Y/n sat silently in the back door of the van eating Twizzlers and listening to her friends talk to each other as they put on their wet suits. Angela sat beside her, “I keep thinking Eric’s going to ask me to prom and then he just doesn’t,” She said, defeat laced in her tone. Y/n shrugged her shoulders “Why don’t you ask him? I mean you're a strong independent woman, take control.” She said turning to face her friend. Angela leaned her head to the side, letting a bashful expression cross her features“I am?” She asked. y/n nodded “yes.” She said immediately, nodding her head.
Jessica came up to Angela asking her to zip her suit, making y/n avert her gaze elsewhere and making eye contact with Jacob black, who had two others behind him. “Y/n,” he said smiling as he stopped in front of her. y/n smiled “Hey Jacob. Guys this is Jacob.” She introduced. “Hey, guys. How are you doing?” He asked Jessica and Angela in his usual bubbly tone. Both girls replied with ‘hi’ and Jacob took a seat next to y/n. “So are you like, stalking me now?” She teased. “You're on my rez, remember?” He clapped back, causing y/n to roll her eyes. Jacob took a quick look around at her friends “Are you surfing?” He asked. Y/n laughed at the question “Absolutely not” she said, offering him a Twizzler which he accepted and thanked her for.
Jessica spoke up from beside Angela “You guys should keep y/n company. Her date bailed.” She said. Y/n rolled her eyes discreetly, “what date?” Eric asked from the other side of the van, where he and Mike were zipping up their suits. Jessica laughs “She invited Edward,” she said. “It wasn’t a date, I was just trying to be polite.” Y/n said in a mocking ‘duh’ tone. “I think it's nice she invited him. Nobody ever does.” Angela said sweetly, “Yeah ‘cause Cullens’ a freak,” Mike said and Jacob’s friends agreed with him. “You guys know him?” Y/n asked curiously. “The Cullens don’t come here,” Jacob’s friend said, causing a silence. Y/n looked over to Jacob who shook his head and took a bite out of the twizzler.
Y/n and Jacob walked along the beach of “la Push” in silence before Y/n spoke up. “What did your friends mean by “the Cullens don’t come here”?” She asked curious. Jacob scoffed lightheartedly “You caught that huh? I’m not supposed to say anything about it,” he said contemplating. Y/n nodded “Well I’m not gonna force it out of you… how about a pinky swear?” Y/n said no longer walking but holding up her pinky with a smile. Jacob chuckled stopping as well as he turned to her “Pinky swear?” He teased. Y/n laughed as well dropping her arm “What? Don’t tell me I have to teach you about pinky swear” she teased back. Jacob laughed and finally held up his pinky which y/n linked with her own. When both their hands dropped Jacob began. “It’s just like an old scary story” he said, as they began walking again. “I won’t get scared, I promise,” she said jokingly, making Jacob smile before it quickly dropped.
“Okay, did you know Quileutes are supposedly descended from wolves?” He asked, y/n’s eyebrows shot up in surprise “Wolves? Like real wolves?” She asked, making sure she heard him correctly. He nodded “Yeah, that’s the legend of our tribe.” Jacob said. Y/n nodded “So what’s the story about the Cullens?” She asked. “Well, they’re supposedly descended from this like, enemy clan. My great-grandfather, the chief, found them hunting on our land. But they claimed to be something different so, we made a treaty with them.” He said. Yn took in the information as Jacob continued talking. “If they promised to stay off Quileute lands, then we wouldn’t expose what they were to the pale faces,” he said finishing his story with a smile. “I thought they just moved here,” Y/n said. “Or just moved back,” he said chuckling. Y/n laughed along with him, playing it off but internally she was even more intrigued than before. Both y/n and Jacob were startled by a scream coming from Angela who ran by being chased by Eric with a snake.
(I decided to end the scene here because I hated the way Bella kept pressing about the Cullens story and because I actually love Jacob)
When y/n returned home Charlie wasn’t home from work yet, so she decided to just go to her room and find something to do. She somehow found herself at her computer searching ‘Quileute legends’. She quickly found a bookstore that was in Forks Washington and wrote down the address.
The next morning when y/n woke up she was pleased to see that the sun was making itself known. She quickly got ready for school and made sure to grab her ripped piece of paper with the address scribbled on it. At school she discretely (or so she thought) looked around in search of a specific person. “He’s not here,” Jessica said from beside y/n. Jessica was sitting on the table leaning back on her elbows sunbathing. “What?” Y/n asked confused. “ whenever the weather's nice the Cullen’s disappear.” Yn nodded slightly embarrassed at being caught “So what do they just ditch or something?” Y/n asked. “No, Dr. And Mrs.Cullen pull them out for like camping and stuff. Tried that with my parents… not a chance” Jessica said as Angela sat down next to y/n “Guys, I’m going to prom with Eric. I just asked him, I took control.” she said excitedly. Y/n cheered “See I told you,” she said hugging her. “Are you sure you have to go out of town?” Angela asked. “Oh yeah it’s kind of a family thing, can’t miss it” y/n replied. “Okay, we should go shopping before all the good dresses get cleaned out,” Jessica said before the bell rang. “At Port Angeles? Mind if I come?” She asked biting her lip in curiosity. “Uh yeah I need your opinion,” Angela said in a ‘duh’ tone.
