We need more tlou3 ellie x reader
There are two tropes I’m an absolute bitch, whore, and slut for. Ellie x reader as mothers and ellie x reader after the events of the last of us part two!
My bored and lonely brain was thinking as usual and I realized we don’t have enough ellie x reader post-epilogue. Which is like… why? The amount of angst and eventual fluff that could be added is insane. Watching Ellie grapple with the gut-wrenching aftermath of grief and slowly finding her new purpose. Becoming her old self again and healing with a new lover along the way.
I started thinking of story ideas and settled on this one being my favorite. It might be crap or it might be genius, I dunno.
(just imagine how desperate and passionate the smut would be)

౨ৎ Ellie’s spent months in Jackson trying to make amends with Dina and JJ. There are hard consequences she has to face, being that betrayal isn’t easily forgotten, and every single street corner and creaky saloon reminds her of Joel Miller. This town used to be a safe haven, a sanctuary where she was met with warm people and even warmer memories. Memories turn to bittersweet shackles that tug her back from being full, leaving an empty shell of what once was. She thought her new purpose was getting her family back, but that wasn’t enough. There’s no fairness to her finding comfort in the arms of a former lover she hurt so bad, left to rot just like all the other lives sacrificed in the name of her living. Talks of fireflies banding together to build communities and restore humanity leave Ellie curious as she’s reminded of the cross-country journey that brought her to this position in the first place. Jerry Anderson is dead thanks to her, so there’s no hope for a vaccine, but there might be a sliver of light for a second chance. Ellie yearns to be apart of something greater. A journey that could once again fill the void that is her soul. She’s taken enough from this barren Earth already, why not give back? Setting off for the fireflies, she’s met with a familiar face from her past, the murderer of Joel Miller.
Abby Anderson and Ellie Williams share two things in common. They have the same goals of building a larger group of survivors, and they’ve taken a liking to you.
You who became close friends with Abby soon after she found the fireflies on Catalina Island with a scrawny scar-faced boy accompanying her. She might be the most genuine person you’ve ever met, which makes it shameful when you start giggling a little too hard at a certain auburn-haired girl’s jokes. The same auburn-haired girl who’s constantly mentioned in Abby’s tales of the crazy immune chic who used to be set on killing her.
Ellie wasn’t looking to make friends on this mission. She wanted to seek the fireflies and support them in whatever greater goal they had in store. However, she feels this sweet tangy guilt when she finds herself admiring the way you laugh at her jokes. The way your lips quirk up in a grin that’s all too amused to be friendly. With Dina and JJ still hot on her mind, she insists that you’re nothing but a friend crush. But it’s been months and Dina still hasn’t taken her back, understandably so… Maybe it wouldn’t hurt for Ellie to seek comfort in another’s touch. Maybe the fear of not being good enough for her former family can be set aside. Just for now, while she’s knuckles deep in your cunt. She swears to herself it’s a fling and you’re nothing more than a placeholder. A placeholder who Ellie happens to hold very, very dear to her heart. We change people like seasons change color, and as seasons pass the old is replaced with something new. A fresh start might be what this crazy immune chic needs.
Stolen campfire kisses, deep late night conversations, and talks of the stars reignite a spark in the pits of Ellie’s core. If you light a match in front of a moth, it’ll chase it. And baby you’re a whole wildfire.
————————————————————————————
I wouldn’t plan on this being an ellie x reader x abby love triangle, but after writing that summary out I’m realizing it has potential to be one. Love triangles are just a bit cliche to my liking and I’d want this to be super Ellie focused. Like from her pov and everything. It’s about her emotional rollercoaster and learning to love/be loved again.
Exploring Ellie’s dynamics with different people is so yummy and I feel like this wouldn’t just be a romance for Ellie x reader, but also an enemies to friends for Ellie x Abby.
Once again, I’m not a writer so I’ll probably never turn this into a series. If there ARE any writers out there who are interested in this idea and would wanna work together I’d be so down.

A question for my people
we are talking mostly about films and series. what do you think of all these gay side characters that doesn't have an arc and are represented like the perfect stereotype? like, the only thing they are is Gay.
my take:
at first I thought it was good, cause it still was some (wrong, I guess) representation. but now I think that those characters are put there just so who made the film/serie can say they love gay people. I DO want representation, but a real one. I don't want to be just a stereotype.
onestly I love Dina so much because I feel represented by her. she's a mediterranean, bisexual woman with hair and muscles. I mean. I think Tlou2 is one of the best lgbt representations I've ever seen.* I don't know why people think it is forced. like have you ever seen riverdale? or fucking after? man.
anyways I'm open to discussion. actually I would LOVE to discuss about this. hear other people's opinions.
