10/29/22 Egg Lore RECAP

Proceed with caution! Spoilers Ahead!

This recap is fairly long and detailed, it reads a little like a fic. Fair warning.

OK! So we start off with a recap of the previous Egg lore streams last week! This recap takes a while but I’m going to skip it for now since I haven’t watched every POV and those streams are from last week. After the recap, we see Bad’s POV of the events directly after the Red Banquet. He flees on a boat across the ocean, thinking about how he found the Egg and what it, or rather he has done.

He lands on BD island, where Skeppy has been living alone, apparently refusing to talk to Bad. Bad stands at the door to the house and tells Skeppy that he was right about the Egg, he seems horrified that he attempted to kill all his friends, and wonders if they’ll ever be able to forgive him. He then goes to sit on a dock outside. 

(ANIMATION) While Bad is sitting on the dock, Skeppy exits the house and slowly comes to stand beside him, holding a diamond sword. Bad, without looking up, asks Skeppy if he thinks their friends will ever be able to forgive the Red Banquet. Skeppy says he thinks they will. The screen then cuts to black, the animatic ends, and we hear the sound of a sword swinging. It is heavily implied that Skeppy has killed Bad.(ANIMATION END)

Bad wakes up in his bed at the mansion, and we see that his clothing (previously turned white by the Egg’s influence) is now back to its usual red tinting. This is essentially an unspoken way of communicating that Bad’s death has freed him from the Egg. I’m unsure if it was a canon death or not. Bad’s soul is tied to Skeppy’s life and I’m not sure if canon deaths mean anything as he is effectively immortal in that regard. Bad, after just laying bed for a while, gets up and leaves the mansion. It is an overcast day on the Dream SMP.

We then go into another cutscene, but it’s more of a continuous flying shot. We start at the nether portal, and ominous, tense music is playing. As we fly down the prime path, the scene flashes from normal to covered in Crimson with the beat of the music. It’s almost as if we’re seeing flashes of either the future, or an alternate world where the Egg takes over. The shot slows down as it reaches Bad’s Mansion. Through the arch on the prime path just before it lowers to Bad’s house, we see a consistent Crimson view. Outside of this framed arch, the world is normal. The camera slowly enters under the arch, and as we come out the other side we enter an entirely Crimson world.

After this ominous view of the greater prime area, we cut to the present where Bad is heading into the community house. There he meets Ponk and Eryn, all of them are in full netherite except for a lack of helmets. Bad, who is clearly in charge, goes over the plan - They plan to enter the Egg’s current room, look any signs of Puffy, and then leave. The reason they aren’t wearing helmets is because Bad has given them iron ones, which they’ll wear in the Egg’s room to protect their minds (the Egg is weak against iron.) They are in full netherite because they expect resistance from the others (Sam, Ant, Hannah, CPK) and are willing to get in there by any means necessary.

We then cut to Sam, who leaves his bank and heads to a trapdoor just outside, where he descends into a bunker-like area. Hannah, Ant, and CPK are all already there. Their plan is: keep Bad, Ponk, and Eryn out of the Egg’s room by any means necessary. They believe that the three have been possessed by the Egg, and are trying to release it. Sam also adds that he’s added “surprises” in case things get messy. CPK expresses doubt that this is the only way, it seems as though he doesn’t want to fight the other three, but the rest of the group convinces him.

We cut back to Bad and his group, who are walking down the path, talking about how all known entrances to the Egg’s room have been sealed overnight somehow. This was done by Ant’s group to force them toward the spawner entrance, but the three don’t know that. They head to the spider spawner where the other four are waiting for them. 

 Ant, who is in front, and his group confront Bad, Eryn, and Ponk. Bad pleads to the other group to allow them to look for Puffy, but is refused. They all accuse each other of working for the Egg, with Bad saying it seems as though there’s something down there “you don’t want us to see.” Ponk brings the three of them together in a group huddle and explains that they will distract the other group, and then Bad and Eryn can get to the Egg. They then approach the other side, where they claim they actually think Bad and Eryn are crazy and want to help stop them from getting the Egg. Ant and his group lower their guard, and Ponk attacks them, driving them away from the spawner entrance. 

Bad and Eryn drop down, followed closely by Ant and Hannah. Ponk stops Sam from following, and reveals that they are the one that has taken Fran. They appear very angry, and want to get revenge on Sam. Sam begs for Fran not to be hurt, and Ponk demands he remove his armor and weapons, which he does.

The scene switches to Bad and Eryn, who have a head start and manage to get into the Red Banquet Hall, and seal up the entrance behind them to slow Ant, Hannah, and CPK down. Eryn hasn’t really been here before and is curious, Bad tells him that the Egg teleported deeper underground after Foolish attempted to destroy it. Bad thinks the Egg is indestructible.

We cut back to Ponk and Sam, and from Sam’s voice we can assume Ponk has been torturing him. Sam is slowly being backed into his own bank, with Ponk telling him how much their torture at his hands affected them. Sam begs them not to hurt Fran, and Ponk says that after they’ve finished with Sam, they’ll kill Fran slowly. Sam asks how can they do that if they’re dead, and then seemingly uses a statis chamber to teleport out of the bank. Ponk is confused, until they realize that Sam rigged the building with TNT. They manage to say “Oh sh-“ before being blown to pieces.