Y/n sat doodling, barely paying attention as both girls tried on different dresses. They had both come out at the same time Angela in a teal blue almost and Jessica with a pinkish purple one with white gloves, as they rambled about the qualities the dresses bought out. Out of nowhere a group of guys walked passed knocking on the window and catcalling them, at that moment y/n had been so glad she’d decided against going to prom. She rolled her eyes and gave the guys a disgusted look “That’s disgusting” she said lowly looking back to her journal just as Jessica asked, “y/n, what do you think?” At this y/n looked back up. “You guys look great,” she said and both girls' shoulders slumped “You’ve said that about the last five dresses though,” Jessica said looking back to the mirror “I thought they were all pretty good” y/n sassed back. “You’re not really into all this are you?” Angela asked, y/n sighed feeling a little guilty “I just really want to go to this bookstore, I’ll meet you guys at the restaurant, ok?” She asked to shock the girls agreed.
It didn’t take y/n long to find the bookstore. The sun was setting fast causing an unsettling sensation to linger in her stomach. She found her book and paid for it before making an exit and starting back towards the restaurant where she was supposed to meet Jess and Angela. By now the sun was completely dark, and y/n had lost her way getting confused about which turn to take. As she passed an alley that looked familiar she began to walk down it but quickly changed her mind when the men from earlier today started walking toward her. She turned around and started walking back, as the men followed her. When she exited the alley she noticed more men walking toward her from that way as well. She was surrounded. Shed tried to move past them but they blocked her way “Woah woah woah, where you going pretty girl?” “Come drink with us” “Yeah you should come hang out with us” All the voices piled on top of each other and their breaths reeked of alcohol. Her breath began to pick up as her heart raced, “let me go” she threatened in a weak voice, but it became more firm as one of the guys laid their hands very low on her back “Don’t touch me!” She said as she kicked her guy in his area, just as a familiar car pulled into her sight stopping just before hitting the guys as they scattered around like rats.
“Get in the car” Edward demanded. Y/n was quick to follow his orders, feeling better about getting in a car with someone from school than staying out there. From what she could see, Edward had given them a threatening glare, she didn’t see his mouth moving so that’s all she could come up with. He got into the car and pulled forward again stopping maybe an inch from the guys before speeding out of the lot and back to the main road. “I should go back there and rip those guys’ heads off.” Edward threatened through clenched teeth. Y/n’s brows raised in shock “Uh no you really shouldn’t, that would classify as murder.” She rambled, as she grabbed the door handle in fear because of the speed he was doing in the car. “You don’t know the vile and repulsive things they were thinking” he argued mindlessly. Y/n looked over at him in confusion “And you do?” She asked. He hesitated for a second before saying “It’s not hard to guess.”. Y/n stared at him in silence for a second “Can you talk about something else? Distract me so I won’t turn around.” He said. Y/n racked her mind for something to say before settling with “Driving without a seatbelt is dangerous, you should buckle up” she said rambling again, he laughed “You should put your seatbelt on” he said. Y/n stared at him in shock at his mood swing but decided against saying anything
——
Y/n walked up to the restaurant where she was supposed to meet Angela and Jessica, only to find them walking out. “Hey, guys I'm sorry I-“ y/n started but was cut off by Angela’s worried tone “Where were you? We left you messages” Angela said, “yeah we waited, but we were like starving, so we..” Jessica trailed off as she saw Edward approaching. “I’m sorry I kept y/n from dinner< we just ran into each other and got talking,” he said flashing his not-seen-very-often smile, to anyone who knew y/n his statement would have been unbelievable but the two girls in front of her (one more than the other) were just happy to have Edward speak to them. Both girls were speechless at his comment “No, we understand I mean, it happens right?” Jess stuttered out smiling, “Um, we were- yeah we were just leaving so um, y/n if you wanna” Jessica pointed to the car they drove her in asking if she was coming with. “I think I should make sure y/n gets something to eat. If you’d like. I’ll drive you home myself” Edward asked looking right at y/n. She listened to the two girls on each side of her send ‘That’s so thoughtful’ and ‘yeah’s back and forth. “Yeah, yeah I should eat,” Y/n said. “Okay, we’ll see you tomorrow then.” They said. Y/n nodded as they turned around and walked up to the restaurant.
“Alright one mushroom ravioli,” the waiter said as she placed y/n plate down in front of her. “Thank you,” y/n said politely and sent the woman a tight-lipped smile, “yeah no problem,” she said before turning to Edward “So are you sure there’s not anything I can get you?” she asked him with a slight flirt in her tone. Edward glanced at her before settling his eyes back on y/n “No, no thank you” he said with a small smile. “Well let me know,” the woman said as she walked away. Y/n stared at him in wonder, “Are you not gonna eat? I mean I feel kind of weird eating in your face like this.” She said.
Edward huffed out a laugh before replying “No I’m on a um, special diet”. Y/n sighed looking down at her plate of food then back up at him “You gotta give me some answer” she said. “Yes, no, to get to the other side, 1.77245-“ “I don’t wanna know what the square root of pi is,” she said rolling her eyes. “You knew that?” He asked cheekily, y/n squinted her eyes at him. “you knew where I was, how?” She demanded. “I didn’t” he denied. Y/n nodded and began getting up “Alright-“ she said, and for once another emotion what looked to be panic crossed his face “Don’t leave. I-“ he said cutting himself off and letting out a sigh. Y/n sat back down, “were you following me? Did you see me out or something? I need answers,” she said, almost begging him to explain himself, immediately after she asked he spoke “I feel very protective of you,” he said. “So you followed me?” She asked looking away from him for a second before returning his gaze. “I was trying to keep a safe distance in case you needed my help and then I heard what those lowlives were thinking,” he said huffing out a laugh. “Hold on slow down, you heard what they were thinking?” She asked “So you read minds.” She confirmed.
