What we (indirectly) learned from the TADC update

So many adventures and characters announced!

Where do we start? How about we do (sort of) chronological order

Starting with...

The only one we have a name for! This is also the one we see the most of, so it's probably in episode 2.

And here we have some colorful denizens of the seeming medieval and western confectionary realm:

So we have a gummy-gator sheriff, a chocolate blob, what might be a more distinct varirent of Dr. Football (the bath mannequin) and a literal Candy Queenie.

This just proves to me that TADC will pull a Psychoville and give the oldest main cast member the first spotlight episode. The actual character significance is something we'll get to later.

Now, adventure no. 2. Spudsy's!

You can see the brand name on the bag, btw.

The glove might belong to Spudsy, themselves, it might actually BE Spudsy, or it might just be a floating glove. Time will tell.

But Jax being so freaked out makes me wonder if this will actually be his episode. I'm actually not sure if this is episode 3 or 4 and, again, we'll get back to this.

We also learn the blue sphere person is (likely) the base template of the Spudy's customers.

Now, The Ghost Manor!

The only confirmed shots we get of it are of a little ghoulie and the Ghost Hostess from the teaser. This is my other contender for episode 3 or 4. The reason I'm unsure is this:

We get these very similar shots of a recorder classed as a new character, and Kinger beating someone with a shotgun. The light makes it seem like this might be in the ghost episode, or it might be a Kinger's backstory related flashback/delusion.

And lastly, the sport adventure we get teased with:

As the only unrelated asset we see, I'm guessing this will be in episode 5.

On the production side, we have this in the description:

From how she's talked about it before, it seems Goose currently plans on 1 season while planning to leave enough room to continue the series with a second season at some point.

And most importantly, we're looking at May as a likely, though importantly, not confirmed, release window for episode 2.

In conclusion, GET HYPED!!!

2. Joe (My Stand In)

this is kind of a cheat but i've read the original novel for My Stand In (Professional Body Double by Shui Qian Cheng) and i can confirm Joe/Zhou Xiang is the sweetest soul, most precious, unluckiest gay ever (Ming, you are on sight, watch it sir or imma steal Joe away). i'm super excited for My Stand In because i hope i get to fall in love with Joe once again the way i fell super hard, head over heels for him when i finished this danmei novel within less than 24 hours. (was this shameless PR for Poom Phuripan's new BL series next year? yes, yes it absolutely was 🤗)

if i don't have a gentle lover like Khun Yai Kritsada Palathip or a soft boyfriend like Jom Ravit Pittayanan then what's the POINT. i want both of them so BAD. also isn't it such a crime that Yai lives his entire life the rest of his live in celibacy, having fucked only ONE person (the love of his life) in his lifetime. The woman lunged at Seungcheol, she started to aggressively pull his hair, kicking & punching him while shouting “HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!” “YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME!” while crying. You were trying to pull her away with help from others. Once they got her off him, your dad called security to get her out. His mother followed her outside & spoke to her. Once she was back inside, she told you all that she had arranged for all of you to meet up tomorrow morning for brunch to sort this out. It was obvious this couldn’t just be ignored, a random woman who claimed that she was pregnant with your fiancé’s child had just crashed what was supposed to be your engagement party.

It was clear to everyone that the atmosphere of the party had been ruined so everyone just went home. The car ride back was awkward. No one spoke a word until you all reached your hotel room. There were a few whispers between Seungcheol’s parents & between your parents, but none of them spoke up. You didn’t want to talk to Seuncheol. Your mind was preoccupied thinking about the events that just occurred. Who was that woman & was what she said true

***TIME SKIP***

The next morning you all headed for brunch to meet up with the girl you met last night. She seemed a lot calmer today, but you could see her eyes were red & puffy, which meant she had been crying all night, which gave you a bad feeling. “So would you mind telling us who you are?” Seungcehol’s mother asked. “I’m Haneul. I had dated Seungcheol for almost 4 years, but then he just ghosted me & left me without any reason & when I found out I was pregnant, I had no idea of contacting Seungcheol but then I found out from a few friends about that you would be having your engagement party & I decided to come.." she said. You didn't know what to think. The entire time you spent with Seungcheol, he never seemed like the person who would just ghost someone, or get someone pregnant like that. "If everything is fine with me & if you can sort this out without me, I would like to leave, my work shift will begin in 15 minutes," the woman said, "Sure dear, go ahead. We'll sort this out & update you, don't worry," Seungcheol's mother said. With that, she bowed, took her bag & left. "So care to explain your side of the story?" you asked Seungcheol, it was clear you were annoyed with this whole situation. "Listen I know it may seem like I'm the bad guy in this situation, but I swear that's not what happened," he said with pleading eyes. "Then what is?" is mother questioned. "I did date her for a while, but I never told you because I didn't know how to introduce you to her & I knew you would have pressured me to marry her. & I didn't ghost her, I did break up with her, properly, I was to busy & I could sense she was cheating on me & my suspicions were confirmed when I caught her red-handed, cheating on me. But when I confronted her, she went psycho. She started crying & screaming at me. Begging me not to, saying that she regretted it & she would do anything for me to stay & make me forgive her & love her again. But when I still refused, she started throwing things at me. She had physically refused to end the relationship even though it was clear to everyone how it was crumbling. That's when & why I had to "ghost" her. Cause she didn't let me leave, & about her being pregnant, we never did anything. Even though she asked, I never agreed, which could be why she started sleeping around. But even if she was pregnant, I know that's not my child. I have no memory of sleeping with her unless she drugged me & did something, there's no way she's pregnant with my child." "Well this confusing," you said sighing, massaging your temples. "But if you never slept with her like you said, why did she cause a whole scene last night, screaming it was your child?" your mother asked, also confused with all this. "I have no idea," Seungcheol said getting frustrated at what was happening, "It's probably a baby trap," you said. "A what?" "A baby trap. It's when one person in the relationship causes a pregnancy, without knowing or the approval of the other. It's a way to get someone to be with you for good," "Well you can get out of this, with a simple DNA test of course, but that would mean waiting till the baby has come, to know" you said. "That would mean we'll have to postpone the wedding" both your moms said sighing. "I'll call Haneul & tell her to meet us again later in the evening to discuss this," his mother said. With that you all finished up your brunch & headed to you schedules for the day.

***TIME SKIP***

Later that evening you all got ready & headed to meet Haneul again. You had a feeling you'd have to get used to seeing her around often, which, if you were being honest, didn't thrill you at all.

At the restaurant, Seungcheol confronted her about what all he had told you earlier, to which she pathetically tried to deny it & kept insisting the baby was his, which made you roll your eyes at her. "Listen Haneul, I know that we never did anything together, that bastard was the only one that fucked you." he said angrily, "But Cheol it really is your baby!" the women kept pleading. She was starting to annoy you. "Listen I don't care what you say right now, once the baby is born we're getting a DNA test done. If it says I'm not the father, I'm going to marry my fiancé & you're going to leave us alone. But if it says I am the dad, don't expect us to get married, the most I'm willing to do is pay child support & have weekend visits with the child. But no matter what, even if I am the dad or not, the only person I'll be marrying is my lovely fiancé," Seungcheol said sternly. His words made a smile form on your face, it meant that he loved you enough to want to be with you for the rest of your life. You could see the women across you fuming in anger. "WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU SMILING YOU BITCH!" she yelled throwing a glass of water on your face. "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!" you yelled getting up. You were starting to grab the attention of everyone in the restaurant. Haneul came up to you & slapped you across your face, leaving a red mark of her handprint on your face. She was about to hit you again when Seungcehol hit her instead, "ENOUGH HANEUL!" he yelled. The waiter had called security, & they kicked her out after hearing from the other customers that she started getting physical first.

