AITA for keeping a huge secret from my mom?

so i (26ftm) moved back in with my parents a little over a year ago due to the housing market. shakes fist at sky. you know how it is. anyways, uh, while i may be a broke zillennial, my parents are fairly financially well off, and it's in part due to my father's job. my mom recently retired and my father keeps saying he's going to retire, but still keeps pushing it off (and has been pushing it off for about a decade now).

now uh, shortly before i moved in, my mom was telling me that she was having problems with my father. that this was "the third time this had happened" and "this is his last chance" - i think you may see where i'm going with this. he was cheating. for the third time. and she'd caught him, got them to go to couples therapy, and told him there would be no fourth chance. she was willing to move out of the house and start anew somewhere else if she needed to.

um. enter me, the apple of my dad's eye. i move in. one night my mom is off at a book club so it's just me and him for dinner. he opens his phone (up til this point i've noticed he looks at his phone A Lot.) and opens up wechat. he's calling someone "babe" and sending them red heart emojis. i instantly feel kind of sick. i ask him, "are you texting mom?" and he gets SO confused for a second and says no (i don't think he knew i'd seen his phone screen).

that was almost a year ago today. since then i have seen him text this other woman nonstop, has talked about starting a family with her, has talked about taking her with him on his "work trips," and - for some reason - i've seen him google straight-up escort websites on his phone. uh, that one was while my mom and i were in the middle of showing him old family videos.

i feel so fucking guilty. every time i see him i want to [REDACTED DUE TO TUMBLR GUIDELINES]. i lost my therapist that i had known for five years in the move, i lost my entire support network, and i still haven't found anything like that up here. i am completely isolated, and while i have my own job right now, i am in no way financially stable enough to find my own place to live. if i tell my mom, i don't know what's going to happen to me. i don't know if she will kick him out or if she will move. i am trying to move back to where i was living, but i just can't afford it. i feel completely trapped in this situation, and i know what the right thing to do is, but i am terrified that on top of losing my entire life a year ago, i'm about to lose everything else, too.

a large part of me wants to confront my father first, but i am also terrified of him. i know i'm his favorite, but i am well aware of his temper, and while he's never physically harmed me, i feel like the situation might be a bit different if i'm the person that might get him divorced and ostracized from the entire family. i don't know. i honestly have no idea. everything is so confusing and i just have felt frozen for an entire year.

but the other night i saw him texting her again. she's mentioned she had been feeling sick lately and he told her that she might be pregnant. i was so close to losing it. i almost ripped his phone out of his hand and smashed it on the ground. i couldn't look him in the eye. i could barely even speak to him. maybe the funniest part about this is that he doesn't realize anything is wrong. he's a fucking narcissist and doesn't pay the slightest bit of attention to how other people act around him.

the next day, he was gone for another "work trip".

i am run completely ragged and i don't know how much longer i can take this. i find myself wishing someone else could take it out of my hands so that i don't have to be responsible for destroying our whole family.

anyways. am i the asshole for being a coward?

a bit of extra INFO as well though: as far as i'm aware, my parents are in a bit of a dead bedroom situation (frankly. my mom likes to oversshare.) so uh. at the very least i know she's not getting whatever diseases my dad surely must have by now.

The tools I use are KMPlayer, obtained legally because it's free, whatever online YouTube downloader happens to be functional at the time I'm ripping a video, dubiously legal but relatively available, and Photoshop Portable 2022, obtained totally legally and definitely not via poking around on the internet til something shook loose.

I've tried various image editing softwares for gifs, and honestly the only one that doesn't want to make me julienne my own eyeballs has been PS, but I've also been working with PS on and off for like 20 years, so it's probably familiarity more than anything that sets my preference.

My advice for giffing in general? Go nuts. Go nuts and let nobody stop you. There are a zillion gif tutorials out there, but nothing is as valuable as having a good old crack at it yourself - fail fast, fail forward, as the saying goes (is that a saying? It's certainly said a lot around me.)

When I was first getting started, I generally did static graphics and that kind of taught me everything I know about colouring and layering and texturing and all sorts of wild stuff - evidence of which is still in the depths of my blog if you're willing to go more than 15 pages deep in my edit tag. There's some stuff in there I have no idea how I made, and other stuff in there I wish I'd never posted, but it's all there.

