweet and temperamental all wrapped in one. First they’re sour, then they’re sweet—is definitely Ada!
The youngest sib is actually the most protective imo—she’ll throw hands for any of her sibs and will insert herself into any of their fights if need be.
Most of the time she’s open to seeing different perspectives but all hats are off when it goes to those that start shit with her big brother and sister.
Jordan and Ada are the fighters whereas Liv is more so on the verbal part, the girl is slick with her words but don’t underestimate—Liv has a mean uppercut and back hand. Have you seen those long arms?!
Was the “chubby” sibling growing up so lots of bullying was going on and kids also liked to pick on her freckles? How dumb! which resulted in fights and a few suspensions or detentions—older baker’s included.
Ada never had a reason to experience body dysmorphia (even when her own grandmother would make shady comments to Laura when they visited her for the weekend) until other kids started making it a big deal.
She hit puberty early and the immaturity seemed to only increase due to being top heavy and not shaped so thinly like her mother or older sister.
Lots of depression, anger, wearing baggy clothing, and limiting their food intake became a thing during her middle school years and she became the first out of the family to seek therapy.
Billy didn’t think it was necessary, feeling that his daughter should just talk to him, his wife, or her siblings as the answer. It took some convincing and it wasn’t until Billy picked up on some unhealthy habits—like barely eating, purging, fainting from lack of nutrients, and seeing her constantly step on the scale three x a day, did he finally come around.
Then she took up kick-boxing which helped a lot along with her hobby of creating her own coraline inspired dolls and obsession with stop motion animation films.
She wasn’t as athletic as Jordan and she remembered being forced to attend dance classes as a kid with Liv but it ultimately wasn’t her thing.
Ofc sports were encouraged in the baker household and softball was a thing for awhile before kickboxing, “but you’re excellent at softball why would you want to give it up?” Billy asked an eight year old Ada who just shrugged her shoulders in the backseat after a game, “it’s boring daddy and I don’t want to do it anymore.” He was always softhearted for his baby girls so he didn’t pushed it but he became even more excited when Ada picked up kickboxing—not for the reason behind it though!
Ada’s kicks were insane!
“Ada, What’s the most rebellious thing you’ve ever done?” Olivia asked while the siblings decided to do a sibling tag for Liv’s Instagram.
The twins awaited Ada’s answer as she sat in between them and snorted, “probably get pregnant.”
Olivia nodded her head with her lips pushed out, lightly laughing as she returned her attention back to her phone, “Oop.”
“Well that’s all folks.” Jordan gave a two finger salute while Ada shrugged at the camera, a smirk on her lips.
It’s not like she purposely went out and got pregnant at fifteen but it was the first thing that came to mind—although there was probably a small list—she can be straight forward sometimes.
She went to Liv first with this huge secret, wanting her big sis to be there with her while she took the two tests from her Tongan boyfriend, who sneakily stole one from his older sister and bought the other.
“You better not be pranking me, Ada. This is serious.” Liv paced the floor while Ada was in the bathroom, tending to business.
“Why would I joke about this? You saw how much I was shaking when I told you.”
Liv sighed, knowing she was right. She was shocked that Ada even thought this was a possibility, eyes wide and almost gagging at the image of her sister being involved with her annoying jock boyfriend who didn’t even look sixteen.
But she also felt pride that Ada came to her first about this whole ordeal. The baker family was slowly getting better at paying more attention to each other and communicating so this actually means a lot that Ada trusted Liv with this secret.
With Liv reading the two pink lines for her and the second almost screaming: pregnant. she held onto her baby sister who fell into tears over this new change of direction her life was about to unfold.
Laura was told next before Ada’s bf at the time and Laura had the same reaction as liv: wide eyes and mouth agape before she rounded off questions: “how could you be so irresponsible? You’re only a child yourself! We’re making you an appointment first thing tomorrow morning to see how far along you are and your best options!”
Laura was just as upset as Ada but it was evident the girl was scared at the mere fact that she was having a child and that her family would probably disown her. Laura could see it in her child’s low-set damp eyes and with the way Liv was trying to be a mediator, she sighed trying to collect her thoughts, calming down.
Eventually Laura squeezed Ada to her chest, telling her that everything will be figured out and not to speak a word of it to her father until after the appointment.
Jordan found out anyways since her bf blurted it out one night when they ran into each other at this restaurant and Jordan roughed the younger boy up a bit for even “joking” about his sister like that before it was broken up.
Jordan invaded Ada’s privacy, going through her room to get some answers and when he did… he never could keep a secret—he brought it right to their father.
Billy and Jordan were heavily disappointed and said some very hurtful things that Laura immediately stepped in, her mommy bear instincts firing off at the two men in the house. “What’s the matter with you two? This is your daughter, your sister! To think what the both of you said to her was even remotely okay, tells me you don’t respect her as a person and I won’t stand for either of you speaking to her like that!”
Ada gave them both the silent treatment for a month until a sit down was demanded by Laura and Liv.
Apologies were made and life went on but that didn’t mean the wound wasn’t still there.
Ada rarely forgot much.
To be pregnant by your first love changed everything for Ada Baker. To have a bf so supportive, more supportive than her own father and brother meant a lot and she swore she was going to be with this guy forever.
Until he moved back to New Zealand, finding it selfish that her bf’s family just up and left knowing he had a child.
Which made things even harder for Ada. Juggling school—the gossip and the work load, the absence of her bf in raising their child together, simply being a teen mom was extremely hard, the change of her body after birth, she thought about old habits until she looked into the replica of her own hooded eyes that she handed down to her child, reminding Ada that she had to be better for her.
Everyday was a daily struggle but one thing is extremely true: Ada loved her daughter, dearly.
The little girl easily gained the number one spot for “best friend”
She loved having matching outfits with her and socializing with her who easily babbled back before she really learned how to speak.
Although Ada’s teenage years changed because of her daughter, she couldn’t imagine what it would be like without her vocal, smart, and active child.
It got a smidge easier as Ada’s baby got older, allowing her to spend more time with the vortex and her own set of friends. She became less needy but still adored Ada just the same.
There’s no other way to describe a child running up to you to give you the biggest hug after a long day 🥹
Attending high school, homework, work, and tending to a two year old before and after—majority of the time depending what time Ada got off. She was super thankful that Mama Laura stepped in most of the time along with the vortex. Ask her how she does it? Barely.
She gets frustrated with her child’s father since he’s not physically here to help and a FaceTime can only do so much.
I feel like the vortex wouldn’t exclude Ada as much as they got older. They’ve all been friends since childhood and she was always viewed as, “Little Bunny Baker” or simply “Little baker.”
The bunny stood for: Ada’s obsession with bunnies back when she was in elementary school.
The bakers never got into owning a cat or a dog. It was always a hamster or a fish since the family was usually always on the go.
Which resulted in Jordan accidentally k*lling Ada’s pet Bunny, leaving it outside in its cage during a heatwave in the hills while they were heading to the Grand Canyon one summer.
