"Born Into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward."
The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band
2001, Constellation (Bandcamp)
22 years ago Montreal’s other iconic prodigiously-membered post-rock band released their second LP. It’s not easy keeping all of these pro-Zion-but-not-Zionists straight, so I’ve helpfully listed and ranked each of the musicians who have passed through this constantly shifting collective from first to least-first.

Did you know that the original computers were humans? Did you know that most computers were women? Did you know the Wi-Fi, mobile phone and Bluetooth technology we rely on today was due to an invention by a woman?
In the mid 20th century the computer industry was dominated by women. Programming, computer design, computer maintenance, innovation, even “war machines”—computers used to decrypt enemy communications—were all traditional female careers.
Fix-Ya-Pc recognises that this has changed and we now face a worsening gender crisis in technology. Currently only three per cent of women choose technology as their first career, which is substantially lower than men. We want to support and encourage more women to go into technology. There is a predicted 90 per cent increase in demand for tech skills in the next 15 years. We want to see women being as much a part of this as men.
On IWD, we wish to celebrate the contribution of women in technology and spotlight the amazing achievements they have made.
Four Inspiring Women in Tech:
Ada Lovelace: The World’s first computer programmer
Admiral Grace Hopper: Computer Scientist and pioneer of computer programming
Annie Easley: Computer scientist, mathematician and NASA rocket scientist
Hedy Lamarr: Hollywood actress and the inventor of Wi-Fi