*It isn't necessarily related to tlou, but since that's the main topic of my blog I still talked about it

EllieDina Week - Day 7: Infinite.
Oh man, I can't believe that- Well, yesterday was technically the last day! But I still can't believe that the week is over. I had such a blast, getting to write something for an entire week. One thing for each day, it really brought back my motivation. And- It showed me how creative and talented the community truly is! I was introduced to so many phenomenal new artists and writers because of this event.
Rating: Teens and up.

Ellie was stood up at the front of the church in Jackson, she grimaced at the feeling of her palms sweating and she wiped them off on her pants. She had no clue why she was so nervous, perhaps it was because she wasn't religious and she was going to marry Dina in a church? That couldn't be the reason, that would be dumb. She'd be over the moon even if their wedding was held in a dumpster, as long as she got to marry the woman she loved, it didn't matter at all.
They had been unable to find Ellie a SUITable tux for the wedding, so she was wearing her best looking flannel and a pair of brand new jeans. Ellie hadn't had the chance to see Dina yet, apparently it was some kind of rule before Outbreak Day. And for some reason, everyone in Jackson was insistent on her following that to a T. Ellie had grumbled under her breath, not to pleased about having not seen Dina in over sixteen hours.
JJ had popped by when Ellie was getting dressed, she had smiled upon seeing his arrival. " Hey, Spud! What have you been up to? " She said as she scooped him up and spun him around. He giggled and squealed in excitement, though he was happy when he was set down. Ellie reached out and grabbed his shoulder to steady him. He grinned and happily shared with her what he had been doing, and where he had been. " I was visiting Mama! Aunt Maria says you aren't allowed to know how she looks. "
JJ seemed very puzzled by the entire thing, but he had excitedly spent time with Ellie until he was called out to get ready for the wedding reception, he was going to be their ring bearer. And he had been taking the job very seriously, practicing all the time leading up to the date of the wedding.
Ellie tugged at the collar of her shirt, man was it surprisingly hot for the time of year it was. She turned her attention to the center isle, watching as some of the kids excitedly rushed up, tossing flower petals as they went. Stopping to stand on their respective sides.
The kids of the town had been so excited about the news of Ellie and Dina getting married, so of course Dina and that big heart of hers couldn't say no to the children asking if they could toss the flowers. God, Ellie loved her with every fiber of her being.
Ellie's heart rate accelerated as everyone in the church pews began to stand up, her green eyes grow wide in awe and her jaw nearly drops, her throat feels raw with emotions as she takes in the sight of Dina, who is smiling brightly like the goddess that she is- Walks down the aisle, being lead by Jesse's father.
She's wearing a burgundy colored dress, with black and gold accents. Ellie had never even thought about that color combination looking so good, but seeing Dina in it convinced her. Dina was absolutely stunning, that sparkle in her brown eyes as she stops in front of Ellie says it all. " Hey. " Dina says softly.
Ellie cleared her throat and smiled at Dina. " Hey, I missed you, babe. You look- Fuck me, you look absolutely stunning. " Dina was the only one who could pull words like that out of Ellie's mind.
Dina smirked in amusement and teasingly winked at Ellie, finding absolute joy in the way her face grew flushed. " Oh, in a rush are we? We still have to get married, goober. But let's save that talk for later. "
They both grew quiet at the sound of their sons little feet, tearing up the isle with a string of giggles. The rings bouncing wildly as he comes to a halt in front of them. " Mama! Mom! I got the rings! " He announced in a delighted tone, earning a few chuckles from the congregation.
Dina laughs softly and smiles down at him. " Good job, bud! You are such a smart little guy. " She ruffled his hair, watching as he goes and stands where he was told, still beaming with pride.
The wedding commences right on time, the pastor going through the motions of what had been discussed with him. There is a mixture of Jewish traditions, like the breaking of a glass. And some things that were apparently common in a wedding back when people still had them.
Ellie crouches down slightly, taking the rings carefully from the pillow JJ was holding. She smiles as she hands Dina hers, her mind is racing and her heart is hammering heavily.
