What's something you always wanted to write into your Eleutherophobia fic that you just never had a spot for?

David. Love him as a character, even if I hate him as a person. But if I were to put him in the series, then:

This'd presumably have to involve him making some kind of deal with Crayak. And I don't want Crayak or the Ellimist in my fic.

The consequences for everyone's reputation would be massive and catastrophic. At minimum Rachel would get canceled by the internet. At maximum, the idea of charging all six kids with war crimes would suddenly be back on the table.

I have no idea what I'd do with him after the first scene or two of him interacting with the Berensons. Killing him would be inexcusable. But if he lives, he's going to do everything from rob banks to stalk Rachel to charge Jake with attempted murder.

Either he's no threat at all (because he's still stuck as a rat) or he's a life-ruining level of threat (because he's not stuck as a rat) to Jake. There is no in-between.

That said, I'd dearly love for him to interact with Tom at some point. Just long enough for them to get into a snake-measuring contest. And then for them both to discover that king cobras aren't cobras; king cobras are called that because they eat cobras for dinner.

I have a bunch of Voltron chapters I’ve been working on that I need to edit but today I’m thinking of posting something completely different.

I finally was able to look through a hard drive that I’ve saved for about two decades and found my old Rachel Marco fan fiction. (What is their ship name? Rarco? Machel?)

The writing is a little rough in places (younger me didn’t think anything of changing POVs and tenses or having endless paragraphs wit of one liners apparently) but honestly the idea was solid so I spent this afternoon editing it.

Are there still Animorph fans out there? Do people ship Rachel and Marco still? Cuz I’ve got something coming soon if you so!

Looking through my old notes again, I found a brief bit where a friend of mine (@lilacnothlit) and I discussed an Animorphs bodyswap fic. Details: The narrator was going to be Tobias. The bodyswap was caused by a Yeerk plot device that was supposed to interfere with the morphing ability - possibly a revisit of the Anti-Morphing Ray in a new form, or a Morph Scrambler, or something to that effect. Rachel and Ax switch bodies. Ax is terrible at being a teenage girl, but Naomi is busy with a case and Rachel's little sisters think Rachel acting funny is hilarious, so no danger there. Rachel hates having to live in the woods, so she promptly acquires herself with Ax's help and can be herself 2 hours at a time. Long enough for shopping trips at the mall, doing damage control at home. and hanging out with Tobias. Cassie and Jake switch bodies. Both are too embarrassed by the situation to do anything but put their noses to the grindstone and get through it. Luckily for them, Jake was already a fixture at Cassie's barn every other day anyways, so no one raises an eyebrow when "Jake" comes over to help "Cassie" with medicating the animals and mucking out the barn. Tobias and Marco switch bodies. This is where most of the problems arise, as neither of them is even remotely prepared for the kind of life the other leads. Tobias is also frustrated because the Side Plot involves yet another hawk threatening to take over Tobias's meadow, and Marco cannot, will not defend the meadow because he doesn't know how. Where Tobias valiantly and nobly exiled himself to the woods to live as a wild bird, Marco hangs out with Cassie and Jake all day, eating hamburger and watching television and doing his best impression of a teenage boy even though he's currently a bird and weighs 3 pounds soaking wet.

We never quite figured out a resolution. Maybe the device screwed with Visser Three's morphing ability too, so the Yeerks have to undo it and accidentally help the Animorphs in the process. Maybe the Animorphs manage to hold themselves together for a mission, steal the device, and get Erek and/or Ax to reverse it. I do know the Animorphs still being able to acquire their original bodies from each other and pretend to be themselves 2 hours at a time makes things easier, though.

            The facts were these: Thomas Berenson, aged 17 years, 5 months, and 11 days, was a slave to the Yeerk Empire. An alien slug living inside his head chose every movement of his body, from the first thing he looked at in the morning (his alarm clock), to the healthy and nutritious lunch that he consumed (a turkey and cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread and one pink lady apple), to the last thing he looked at before falling asleep (the constellation that pointed toward the Yeerk homeworld).

            But on this particular night, the eyes of Thomas Berenson, moved by the electrical impulses of Teska 224, could not focus on the constellation known as The Heaving Warrior, because they were too busy focusing on something that was happening in the elm tree in the Berenson backyard. An owl, tawny, silent and severe, was quickly becoming a teenaged boy.