I learned a lot by doing, and sometimes by downloading other peoples' .psds and reverse engineering/butchering their methods. So, in the interest of paying it forward, here's a google drive with a bunch of random .psds' and their corresponding gifs. Feel free to rip 'em to pieces. Drag the psd (usually grouped because I can't not) onto another image or gif of your own and see how it looks. Outright use the entire thing in your own stuff, I don't care - if it helps and you like it, go nuts. If I've ever made anything in particular you and you want to get a look at its insides, let me know and I'll probably be able to either share the .psd or recreate something similar and share that.

I did do the world's most slap-dash gif tutorial a while ago, but it didn't really focus on the basic giffing part. If anyone wants something more in depth/step-by-step, even if it's just one person, I'm more than happy to cobble something together.

As in life, in giffing, I tend to take the spaghetti approach: throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.

Dubiously helpful at best, but I hope something here was useful. Feel free to ask more questions/demand specifics from me, lmao.

Somebody who knows about Monster Hunter explain a thing to me.

So me and the gf were watching old Monster Factory videos and we got to the one for Monster Hunter World (2018) and my gf was intrigued and wanted to try it out. And i was excited to see her play something besides Ark and Fallout 4, so I encouraged this. It was only 15$ on ps4 but her console badly needs its thermal paste replaced or something because it overheated and crashed repeatedly in the opening cutscene. I said, whatever, its on pc. I’ll pirate it real quick.

The first torrent I find for it is over 90gb.

The second one is a more reasonable 60 fucking gb because they ripped out the hd texture pack dlc. HM. So I download that one and after five hours it’s ready to install. The repack installer pops up a little warning “check this box to force limit the installer to 2gb of ram. If your machine has less than 8g, check this box. The install will be slower but much more stable.” That’s reasonable, I think. And my pc only has 4g. So I check the box and hit proceed.

Estimated time for install: 17 hours

I say haha okay. Well. We’re not doing that. Tell you what. Im going to look at some other games in this series real quick and if I can’t find anything decent I’ll set this to install over night. Anything for the gf!

So I do a google, and it turns out there’s another pc monster hunter game released more recently than monster hunter world! Monster Hunter Rise is only from 2022! And low and behold, the torrent is only twenty something gigabytes. It downloads in less than an hour and installs in 15 minutes. It’s already running and I’m about to start playing.

So my question is this, monster hunter fans:

I actually have multiple OCs, thank you for asking! But I'll talk about just one that I made for MHA.

Her quirk is called Swarm, and it allows her to control insects. (I kind of ripped her power off from the character Skitter from the websirial Worm, whoops lol) She applies to UA in the same year as the cannon characters, and meets (my fav!) Present Mic for the first time at the entrance exam.

Now this girl with the bug quirk, has a favorite hero. That hero is Present Mic. Present Mic is terrified of bugs.

I imagine that their initial interaction goes something like this:

On the day of the entrance exam, she strikes up a conversation with him while they're both taking the same bus over to the practical exam site. She confesses to being nervous, because she has a "villainous" quirk that many have told her will see her in jail sooner than in a hero course. She gets bullied for it a lot. Mic reassures her that "there's no such thing as a villainous quirk! why my best friend has one of those quirks that people used to say was villainous, but he became a hero and proved them all wrong, and you can too, Listener!" And she's like, "Yah that's why you're my favorite, because you're so outspoken against villainous quirk discrimination on your show!" And she looks at him like he hung the moon.

And then the bug quirk revelation happens durring the exam. And Mic is like, 'I want to crawl out of my skin and die, but I absolutely cannot let her know I feel that way' so he desperately tries to grin and bear it. Then she passes the exam and gets into UA. She keeps venomous spiders in her hair in preparation for practical heroics, and every other day she comes in with some new peice of PM merch for him to sign. Mic is horrified and trying so desperately not to be quirk racist to her face, but also he  runs screaming if her hair twitches wrong.

He eventually realizes that he can't keep up a facade of being unbothered by bugs forever, so he finally buckles down and starts trying to get rid of his fear of bugs for the sake of his new no1 fan. He watches those YouTube videos that are supposed to help you overcome your fear of them. He goes to those presentations where they let you hold tarantulas and pet butterflies and shit. Most of the other attendees are elementary school field trips, but damn it if those six year olds aren't ten times braver than him about touching the bugs, lol. Aizawa and Nemuri are watching gleefully from the sidelines, of course. Nominally so they can cancel his quirk if Mic feels the sudden need to scream the building down around some ten year old's ears, but more realistically they're there to revel in Mic's pain and eat popcorn.

