Meta has lost about two-thirds of its value since peaking in September 2021. The stock is trading at its lowest since January 2019 and is about to close out its third straight quarter of double-digit percentage losses. Only four stocks in the S&P 500 are having a worse year.
Facebook’s business was built on network effects — users brought their friends and family members, who told their colleagues, who invited their buddies. Suddenly everyone was convening in one place. Advertisers followed, and the company’s ensuing profits — and they were plentiful — provided the capital to recruit the best and brightest engineers to keep the cycle going.
But in 2022, the cycle has reversed. Users are jumping ship and advertisers are reducing their spending, leaving Meta poised to report its second straight drop in quarterly revenue. Businesses are removing Facebook’s once-ubiquitous social login button from their websites. Recruiting is an emerging challenge, especially as founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg spends much of his time proselytizing the metaverse, which may be the company’s future but accounts for virtually none of its near-term revenue and is costing billions of dollars a year to build.

Brazil's Richest Man Loses Billions as His M&A Machine Breaks Down
Tumblr media
It wasn’t too long ago that Jorge Paulo Lemann was arguably the most respected—and feared—corporate baron on Earth. The Brazilian billionaire and his two longtime business partners were scooping up multinational giants at a frenetic clip and folding them into the vast empire they built from Rio de Janeiro.
In 2008 it was Anheuser-Busch InBev. In 2010, Burger King. Then came H.J. Heinz, Tim Hortons, Kraft Foods Group and, finally, in 2016, the biggest of them all: brewer SABMiller. With each new acquisition, Lemann, inspired by his idol, former General Electric Co. Chief Executive Officer Jack Welch, would order up deep cost cuts. Perks were eliminated, payrolls slashed, factories shuttered.
It was excruciating for rank-and-file employees but thrilling for Lemann’s financial backers, who pocketed windfall gains as the new, leaner companies churned out ever-bigger profits. The 3G model, as it was dubbed on Wall Street in honor of Lemann’s principal investment company, 3G Capital Inc., was so ruthlessly effective that it began to revolutionize thinking in C-suites across America. Even Warren Buffett, who invested in a couple of the deals Lemann struck, seemed mesmerized. “Jorge Paulo and his associates are extraordinary managers,” he gushed in 2013.
But then, just like that, it all went wrong for Lemann. In early 2017 he was rebuffed when he tried to acquire European conglomerate Unilever Plc for $143 billion and merge it with Kraft Heinz Co. This exposed a fundamental flaw: 3G’s obsessive focus on costs, rather than on expanding the business, meant it needed a never-ending pipeline of big targets that it could buy and squeeze savings from so it could keep boosting profits. Starved of fresh acquisitions, 3G faltered. The prices of the stocks of Kraft Heinz and Anheuser-Busch (which is technically outside of 3G) cratered, Lemann and his partners’ collective fortune shrank by $14 billion, and the vaunted 3G model had, for all intents and purposes, died.
So Lemann, now 83, already had a distinct lion-in-winter feel to him when Americanas SA, a Brazilian retail giant that he and his partners have been major shareholders for decades, collapsed into bankruptcy last month after a $3.8 billion hole was discovered in the company’s balance sheet.

BlueWeave Consulting, a leading strategic consulting and market research firm, in its recent study, estimated the Middle East and Africa beer adjuncts market size at USD 2.51 billion in 2022. During the forecast period between 2023 and 2029, BlueWeave expects the Middle East and Africa beer adjuncts market size to grow at a CAGR of 4.83% reaching a value of USD 3.32 billion by 2029. The Middle East and Africa beer adjuncts market is influenced by several key driving factors, including a growing consumer demand for diverse beer flavors and types, leading breweries' efforts to innovate and experiment with ingredients, a rising preference for craft and artisanal beers, and the region's expanding young population seeking new beverage experiences. Also, the increasing disposable income in some Middle Eastern and African countries contributes to higher beer consumption and the exploration of unique adjuncts. Regulatory changes, such as relaxed alcohol laws in certain regions, further stimulate market growth, as does the cultural acceptance and integration of beer into social and dining experiences.
Beer Adjuncts – Overview
Beer adjuncts are non-malt ingredients added to beer during the brewing process to enhance flavor, body, or other characteristics. Common adjuncts include grains like corn, rice, wheat, and oats, as well as sugars, fruits, spices, and even coffee. While traditional brewing methods adhere to the purity law (Reinheitsgebot) that limits ingredients to water, malt, hops, and yeast, adjuncts can add unique flavors and textures to beer. They are often used in lighter lagers and American-style beers to lighten the body and reduce production costs. The use of adjuncts is a subject of debate among beer enthusiasts, with some favoring traditional methods and others embracing innovation.

