By the time they started the walk home, it was pouring. Frank pulled up his hood and waited to see if dinner with their friends had put Matt in a good enough mood to not call him on it.

They made it a block. “It’s still fifty degrees out,” Matt said, hands in the pockets of his leather jacket. “I guess you didn’t need a coat after all.”

Frank shot him a look. “It was clear when we left.”

“I said it was going to be raining on the walk back, not the walk there.”

“Next time I’ll ask if you smell rain before I go anywhere, yeah? That what you want?”

“It was the atmospheric pressure, not the smell,” Matt said easily, like Frank didn’t know what revealing any detail about his senses cost him. Frank shook his head, huffed in annoyance when rain fell from his hood into his face.

Matt grinned then offered out his hand, stopped moving his cane. Frank put it in the crook of his elbow and gathered Matt close, feeling the welcome heat of Matt’s body against his own.

Still, by the time they made it the few blocks to Matt’s apartment, Frank was freezing. Frank stripped off the drenched hoodie on the way to the bedroom, tossing a mild “fuck off,” behind him when Matt laughed. He pulled open the dresser drawer Matt had given him, then remembered he hadn’t done laundry in a week, and hadn’t moved enough of his things here to have more clothes. He’d gotten the key six months ago, kept a toothbrush here for much longer, but Matt hadn’t asked him to move in, and Frank hadn’t brought it up. He didn’t want to ruin whatever this was by putting a name to it.

If he asked Matt to borrow something, Matt would tease him about it for the next fifty years. If he took something from the laundry, Matt would refuse to sit to close to him until after he changed and showered. He put the drenched hoodie back on.

“What are you doing?”

Frank glanced behind him, saw Matt had already changed into a pair of sweatpants he’d kept on the bed, the jacket and button-down replaced by the ratty Columbia sweater Frank wasn’t allowed to mention whenever Nelson was around. The one time he’d asked Matt if he’d wanted it, the debate over whose it was went on for an hour.

 “Nothing,” Frank replied. “This actually’s the warmest thing I have right now is all.”

He began moving back to the living room, planning to take the side of the couch closest to the radiator and steal the throw blanket. Matt’s head tilted, then he sniffed. “You don’t have anything else clean, do you.”

Matt walked over to stand next to him, rifling through one of his drawers until he offered Frank a bundle of bright red fabric. It was a cable knit sweater, a little on the larger side, but right now Frank didn’t care. He changed into it, closed his eyes when the warm, dry yarn hit his skin.

Matt handed him an extra pair of sweatpants to replace his jeans, then lead them back to the living room. He took a seat on the couch and then gestured at Frank to join him. Frank ended up half on top of him, chest to chest, and Matt grabbed the blanket off the back to cover him with.

“Warm enough now?” Matt said, just enough teasing in his voice for Frank to catch.

“For now,” Frank said. “Patrol’s gonna be hell tonight, though.” Matt hummed, noncommittal.

Frank pulled back enough to glance up at him, trying to read his expression. “Thinking about staying in?”

Matt did his best to shrug, beginning to card a hand lazily through Frank’s hair. Frank grunted and dropped his head back down in content. “I’ll keep listening, see if we’re needed. But with the weather…” There would be fewer muggers and rapists out in this kind of downpour, and they didn’t have anything larger planned.

Frank was alright with that. He didn’t mind taking a night off, and Matt could use the extra sleep.

They laid there in silence for several minutes. The chill had been all but chased from Frank’s skin, and he said, “Never seen you wear this sweater before. S’warm.”

“Yeah, it’s wool. Took a case a few years ago, suing a doctor for medical malpractice. Our client was retired, but she knitted each of us a few sweaters. That’s the black one, right?”

Frank hesitated. It was as black as a fire truck, or a Santa hat. “Yeah.”

Matt stayed quiet for a second, then sighed. “It’s the one that Foggy said I should start wearing over my suit.”

Frank half-smiled against the side of Matt’s neck. “Yeah.”

“I guess I should be grateful. Karen said she could be mistaken for Barbie in one of hers.”

Frank huffed a laugh. “Would take it off her hands if I could fit in it. Wool’s expensive. You don’t wear it ‘cause of the color?”

“It’s wool,” Matt said in a disgusted voice.

“Yeah?” And?

“It itches.”

“Huh.” Now that Frank was paying attention, it was a bit itchy, but the feeling faded with his concentration. Still, if he could feel it, must be much worse for Matt. “Next time, ask your client to use cashmere yarn.”

Matt laughed, and Frank smiled again, broader this time. There was so much blood on his hands, but he could still make his—boyfriend? partner?—laugh.

