Thoughts on Jamie Johnson 5x07

And there you have it, people! We’ve spent close to 5 seasons with Dillon Simmonds, and tonight we got to understand him on a deeper level than ever before. I mean, it was already true, but tonight firmly established Dillon as the most fully realized character on the show. As for our titular character, well…

First things first, I actually think Zoe played her cards correctly tonight, despite generally being in the wrong. Giving Kat the pendant when she found it would have been the best thing to do, but she’s Zoe, so this was the next best thing. Giving it back just before or during the game might have caused animosity between the girls on the pitch, so Zoe instead went into pep talk mode. And get this: she actually sounded genuine!

Bruh, I am tide of these youngins and their drama. Eric was in the wrong in regards to the bag incident with Liam last week, but the situation is clearly more complex than that which Alba of all people should understand. As leader, she should sit them both down and have a fair and nuanced (or as nuanced as a 13 year old can be) discussion about *all* the factors that brought us to this point.

But this whole “Apologize! Don’t wanna? You can’t sit with us!” schtick that she’s pulling yet again does not sit right with my spirit. She’s minimalizing Eric’s feelings. Just because she’s ready to forgive Liam doesn’t mean Eric should be as well. Especially since her desire to forgive Liam conveniently lines up with her wanting/needing Liam to win some games. Maybe the cost of winning for Eric isn’t the same as Alba’s. And if Eric wants to run off and find himself a boo thang? YOU DO YOU, KING.

Jamie Johnson is a hot mess, and I am about to start printing #JusticeForBoggy t-shirts, 50% off Pride Month special. On the one hand, I am interested in these recent plot developments concerning Boggy because it means that his character will finally get something to work with. On the other hand, WTF Jamie? I admit that I don’t have the best memory, but did Jamie not look both ways when he was in the street? Wasn’t Jamie’s Dad not looking where he was going because he was too busy seeing dollar signs? Due to their own negligence, that makes both of them more at fault than Boggy. Not that we should be assigning fault anyway.

How, how did Jamie arrive at the conclusion that the accident was Boggy’s fault? And this is why I say those kids don’t appreciate Boggy. What he did for Jamie is perfectly in line with him being there for him literally every step of the way since season 1. Even Boggy’s involvement in the accident was because of him wanting to protect Jamie. You have to wonder, does Jamie really appreciate Boggy? His convo with Freddie said one thing, his actions told a whole nother story. If I were Boggy, I’d write Jamie a nice letter saying how I feel and then leave him all the way alone.

And Mike and the team kept heralding Jamie as someone they should be fighting for. Jamie not wearing any team colors, not cheering anybody on, not even wanting to be in a picture is to me not somebody I want to be inspired by. If I were Kat (having shown up with no knowledge of the team), I literally wouldn’t even think twice about Jamie since he clearly cannot be bothered. I get that he’s angry, but he can’t just lash out at the people who have been most supportive of him.

Anyways, I am glad that the team won and went out on a high note. Even though Jamie’s a mess, this was still Dillon’s episode. And it was great. We got more “straight” puns, we got the hintiest-hint of Delliot, but most importantly we got several acknowledgments of how far Dillon has come. And now that he’s coming to terms with himself *and* may have secured the bag with Foxborough, Dillon may well be entering the greatest years of his life yet.

It’s amazing just how far we have come with gay characters. When I was Disney Channel young, that was simply unheard of. Now, so many teen dramas have some variation of LGBT representation, and what with shows like this, Diary of a Future President, and Andi Mack, even the tweens are starting to tell more stories. I will say that my peeps from across the pond are much more firm and uncensored and unapologetic about their message, which makes the whole thing feel more genuine.

So there you have it. Now that we’re halfway through, there’s a few questions left to answer. Will Jack show up one more time to get Zoe more pressed than a panini sandwich? Is Dillon about to embark on a coming-out journey, or is he about to be outed? How much of a dick can Liam and Dillon’s Dad be? Is Delliot even a thing? Will the girls get their chance to get on the women’s team? Will Alba stop doing the absolute most? Is Indira ever going to come back on this show in any capacity? Will there be justice for Boggy?

Questions that need answers.

