Omg ghouls are so fascinating and sad.

They generally make me sad because of how miserable they are in modern games. They are basically walking cadavers who are at various points of deterioration. In early games, they shared similar sentiments about humans as Super Mutants but it has completely flipped where a lot of them despise being ghouls now. They want cures and long for what they lost in being a smooth skin. It's sad a lot of them live with the inevitable fear of becoming feral and are discriminated against so aggressively. Some places have shoot-on-sight orders, and others treat them like second-class citizens who need to be accompanied by a human.

Canonically we don't really know what allows a ghoul to become a ghoul. We know it's caused by excessive exposure to radiation but it's not constant. We have ghouls like John Handcock who got ghoulified through drugs which was never really mentioned before in the series. Some people ghoulfied on purpose but their methods are not universally sustainable. There's no real reason that a ghoul becomes a ghoul, though, some in-universe theorist believe there is a gene that causes ghoulification, ergo, allows one to become a ghoul instead of dying when exposed.

It's sad because a lot of these ghouls could shed a lot of light on issues in the wastes. A lot of ghouls are pre-war and if not, very very old and knowledgeable. They are also one of the few groups that can go into radioactive zones which would help in clean-up operations. Like I can understand the unease in seeing something so similar and yet terrifying but non-feral ghouls just want to be left alone or allowed to integrate in the reforming societies.

i'm going to be real with you guys for a moment. i don't think i'll continue following bsd much after this point

#i take back what i said about being excited for what's to come. i mean i am. in a very general impersonal way. #but the way the series is going. if the ending of the anime is going to be followed by the manga in a similar direction #is just very different from the silly armed detective agency vs port mafia authors with superpowers slightly high-stakes slice of life #that i originally signed up for. i've felt this way the whole decay of angels arc and just stuck around to see what happens #and because i care about the characters. bsd was always a character-focused manga for me #but the direction it seems to be taking is this massive epic entire-world-at-stake military scifi drama #where super epic power-up style ability weapons (and one-off overpowered nameless ability users are introduced and killed off in the same #scene. like the time manipulation catgirl) take the forefront at the expense of actual character focus and character development #like why are most of the (original) cast completely unaccounted for in what was meant to be a satisfying ending. #did asagiri forget that atsushi is the main character. why did tachihara's and sigma's arcs get cut short like that. #and frankly i feel like bsd started to take this direction from storm bringer onwards. the focus and scope of it is very different #to for example the untold origins or dazai's entrance exam or even 55 minutes. but if i were to theorise i would say that the scope of #the current direction of bsd must have started germinating during the 55 minutes light novel. if you can see what i mean #anyway more importantly i find that the tone is now entirely different from early bsd. it's just not the series that i fell in love with #so i think it's best that i stop here before letting it turn sour like jujutsu kaisen is to me now. #i have the manga (and anime) that i can reread (rewatch) up to the perfect crime arc whenever i want #i can reread the sskk fight of volume 20 whenever i want. i can revisit sigma and nikolai's chapters. there's wan. there's the light novels #and there's the wonderful fanfics and fanart and so many metas to read. that's what brings me joy more than the series itself nowadays. #that's all. end of era i guess. to an extent

maybe it’s because i’m a faggy little writer and not a woman of faith, but i really really thought the point of the story about isaac and abraham was just to make you really live inside a man who spent three days walking with his son knowing that at the end he would die, and waking up every morning for the rest of his life and looking his son in the eyes and knowing that he was willing to kill him. how is this not a horror story.

Alastor's sex- and romance-repulsed - The only indication of this is his reaction to Angel's advances and he reacts in the same way EVERYONE reacts, because Angel's advances are shown to violate literally everyone's boundaries (Vaggie even refers to this as Angel sexually harassing the staff). This can be seen with Alastor, Husk, and Sir Pentious. Alastor doesn't like being touched at all and this is made abundantly clear throughout the show. As someone who is sex-repulsed and aroacespec, a single canon instance (two if you count the pilot) of Alastor being repulsed specifically by Angel's advances doesn't mean he's sex-repulsed, it means Angel's advances violate his boundaries. (An alternative reading would be that he's just not interested, since the one instance of him being made uncomfortable by Angel's advances in the main series is him saying "Never going to happen." That still wouldn't mean he's sex-repulsed.) I'm not trying to say you can't headcanon that he is sex- and romance-repulsed but stop acting like it's canon that he is