Ada would have done it herself and sure it was her responsibility but being rushed out of the house with a father like billy at the crack of dawn—Billy, Liv, and Ada left for the airport early to catch a morning flight since Laura couldn’t get off work until the afternoon and would be taking the evening flight with Jordan
Ada begged jordan on the phone to do it for her as they made it to the airport and Jordan said he would
Laura double checked with Jordan before they were also rushing out of the house to their car service and Jordan swore he did…
Until they came back and you can guess what was left for Ada there.
That was the last time she ever forgot to do something. Shout-out to childhood trauma!
anyways it wasn’t necessarily anything personal with the vortex, it’s just that she was a little young and they were older and they were the “cooler.” She was just kinda “weird” kid with glasses and freckles who wasn’t into what other kids were into. You know how that goes as the younger sibling…
JJ was probably the only one that didn’t make Ada feel some type of way as a kid. Always the big heart that one and Ada would be lying if she said a teeny crush wasn’t formed—back then!
Layla was sorta nice too, being Olivia’s glamorous best friend and all but Ada didn’t miss how they gossiped about her sometimes when Ada left the room—which resulted in Ada calling Liv out on it.
The screaming matches between those two growing up? It makes complete sense why Ada’s daughter has a set of strong vocal cords on her.
But hey that was all childhood stuff! As they got older, there was no need for the excluding of Ada Baker. She was just as much family as Jordan and Olivia.
If she’s down to party, she’s hitting up JJ and knows how to have a good time but knows her limit. Full on compliments from the long haired blond whenever he see’s her and he may or may not get a dance with her. “C’mon! None of that I don’t dance, crap!” “Okay, JJ! Just keep your hands where I can see them.” “Forsure! I’m a total gentleman, just ask all my lady lovers.” “This is where I leave you.” “Awww c’mon! I’m just giving a reference!”
She wasn’t the closest with asher, even when he dated Liv after Layla. She honestly didn’t approve of the relationship but Liv wasn’t trying to hear that. They actually shared some words here and there but now? They speak to each other much calmer now that he’s having a baby and is full of questions. Ada’s actually befriended Jaimee/Jaymee quite easily and Asher just wanted to get along with everyone that was cool with his gf.
Asher is the one constantly asking questions whereas Jaimee just tends to go with the flow. He’ll even text Ada at odd hours asking questions just to be hit with, “Asher, it’s midnight. Go to bed or I’ll cancel your ass again.” “Okay but before you consider doing that! What does colic mean again?” “Sorry but…Google is free.” “Who needs google when I have the real thing here?” “👋🏽” “hello?”
I’d say she’s probably closest with Jaimee and maybe Patience. They’re usually the two she’s hanging out with while the rest of the vortex maybe busy and if she isn’t dragged to hang with Jordayla (mostly by the request of Layla) and Liv or isn’t hanging out with her daughter or her own group tbh.
How does she feel about jordayla? It wasn’t much of a shock to her (or anyone) that this was a thing. Everyone knew and they failed so horribly to “hide it.”
They were all in each other’s faces like no one else was in the room at the baker’s household
“Well this is disturbing.” Ada mumbled to her mom, popping a zucchini slice in her mouth while she bounced her giggling daughter on one hip. Which earned a shush from Laura and a cackle from Liv.
Overall she may shit-talk the relationship but she’s happy that her brother found true love again after Simone and she definitely drags Jordan for proposing but is all smiles when Layla actually asks her to be a bridesmaid with a gift way down the line.
She’s a spelivia shipper, always rooting for them and she was always fond of Spencer the more he came around…kinda liking the idea that he may have biologically been a brother. Ada wouldn’t have minded another brother and Spencer seemed to become that regardless of blood and she liked how he always looked out for everyone (a gift and a curse!), especially Liv.
With Spencer came coop and just like Asher, Ada also had her ups and downs in their friendship but most of the time they got along and kinda had to since they all lived together.
Ada Baker is ultimately type 4, “the individualist,”(“Fours want to be unique and to experience deep, authentic emotions. Type Fours fear they are flawed and are overly focused on how they are different from other people”) when it comes to the vortex and basically life.

PGY-3
Okay! Here’s that previously hinted at update (month by month) of my third year of residency! Sorry not sorry it’s so long!
July: Became a third year! Got to do a bunch of OB! GOT TO DO MY FIRST C-SECTION AS A PRIMARY! Applied to a million fellowships. Met a boy...
August: Whirlwind romance. That’s legit all I remember from this month. I know I was also on inpatient but that was kinda background noise to the personal growth I was going through (and it was growth...shout out to my fave podcast, Girls Gotta Eat!).
September: Went to my best friend’s wedding and got blindsided by the boy breaking up with me (though I guess now I can say I’ve had a true summer fling) and did a bunch of fellowship interviews. And I’m sure I also went to work at some point...
October: Peds ED month. Still hate the ED. Had my sister come visit for a weekend with an amazing fall themed photoshoot. By the end of the month I would say it had become clear that I wasn’t going to be getting any fellowships. It was really tough to feel like the one thing I’d been working on for the last three years wasn’t going to come to fruition. I cried a lot. I thought a lot about what to do instead. I talked with a lot of mentors about where to go from here.
November: Applied for dream job. Literally the job that I feel that I have been working towards ever since I decided I wanted to do family medicine. And they were really excited about me!
December: Another inpatient month. Interviewed at dream job. Started to realize it may not be as good of a fit as I was hoping. Went home for Christmas. Worked NYE and delivered the first new years baby of 2022!
January: Started looking at other possible jobs. Became increasingly frustrated day by day with the recruiter associated with dream job. Found a really random opportunity in the middle of nowhere in a state I never thought I’d move to that would teach me how to do c-sections. Went to interview there. FELL IN LOVE. New dream job. Conflicted, conflicted, conflicted over what to do. Also reconnected with old attending from med school and applied to work at his clinic as well.
February: I ACCEPTED A JOB!!!!! After weeks of deliberation I went with NEW DREAM JOB IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE BECAUSE IT FELT RIGHT! In the end I’m going to do full spectrum family medicine in a rural town at a critical access hospital with mostly outpatient, some inpatient medicine and peds and a ton of OB and on top of it all I’m going to learn how to do c-sections. And also make a fuck ton of money. Like an insane amount. Like crazy bonkers amount. Like they def made a mistake but it’s too late now.
March: Studied for boards and studied some more and shit hit the fan multiple times in terms of people calling out from work (at one point we had seven people out at once...we’d run out of people to cover things) and one time I got woken up at 1:30 am for one of these call out issues and after that I fled to Florida to...study some more!
April: ugh. worst month ever.
As a fun backdrop, I was on our inpatient service this month. We had some really really sick people and some very difficult people who kept leaving the hospital on us despite continuing to also keep coming back and some really sad people who literally had nowhere to go.