He again huffed out a laugh and began looking around the restaurant “I can read every mind in this room, apart from yours” he said, the last part didn’t come as much of a surprise as the first part, she’d always been told she was hard to read even when her emotions were being laid out on a silver platter for everyone to see. He began looking around the room and saying what everyone was thinking. Until he got to her “And then you, nothing. It’s very frustrating” He said. Y/n nodded taking in the information, “I’ve always been told I’m hard to read, never thought anyone would mean it literally” Y/n said sheepishly. Edward laughed “I just told you I can read minds and that’s what you say?” He asked. “Oddly enough it doesn’t scare me. It’s familiar, I don’t know why” she said softly looking down at her untouched food but Edward heard her. He sighed making her look back up at him “What?” She asked. “I don’t have the strength to stay away from you anymore,” he said, staring into her eyes with an intensity she’d never seen before. “Then don’t” she replied recuperating his stare.

Driving back home was awkward, y/n felt the tension layered on thick. “I think I’m warm enough now,” she said and reached to turn off the heat, coming in contact with his hand who reached to do the same. His hand was cold, and y/n looked at him in wonder as he tensed“you could leave it on if you're still cold?” She suggested, at this, he visibly relaxed letting out a breath. He shook his head “no I’ll be fine it’s just nerves” he said. Y/n nodded not pushing him further as he reached to turn off the heat this time.
“Charlie’s still there can you pull in?” Y/n quietly asked him watching as the flashing lights of police cars passed them and surrounded the police station. “That’s my father’s car on the end,” Edward said softly. He said as he pulled into the parking lot and parked. “What is he doing here?” He asked face etched with confusion as they exited the car. “Carlisle, what’s going on?” He asked his father. “Waylon Forge was found in a boat out near his place. I just examined the body” Carlisle said. “He’s dead?” Y/n asked in shock. The doctor nodded “How?” She asked. The doctor shared a look with Edward “Animal attack” he said. “The same one that got the security guard down in Mason?” She asked. “Most likely” he answered. “It getting closer to town” “Y/n you should go inside, Waylon was a friend of Charlie’s,” he said. Y/n nodded and turned to Edward, “thanks for dinner and the ride, I’ll see you later” she said and walked into the station.
“Hey,” she greeted Charlie. “Hey,” he replied. After a couple of seconds of silence y/n spoke again. “I’m sorry for your loss,” she said sitting down beside him. “I’ve known him going on 30 years,” he said sadly. Not knowing what to say Y/n placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and he placed his over hers. Suddenly he started looking around “Don’t worry about it we’re gonna catch this thing. In the meantime I want you to carry this with you” he said pulling out a green bottle of pepper spray. Y/n grimaced “I’m not sure you-“ “It’ll give me some peace of mind” he cut her off before she could disagree. She took the bottle “Okay” she said. “Let’s go home,” he said.

Okay Ik it took forever for me to upload this but writing for twilight is hard when I’m trying to change up the perspective from Bella and Edward’s dynamic and morph it into my own kind of so let’s not say…

listen I understand why people dislike Jacob because he assaults Bella and is generally very unnecessarily mean throughout eclipse & BD, but you also cannot have discussions about his actions without factoring in that he’s a native american boy written by a racist white woman. it’s not as if Jacob Black is a real person with his own free will that did those things. a white woman wrote him like that to cause tension & conflict between her white primary couple.

~~~~~~~
           Your breathing sounded too loud in your ears. Footsteps echoed in the open room, and gruff voices filled most of the space. They couldn't hear you. They didn't know you were there.
           You heard someone pull the top off of a barrel. Your eyes were open, but useless; everything was pitch black to you. You hoped your barrel was far enough in the back that nobody would check it. All these men were looking for was a snack or a drink, right?
           You were willing to bet that pirates didn't routinely check through their food stores. What should have been a barrel full of dried meat did not, in fact, contain any. It contained live meat, and that live meat was you. You knew how hungry sailors could get at sea, and hoped that if you were found, they wouldn't opt for cannibalism.
           You were a stowaway. Running away from an abusive household and an empty life in Tortuga, you'd stashed yourself on the most promising ship. It was a huge but graceful vessel with black sails and made of dark wood. You figured that none of your family would follow you onto a ship with such a reputation.
           You knew the ship well; it stopped in Tortuga every few months, restocking its provisions and entertaining the men on board. You had a feeling it could suck any other city dry of rum.
           All the poor children went out to watch it dock and depart. Dark legends surrounded the vessel. Supposedly, it had been captained by ghosts once. Some said it still was. There was a rumor that it had been recovered from the depths by means of witchcraft after having been burned. The tales ranged from horrifying to ridiculous.
           You were more than willing to lead a more exciting life, one away from home. You loved stories of adventure, and now you were finally in one. Admittedly, it was less action-packed than you figured your first adventure would be. In all truth, it was a little scary.
           Every night, when no light entered the hull, you slipped out of your barrel with nothing to see by. You opened other barrels, feeling around inside them for what they held. You took as much food as you thought you'd need the next day. Then, you returned to your crate, trying to find a comfortable position.
           The days were boring. You had nothing to do, and you couldn't move. It was hard enough to live in a small house, but when confined to a barrel, life was dismal.
