A male Surf Scoter takes flight from Kanuti Lake at Kanuti National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska
In winter, surf scoters are found in abundance around Alaska where they come to feed and mate. They can be fun to watch as they "surf" while landing, dive for food, and bow in their mating ritual.