We switch to Sam, who is dragging himself forward (through his house? Ponk’s house? I’m not sure) muttering weakly that he’ll save Fran over and over again. He collapses and dies from his injuries before he gets to where he was trying to go. Sad music plays as the camera leaves Sam’s body and flies slowly down the hall to the end. Behind bars is Fran, tied to a post. Seeing as both Ponk and Sam are dead, we don’t know what will happen as no one knows where this dog is. Fran whimpers, and the screen cuts to black.

Bad and Eryn make their way down Sam Bucket’s tunnels, except something is different. The place is covered in Crimson, and Bad says that the only way this could’ve happened is if someone broke the iron seal, and freed the Egg. As they get to the entrance, they realize the seal has indeed been destroyed, and they walk into the room, to stand in front of the Egg in all its glory. Really cool and ominous organ music plays as we get a full shot of the Egg, with them below it.

They look up and see that Puffy is trapped in a cage hanging from the ceiling of the room and isn’t moving. Bad says that this must’ve been what the other group was trying to hide from them. Before they can free Puffy the other group arrives. They are also shocked to see Puffy, and Hannah and Ant immediately accuse Bad and Eryn of doing this. Ant goes off on Bad about being the source of all their problems related to the Egg. Bad says that Ant was just as involved as him. Ant says that Bad has lost nothing to the Egg, and got to escape it without harm. They accuse each other of working for the Egg again. 

 CPK gets in between them, claiming that they all care about Puffy and that they shouldn’t argue. CPK defends Bad and Ponk, stating that the two of them were nice to him when he joined, and were his first friends. He turns to face Bad as he says that he believes him. Hannah protests, but CPK stays firm that they shouldn’t be fighting, that they should listen to each other. He doesn’t get to say anything else. As his back is turned, Ant strikes him down with an axe and kills him, right in front of the Egg.

Everyone is shocked, including Hannah. Ant says he can’t do this anymore, he seems extremely agitated and not thinking clearly. Bad is extremely angry, and tells Ant that he will kill him before attacking. Ant is forced out of the room, and Bad follows. They fight for a bit, before Bad stops and pleads for Ant to listen and believe him when he says he isn’t controlled. Ant swears to kill him and break the Egg’s perceived hold on him.

We switch to Eryn and Hannah who are also fighting. Hannah launches into a speech about how terrible Bad is, about how Bad is the one who did all the damage with the Egg before. She says she betrayed her friends because she trusted Bad. Eryn tells her that Bad isn’t like that anymore, and that Hannah is scapegoating him for her own guilt and mistakes. Hannah admits that maybe she is, but at least she knows the danger of the Egg. Hannah once again tells Eryn that Bad is just tricking all of them, but Eryn doesn’t believe her. Hannah lowers her weapon and says that she doesn’t want to fight, and that maybe they can find Bad and Ant and talk it out. Eryn trusts her and lowers his weapon as well.

We cut back to Bad and Ant. Ant has Bad backed into a corner, where he is still pleading to be believed. Ant says that it doesn’t matter if Bad or himself is controlled, only that this needs to end, and for that to happen Bad must die. Bad reluctantly responds that he will kill Ant to protect himself, and they launch into another fight.

We switch back to Hannah and Eryn. Eryn turns to question what to do with Puffy, and Hannah attacks him again, unwilling to risk the Egg winning. Just as she is about to kill him, Bad appears and shoves her into one of the many lava pits surrounding the Egg. He says, “I’m getting good at that.” 

It is implied that Bad has also killed Ant as well.

Bad and Eryn have a conversation about Eryn’s parents. Eryn wants to ask the Egg where they are, and get its help. Bad knows that even if the Egg knows the truth, it will only ever hold it just out of reach. He promises to help find Eryn’s parents once they get out of here, and Eryn agrees. Eryn is then shoved into lava by a previously unseen person, and the Egg begins to rumble. All the people being killed around it are acting as sacrifices, feeding its power. Bad is left the lone survivor of the group, and turns to face the person who killed Eryn: Puffy. Bad asks her why, and as she opens her mouth to speak, her voice morphs into that of the Egg. (The Egg is voiced by Velvet.) 

The Egg launches into a very very good and very very long speech about how it has lived for eons but has constantly been thwarted by ‘heroes.’ It speaks about the nature of humanity: to be controlled by fear and hatred, to turn on friends at the slightest provocation. It tells Bad that he belongs to it. It explains that the one who planted the evidence that split the group was Skeppy. 

 Although Skeppy was freed from the Egg, he feared for Bad’s freedom, and made a deal with the Egg of his own volition so that it would release Bad from its grip. In return, he did its work for it. But none of that mattered in the end, according to the Egg, because Bad ended up right back in front of it anyway. 

It tells Bad he belongs to it. It says, “You are mine.” 

 It says that he is destined to serve it until he dies, which won’t be long. It intends for Bad to be its final, and greatest sacrifice. 

 Bad doesn’t even try to get away as Puffy raises her axe to kill him. 

 And that’s the end. 

 The credits roll, faded shots of the Dream SMP. It ends on a shot of the Egg. As the screen fades to black, we hear the unmistakable sound of an eggshell cracking.

The end.

Post-Red Banquet -> Present Day lore recap!

Lore and arcs summarized for each character who’s part of the Egglore finale, up to present day. Just a basic refresher to know where each character is at currently

*Updated to Ponk’s lore stream “A Helping Hand” so it’ll be outdated for current egglore

c!Hannah

Was granted fairy wings from DreamXD

Sam employed her and c!Boomer to work under Awesamdude Inc. She is the bank manager. Boomer and her share a strange connection/familiarity, and became fast friends.

