Results from the Tapinocephalus AZ #paleostream!
Many famous and less famous fossils in here! This was a challenging image, there are A LOT of animals from this faunal zone, and much of the megafauna is within the same size range, but there are also a few small, really interesting critters.
So I ended up with this watering hole scene, looking down from a little hill.

A portrait of Anteosaurus magnificens, the largest land predator of the Permian and the Paleozoic, and possibly the only thing the stem-mammal synapsids have got to Tyrannosaurus rex

Paleovember 2022, Anteosaurus!
A non mammalian synapsid from the Mid Permian in South Africa, Anteosaurus had a Tyrannosaurus head before Tyrannosaurus! It was also similar to tyrannosaurs in that it went through similar growth stages demonstrated by its skull continuing to thicken throughout its life.

I LOVE how you draw Anteosaurus. It can look scary half of the time, but gentle and friend shaped the other. Idk I guess I’m just a sucker for that kind of stuff, I adore it.
Thank you very much, the Middle Permian was truly a time of potato on potato violence!

Anteosaurus magnificus, the largest terrestrial predator of the Permian.
There’s really only a half-dozen or so good drawings of this thing out there, despite it being an objectively awesome animal. The thick bosses covering its skull may have been for display, combat, or just reinforcing the skull for a stronger bite.
Done for my blog post on @synapsidnotebook about this taxon.

Oh dear, Moose seems to be in a rather precarious situation... Mayhaps next time he'll look where he's going.