You all headed back to the hotel. By now your cheek was pretty red & a bit swollen. Once you got back to your shared room with Seungcheol, he went to the bathroom & got a towel & wrapped it around an ice pack & pressed it on your cheek. "Seungcehol, what would you actually do if you were the father," you asked him. "Exactly what I told at the restaurant Y/N. I love you & only you & no one is going to change that," he said. You were shocked, he just said he loved you, before you could process anything, his lips were on yours. It took you a few seconds to melt into his touch. Your arms found their way around his neck & his around your waist. The kiss kept getting deeper & then one thing led to the other. & That night Seungcheol made sure you knew you were the only girl he loved.

This has been in my drafts for days😭I had the plot but didn't have the words to actually write it but I finally managed to finish it at like around 2 AM. I really wanted to post it this week since I was getting tired of seeing it in my drafts for so many days. I was litreally half asleep when i wrote the ending so I hope it wasn't to bad😭🙏.

Lucienne is NOT subservient

There are some Sandman viewers who think Lucienne in the Netflix series was somehow subservient. Were we watching the same show?

1. Lucienne kept The Dreaming running while Morpheus was gone. That means she RULED the place for over a century.

2. Lucienne is the first raven. This was confirmed in the comics in The Sandman: The Kindly Ones and Neil confirmed on Twitter that yes, Lucienne is still the first raven. That means outside of Morpheus she has been in The Dreaming longer than anyone. She was likely human once as all of Morpheus’s ravens were former humans who choose to become ravens but chances are her current form is not her original human form. She chose another form after retiring from being a raven.

3. Lucienne is not a valet or house keeper. She is the librarian for all the stories in The Dreaming. That’s every story ever dreamed of. That’s quite a title. That’s bigger than if she ran The Library of Alexandria. Hell, that’s probably IN there!

4. Lucienne is the only one with the courage to tell Morpheus off when he’s wrong (besides his sister, Death). And one of the only ones he’ll listen to.

5. Even when Morpheus is there, Lucienne is clearly the second in command and is well respected by Morpheus.

6. Lucienne clearly has magical power of her own. In the comics Lucien (male version) could turn into a raven at will (see the story called The Hunt) but it’s clear she has more power in the show. Observe that she took a recently deceased human soul and was able to turn him into a raven. This was something that only Morpheus could do in the comics. She also had enough power to enable Morpheus to form a psychic link with Matthew as he does with the dream entities he creates in the comics.

7. Mervyn Pumpkinhead views Lucienne as the one who is really in charge.

8. Lucienne is extremely observant and intelligent. Just because she respects her king does not mean she’s subservient to him. She’s the closest thing he has to an equal in that castle and he knows it.

9. Lucienne acts a bit like a mother figure, something I think Morpheus actually needs. I’m not saying that she mothers him but she gives the impression of being a figure of authority that knows when to scold the man-child king.

10. Lucienne walks beside Morpheus, not behind him. If you know royal customs this is a big deal. This means he views her as an equal, not a subordinate, even if he only realizes it subconsciously. You will notice it when they walk to The House of Secrets and The House of Mystery in episode 2 of The Sandman, the episode Imperfect Hosts.

11. Before The Sandman comics, Lucien (original male version) was a horror host who told scary stories in Tales of Ghost Castle (retroactively now Morpheus’s castle) and he kept a pet werewolf named Rover. Lucien’s fondness for werewolves carried over into The Sandman for the issue called The Hunt. You have to be pretty tough to casually take a werewolf as a pet. Though Rover may not be canon to The Sandman, Lucien still seemed to have a fondness and lack of fear of werewolves in The Hunt. Again, you have to have some toughness about you to be casual about werewolves that can change form at will. (Animal trivia: Wolves and ravens are natural companions).

Ranking Avatars on a Completely Arbitrary Scale Part 2: Apocalypse Boogaloo

Arson Montague: 11/10. What an icon. She is the moment. I want a full series surrounding her life. She had a Coffee Shop AU with Jack Barnabas and immediately stopped being evil and died. Poor girl. I can't help but find the circumstances of her existence so funny though. Her mom killed her dad while she's been pregnant. The cult didn't even want this to happen since she wasn't "conceived in the flame". According to the wiki they relented since "no one knew how that would even work". They threw away the childcare book because it didn't fit the aesthetic. She still turned out pretty okay. We love to see it.

Annabelle Cain: 8/10. We don't even know anything concrete about her childhood because she might not have told the truth. Go queen give us nothing! Yeah she terrified people at the arachnophobia study but she also used her powers to help Jarchivist and Co. so like? good for her? Confirmed Eldritch Horror.

Nikola Orsinov: 3/10 *in the tune* fuck this shit i'm out! fuck this shit i'm out! No but fr she gave me legit creeps and the forced skincare routine while hilarious to think about just makes me itch all over. Not a fan. Sorry bestie. Do have to give her points for being a whole Demon Mannequin and still being freaked out by The Coffin, as well as for being sassy with Elias. Points deducted for killing Danny

Nathaniel Thorp: 9/10 this man was requested and I had to look him up because i lowkey forgot but when I saw the start I remembered INSTANTLY I love him. He cheated death!! in a game!! what a madlad. Cut off his finger to prove a point lmao. Sad that he was a coward in the beginning but ah aren't we all? He died and then undied and then got better but couldn't eat or drink. What a character. @4bsent-damascus I hope you know you have excellent taste.

Melanie Queen: 8/10. Queen of owning her opinion. Not gonna call her a girlboss or whatever (she is but not for the eye thing) but if there's one thing she's unparalleled at it's owning her opinions. I feel for her! I really do. If I had a ghost bullet in my leg that decayed my morals enough to let me get all the pent-up anger out I would also not want it out. She was horrible to Jon for most of her run, but I also get it? Also, like fucking hell dude she had to mutilate her eyes to get her life back!!

Daisy Tonner: 8/10. She's a good person!! I love her. Points off for being a cop though. But she owned up to the harm she caused! And after disconnecting from The Hunt she worked VERY hard to make sure she wouldn't hurt people again and still allowed it to overtake her so she could protect her friends! Excellent character and she has incredible depth and complexity

Hezekiah WAKEly: 10.5/10 just wanted to lay in the dirt and get some sleep. What a mood. He didn't even really do anything! Yeah he was a little enthusiastic about the grave digging but I feel like that's understandable. If my only good sleep came after I dug graves I too would want to dig more graves. half a point off for murdering his friend though :/ I would've docked a whole point but his friend was a snitch and told the church which is pretty lame. Also it's so funny that the guy that wanted to sleep so bad had the last name Wakely

Maxwell Reimer: 5/10. His last incarnation kidnapped a kid which is a very bad thing to do, so don't. He is kind of a mid character to me honestly. Points for being a body hopper like my man JMag but eh. No real feeling about him sorry lads.