BTW, y’all did notice the missing scene, right? And did you see that the Indian guy who replaced Kat was behind Mike again when he cheered at the final goal?

I JUST WATCHED THE FINALE AND OH MY GOSH MY HEAD IS SPINNING I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS

I’ll give you my quick thoughts and then jump into Muffy because you already KNOW I am saving a whole section for them

Celia’s growth was amazing. I love that she went from being strict to being so carefree and trusting of Bex

Bex in that wedding dress 👏🏻 Bowie in that Tux 👌🏻 like they didn’t have to do that but they did 😭

The slow dance was SO CUTE OMG

I loved that all of them sang lady Gaga- the song was perfect for them but sad Garren wasn’t on stage with Sofia

However, they showed the ships singing together and whenever they showed Buffy they showed Marty so I was like 😩😭👏🏻 ya know

TJ playing the piano was all I could have asked for

I LOVED the scene when Cyrus and Buffy talked about “relationship woes” like wow. 😭😍 that hurt because the parrallels were so blatantly obvious but Terri made sure to take EQUAL time to explain their woes with each character.

Also WTF KIRA STOP TOUCHING TJ AND PUTTING YOUR ARM ON HIM. This has been my PSA

I LOVED watching TJ just RIP into Kira. Boi 👏🏻 told 👏🏻 her 👏🏻 off. He literally called her out for bullying and asked her to stop (likkkeeee not only was it great bc he was protective boyfriend mode™️ but because he showed growth. He defended Cyrus for something he used to do). It was great and a no Kira redemption was the best way they could have done that and it was was beautiful. 💯

I loved that Jandi scene! I have said I am actually ok with Jandi, but they needed more maturity. Andi needed to find herself and Jonah needed to be ready for a relationship. In time and when Andi can handle conflict, I think they would make a good pairing. But WITH TIME, like they said. Until then, Jonah has the cute bracelet. I think that was such a valuable lesson for kids to not rush something, just because you like someone. Make sure you are actually ready because crushes aren’t all just about endgames (which will sound hypocritical considering what I write next lol) but that they are a LOT of work and you have to have your head on correct to make sure you can handle it. Just *chef’s kiss*

I know Muffy was around this time (sorry my thoughts are so scattered- I am writing this post watching it so not everything is in a congruent timeline) but I am going to come back to them like I said earlier. They have a special reserved™️ section in this post 😍👏🏻

THE B[REDACTED]H SCENE. WAS SO CUTE. UGH

I laughed so hard at TJ’s name but gave all my uwu’s I had left post Muffy (which weren’t many but I reserved some for Tyrus) to that cute little line from Cyrus about how he liked his name 😭

That 👏🏻 hand 👏🏻 hold 👏🏻

Like watching TJ’s shaky fingers get all close I COULDN’T BREATHE-

They really out here making all benches gay huh?

And you could see how SHY TJ was talking to Cyrus. It was so sweet how flirty and awkward he got. I loved it.

I’m sure their hands were v sweaty but that’s a point for another day lol

I thought the scene was handled well considering their limits and tried to keep my expectations low, but TBH I was pretty bummed they didn’t actually say the words that they liked each other. I wish there was more dialogue than vague questions ya know? Oh well 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was also really REALLY hoping for some canon Muffy and Tyrus scenes at the party and kept checking the time stamp during the last scene hoping they would show SOMETHING but they didn’t say anything. Even just a quick “Hey I’m dating this person now and I love them all my uwu’s” would have been fine but it was like that was completely forgotten

However I’ve seen a few Tumblr posts about someone working on making fic text posts with the GHC talking about their canon ships so I’ll take what I can get :)

The Andi Shack and Andi getting into SAVA didn’t surprise me, but it was sweet

I really liked the whole side by side photo thing they did

What did surprise me was Jonah saying he loved Andi 😭 like that was such a sweet sentiment and I was just like, “Alexa play I Cried by Jonah Beck” you know?

