It was a beautiful day in Teyvat, and you expected nothing much to happen. That was until you saw Bennett, one of your closest friends, head out of the city. Not thinking much of it, you headed out yourself to get some supplies you needed from Stormterror's Lair.
It was a normal day in Mondstadt, the sun was shining, birds chirping, and the weather was beautiful. Even the wind thought so as it gently flowed through the city, each town nearby, and the deep green woods. Every citizen and townsman knew that such a perfect day could not be wasted. People were up and about, doing chores or walking around to enjoy the early morning state Teyvat was currently in. Of course, some had other plans and left the city of Monstadt to venture into less explored land for a good chance at striking gold. Well, it would be a good chance if the person trying their hand at it weren't Bennett.
He made his way down the dirt road, which he eventually had to break off from to reach his destination: Brightcrown Canyon. He heard of a treasure so good that many other adventurers went to retrieve, but were never successful and instead came back with an injury.
He felt like today was his day, a bright smile was on his face as his mood stayed lifted. Eventually, he made it to the circled area on a map he was able to get Mika to draw up for him, and using what knowledge Kathryne told Bennett, he took a moment to look around.
The grass was gently blowing, the trees following as the sun beat down not too hot. He was enjoying the view, the sounds, the smells… all until a loud thumping sound of some heavy machinery slowly grew closer, stopping right behind the unlucky adventurer. He paused, eyes wide as he slowly turned to look behind him, making sure he wasn't hearing things. Seeing a Ruin Guard directly behind his back wasn't comforting at all, and neither was the arm movement the machine made as it was just about to attack. The moment its arm came swinging down, Bennett was able to jump out of the way with no harm, drawing his sword the moment he was at a safe distance.
His eyes looked around, searching for some sort of plan to finish this enemy off without too much damage happening to himself. As he tried to plan, the machine twisted its top half and planted itself stable to the ground below to blast the second attack from its back. Bennett realized that he had no time to come up with some concrete plan, and instead planned to just go with the flow of which the wind gave him. He ran off with a quick step and kept his sword firmly in hand while keeping an eye on the enemy. Of course, the last one just slightly scraped his side, burning his clothes and skin slightly before it hit the ground behind him. He winced to the pain but kept a steady position as he slid to a stop before bolting straight towards the machine. He got close enough to swing and damage the metal arm that had attacked him only a minute ago, yet it didn't do much, so to his panic, he unleashed his elemental skill. The flame he knew how to protect himself with grew in the blade of his sword as he took another swing. The panic was worth it in the end as the arm was now clean off and its torso was sliced into.
"It worked..!" Bennett was awed at his actions, surprised they paid off the way they did, causing his confidence to grow.
With a bit of a chuckle, he stepped out of the way from an attack the Ruin Guard tried to execute and lunged the moment after to give a regular slice another try, but this time just at its wires. With ease, his slice was completed. Bennett looked back at the Ruin Guard with a bright smile on his face, his eyes practically stars as he was beyond thrilled.
As much as he told himself not to get cocky, he ended up going down that path. He felt unstoppable and grew more and more careless with his strikes and dodges, giving himself no break in between each slice. As he was about to make another swing, his body had calmed down from the adrenaline rush it had and his sword felt way heavier than it did ten seconds ago. Of course, the enemy didn't stop and Bennett took an official hit this time. His body flung to the rock mountain just next to them, and as he harshly hit it, falling to the ground, he struggled to breathe normally again. He sat his top half up, looking around for his sword while trying to stand on his own two feet.
Suddenly, as if you were an angel sent from above, you swooped in using your Anemo elemental skill. Quite literally flying in, you circled the Ruin Guard before using your weapon to give it a blow straight to its weak point, shutting it down for good.
Landing on the ground with a light step, you hastily looked around in search of the person who seemed to be having a rough time with the Ruin Guard. You found him on one knee, the hand he used to hold his sword also helping him with stability as his other hand rested just atop his knee.
"Bennett!" You spoke with worry as you rushed over to his side, placing gentle hands on his shoulders. "Are you okay?"
