certain fb group for animal care people just makes me sad sometimes cause it’s either just people looking for engagement by asking a very easily searchable question with “cute animal pic for tax!!1!1!1!!1!” so they can get some likes or people discussing actual literal human rights violations that their workplace is trying to commit and being like “but am i the bad person for buying donuts for my team when susan in HR who i never interact with is lactose intolerant?” or people using the anonymous post option to have impromptu group therapy

anyways take it or leave it, i might honestly write about this but I think it's a really cute idea to pair puppy Leon with another hybrid reader. I especially think the dynamic between a puppy and a bunny would be interesting to analyze especially, because bunnies/rabbits/the like are prey animals and have a flight instinct.

it might not be the same interaction as a cat reader where there is genuine antagonism between both sides before they start liking eachother. I find a corvid or bird reader would also merit exploration

Quirin: Kinda clueless/does not understand social media, but he's trying. Var is coaching him. Saves cute animal videos and extremely compressed old memes he saw on FB to show people later.

Hector: Most likely to start drama in the comments of a post. Overuses ellipses and the sunglasses emoji and signs his texts/tweets with x's and o's.

Adira: Knows how to use social media competently, but I could go either way on whether or not she actually chooses to. She's aloof enough to maintain a minimal online presence... but she also has the ego.

I feel like all 3 of them like different flavors of 'get motivated' and 'inspirational' type posts/memes.

There's a big meme in the spanish community of Evangelion (though it's become so popular that is a very known meme in the anime spanish speaking community in general) about Asuka wishing a Happy Thursday to everybody

It started as an gif made by some FB page admin that randomly used Asuka for their gif. The Evangelion community found it funny and it became a meme- then they managed to get the actual VA of latam dub to read the line and it became bigger

Alrighty, let’s talk about ARLO as a WOC In LITG

This post WILL contain episode spoilers, but not script quotes. If you wanna read the episode summaries yourself, the lovely @mrsbsmooth did those for you.

So, Arlo’s become a victim of the classic FB trope. Let’s make a black, female character a target for fandom hatred.

Firstly, her appearance. Images got leaked before her and Meera’s arrival but we barely knew a thing about either of them. We only got that little part at the end of episode 13 in which we learn their names, their occupations and who they have their eyes on.

Now, Meera was eyed up by two boys really, Alfie and Eddie. She’s also a model.

Arlo was eyed up by Suresh but interested in Dana too. She’s also a boxer AND a possible future LI.

So, we knew so little about them and yet there was hate and not to poor Meera but to (you guessed it) Arlo.

I’d seen countless digs at Arlo’s appearance comparing her to an animal, saying her eyes are weird, she’s cross-eyed, that she looks like she’ll be a snake. But not one nasty thing about Meera. And those people need to be asking themselves why they’re so willing to tear down a black, female character before we even got to know her? It’s looking kinda fucking gross.

As said before, you can look up future episode summaries on @mrsbsmooth page. But yeah, Arlo does continue to be a bit annoying and wind us up by being possessive and controlling. That old chestnut.

So the hate’s about to go into overdrive. I ask you now, think carefully about what you’re about to type and ask yourself:

Is that meme actually funny or is it kinda racist?

Is her appearance that way due to accurate ethnic features? (and again you’re kinda being racist being mean about them)

Are you treating Arlo the same as you would a white character?

People on fb keep sharing this "what animal do your friends associate you with!" meme and I just cannot. That is hazardous. Dangerous even, to our friendships health.

If they say the wrong animal, that's game over. That's it. Done. And then how am I supposed to sound reasonable over the fact that they said I remind them of a dog and not any of the 4-6 acceptable animal answers and cut ties with them?
