The start of normalizing conversations about depression is to do just that - start normalizing it. Today sucked. It's my favorite holiday of the year. It's supposed to cozy and filled with family. And while I had a great time with close family last night, I went through a lot of feelings on my own today. It's my grandma's birthday today and I woke up and immediately missed her. I reminded my friends that I was thankful for them and felt guilty for not telling them more often. Then I felt worse for being sad and guilty on a day I should be thankful. However, I tried my best to remind myself of this today: it's okay to feel your feelings. I'm allowed to be sad, angry, or confused and I'm allowed to be grateful, joyful, or happy. I can even be sad and grateful all in one go. I'm human and it's okay to feel my feelings. I hope you find peace in your feelings, tonight. I hope that even when depression is trying to sabotage your day that you come out the other side, ready to kick its ass tomorrow (because it's okay if you're too exhausted to do it now). Was in third grade, i liked that pretty girl in class. She was sitting right across the room. There was this moment we shared when we both were adjusting our seats and our eyes met. We smiled at eachother. One time, i just wanted to say that I love her. Saw her playing with her 2 friends during a break. I went to her but stopped within some feet away. I was fucking scared. We never talked nor exchanged any words with eachother the whole year, and changed schools the next year. By mid year at the new school, i recognized her. She had changed completely, physically.( i learnt later that she had an operation for a fatal health issue and that it'd taken a heavy toll on her). The only words that came to my mouth was, " are you 'blah blah'?". She shyly nodded. I smiled and went on my way. She was definitely my first crush. Years later, i was surprised that i too was her first......life is funny. Sometimes i wonder, what if i had approached her, disregarding the fear...how would that have turned out?
