GO SEE STRANGE WORLD!!!!
Oh my gosh, I went with a friend today, and the two of us were just blown away! The visuals, the music, and THE STORY are just so incredible! There were a lot of pretty funny jokes (although it doesn't take much to make me laugh, so my idea of funny might differ from everyone else's). I know that the character Ethan caused some controversy because he's gay, but anyone who boycotts this movie because of that is a fool, because Ethan was such a sweet and amazing character. This movie covered so many good themes that are important to talk about. It also does good job of providing that classic Disney heart, and I can tell just how much care the crew put into it. Also, this was my first time watching the new Disney 100 logo in theaters, and I nearly cried ... It felt like the beginning of a new era and my inner child was thriving for a few seconds.

what I say: I’m fine
what I mean: in Mulan (1998), during the Bring Honor to Us All sequence one of the women sings “then you’ll see/once we’re through/boys will gladly go to war for you”; then, later on when they’re trying to bust open the entrance to the palace and Mulan arrives saying “guys I’ve got an idea”, the circle closes and the boys follow her with no hesitation, because they’ve seen throughout the movie that she is a good strategist and she’s got the best ideas out of the whole lot of them. They do gladly go to war for her, but not for her external beauty and femininity like the woman intended. This is why that movie is such a masterpiece of contemporary cinema and-

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Review
Tumblr media
Hey Folks ADHD be damned and I have a backlog of reviews to do, Sorry. I will try to make it up to anybody that cares. I saw the new Spider-Man and I am excited to talk about it.
Music: I will say that the pop music isn't as pronounced in this one as it was in "Into the Spider-Verse". The music is still really good, primarily focusing on the orchestral score. Of the score I think that it is really good, the various leitmotifs coming in together very nicely over and over again. Every Spider-Person has their own style, Miles' sound is very different from the pop-ish rock of Gwen, or the Indian sound of Pavitr or the punk sound of Hobie or Miguel's more Sci-Fi sound. Every world feels different and vibrant and well done. As a whole it was great.
Plot: The Plot of Spider-Verse this time around is focused more on a Gwen than Miles. The story starts and ends with her story and the story is really the thing at every major beat in the movie that is used to push the plot forward. Gwen feels lost and like she doesn't trust her father and thus runs to Miguel and his "Elite Spider Corps". Funnily enough this time Miles kinda knows what he wants to be and what he wants to do and what he needs to do. While not privy to all the information he shows himself to be fine and his plot involving The Spot being one clearly building to greater heights in Beyond the Spider-Verse. As a whole the movie was pretty darn good and the plot was well done all around. (I avoided too many details so as to not spoil anyone too much)
Themes: The Theme of trust and fate are quite big this time around. Gwen and Miles having issues trusting their families with this huge secret they both have. The Fate of all Spider-People to go through the motions of Losing a love/Gwen Stacy, losing an Uncle, the captain of the police dying etc. All of these ideas being ingrained as necessities to a sustainable UNIVERSE for Spider-People. Fate and Trust both being major themes is interesting as it Critiques the idea that Spider-People need to be the same exact story every damn time. The movie's themes in my opinion are really well done and I enjoyed them a lot.
Overall The movie was really good, the Animation was stellar, changing with every character's world. The Plot was an amazing part 1. I will say that we need to see them stick the landing to get a definitive scoring but as of right now I think it is a 9/10. The only thing holding it back is that it isn't as self contained as "Into the Spider-Verse" was.

( No Spoliers ) my personal review of Nimona. The art style is quite unique and beautiful. The characters have a lot of depth, life, and nuance to them. The story has many layers and depths to it. 15/10 I Absolutely Recommend.

The Sea Beast really said you can do something heroic but still be in the wrong and our history is a false narrative created by the wealthy and wars are not only started by but also continued on for generations by greed and the blood of the people are on the hands of the powerful and it's not enough for only one side to turn the other cheek and big the "bigger person" to stop the cycle, truly the perpetrators need to own up and they need to change and become better than they were in order to stop the cycle.
And also when it comes to the government... they are few and we are many.

Why The Red Turtle Is a Great Watch And An Even Better Rewatch
Before reading this you may want to read the recap of the movie I posted.
Tumblr media
Spoilers ahead
This animated movie directed by Micheal Dudok De Wit was co-produced by studio Ghibli and Wild Bunch in 2016, this is a France and Japan based masterpiece that depicts a few things, with a cast consisted of only 5 voice actors (three for the son throughout his life stages and one each for the parent).
It heavily focuses on the circle of life as throughout the film we slowly see our main character (the man) live out his life on the island as well as the stages of growth in the son but also shows how short sighted humans can be as well as showing the beauty of nature.
In my opinion this movies is beautiful, the fact that there's only one word of dialogue throughout its entirety "hey" makes you more emersed while the surrounding sounds make you feel like you're there in that moment with them. there's also the crabs which I believe act as a form of comedic relief as they don't really seem to do much besides play around and give the viewers something to smile and chuckle at.
In Japanese beliefs the turtle or tortoise is a symbol of longevity or immortality which is shown as the man lives his entire life until he dies of old age and the woman returns to her original form and returns to the ocean. She may possibly be immortal herself as she never seemed to show signs of weakness at an old age, her hair turning into white may be to mirror the man's so that he isn't awake that she will outlive him but I'm not sure.
The man also almost immediately starts working on building a raft to head back to civilization without even thinking about the long term like how far he would have to travel and the possibility of having to spend his life on the island.
There were a few things left unanswered like:
Who was the man before the island
How did he get stranded in the ocean
Why did the turtle not allow him to leave
Was it real or a dream
What happened to the son
How did they start the fire on a deserted island
But somehow having unanswered questions makes the movie even more interesting, to me this movie will always be a favorite of mine mainly because of how minimal it is. There's not a complicated plot, the characters are likable, the little crabs always make me smile despite the sad meaning behind the movie, but the things I love the most are the animation style and scenery designs. It really takes "there is beauty in simplicity" to a new level.

me and my sister just watched the mario movie and all we did the whole time was overanalyze it come up with unnecessary lore for the story, world and characters.
Was very impressed by the film's decision to secretly be about a conflict resulting from the cultural divide between the toads and the koopas, with both populations loving violence and being unable to communicate properly as a result of it, all culminating in a dimensional rift between two realms that resulted in thousands of dollars worth of property damage and possibly a few causalities on every end.
Can't wait for the sequel.
