Back in 2020 when I worked at WB I wrote a pitch for a Hex Girls show. After I finished writing the entire pitch bible I had just started style exploration with Thorn before being told WB was not interested in hearing my pitch. So here’s the sketches I did manage to start before stopping entirely haha

We were working on how you make a pitch for your animation projects at school this week, and this was my poster for it. Quite lazy as we didn't have much time
To summerize the animation idea:
Lyric is a lesbian looking for love but everyone else just want a good time, so she becomes the thing that others want her to become and therefore becomes a "party animal". She gets her dopamin boost from it, but it's only short term, destroying herself to get the thrill. During a party, her act becomes too much and she ends up having a panic attack in the bathroom. As her panic attack gets worse and worse, a kind soul finds her and snaps her back to reality.

Before the New Year hits my place, here's my last big class art/animation project I did for 2022. This project is called Neat vs Messy, and it serves a show concept reflecting a particular clash I personally encountered when working with others. Namely, neatness vs messy.
The premise:
An uptight, tidy artist named Filbert has been given an art studio to do his work by the studio manager, Janus. Little does he know, Janus caught a severe flu when he was assigning studios to freelance artists and accidentally gave the same studio room to Sloan, a messy artist who is the polar opposite of Filbert. With Janus being out cold recovering from his illness and no extra studio room offered, Filbert and Sloan have to share the room as they work on their projects, which is easier said than done.
Main Characters:
Sloan: A messy, mad artist who rarely sleeps when making ink and paint art. Completely disorganized yet somehow knows where everything is, and loves to sing. Androgynous.
Filbert: An tidy, analytical artist with a love for classical art, especially oil paintings. He likes everything to be neat and organized, and hates messes and loud noises. Masculine.
Supporting Characters:
Janus: The art studio manager. He ends up getting delirious after catching a cold, which leads to a chain of events that causes Sloan and Filbert to be stuck in the same art studio.
Slick : Sloan’s best friend and punk rockstar. Often comes from time to time to play rock with Sloan.
Sloan’s Cat: Sloan’s pet cat. A source of Filbert’s ire.
Sloan is the first character I made for this project and reflects a lot of feelings when it comes to making art. I don't have a clean working station and I find inspiration to come better in more loose drawings and concept works.
The inspiration for Sloan's design is that Inkling from C-Side in Splatoon 3 (I heard the name is Charlie). When I saw those deep, dark eyelids, messy hair, and that electronic laughter, I knew what kind of design I wanted for Sloan.
This project and its characters belongs to me, and I don't want people taking it without my permission. I just wanted to share this before the year ends.

Engagement challenge: 3rd year pitches (23/1/24)
For my newest brief, Engagement Challenge, I was tasked with reaching out to a client, such as a commercial company, local business, charity, organisation or other suitable client to seek an animation brief from them to complete for my project. This could be anything from designing a character, making a short animation to advertise their company, or a small role in another animation project, such as a costume fabricator.
Another type of clientele that we were encouraged to look into was the third-year students at the university. These students needed extra hands for their projects such as costume fabricators or assistant animators. During our lesson, they pitched some of their ideas to us.
Mohamed Javert needs a stop-motion costume designer for his stop-motion short film about werewolves. I am somewhat hesitant to work with this type of project, as while I have made costumes for my own stop-motion characters in the past, I wouldn't say it's one of my strong suits yet; however, I’d be willing to try it.
The other was a multimedia short film about a coffee shop run by monsters utilising 2D animation, stop-motion and 3D animation. This one is looking for some character animators, which I might be able to provide through my stop-motion skills.
The next project was a short film called ‘Roadman’, which needed photos for the backgrounds and voice actors for the main characters and the monsters.
While I mostly specialise as an animator, I must admit voicing the monster would be fun. Plus, I have done voice-overs for my own short films, so I have some experience in voice acting.
The last project shown was ‘The Nomad’, a 3D animated film. I didn’t have much interest in this one as I don’t specialise in 3D animation and most of the jobs they were looking to fill were not suited to my skills.
Overall, I was intrigued by the projects on display in the lesson. While I will mainly focus on finding a brief from a professional company/charity client, I might pursue one of these projects as a side part of the project.