The first weekend of the month my cat died. It was sudden and unexpected. I was (still am) completely torn up about it. She was my companion throughout all of COVID. Even though she was getting old, I still thought I’d be bringing her on my next adventure with me. Every time I open my apartment door and she isn’t there to great me I die a little inside.
Less than twelve hours later...my residency best friend’s dad died. It was sudden and unexpected. She called me while I was still in bed listening to grand rounds on a Monday morning. Sobbing. The next week was a complete blur. Mostly the two of us just sitting in grief together.
I took boards. (OH YEAH...in the middle of all this I was still studying for boards!) Once they were behind me I thought that everything would get better. I even had a vacation lined up the first week of May to fully decompress and relax.
Then I got COVID. Guys, I know it is hard to believe but I had not gotten COVID yet. Not even like an asymptomatic carrier. I tested weekly this winter and never had a positive result. When I saw the positive last weekend I broke down. I was terrified about how it would affect me, devastated about not being able to finish my month up with the team or go on my much much MUCH NEEDED vacation, guilty about maybe exposing others, and just feeling so terrible all around. In the end, it hasn’t been that bad physically, but mentally it has really been difficult. I feel even more scared about going out in the world (after being super cautious for so long and not even doing much of anything the week before and still getting COVID??? How could I ever go back to normal again?) and just unimaginable shame about actually getting sick. All stuff that I know is just not actually based in reality...but I feel it nonetheless.
And soooo here we are! I cancelled my actual vacation and am now finishing up my quarantine at my parents house and then probably going to go to attending town (eek!) to look at houses (EEEK!) at the end of next week. Not all is lost. But it was a pretty shitty month.
Oh...but I did pass boards :)

Hey!💜
I guess I just hate days like today. Such days when my father is very drunk, because he's always drunk.
However, in a day like this, I keep listening for any potential argument. I am afraid that it may end up in physical violence, like in June, a year ago. At that time my mother pushed my father so much that he smashed his stupid head. However, she acted in self-defense,as he was the one who started to shake her.
I remember my nervousness. At the time I called my younger brother to come over, because he was staying at his girlfriend's house that night.
After that, I was a ball of nerves for many months. I was constantly on the lookout for a similar argument. I hated the days when my brother spent the night at his girlfriend's house. My spasticity was at an extreme level. E was surprised at how tight my muscles were.
💮💮💮💮
Today, my father yelled at my mother because supposedly my mother told my brother's girlfriend some lies. However, my mother has deduced that my father didn't hear anything, he just doesn't like my brother's girlfriend and it pisses him off that my mother is talking to her at all. He then shouted that mom should not talk to her. And I started screaming.
I never know how to react normally to my parents' quarrels. I either scream like a possessed person or sit quietly with headphones on my head. Today I screamed so much that I felt a huge spasticity in my legs. E or K will have something to loosen up.
I'm very ashamed of my screaming, but it is out of control and I don't quite know why I do it.
And I hate weekends especially because my mother drinks then too.
💮💮💮💮
My mother went to visit my grandmother with my older brother and his wife. They talked about selling the farm and renovating my grandmother's house,so that I would move in there in a while with my mother. Mom seems to have forgotten that in the future I want to move to a center for the disabled that will be built in two years in a nearby town, but never mind.
My aunts (my mother's sisters)don't agree. They would rather my grandmother buy an apartment in town and split the money between my mother and her siblings. Grandma wants to think about all this.
At home, my mother argued with my younger brother. He stated that no one thinks about him, because no one has even thought about a room for him in grandma's house after a possible renovation.
They argued strongly with my mother, especially since my mother was already slightly drunk.
In the end, however, they came to the conclusion that they misunderstood each other.
At least when I was at J and A's physical therapy camps I was able to get a bit of a break from the atmosphere of eternal arguments. That's one of the reasons why I feel like they abandoned me.
💮💮💮💮
The only thing I got to do today was to read a new book. The book is about Laura, a girl in the last year of high school, who was abandoned by her parents, first by her father and then, under the pretext of economic emigration,by her mother.
The girl lives with her grandmother. When Laura has her life arranged,a friend and a boyfriend, her mother returns to her life....
Despite the fact that the book is almost three hundred pages, I read most of the book today. I only have about fifty pages left for tomorrow. I think I will finish this book by the time B comes.
I read a little on the terrace, but mostly at home.
Seemingly today is still warm, but it feels like colder days are coming.
💮💮💮💮
I am finishing for today. I don't have an idea for any deeper thoughts like yesterday.
My head hurts.
As a reward, I will eat a Kinder chocolate and drink a Pepsi.🎀
I can't wait for Monday.🩷

Going from talking to one sister to talking to the other, I never have any fucking idea what's going on. They each view the same situation completely differently, and I think their communication problem is actually reading and comprehending each other's written communication.
Anyway, I slept weird this weekend and I think my cats woke me up around five this morning because I didn't put Pickles in his carrier. I have to put him away, because otherwise, either he'll spend all night antagonizing Scooter or, especially if it's dark, crying. Either way. But I was exhausted AND stoned af and it was my weekend, so I left the light on. My bad, I wanted to be woken at five in the morning.
So I watched like two episodes of the X Files while exhaustedly trying to negotiate peyote fringe. Gave up on that in favor of diamond painting while I got some lunch and made some food in advance for some other meal (it was supposed to be dinner, but who needs food when you could be having sleep!); went to sleep like, three hours early.
So far, I'm just addressing my stress points as they come up: What am I doing with the cats? My sister isn't going to make me visit my brother in Texas. What am I doing with the edibles currently in my possession? Again, I'm not going to Texas. What is my time off looking like? Again, I'm not going to Texas. What happens when I run out my supply of edibles? Well, hopefully by then, a) I've stashed some money to restock, and b) my friend and other sister both have recommendations.
Oh great, new point of anxiety: My sister has an abso-fucking-lute zoo--four cats, I think two rabbits, our other sister's dog. What the fuck is this?? And then she wants a fucking skunk or fox???
I'm giving up my lifestyle. I'm giving up New Mexico. I'm giving up Doordash. I'm giving up all the culinary options that are currently available to me. I'm giving up walking down the street in pretty much any direction and acquiring more edibles--edibles which have been keeping me at my job. I'm giving up my home. For, as far as I can tell, a potentially irresponsible investment in the first place.
I'm giving up a lot. On the dice roll of at least one better opportunity. I've already put forth my notice of non-renewal. That's it. I'm locked in to this.
And my sister isn't sacrificing much by comparison. It appears that she's continuing to hoard animals. I don't care if this is a five bedroom house. What the hell does one single woman need with five bedrooms?? What does a single woman need with four fucking cats and then some??
Have I made a horrible mistake? This house is in the fucking middle of abso-fucking-lutely no-fucking-where. It's a smaller town than where we grew up, which doesn't seem possible. Again, I am giving up my entire life style. Living in the mountains, in the southwest. I'm giving up everything that I've grown to love and appreciate. The weather, the flora, the views, my current freedom. My entire lifestyle. I'm giving up sushi on my terms. I'm giving up pho on my terms. I'm giving up on living by my terms, at least until I have my license.