Tova McHugh: 5/10. Diversity Win! The person stealing your life force is a Demigirl! [This is from checking the wiki, where it's noted that Tova is referred to with both she and they pronouns.] This is more from personal dislike of the whole "I can do more so my life is worth more" philosophy they've got going on. Kind fucked up bestie. Was going to be a 4 but I kind of appreciate how much she's working for the philanthropy? In the sense of "I've taken their lives so I need to make it worth it so it wasn't in vain" which is has complicated feelings but I think it's good.

Micheal Crew: 6/10. Overall good character actually. He had some bad luck with the lightning strike and only went after the Lietners to get rid of the thing that was tormenting him. Devoted himself to The Vast and only then was a little insane. Don't think he even actually killed anyone? Just scares the shit out of them. Cool guy.

Julia Montauk: 7/10. Really cool to me actually. Feral, which we love to see. She's got such a fun dynamic with Trevor. She wasn't even like, a bad person at first. Just trying to live her life and then some pool of nightmare ink made heer feral and she's been living that monster hunting life ever since. Points off for keeping Gerry imprisoned and trying to kill Jon. Though I do wonder how she and Trevor managed to get into the UK at all considering they couldn't before

Trevor Herbert: 8.5/10. What a madlad. Showed up in season 1 like "what's up I'm Herb I'm homeless and I may have killed a man". Just wholesale unhinged. He also battled lung cancer. and addiction. and he won!! Incredible. Love his dynamic with Julia and I would've given him a 7 but I forgot about the addiction and lung cancer thing till I looked it up and I think that deserves an extra point that shit is hard.

Merlin BBC UK TV Show - A Psychological Analysis Series Part 7

Season 5 Episode 3 - “ Death Song Of Uther Pendragon”

One of the most interesting episode in the series is the “ Death Song Of Uther Pendragon”.

In this episode we are exposed to the some less flattering aspects of Arthur’s character:

1) HYPOCRISY:

Arthur knowingly uses witchcraft by blowing the Horn of Cathbhadh to communicate with his deceased father.

It seems Arthur is okay with using magic when it benefits him despite maintaining the overall ban on magic in Camelot.

2) LYING:

Arthur hides the fact he is going to use the Horn of Cathbhadh, even from GWEN…..(Let that sink in). But of course not Merlin….because of reasons……….

3) INSECURITY:

Arthur tells Uther that he is his own man ………but at the same time desperately seeks Uther’s approval.

But the most interesting moments in the episode involve Uther Pendragon.

1) HE IS A TERRIBLE FATHER:

Uther is back and he is hopping mad. He spends all his time criticizing and berating Arthur.

Their interaction helps emphasize the contradiction between Uther and Balinor.

When Uther comes back from the dead he spends his time criticizing Arthur.

When Balinor’s spirit communicates with Merlin in Season 5 Episode 12, he uplifts and encourages his son.

2) ATTEMPTED FILICIDE:

Uther actually tries to kill Arthur. The reason which Uther states is his disapproval on how Arthur has governed his kingdom.

This story point does not make sense because Arthur was Uther’s sole heir and if he had killed Arthur, Camelot would have been without a King and the Pendragon dynasty could have ended right there.

While Uther was one of the main antagonist of the series his one redeeming feature was his repressed affection for his son.

However the writers have given us a vital clue to help us decipher why.

3) USING MAGIC:

Uther in spirit form uses magic to harm Perceval, Gwen, Arthur and Merlin.

Uther using magic betrays one of his own cherished belief of a Camelot being free from Magic.

Uther using magic in spirit form could be dismissed as ghosts possess magical powers and hence is not an outlier. However when Balinor came in Spirit form to help Merlin he did not use magic. When Igraine came in ghost form to speak to Arthur she did not use magic.

By using magic, Uther has confirmed the subtext of what magic represents in the show.

4) WHAT MAGIC REALLY MEANS:

That Magic is a methaphor for queerness.

When Arthur confronts Uther and says Uther has been driven by hate and fear. It refers to Uther own self hate for indulging in “magic” and fear of it being found out.

That repressed side of Uther which he has indulged in and has been the source of his guilt. Igraine died because she was impregnated using magic.

It has been Uther’s justification for the persecution of “magic users”

Same as self hating closeted people always spout the most anti-LGBTQIA stuff.

Uther’s motivation for killing Arthur and reclaiming Camelot stems from his religious devotion to the idea of Camelot. Just like Abraham was willing to kill his son to please God. Uther is ready to sacrifice Arthur because he believes Camelot will be undone with Arthur’s more liberal nature. With Arthur marrying a commoner and elevating commoners to knight hood, legalizing magic could be something Arthur could consider (AND DID CONSIDER IN THE DISIR EPISODE). Arthur after all was not above using magic to get what he wanted as highlighted above

Merlin even has some very revealing words when it comes to magic:

Uther even tries to out Merlin to Arthur before Arthur blows the horn to send him back to the spirit world.

5) MERTHUR FACTS:

Merlin tells Leon he is teaching Arthur poetry.

Gaya scienza (‘joyful, cheerful, or gay science’) was a term used by the troubadours in the twelfth to fourteenth centuries to refer to the art of poetry. In Ecce Homo Nietzsche writes that he has used the term gaya scienza here to designate the specific unity of ‘singer, knight, and free spirit’ which was characteristic of early Provencal culture…………………………….DO I NEED TO SAY MORE.

When Uther admits to trying to kill Gwen, Arthur tries to convince his father why Gwen is a worthy consort. When Uther tries to kill Merlin, Arthur straight up blows the horn without even letting Uther complete his sentence.

Upcoming BL game: Ooe (Adelta)

Last week Adelta posted some information about their newest game, Ooe (大穢)! The R18 visual novel is scheduled to be released fall 2023 (now changed to June 2024!), though they’re also planning on releasing some other Ooe-related projects like an all-ages TRPG (tabletop role-playing game) version of the game and a digital format novel.

Story 30th year of the Showa era (1955), detective Oosaki travels to an abandoned fishing village located on the remote island of Ooejima, located south of Tokyo. After receiving a strange request from his client, he attends the commemoration of an actress who passed away three years ago, on his behalf. During his stay on the island a series of strange events happen. The ship that is supposed to pick them up never arrives, no one has heard anything from the event organizer, and there seems to be an unexplainable hatred and fear among the other people who gathered on the island. Stranded on this ominous island, ten people unravel the mystery of their shared past and the death of the actress, whose name is also "Ooe".

The game focuses on the ''Closed circle mystery'' element that can often be found in detective fiction. The chaotic atmosphere peculiar to post-war Japan will also be noticeable in this story. The genre is ‘’Mystery x Detective x Japanese horror’’, but according to the official blog posts it won’t have any ghosts or extremely gorey content. This is also the first Adelta game which will have a top protagonist! (and everyone is 'straight’ supposedly, which probably just means they're usually not into men but only fall for Oosaki lol).