           You passed your time by sleeping. It was the only thing you could do besides worrying incessantly, and at least you couldn't feel your discomfort while asleep.
           The dull thud of another barrel top being shoved to the floor reminded you that you weren't alone. The shuffling of feet was, inch by inch, getting closer. If the pirates got any nearer, you feared they would find you. You didn't want to know what would happen if they did.
           You'd played the scenario out in your head a hundred times. Your brain came up with all sorts of awful things that could happen to you. You could be killed, or raped, or strung up from a mast and left to swing upside down from your ankles. All were unsavory options.
           You held your breath. Someone was standing right next to you, and you imagined them reaching out to take the lid off your barrel. You could practically see it. You tried convincing yourself that he was faced in the other direction. It didn't work; fear won out.
           You sat completely still for a few minutes while the men talked amongst themselves. You sent out silent prayers, but could hardly concentrate over the fear gripping your chest.
           Just as you were convincing yourself to relax, light blinded you. You blinked up into the daylight. Shocked faces stared down at you. There were two men hovering over your barrel, and both of them looked confused. Realization dawned on one of their faces.
           "A stowaway!" He said softly.
           Your neck craned up at an odd angle to look at them. Fear flooded your chest; you recalled everything you'd heard about this ship and wondered what tortures the crew had in mind for a young girl.
           Now, there were more people looking at you. You felt like some horror in a curiosity shop. You desperately wanted to escape their gaze, but you were stuck in the middle of them all. You couldn't run; a ship wasn't that big. They'd find you again eventually.
           "Would you like some help out?" The man's voice was strangely soft. Bending to look at the source, you noticed that it wasn't a man at all. A dark skinned woman stood over you, a floppy hat obscuring her face. She held a hand out to you which you gratefully accepted.
           Standing in the barrel, you took a look at the people around you. They were certainly an odd mix, but contrary to everything you had been told, they didn't seem frightening in the least.
           One of them stood no higher than your chest. He looked up at you with squinty eyes. Another man, an older gentleman with a grey beard, stared at her without making a sound. There was the woman, too, who stood with a hand on her hip and lips downturned in a way that said she was slightly inconvenienced.
           Your feelings of dread were slowly dissipating. The three pirates didn't look like they had the slightest idea what to do with you. You all spent a good while staring at each other, waiting for someone to talk.
           When you moved to step out of the barrel, they let you. You stretched, and they watched, staying quiet the whole time.
           Finally, the girl spoke. "We should take her on deck."
           This seemed like a satisfactory conclusion, because the short man awkwardly took your arm. There was no force behind his touch; it was like he was deciding whether or not you were a prisoner.
           You were escorted up to the deck. At first, nobody noticed you. Slowly, heads turned, and expressions changed from neutral to confused as the crew noticed that you were a stranger.
           A man in a turban stepped up to you. "Who is this girl?" He asked.
           The others shrugged, letting you introduce yourself. "I'm Y/N," you said in a little voice.
           "What are you doing here?"
           "I'm…running away from home."
           There was a moment's pause. "Someone should get Jack," said the man in the turban.
           "I'm not doing it." This was the woman, and she looked disgusted. "I'm not dealing with him."
           There were murmurs of agreement as people avoided the task. More people were staring at you now, making you feel uncomfortable. Whoever this 'Jack' was, he must be terrifying. The entire crew didn't want to fetch him.
           "Gibbs!" Someone called. "Go fetch Jack."
           A bewildered looking man with mutton chops gazed out over the crowd. His mouth moved as if he was going to speak, but he turned and headed off towards the back of the ship.
           "Who's Jack?" You asked timidly.
           "Our captain," said the woman. "Though a lot of good that does us." Her voice dropped with sarcasm. "Right now, he's asleep and horribly hungover. That's why nobody wants to deal with him. He can be a real pain in the ass."
           "Oh." You thought the captain was supposed to be the terror of the Caribbean seas.
           "I'm Anamaria." She stuck out her hand, and you took it. "That's Marty," she pointed at the short man, "and that's Mr. Cotton. He's mute; his parrot talks for him."
           You didn't know what to say. You'd already told them your name. It was a peculiar group of people. None of them seemed normal in the slightest. It definitely didn't seem like the crew of horrors you'd heard about.
           Instead of speaking, you nodded. You were a little dazed that nobody had harmed you. These people seemed…friendly, almost.
           Motion up ahead caught your attention. A man was staggering about, a bottle still in hand. "Who dares wake me?" He hollered.
           He definitely wasn't what you'd been expecting. People always talked about captains as if they were big-bellied, loud, cruel men who liked to prey on young girls. This didn't seem to be the case.
           This man was lean with a wiry build. His voice was loud, but only because he was shouting. You suspected the alcohol wasn't helping the back of his throat. He didn't look cruel; you'd have to find that out for yourself. As for the part about preying on women, you hoped you wouldn't have to discover it the hard way.
           Judging by the unimpressed looks from the crew, he didn't have any of the rumored traits. He staggered closer and almost fell over. When he'd gotten near enough, you could see how hard he was squinting at your face.
           "And who," he slurred, "is thissss…thiss wench?" He held onto each 's' like a hissing snake.
           "A stowaway." Anamaria announced.
           "A stowa-stow-st… why are you on my ship, lassie?" He turned his attention toward you.
           "Running away from home, Captain."
           He looked thoughtful. "I'm going back to bed. I'll deal with it when I wake up." With a nod, he stumbled away.