And even when I do have my license, until I can come back here, I'm going to have to drive for ages to get anywhere--to a dispensary, to sushi, to coffee, grocery shopping, Doordash. I'm going to have to put up with my sister's animal hoarding??
I knew this move was going to be a bad idea, but it just keeps becoming an exponentially worse idea. I mean, at least if I'm away from temptations like Doordash, maybe I can focus on saving money for a vehicle. A car would really change the lifestyle I'm able to live here.
I'm hoping by moving to Wisconsin, I can scrounge up some other job opportunity than the one that I currently feel stuck in.
Maybe living with another person will open my sister's eyes to her problem? Maybe we'll still be able to get our other sister away from the problem she's stuck in.....
That's another thing I'm giving up. Even though I live smack in the middle of the city, it's peaceful. It's just me and my reasonable number of two cats. It isn't chaotic. I can't imagine adding four cats to the mix, each with their own varying personalities, will bring much peace. A dog? Other animals?? Foster children??? Actually, I really can't imagine that she'll be approved to foster.
I guess I'm just concerned. Well, I'm terrified. I'm terrified of leaving the mountains. This is where I was meant to be. Up. Surrounded by mountains. I'm terrified that I'm giving up my entire lifestyle and my sister is not going to respect that. I shouldn't have given my notice of non-renewal.
I live in easily one of the scariest cities one can live in. I live here alone. On the whole, I'm happy. I have a lifestyle that works for me, less the whole having a spouse, which idk.......maybe that's just not in the cards for me......
I'm going to go back and forth on this till the end of this month.....I guess maybe worst case scenario, maybe I just work on my license and getting a vehicle, and get back here? I thought I might stay at least a few years, but I'm concerned about being respected for the sacrifice I'm making. I think it's important for her to acknowledge, even though she's kind of helping me, I think she needs my help more, and I'm making the bigger sacrifice for probably the smaller return. I'm giving up my entire lifestyle, while she's getting a bigger house to fill with even more animals. She can do whatever she wants with her money, that's fine, whatever I guess.
Ugh, I don't feel like I'm making any progress in this. I'm just feeling more and more like this is a bad idea. I don't feel like she's respectful of the fact that it's not much, it's not glamorous or anything, but I have a life here. I have a whole lifestyle and I love it, it's perfect for me.
Maybe I'll stay for a year, maybe two. I honestly don't know how long I'll last, living in a zoo in the middle of nowhere. I don't get it. I would've been happy with one cat; I'm plenty happy that I have two, but I really do not actually want anymore, as much as I daydream occasionally about getting another pair of kittens.
I love the bond I have with my cats, and personally, I'm not sure I could offer that to many more animals. After all, I have things other than interacting with my pets and watching Netflix that are important to me.
Okay. This wasn't going to be a permanent arrangement in the first place. I am supposed to go and help my sister out with some of the costs of the house she took a mortgage out on. In the meantime, I'm supposed to use this opportunity to get my license and acquire a vehicle. I hate to admit, a vehicle would be very useful in living here. It wouldn't change a lot of my lifestyle, but it could change some things. I could get to parts of the area that I don't or wouldn't normally, and I could go to those places more often--such as after work.
Maybe having our other sister and our nieces would help balance me and my younger sister out. I just think my younger sister......I dunno.... I'm not sure what's going on in her head.....

So … I need to tell you a story about my cat, Ciel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was found by a friend of my sister, abandoned on the side of the road, so young and so small that at the time his eyes weren't even open. This person couldn't keep him, and eventually they asked me if I could. I was headed out of town for the weekend to visit a friend of mine who was working as a vet tech, so I ended up picking him up from them at a local pet store, buying a new carrier, bed, and supplies, and taking him to Atlanta with me. His eyes had opened just that day, and his ears were still closed. My friend helped me care for him, and taught me all about what a kitten that young needed. She even took a few feeding shifts for me those first few days.
When I bought him back home, my other cat was not happy at all. She was a bit over two years old, and since the new baby needed so much one on one care I couldn't give her all the attention she wanted, which made her resent him, which made it even harder to give her the love she needed. I'd gotten her from a friend whose cat had kittens, just shortly after she was weened, along with one of her litter-mates that I named Rabbit (I'd been told they were both boys, but surprise surprise, nope). Rabbit didn't make it, barely two months later he got sick and had to be put down, a fate that half their litter shared since they inherited something from their mother. But Al beat the odds. She made it, though I don't think she truly got over her brother. At least, she hadn't by the time this little ball of fluff showed up.
So for a few years, they didn't exactly get along. Ciel grew into this playful, sweet, clingy, wonderful cat, but Al did not want him to play or cuddle or cling to her. Thankfully they did end up bonding, and as adults they did still occasionally fuss at each other but on the whole acted like siblings. And as seniors they got even closer. I still worry a bit about Al when it comes to other cats, she's slow to warm up to others and likes her space.
Then, years ago but after he was considered a senior cat and after a completely different scare with Al that required surgery to remove a mass from her ear, Ciel suddenly got sick. He was losing weight and peeing in strange places and we didn't know why. The vet was quick to diagnose him with diabetes, and we had to learn to adapt. Thankfully he improved dramatically at a very rapid pace. I changed his diet completely, and between that and medication he eventually was able to get down to the lowest possible insulin dose. One unit once a day, practically unheard of but it's all he needs.
And that was our lives … until a few weeks ago. I noticed him acting oddly, and not eating his food quickly like he normally does (Al's a slow eater these days too, but it wasn't the same). I took him in and they said it was an abscess, his tooth needed to be pulled. And while they did the surgery they'd also take care of some glandular blister-like masses that he's had in his ears for years (which caused him to have repeated ear infections that I was used to giving him medicated drops for, the poor kitty always seemed to have the worst luck with health issues). He recovered well and for a few days I thought everything was going to be okay. He was still chewing at nothing a bit, but people told me he probably just needed time to get used to the lack of a tooth there. But it didn't get better. Over the week it got more pronounced, he started having more trouble eating, getting more mess spilled on his fur and not cleaning it up. And at his followup appointment today … they said it was probably a mass. That there was pressure behind his eye. That he'd lost a pound. That it was almost certainly cancer, and with him being a diabetic senior there was nothing they could do without causing more problems. After having gone through so much in his life, this was finally the one he couldn't overcome.
And that's where we are. I'm giving him the best that I can for what little time he has left. He's still eating, easier now with some pain meds. He's still playful. He's still my cuddly, affectionate cat. But I know it won't last, and when the scale tips I have to do what's best for him. No matter how much it breaks my heart. I've barely stopped crying since we got the news, even as I write all this down.