The first time I became obsessed with the internet side of media, it was Skulduggery Pleasant, and I was about twelve I think? I was waiting for the...third or fourth book in the series to come out, I think. It wasn't due for months, but you could pre-order it. The pre-order on Amazon came with a sneak peak at the first chapter of the next book. Googling it, I found the author's website had the first *and* second chapters. Googling it further, I found the third chapter...of someone's fanfiction. And it was all downhill from there.

Something I made that I'm proud of...well, in the last year I've been working on a Present Mic cosplay, and I think that I've come a pretty long way with that! Another thing is that I and one other person have been working on a fanfic/role play that has come a really long way too! I don't think it's my best work, but it is my longest and most completed, and it has some great examples of some of my better characterization work. I'm pretty proud of it!

-beginning of class, this kid named aiden's shoulder partner is gone -kid asks to sit next to him because her shoulder partner is also gone -another kid jumps in and asks the same thing because her shoulder partner is also gone -another kid asks if he can sit next to aiden (his shoulder partner was not gone lol) -by the end of this 7 different people had asked to sit by aiden -my teacher said that all of them could sit at aidens table (jokingly) -of course they went for it (keep in mind our tables are like 4 feet by 1 and a half feet -chaos -this arrangement lasted all of 10 minutes before they gave up all trying to write on the same desk

Let’s start with his setup: purple and/or green with a dark wood tabletop. He keeps the lights green during the day or when his computer is idle, and mixes in the purple when it’s dark out because he likes the Ambiance. 

Only one monitor and do not let him buy another one no matter how much he claims he needs it. He does not. He has a TV in his room tho, but it’s not mounted above or near his desk; it’s on the opposite wall that faces his bed. Laying down and watching Netflix takes priority.  

He’s a sucker for themed keyboards/keycaps. If he finds a set themed around his favorite show or a character he likes, he’ll buy it. No self control.

The majority of his keyboards have that super clacky almost officey sounding click to them, and he’s obsessed with it. Sometimes he fucks around on Google Docs typing nonsense just to hear the keyboard make noise.

He can be gone anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes 😭😭 if he’s gone for a short amount of time, he comes back with just as much chaotic energy to take back his headphones and shoo you away as he did to throw it all on you pls.

Other times, he’ll go and make a whole ass meal and come back sauntering in with a half eaten grilled cheese in hand, “Oh shit are you still playing, babe—hey you’re doing really well, look at you go!”

When you’re not there, he mentions you a lot, because he’s always thinking about you no matter how small it is; even just the design of a character would prompt him to a make a comment, “I don’t think my girlfriend has ever played this, but I know she’d main this character.” 

Does he invite you to play a game he knows you’ve never played or are bad at with him on his stream, knowing full well he’s an ace at it and will crush you publicly? Absolutely. Without a doubt. 

There’s always a very shameless, not at all subtle shoutout to his Instagram in the middle of all his streams please, he’ll be playing a game and randomly it’s like, “Fire pic on Instagam by the way, go like that.” 

His comments are pretty respectful whenever you’re there or he mentions you; there’s a few cheeky randoms who like to make donations whenever you’re on the screen or say some inappropriate stuff, but Eren’s learned to just ignore it. It doesn’t make him happy, and he might tell people to chill if it’s excessive, but he won’t call out anything explicitly and make you uncomfortable while you’re there. 

Sometimes Connie will make a comment about how you’re hot, and that’s definitely something Eren will call out and bring attention to, more so to mock Connie than anything. 

At one point, his subscribers keep asking for more content with you (especially if you’re not there often/it’s been a while since people have seen a peek of you), to which Eren will pout because, “Hey, this is my Twitch-- now, look, you’ve gotten your Eren’s hot girlfriend privileges revoked for the week.”

Terrible at doing unboxing videos whenever he gets sent product because he just rips things open 😭😭 he’s too eager to do ASMR or gentle/detailed unboxing, he just wants to test out the new parts as soon as possible.

His content is anything from him streaming Overwatch and COD to terraforming his Animal Crossing island, he does not discriminate. One day you could get Eren calling Jean a fucking dumbass for not healing him, and the next day he’s doing his best impressions of Timmy and Tommy.

Do not put it past him to build you a whole ass PC setup if you express the slightest interest in one, even if it’s not solely for gaming/you wanna use it for work/school. He’ll do it. He’ll make his hyperfixating work for him. 

Plus then he’d get to give you one of his old keyboards and give you special keycaps with his initials and go on about how he’s officially got a gamer gf even if all you can do is press the spacebar <33