Sam holds what happened at the Red Banquet against Hannah, but she wants to move on since it’s “all in the past.”

Boomer tears off her wings accidentally, they declare each other as enemies and fight. Sam wants them to fix their issues for the sake of the business. She’s upset at both of them for not caring.

Currently: desperate to have her wings back, wants to ask DreamXD but can’t get in contact

c!Sam

Locked the Egg away after the Red Banquet, was still the Prison Warden. On the side, works on Awesamdude Inc. for the bank and Las Nevadas for Quackity.

Big reveal that he can transfer his soul between (possibly artificial) bodies that lay dormant all around the server. He knows c!Boomer from the past.

The whole giant Prison Saga which I’ll sum up very briefly: People die on his watch, he continues getting corrupted mentally by the Warden role. Allows violence, kidnaps and takes lives himself believing it’s for righteous reasons, and everybody escapes from the prison in the end. Very few people trust him now.

Gets locked in the prison as retribution. c!Dream visits every day, breaks down his willpower, and takes a canon life.

Has nothing else to do but throw himself into work with Awesamdude Inc. Regularly doing projects with Sam Nook and Foolish.

Egg Resurgence Arc. He finds out that the Egg is growing in power, realizes his methods to contain the entity didn’t work, and is worried about Bad.

Sam Bucket Saga

Currently: just disturbed by everything.

c!Ponk

Post-Red Banquet, moves into the Summer Home to regain Foolish’s trust and heal from egg control, they become good friends, and she later moves out

Confronts Sam for chopping off his hand. Finds out that Foolish went on a date with Sam and breaks off their friendship. Cuts off all ties and lives in a cave for a while.

Later rebuilds their friendship with Foolish.

Confronts Sam again after the prison break for what he’s done. Is disappointed in what Sam has become, when he used to be such an amazing person.

Still lives in a cave, not doing too well & had another bad encounter with Sam

Currently: desperate to get his hand back and went to the Egg for help (egglore finale)

c!Puffy

Still unsure of how she got to the dsmp, had gotten amnesia from her ship crashing during a storm.

Accepts that everybody on the dsmp is evil in some way, even herself for killing Antfrost at the Red Banquet. Ant and her mutually apologize. Was still upset at Bad.

Slightly involved in the L’Sandburg War arc

Gets her restaurant exploded. Later on decides to leave, wanting a new start.

Currently: birthday party

c!Eryn

Half demon, knows Tommy from childhood. His parents died in an attack on their village, and after many years of traveling he arrives in the dsmp. Tries to befriend Tommy again.

Immediately gets attached to Badboyhalo as a father figure. Views Sapnap as a brother.

Big reveal that they can relive past moments of war and violence as auditory hallucinations. Hears the Red Banquet but doesn’t believe that c!Bad would’ve ever hurt anyone.

History lesson from Eret. c!Dream prison escape happens.

Everybody on the server seems on edge and depressed now, Eryn is upset that he can’t help. Feeling lonely & also scared by the past violence he heard, they hide underground for several weeks until c!Aimsey comes and the two become friends.

Currently: deflecting their emotions but otherwise is doing okay

c!Antfrost

Apologized to everyone for his involvement with the Egg and Red Banquet.

Continued to work as a prison guard under Sam.

Takes his work vacation only to come back and find that c!Dream has escaped the prison. Sam blamed him for not being there to help.

Ant talks to Bad and they confront Sam for abandoning the Badlands and blaming them when he should be responsible. After more arguing, Ant quit the job and left.

Currently: unknown

c!Seapeekay (C!PK)

Fox that can travel to different dimensions and ended up in the dsmp.

Is given a tour by Ponk and later Badboyhalo. Bad repeatedly loses his memory of meeting CPK during this because of the egg trying to control him. Foolish quickly intervenes and brings the two to the Summer Home. Bad later takes CPK to the egg room, before managing to stop himself and disinfects the two in a panic. (this is one of my favorite lore streams)

One day CPK hears creepy voices, curiously goes to the source (egg room) then passes out.

Starts changing his preferences to the color red & his fur becomes discolored.

Another day when cc!CPK is not at the computer, his character begins unconsciously moving on its own. He goes to the Egg and touches it, then runs away. 

He and Aimsey make a team devoted to fixing things but it doesn’t work out. He decides to destroy stuff instead and his house gets exploded.

Currently: unknown. probably not doing very good

c!Badboyhalo

Was not willing to apologize to everyone for his involvement with the Egg and Red Banquet. Trying very hard to repress it out of guilt.

Continued to work as a prison guard under Sam.

Decides to live with Foolish at the Summer Home, beginning the very long rollercoaster ride that is the Roommate Saga. Many arcs are part of it, in order we have:

The L’Sandburg War arc

The DreamXD Statue arc. We find out XD hates Bad for some reason.

The L’Cactusburg Prank War arc. Bad & Skeppy’s house got moved to Ohio.

Dream prison escape, Bad quits his job as a prison guard along with Antfrost.

Egg Resurgence Arc. One part being the CPK tour egg-control thing already talked about above. The other part follows Bad and Foolish trying to find out why the Egg is growing stronger, as bloodvines are growing around the Summer Home & Foolish’s builds.

Bad moves out, ending the Roommate Saga “for now”

Sam Bucket Saga

Currently: friends with Sam Bucket, concerned about the Egg and is gathering people for Puffy’s birthday party

The Egg

Got drowned in church prime by Foolish Post-Red Banquet

Tried to get revenge on Foolish and infect Bad again during the Egg Resurgence Arc

Successfully infected C!PK instead

Was “destroyed” by Foolish but actually just moved somewhere else (has similar properties to an ender dragon egg)

Momentarily stopped by Sam Bucket

Currently: growing more powerful. uh oh.

