The other day, I finished a rewatch of the Spy X Family anime's first season (the dub version because I prefer dubbed anime over subbed) with my family, and...
I HAD SO MUCH FUN REWATCHING IT...!!! 😄
When I first watched both Cours of the first season of the anime as they came out, I remember enjoying the anime, but not as much as the manga. In fact, I was quite nitpicky about A LOT of things... Such as certain lines not being said the same, some voices not sounding like how I hoped or imagined (both in the sub and in the dub), or even some scenes having a completely different vibe than how it was portrayed in the manga...
Then I started to wonder if I actually just didn't like the adaptation of the Spy X Family anime, kinda like how I wasn't a fan of the adaptations of My Hero Academia season 5, Fire Force season 1 or even Black Butler season 1 (which in my opinion was a complete travesty of an adaptation compared to any of the other anime that I mentioned in this post... 😤) The main factor for my disenjoyment of these particular anime that I mentioned were mainly because I consumed the manga before I watched the anime... And because of that, I obviously had a bias towards the manga over the anime...
But during this rewatch of Spy X Family, I started to realize something... Maybe my disenjoyment and nitpickyness of the anime wasn't just because I read the manga first, but maybe it was because I was going through the anime same way I did the manga, by myself... And when I realized that, it all started to make sense...!! Sure I still some issues with anime on rewatch, but being able to share this story that I adore with the people that I love meant so much more to me than any of the minor problems that I had...!! 😊 Heck, my brother even told me some of his theories about Donovan Desmond after watching the season finale!! 😄 That alone made me appreciate this anime even more than I already did...!! 😁
Anyway, I guess what I'm getting at is that sharing things that you love with others is honestly one of best feelings in the world, and I'm happy to share my love for Spy X Family and other series with all of you and my family as well...!! 💗😊💗

Further Fairy Tail rewatch thoughts. Still in the grand magic game arc but the second half of it (final day of the games, we’ve met future Lucy)
Why do we need to add random siblings to all the random side characters?
Again the timeline is confusing
I refuse to accept that there’s only two celestial spirit mages left (Lucy & Yukino)
How does the magic system even work? How much is learnt vs something you’re just innately born with? Because the dragon slayers all learned their magic but we can at least infer from canon that Lucy comes from a line of celestial wizards going back several 100 years. Also can people just randomly switch what magic they use? Because Angel did it.

Rewatching Ranma 1/2 because it's on hulu and omg I relate too much to Ryoga Hibiki. The boy getting lost in his own neighborhood is literally something that has happened to me. But I'm jealous he's seen France, China, Japan, and Russia while getting lost, I just end up in a parking lot.

PowerBottom Zoro is Here!
I'm rewatching One Piece!
Unfortunately, the website I used to pour my Zoro-obsession into is virtually dead and all my old friends either lead adult lives (speak: don't have much time for fandom) or we've grown apart about what we like. So, I'm starting all over again! 🥳 🥳 🥳
Even on this rewatch, Roronoa Zoro is the baddest bitch in town! I'm a little salty his epiteth ain't "The Demon of the East Blue" 'cause he very much is a demon. And without the devil's fruit to boot!
A very gay demon, obviously. This ain't just a Zoro blog, but a blog to honor Zoro's bottom cravings! Be warned!

Black Butler, Rewatch: Episode 1
Episode 1: “His Butler, Able”
Before watching this episode, on a scale of 1-10, how much are you looking forward to seeing it again?
The episode that started it all. It’s okay not the best episode and I analyzed the entire first chapter so I have very mixed feelings about the anime’s take. Nevertheless, I still enjoy watching it.
Favorite screencap: (I have two just because I can’t think of one without the other.)

Favorite Moment:

I loved seeing this entire scene animated. The swift ability Sebastian displays to easily pull the tablecloth. I love how they focused on his concentration as pulled the tablecloth away and in an instant the cup settled with the wine now in the cup. The contrast of the Butler and Earl’s reaction in the scene was great. If anything they animated this scene wonderfully. I will never get tired of it.
Least Favorite Moment:

Ciel: I don't need to explain my actions.
So this dart scene always made me uncomfortable. I didn’t like what Ciel did. Plus when I actually read the manga he didn’t do this to Finnian or the others. I could see him doing this to Sebastian easily but not the rest of his staff. It kind of made him more of a cruel tyrant in a way. It doesn’t fit Ciel when it comes to those closely connected to him. He would not do something so cruel to Finny.
This entire scene makes him out to be a completely spoiled brat and makes the audience less inclined to see him as more than a wicked upstart noble.
Manga/Anime Difference Thoughts:
They definitely changed stuff from the original manga and these are some of things that stand out to me.
Tumblr media
Ciel summoning Sebastian. This is not how the manga does it. There is no cage involved it almost seems like a void is where they first met. I prefer how it is shown in the actual manga. The naked child under a sheet is just wrong. Thank goodness the Book of Circus follows canon.
Tumblr media
Sebastian is hinted at as being abnormal in chapter 1 but he is still considered ‘human’. In contrast, the anime plays up his supernatural abilities from the start. This is kind of a misstep they are missing out on the big reveal. I think if they kept with the original manga interpretation they could have made the big reveal rather shocking. One of the things I love about the manga is it starts giving hints to his demonic nature but it doesn’t show them right around.
Tumblr media
Who are you, good sir? Where is Chlaus? I can’t imagine why they changed him out. Except to have someone they could torture from the get-go. Missing out on an important overarching plot in the first book with the drugs because Chlaus isn’t there to give the evidence. That scene is necessary to understand Ciel’s role as Watch Dog. The anime just makes Ciel someone who tortures people to get his way. Also interesting to note it is Sebastian who greets the arrival whereas in the manga it is Ciel who welcomes Chlaus. From the beginning, it tells you what they think of their guest.
Tumblr media
Morning tea Earl Grey instead of Ceylon Tea. The tea set is different too. It is a bitter variety of tea while in the manga Ciel starts out with a citrus tea. The original tea in the manga fits with the little hints of his childlike nature and his love of milk with honey for bed. This tea seems to play on the fact they want things darker. On a side note, the entire reason I tried Earl Grey was because of Black Butler and it’s one of my favorite teas now.  I always thought it would be too bitter but after trying it I loved it so much.
What’s one thing you noticed/realized about this episode that you hadn’t before?
Tumblr media
The Portrait/Flashback image looks ghastly and for some reason, Rachel has black hair. This looks odd and given how she looks in the rest of the anime I think it was a mistake.
Tumblr media
The board game is still a good interpretation of the canon. I still enjoy the clever board game between Ciel and the bad guy. Even if it’s not in the manga it does demonstrate both Ciel’s intelligence and ability. Along with the fact he is a kid. Even in the manga Ciel is very prone to playing games it’s one of his joys in life. And it’s often used to show his detachment from the world and how he views life in general. So I think it was cool.
Tumblr media
Foodie moment. They did a great job with the food what can I say? I want to show each dessert that Sebastian serves Ciel just because it is delicious.
On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate this episode?
To be honest I started with the manga (when it was still limited in translation) for a little while but the anime is how I was truly got into Black Butler. The beginning never entirely endeared me to the characters or the story. It wasn’t until they got into the Jack the Ripper stuff that was in it for the long haul. When I did read the manga I really viewed the anime differently and from a writing standpoint I think the manga was better.
They changed so many things I loved about the manga. The episode feels inconsistent and the payoff isn’t here. While I like the torture of the bad guy toy factory manager it made the series even darker and paints a bitter contrast to the manga. Plus they stuff so much filler in here. It works I suppose for the anime-only season but it gives you a different viewpoint on Black Butler as a whole.
Celebrate it! (A little poem for you all.)
A lone visitor comes to call.
When will this foolish man fall?
Ravens stalk the night.
Danger lurks with frights.
Mishaps and chaos abound.
Yet still the Butler is profound.

So I've been doing rewatches to pass the time until Mob Psycho 100 S3 airs, and I rewatched Erased. And I have to ask the fans something.
Why do so many people ship Satoru and Yashiro?

Rewatching Trigun on Netflix.
The last time I watched it was in the early 2000s and I just remembered that I enjoyed it a lot but not really the specific bits that i liked. At first i was like why is this show so slapstick? Why did i like this back then? Persevered and I’m now on E22.
Man this show is so goood. Vash is such a good character and such a good representation of the ideals of pacifism. Like how hard it is to stick to it when there are so many easier, more logical options available. And the goofy slapstick is just a disguise, a layer waiting to be peeled to reveal surprising depths. It’s a lot like Rurouni Kenshin like that(which reminds me, I need to rewatch that)
This came out at the same time as Cowboy Bebop and has the same general themes of being a Western set in the future. The vibe is super different though and IMO Vash is a much more complex protagonist than Spike. Spike just seems to be super deep but actually just has enough depth for teenaged boys to find cool and mysterious. IMO the other leads in CB are much better and leave a more lasting impact- Ed’s story arc is heartbreaking. But hey, enough of the shitting on Spike, the point is that Vash is not as cool. But he’s deep af.
Trigun is on netflix and if you haven’t already, watch it. If you think the main character is annoying at first, that’s kind of the point, you’ll be rewarded if you persevere.