Some pets are special. Well, all pets are, but sometimes you find one that's … that's more than a pet. Sometimes, a person finds an animal who completely understands them, and who they completely understand in turn. Who is like a piece of them. Ciel has been my emotional support animal for fifteen years. He's helped calm me through anxiety attacks and depression lows. He has meant the world to me and still does. He has a part of my soul. And I'm losing him. And there's nothing I can do.
It must seem awful to say that he somehow means more than his sister, but that's not really what I'm trying to express. I love Al, she's my sweet old lady. And when her time is up I know that will break me too. But, Ciel is just … different. He has been the most affectionate, devoted, loyal, loving, attentive cat I've ever known let alone had. Al likes her space, she needs her alone time, she doesn't follow me around the house like Ciel does. Doesn't come to comfort me when I'm upset like he does, at least, not as much. Doesn't wait for me to finish dinner and then jump in my lap, head on my shoulder or tucked under my chin, paws up as if for a hug, like he does.
This cat is a part of me, a piece of my soul, and when I have to let him go it will take a chunk of my heart out. And I'm not quite sure how I'll keep going without him.
He can't be replaced. Not ever. But I know I can't just sit in this pain forever. It's the place he will leave behind that I can't even stand to think of. The void in my life. The empty space on the couch between Al and me. Even when he had to stay at the vet overnight for his surgery, I felt so lost without him there. He's my buddy, my buster, my little mr cat. My best friend. Ciel filled a space left far too empty for far too long after Rabbit passed away. Now it's going to be empty again. Just me and Al, and she's nearly 18 so I've known for years how little time she has left. I just thought she'd be the first of them to go. That I'd have a little time left with Ciel afterwards, to lean on each other in our grief, then to let him meet a new cat and give him a little sibling before it was his time. But things just didn't work out that way. Maybe it's the shock that's making the hurt so much worse.
So … that's who I am. That's who my cats are. The story of our time together.
I believe that the right one finds you. Ciel found me, right when we needed each other most. I think the next right one is out there. There's a kitten out there that needs someone like me. And I need someone like them. I don't know if I'll find them soon, or if will take months, but I need to look. For them, and for Al, and for me. And for Ciel.
Tumblr media
I wrote all that in the wake of his diagnosis. But, I didn't post it till today. Two weeks later. He held on for longer than they thought he would, and had many good days filled with cuddles and treats amidst the tears. He lasted long enough to comfort me when I got sick with a 24 hour flu, so feverish and weak I couldn't get out of bed. And there he was curled up on my lap, keeping me warm and safe.
Yesterday he wouldn't eat more than a bite or two even with treats. This morning too. He's ready to go, and no matter how it breaks me I can't let him get to the point where he's suffering. So he's spending the afternoon with me in bed again, curled up on my lap or on my chest. In a few hours we go to the vet for his last appointment. But until then, I'll keep him warm and safe.
Goodbye buddy. You've been the best cat in the whole world. I'll love you forever and always, my little man, my familiar, my best friend.

It may be Golden Globes today, but actor Nick Offerman is celebrating an Emmy win for his work on HBO drama The Last of Us’ beautiful gay storyline.
The apocalyptic drama is based on the beloved 2013 video game of the same name. The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who make a risky journey across the US 20 years after a deadly zombie-like virus ravaged the world.
On their travels, the two characters meet Bill (played by Nick Offerman), a lone, hardened survivor living in a heavily fortified town.
Bill is a gay man, and a single episode of The Last of Us flashes back to the tragic gay love story between Bill and his partner Frank, played by Aussie Murray Bartlett (both above).
At the Creative Arts Emmys at the weekend, Nick Offerman won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for playing Bill.
It was one of eight wins for The Last of Us, which also included Storm Reid for her guest work on the drama series.
Nick Offerman spoke about the Creative Arts Emmys win – and shared his acceptance speech – in a post on Twitter X.
He paid tribute to co-star Murray Bartlet, his “magnificently generous partner and rightly lauded Aussie top man, the Girth from Perth.”
“It’s hard to fully swallow because the role was in an inseparable partnership with the magnificent #MurrayBartlett,” Nick wrote.
“So I wish they had 2 trophies to give. Without Frank, Bill ain’t s__t.”
Friends, I was fortunate enough to receive a very nice winged Emmy accolade figurine last night for my work as Bill in @TheLastofUsHBO written by the indomitable @clmazin It’s hard to fully swallow because the role was in an inseparable partnership with the magnificent… pic.twitter.com/caXUZ6pcPP
— Nick Offerman (@Nick_Offerman) January 7, 2024
In his speech, Nick Offerman also paid tribute to the “astonishing band of artists” collaborating on The Last of Us.
“We would all just be standing around with our thumbs in our asses if Craig Mazin has not written this script,” Nick said.
“This was the best script I’ve ever been handed. If you enjoy what we do then it’s always and only because the writing is so good.”
Before the show premiered, Murray Bartlett also said the script was “one of the best hours of television I’ve ever read”.
Nick Offerman would love to bring Bill back
HBO announced last year that The Last of Us will return for a second season.
At the Creative Arts Emmys, Deadline asked Nick the obligatory question about Bill and Frank’s possible return in future seasons.
Nick said he’d love to return but “would have to ask somebody with a higher pay grade than myself.”
“It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We’re not short on ideas. We’ll just we’ll see what Craig [Mazin] and [executive producer Neil Druckmann] come up with,” Nick joked.
“I was lucky [to get cast] this time. They needed a guy who could use a shovel. Three of us in Hollywood, Harrison Ford passed and Jane Lynch was not available.”
The Last of Us is streaming in Australia on Binge.

29 of 2022
If you’re pale, do you get made fun of for it?:
Not much, people in my country have a habit of laughing at people behind their back, so.
Are you white/black/asian/mexican/etc?:
I’m white and I have ancestry across half of Europe.
How old are your parents?:
My mum is 59 and my dad is 69.
Did your family move to America from another country?:
My family has never moved to America at all, none of us has ever been in the US and we have nothing to do with the US whatsoever.
Have you ever been to any other countries? If so, where and for how long?:
Yeah, two daily trips to France, several daily trips to the Netherlands, a weekend in Germany, a weekend in Denmark and several trips to Poland. I’ve travelled quite a bit through Belgium, too.
Ever been to Washington D.C.? Did you get to meet the president of the time?:
Never been to the US at all.
Have you seen Fahrenheit 9/11?:
I don’t even know what it is.
Ever been to NYC Or LA? If so, how were your experiences there?:
I’ve been to neither, but if I really was about to visit United States, I’d choose either of them.
Ever known anyone who did business with a prostitute?:
Sure, but I don’t question the decisions my friends make. It’s a free country.
Are your real parents divorced? If your parents are divorced, how old are your step parents? Do you like your step parents, or are they assholes?:
My parents have been married for over 30 years and still are.
Were you adopted? If so, have you met your biological parents? How about biological siblings or grandparents?:
I’m not adopted, and neither is my sister.