Post-Red Banquet, the Egg was in his head until he drowned it in prime water. They apparently have a long history that Foolish doesn’t remember.

The Roommate Saga & the Las Nevadas Saga happening at the same time

DreamXD Statue arc, became besties with XD and was granted immortality and knowledge of the Death Book.

Egg Resurgence Arc same as with Bad. Foolish used his immortality to destroy the Egg; the action kickstarting the Sam Bucket Saga. The egg moved locations and is now more dangerous.

Roommate Saga end & Las Nevadas Finale

Currently: fixing Las Nevadas with c!Quackity

c!Skeppy

Was slightly involved in the L’Sandburg War and L’Cactusburg Prank War arcs. Him and Bad’s house got moved to Ohio so they rebuilt it.

Currently: living quietly at his house

c!Punz

Has mostly been planning things with c!Dream after the prison escape

Slightly involved in Las Nevadas Finale

Currently: unknown

Sam Bucket

Was a victim of the Egg long ago. He wanted his dog Francis back and the Egg said it could help

Realized he was being controlled and discovered the egg’s weakness to iron. Buried himself with the Egg so hopefully no one would ever find it again. Now has an extended lifespan and teleportation powers

Badboyhalo rediscovered the egg and got corrupted. Sam Bucket wasn’t able to stop the Red Banquet & could only watch

Could physically appear as a result of the Egg Resurgence arc

Sam Bucket Saga. Is trying to protect people from the egg

Watching Ant's lore because I adore him, so here's a little summary, liveblogging style:

Starts off with Ant going to work after 4 days of absence. He seems to be unaware of Dream's escape?

Immediately thinking of calling in sick, me too Ant, me too

Ant immediately mistaking Tommy's wall for the start of a bee farm. Honestly, a new bee farm could be nice, maybe once Dream is dealt with.

He's really regretting being hired right now

Sam!!

"You took off for... let's see, a nice smooth seven days? Six days?" did... did Ant not inform Sam of how long his leave would be...?

"Ant, do you have any idea what's happened?" Does he look like someone who knows what's going on? My meow meow was most likely high for most of his leave...

"Ant, I'm about to blow a casket right now, what do you mean?" My man is so done with life right now. Please Sam just explain, everything is alright buddy

"What's wrong?! Dream's escaped prison!" THANK YOU! Also, Ant immediately reacted with denial. I feel like that's the most common coping mechanism in the server

Sam is keeping himself from strangling Ant so hard right now. I feel like Ant wouldn't be breathing if they weren't friends

"It's impossible to get out of the prison, you can't get out of the prison, that's sort of the point!" It's incredible how much everyone believed in the prison

Btw, the reason Sam is so pissed is that Ant didn't come back from his break when he got the serious alarm that meant there was a prison break happening

"How am I getting blamed for your obvious shortcomings in designing the prison?" "My what?! For my what?!" "Clearly this is like-" "The only thing I was short in was picking who was gonna be a guard I guess, 'caus it clearly just wasn't that big of a deal to you apparently" OOOOOOH my meow meows are fighting!

"If you had the whole- if you had the entirety of the smp here to help you and you still couldn't contain him I don't know what me being there would have changed" "The entirety of the smp wasn't in the prison actively helping. You could have been in the prison helping us actively stop him" To be fair to Ant, considering who they were up against, I don't think that him being there inside the prison would have made much difference

"Why didn't you hire a temp or something?!" "Hire a temp. You want me to hire a temp? Just trust a random person for a day? 'Hey! Come be- come be a prison guard for a day! Ha ha ha, it will be fun!'" Sam trust issues go brrr

Ant is now blaming the whole thing on Sam because he's the warden. Ant please, accept some personal responsibility for missing from work...

"I'm leaving this conversation before something bad happens" (threat)

"You know what? Fuck you Sam! Fuck you!" I would have paid for him to say that to Sam's face

Bad!! Why's Bad on Tommy's wall? Guess he's patrolling a new place now...

"Sam just told me that Dream is free! That there's, like, a green maniac free on the server running around" Love that description

Bad feels like he did a bad job as a guard so now he's practicing by patrolling Tommy's walls, seems fair

Ant is now trying to convince Bad as well that the two of them are not to blame for Dream's escape, only Sam is. Dude, keeping him in is literally what they were hired to do. They're all to blame partially.

"There was blood everywhere, oh my goodness" Please someone draw the fight based on Bad's description, it's so much cooler

"Oh my goodness, this is gonna hurt my home's value..." Bad almost sounds like Technoblade right there

Also, Ant only now found out about Ranboo's death. Guess is to be expected since he knows literally nothing of what happened

Why does Bad keep drinking random water bottles? Is he staying hydrated or is there an alcoholism problem we should be talking about? Is that water?

Oooooh, so Bad was purposefully blocking Techno when he was trying to get to Ranboo, huh? 'Cause he thought that was a last-ditch hostage situation to get Dream back. Which I guess it was? But it also went horribly wrong. Bad didn't think that Sam would go through with the threat, but he did

"Bad, what are you drinking?" "Uuuuuh, apple juice" "Wh- there's no apples! Bad I can smell your breath!" Oh, it's definitely alcoholism then

Also, Bad didn't know why Ranboo was in the prison, and Connor canonically started yelling swears at Bad while he was doing his rounds

"That prison raised my propriety value, but now I think it's gonna tank it, ugh. Oh my goodness, I'm probably gonna have to sell it at a loss, it's awful" BAD, WHY IS THIS WHAT YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT??