                                  ~~~~~
           You occupied yourself by sitting on a barrel near the rail of the ship  You watched the crew at work, the rolling ocean, and the door of the captain's cabin. You were wary of when he'd come back out. You were dreading the encounter, really. After all, he had the final say on what to do with you, and he could have you dumped into the ocean. Or stranded on an island. Or used as target practice.
           Your imagination was at it again. Really, you wished it would leave you alone. It was no use thinking up disastrous situations. You wouldn't know the verdict until he gave it to you himself.
           The hours wore on into late afternoon. Most of the crew had introduced themselves. They were the least intimidating bunch of people you'd ever met.
           "What about all the rumors I've heard?" You asked Anamaria. "About this ship?"
           "All true, every last one of them. However, they're outdated. The ship has changed both captain and crew since then."
           "And now?"
           "Now, we sail, searching for mystical items Jack wants to find. We talk with witches. We get into trouble with island tribes. We're the bane of the government because we're a minor nuisance that always slips away from them. Jack is good at avoiding conflict."
           "So, you're mainly just adventurers who call themselves pirates?"
           "We are pirates," she said defensively.
           "It doesn't sound like you do much pillaging to me."
           She paused, looking frustrated. "We don't."
           Just then, Jack stepped out of his cabin. He was more steady on his feet, and he scanned the deck for you. Finding you, he sauntered over, looking you up and down with dark eyes.
           "The stowaway. Does she have a name?" He gave you a pointed look.
           "Y/N." You introduced yourself for what felt like the thousandth time that morning.
           "Y/N." He repeated the name a few times, rolling it around on his tongue as if to get used to it. It made you a bit uncomfortable. He was…eccentric. That you could tell already. "It's a good name," he said.
           "Thank you?"
           "What use can you make of yourself on board my ship?"
           "What?" You'd never even been on a ship before. You couldn't possibly be of any help.
           "Can you cook? Can you clean? If you can't tell," here, he leaned in a little, wiggling his fingers in your face, "I'm not exactly working with a full crew. It puts some strain on things."
           "Oh." You hadn't thought of that. "I can do both of those things, actually."
           "Wonderful. I'll put you to work right away." He nodded, leaving you to Anamaria's instructions.
           The days wore on. Not only were people nice, but they were helpful, showing you where things were and how to do certain tasks. They complimented your cooking, saying you could work miracles with the food. It was, after all, dry and preserved. Ships could only carry nonperishable foods. They were never any good.
           You felt generally accepted by the crew. They didn't sneer, or make fun of you, or ignore you. You were included in all activities.
           Jack often stood at the helm, providing directions with his compass. He was such an odd man, you didn't see how he could ever be accepted as a captain. It was only when you listened to the stories about him that you understood.
           Jack took the crew on great adventures. Even if they didn't end in profit, the crew had a good time, and memories were made.
           A few days in, Jack invited you to dinner in his cabin. There were sniggers from all the crew members, but you accepted his invitation despite your embarrassment.
           Jack hadn't been able to decide what direction to sail in for days. You thought it curious. Didn't he know where he was going?
           "I hope this dinner clears up his mind," Anamaria shouted. "I don't want to be stuck drifting aimlessly for too long."
           There were scoffs, and multiple odd looks, but you tried not to pay attention. Your mind was wandering to what the dinner would be like. You didn't know what to expect. Jack was so strange, anything could happen.
           You felt bad for a lack of fresh clothes. You'd worn the same outfit for days on end, and you figured you smelled awful. You pulled at your hair to no avail. Clearly, it would have to stay messy.
           You slipped into his cabin that evening. He let you in with a slight bow, which you found amusing. There was no need to feign propriety around a Tortuga girl.
           He sat you down at a small table that had been drug to the center of the room. Other unidentifiable objects had been shoved against the walls to make room. You sat on a rickety stool that was missing a leg. The ship suffered from a lack of working objects.
           The dinner wasn't comprised of anything special. It seemed that Jack ate no better than his crew. He did, however, pull out a nice looking bottle of wine.
           "Do you plan on getting me drunk?" You asked.
           "It does make the food taste better," he said.
           You smiled. You couldn't fathom why Jack had invited you to dinner. You were afraid he was going to drop you off at the next port, and he was telling you it was your time to leave.
           Instead, he asked about your life before running away. "You said you were running away." He absentmindedly tapped his bread against the table, checking for bugs. "What from?"
           You didn't know how to answer the question. "People," you said.
           "The authorities?" Now, he looked rather interested.
           "No." You shifted uncomfortably on the stool, which creaked under you. "From my family."
           In the time you had spent on the ship, not once had Jack looked serious. Now, he was sobered and grim. He nodded. "Sometimes we aren't meant to live at home."
           You wondered at that. It was possible that you truly weren't. What, you asked yourself, had Jack been through that he would know the feeling?
           "We won't be making port for a while. Tortuga is our usual stop, and I doubt you want to get off there."
           You shook your head. You definitely didn't want to end up back in Tortuga. "Where will we stop?"
           "I make no promises, love. But I suspect somewhere in Spain."
           Spain sounded exciting. The people from home told stories about Spain. "What for?" You asked. There were so many things to see in the world, you realized.
           "They say the Holy Grail lies there."
           "What do you need that for?"
           His eyes flashed with desire. "Immortality."
           "Sounds lonely," you said.
           "What do you mean?" His nose twitched.
           "You'd always be losing people."
           "I'd find some new ones."
           "I don't think that's how it works." You certainly didn't want to outlive your friends. Not that you had any, really, but you'd make some.
