The last infograph gave me carpal tunnel, so this one was just going to be photos, but apparently I just couldn鈥檛 help myself and added a few doodles as well.
Either way, I hope this infograph enriches you! 馃槈

Rat enrichment is the best bc you can just use random leftovers and shit from the fridge.
They got corn, carrots/pepper/apple, and raspberry yogurt covered noodles inside mustard greens. The hamster got the little basket with mustard greens, diced apple/pepper/carrot, and a dab of yogurt on top.

The rats knew Something Was Up. 馃槀 Gula stayed put for me to get a pic of her attacking the corn.
No pics, but the hedgehog & tenrec got some chihuahua wet food plus bugs, and the cats got wet food for dinner, though Shilo hasn't shown up for it yet.

And to finish it all off, the dogs got the rest of the yogurt on lick mats! Spring is a useless baby man per usual & needed to be held like a baby to eat his - and then he still didn't finish, so Emma got the rest. At least he ate his dinner afterwards, two hours late.

hey! i came across your shark stereotypy and i was wondering if you could explain what stereotypy means in the shark context? i got the description you gave and it was really interesting!! but I'm a bit lost in the menaing itself. english isn't my first language so i apologize if I'm missing something obvious here lol
No problem!
Animal stereotypy is purposeless behavior that animals show in captivity when they can't express their natural behaviors. It is kind of like when a person is impatient or bored, so they start pacing back and forth. Other animals like sharks do something similar.
In sharks and rays, this could include:
pacing (swimming back and forth),
interaction with transparent boundaries (trying to swim up the glass),
surface breaking behavior (repeatedly putting their face out of the water for no reason)
and in rays it could include repeatedly spiraling up
A way that zoos and aquariums break stereotypy in animals is through enrichment. Enrichment is something that encourages behaviors animals would have in the wild and gives them mental stimulation. It is kind of like when parents give children various toys or decorate their room or give them fun foods to encourage play, learning, and healthy development. Sharks and rays can live in complex environments in the wild, they may need:
varying temperatures in different parts of the tank
some flow/current in different parts of the tank
underwater structures, for example structures that mimic coral reefs for reef sharks
an appropriate social environment (some sharks would not get along together)
food enrichment (ex. increasing the amount of feeds, providing forage, treats used in animal training)
new objects to interact with
new smells
If you want to learn more, these are the slides from my Wildlife Conservation Biology class taught by Amy Cook and Alison Styring, where I am getting this information.

How to properly take a cat outdoors: on a leash
Leonard is a retired mouser, aka he used to be a working farm cat who used to be used for the purpose of hunting down barn mice and rats. He was retired and given to me when I moved out to the city to keep my apartment rat and mouse free and i take him on enrichment walks in his little fluorescent vest and leash! I plan on also getting him a little baby Bjorn at some point albeit he is 22 lbs (about 10kg) so that may be hard. I used to be very pro outdoor cat but not so much now. Leonard lived a hard and dangerous life and was not good for the wildlife. He and all other animals deserve safety and proper conservation and care :) for advice of humane and safe mouse and rat population control that doesnt necessitate outdoor barn cats, dm me!

Here's another pic of him watching me write slow burn fanfic.

I had fun with animal food yesterday. Ed got a pretty salad with collard greens & turnip greens, and (from the yard) dandelion greens, plantain, violet leaves, and violet & dandelion flowers. The rats got some wheat toast with corn & peas baby food spread on it, topped with a dry seed/grain/veg mix.
