Like, here’s this one guy that’s actually a walking trope and almost definitely boring, but every girl he meets falls ridiculously in love with him and then he marries them. all of them. now he has nine wives.
but the reverse?? Nope. A female protagonist with multiple male suitors must pick one and only one.
I mean, sure, as a women, I generally do not want to put up with a single man’s shit let alone nine unless they’re cats then bring ‘em on!! but this just seems like a double standard, okay?
What’s that one stupid anime trope called that’s like “beautiful inhuman girl ends up at Regular Joe’s home!! She’s shy and demure and doesn’t know anything about the human world!! Joe has to take care of her and teach her things!! Then they fall in love!!”
i am not immune to stories in which characters who have endured harsh, empty existences become absolutely transformed by someone’s sincere love for them and learn to live
OK, I know I usually talk about fantasy archery in a positive sense, but I think there’s also a place for (hopefully constructive) criticism of tropes that could do with improving!
If you like this sort of thing, here’s the full video:
not that we didn't already Know belos was full of shit, but it's even funnier knowing the titan was still alive the whole time and probably judging him
One trope I love is when the two characters are fighting and it comes down to one final attack from both, they hit each other faster than the eye can see.
One drops first but is still alive, the other still standing and seems victorious, but there already dead.
Jason *dying his hair black*: you know I started dying my hair before Robin.
Dick: yeah why?
Jason: their's like five red heads in Gotham and I knew as a kid for a fact that one was Ivy and one was Riddler. Then I became Robin to find out the other was Batgirl/Barbra and finally Kate Batman's cousin who's now Batwoman-
Dick: Yeah Red Heads in Gotham are either heroes or villains
Jason: -yeah so I didn't want to draw attention to myself.
Dick: ...Jay?
Jason: what?
Dick: I don't think it worked you've been a hero, villain and now anti-hero.
THEY MIGHT BE DOOMED BY THE NARRATIVE BUT GODDAMMIT THEY FOUND HAPPINESS WITH EACH OTHER AND CHOSE TO ENJOY THEIR TIME TOGETHER DESPITE THE INEVITABLE TRAGEDY AND THAT IS WHY I LOVE THEM
