HAHA in all seriousness. some rambling under the cut. here's a doodle of a familiar face as a preemptive reward.

the tentative beginning of all this is as such: similar to how 'fish' means 'animal with gills that lives in water', 'dragon' is a word for 'animal with mechanical components, derived from an ancestor with digging and flying phases of its lifestyle'. different classes of dragons might be as related to one another as, for example, hagfish and humans. different groups of humans encountered and domesticated different groups of dragons through history, selecting for different functions; in the modern day, you may find them used as we use various heavy machines in our own world.

clear as mud?! sorry. as you might imagine, history, engineering, biology and so forth are EXTREMELY different over there. but don't even worry about it! for your average working class person on the ground, they're just a fact of life. about 0.8% of the australian population are truck drivers; a similar statistic applies to people who fly transport dragons, like my hypothetical doodle of b'elanna up there. obviously this correlates with class position- if you're working class, you probably know a truck driver, or know someone who knows a truck driver, yeah? it's like that here. expanding the statistic to all heavy machine operaters is a bit trickier and i've already gone down enough rabbit holes, so that's good enough as an analogy. hope you enjoyed this brief ramble!

Is your OC self-destructive? In what ways? idk. IS the tank that takes hits for everyone self destructive?? jkjk. theyre not intentionally self destructive! soleil is filled with wonder and whimsy, and they have confidence in themself. but its like. their attitude of "i will not tell you a single thing about who i am because even the slightest amount of give will open up opportunity to get to know me more. which i do not want." is actually kind of insane. theyre also very lonely which does not help this at all.

How does your OC want to be seen by other characters? like polaris. a guiding star. visible and helpful, but far from reach.

I am writing a character with OSDD1a, is there anything I should avoid doing? Or something you particularly suggest?

Again, I'm assuming that you're the same anon. All the questions you've asked make it clear that you're a singlet. With that in mind, there is only one piece of advice I can give you in regards to writing a character with OSDD1a.

Don't.

Well, ok, here's a bit more nuance: A main character or just a side character? A side character who helps the MC for a chapter then goes about their own business, yeah, you can try your best.

But don't write your main character as someone with OSDD and most definitley don't write ABOUT having OSDD. You don't have the knowledge or experience to do that. Leave it to the people who are systems.

I'm going to talk now on the assumption that you want to write your main character as an OSDD1a system. I may be wrong on that, but this post is for everyone to see, so maybe it will reach someone who does have this plan. So this bit is for everyone.

WHY do you want to use a character with OSDD? Knowing your intentions can tell you a lot about how to go about something.

Representation? No. It's not your job nor your place to represent systems and the lives they live around being a part of one. That is something that ONLY a sytem can do. It's a job for lived experience only.

You think it's cool? No. It's not cool and you're strange for thinking that. It also tells me that you don't respect the condition beyond it's cool factor.

Sorry, anon, if this wasn' the answer you wanted to hear. But OSDD is such a complex and complicated condition. I don't think it's worth the risk of bad representation.
