It's always "why are you such an elitist?" and never "was the elitism fun? did you enjoy the elitism?"
You get it

Do You Dislike Curtis
Does he get on my nerves sometimes? Sure. Have I threatened to push him off a roof if he keeps bringing up the Handbook? Also yes.
But listen, just between you and I?
Curtis is incredibly talented and smart, a lot more than people give him credit for. He has a unique way of solving problems by thinking completely outside of the box, and he's creative and funny, and I mess with him because I love him.
I could never, ever dislike Curtis.
He's the greatest br— Uh, friend, I mean. He's the greatest friend anyone could ask for.
Curtis is going to make an amazing Head Elf one day, I just know it.
Yours,
Bernard

You've never had marshmallow yams?!? BRO!! ITS DIVINE!! My favorite recipe includes apples too. It goes like like yams, apple slices, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg salt and then cooked until soft in a lil casserole dish, put the mallows on, bake more for like 5 mins - for the love of fuck don't look away, they will burn - and then tadaa!! Its super easy. It's a Thanksgiving staple. Okay hope u love it bye bye.

Honestly Ben 10 is probably one of the most based science fiction series out there by sheer virtue of it having the balls to showcase any alien concept it wanted to no matter how ridiculous, and whenever someone is like “there’s no way in Hell that could ever be scientifically feasible”, it dared to look them in the eyes and go “Yeah, well, this is a world where magic and superpowered mutants also exist. What are you gonna do? Cry about it? You grown ass adult who’s expecting scientific feasibility out of a cartoon meant to sell toys to preteen boys that has lore so inconsistent it’s almost impossible to tell what’s canon and what’s non-canon? LMAO loser.”
I mean OS had it all- obviously aliens but not only that, at minimum 10 of them; mutants in daily life across at least America, no doubt in other places too; magic, albeit one without a system beyond ‘there’s a spellbook and some charms’. The shift to purely alien in AF makes the wonderful nonsense sci-fi stuff into frustrating logic trees of ‘how does xenobiology get this powerful’ which I had definitely fallen into. Ben 10 is unabashedly science fantasy, so why not go the full fantasy and bring back mutants and magic, haha!
Admittedly a good implementation of magic in a series tends to follow a magic system, which I’m not especially great at coming up with, especially in comparison to speculative biology which come with pre-established rules. But hey, I don’t exactly expect it to be fleshed out, at least not as well as the alien aspect of Ben 10; even then, there’s only so much fleshed out, it’s to tease us into making lore for it lmao-
To be fair though, Ben 10 itself had to whack itself on the cheek in order to be reminded of its magic and especially mutant parts, which unfortunately in the latter case was central to major retcons so…

that idea about dream having once had wings is living in my head rent-free so have some hcs for the other endless & wings
imo destiny wouldn’t have wings. he is chained to his book, to reality, to the future and the past. he is a force that supports the laws of nature, rather than denies them. he is fixed in a way that dream & death are not. he does not have wings because he is the walls that keep us from flying, the ceiling hanging low over our heads. he is the limit, the boundary, the end. he has no flights of fancy. he is what is, not what can be. destiny does not have wings.
death has wings, of course. it’s partially because we imagine her as the angel of death, come to bear us away to another world. death is an ending, a reality, like destiny, but the line between life and death is permeable (albeit in only one direction) in a way destiny’s lines are not. death is what brings people to another world. she guides us, lifts us up, brings us comfort at the end. death as the anthropomorphic personification is not only an ending, but a beginning, and it is the sound of her wings that conduct us from this place to the next. she is a doorway, a path, a light at the end of the tunnel. death has wings.
and then dream. of course, dream. he is a literal flight of fancy, defined as that which is not, the essence of unreality. he is not limited by what is, he is free, he is dream. of course he has wings.
later, he does not, but i think you’ve done a far better job talking about that than i ever could.
desire is nebulous, hard to pin down. they are not concrete, they are emotions, they are everywhere & everywhen. if you shut them up, shut them away, they will destroy you, because they cannot be caged. desire has wings.
despair… she is her twin’s darker shadow, their balance, the falling to their flight. desire lifts you up, whispers that there is freedom above if only you try. despair tells you that there is nothing up there, and you couldn’t reach it if there were. all that is left is to sink, to let the water weigh you down and to drift. to fall. to slumber in viscous tar that will not let you free. despair does not have wings.
destruction is anchored in reality, in carnage, in ruin. he is a crumbling, a falling, a flame. he does not fly because he is inevitable, because he is not meant for such graces. but he wants to fly, longs for it, wishes hopelessly to escape the destruction he wreaks like a bird that flutters out of a window the moment before the whole of it tumbles to ruin. when he paints himself, he adds wings.
delight flew, long ago. her wings were myriad colours and full of light. she was the rainbow at the end of a storm, the glint of a smile, the shimmer of light on glass. she flew with purpose, with luminescence, with glory. the flutter of a heartbeat, the uplift of joy. delight had wings.
delirium does not. she drifts, unmoored by gravity or by reality, separated from everything more sharply than dream ever was — even dream must obey the line drawn between the waking and the dreaming, but delirium simply floats through such boundaries. she is disconnected, a speck on the wind, a hallucination, her movements unpredictable and bound by no laws. delirium is a ghost, and needs no wings.
i love these so much, thank you! particularly the idea of destruction painting himself with wings. i'm trying to decide if i want to posit desire having wings sometimes, my thoughts on it won't fully form... but desire as a concept can be so fickle, so on-and-off, that i wonder about their wings being so too. i really like your headcanons :)
add dream losing his wings to the list of Fucked Up Things That Messed Up The Endless As A Family, particularly if having wings is like an Endless thing at least for some of them. strong headcanon that it's just Not Talked About since dream won't speak of it after how things went down with destiny and nobody really knows how to address it anyway. if it's brought up it's usually desire being a dick about it (though deep down they actually do feel sympathy for dream, plus the fear of this happening to them too). everybody very functionally ignores it and dream doesn't mention it for 5 billion years 👍 nothing like NOT grappling with the sudden knowledge that you can be permanently changed against your will. it's fine
anyway this reminded me of how morpheus is sometimes depicted with wings in art. such as
In the Arms of Morpheus, W. Reynolds-Stephens
Morphée, Jean Antoine Houdon
Morpheus, Jean-Bernard Restout
you get the gist 😂