They both slip the rings on one another's finger when they were given the go-ahead, they didn't exchange any vows. Not in front of people, they didn't need to prove that they loved and cared about each other in front of everyone else. All that they had been through signified that, how far they had come.
" I now pronounce you, wife- And, uhh wife. You may now kiss the bride. " The pastor said, clearly not ever having married two women before.
Ellie chuckles softly, gently cupping Dina's cheek with her hand. She leans forward slightly, her breath tickling Dina's nose as she whispered. " Don't mind if I do. " She pressed her lips to Dina's, sharing a passionate kiss with her wife. Ellie wrapped her arms around Dina and dipped her, unable to hold back the laugh that escaped her mouth at JJ's enthusiastic clapping, his claps actually covered up the applause from all the others.
Ellie picked Dina back up, a fond smile on her lips, her arm wrapped around Dina's waist. " Y'know, I like him like this. He isn't yet disgusted by our love and affection for one another. "
Dina smiled and gently brushed her hand over Ellie's cheek, pushing a few stray strands of hair behind her ear. " Yeah, we are still lucky for now it seems. Unfortunately, he will probably grow out of that and get embarrassed of us. "
Ellie snickered to herself. " JJ is going to have a hell of a time bringing people around when he gets older, guaranteed. " She just meant that they would one hundred percent embarrass him with their love for each other when he attempts to bring a crush home with him.
Dina lightly slapped her wife's arm as JJ came rushing up to them, they both crouched down and pulled him into a tight hug. " You did so awesome, Spud! Proud of ya! " JJ beamed happily, his toothy grin brightening up their world. " Now we are a family. " He said softly, nuzzling his head against his mothers'.
《 》
The dinner and party that is held after the wedding goes on for quite some time. Everybody is laughing and singing, chatting and dancing. The music is soft, yet loud. And it reminds Ellie of the night her and Dina shared their first kiss. The same type of lights are strung up, illuminating the dance floor.
Ellie stands near the counter, her gaze almost blank as she stares straight ahead. Her mind begins to run as all the events that followed began coming to life in her mind. She dropped her head with a gasp, and placed her hands over her ears. No- She hadn't done this in a long time, this was supposed to be their new beginning, she was supposed to be making new memories.
Dina had been talking with Maria, JJ latched to her side like a little monkey. When she glanced around the room for a second, her eyes zeroed in on Ellie, hands clasped over her ears, eyes glazed over and wet with tears. She excuses herself and rushes over to Ellie's side. Gently placing a hand on her face. " Ellie, Ellie I need you to come back to me. Come back to me, El. Our son wants to dance with his mom. "
She gently brushes her fingers through Ellie's hair, whispering softly to her until she was able to pull her out of it. " El, you are home, babe. With me and JJ, we are here. We love you and you are safe. " She repeated this as long as she had to, until the light returned to Ellie's eyes and she dropped her hands slowly.
Ellie looked at Dina with guilt written all over her face. " I'm… I'm sorry, Di- I don't know what… I've been doing so good, that… Hasn't happened in months. " Dina can see that Ellie is on the verge of tears, so she gently takes hold of her hand. " Ellie, I'm not upset with you. These things- They happen sometimes. To the best of us, it doesn't mean you've undone every single ounce of work you've come through. I'm so proud of you, and I just want you to be okay. " She placed a gentle kiss to Ellie's lips.
Carefully pulling her by the hand, she leads her out of the church after saying a quick thank you and goodbye to everyone as a whole.
Ellie looked at Dina with confusion, she really had screwed things up. They were supposed to dance and enjoy the wedding party. " What are we doing? What about- "
Dina shook her head and handed JJ over to Ellie. The other woman grunts slightly from the sudden added weight. " Ellie, we can dance together as a family. "
It's hard to argue when your wife looks so excited at the thought, who cared if it wasn't in front of a crowd. Wasn't that how she preferred it, anyway?
《 》
They soon reached their humble little home, it was no farm house. But it had two stories, and was just the perfect size for their family of three.
Ellie set JJ down on his feet as soon as they stepped inside the house, the boy excitedly followed after Dina as she went to the record player and put on a record for them to dance to.
Ellie smiled faintly at Dina as she grabbed hold of JJ and started dancing with him. He was practically bouncing up and down in excitement as they grooved their way over to her. She gasped as Dina grabbed onto her hand and pulled her into a loving embrace, gently swaying to the music that didn't fit at all. JJ stood on Ellie's converse clad feet, and swayed with them. Her hands holding onto his small one's so he wouldn't fall.
