I had the pleasure of working on the Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart. Such a bittersweet experience. Venture Bros. Was such a huge part of NY animation for so many years. Sad to see it end but it was awesome getting to work on the final feature film.
This was on of the Handy Dandy factory BG’s I painted. Design by EZ (my apologies for not having the full name)
SS/O to Chris Fisher for welcoming me on the team and for your help throughout the production

'Leo' Review
#Leo Review: "The team balanced middle-school humour w heartfelt lessons to make this a well-rounded feature for the whole family. The songs are the principal aspect of this film bc you can thread many ideas with lyrics that can connect to the audience."
By: Amanda Guarragi
There is something special about an animated feature that can speak to children and adults. The ability to educate children about life and how to express their feelings while making it relatable for adults is no easy feat. Every adult has gone through something, and it has stemmed from childhood. Films that tell a universal coming-of-age story will affect everyone…

Unpopular opinion: as much as I LOVE Miyazaki’s work, I wouldn’t have picked The boy and the heron as the winner 😭 it wasn’t my first, my second nor my third choice. The animation was beautiful as always, but not innovative, and the story was all over the place. Spiderverse left me stuck to my seat, blown away by the story and the animation. Just thinking about Hobie who needed 3 different animations frame-rates is insane.

Fire and Water Romantically Vibe in Pixar's Elemental
What happens when the elements link in ways they never see coming? Its magically romantic fun ! #elemental
It’s easy to imagine the wind having attitude or fire being angry. A happy bunch of flowers could absolutely brighten the day of a lonely pot of dirt and water might be calm and collected one day and in a big hurry the next. But, what if the elements we all know were alive living and breathing organisms or people?
Set in Element City, where fire, water, earth and air residents live amongst one…

Animated Feature: The Spider and the Heron
The nominees are:
The Boy and the Heron
Elemental
Nimona
Robot Dreams
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
This may be one of the most hotly contested categories of the night. Critics have described The Boy and the Heron as Hayao Miyazaki’s magnus opus — a powerful endorsement, given that the Japanese master has been the hand behind masterpieces like Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. That he came out of retirement for this work and spent seven years on it is enough to champion its narrative. The film has already picked up the Golden Globe and the BAFTA.
But Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may have a broader appeal to Academy voters and has collected some serious silverware of its own this season, namely the Annie, Critics’ Choice, and Producers' Guild awards. The PGA winner typically goes on to win at the Oscars.
Still, I go back and forth on this one. Miyazaki already has an Oscar from 2003, but so does the Spider-Verse series, and in fact, much more recently (2018). But Spider-Verse is a “to-be-continued” film, and the Oscars often tend to reward the final installments in such franchises (à la Lord of the Rings). It really is a toss-up.
For me, Heron represents an auteur animator exhibiting his mastery, presenting a perfected version of what he has done for decades. But Spider-Verse represents a new path forward, growing leaps and bounds even from its first installment, which also forged new pathways in the field of animation.
I have no qualms with any of the other nominees in this category. I admired Elemental for its technical prowess and Nimona for its inclusive themes and undertones. And I have a soft spot Robot Dreams (this year’s version of Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) for its ingenuity and charm. I was surprised not to see some of the more commercial contenders come through, like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, or Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.
Who will win: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
But look out for: The Boy and the Heron
Who I’d vote for: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
If I could add one more: Suzume