            It was dark out, but it wouldn’t be for long, as the growing legs of the boy were inching into the area of the backyard that would set off the motion activated lights, which were incredibly bright and angled, perhaps, just a bit too high in the air.

            The creature pretending to be Thomas Berenson pressed a face up against the glass, trying desperately to see who would emerge from the feathery body disappearing in the backyard. The real Thomas Berenson, who was pretending not to be a creature, already knew what they both would see through his eyes, and was trying equally hard not to see it.

            A knock at the bedroom door interrupted them both, and in the split second that Tom’s eyes left the window, whatever creature or not-creature that had been hiding and changing in the elm tree was gone.

            “What do you want, midget?” the creature who was not Thomas Berenson demanded.

            It was fairly obvious what was wanted, as the boy’s brother, Jake Berenson, was standing in the doorway holding a large plastic basket full of clean clothes.

            “Mom wants you to fold your laundry,” Jake Berenson said. He was also pretending not to be a creature.

            Thomas Berenson was relieved to see his brother, not because he was in need of clean laundry, though he was, but because he had been gripped with fear that the shapeshifter in the backyard had been none other than his younger brother. This was of course ridiculous. Tom knew that his brother did not have the ability to turn into an owl, and therefore could not turn back from an owl to a human. However, that did not clear up the mystery of who was in the backyard doing such an impossible thing.

            The light switched on in the backyard, and Tom’s head snapped back to the window.

            “Hey, you gonna take these or what?”

            “Just drop them,” Tom’s voice replied, frustrated and disappointed that he seemed to have missed whatever apparition had been lurking in the elm tree in the center of their yard.

            Jake walked over to Tom’s bed, and turned the basket upside down, spilling the clothing across the basketball-colored bedspread. He then dropped the basket atop the pile, turned oh his heal, and left the room just as the doorbell rang downstairs.

Structured like an actual Animorphs book with a dumb diversion at the beginning, high-stakes violence and body horror in the middle, and the aftershocks of trauma at the end. But this one also has making out.

Headcanon that right at the end of the war someone misunderstood Marco referring to themselves as “Animorphs” as that being his family surname, and everyone thought it was the funniest thing and Rachel said that if he survived he had to legally change his last name to Animorphs and he said “obviously it’s the only option” and so not even 3 days after returning to Earth, he’s at the courthouse becoming Marco Animorphs.

reread Akira and realized something. Tom is not the type to make waves (never told anyone about Escape to LA). Jake is Jake. both of them are completely out of the habit of telling their parents about things. Did Steve and Jean find out about Muffins 2: The Revenge from a tabloid news article?

This is the funniest possible way for it to go down, so. Yes. Headcanon accepted.

On second thought, Steve finds out about the events of Akira from a tabloid. Jean finds out about it in the form of Tom suddenly transferring half a million dollars into the bank account she helped him set up as a teenager, because that's even funnier.

I finally managed to catch up on reading Dæmorphing by @featherquillpen now that it’s come to a close, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. I ended up with very strong visuals in mind for these four during the final chapters, so have some Andalites on the house!

Design notes and extra art below the cut.

Aximili’s design was the quickest and easiest to pin down. He looks like the Andalite standard, to me. His design is probably the simplest of the bunch but I think it’s still my favourite.

Tobias was really fun to figure out: I gave them a gentler, more aquiline profile than Ax’s. I wanted them to look androgynous (to exemplify their frollis morph between Ax & Estrid) as well as to have a subtle beaky hawk-like quality to everything. Their mane also flips up at the back, a little like crest feathers. I slanted their colours more towards Ax’s own to keep their family resemblance (with a cool-toned nudge from Estrid).

Estrid became one of my favourite characters by the end of the story -- I thought giving her a bit of an ‘edgy teen’ heavy mane felt appropriate to her characterization. I like to think that she starts off with her mane styled back more professionally, until by The Presence of Justice it’s just all in her face, a total mess.

Mertil’s patterning was inspired by the mid-chapter art in Shattered, where both he and Gafinilan have cream-coloured patches across their bodies. That the piebald splotches streak into his hair and give the illusion of him going stress-grey is a fun bonus.