The three of them danced until they couldn't dance anymore, and what that meant was they danced until it was time for JJ to go to bed.
" I'll put him down, babe. " Ellie said as she scooped up a tired JJ from on their couch, she carried him upstairs and helped him get ready for bed. " I love you, mom. " He said softly, drifting off to sleep easily, very worn out from the events of the day.
Ellie slowly walked back down the stairs, surprised to see Dina standing in the middle of their living room, gently swaying to the music and humming to herself. She smiles as she approaches Dina, and wraps her arms around her from behind. Swaying to the music with her, their bodies in sync.
A smile grows on Dina's face, and she turns around in Ellie's embrace. Bringing her own hands up and wrapping them around Ellie's shoulders, letting her head rest against her chest as they swayed to the music. Her brown eyes were filled with so much love for the girl in front of her. " I think that this- Right here, is the start to our forever. I love you, El. "
Ellie's eyes well up with tears and she laughs softly, pressing a quick kiss to the top of Dina's head. " I… I believe that you are right, this moment… And all the one's after. We are stronger together. I love you, Dina. Thanks for allowing me to prove myself, time and time again. "

Future Days (Favored Ones, Part 13.)
Series description: Many things were surely fucked up in the year 2038, but no-one ever told anyone how all of it went down. What happened before a group of people left for Seattle to handle personal matters? Why did one girl refuse to leave all of it be? And why there were so many dead in the end?
Part summary: All it can take is a wrong word whispered in a wrong moment. Specifically three of them. And with that, Joel wanted to know what happened and how long it actually was.
A/N: Both songs, Future Days (by Pearl Jam) and Take on Me (by a-ha) are part of the game itself, but I still think that Joel has somehow a sweet spot for playing Johnny Cash and you can’t take that from me.

The spring of 2038, two days before the incident:
“When did it happen?” - Joel asked out of blue when you were both laying down in the bed after one of these exquisite sex sessions. You rose your head, searching for further specification of what he exactly had on his mind.
“When what did happen?” - You answered with a question, getting up to pull a shirt on your body. The man watched you for a while before taking in a huge amount of air.
“You said you love me, right before you came.” - He said quietly, making you stop everything you’ve been doing at that moment. You stood there with the shirt half-buttoned up, your fingers hold the buttons while you horrifiedly tried to overcome that after all that time, you’ve told him. - “I mean, that ain’t only this night’s convention, is it?”
There was a total void inside your head. You pointed your finger at the man, trying to find some words, yet all you could do was to stutter. For real, you hadn’t felt that cringy for a long time. This was like someone finding you and Joel right in the action, but way worse. Why did you tell him that? What’s gotten into you?
“Calm down, kiddo. I’m not mad, I’m just curious.” - Joel sat up on the bed, looking at you searching for any words that would come to your mind. He wasn’t mad. With an uncomfortable expression, you shook your head and searched for your panties in the clothes all over the ground.
“It was just in the heat of the moment. Forget about me ever saying it, yeah?” - Came out of your lips with a pretty high-pitched chuckle, showing Joel how nervous you were.
“I will forget it after you tell me when it happened.” - The man teased you with a fond smile, watching you standing there, playing with your panties. So, you put them on and then walked to the bed, sitting down.
“When you played guitar at the campfire. This summer. Yeah.” - You nodded, looking down on your knees with your eyes teary.
“That’s before this... Before the whole thing even started. You’ve said you don’t have a problem with... It bein’ how it is.” - Joel mumbled unbelievably, looking down too. You nodded, wiping the tears away. - “I told you it was just a sudden... Passion. Pretend I hadn’t say and we’ll be fine.” - You stood up, yet this time, you felt his fingers lingering around your forearm.
“My guitar skills made you fall in love?” - He chuckled as if nothing was going on. You have accidentally spilled the tea about emotionally crossing the line, yet Miller looked super-chilled. Who wouldn’t freak out at that point? But as he told you that with confidence, you just chuckled and laid next to him, looking into the ceiling too, thinking about that summer night.
Late summer of 2037:
Everyone you knew gathered around the bonfire to celebrate the fourth of July. Well, at least the adult ones who could drink alcohol since it was pretty late already. You, Ellie, Jesse, and Dina sat a bit further away, having some small chit-chat while adults like Maria and Tommy sat close to the campfire, laughing at adult jokes.