Frank was half-asleep when Matt said quietly, “I can clean out another drawer if you need.”

Frank blinked open his eyes, pulled back to watch Matt’s face. “What?”

“So you don’t have to do laundry every week. It gets expensive.”

Frank glanced away and then back, trying to decide how to ask the question. “A drawer?”

“Two? A closet? Some space under the stairs for your weapons?”

Frank blinked, swallowed. “I mean, uh. I got a safehouse with all my shit in it.”

Matt nodded. His eyes flicked towards the floor, pointedly away from Frank, then back. “You can keep it, if you want. But you don’t have to. If you want.”

Frank looked away this time, trying to decide. “Yeah,” he finally said, then shifted closer to kiss him, once, gently. “Yeah, alright.”

he's really good at haircare/just likes to take care of his partner :)

in his younger days, he had beautiful chest length hair!! he spent a lot of time taking care of it, keeping his hair nice and healthy.

so naturally, he'll help his partner take care of their hair as well. he'd teach you how to wash it, dry it, put it in a good protective style before you go to sleep (if you have longer hair).

when the two of you cuddle, he'd play with your hair, braiding it, twisting it, just feeling. he'd scratch your scalp and run his fingers through your hair, saying it feels nice on his hands (???)

he'd also grab a fistful of your hair and pull your head back as he fucks you (doggystyle, most likely), short or long hair, he doesn't care. he likes to hear the slight sound of pain mixed with pleasure leave your lips when he wrenches your head back. he'd also grab a fistful pounding you into the mattress (missionary, probably), but much more gently this time, cupping the back of your head as well.

Sadly, I cannot speak from experience. My love and I found each other through pure coincidence! I had no idea how perfect he was when I met him.

Fun fact: He pursued me first, and I was very hesitant about our relationship at first! Of course, my feelings were there, that was undeniable, but giving into to love like that? I was scared of loving too much once again! (all from past experiences, saddly!)

My advice is: Let your guard down. Allow yourself to experience love, to savor it, and give yourself fully. Just be prepared to face rejection. Do not let it hinder you! I faced HARD COLD pain and rejection to meet my love.

Put yourself out there! Go out, join communities, speak and reach out! Make yourself known, you'll draw them in like that.

you know i was thinking about this ask and then realised that literally most of the characters either just don't get information about their families or have dead mothers. that's rough!

so i assume this is about the Main Three (although i barely consider gale a main character) and their moms. and maybe snow's mom since we technically did hear about her as well, so she counts. i doubt i could say anything very nuanced about the role of the moms since i don't really think about them as much as the other characters and there's actually relatively little said about them and their personalities/lives, but here goes.

if we start with the obvious main character, katniss, her relationship with her mom is obviously complicated because of the neglect and abandonment. i think those are strong words especially since mrs everdeen was grieving her dead husband, and i sympathise with that since i never went through that pain. regardless, katniss does have a point: yes, mrs everdeen is entitled to a mourning period and was in unimaginable pain, but she had an obligation to her children that she unfortunately wasn't capable of fulfilling.

i don't blame or condemn her for how she acted, i think she's a good, kind, and lovely lady, but katniss was correct in believing she was in the wrong for not being there for her children. i think she was representative of katniss's fears about falling in love - losing a husband to the horrible cruel world that snow created, being left incapacitated and utterly broken, being weak enough (katniss's words, not mine) to abandon her own children. katniss carried the generational trauma of her mother's pain with her, and her mother was the reason she blocked herself from others so thoroughly and wanted to remain guarded and defend herself from emotional intruders. her mother wasn't the source of strength and dependability that katniss needed in her life, which was why katniss so often chooses to be alone rather than lean on others, especially her own mother who has broken her trust. her mother perpetuates katniss's greatest fears, and it was only with distance away from her and time in that relationship (since mrs everdeen didn't go back to twelve and we don't hear from her in the epilogue) that katniss could move on and be with someone who was willing to provide that emotional support and hope.

then we have peeta's mom, who is by far worse than mrs everdeen ever will he because of her abusive and generally terrible behavior towards others. she's mean, unkind to katniss, and physically hurts her own son. because we know so little about her situation, it's easy to assume she's just a Dragon Bitch Monster Lady since she wasn't relevant enough to katniss's story to go into more detail with, but like mrs everdeen she probably had her own struggles and human trauma and her own dreams and feelings of love. there's no excuse for her behavior but i doubt that she's just an emotionless monster. as for her role, she's an example to peeta of what not to be, and he became gentle and morally principled despite having a terrible role model for a mother.