Kinda also dissapointed we heard nothing more about Jonah’s panic attack’s, the hole in the wall, and possible Kippen Siblings

REALLY REALLY want an Andi Mack movie- they made a Lizzie McGuire one after only two seasons so they could with AM to address any plot holes (BUT IF THEY DO IT THEY BETTER HAVE CANON MUFFY AND TYRUS JOIN SO HELP ME BC MIRANDA WAS GONE IN TLMM AND I WAS READY TO SHOW HANDS)

Also other side note: I got kinda frustrated with all of the dancing/singing scenes. Like they were cute but also felt like a lot of wasted screen time (much like 3x19 or the Jonah/Cyrus camping scenes) when other plots could have been addressed

And no speaking lines for Amber? At all? Like...? Even with the Jonah stuff? Or redemption paralleling TJ. IDK seemed a lil wack to me

Ok here’s the good stuff

Muffy:

Again, Alexa play “I Cried” by Jonah Beck BECAUSE OH MY GOSH THEY WERE MY EVERYTHING

Surprisingly didn’t cry as much as 3x14 but I think that’s because I was shaking so bad (seriously I looked like I just went through a terrifying haunted house and stayed overnight in it, my hand trembling so much)

I rewatched the scenes WHICH ONLY MADE IT WORSE BECAUSE I CRIED MORE

I enjoyed writing my fics, but really really liked the way Terri handled this

I loved all of their scenes dancing together and it was funny because after Cyrus and Buffy talked, Buffy was like, “he doesn’t like me” but then Marty spent the ENTIRE night like RIGHT NEXT TO BUFFY. Not with the other girl. Literally physical space is not a real thing with them. Watch when they dance, or when they see CeCe in the Dino costume or any other time, Buffy and Marty are ONLY next to each other and Marty even moves closer to Buffy when they are all huddled around CeCe if you watch closely enough

The frog parallel? 😭👌🏻

Buffy addressing Marty instead of the other way around? 😭👌🏻

Marty “what’s going on?” 😭👌🏻

I loved when Marty called himself a dope 😂👏🏻 13/10 sweet boi

Also, watching Buffy get worked up because they can’t have a real conversation I’m 😭😭😭 you could see actual tears in her eyes and THEN GIRL WENT RUNNING OUTSIDE FOR SOME FRESH AIR

AND GUESS WHO CHASES AFTER HER- I’M—- UGHHHHHH I’m getting worked up thinking about it tbh

Marty tries the conversation again and she SAYS SHE LIKES HIM. NO HESItation what kind of ROMANCE—

And then it was literal poetic cinema when he said he NEVER STOPPED LIKING HER AFTER THAT AWKWARD PAUSE AND GRABBED HER HANDS

It was so SOft-

And then they KISSED AND IT WAS REAL

I got my Muffy kiss 💅🏻 I just. I. You guys don’t understand. I was shipping this WAY before anyone really got on board. I remember trying to look up Muffy fan videos after two episodes of them together because I already fell in love with them and there was one like barely edited thirty second video on YouTube. I tried to post something on here and like two people liked it. I LIKED THEM WHEN BASICALLY NO ONE ELSE DID AND SO I FEEL LIKE I AM ONE OF THE MOST DESERVING OF THIS SHIP BEING ENDGAME AND NO ONE CAN FIGHT ME ON THIS JUST LET ME LOVE THEM

MUFFY KISS (sorry needed to say it one more time for emphasis)

And then they walked away together with their arms around each other 😭 If you watch closely Buffy kinda tucks her head into his arm and I’ve seen fics of them doing this so it made me heart 💗💓💓 when they actually did

I JUST WANT TO SEE THEM AS A CANON COUPLE IS THAT TO MUCH TO ASK

Please Terri Minksy, I beg of you, if you don’t get a S4 make a movie but it is REQUIRED BY LAW that Muffy and Tyrus are in the ENTIRE movie- being canon and cute. They don’t even need angst but I still want scenes with them together just being in love.

I will be spending the entire next week in complete denial that this show is over, while rewatching this episode ten times and reading every Muffy fic I can find. Thanks for coming to my Tedx talk.

Episode 7 and general thoughts

Okay, I’m officially hooked on this season/arc.