           He cleared his throat. "My point is: will you be leaving us or no, savvy?"
           You considered. You liked the crew, and work wasn't too bad, considering you were given the necessary but easy and menial tasks. "I don't know. I'll make up my mind when we arrive, I suppose."
           "Fair."
           "The crew tells me about all the adventures you've taken them on." You looked at your empty plate, flushing. "I've always wanted to go on adventures. I might stay, just for that. Am I on one now, do you think?"
           He hummed his assent. "And I could take you on lots more, love. Lots more." He leaned in a little, tilting your chin up with a finger.
           It took all your self-control not to squeak. He was certainly close, and the smirk on his face wasn't helping your embarrassment.
           The night continued. You chatted idly. You didn't get drunk, but you were pleasantly flushed by the time you decided to leave.
           You turned to go, but Jack set a hand on your shoulder. His expression was serious again, and you tensed. "Family isn't always the people who share your name. Family cares." He gazed into your eyes, unblinking. "We can be your family. This crew."
           "The captain, too?"
           "Him too, love."
           You smiled weakly. "Thank you." You pressed a light kiss to his cheek. You took a moment to gauge his reaction, hoping you hadn't overstepped your place.
           He turned red, but a smile tugged at his lips. Gently, he cupped the back of your head with a hand, the other resting just below your chin. He smelled- and tasted- like wine when he gave you a slow kiss.
           "Goodnight, Y/N," he murmured against your lips.
           "Goodnight, Jack." It was more of a sigh than actual speech.
           Jack decided which direction to travel the next day, but that didn't keep him from asking you to dinner again. And again. After all, he couldn't direct the ship while distracted.
           You decided to stay. The adventure was appealing, but there were other things, too. You belonged somewhere. You weren't about to give it up.

Miraculous Ladybug: Adventures Of Lupine Alpha and Corvus. Chapter 3
Summery: A new girl has started at Adrien’s school. One whose elder brother is just as rich and famous as his father. Adrien gets to know the girl more as his father works with her brother on a new project and finds she is a lot like him. As Chat Noir he continues to work along side Ladybug to keep Paris safe when a new Miraculous Holder appears along with a new enemy. Just who is Lupine Alpha? As their knowledge changes and expands more and more information about the Miraculouses comes to light. As do more miraculous holders.
(Note: I do allow reblogging of this on tumblr alone )
Lupine, Marinette had to admit wasn’t so bad as she first thought upon seeing her. Lupine was actually a rather great distraction to keep the akuma busy as she taunted him even more annoying then Chat which was saying something. She hadn’t moved much further towards them but rather drawing the akuma around the block to a more open space by dashing to the side when they struck at her.
Ladybug chased the akuma with Chat as the akuma chased the wolf. “Why does she get real fur and I don’t?” Chat wonders eyeing the thick fluffy ruff of fur she had around her neck it looked soft and comfy and something he secretly wanted to bury his face into. He had seen characters in anime do that to animals especially dogs with thick fur and he had always wanted to try it.
“Chat not now besides her miraculous isn’t connected to ours so she is going to be different. Tiki has never mentioned there ever being a wolf miraculous before not in the set that ours are a part of but there may be more out there that are different from ours. There is still so much we don’t know about our miraculouses yet.”
“Your right there Milady. She is different. Is it just me or does she seem like she’s north american?” Chat asks noticing distinct differences in her transformation that had him thinking about the Native American tribes of North America. Lupine the Latin name for wolf mixed with alpha which basically meant top and had connections to wolves who were ruled by an alpha int heir pack.
“What do you mean?” She swung her yoyo and snag the akuma’s fist just as he yelled. “Claw’s of the Bear!” His entire hand shifted into that of a bears paw and was about to strike Lupine. “She seems distinctly Native American to me. Think about it wolves are predominate in their culture a lot of times so what if the set her miraculous is from originally came from North America and her transformation still holds ties to that.”
“You know Chat you can be pretty smart at times.” Ladybug says with a grin holding onto her yoyo with one hand long enough to give him chin scratches. She had no idea where Lupine came from but she was currently trying to help them and had yet to interfere like Volpina had so she didn’t have much of an issue with Lupine. She got a distinct feeling from Volpina that made it hard for her to trust her right off the bat but with Lupine she felt differently. She got no such wary feeling with Lupine Alpha.
“Umm guys? I know we aren’t exactly a team here but I could use some help!” Lupine calls backing away trying to think what to do now that they were in a wider open area. “Lupine grab him with your whip send him flying into the air if you can.” Ladybug calls thinking fast she needed to use her Lucky Charm and fast this guy seemed to be partially like Animan had been, able to shift into an animal but only parts of him using their strength and abilities and he always called out what he was going to do next this gave them a slight advantage by being able to try and think around what he was going to do and avoid or counter it.
Lupine did as told snagging her whip which she had wrapped back around her waist pulling back her arm and throwing it forward sending the length of her whip flying to land with aloud crack wrapping around the waist of her target. Ladybug winced at the red welts that appeared from the whip that had to hurt but it was a whip after all. Using both her hands and all her strength she pulled on the handle of her whip moving quickly onto a small wall to give her better leverage and advantage point.
Growling she gave her whip another big tug twisting and sending him flying into the air releasing her whip with a tug from around him. Chat jumped forward extending his baton and using the length of it to give him enough leverage to bat the akuma higher into the air. “All yours now Milady he’s purr-ity high up now don’t you think?” He calls to Lupine cracking one of his cat jokes.