"Look at the stars, man." - Ellie sighed dreamily, putting her hands below her head. Gently, you laid next to her, snuggling to her side until she put one of her hands over your hip.
"Are you starting about the fucking cosmonauts again?" - You asked with a chuckle, feeling the girl under you chuckle as well. You could feel something gently slipping under your t-shirt, just when Ellie started to tickle you. It was too late to stop her.
"You love it when I talk about that." - She caught your palms, putting it up under your chin, having you wiggle your hips like crazy. The adults turned their heads like you, seeing you laughing in tears. Many of them thought that maybe you and Joel's little girl are a thing, but... Only if they'd know. Only if they'd know that both of you already had someone else on your mind. Not at the moment, but there was a guy who caught your attention completely.
"I do! I do! Stop!" - You mouthed breathlessly, finally having Ellie letting you go. - "Man, my hips hurt like living fuck. Fuck you." - Was a whisper coming out of your lips while you watched Ellie. This look was sultry with friendly emotions, there wasn't a single thing indicating you two had something going on.
"Stop making out and have some fun with us." - Jesse teased both of you, which resolved in you stealing Jesse’s glass of bourbon, sharing it with Ellie. Dina was laid between his thighs, having a contained smile of her lips. One of her palms was holding Jesse’s forearm put over her shoulder. The boy let you have the glass, deciding to go for another one later.
"So, tell me something, Jesse, when you're all about talking these days." - You closed your eyes a bit, having a seductive smile on your lips - you weren't afraid to use it in front of Dina since Ellie was wrapped around you just like Jesse was wrapped around his girlfriend. - "And leave Dina and her boobs out of it, please." - You begged, making both the girls laugh cheerfully.
"You're such a dickhead, damn it. Have you talked to Eugene lately?" - He asked, biting his lower lip. You and Ellie looked excited in a matter of seconds. Eugene was someone called ’a local dealer’ or ‘crackhead’. When youngsters were looking for some weed, they talked to the man every time. Eugene was a fucking weed machine. - "He said that we should wait only two more weeks." - Jesse leaned back into his palms with a shit-eating grin while watching you. That sounded good. Like real good.
"Come on, man! Play somethin’ for us." - Someone with a Texas accent yelled with a burst of laughter, having all four of you looking at them. It was Tommy, who was holding a beer, having his palm in the back pocket of Maria’s jeans. They were a lovely couple. Tommy was looking sharper in the last few weeks - he was growing a beard and hair, so now, he had a weird bun at the back of his head. He was that cool uncle who every kid wanted to have.
And he was encouraging Joel to play guitar for all of the people. Ellie chuckled at that, watching these two bickering like two little girls. - "Yeah, Joel, come on! Play something." - She yelled suddenly, having Joel’s eyes snapping at both of you sitting in the grass.
Ever since what happened in the sewers, you and Joel were kinda... Friends. Not exactly friends, maybe, yet you at least acknowledged the presence of each other. Before that, he had never said hi or asked how you're doing. But ever since that, he made sure to at least nod at you when you were walking through the town and met each other. Sometimes, when your paths crossed, he even stopped for a little talk. He was acting... Nice to you.
Yet you thought that's just a formality and an act of politeness from the man, since every time he saw you, you were all wrapped up inside Ellie's arms. This time, she was leaning her chest to your back holding the glass with bourbon over your hip, where she had her arm. You made it extremely hard to guess if it's just a friendship or more.
Yet even this time, Joel smiled and nodded at you. And since Ellie wished him to play something for her, he couldn't say no. With a heavy sigh, he accepted the guitar and played the first chords of some song. Any of you knew the words yet everyone shut up, listening to the flow of the song. It was magnificent in a way, gentle and passionate at the same time.
Joel's palms and fingers could do wonders with the instrument. He wasn't maybe the greatest singer of all times, but his quiet raspy voice was nice to listen to. Especially when he plucked the strings and his voice went higher, but it was just gentle. When he ended the song, he looked around, searching for something. And when he did find the person, he gave them another smile. It was you, staring at Joel with your mouth slightly opened. - "You know this one, kiddo."
Seconds after that, the first chords of another song vibrated through the bonfire. In the first moment, you thought that he's surely speaking to Ellie, but soon you realized that this comment belonged to you. You knew the song - Joel hummed it to you in the sewers. You got on your feet quickly, telling Ellie that you found this song in an old songbook you had at home. Immediately, you ran to get it.