hazelle's the only one with an actual name, and katniss definitely seems to respect her a lot - going off of what i remember from the book. katniss acknowledges hazelle's hard work for her family and her attitude of always taking care of her children. while mrs everdeen does love her children and even katniss knows that,i think hazelle was more of a role model of how a mother should behave in the face of grief according to katniss.

if you're asking about how the moms act, then there's definitely a huge correlation of their situation with how they behave. that's true for any character or real person - how we act depends on the situation and how we ourselves see fit to respond. the women, while maybe being from different socioeconomic backgrounds within the bounds of district twelve, are all in the same poor system of oppression and poverty, and their different personality types defines how they respond to that fact.

i don't remember much from tbosas, but snow's mother was supposedly a better person than him or his father. he clearly felt a great emotional attachment of love for her, and she was the only woman who made sure he felt as if he was loved. that did make a heavy impact on him, as we can see from his thing with the handkerchief. honestly, i couldn't say much more than that since i don't remember anything else from the book or the movie about the mom.

Speaking of DT17 designs, do you feel as if there were some redesigns/reimaginings that were unnecessary? For example, I do like what they did with Gosylan's design in the reboot but not so much her personality!

Other than Bushboy, I've only ever had tiny nitpicks about designs.

Gladstone being the biggest example. I love everything about his design except for his HAIR. I love what modmad ended up doing with the design so on the off-chance I do draw him, I draw him like that. (it's criminal that I don't draw him as often as I would like)

On the topic of Gos, I just wish they had kept her pigtails.

In terms of writing, I hardly disagreed with a personality/development choice, really. Though, I guess I wish they had done more for/with Magica though. She was a great first threat but then that threat was reduced to null.

To answer your tags! Frank doesn’t consistently call Matt Red in the comics from what I can find/from what I’ve read—he usually calls him Murdock or Devil. Though, in issue 1 Frank calls a soldier with a red bandana “Red”, so I guess it’s thought to be a possible Easter egg. 🤍🖤❤️

What pets do you think would best fit each papa? 💗

for primo, i honestly feel like he wouldn't have pets. instead, there are a handful of birds outside that always come over to him when he's working outside, they sit on the branches of trees and watch as he does his work. he'll feed them sometimes too. he likes those little birds.

secondo definitely has a snake or two. the reptiles are spoiled rotten. he loves his snakes so so so much, and he will bring them with him around the abbey, coiled around his arms and their heads on his shoulders. he takes them on walks outside too, they like it very much.

terzo has three maincoons, two which are almost half the size of him! they're huge! the third one is still a baby. in his office, he has a wall-mounted cat tree that goes all around the room. he also has a drawer full of treats for them as well. they roam freely around the ministry with bejeweled collars.

and of course, copia has his rats! he has four, all look exactly the same but he can somehow tell which one is which. he also has a drawer full of treats for his little babies, along with sweaters and things that some siblings have knitted them. he always has one roaming around in his office when he's hard at work.

ive been okay !!! truly lots of changes :P .. i found someone that actually likes me as much as i like him lol. we spend all our time together,, we both get jealous when we hang out w our friends but its okay cuz we js call right after. its like finally i am not the only one doing the obsessing..

its so nice it doesnt even feel like im obsessed!!! cuz so is he :P. at first i thought it wld just fade on his end as it usually does, and then i thought id feel smothered and want him gone but.. its been like four months i think and were still the same.

the only thing i wld change is if i could just finally make it Oficial lol. but, im waiting for certain things to fall into place for that first. still cant wait tho :3

i like him so much.. i love him So much. its funny, ive never met someone so normal yet so weird. he gets everything i say but he doesnt get it like i do,, but he gets it in a way nobody ever has before. he gets me,, its like he knows me yk?. i hope we get far, i dont ever wanna be away from him.

Frankly I also had my phase where I thought I was unlovable, or that relationships weren't for me. I even thought, for a moment, that friendships could replace relationships! People who have been following me for a while and read my posts a lot might remember that... Quite embarrassing when I look back now! Tehehehe~

Now of course, that might very much be the case for some, and there's nothing wrong with that, but for yearning and love-filled people like me that just doesn't cut it!

Now you know what it's like to have someone who genuinely loves you! Someone who needs you and is infatuated just like you! My dear beloved and I are often too much for the average person, but we're perfect for each other. I've never had someone be exactly what I wanted like that, and I'm guessing you feel the same!!

That is to say, I'm so happy for you!!! And I wish you both the absolute best, even tho I already know you're starting off by a great start!! I can sense this relationship will do wonders for you.

