I think one of the reasons ants are so interesting to watch is the expressive way they move their antennae. They move them independently, almost like a person feeling around trying to understand their surroundings. Not all arthropods do this— some just hold them out passively— but not ants! They will tappity tap tap u.
If you were talking to an ant she'd be touching you all over your face and body with those things. And she could probably find out all kinds of things about you you didn't even know yourself...
(though maybe not as much if you aren't an ant too, but I bet ants big enough to talk face to face with people would learn.)
"You have low blood sugar! And congratulations on the pregnancy!"

Video description: An animation of a honey pot ant being carried away suddenly by a ladybug. The ant is a bit heavy for the ladybug to carry, and so the ant's head is dragged across a stream of water before moving offscreen. The video is a small clip of a longer promotional material for The Ants: Underground Kingdom, an ant-based game on the App Store.

exciting find today!! I believe this is a Red-and-Black Ant Mimic, a species of jumping spider evolved to mimic Strobe ants (family Opisthopsis). While I dont have a positive ID, this female looks like she's mimicking the Black-Headed Strobe Ant (Opisthopsis rufithorax).
Tumblr media
Ant mimic spiders (Salticids or otherwise) are so fascinating to me, but I rarely get to see them, let alone get a clear photo. This girl was moving around so quickly (also mimicking the quick, jagged movements of Strobe ants) and I didn't have my macro on me, so sorry for the photo quality! she's too cool not to share anyway imo :,)
🕷!!!
Red-and-Black Ant Mimic, female (Myrmarachne bicolor).

Sometimes I remember that one of the JumpStart video games have a section where you play as a leafcutter ant, and one of the minigames involved running away from a parasitic fly that was trying to lay eggs in you

oh wait so like. so what it is in the ant arc is that Gon becomes so overwhelmed by his fear of losing someone he cares about that the entire fundamental concept of the archetypal Shounen Battle Friendship breaks down, i.e. he stops implicitly trusting that Killua's strength and abilities will always overcome any obstacle and he stops assuming that Killua/the two of them will always win.
Because like. It is Not that he doesn't believe that Killua is strong and skilled and capable of all sorts of incredible things. It's that Plot Armor isn't actually carrying them anymore, it never truly was, and now the situation they're in has finally outpaced their abilities and they've Lost in a profound and terrible way that they have never Lost before, and now he knows that no matter how strong you are nothing is truly safe
like i,, i feel like all of this is, obvious, to be clear,,, but, it is. it's. the complete erosion of the genre tropes to underscore the terrible reality of the situation. it is, hitting me,

She was “escaped” for 2 min and in that time found a ‘thing’ she simply must bring back to her nest. It’s bigger than her body— I think it’s a dead fruit fly.
Forget sigma grindset— get ready for the tiny ant grindset.

Question: Who did you idolize when coming through karting and the junior ranks? Is that driver on the grid today? If so, have you told him? Oscar: I would say I never had one specific idol. When I was growing up watching, Mark Webber was at Red Bull and he is now my manager, which is still weird to say three years working together. But obviously, being Australian, being in a Red Bull that was very quick at the time, I kind of naturally followed him. I mean, even like some of the guys in the junior ranks above me, you know, like Lando was always like two three years above me winning most things on his way up. So, I guess kind of him in some ways