Ever had an abusive parent or other family member? If so, what’s the worst they did?:
Yeah, my mum was pretty emotionally abusive.
Got any step siblings? If so, how many? Are they annoying or cool?:
No, I only have one full sibling.
Are either of your parents engaged but not married yet?:
No, they’re married to each other.
Do you think it’s silly for grown adults to still be dating around?:
I couldn’t care less, everyone is responsible for themselves and their choices. I don’t judge people.
Ever walked in on your parents while they were getting busy? If so, how many times and how old were you?:
Nope, I’ve never walked in on my parents doing anything together.
How many siblings do you have? How old are they, and what are their names? Do they have the same hair color and eye color as you?:
I have one sister, Julie. She’s 27 and looks nothing like me, she’s an average height for a woman and a grey-eyed blonde.
Do you like older or younger siblings better?:
I have only one sister and she’s younger, but we’ve always been close. I’ve always wanted to have an older brother, though.
Ever had to take care of a baby sibling? If do, did you feel responsible, or were you just annoyed?:
Not really take care as the age gap between us is only 5 years, but I remember being proud of having a little sister and I always wanted to push her stroller when we were going for a walk.
Do you like children, or do they piss you off?:
I do like children, although I can’t imagine myself being a father, and definitely not to my biological children. I’m fine being a stepdad or an uncle, though. I prefer toddlers to babies, too.
Think you’ll ever have kids of your own one day?:
I’m definitely not planning on that.
Have you ever had a close friend get knocked up early?:
...is it a some sort of American expression? I don’t get it.
Have you yourself ever gotten close to getting pregnant?:
I’m a male, I don’t think it’s possible from the biological point of view.
Do you know if anyone in your family ever got knocked up as a teen?:
Are we still talking about pregnancy?
Do you prefer baby boys or baby girls?:
A child is a child, regardless their sex. Besides, they might identify as non-binary when they grow up.
Know anyone your age who sucks on a pacifier for fun?:
I don’t know what my friends are doing when no one is watching.
Enough about babies; what’s your favorite color? Own anything special that’s your favorite color?:
Yeah, it’s black and almost everything I own is black.
Do you prefer black or white?:
Black, but I would pull off some white on occasion, too.
Do you have a favorite number? What is it?:
It’s 16, for no particular reason.
Do you have a favorite letter?:
J., as my name and my sister’s name start with this letter.
Are you one of those losers that buys things with the letter of your name?:
Does anyone ever do that? Besides, calling someone a loser because of their preferences is low, really.
Do you label people at school based on their appearance?:
I’m in my 30s, hello. And even when I was in school, I didn’t like labels either.

I am begging. BEGGING everyone to get vaccinated if you can, and to reduce your social contacts, and
My healthy, vaccinated, 24-year-old sister who very rarely gets sick at all caught Covid and now she is MISERABLE. She has a fever, possibly a spine infection, hardly hears on one ear, a headache, a nosebleed, and is cold all the time (the woman usually wear shorts in winter sometimes) and sick enough to almost throw up.
She meets like two or three people anymore except for at work, she's vaccinated, and STILL she got sick, and badly, because some people put other people's health and safety over their own personal convenience.
If you can get vaccinated and tested at least semi-regularly and you don't, why don't you just piss off and lock yourself in at home instead of endangering others and being responsible for their sickness, possible long-term effects, or deaths. Why don't you fuck off and don't endanger all of us who still restrict our everyday lives and try to protect others and be compassionate.
#seriously fuck all the companies and schools/unis I've heard of in the last few days that will not let you work from home unless you are#officially quarantined or sick even if you've had contact with someone infected#also at this point fuck everyone who can get vaccinated and doesn't#and everyone who still meets twenty people a day if they have the option of yk not doing that#also an extremely big fuck you to my aunt and my cousin#TURNS OUT. my aunt was positive. she knew that. my cousin knew that. and STILL they let the kids visit the aunt/their grandmother#and THEN still let the kids visit my sister and other cousin at their apartment and DIDN'T TELL THEM#so now they're both infected and sick although the cousin luckily 'just' has a headache#and two other friends of my sister who visited her at the weekend are possibly also infected#one of them is a fucking idiot and still goes to uni with many many people in the classroom#anyway they were there saturday. the infected kids were there friday. so if my aunt and cousin had just TOLD my sister + other cousin#that the aunt was infected and the kids had been there#AND HAD NOT SENT THE KIDS *WHO ALREADY HAD TESTED POSITIVE* there then all this bullshit would not have happened#in conclusion: fuck anti-vaxxers and people knowingly endangering others and those who put their own comfort and convenience#over the safety of idk neighbors friends classmates work colleagues the entire country and world#also that friend of who the pandemic really didn't bring out the best in her#covid-19#upset rant noises#and very fuck you rant noises#mine#seriously if you refuse to get vaccinated and get sick i hope you're miserable#absolutely miserable but not bad enough to take up icu beds who are needed for people with heart attacks etc etc#i hope you're miserable and regret not getting vaccinated and that you'll feel the effects for a long long time#also if you end up in the icu and someone who is vaccinated and also needs a bed and there's none left anymore: fuck you#you can give up your bed for someone who tried not to get sick. you can die for all i care#<< this is all about people who COULD get vaccinated but don't#obviously not directed at people who can't get vaccinated#but if you can and don't: fuck you deeply and you deserve everything bad that's coming for you#no one @ me that you shouldn't wish bad things upon people i don't care anymore#the vaccines have been out for three quarters of a year if you still refuse to get informed and get if you can choke for all i care

Even Though We May Be Hopeless Hearts Just Passing Through, I Was Made For Loving You PT. 1
Batsis x Kyle Rayner
Word Count: 2.1K Warnings: Explicit Language
Author's Note: I realize the other story didn't follow the whole, dating the brother's best friend trope, so I decided to remedy it. And what do you get when you cross a hopeless romantic with someone who's new to love? Perfection. That's what. Enjoy! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
Saturday mornings, in Dick’s opinion, were meant for sleeping in and quite possibly going to IHOP when everyone finally crawled out of bed at ten. They were not meant for being shoved in the side by a little brother.
“Golden-boy,” a voice grouched from beneath the bedside. “Your phone’s been going off for an hour. Either put it on silent or answer the goddamn thing.”
Dick let out a tired ‘pfft’, rolling onto his stomach, face buried in the side of the bed as he looked down to the floor. “Annoyed much, Little-wing?”
“I am going to shove that phone so far up your—”
Reaching over, Dick put the phone to his ear. “Hello?”
Where are you?
“Still in bed,” he responded, sentence ending in a groan as he stretched. “Why?”
You were supposed to be on the flight back to Gotham two hours ago.
Dick’s eyes went wide, and he sat up, gaping at the bedside clock. “It’s today.”
It is today. I can’t believe you forgot it was today.
“Oh my God, it’s today and we missed our flight.” He stumbled out of the bed, barely registering the shout from Jason as his foot landed in his brother’s stomach. “Jason, get up! It’s today!’