Joel was surprised that you ran off instead of listening to him playing the song, but that didn't stop him. Ellie, even if they still weren't exactly on the same note, sat there with a glass of bourbon and listened to the old man. There was no denying. Joel let her down big time with what he has done. There wasn't a simple sorry to be said - she didn't talk to him, she didn't spend time with him, they haven't a thing in common. But even though, Joel made sure that he has her back all the time. And she had his back the whole time although the would never say that out loud.
Seeing and hearing Joel play guitar was moving with something inside of her. Ellie's heart suddenly felt healed and full of love, the angry girl inside of her felt safe for a little longer. The only wish she had at those moments was to have the things as they were before. But that wasn't an option for her and Joel anymore. But to have you all over the place for it was a nice change to see from you always cursing and making fun of her and your other friends.
You ran back a few minutes back with that old piece of lettuce in your palm. It was an old songbook you once found in a music store. Barely catching your breath, you sat next to Joel on the log. The man was confused for a moment before he figured out what you're holding, yet you ignored the stare, looking for the song. When you found it, you shoved the book in his face, showing him the song - The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash.
"That's nice, kid, but the song has ended already." - Joel took the book to his palms, listing through it. There were songs he never heard about in a combination with the songs he knew and loved. When he told you about the song's end, your posture shifted to reflect the letdown. You didn't stop for a second, yet you didn't make it on time. What a shame. - "I can play it again if you wanna, I mean, it won't kill me." - The man next to you said quietly, shifting his eyes on you with a small shine in them. People loved to listen to other people play the instrument, but no-one ever had run for a songbook just to sing along.
"You better play it, look at the girl, she can barely breathe." - Tommy chimed in with a bottle of beer for you. You honestly loved Tommy  - he was the cool uncle who was up to fo stuff with you, who loved your craziest ideas and supported your dreams ever since he started to live in Jackon with Maria, Joel, and Ellie. While Tommy was this social person who was always up for some fun, Joel never engaged with other people that much. This old man was one big mystery.
You watched him shift his posture, looking at you. Suddenly, he gave the songbook back to you, pushing it into your palm. - "What are you doing?" - You smiled, giggling at that. Joel took a sip of his coffee, preparing for another row of playing.
"You have to hold it, need to see the chords, kiddo." - Joels elbow gently bumped into your ribs, having you completely out of focus for a small while. The look you spared him was somehow endless. Your expression froze for a second when you let your eyes to look down into that man’s eyes. A weird small thing has clicked inside of you, taking all of the air out of your lungs. It was similar to taking a deep dive under the surface - blood rushing through your eardrums, your stomach contracted and your head spun for a small while, having you wink a few times.
"Hey, you good? Seems like you'll throw up." - The man spoke up, waking you up from the trance. To hide how the shakiness of your fingers, you gulped down some beer, looking away. What the fuck? What the fuck was that? What had just happened?
"No, I just think you're full of shit." - You mumbled back. A shit-eating grin appeared on your face, telling Joel that you're just fucking with him. Joel's arms circled the instrument as he exhaled with his eyes on the fire in front of you. His lips clicked quickly, having you fully smile at that moment. - "I am full of shit, okay. How so?" - Joel asked back.
Slowly, he watched your posture relaxing once again. For a moment, you licked your lips and watched the fire while Joel waited for what you had to say. - "Because I know that you have all the chords inside here, asshole." - You rose your eyebrows, tapping your temple with the notebook. - "Or is dementia knocking on your door already?"
Honestly, no-one would suspect this joke would make Joel burst out of laughter as much as it did. Yet he found it hilarious. It made Ellie look at both of you as well. Joel never laughed like that in public, so it was a very scary experience to go through. But after that, you scooped back on your spot and opened the songbook again, making sure he sees all of it.
It was strange to feel his forearm touching your skin. It was itching weirdly, but you didn't scoop off. You secretly hoped that this small contact would never end. You tried to hide a weird smirk that appeared on your face, feeling your cheeks getting heated up for a small moment.
"And I heard, as it were, the noise of thunder. One of the four beasts saying, 'come and see.' and I saw, and behold a white horse." - Joel recited and before you could ask what did that fucking meant, the first chords of the song were played. It was an intro to the song, you figured out pretty quickly when he sang the first words. His elbow bumped into you again, his face was encouraging you to sing with him. And even though singing wasn't exactly your best feature, you joined in.