All nine attendees, who are also all murderers, will have their own routes, although some routes might be shorter than the others (4 full main routes). The servant who dies at the beginning of the game (I think this refers to Funeno) will also have his own route. When one route is cleared, more choices will be added to the game and more routes will unlock. Some newer blog updates also showed that there’s actually a 10th route? Which probably unlocks after clearing all of the other routes (I suspect it's Daiba). It’s also confirmed that the first route is Ariake, so maybe it will follow a similar pattern as the previous Adelta games in which you can only play the routes in a certain order!

Main characters Every character's personality seems to be inspired by the Buddhist fundamental earthly desires (workings of life that are believed to cause one psychological/physical suffering and impede the quest for enlightenment). I looked up the kanji that were used in the image below and added some translations/definitions of each term. I am not super familiar with these terms, so please let me know if there are any mistakes of course!

Oosaki (大崎) - Protagonist: A calm and collected young detective. He’s very tall and therefore people who meet him for the first time often assume he’s unfriendly, but in reality he's quite nice and just has a serious personality.

Ariake (有明) - Disregard (Anapatrapya 無愧): A mortician who likes helping out those in need. After injuring his dominant hand, he has been receiving a lot of help from others and keeps thanking them. I initially translated his mental factor as “shamelessness” too but then I noticed Shijoumae has a similar one. I suspect that in this case it means having no shame even while doing something bad, and that he will try to justify it in some way...

Shimbashi (新橋) - Stinginess/greed (Mātsarya 慳): A screenwriter who has a weird way of speaking, somehow combining overly polite speach and insults. He’s very proud of himself, also a germaphobe.

Hinode (日出) - Resentment (Krodha 忿): A junior high school student who travelled to the island on behalf of his mother. It seems like he doesn't talk. Uses a crutch to walk, though it's not really explained yet why.

Shijoumae (市場前) - Shamelessness (Āhrīkya 無慚): A gentle and polite surgeon, who is also specialized in treating burn victims. In this case the factor of “shamelessness” seems to represent someone who does not accept criticism from others and is not ashamed of their own mistakes.

Shiodome (汐留) - Restlesness (Auddhatya 掉挙): An energetic folkorist who can’t leave anything left unexplained. He’s researching the folklore and history of the island.

Funeno (船野) - Sleepiness (Middha 睡眠): A servant who runs the two abandoned inns on the island. He’s so kindhearted that even the butterflies on the island seem to like him. He only fears Oosaki...

Toyosu (豊洲) - Regret (Kaukritya 悪作): A soft-spoken monk, who always has a gentle air around him. Doesn’t quite understand why he was invited to the ceremony, as he has no connections to the Ooe family.

Takeshiba (竹芝) - Lethargy (Styāna 惛沈): A magician who speaks in Kansai dialect. He often seems quite nervous and avoids any form of conflict.

Aomi (青海) - Envy (Īrṣyā 嫉): A quiet music teacher who doesn’t talk a lot. When he does speak, it’s limited to short sentences only.

Side characters

Daiba Shizuma (台場静馬): Oosaki’s client who has a similar appearance as him. I’m not sure if he will remain as just a side character in the game because he’s the only one who also has red eyes, while so far all side characters have black eyes. He also has his own short story in the extra booklet... I wonder if he’s a secret route? He has way too much official art too.

Shinagawa Zakuro (品川柘榴): A junior detective who’s always tired.

Shinkiba (新木場): Manager of the detective agency, likes reading books

By the way, in a previous blog post it was mentioned that 大穢 will be used to refer to the 18+ BL visual novel version of the game which will be released first, and 大江 for the all-ages TRPG version, though both seem to have the same reading. Most older pictures still use 大江 but I think this decision to change the kanji was only made later.

Some fun facts: all of the characters except Oosaki are named after the stations of the Yurikamome Line. One of the blog posts mentions that since there are a lot of characters, the writer wanted to make it easy for people to remember their names, so they called them after train stations near Tokyo Big Sight (the location where Comiket is held twice a year). It seems like Oosaki and the side characters Shinagawa and Shinkiba are called after stations on the Rinkai line? But they did mention that these names weren't chosen for any plot-related reasons.

So far it also seems like some characters share their first names with characters from existing novels. Shiodome's first name is Michio, which is also the name of a quite relevant character in Kotou no Oni. Daiba's first name is Shizuma which seems to be referencing a character in the Inugami Curse, and Funeno's first name is Kureichirou, which is also the name of one of the main characters of Dogra Magra (the novel you might remember from Hashihime!).

As usual the writer uses a lot of literature as inspiration, this time it was mentioned that the story was inspired by Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, Edogawa Ranpo's Kotou no Oni and a few other stories inspired by real-life incidents (Anatahan, Higarigoke and the Mount Hakkoda incidents). They also seem to be referencing Inugami Curse or The inugami Family, so that's a small reading list for those who want to read something that could possibly be referenced in the game!

The official Adelta Twitter account frequently posts new updates about the game, so I recommend turning notifications on! They post a lot of background illustrations, CG previews, lineart, sketches etc. If you want even more information, I also purchase BL magazine Cool-B. Adelta always publishes a little bit of extra information in there, for example a ''madness'' scale ranking each character from 1 -5 (5 being the worst) so it's definitely worth checking out if you want to know more about this game.

Some important Link Click observations PT 4 (1, 2, 3):

As per usual with these posts, I will be discussing any mild or major observations I and other people have made about the donghua, so spoilers for S1 and the S2 trailers! Any artwork I mention can either be found in the previous observation lists or posted to my blog under like tags.

Of course with the recent release of a new PV for S2 (set to air next year) there's much to be poked and prodded at.

The trailer opens up with a clock just past 12:20.

After the brief shot of Qiao Ling is a funeral scene, presumably for Lu Guang considering how the previous season ended, as well as the first S2 PV. Though fans have tried to speculate that it could've been for Emma or another important character (especially with the picture being partially hidden), that was shot down when recalling the lack of people Lu Guang has been seen close with, which makes the vacant room not all that surprising. It's still up in the air, but it's most likely for Lu Guang.

Another thing fans have pointed out were the types of flowers seen at the funeral. There's no sight of any forget-me-nots (flowers corresponding with Lu Guang's star sign from previously released official art), and the only flowers present are the ones for Cheng Xiaoshi's star sign (Aries).

As was hinted at in the previous PV, Cheng Xiaoshi was arrested for the stabbing and is shown in a jail cell.

Cheng Xiaoshi is seen training with Liu Siwen (the martial arts trainer seen in a flashback in EP8 and prominently in EP5.5), learning to use a knife in a fight. It's unknown if this is before or after the stabbing incident.

It's not shown who Cheng Xiaoshi is speaking to for Captian Xiao's (the police chief) help, but it's likely Chen Bin, who was seen with the chief before in S1.

Liu Min's father is briefly seen on call with someone and demanding someone's cellphone, though it's unclear who.

not me forgetting what his father looked like and having to go back to edit this so people don't think he's a new guy🙃

There are 3 new faces spotted in the trailer: the first man with the buzz cut who's seen fighting Cheng Xiaoshi and Qiao Ling, the second glasses wearing man who mentions Liu Min being in the hospital and speaks suspiciously, and the third man who's seen in the new S2 visual and is implied to be the red-eyed villain.

Xiao Li is briefly shown bleeding from his head after an attack, presumably after being hit by a car in the same shot.