What I got so far from Bad's retelling of the events is that the guards truly were not prepared for their job. Like, they weren't told what would happen in the case of a prison break or what to do, which seems like a failing on Sam's part there

"Dream deserves to be locked up! There's a reason- there's a reason we all agreed to put him in the prison" It's always nice to hear that literally almost every single character agrees on this one

"Ant, I always felt a little bad that Dream was- that Dream was in the prison. So I, like-" "Why?! Dream's a monster! Why would you feel bad that he was in the prison? Bad, don't you remember? All the horrible things that he's done?!" "Yeah but... didn't- didn't you sometimes hear? Like, when you'd be making your rounds you'd, like, hear what was going on. Like, the sounds coming from Dream's cell. Like the- the screaming" (...) "I think he was letting other people into Dream's cell!" Did Sam seriously let his guards work during the torture shifts? My man is seriously bad at concealing his crimes, huh?

Also because of that Bad wasn't actually able to help Sam trying and catch Dream again. He just felt awful for what he'd seen already and couldn't bring himself to do it. And now he feels double guilty for not helping because he too knows that Dream is dangerous. "If I had helped him going for Dream maybe we could have gotten him back in the cell, I don't know..."

"He's like, became absorbed by the prison! That's all he thinks about, he doesn't c- I feel like he doesn't even care about us or the badlands anymore. He's just like- it's always 'prison, prison, prison, containing Dream'" *nods* the prison is Sam's Egg

Oh wow, so Sam also tried to blame it entirely on Bad as well. Guys, that's on everyone, you all f*cked up there

"Sam's obviously the issue here" Like, one-third of the issue.

"Wait a minute, why did we have a guy locked up in the prison he designed? That seems like a flaw!" HEY WAIT A MINUTE, YEAH!

"Is Tommy okay?" "Uhm, you know what? The last time I talked to Tommy, I was walking down the Prime Path, he just walked up to me and he swore at me" Yeah, that definitely sounds like my shining star alright

"I'm just hoping he's [Tommy] hiding somewhere because..." Yeah, see, I wish he was as well, but an old fool convinced him that facing Dream head-on was the smart thing to do, so that may not be the case

Connor stole Tommy's house as well. That man is FAST!

"Yeah, no, if I was in Tommy's position I would be dipping" SEE, THAT WOULD BE THE SMART THING TO DO

"Oh, I'm sure Dream is gonna be so grateful that you snuck him a snack while keeping him locked up in a maximum-security prison where he could do nothing and see nothing from the outside world" (sarcasm) "You think?" "No, no Bad, I don't think so. I think he will hunt both of us down after he finishes work elsewhere" "Oh no..." I love them

They decide to go talk to Sam

Sam's mentality is literally "the ends justify the means" as long as the end goal is preserving prison security

Oooooh, Bad asked about the voices in Dream's cell and Sam is blaming it on Bad's alcoholism. Also, Sam used lying, it was super effective

"Do you like the idea that the only person who knows how to save people when they die is that maniac?"

"I find it interesting that you two are coming here to say that I'm not taking responsibility when neither one of you are taking responsibility either" this is literally just a blame game at this point. Why are all 3 of them so allergic to personal responsibility?

Also, Bad's definitely right in the Ranboo argument. He surrendered, he wasn't wearing armor or weapons, killing him in that context wasn't justifiable. Especially not to prove Sam was serious

"I'm the only smooth working piece of this machine here" He really identifies himself with the prison, huh?

Bad just quit his job. Why did he still have a job after the prison basically closed down? There are literally no prisoners, why where they still working there?

Fundy’s Stream

Fundy’s back! He confirmed that the Egg, BBH, and the Dreamons are all connected

Ranboo was roaming on Fundy’s stream, he mostly walked around similar to an NPC and moved blocks, ignoring Fundy and Puffy’s attempts to talk to him. He only stopped moving when Puffy stared him in the eyes, who claimed that she was frozen and couldn't move until he broke eye contact

Tommy’s Stream

The Big Innit Hotel is underway. Sam Nook asked Tommy to investigate the Egg before work could continue. BBH and Antfrost showed him the egg, but he was unaffected. BBH was very displeased with this, and says he’ll deal with Tommy later. It’s implied he want’s to kill him

Antfrost’s eyes are magenta now, and he’s speaking enchantment table

Tubbo investigated the Egg with Tommy. He was affected, but it only made him cry. A lot. BBH and Antfrost pull out weapons and start to threaten the two when they try to leave the Egg room. Sam Nook arrives as backup and they book it to the Holy Land

Ranboo’s Stream

Ranboo goes out adventuring with Techno. Turns out his silk touch hands can break spawners, though they default back to pig spawners when broken

He can also break an eaten cake to get a full, non eaten cake. Meaning he can create infinite cake.