“What’s today?” his little brother griped, rubbing his abdomen.
“(Y/N)’s coming back!”
Jason’s eyes went wide, and he scrambled to his feet, hurriedly finding his bag to change out of his nightclothes. “Christ, I can’t believe we forgot that (Y/N) was coming home today!” he looked at Dick. “This is your fault.”
“My fault?” Dick yelped. “How is this my fault!”
He scowled. “Big brother wanted everyone to be with a sibling for the night, so they’d be together and be punctual but you and I both know neither of us have any concept of time.” His scowl grew. “I knew I should’ve bunked with Cass. She’s on time no matter what happens.”
Dick threw Jason’s sweatshirt at him. “Dress now, bitch later.” He put the phone back to his ear. “We missed our flight, but we can drive there.”
Your car’s in the shop.
“Shit,” he hissed, spinning in a circle to help his brain circuit enough to think of something new. “Uh-uh-uh—”
“Kyle!” Jason shouted, pointing at him. “Kyle’s like thirty minutes away from Manhattan! We’ll go to him for a ride!”
Dick grinned. “We’ll find Kyle.”
You sure Kyle’s at home?
“Pfft, Kyle’s always home on the weekends. He’s lazy.”
Just get here. (Y/N)’s plane is going to land in less than four hours.
“We’ll be there,” he said. “Is Diana coming too?”
Of course. She is (Y/N)’s mother.
“Nice. Alright, see you in Gotham, Bruce.”
Love you boys. And be careful. I’ve already heard that Cass, Tim, and Steph got into a fender-bender with Damian and Duke.
Dick blinked. “They’re…they’re legitimately driving separate cars? How’d they hit each other?”
Don’t ask.
The line went dead, and Dick looked at his brother. “Ready?”
Jason nodded. “Already got an Uber to Kyle’s place.”
“We could always just Uber to Gotham?” he offered, and Jason recoiled with a shocked look.
“And pay a ridiculous amount of money instead of just paying Kyle’s gas? Fuck no, big brother.” He shoved his wallet and keys into his pockets. “C’mon!” he chirped, rather excitedly. “Our baby sister’s coming home!”
***
When he swung the door open to yell at whoever was pounding on it, he wasn’t expecting to see two of his best friends grinning like idiots. “Wha—”
He’d barely gotten a word out when Jason shoved a bag of fast food in his hands. “Get dressed. You’ve gotta drive us to Gotham City.”
Kyle blinked, glancing down at the bag before looking at Dick. “Why?”
“Our sister’s coming home, and we overslept and missed out flight outta here.”
“And you came to me…why?” he asked.
“Because you have the functioning car.” Jason retorted, antsy on his feet. “C’mon Kyle. We have to hurry! (Y/N)’s coming home!”
Figuring it was better to agree than to argue, Kyle relented, handing back the bag of food before he disappeared into his apartment, reappearing moments later, dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans, a graphic tee, and his usual slim casual jacket. He took the bag back and started digging around in it.
“Who’s (Y/N)?” he inquired, biting into a breakfast burrito as he locked his front door behind him.
“Our baby sister.” Jason said.
“I thought Cass was your baby sister?”
Dick nodded, getting out his own breakfast from the bag. “She is. But (Y/N)’s like…the OG baby sister.”
Kyle blinked, glancing over at him as he pushed the elevator button. “That makes no sense.”
“He means that (Y/N) was around before Cass was.”
“And she isn’t with you guys why?”
“She’s been on Themyscira for the last few years training with her grandmother and the other Amazons.” Jason answered as if it was the most normal thing in the world, stepping onto the elevator.
Kyle merely stared at the two brothers who were looking back at him; he felt like he’d been punched in the stomach. “Wait, your sister’s an Amazon?”
“Yep.”
“Who’s her mom?” he asked, stepping between them.
“Wonder Woman.” Dick said.
Strike two. “Who’s her dad?”
“Batman.” Jason responded.
Believe it or not, Kyle went three for three punches to the gut. “Bruce and Diana had a kid together?”
“Yeah.” Dick murmured. “I think it’s also why B’s so insistent against inter-team-relations.” He nudged Jason behind Kyle. “First time he attempts dating a coworker he ends up with a baby.”
Jason snorted. “And all those lessons about, ‘Children, whatever you do, don’t date anyone on your team. It’ll only lead to babies and limited visitation’.” He laughed again, then he frowned. “I don’t think any of us have followed that lesson.”
Dick opened his mouth to make an excuse but all that came out was a pitiful, deflate of air followed by, “That’s actually a good point.”
The elevator dinged and they watched the doors open before walking out towards the parking garage. They climbed into Kyle’s car, Jason in the front because his legs were longer than Dick’s, and Dick was a contortionist anyways so if anyone deserved to have their knees in their chest, it was him.
Halfway through the drive Kyle asked, “You guys are paying for my gas, aren’t you?”
All he received was unsure responses and he merely sighed.
***
He figured he should’ve just dropped Jason and Dick off at the airport in Gotham and drove home, but he couldn’t help but want to see just what the daughter of Wonder Woman and Batman looked like. He imagined a little girl dressed in a Batman suit three sizes too big and wielding a sword and a lasso way too heavy for her. It made him smile, the way that the two brothers gushed about (Y/N). From their praise, she was their world. Kyle had to see her though, because nothing was going to satiate that curiosity of seeing the big Batman’s daughter.
He watched Dick and Jason crane their necks like birds as they looked around. And honestly, the family shouldn’t have been that hard to find considering that every time Kyle was around the entirety of the Batfamily, they were like psychos on steroids—he very much so understood why the entirety of Gotham’s villains became flighty when every member of the Batfamily was out patrolling.
Kyle wasn’t expecting a voice to crack over the airport, loud and bubbly. “Brothers!”
All three of them stopped, even him who wasn’t even a sibling, looking over towards the call and Kyle’s jaw dropped as a young woman sprinted over to Dick and Jason, slamming into them with the weight of a train. The three of them collapsed into a pile on the floor, but they were laughing so Kyle assumed the siblings were alright.
“Princess!”
“Baby girl!”
“Oh, I am so glad to see you both!” she exclaimed. “I have waited so long to come home!” she was on her feet in moments, pulling them to theirs as if they weighed nothing. And Kyle knew Jason weighed a lot—he’d been crushed under his best friend before in fights.
Suddenly, she stopped and looked over at Kyle who immediately felt his heart lurch under her sharp gaze. “Who is this you have brought?”
Jason gestured to him. “(Y/N) this is Kyle. He’s a friend of Dick and mine. Kyle, this is our little sister, (Y/N).”
She huffed laugh. “I am not little, Jason. I am twenty-one.” Reaching out, she immediately pulled Kyle in for a hug, squeezing him tightly. “It is good to meet you, Kyle.”
“You too,” he murmured, feeling his cheeks warm as she pulled away and placed her hands on his shoulders.