And for the rest of my dear lovely readers, don't give up! Know your worth, know how much your love is valuable and NEVER settle for someone who underappreciates you. Communication is key, but if you ever feel unwanted and unloved and talking doesn't work; Please, put yourself first. You don't owe anyone anything, and that inclues you too.

calling her a manipulator seems a little bit of a victim-blaming rhetoric in my opinion. she's an oppressed individual from a poor district who is forced to perform/kill children for the elite's entertainment, who was clearly struggling long before the games (parents died in the rebellion and left her an orphan, she had to sing and possibly sell herself to feed her cousin, her boyfriend cheats on her and then his mistress sends her to a death arena out of spite, etc). she had to "manipulate" the capitol by making them attached to her because this is literally a strategy to survive. lucy gray does not cause anyone harm on purpose unless they instigate a conflict or directly threaten her life, and because snow is extremely selfish and narrow-minded he sees this as her being manipulating and conniving when all he does is contribute to the issue of her feeling threatened. when left in peace she sings and spends time with the covey, and if provoked she will defend herself, so i don't know how that could be regarded as "manipulating" behavior.

i found lucy gray to be an incredibly interesting character. its been so long since i read thosas (eighth grade, so that was around 3-4 years ago) and i don't remember my exact first impression. i appreciated her characterization/what she brought to the storyline & lore of panem/her background, but coral was probably my favorite character at the time (as we all know i'm obsessed with murderous career tributes, especially those whose names start with c. just look at my url). when i saw rachel zegler cast as lucy gray and saw her performance, i was obsessed. rachel nailed the role perfectly and is literally so talented!!! and the brown girls representing is great :)

she's my favorite character and she absolutely deserved better but like... while i appreciate that suzanne kept up with the theme/lore behind her name origin and made lucy gray disappear like her namesake, never to be found, symbolically haunting snow for the rest of his life, if we look at it from a non-figurative point of view there is absolutely no way she didn't die. lucy gray can't hunt (or maybe she could- snow was very self-absorbed so he didn't know that much about her, but i honestly can't imagine that she would have hunted) so she couldn't survive in the wild. snow left a bullet wound in her, and lucy gray doesn't have medical experience. she couldn't return to district twelve for medical attention, since snow never told her about his promotion to d2 and she would have assumed he'd be back there ready to kill her or turn her in. also a lot of scary animals live in the woods at night, and for as much as lucy gray is clearly a survivor i don't think she'd have been much of a match for that. if she made it back to the cabin, injured as she was, i doubt there was much food there or any medical supplies sufficient enough to take care of a bullet wound. if she managed to survive past all of that, no one lives up to snow's age (late 80s?) hobbling around in the woods and living off the land, especially since lucy gray was already disadvantaged by being poor and hungry her entire life, so she must have been long dead by the time the 74th games rolled around. and no one knew about d13 still existing so lucy gray certainly wasn't heading over there.

greasy sae as lucy gray does theoretically line up with ages, but like snow made trips to d12 specifically to spook katniss, so i can't imagine that sae would just have the option of going into hiding. also lucy gray had no way of returning to twelve because she probably (assuming she survived the bullet wound) believed snow would be back there, ready to hunt her down, and i think after the stricter management of d12 post sejanus's hanging, people would've noticed some random woman popping back in.

once again, lucy gray had no way of knowing that d13 existed, she wasn't going to make it all the way to an obscure, obliterated district that everyone thought was long gone severely injured, and coin is white and too young to be lucy gray. also i don't imagine some random district twelve refugee that likes bright colors and singing is going to show up to a wasteland district and become its corrupt political leader.

edit: I forgot to answer the question about the snowbaird romance. while they were extremely fast burn, dysfunctional,with so many obvious red flags, i do believe that her feelings were real, especially given how their dynamic was in the movies. she had no way of knowing that coryo's internal monologue fixated on power/status/"owning" her (at least, until it was far too late), she flirted with him a lot, he saved her life, she wrote songs about him and sang them to him... no matter how it ended i do believe that while it wasn't healthy, pure, or stable/long lasting love, she felt something along that vein for him.

2. Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc?

I do love challenges and events - I think I sometimes write better with some reason to actually do it, and those things are great for that. Still, I don't know if I will - maiko week's been shaky these past couple years, and anyway I am trying to avoid extra pressure on myself going into 2024, since the last events I did in 2022 kind of fried me out. However: if something crosses my dash that grips me, I'll likely go for it! So in answer - maybe yes?

11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes this year?

A more simple trope I'd want to try out for maiko is bedsharing. It's simple but fun for a reason - I think it could be cool as a complete focus, like a 5+1, or maybe something that's just describing the intimacy of it all (as that's also a sort of trope I like - quiet reflective emotional intimacy).