Punz offered to trade the shulker for a spawner, but Ranboo decided to think on it

Tales from the SMP

The Lost City of Mizu is an abandoned, underwater city set hundreds of years in the future. The last remaining resident is a half enderman, half something hybrid named Ranbob, who claims to be a descendant of Ranboo

Mizu is filled with many shrine-like rooms dedicated to various Lmanburg citizens. These rooms have history books in them describing both the people and historic events, though they are largely inaccurate and missing many details

At the the final room, Ranbob says that no one can leave Mizu, and murders Cleetus (Quackity). The others escape to a hidden room. Benjamin (BBH) slips and dies to lava, leaving just Isaac (Karl) and Charles (Ranboo). At the true final room, they find a shrine to Dream. Ranbob finds them here and kills them, and the screen goes black. A version of Dearly Beloved plays out for the rest of the stream

Karl wakes up outside some sort of time travel portal. He runs to his library and begins to write down what happened at Mizu. He writes that every time he time travels, he starts to forget more and more memories. He talks about trying to fix the current timeline before something terrible happens

Karl’s hoodie has been inverted

Nov 25: Callahan steals all the bitches, Karl starts building Party Park

Eret’s adoption offer was a short-lived arc that ended sadly, but that same day, Ranboo would be added to the server, kicking off a long chain of events:

The Red Banquet | dsmp recap

A detailed recap of the events of the Red Banquet streams on 04/25. 

Those in attendance of the Red Banquet: Puffy, Niki, Hannah, Eret, HBomb, Awesamdude,  Foolish, Fundy, Antfrost, BadBoyHalo and Ponk.

The stream begins with Bad in front of the Egg in the statue room. He, Ant and Ponk wait for the arrival of the others.

Once everyone is gathered, Bad pulls Sam aside to talk, and makes sure they are on the same page on the banquet (that Bad wants to turn over a new leaf). After a bit of chatting and dancing, they get seated at the table. Ranboo is seen hidden in the back, with an axe.

A few people speak before they eat, all generally saying that they hope that things have really changed. Eret hopes that the server will go back to normal after this. Bad calls this a banquet that they will never forget.

Suddenly, the walls of the statue room turn completely into lava, trapping them in. There is no way for them to escape. 

Puffy says that they never trusted any of them, and goes to the chest of armour that they had planted in the table the other night. Hannah told the others about the armour, and she, Bad, Ant and Ponk put the armour on. She turns on her friends, joining the side of the Egg. 

Sam reveals that he had another plan, since he did not trust them either. He wants to blow up the Egg and hid a trap. TNT descends from the ceiling, but as it blows up the Egg, everything it touches turns to crying obsidian, and regenerates. They had made new precautions after Quackity tried to blow it up.

Bad wants to do ritual sacrifices with them, for the Egg. There is nothing they can do to stop them, as they have no weapons or armour. Eret is brought to the Egg first, surrounded by the others execution-style. 

Foolish stands up for them. They all tried to work together, but this is it for them. He tries to summon lightning, but nothing happens-- they are in the Egg’s domain now and no power is stronger than it’s. They start with Foolish instead. Puffy wants to help him, but she is only one person. They kill Foolish (Foolish loses a canon life).

Wanting to kill Niki next, Quackity appears from a hole in the wall, with a sword and full enchanted diamond armour. He tries to convince Bad to stop it, because he is not like this. They surround him with crossbows. Bad says that if he wanted to defeat them, Quackity should have brought an army with him. 

Quackity did. In fact, he did one better and brought his worst enemy. Technoblade logs on and appears behind Q with his army of dogs.  Technoblade did not want to work with Quackity, but he understands that this Egg has gone too far. Q had searched across the entire lands for the best mercenary-- Purpled appears. He is on their  side, as they had the best price.

A fight breaks out, ending with Ant(canon), Hannah and Ponk (non-canon) dead. and Bad escaping through a secret exit that leads to the labyrinth-like hallway. They leave Bad, Purpled not being able to get to him.

For now, Sam will build a prison around the Egg to contain it.

Bad escapes on a boat. He wonders what went wrong and reflects on everything that the Egg promised him. He was doing what he thought was right, but he wonders if he is a villain now.

Puffy is distraught after watching her son die and killing her best friends. She doesn’t even know who she is anymore. She can’t do this anymore, and logs off.

C!SAM - Redeemable Qualities Analysis (Dream SMP)

Hallo! I’m back with another brain rot post for ya’ll instead of doing my schoolwork :] 

Recently, I’ve been doing some thinking and theorizing with some friends on discord following Quackity’s huge lore stream (if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you watch it). I woke up this morning with a head full of many thoughts about C!Awesamdude and where his story could take us. Seeing as how there is going to be lots of change in the future with the server, there must be changes in these characters as well-- evil to good, good to evil, and the like. With these changes comes my thought: “can these characters be redeemed?” Here are my thoughts on how this applies to C!Sam.

Author’s note: I want to start this off by saying that all of the contents being discussed are fictional, and are from the Dream SMP universe. I do not support the actions of these characters, but merely have interest in analyzing them through a lens of psychology and for entertainment purposes. Content of this post will contain spoilers up to 3/25/21 of the DSMP lore. I will also talk about ATLA a little bit ;)

What makes a redeemable character? 

  Redeemable characters are some of the most pleasing and favored characters in modern media. Their stories are rich with emotion, and they can even evoke some form of catharsis within the most skeptic consumers. Redeemable characters are memorable and inspiring, and without one, a story can feel empty. Before we apply this character trope to the Dream SMP and C!Sam, we need to answer a basic question in order to fully understand the complexity of redeemable characters and how they are so universally significant. 

What is a redeemable character?

  Simply put, a redeeming character or characteristic counteracts or corrects something negative. From a storytelling standpoint, a redeemable character is someone who has roots in good qualities, turns bad, and has the ability to revert their wrong choices to become a better person. 