“Ohh your funny I like you.” Lupine says with a laugh and a grin at his joke. “Oh oh I got one. He’s not going to be howling when we’re done with him.” Lupine calls with a wicked laugh causing Ladybug to groan great now she had two joksters to deal with. Chat laughed at Lupine’s joke. “You’re not so bad for a dog after all. "Wolf not a dog kitty witty."She barks
"Are you two quite done now?” Ladybug asks getting ready to use her Lucky Charm. “Paws-itively Milady. Tail her Lupine I’m not lion here now am I? She just can’t handle how meow-velously paw-some we are."Cat says with a laugh at all the jokes he manged to get in in one sentence. Ladybug put her head in her hands at how bad her partner was and at how hard Lupine was laughing finding all this as Chat would put it hiss-terical.
"Wings of an Eagle” The akuma cried. His arms shifted into literal wings allowing him to right himself and prevent him from falling back down to earth. “Well crap now what?” Chat asks as the three looked up watching the akuma. Lupine shivered rubbing her arms. “This guy gives me the creeps reminds me of old legends of Skinwalkers I’ve heard.” Skinwalker what’s that?“ Ladybug questions turning her attention briefly to the wolf miraculous holder.
"I really like scary stories and things okay? And the various Native American cultures is full of them in a way. A Skinwalker is a evil shape shifter who can take on various animal forms and chooses to do so to cause harm they are almost as bad as a Wendigo a cannibalistic monster that was once human.” She grumbles teeth bared at them in defense and defiance.
Chat turned to Ladybug green eyes wide. “Okay you’re no longer allowed to poke fun at my love of anime she likes scary stories that are true legends.” Lupine growled slightly arms crossed pouting. “They’re interesting to me okay? If you think Skinwalkers and Wendigoes are bad try hearing some about the Owlman or even Hellhounds or Black Dogs those are pretty freaky as some are pretty recent.”
Ladybug was interrupted from whatever she was going to say by the akuma shrieking in furry at them not paying him attention. “Wendigo I am not. You shall pay for turning your attentions away from me!” He cries diving towards them. Chat suddenly launched himself forward in front of Ladybug yelling out “Cataclysm!” And aiming his attack not at Skinwalker the akuma but the ground right under them.
His attack of dark energy that circled around his hand destroyed the ground under them. Lupine Alpha immediately snagged her whip and latched onto a nearby lamp post pulling herself up out of the way of getting caught in his attack. Ladybug swung her yoyo to the same lamp post snagging Chat around the waist and pulling him along with her out of harms way as Skinwalker collided with the crumbling ground unable to pull up. Ladybug hung from the lamp post holding onto Chat still who extended his baton and sat cross legged on top of it while Lupine lay sprawled across the top of the lamp post for some odd reason unknown to her fellow miraculous holders.
“Good job kitty nice use of your Cataclysm.” Ladybug comments giving Chat a pat on the head as she swung herself down to the ground followed by the other two. Lupine’s dismount from the lamp post was not as graceful as Chat’s she more or else rolled off with a thud and an ‘ooff’ before standing back up and dusting herself off wrapping her whip around her waist.
The crumbling ground effectively trapped and locked Skinwalker into place preventing him from moving. Trapped in the middle of a giant crater with huge cracks in the ground his arms and legs were trapped. “Paws of a Badger!” He cried wiggling around using his newly reshaped hands and feet like shovels to dig his way out of the cracks in the ground.
“Oh no you don’t!” Ladybug says tossing her yoyo up into the air shouting out “Lucky Charm!” A moment later she was staring stupidly at a… a squeaky toy? “Okay that is both awesome and random at the same time.” Lupine comments leaning over to sniff at the toy getting batted away by Ladybug as she glanced around trying to figure out what to do with it.
A squeak from the toy and it disappearing from her hand had her glaring at Lupine Alpha who was currently gnawing on it with sharp teeth much to Chat’s amusement. Ladybug grabbed the end of the toy sticking out of her mouth and pulled starting a tug of war over it with the wolf. “Give me that! And get that thing out of your mouth!” She growls fighting to free it from the jaws of the wolf.
Lupine dropped the toy suddenly releasing it and sending Ladybug sprawling backwards onto the ground. Both Lupine and Chat stood ramrod straight ears twitching as they seemed to listen to something. Ladybug sat up and made a face at the drool covering her hand from the toy. “Ewww.” Before she had a chance to react She was grabbed by both arms and hauled out of the way back several feet in a single leap by Chat Noir and Lupine Alpha as the ground beneath them and Skinwalker completely crumbled into seemingly nothingness.
Skinwalker let out a terrified shriek as he fell into darkness. “What the?!” All three shout peering into the now gaping hole in the ground. “Umm guys?” Lupine asks with a whimper sniffing the stale dry air coming up from the darkness. “Yeah?” They both asks Chat using his ability to see into the dark to try and spot Skinwalker through all the dust floating in the air wrinkling his nose at the strangeness of the scent that was coming from it.
“This is Paris right?” “Yeah.” Was the answer from both. “Well what’s Paris famous for?” Lupine questions covering her own nose as the dust began to clear. “Being 'The City of Lights’, 'The City of Love’” Ladybug answered at the same time as Chat. “Besides that think attraction wise.” “The Eiffel Tower.” “Nope.” “The Louvre Pyramid.” No but I’ve always wanted to see that.“ "The Church of Notre Dame?” No but still on my list of things to see.“ "The Arc De Triomphe?” “Still no and you’re just making me want to go see all these things.” Chat Noir and Ladybug fired off various things that Paris was famous for at their companions and partner.