Funnily enough, the possibility of him being hit by the car calls back to the storyboards and rough animations the series director previously released (Weibo and Twitter accts linked in PT3), one of which showing someone narrowly avoiding being hit by a car.

Three other animations that were released were one of Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang driving down the road (similar to a storyboard sketch of the same theme and likely teasing the duo's overseas trip), another short one of Lu Guang that feels like it could be for an opening or ending (or simply to appease fans of his), and one of Cheng Xiaoshi being consoled by a ghost or vision (?) of Lu Guang.

Last point about the new PV, the glasses wearing man is the last character to appear, telling us he's someone very important to the plot. It's up to speculation who he is and if he has any connection to the trio.

The flashback Cheng Xiaoshi has of his parents during the earthquake arc partially shows his parents walking away from him, as we all know by now. This probably isn't of importance, but his mom is seen wearing heels while his dad is walking barefoot.

Bilibili's description for S2 gives us some interesting bits of info, such as confirming that the killer is responsible for multiple killings that took place years before Emma's. It also describes the killer as being, "a mysterious youth." We can gather that he's young from the PV and visual, but we have yet to find out how young.

Ramen conspiracy go brrr

The S2 visual, though quite minimalistic, has a great deal of details. One of which being the trio's apparel. While Cheng Xiaoshi and Qiao Ling don black suits (likely in lieu of the funeral), Lu Guang is in his usual outfit seen throughout the series.

Mirroring the trio, particularly Cheng Xiaoshi's position, is the red-eyed villain, whose face is finally (and partially) revealed. The colored waves of lines in the background of him are very similar to the depiction of his powers in the new S2 PV.

Aside from picking out his few visible physical characteristics and apparel, one most notable detail is the V on the pocket of his sleeve, and a V sticker near the bottom of his backpack. It could be written off as a design choice, but it could've easily been INPLICK's (series character designer) way of hinting at the character, as a V was also prominently highlighted or singled out in the first S2 visual, as well as the angel and demon official art (at the bottom of the clock). It's unclear if there's more meaning behind the letter outside of mere foreshadowing of a character.

Another interesting thing that was pointed out in the first S2 visual by fans are the colors. On the side where Cheng Xiaoshi stands, aside from the V on the building, we see the streaks of bright colors strongly resemble the colors used representing the villain.

The trio's birthday art and videos have all been released, Lu Guang's being the most recent from Oct 24. Lu Guang's, however, has an ominous easter egg in the form of forget-me-nots grouped at his abdomen where most fans remember him being stabbed at.

I could talk at length about the short series, but as I stated before, the series isn't considered canon or pertinent information. Despite me highlighting the tarot card episode.

Hello, Drewds! It’s been a while since Nancy Drew filming wrapped. Am I the only one who couldn’t have imagined being almost two full weeks into January and still not knowing when Season 4 of Nancy Drew was premiering? Me either.

In the meantime, some happenings:

The big headline is of course Kennedy McMann is starring in ABC’s massively popular ‘Good Doctor’ series’ spinoff The Good Lawyer as a young lawyer, Joni DeGroot, with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) - which Kennedy herself suffers from - opposite Felicity Huffman.

In the backdoor pilot airing March 13, we meet the “brilliant, funny and self-aware” young lawyer living with OCD, whose “attention to detail allows her to see cases through a different lens.” Sound familiar? Here’s to hoping Joni likes checked blazers and patterned scarves. If only her law firm also had a quirky tech guy…Congrats, Kennedy!

Speaking of Kennedy, she along with the writers and Riley came on Twitter to commiserate in solidarity with us on the lack of a premiere date, and to confirm that those fake episode titles (e.g. “The Whispers of the Grim” 😂) were bogus.

We also got SEASON 4 EMOJIS, her favorite scenes (in Ep. 3 and 13 after some clarification), and assurance that we will cry hard at the end of the finale.

Besides Cupid’s arrow (hopefully NACE and not some alternate love interests we have to suffer through), looking forward to the Hardy Family Hannukah Dinner, Game Night! (see below), camping out in that cool Airstream, road trip (PLEASE LET IT BE NANCY AND ACE), BABY (Carson and Jean’s perhaps?), curse breaking via a spell book Bess finds perhaps, and FIRE (oh no). Also Nancy’s gonna give some more blood, but we knew that already. I wonder if Ace is the latest blood donor….

Speaking of Game Night, here’s a little seen BTS photo from DP Nick Thomas I never posted from back in late September - Game Night is ON at Icarus Hall, and probably in the same episode with the earth shattering Nace photo Kennedy posted the same week. Does anyone recognize what game they’re going to be playing?

Next, the hit horror film M3GAN with the creepy life sized American Girl doll killer helped the CW pay the bills with a cross promo with ND that gave us a tiny bit of S4 footage.

We got to see Bess performing some kind of ritual? on Nancy with a weird contraption (mask? Ghost goggle type lens?) and Nancy vomiting black ick. They’re doing this in the in the Drew house, which is strange since Nancy seems to have moved into Icarus Hall. Ace’s voiceover where he questions Nancy’s eating habits has been debated to death of whether he’s actually in the scene or if it’s audio from the Tom Swift episode (inconclusive).

Based on Nancy and Nick’s (who’s behind Bess) wardrobe, and Kennedy’s mention of filming an episode with a ‘Burning Bride’ comedy vibe back in an early August podcast, I believe this scene is from Episode 2, and related to the cause of whatever humorous curse is going on in that episode. Anyway, Ew. But still nice to see actual S4 footage.

We also saw some of our actors on much deserved vacations, with Maddison and Leah both enjoying tropical vacations with their bfs (in Mexico and Costa Rica respectively).

This will probably be my last marathon post for a while. I do still owe a breakdown of Riley’s post from the last day of filming in the Claw set with baby shower props (!). Also, I finally reached 100+ notes with a short post of just fantastic cast BTS photos.

I’ve been hard at work on Part 2 of No One Mourns the Wicked, my Secret Sleuth fic with a Season 1 AU where the crew put on a summer stock production of Wicked. It’s almost done and it’s a doozy. I will probably split it into multiple parts to make it easier to consume, as it sort of turned into a multi-chapter extravaganza. Whoops. Speaking of which, I’ll be jumping right back into The Space Between (S4 spec fic) as soon as I’m done - there’s still a lot of insanity planned for the crew post curse breaking. They still have a mystery to solve…

Danny Phantom x World Trigger

So what if the portal in Danny basement didn't lead to the Ghost Zone but to the Neighbor world? This could work considering I've seen lots of ideas that the Infinite Reals isn't stagnant and that the haunt doors move (I don't know if this is confirmed in the DP canon) and it's canonic that the different Neighbor Worlds move in a wacky sort of orbital system. This would make the ghosts Neighbors who are trying to yoink people for their own respective societies. Maybe the trigger that is allowing the void travel is very experimental/deadly/top-secret which is why other nations aren't using it. Or maybe other nations consider the idea foolhardy and something that would never work so they don't try it and actively shun the nations that are trying it. There's also the resource management/intensity that you could think about. Many ways that you can spin it so that the small regulars of Danny's rogue gallery fit within this explanation. In fact, you could have a handful of Neighbor nations separately come up with the idea if you want to have "in-fighting" within the Gallery (again, I don't remember if this happened in canon). Maybe some of the Gallery eventually move into Amity Park and become unofficial citizens.