Examples of redeemed characters in popular media include: 

Zuko - Avatar the Last Airbender

Boromir - Lord of the Rings

Kylo Ren - Star Wars

Severus Snape - Harry Potter 

  Zuko, for example, starts his story off as the villain. He tirelessly hunts down the protagonist, and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal to please his father. However, as the show progresses, we learn that Zuko wasn’t always bad. He was only driven to his path of villainy because of his fear of failure, of his father (the firelord and true antagonist of the show), and of a greater punishment than what he had already received. With the help of his uncle, Zuko learned to push through and accept his past, while also making amends with his wrongs and coming to the realization of who the true enemy was; ultimately choosing peace and unity over destruction and fear.    Zuko’s story is so appealing because it was drawn out. It was raw, it was real, and it was a genuine telling of how damaged people can heal, change, and come to accept themselves. Because he went through the process of redemption, he was not only able to be loved by those around him, but also by his audience-- And I believe that this can be the same case with any redeemable character. 

So how does this relate to C!Sam? How could he possibly be redeemable if he is not evil?

  C!Sam has become increasingly interesting to me in the DSMP lore, and he has shown how complex his character is-- in contrast to many first impressions that people have of him. Based upon his actions from the past, and his willingness to remain neutral in times of conflict, we can conclude that he sustains both “neutral good” and “lawful neutral/good” qualities. This means that Sam is a reliable character, driven by his own personal values, and is devoted to helping others (when he sees fit). Evidence of these qualities emerge…

When he sided with Pogtopia during the Manberg War to maintain good relations with Tommy and Tubbo. 

When he saved Hannah from the Egg

Created Sam Nook to assist Tommy in building his hotel

Built Pandora’s Vault for Dream

Showed concern for Ranboo after one of his denied prison visits

  Sam’s moral code is deeply rooted with good intentions; he keeps an eye out for his friends, maintains his relationships, assists in builds/projects, and also serves as a “stable adult figure” for some of the younger members of the server. In contrast to his logical outward appearance, C!Sam lets his emotions drive his decision making-- which can lead to many severe consequences depending on how he acts. However, recently Sam’s actions indicate that he is experiencing a flip in morals. 

Below are incidents that have led to C!Sam’s recent change in moral code. 

Incident 1: Trapped with the Egg

  Many weeks ago, during the height of character involvement with the Egg lore, C!Sam was lured into a trap by BBH and Antfrost. He spent about a day trapped in close contact with the Egg, and after he was saved by Puffy and Tommy, he was clearly changed. It is likely that the Egg is behind these sudden changes in character motivation for Sam… similarly to how it corrupted BBH, Ant, and Punz. Whether this is the case with Sam is unclear. 

Incident 2: Tommy’s death

  C!Sam and C!Tommy’s relationship within the DSMP lore is one of my favorite things to talk about. After his victory over the disk war and finally landing his nemesis in prison, Tommy was left empty, without much to do. He decided to take upon a new project to incite a new era of peace, and was able to enlist the help of Sam with building his hotel. Throughout this process (and under the watchful eye of Sam Nook), Tommy and Sam were able to develop a bond with each other through their work, along with their interactions at the Prison. 

  Sam has made it clear that he intends to defend Tommy no matter what-- but after his untimely death at the hands of C!Dream, Sam was deeply wounded. He felt as if he failed his promise to keep Tommy safe, and he made it clear that the blame for the “security issue” and C!Tommy’s death should be placed fully on him. No matter how selfless and responsible this makes his character appear, this event will only serve as the basis for severe consequences in moral change in the future. 

Incident 3: Confrontation with Quackity

  Following the large emotional impact of Tommy’s death, C!Sam is very vulnerable, because he is still within the stages of grief. C!Quackity came to Sam for a partnership, to take advantage of Sam while he was low to gain the upper hand. It’s no question that Q’s character is a talented manipulator, we can see that clearly in his interaction with Sam. Q restates again and again that Sam failed, further cementing Sam’s existing guilt and desire for revenge for his failure. Sam gives in to the manipulation, and somewhat reluctantly allows Quackity to torture Dream to get information and to get payback for what he did to Tommy... which completely goes against what his responsibility of Warden entails. 

  As Warden, C!Sam is supposed to uphold the law and rules of visitation, but because of his leniency with Quackity (in breaking the rules) and because he is still emotionally raw, he no longer defends good from evil, but is now biased against it. C!Sam probably wants Dream dead, but as Warden, his opinion shouldn’t matter. Because Sam fully blames himself for failing Tommy, he's lost the "lawful good" in his character, meaning Warden Sam (as a set of morals) truly doesn't exist anymore.

Incident 4: Ponk’s mistake

  To recap a stream briefly, Ponk did a prank on Sam a couple days ago, and stole a few of the expired keycards to Pandora’s Vault. Rightfully, Sam was very angry, and not only took back the keycards, but also imprisoned Ponk. However, where this interaction should have ended, C!Sam only took it to the extreme. (TW!!!!) Out of anger and frustration, C!Sam tortured Ponk for his wrongdoing by setting him on fire, and amputating his arm (END TW!!!). 

  This only proves my point from Incident 3. Warden Sam is fading, only bits and pieces of his morally neutral character remain within him for basic tasks. His encounter with Quackity had a huge impact on his psyche, not only is he allowing the torture of the prison occupants, but he is doing it himself as well. C!Sam is now starting to believe that pain and torture are the only solutions for punishment, which is the complete opposite of what he believed before Dream was imprisoned. 