“The Pont des Arts?” Chat asks hopefully his face lighting up in a mischievous grin as he leered at Ladybug. “Nope and you two are officially showing me around Paris when this is over. ” Lupine whines with a wistful sigh and a look of longing around her while Ladybug pushed Chat away with a fingertip to the nose. “The Catacombs.” Came the dark foreboding answer as the dust clear enough for light to spill down in so they could see the walls of a tunnel system that were covered in thousands of bones.
Chat’s ring beeped and a paw pad vanished leaving only four green pads lit still. “Crap I’m running out of time. I’m going to detransform soon. ” “You should go and meet up with us later. I still have five minutes left and I still need to use this.” Ladybug urges him holding up the squeaky toy. “No wait!” Lupine argues grabbing Chat’s arm as he started to move away. “Look Skinwalker’s getting away if we chase after him now we still have four minutes before Chat detransforms but if he leaves and tries to meet up with us later we will be split up and the Catacombs are a maze of tunnels it could be impossible to find each other down there. It’s better if we stick together and try to catch Skinwalker in the four minutes we have left and you can use your Lucky Item somehow. ” Lupine argues her point across her gold eyes serious.
Ladybug curses herself silently. Lupine Alpha was right splitting up in a maze was a bad idea. “You’re right lets do this quick and get back before time runs out.” The three of them jump down into the hole and take off running after Skinwalker. A beep this time from Ladybug’s earrings announced that she now had four minutes left. “We’re running out of time we have to hurry!”. Ladybug urges running faster.
“Vision of an Owl!” Skinwalker cried as he turned a corner abruptly. The trio followed only to be plunged into darkness. “Crap some sections of the Catacombs aren’t lit which means we can’t see a thing.” LB mutters stumbling to a halt desperate not to trip and fall into the walls and touch a skull or one of the bones that lined them. “Speak for yourself Milady but as always I can see purr-fectly fine.” Chat purrs in her ear taking her hand to lead her through the dark his ring beeping and flashing as another paw pad disappeared leaving him three minutes.
A hand closed around her other hand clenching it lightly in reassurance. “As can I. I am a wolf after all and he’s a cat.” Lupine says her white teeth and gold eyes the only thing about her that she could make out in the darkness besides Chat’s green eyes. With her two companions leading her through the darkness they raced down the tunnel towards and intersection.
Something being flung at them out of the darkness was what had Chat using his staff as a shield spinning it in a circle while Ladybug blocked another item with the twirl of her yoyo her earrings beeping. She felt Lupine release her hand to use her own whip to deflect incoming attacks. “Force of a Moose!"Came the cry out of the darkness followed by what sounded like the pounding of hooves coming charging towards them.
"Sanctuary!” Lupine Alpha suddenly yelled out jumping in front of them as a golden light spilled out of her outstretched hands engulfing them in it’s glow as Skinwalker with the upper torso of a moose collided with a solid sphere shield formed of the light. Skinwalker collapsed against the shield slumping to the ground from the force of the contact with it.
As the light of the sphere faded Ladybug finally managed to get her voice back and spit out the words that had been ringing in her head. “What was that?!” “That would be my special attack or rather move. I hold the power of protection. My spell Sanctuary literally creates a sanctuary around me and those I wish who are within my vicinity. It protects me and others from harm. Cool huh?” Lupine says with a grin. “Way cool.” Chat agrees nodding his head.
“So I have the power of Creation as Ladybug, Chat has the power of Destruction as Chat Noir and you have the power of Protection as Lupine Alpha?” Ladybug wonders sorting things out in her head. All three together sounded pretty incredible. “But it’s strange I haven’t even used my lucky item yet.” Ladybug murmurs as she knelt down beside Skinwalker who was unconscious.
A noise drew her up short and had her jumping back as something large came barreling towards them. Or rather something that seemed large judging by the noise in the darkness around them. “Ladybug watch out!” Both Chat and Lupine cried a beep sounding from Chat’s ring as they reached for her at the same time. Something wrapped around them tightly hauling them together into a pile.
Each tried to stand up twisting around trying to figure out what just happened. They fell right back down again as something tied them up tight with thick rope of some kind. They couldn’t move struggle as they might they were tied up back to back as whatever or whoever tied them up dragged Skinwalker away. Ladybug’s earrings beeped a moment later as they still struggled to get free.
“Dammit what just happened.” Lupine growls casting her golden eyed glance around in the darkness trying to find what attacked them. “I don’t know but we aren’t getting out of this mess anytime soon.” Ladybug grumbles trying to twist her wrists around enough to try and undo the ropes. “I only have less then two minutes left before I detransform.” Chat hisses out through clenched teeth as he tried to snag the edge of the rope with his claws.
A third beep sounded in the darkness and a light appeared and disappeared on the small metal tag around Lupine’s neck relieving a wolf paw on the tag made up of five paw pads with claws and one having just disappeared. “I have four minutes left now myself.” Lupine mutters. “Great just great. Now what do we do?” Ladybug asks with a sigh of defeat internally freaking out that her and Chat were about to detransform and they were trapped together in the darkness in the bone filled Catacombs underneath the city nothing could be possibly be worse then this. A tiny squeak noise followed by the scuffling of tiny feet over the ground made her stand corrected as the rat made its way over to investigate the trio of superheroes all tied up.