In this case, the Fenton tech probably isn't based off ectoplasm, but trion. Whether or not Jack and Maddie are aware of this fact is up to you. I can totally see them stumbling across a trion soldier, defeating it with Fenton wacky logic and then completely mistaking it for a ghost instead of an alien/otherworldly entity. Maybe they saw one of their friends get taken by trion soldiers and that's what started their obsession. But this means that there are a few triggers laying around the lab. Maybe Danny and Jazz have been trained in a few of these triggers and have some that are highly specialized to them. If so, assuming that one is going with the "half-dead" thing that makes Danny a halfa, then maybe he has his on him and he makes a black trigger out of his death. Granted, this feels like a stretch in plausibility so one may or may not want to include it.

Now because of the long standing, open portal to the Neighbor-verse, more trion expeditions from other nations probably pop up around Amity Park when compared to a place that doesn't have it. This makes Amity Parkers really experienced with what to do when that happens. Maybe they start to believe the Fentons. Maybe the Fentons or the Undying Trio start to give out basic triggers and train them in how to use it. For example, if a Bamster comes through, then the Amity Parkers immediately form groups and go into smaller areas while also doing head counts on some sort of public server. But a Marmod makes them scatter in pairs or maybe groups of 3-4 at the most. The overall affect is that there is a tight bond between Amity Parkers. One moment, the A-listers could be bullying others and the next, they're all working together to get to safety. I imagine that it affects the younger citizens more than the older ones, but that's just me.

With this, you can also decide how or if you want any characters to have Side Effects. One could have Danny have something like Chika's and have him have a danger sense that changes as he grows. So a Marmod would set if off strongly when the portal first opened but maybe after half a year or so, it registers as a medium or low threat to him. Maybe Dash has enhanced strength while Paulina can affect how others perceive her to a degree. Maybe Sam can talk to plants while Tucker has a complete and total understanding of technology.

As for how this ties into the main series, it would likely come into play after the Aftokrator invasion. Osamu pushes Border into an uncomfortable position for them. With the Away Mission coming up and many of their heavy hitters leaving for it, they want to make sure that they're not left completely defenseless should something similar happen while it's happening. So they look to outsource (with a huge blow to their pride). Now when Neighbors became widespread knowledge, the US Government tried to "recruit" Amity Park. However, they rebuffed the government multiple times including and up to the present. Whether or not the GIW came about as a way to strong arm them before or after this is up to you. When Border reaches out to them, the US Government doesn't really want to give them resources because the US likes to hoard weapons. So they direct Border to small town Amity Park which has been dealing with Neighbor attacks for a while yet has a very small casualty rate.

The Border goes to investigate and try and recruit. Their success depends largely on who they bring. Old Border members are much more likely to have things go over smoothly, bonus points to Danny if Yuma is brought along. But if it's just New Border agents, then it's going to end with Border not getting any help from Amity Park with the residents being mildly antagonistic to them. Danny would go out to meet them because while the Mayor may make big decisions for them, being the main protector makes his opinion valued. If the Border mentions the fact that they are gaining temporary protectors for the Away Trip, Danny is going to consult with any of the Rogue Gallery that has moved to Amity Park and/or Team Phantom. If Danny has Danger Sense, it would be a great show of power to Border if an attack comes through and he just sighs and sends out an alert. It would not only show that Danny has a "powerful" side effect for Border, but it also shows just how normalized attacks are and how most people go about their day through it, which is mind-boggling to Border who has shut down an entire area because of Neighbor attacks.

If Border passes the trust test, then Danny would probably ask about which Nations they're going through. He would casually throw out names and be like "well so and so is a small nation so they're less likely to have people but this nation is getting bigger so they might have some new captures" which would reveal just how valuable Amity Park is as an information source if not a defense ally.

This may be considered a very unpopular opinion but...I've tried to imagine like how exactly Logan loves Rory, like what his personal feelings for her are. And I don't mean it in the sense of how he's expressed his love or admiration for her, I mean like how he personally has felt for Rory in ways that isn't just explained through words to her. And I have to be honest: I come up short every time I've thought about it now.

I don't deny that Logan begged Rory to take him back, to the point where he went to Lorelai to plead with her to ask Rory to reconsider for him. And yes, he bought and did several things which were nice, thoughtful and considerate towards Rory in those moments. But I honestly don't think that Logan ever had a scene within the original series or even the revival where we actually get to hear about how he feels towards Rory or even see it, without Rory herself being in the room or talking to him. You know how we got numerous scenes where Jess is back in Stars Hollow in season 4, and both Luke and Lorelai repeatedly mention Rory to him? Or how Jess confesses that he told Rory he loved her to Luke? Or how we even get to see Jess's own reactions to seeing her around town? We get none of that with Logan. And this is actually something that we even got with Dean to a lesser extent, like when Jess comes in season 2 and you have several moments where Dean expresses his doubts to Lorelai. By comparison, the most we see of Logan talking to someone about Rory is to Lorelai, and I can't even take this as complete 'proof' because obviously Logan tried to be "at his most charming" with her when she's Rory's mother and he's asking her for a favor relating to her daughter and his relationship with her. We never get scenes where Logan talks to his friends about Rory, or even to Mitchum about her. And I don't even find this as a fault towards him as a character, I simply find this as a personal fault towards the writing. Even in season 7, I don't think we ever really get this with him. We get Logan talking to Mitchum about his job and wanting to quit, but again, nothing in terms of a scene where he talks about her with someone else (without Rory being in the room). And I don't fully know why, but it's a reason why I find their relationship somewhat lacking. There's just a lot of moments where Logan doesn't even feel fully fleshed out to me because of this. Like yes, I know he loves Rory later on and wants to be with her, but how does he love her, beyond the supposed "healthy, perfect" way his fans repeatedly say? Like, why was he fine with suddenly up and leaving after his turned-down proposal? Was his love for Rory this passionate and desperate to fully have her? Or was it something he felt like was "time" for them to do in their relationship? I feel like we never get a proper answer for this even in season 5, where at most he just kept going hot and cold on her. I've seen some fans mention that he very much so did think of her in season 5 while he was ghosting her and she ended up crying on the bathroom floor, but where exactly was this??? Is this really a proven thing within the writing or is it just another fan-favorite view of him?

Opinionwise, I sadly can’t share much in regards to Logan overall because I’m 1.25 episodes away from finishing season 5. And when it comes to seasons 6 and 7, most of it I either remember so vaguely that my opinion is unreliable or I just haven’t watched yet... What I can say is that season 5 Logan is a fuckboy through and through. We don’t get any sign from scenes or dialogue or even looks that Logan was thinking of Rory while he was off doing other stuff and possibly dating other girls (for all we know he might have, but it is pure speculation and not confirmed canon onscreen). He made a point out of not getting tied down but sabotaged any of Rory’s attempts to explore that same freedom (see: costume party). When Rory clarified her needs and explained that she respected his boundaries, he accused her of forcing him into a relationship or dealing some ultimatum that she wasn’t dealing before begging to be her boyfriend no less than two minutes later in real time. And while he doesn’t seem to take it like a sitting duck, we don’t see a lot of him fighting his family over their sexist and elitist opinions about Rory as a potential long term girlfriend for Logan. He’s by no means the devil, but he does nothing to prove he’s actual boyfriend material either (again, at least in season 5).