Your voice, the words you spoke, your touch, it all comforted him… and also made him extremely flustered, though he would never dream of you ever knowing how he feels. Never. You deserved someone better.
"Yeah… I'm fine." He gave the best smile he could in your direction as you returned it with a stern look. "Promise, I just need to catch my breath. Nothing but a scratch on me!"
"Yeah right, you've got dirt all over your face and arms… and clothes. I will give you one thing, though, there is only one scratch on you." A sigh escaped your lips as you stood up, grabbing his wrist and pulling him behind you. "Cider Lake is just up ahead, we can use the water there to clean the dirt off, and then we'll go straight to Barbara for that cut on your side."
"I could've done this myself-."
"No, let me help you. I don't trust that you'll actually do what I say you should." You interrupted him, to which his cheeks were dusted with a red as he chuckled in embarrassment.
The two of you reached the sand just before an area of Cider Lake and you let go of the boy's wrist, grabbing a handkerchief you had neatly tucked away and dipping a part of it in the clear blue water. Turning over to Bennett, you see him looking at you in a confused manner. You stepped closer and gently held the side of his face, causing him to shut his eyes tightly. You softly wiped the dirt from his face and as he realized what you were doing, he opened his eyes with a flutter and watched your focused face. Butterflies erupted in his stomach as he looked at your pretty face, specifically your eyes. Their color perfectly fit to your face, your personality, your smile.
The thought of your smile brought his gaze straight down your face and to your lips. His cheeks grew more and more pink by the second as his heartbeat raced, basically jumping out of his chest.
"Bennett?" He looked straight back at your eyes the moment he heard his name, and embarrassment struck like none other. "You seemed lost in thought, are you sure you're okay? You didn't hit your head, did you?"
"N-no! No, of course not." He avoided eye contact as best as he could as he scratched the back of his head, processing his thoughts.
"Well, if you say so." You kept your gaze on him, watching his flustered actions. "Ready to head back to Mondstadt?"
"Yeah." Bennett gave his usual thumbs-up as you two began walking off towards a dirt road a bit away, the way there being a silent walk.
"You think I could join Benny's Adventure Team?" The question you asked sprung up out of nowhere, and the words shocked Bennett.
"You want to join my team?" Bennett asked you, almost as if he didn't believe you and wanted to make sure you knew exactly what you said.
"Yes." Was all you uttered in reply as you gave him a soft expression, your pace calm on the road back to your home city.
"You know I'm the most unluckiest adventurer out there." He told you, knowing you could find better. "I'm the unluckiest person, even."
"Benny…" Your words were like honey, so soft, so gentle, and blessed by the wind. "You're not unlucky, you just sometimes don't plan everything and that's okay. We all have our flaws, no?"
As you stopped your footsteps, so did Bennett. He just stared at you as you turned to face him, a caring expression was placed upon your face as you slightly approached him.
"As the wind gently blows, the spark in your hand grows. It develops into something more of a flame, and with every hardship, there's a prize that only you can claim." You told him. "This is something Lisa told me on a day that I dreaded going through, and I thought it fit your scenario. Being unlucky has nothing to do with your everyday experiences… I think maybe the reason you feel that way is because that's all you tell yourself. You're strong Bennett, and it's obvious even you don't trust in your own abilities."
You took a step closer to him, then another one… and another, "I trust you a lot, Benny, I really do."
No words fell from his lips as he watched you, though he never realized he was starting to lean down just slightly.
"You're not unlucky." Was the last thing you stated before closing the gap between the two of you with confidence, no doubts in sight.
Bennett's face was a deep shade of red as your lips touched just as gently as your hands held onto the sides of his face. His eyes had practically melted closed as he sank into the kiss he never knew he wanted so badly. His hands hesitantly made their way to your hips, barely pulling you in any closer, but the touch brought butterflies to your stomach.
Bennett and you spent the rest of the day together, completely forgetting about whatever treasure could've been hidden in Brightcrown Canyon.