“Any friend of my brothers is a friend of mine.” (Y/N) smiled. “Are you a superhero as well?”
He couldn’t help but toss a quick glance towards Jason who nodded. “Uh, yeah. I’m a Green Lantern.”
(Y/N)’s eyes widened in wonder, and she let go of his shoulders in favor of grabbing at his hands until she found his ring. She stared at it, murmuring quiet, ‘ooo’s and ah’s’. “That is simply amazing!” she chirped, looking at him, and then she silently gasped, raising his hand near his eyes. “Oh…your eyes are almost the same color as your ring.”
Her smile made Kyle’s heart beat a little faster as she expressed, “They are beautiful.”
They gazed at each other, too captivated in the moment to understand that the family had gathered around them by then. Someone’s hand curled around (Y/N)’s wrist and she looked over seeing Dick tugging her hand away.
“C’mon Princess, let’s go get your things on the belt.”
She smiled and followed, giving a small wave to Kyle, who returned hers shakily whilst grinning like a dope.
Someone elbowed him in the ribs, and he gasped, holding his side as Jason muttered, “Don’t ever stare at my sister like that again.”
Kyle blinked, glancing at him. “What’re you talking about?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about, you goddamn skirt-chaser.”
“I didn’t do anything!” Kyle spluttered.
“You’re thinking about it.” Jason warned, pointing a finger in his face. “Make a move on (Y/N) and I’ll kill you with your own ring.” Kyle recoiled just as she and Dick were coming back, both holding a suitcase.
“Father!” she called, glancing at Bruce. “Dick and I have retrieved my luggage.”
He smiled at her. “Let’s go put it in the SUV then.” He paused, looking over the large group. He and Diana had ridden together, and since his children had fender-benders, they’d picked up Cass, Tim, Stephanie, Duke, and Damian; there wasn’t room for (Y/N) too.
“Father? Is something the matter?” (Y/N) was staring at him with concern.
“There’s not enough room in the SUV for you too. Maybe we—”
“There’s room in my car for (Y/N)!” Kyle blurted out, smiling nervously at Bruce. “I can follow behind you.”
Before anyone could screech ‘NO!’, mainly Dick and Jason, (Y/N) lit up like the morning sun. “Oh, that is a wonderful idea!” she grabbed onto Diana’s arm. “We should all stop for ice-cream though! Mother, what do you say?”
She smiled at her and leaned over, kissing her head. “I say that sounds like a fantastic idea, daughter.”
Kyle grinned and held out his arm for (Y/N), her giggling as she took it. “You know, I don’t live in Gotham, (Y/N), but I do know a good gelato store around the area.”
“What is gelato?” she asked, and he groaned.
“Oh, I can’t believe you don’t know what that is.” He started off, pilling her along, leaving everyone behind. “Don’t worry, I’ll show you.”
Jason’s face pinched and he looked over at Bruce. “Can I break the no-kill rule just once?”
Bruce blinked, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched his daughter laughing along with Kyle, both looking like newlyweds already. “Believe it or not, I’m strongly considering it.”
“Bruce.” Diana admonished. “Let (Y/N) and Kyle become friends. You know she doesn’t have many outside this family here.”
Dick growled. “Except Kyle doesn’t want to be friends with (Y/N), Diana. He wants to be her boyfriend.”
“They just met though?”
“Yeah, and Kyle’s a propose on week two type of man,” Jason griped. “Jesus Christ, this is going to be a disaster.”
“I don’t know about you guys, but (Y/N) and Kyle said gelato and you guys are just standing here.” Tim said. “Can we go now?”

❥Anon requested: Can I request a part 2 of that Baji x reader soulmate AU it was super good and I wanna know what happened next did he introduce her to his friends? Does he meet her mom? I'm so curious
❥A/NThis is a repost from my old account. Sorry, i thought I had reposted this already! Thank you for reminding me, anon!
P1: soulmate au where your soulmate gets the same injuries. GN! Reader
Tumblr media
After meeting Baji, you felt relieved. Sure, not all soulmates were meant to be romantic partners, but rather someone who fully understood you. Soulmates were life partners and you had finally met yours.
You made sure to introduce him to your mother on her next visit and she was... Hesitant about him to say the least. He looked like an absolute troublemaker and, after all, he had been the reason of your loneliness all these years. But after seeing how content you were, she decided that she had no choice but to give him a chance and welcome him.
He also made sure to introduce you to all of his friends.
You felt intimidated at first, having never been the center of positive attention, and with Baji bragging about you—despite barely knowing you— didn't make it any easier.
However, his friends seemed to notice how you felt and tried not to overwhelm you despite their curiosity. At least most of them, except for the one who Baji introduced as his vice captain.
They were all dying to know what kind of person was Keisuke's soulmate and Chifuyu was absolutely shameless with his questions.
"What's your name? How exactly did you meet? When did you know he was your soulmate? It must've been hard getting all his shit done to you as well, how did you deal with that? Do you like cats? Where do you go to school? Are you a good student? Baji here isn't, but I try my best to help him out—" Takemichi had to stop him and almost drag him out to give you a break.
"We're gonna be best friends! I just know it!" He was able to tell before Takemichi ended up dragging him out of the hospital.
The next few days, only one or two of his friends would visit you two, as to not overwhelm you and get some time each to get to know you as well.
When you met his mom, she looked relieved and immediately welcomed you into her little family and seemed to get along with your mom as well.
Once you two were released, you started hanging out on weekends, with him sometimes dragging you to his gang meetings. You were happy to not be left alone while they discussed whatever issue that had to be discussed, but rather with Mikey's sister, Emma and Takemichi's girlfriend, Hina.
Emma would tell you stories of how Baji was as a child and even told you the name he had chosen for himself, so that Emma wouldn't feel alone.
Baji blushed when you called him Edward afterwards, glaring at Emma.
Overall, you enjoyed spending time with him and he loved helping you out with the stray cats you were taking care of and even learned all their names.
However, neither of you talked about your relationship status. Despite being soulmates, you had just met after all and were more focused on enjoying each other's company and getting to know each other better. Whatever may happen in the future, you knew you'd always have your bond with him.
Regarding his fights... He didn't stop and you wouldn't have allowed him to, but knowing he had you now, he was extra careful and, according to ever else, he got a bit more violent, trying to knock out as many adversaries as possible in order to not get himself hurt. He'd also try to use something else rather than his own bare hands or cover them with bandages to protect his skin.
You had told him that you didn't care anymore, as long as he didn't get stabbed, you knew how to clean and treat any other injuries.
After fights, he noticed how, despite the blood smeared on his knuckles, the cuts he had were mostly healed.
You found out the stories your mother had told you were true: if you treated and healed a your injuries, the ones inflicted on your soulmate healed faster as well. When you told his—and now yours, too— friends, Chifuyu seemed to be on the verge of tears, saying how you had saved Baji and you were the reason he made it out alive.