Also I feel like while Dean did get some moments to express his feelings for Rory, what makes Jess stand out to many viewers (especially his fans) is that his whole existence isn’t tied to a romance with Rory. Like no, we don’t see him after season 6, but from what I’ve learned that had less to do with him not serving a purpose anymore without Rory and more to do with scheduling conflicts and behind the scenes disagreements. Dean only exists in regards to relationships, and even though he introduces new characters like Lindsay, his arcs are always about where he stands with Rory. Jess had his arc with Luke. He had a minor arc with Lorelai. Hell, his existence introduced Liz Danes to the town and to becoming a recurring character on the show without him. While Dean and Logan are narratively (though not physically) incapable of existing without Rory, Jess can (at least in theory). I think that might be why some Jess fans actually turn on Rory more than Rogan or Dean x Rory shippers do. Because we are allowed to see Jess side of the story in more ways than one, it is easier to pick one of at least three sides (Rory, Jess or both) as opposed to rooting for or against a coupling.

Ok, time for some thoughts regarding yesterday's Nintendo Direct!

Pikmin 4: Nothing too revolutionary, just taking the Pikmin formula and refining/expanding it, like Pikmin 2 and 3 did before it. And honestly, that's not a bad thing! I love the Pikmin games, they're really fun and charming and this one seems to continue that trend. It seems we're getting all the existing Pikmin types in addition to the new Ice Pikmin so that'll be cool. And the new doggo is adorable! I'm really looking forward to this one.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective: This is a game that I always wanted to play and never got to do it, so I'm glad to see it ported to the Switch! Maybe this will be the time I actually play it.

Sea of Stars: Absolutely gorgeous and looks really fun as well, taking inspiration from one of my favorite games ever. Apparently it got a demo so I'll probably give that a try. I still need to play The Messenger though...

Game Boy and Game Boy Advance added to Nintendo Switch Online: Finally! And now I actually have the Expansion Pack thanks to a friend so I can get hyped about GBA too. The libraries are a bit limited for the time being but that's to be expected. Looking forward to replaying some of my favorites from that era and also try a few classics for the first time. Although the games I'm most hyped about are the ones that were confirmed to come in the future, like Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Pokémon TCG, Metroid Fusion and of course freaking GOLDEN SUN (yes, I'm ready to replay it for the millionth time).

Metroid Prime Remastered: Okay, I wasn't expecting this one, even though it had been rumored for a while. While I would've liked to see the entire trilogy in one package, the first Prime is arguably the best one and also one of the best games ever made. The remake looks amazing and much more polished than just a simple HD port. Seriously, if you haven't played this game before, give it a try, it's a masterpiece, and this is coming from someone who hates shooters (Metroid Prime isn't really a shooter).

Baten Kaitos I & II Remaster: HOLY SHIT. Another one (two?) that I always wanted to play but didn't get when it first came out before it became impossible to find, and never bothered with trying to emulate. I'd love to give the series a chance on modern hardware.

Professor Layton And The New World of Steam: HOOOOOO BOY!!! This might seriously be my favorite announcement of the Direct, even though they didn't really show us anything! I was a HUGE Layton fan during the DS era and I was so sad that the series kinda just died all of a sudden. I'm honestly so fucking hyped for this! Please be good, please be good, please be good!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Wave 4: The new track looks amazing! Yoshi's Island was one of the defining games from my childhood so this gets me extremely nostalgic. Also Birdo was a nice surprise! I wasn't expecting characters in the pass! While I don't really care about Birdo in particular, this opens the door for more characters so maybe this means I can finally have my boy Diddy Kong again. Please. It's been so long.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: Honestly I don't have a lot to say about this one. Am I hyped? Absolutely. But we still know so little about this game! What's the story about? How does it differ from BotW? Although, part of me kinda wishes it stays this way. Trailers tend to spoil too much stuff these days, so I'm fine with keeping the surprises for when I actually play the game. Oh, and it's a minor thing, but I hope they bring back Wolf Link and/or a similar mechanic (and not locked to amiibo this time). I just loved exploring Hyrule with a doggo.

Overall a really exciting Direct, and there were also a bunch of other cool announcements that I didn't touch here. Now to work on my backlog so I can play shiny new games without feeling guilty, lol.

3 games with a strange & underrated amount of detail to worldbuilding

Castle Crashers

Castle Crashers is one of those games that I play as sort of a cult following. It has a played a part in my childhood, and I always end up going back to it to play it again, especially with friends and family. But still shocks me to this day is the strange detailed amount of worldbuilding going on behind the scenes to this game.

Whether it’s the enemy kingdoms, the fun designed background of battles, or the fact there is very obviously several kingdoms with working cultures and systems going on. This silly game where you play as a group of knights (mostly) with magic, has you travel across its world, fighting baddies, saving princesses, and stopping whatever is in your way.

So much detail went into the game in the first place, but I’ve never seen its worldbuilding pointed out or talked about. Makes me really wish people would make more fan content of the game.

Call of Duty

Despite the fact that Call of Duty is one the major franchise video games I play, one that I’ve played since a tiny child, I never really payed much attention to the world it was in. I always just assumed it was the same as ours with dramatization in several aspects. However that didn’t stop young me to becoming obsessed with the obvious worldbuilding elephant in the room; Black Ops Zombies.

But as the years went on Call of Duty actually put thought into it’s wild yarn ball of a timeline, and decided to throw it a few times for the fans. The several branches of the Call of Duty decided to intertwine their storylines somewhat, and begin to utilize more consistent worldbuilding notions across the games. Eventually they cooked up a world with enough different, incredibly intricate details, and a timeline series that makes FNAF look linear that I believe to fully explore it you’d have to have A Phd in Call of Duty Lore.

To this day they still mess around with their wild worldbuilding (and it’s many controversial aspects) with the new installments, and remakes. Most recently Modern Warfare 2 Remastered did a revamp and expansion of the original modern warfare timelines, Vanguard confirmed the combining of all three major branch’s timelines, and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War continued to add to the Black Ops storylines.

Sims

Oh the sims! A beloved video gaming franchise running a brutal money hungry monopoly of life simulators. As a kid I was obsessed with an Xbox 360 pets copy of the Sims 3. As an adult I own Sims 4 and should’ve long pirated it, and leave it overly modded to rot in my steam files. Surprisingly this popular game has plenty of hidden lore and worldbuilding.

There is even a timeline (fucked up by the devs of Sims 4 not thinking one bit while making their game), and a conjoined storyline full of mysteries. Many of the original households have long backgrounds and stories told in many different ways using the game’s mechanics.