I do miss seeing your takes on literature! Hope the residency is going well and that you’re not too overwhelmed
Thanks :) Hopefully I’ll get back to the literature posting soon.
That being said, residency is great. I love doing my job, and I get along surprisingly well with the attendings who are known for having high standards, so despite my subspecialty being somewhat competitive, it doesn’t feel that way.

It’s nearly christmas so what’s on your to do list?
Not much.
The Stuffed Animal department had an accident with a rogue sewing needle, so I need to get the toys quality controlled. Half the remote controlled cars were painted green, not red, and I need to get that sorted out. Santa has only checked the list once, and he hasn't gotten his suit dry cleaned or fitted, so I have to organize his schedule to get those done as soon as possible.
The Breakdown Closet has acquired a chair. Now a department is short a chair, and it needs to be replaced.
Then there's the ongoing issue with Frost showing up unannounced.
If no one is keeping an eye on him, he messes with our equipment or tries sneaking in his own patent pending Jack Frost plushies into the toy bag. Not only are they horrifying (I think he made them himself) but they're not on any Christmas list. We can't run any risks of toys getting mixed up which means I have to babysit a Legendary Figure every time he shows up.
The Christmas party hasn't been fully organized yet. The Wrapping Department ran out of paper. Half the kitchen ovens need maintenance. We're missing 300 boxes of tinsel- Which is incredible! How does that even happen??
And don't get me started on the paperwork.
All in all, not much to do!
Yours,
Bernard

Weird ass fucking question but I just had a hangover and you answered one of my asks with a beautiful response so now I wanna know, which one of the elves (it doesn't matter which house or like clan) would you like to have as a dad and whyyy. Mine is Maedhros, Finrod, or Turgon, whichever depends on my mood lmaoo. The reason is I do not know and I have a massive headache but like I would like to be their daughter lololol I think they're neat.
Genuinely? Turgon would be a pretty badass dad. He also seems to do quite well with Idril, as well as Huor, Hurin, and Tuor (and I love me some good granddad!Turgon with Earendil). Elrond known around the fandom for Good Dad Vibes. I'm ruling Fingolfin out despite his good dad vibes because he's too sexy to be my father. Ditto Finrod, although I think he would be a very good dad, great at meeting kids where they are. Finarfin seems quite level-headed, that could be a useful parental quality. Also probably likely to forgive you for fuck-ups. Plus I read a very good short series recently on Finarfin welcoming his kids back to Aman after rebirth and it gave me SO many dad!Finarfin feels...I'm not sure if we're counting him as an Elf but I also feel like Earendil would be a chill dad. Takes you on impromptu surfing outings after school, doesn't get mad just "disappointed."
Okay but I think my ultimately answer is Finarfin.

Ooooh! You're playing BG3? So cool! I'm on my 2nd playthrough at the moment and enjoying it even more. How has your(s) looked like?
Okay, so full disclosure time.
I am not technically playing the game. What happened is that my sister started playing it and got extremely obsessed with the character of Astarion, and would send me near-daily screencaps and videos of him squeeing about how great and funny and sad he is, all of which I duly ignored as a good older sister should because I am too busy for this and I have my own obsessions thank you very much, and that was all easy to do when it was just through Discord but then she came home over Thanksgiving and well I can't avoid her now that she's in the same house as me.
And so as she was all settled in she plopped herself down next to me and was like, "Here watch me do an Astarion-only playthrough, I'll do all the fighting and you can make all the decisions and listen to all of my favorite dialogue from him" (which is basically all his dialogue period) and I was like, "Fine, do it if it'll shut you up, I survived your BTS phase and I will survive this and I certainly won't fall for this, I don't even care about this game and this is certainly not going to become my new obsession the way it has yours."
WELL GUESS WHAT