Global Alcoholic Beverages Market Is Estimated To Witness High Growth Owing To Changing Consumer Preferences And Rising Disposable Incomes
Tumblr media
The global alcoholic beverages market is estimated to be valued at USD 516.3 billion in 2022 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 8.4% over the forecast period of 2023-2029, according to a new report published by Coherent Market Insights.
A) Market Overview:
The alcoholic beverages market includes a variety of beverages such as beer, wine, spirits, and others. These beverages have been consumed for social and leisure purposes for centuries. They are also used in various cultural and religious ceremonies worldwide. In recent years, there has been a significant shift in consumer preferences, with an increasing demand for craft beers and premium spirits. The market is also witnessing the emergence of new trends, such as the growing popularity of low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages.
B) Market Dynamics:
The growth of the alcoholic beverages market can be attributed to two key drivers: changing consumer preferences and rising disposable incomes. Firstly, consumers are increasingly seeking unique and flavorful alcoholic beverages, driving the demand for craft beers, premium spirits, and niche wine varieties. Additionally, the rising disposable incomes of consumers in emerging economies have led to an increase in their purchasing power, enabling them to afford more expensive and premium alcoholic beverages.
For example, the increasing popularity of craft beer can be seen as a driver for the market. Craft beers offer unique flavors and are often produced by small-scale breweries with a focus on quality and craftsmanship. Consumers are willing to pay a premium for these products due to their distinct taste and limited availability.
Another driver is the rise in disposable incomes in developing countries. As the middle class continues to expand, consumers have more money to spend on leisure activities, including alcoholic beverages. This has resulted in an increased demand for premium and luxury products in these regions.
C) Market Key Trends:
One key trend in the Alcoholic Beverages Market is the growing popularity of low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. With an increasing focus on health and wellness, consumers are seeking alternatives to traditional alcoholic beverages. This has led to the development of a wide range of low-alcohol and non-alcoholic options, including mocktails, non-alcoholic beers, and spirits. For example, the market for non-alcoholic beers has witnessed significant growth in recent years, driven by health-conscious consumers who want to enjoy the taste of beer without the alcohol content.
D) SWOT Analysis:
Strengths: Increasing consumer demand for unique and premium alcoholic beverages, rising disposable incomes, and a growing market for low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages.
Weaknesses: Government regulations and restrictions on advertising and promotion of alcoholic beverages, increasing health concerns related to excessive alcohol consumption.
Opportunities: Growing consumer markets in emerging economies, increasing demand for craft beers and premium spirits, and a shift towards healthier drinking options.
Threats: Competition from non-alcoholic beverage alternatives, stringent regulations on advertising and labeling of alcoholic beverages, and health-related concerns impacting consumption patterns.
E) Key Takeaways:
The global alcoholic beverages market is expected to witness high growth, exhibiting a CAGR of 8.4% over the forecast period due to changing consumer preferences and rising disposable incomes.
The Asia Pacific region is anticipated to be the fastest-growing and dominating region in the market, driven by the increasing urbanization and rising middle-class population in countries like China and India.
Key players operating in the global alcoholic beverages market include Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV, Bacardi Limited, Beam Suntory Inc., Constellation Brands Inc., Diageo Plc, Heineken Holding NV, Molson Coors Brewing Co., Pernod Ricard SA, SABMiller Ltd., and Carlsberg group. These companies are focusing on product innovation, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic partnerships to gain a competitive advantage in the market.

Budweiser in crisi