The playable worlds themselves have plenty of hidden adventure to be hold, and stories awaiting in plain sight. Whether that be towns infected by a mysterious strange sickness, a worn village full of pale greenish looking sims, or exploring the cases of the various ghosts and graves scattered throughout the games.

things to know band lineup wise - Ghost is and has always been mostly Tobias + paid musicians. the current ghouls have been the same since 2018, just acquiring a few more since. there's a bunch of names used for the ghouls from different eras and it's only this year that couple of the ghouls have been publicly named (altho we been knew since nothing actually stays secret lmao), so presumably this lineup is gonna be sticking around for a good while, but they all have their other projects during Ghost's downtime and overall the songs & the entire image of the band is all Tobias. also if you see people calling Tobias random names starting with initials TF (Tender Father, Toe Fungus, Titty Fiddler uknow) it's remains from the era when Tobias' name was outed due to a lawsuit but he hadn't officially revealed his identity (until 2017 even Tobias' name wasn't public knowledge, the frontman was known as just Papa Emeritus), so out of respect & to keep the secret from those fans who preferred not to know, people wouldn't call him by his name, but make up the most stupid nicknames out of his initials. and even tho his name is well known now, some of us still do it as a joke because it's simply funny 😌✨ also also if you see fans talk about going to rituals - that's what Ghost live shows are called lmao. gotta be dramatic ✨

also there's a shit ton of fantasy lore surrounding the band but you can dive into that as much or as little as you personally want to. the basic lore knowledge is just that the previous papas (1-3) were brothers & papa Nihil's sons, Cardinal Copia/Papa Emeritus IV is Sister Imperator's son, Nihil & Sister dated when they were young but broke up & none of the papas have been confirmed to be both of theirs kid. the previous papas were murdered from Sister's & Nihil's orders and by now Nihil is dead too cus he was old as fuck but he's still chillin around as a ghost. there's 14 episodes of like a lil lore series on Ghost's youtube channel that started when Copia arrived 4 years ago, and the fandom has built an entire alternative universe around the band, so like. if you're not the type to be into fantasy storylines, you don't need to, you can just enjoy the music. if you do enjoy more fleshed out story and universe you can contribute into yourself with writing or art or whatever, Ghost is the perfect sandbox for that too. you can get the basic building blocks from the youtube series and then just go nuts. also also also, the vocalist character will change again soon-ish. while it's always Tobias, every papa character from 1-3 made one album and stepped down. Copia has now made 2 albums - one as Cardinal Copia and one as Papa Emeritus IV. so he's already on borrowed time and his death has been hinted at in the latest lore clip. rat man's gonna go soon, don't get too attached. I'm totally not 🥲

Every Time John Zatara Has Come Back From The Dead

One thing that I wish DC would stop doing is bringing back John Zatara from the dead for cheap pathos. It cheapens his original death and having all of Zatanna’s story arcs revolve around her father keeps her in his shadow.

So here is every single time Zatara has come back from beyond the grave:

When Zatara died, Zatanna was still a member of the JLA. Shortly, after his death in Swamp Thing #50, Zatanna was kidnapped in the main JL title by a group of cultists who wanted to replicate her Homo Magi abilities with in herself. Whilst drugged and dazed Zatanna began to hear her father’s voice speaking to her in her mind. We, the audience aren’t privy to his words, the narration boxes simply tells us that Zatanna hears him and she conveys to us what she is hearing:

Anyway, I covered this story arc in depth here and here but to cut a long story short:

-Zatanna was searching for a girl she sublet her apartment in NYC.

-Sometime during that search, her father died.

-She tracked down the girl in the JL title but learns that she is part of a cult.

-The cult kidnaps Zatanna, drugs her and experiments on her to replicate the powers of the Homo Magi within their leader.

-The cult leader succeeds but he bit off on more power than he could be chew. According to Zatanna he’s made contact with the ‘Godhead’ something that few Homo Magi can achieve. He’s connected to all of creation and it’s consuming his mind.

-Zatanna, now having managed to contact the Martian Manhunter for help goes into the cult leader named Adam’s mind to free him. The experience was a huge ordeal for every one involved.

-At the last leg of the journey, Zatanna’s narration boxes tells us that she hears her father who tells her to surrender to the Godhead. She does and afterwards her and Adam come out changed from the experience. They both promptly disappear in a flash of light saying they ‘need to figure out what they had just experienced’.

The plot line is picked up in Spectre Vol 2 #7 in which the cult leader, Adam, is killed off screen, the Godhead is revealed to be an illusion created by Dr Fate villain Wotan who is a also trying to gain entry into our dimension through Zatanna’s body. Zatara’s spirit was revealed to have been trapped in limbo confirming it really was him trying to communicate with Zatanna.

After a bizarre body horror story which I will give it’s own dedicated post one day, Zatanna is freed from Wotan’s influence and got to say goodbye to her father in Spectre #8:

He showed up briefly in Books of Magic #1 (1991) Phantom Stranger time traveled to the past while giving Tim Hunter a tour of the magical world:

He came back as part of Circe’s zombie army in the big WW event ‘War of the Gods’ War of the Gods #4 (1991):

His ghost showed up in Starman #37 (1997) giving advice to Starman/Jack Knight along with other old time heroes:

The series also revealed that he had a relationship with Starman supporting character Charity and in Starman #80 (2001) he leaves a parting gift for her during a moment of need:

Again, I won’t spoil it for you. You’re going to have to read Starman for that.

He briefly got speak with Zatanna in Seven Soldiers: Zatanna #4 (2005):

Then he appeared in the 2008 mini series Reign In Hell where we learn that his soul is trapped in hell:

But then he is ‘killed’ again by Lobo in Reign In Hell #5 causing Zatanna to go on a rampage against the Main Man:

But wait! It turns out his soul was rescued by Brother Night, the main villain of Zatanna’s 2010 series who tries to pit father and daughter against each other in Zatanna #1-3:

She manages to free her father from Brother Night’s control and got to say goodbye to her father and that seemed to be it.

But wait, he came back again as a zombie in 2010 Blackest Night event where black lantern resurrected the loved ones of heroes. Zatanna fought her father’s corpse in Justice League of America Vol 2 #39-40:

We’re wondering that too Zee.

Then in Zatanna #7 from 2011, the psychic traces from Sargon’s ruby mixed with the residual magical energy of other magical heroes that briefly brought them back as a wraith trying to fight crime:

Which Zatanna defeats by letting her father’s spirit take control:

(Amusing enough, this is not the first time Sargon came back either but his return isn’t as frequent as Zatara’s tend to be. If you’re curious, he returned in Swamp Thing )

At this point, writers seem to have decided ‘kcuf ti s’eh evila won’ because Zatanna summons his ghost for advice in Gotham City Sirens #17 written by Peter Calloway, the plot is that Talia wants Zatanna to wipe Selina’s mind of Bruce’s secret identity:

Thankfully Zatanna doesn’t go through with it and restores Selina’s mind. Mind wipe related plots is another thing writers need to stop cut out.

And Paul Dini follows it up the Black Canary/Zatanna: Bloodspell OGN when Zatanna summons her fathers ghost for advice:

Once the Nu52 hit and DC timeline was rebooted, Zatanna met her father again via time travel in Justice League Dark Vol 1 #35:

He appeared in hell again in JLD Vol 2 with Sargon the Sorcerer and had a conversation with Wonder Woman in Justice League Dark Vol 2 #14:

“I heard your were....close with my daughter.”

Then in Justice League Dark Vol 2 #28 wherein he, for some reason, sacrifices himself so Zatanna can reunite with her shitty ex-boyfriend:

And with Dark Crisis in Justice League of America #75, who knows what will come next. Will Zatanna reunite and have to separate from her father again? Only time will tell.