It made a lot of people chuckle - not because they sensed the strange situation or the cringe of all of it, but because you had a problem with timing the words right. Why did you have such a problem with fitting the timing? No mystery here - you were singing the song for the very first time.
Ellie could see that both you and Joel were having a lot of fun even when you were only singing. For a reason, the man seemed to enjoy someone interested in something he was into. He suddenly seemed to be a good few years younger with you singing by his side. And you just seemed overall happy for a reason, even bursting into laughter at one point in the song.
"They would be a good pair." - Dina said all of a sudden, having Ellie looking at her. She was staring for a while at that moment, thinking about kissing Dina out of the blue, just trying her chances. Yet this was a surprised her. The green-eyed girl widened her eyes, being scared. After this statement, Ellie drank the whole glass at once, gulping it down quickly. - "Just saying, Jesus. What was that for?" - Dina laughed while you and Joel seemed to have some extremely funny conversation with Maria and Tommy chiming in.
"Joel... Like my Joel and our Y/N? They would be a good pair?" - Ellie stood up, helping Dina on her feet as well. The girls were watching both of you sitting there and laughing at something Tommy had said. It was most likely his anecdote that had happened in the woods last week. It was pretty funny, Ellie had heard it two times already.
"Look at them. Have you seen him calm like that in the last few years? After you and him," - "Dina, I don't need your lecturing now. Shove it up to your ass, thank you." - "But he was eating one's heart ever since last year. Look at him now." - Dina ended the discussion, taking another long swing. At that, Ellie just inflated her cheeks, tapping her boot into the ground.
"Or you better look where you're stepping, old man." - You answered Tommy after him telling you the story of how he accidentally stepped into bear shit. - "Would save Maria a lot of work, eh?" - You asked the woman in front of you. She didn't tell Tommy a word, but her expression was clear as a day.
"Anyway, we need to go now. Have some work at home, so, see you tomorrow at lunch?" - Tommy asked. So sex was now called having some work at home? What else would they do at midnight? A loud, unbelieving exhale came out of your lips with giggles when the pair was leaving you there with Joel. A lot of people started to leave and you even saw Dina and Jesse hugging Ellie, taking off. - "You goin’ too? I'm not goin’ to force you to stay late or whatever." - Joel sipped coffee again. You were taking in the whole situation and the sight of the man. He was nervously playing with the string while thoughts were flashing through his head.
Were you ready to go to sleep? Fuck no. Your body was fully awake, ready for more things to experience. And you hadn't felt anything like that in a long time. It was a nice change.
"I'm not tired, to be honest." - You shook your head, going through the songbook to see if some song would catch your eye. You took another sip of the beer, leaning your palm into the log beneath you. At that moment, Ellie approached you uncomfortably with her palms in the pockets of her jeans. She was looking all around so she didn't have to look Joel in the face.
"You want me to take you home, babe?" - Ellie asked you quietly, tapping the tip of her boot violently. She was nervous. But you stood up and hugged her, keeping your eyes closed the whole time, shaking your head gently.
"Get some sleep, hun, take a rest, and tomorrow, I'll kick your ass, yeah?" - You teased your best friend, having her biting her lower lips. - "’ kay, you liar. You won't kick my ass." - With that, she turned her look to Joel. - "Good night, Joel." - She whispered nervously, turning her head almost immediately.
The situation between these two was still bad, but some small steps were happening which moved the relationship forward. A month ago, she would never greet him. This was something huge happening in front of you. When she left, your steps led you back to sit next to Joel, looking at the burning fire.
"Can I ask you something?" - You mumbled, turning your face at Joel. The man nodded immediately, waiting for the question itself. -"Will you play something for me? I mean, whatever you want to."
"I already did, kiddo. Do I look like a jukebox to you?" - Joel asked with a serious face, putting the mug of coffee down on the ground. First, you thought he really won't play shit for you, but the grin sneaking to his face had disclosed him. This time, you were the one who was bumping the elbow to his side. - "Ever heard of Pearl Jam or nah?" - He asked, already playing the first chords. Slowly, not to bump into the guitar, you turned around to face him.
"No, never before."
And the song was an experience that made you shut up. You were just sitting there, next to the man, holding the bottle in both your palms. You weren't even blinking when you listened to the love song. It was slow, romantic and it could be seen that Joel has a lot of feelings for that song. Genuine feelings that most likely were bonding to Ellie in some way. It was a beautiful and intimate moment.