Go is indeed baby and ash being concerned gave me all the feels and stuff. That part of the episode also proved my point from last week about Ash mentoring Go on a variety of different aspects of being a trainer; not just catching Pokémon, but battling as well. Also, Go had a lot of “damn, ash is pretty freaking good at battling moments”. I’m not gonna spoil what Ash did during the battle but it was indeed a “WTF?” moment.

Anywho, Go and Scorbunny are wholesome and I feel like the English dub is going to fuck up his voice. I also STILL am speculating how DisneyXD is going to subtitly “censor” the scenes where Go could be portrayed as having a crush on Ash or if they won’t at all (thank you, Andi Mack). Do I plan on watching it Dubbed? NOPE. JSJDJDJDJSJD

Andi’s Choice episode thoughts

Alright, this is less a review and more an elaboration on what sucked.

To start with, just to get it out of the way, it really bothers me how unrealistic Jonah’s guitar learning curve is. After a week of playing guitar for 30 minutes a day (because when you don’t have calluses, that’s all you can handle) I could kind of play a single chord and was struggling with two others. I think it was 3 months before I could struggle through “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” at a snail’s pace. I’m not god’s gift to playing guitar, but even savants aren’t that good at their first instrument within one week. They might be able to struggle through a full song on day one, but again, they have never played guitar before, their pinkies are weak as fuck and don’t even get me started on bar chords.

It just makes it that much clearer that Jonah is just a musician so they can have Asher play his own songs on screen. That’s all Andi Mack is to them, Asher’s starting point.

I will say, Asher’s acting was superb. It’s really hard to fake being nervous, but Asher did it so well.

Now, onto my new least favorite character: Bowie.

All I can say is wtf. Andi stayed with him for at least a night, maybe more, so I have to believe he knows how Andi feels about Jonah. And yet…THIS? It’s perpetuating this idea that as long as a guy tries, a girl should just fall at their feet.

Secondly, Jonah didn’t write the song. Bowie wrote the song, about his daughter. I’m not even going the creepy route (though I easily could). But the idea of “you get nervous, so I’m going to write a song and you’re gonna sing it and then you won’t panic” is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. Also, DON’T TELL JONAH HE’S AMAZING, if you’re acting like his teacher, and you are, HELP HIM GET BETTER. No one gains anything from being told they are perfect, least of all, Jonah.

Bowie was just in the wrong this entire episode, and, not to mention, last episode and then I remember the emotionally cheating on Miranda, which STILL hasn’t been addressed properly, they even make it out to be a good thing. I can’t with him anymore. Terri is going to have to do a lot to redeem him for me.

The Bex subplot was 100% unnecessary. It came out of nowhere, and Cece’s way of handling the situation sucked. I know some parents are that overbearing that they will write their children’s college apps, for instance, but Cece hasn’t been like that with Bex, or Andi, for that matter. I just think that was OOC, if Cece had sent all her friends to Bex or something like that, maybe, but this doesn’t show pride, this is fraud, and Cece of all people should have known that.

Secondly, we knew the Fringe wasn’t doing great, but there was no indication it was in THAT much trouble.

Onto Walker. Again, that was…weird. I don’t have a clue what his deal is, but he literally told Andi that he’d give her her space with her friends, and then shows up. Until he showed up I was pleasantly surprised by how level headed he was acting. I really HOPE something is off with him, cause if not, that’s really bad writing.

Finally, the kiss. My problem isn’t with Cyrus’ reaction, though, since he’s told Andi, nothing has changed, which is…weird. But more Buffy’s. She’s been Cyrus’ shoulder to cry on throughout all of this. Even just a pat on the shoulder or a look or “you okay?” I needed her to say SOMETHING, and she said nothing. It’s OOC for Buffy and THAT bothered me.

I like to watch Andi Mack because it's a super good hearted show with delightfully corny lingo and an Ultimate Frisbee team called the Space Otters. It's my once a week cheesiness to help offset the bleakness of Fargo and The Handmaid's Tale. What I'm confused by is the weather in episode that aired last week- everything indicates that it's been nice weather out, light jackets if anything, with no mention of later autumn or winter or anything- and then all of a sudden it's snow EVERYWHERE in the background of one scene! Which is not seen again in the rest of the episode! WTF? Then I backread the tag for the past week and no one else seemed to care? Also WTF?
