I’m on episode 19 of the Animorphs TV show which is available on youtube btw and I’m gonna be honest,,, I don’t hate it

I don’t know if I’m just getting used to it being bad or if the quality of the show has actually gone up, but I’m really into it

And yeah it’s slowly deviated further and further from canon, but for some reason I’m not even mad. It still feels like Animorphs yknow? It’s all clunky dialogue, 90s pop culture references, moral ambiguity, and war crimes just as KAA intended

And they didn’t whitewash the cast??? Which is really nice??????? Cassie and Marco are both played by POC actors??? And Marco is definitely gay for Ax

Anyway I highly recommend giving it a go, it’s not quality tv by any means but it’s thoroughly entertaining

one of the funniest underrated parts of animorphs to me is the fact that time travel is a surprisingly common plot point, and yet it kinda gets glossed over because it almost never factors into the story in a way that actually matters. like. jake dies crossing the delaware but gets better on a technicality. there were aliens on earth at the same time as the dinosaurs but the asteroid got them too. time travel is a known phenomenon that the andalites have studied, but we don’t actually get any explanation for it because ax was distracted in class that day. everyone went back in time 24 hours and then died and forgot everything. two separate members of the main cast are different varieties of time anomalies and really the only effect it has on them is tobias getting over his family issues. jake is shown a prophetic vision of a world where the yeerks win and we just never get an explanation for what the fuck that was about. every time time travel is brought up, it contradicts at least one other time travel plotline. this is the series that taught me to never take time travel seriously in fiction and i can’t thank it enough for that. this is hilarious.

it is funny though how kids' shows are so so so careful about death, no one's ever killed except MAYYYYBE the big bad, all those random side characters are fine, here have a quick shot of them before we leave just so you know they really did survive that 50-foot drop into a stormy sea,

and meanwhile kids' books nearly all agree that it's not an adventure until it has a body count.

#to be clear I don't mean the heroes killing people #that's frankly a separate question #but bad guys come with collateral damage #even if they're nameless extras who are never described as more than a body in the street #and quite often the friends the hero meets along the way #will not all make it to the end #edit: actually I do also mean the heroes killing people #atla being so so so careful to show random mooks surviving and having the fire nation take prisoners all the time #vs animorphs going 'yeah we kill people. yeah we've got ptsd. what of it' #vs that one vivian vande velde book I read where the protagonist is really really stressed #about creeping up on a mook with a rock to bash him on the head #bc *what if she kills him?* she's just a teenager she doesn't know how brain trauma works she doesn't want to be a killer #to be clear animorphs and this book are on the same page

I always wanted to know what happened to Hildy and his two kids. My HCis that Eva found them and got them together

My toxic trait is that I simply don't believe that Eva lifted a finger to help Edriss's family. I think the world where she would do a thing like that died when she saw the replay of the death of Allison Kim and screamed ''I should never have helped you, kill her, you have to kill her'' on the yeerk equivalent of the senate floor. I also think that Darwin had a 60/40 shot of dying in the final stages of the war. Hildy was very likely killed immediately after the trial. I do wonder what happened to Madra. Sorry if you were aiming for fun lighthearted after-canon theories. That is simply not my MO.