Your eyes were taking in the man as a whole - his fingers traveling around the instrument, plucking the chords. Sometimes, his eyes watched the strings to make sure he's not plucking the wrong ones, sometimes he slipped to you being lost in the song, which made him grin widely.
You never saw this man as someone strikingly handsome, but this night was different. The gaze you were giving him traveled from his chin covered in messy beard to his maybe-too-long hair, then to the curve his lips and nose, ending at the dark eyes which were watching you back. It was at that moment you realized you might have stared at him for too long, so you chuckled and looked away to the bonfire, taking a swing of the beer.
"That's Future Days for you, missy." - Joel said in the end, clearly still grinning. Being caught staring was something out-of-character for you that he found it cute to see you being embarrassed with yourself. He didn't have any particular feeling about you staring for too long - at the end, whose ego wouldn't boost stare from such a young, pretty lady in the end? Joel was too old to even try his chances anyway, so it didn't matter that much anyway. At that moment, you didn't think that Joel has some chances with you either, not knowing what will be happening just a year after the campfire.  - "I have one more if you're not hurryin’ home?"
When you shook your head, another song was started. It was slow as well, but this one felt way more playful. Joel sat up a bit straight, giving you another grin, making you chuckle. He was maybe trying what your reaction will be unwitting with this one, he didn't know either. It was just a sudden feeling that he should play this song at that moment.
"We're talking away. I don't know what - I'm to say I'll say it anyway. Today's another day to find you, shying away - I'll be coming for your love, okay? Take on me. Take me on." - The man sang, having you on the edge completely this time. You weren't turning away, which seemed to be a positive reaction. There was some shine in your eyes, telling him that no matter what, you want to hear what he has to say. - "So needless to say, I'm odds and ends. But I'll be stumbling away, slowly learning that life is okay. Say after me it's no better to be safe than sorry."
He was kinda surprised when he heard you singing the word of the chorus as well, joining in. Joel nodded quickly to assure you that you're okay and that he wants you to sing as well. So you did. For you, he even added two extra choruses to hear you enjoy the song. It was a gift to play for someone genuinely interested in these things.
"I like this one. Who sang it?" - You smiled, leaning the side of your face to your shoulder.
"I wrote it, youngblood. Ain’t it obvious?" - Joel chuckled, having you laugh again. Something similar to liar came out of your lips, having him smiling again. - "A band named A-Ha. I have some of their tapes at home if you'd like to,"
"I would love to." - You burst out suddenly, laughing when you realized that was a bit childish. With that, you got up and looked down on the man. - "It was nice of you. Maybe you can teach me how to play it one day?"
"I would love to." - He repeated after you, standing up as well as he swung the guitar over his shoulder, picking the mug from the ground. - "You want me to go with you?" - He asked seriously. It wasn’t a romantic gesture or a security precaution, it was just Joel being a gentleman.
With a shy smile, you nodded, walking with him through the whole town to your house - even if he lived on the other side and this was out-of-way for Joel.
The spring of 2038, two days before the incident:
"That's how it happened, yeah." - You whispered, smiling at the memory of that night. You laughed the whole way to your house since the man had some good jokes. You never heard him speak as much before that night when you thought about it. - "Can you please now forget what happened? It's so embarrassing."
"I don't think I will." - Joel sighed before he let out a big yawn. You didn't know what did that meant either. Joel was being all mysterious again, having you rolling your eyes. - "I'm not mad, it just took me by a surprise. But I'm tired, can we go to sleep now?"
"Now you sound like an old man." - It was a thing you said when you got out of the bed. That made Joel furrow and looking at your back to see what you were about. Were you leaving? Because of what happened? He was very fond of you, it could be called love for God’s sake, yet he wasnt the type to say it just like that. It was too early to get emotionally attached to him. But when you walked around your clothes on the floor and stopped in the doorframe, you turned back at him with a smile.
"I'm going to have a glass of water. You want something?" - That was his chance. To say something nice and kind, something he meant from the bottom of your heart but wasn’t as game-changing as the three words that accidentally slipped out of you. - "Yea." - The man nodded, leaning his elbow to the bed to support his head while looking at you. Your head motioned at him to continue. - "Can you be back as soon as possible?"
And that made you smile and your cheeks heated up as you left the bedroom, bringing him a glass as well since the old man needed his hydration.