In short...

  C!Sam is losing his grip on moral and mental stability because of his emotional insecurity due to his psychological trauma. Because of this, I believe that it is entirely possible for Sam’s character to explore the route of evil and unlawful values-- which furthers the possibility for a redemption arc. Even currently, Sam is eligible for redemption as well.

  If C!Sam is willing to acknowledge his wrongs from today and improve himself upon them, he will likely become a more memorable, lovable, and even more human character than we’ve seen in the SMP before. 

SIDENOTE!

IRL Sam recently posted in his discord talking about his character. Here are a few key things to keep in mind as the story goes forward: 

“There is a LOT of things in the plan for me as a character and a very big change is coming about for me as the story moves along.”

I believe this change could be a villain arc, or a turn towards evil that incites the possibility for redemption. 

“My character is playing a role that I think is VITAL for the server and a role that I like to think was a good one for me to pick up and accept.”

What happened to Sam is really interesting and can tell us a lot about the egg! For anyone who didn’t catch the streams, here’s a short recap of the last like 2 days:

BadBoyHalo and Antfrost held a meeting with Puffy and Sam. Sam was and always has been extremely anti-egg. Despite numerous attempts, it’s clear to Bad that convincing him to like the egg isn’t gonna work.

Bad pretends to change his mind and offers a hug to Sam to patch up their friendship, luring him onto a block that drops into an obsidian cage directly above the egg without a means of escape.

Sam shoots at Bad and Ant briefly and demands to be set free before saying his head hurts, going silent, and logging out.

Puffy goes down to see if she could get him out and yells at the other two before they threaten and try to kill her. She escapes to the holy land and they seem averse to going on it (unclear why as it was fine before)

Today, Puffy decides she’ll free Sam while the others aren’t on. Tommy tags along after he notices “Sam Nook” has gone missing and didn’t work on the hotel

Meanwhile, Sam logs on and starts typing things like “get me out, please, help me” before joining the voice chat. His voice is very quiet and he seems very dazed.

Puffy and Tommy let him out and have him put on a hazmat suit; he also doesn’t look any different (his crown has a red jewel but it’s always been like that). Sam says the Egg made him give it his items and they disappeared. His skin also started coming off (gross) and he ate it (gross) because he was starving to death.

He then started repeatedly asking to go home in a very sad voice (man sounded like a kicked puppy). They briefly make a pit stop at Church Prime and it doesn’t have any effect. After more asking, they start bringing him home

He’s still very dazed, accidentally walking into lava, walking awkwardly, almost drowning, calling things by the wrong names, etc. He’s happy when they’re finally home

In his house they find an old gift from Hannah (A rose) which Sam is happy to take. They find a seedling of the blood vines in Sam’s house; it hasn’t grown at all yet

Puffy and Tommy are wary of it but Sam says it’s fine and it can stay. He now thinks the egg is okay, the complete opposite of his views for the last weeks which completely freaks the other two out

He goes into his basement to see Fran and tunnels in the wall next to her before closing it up. Tommy gives him some of his rotten flesh back (eww) and they leave him. Sam ends stream (Sam Nook is back at the construction site but appears to be a different being)

This teaches us a few things. The first is just a reaffirmation that the Egg can overcome almost anyone’s resistance. Sam from the very beginning has completely hated the egg. He’s been trying to get it destroyed for as long as it’s been around, alarmed by the bloodvines takeover. He only spent one night by it and it not only convinced him to give up all of his items but made him think it wasn’t a problem. Sam was probably the biggest threat to its continued growth and now he’ll stay out of its way.

The second implication is a lot more worrying. Sam said when he was locked in the egg he ran out of food, it started making him drop his items on the ground, they started disappearing, then his skin started falling off, and then he started eating it. First off, kinda fucked up lmao. Now, we already know the egg likes rotten flesh, Ant has been seen offering it to the egg on numerous occasions, but we also know it can consume people. Bad and Ant were planning on letting it consume Tommy.

With what Sam went through, it seems like the Egg might have been eating away at him. Him running out of food over the 14 hours of being trapped isn’t too suspicious, but the fact that his SKIN started FALLING OFF???? Does that seem like a normal thing to you? I hope not. And the entire time after he was let out, Sam was confused and lethargic. He wasn’t running and could barely swim. It seems like whatever the egg did drained him of his energy physically and mentally.

I think the Egg’s goal was mainly keeping Sam out of the way much like Bad described it. By either converting him to a follower or making him incapable of stopping its progression,it’s goal is accomplished. It’s eliminated it’s biggest threat.

Any thoughts? I just love the whole egg arc it’s so fun :)

Timing the streams

Little rules to make it easier for me to timestamp

^_^ after a quote - a joke conversation.

:| after a quote - a serious/lore important conversation.

|_| - banter on top of something plot relevant/Something plot relevant in banter form.

Usually if I write *someone* logs on, that means that there's either a little interaction or something that happens when they log in. If something isn't that important, or doesn't relate to any of the SMP lore/drama, I'll usually just leave it out.

A Guide on How to Locate Old VODs!

Hello, everyone! 

As you all know, Twitch has a cap on VOD availability where, after two months, a VOD on a channel will be deleted. 

Given that Dream SMP has lasted for longer than two months, with the bulk of the plot now missing, this means that finding old footage can be somewhat of a challenge if you aren’t yet familiar with how to do so!

I get a lot of asks asking me where certain old VODs are, and while I don’t mind these asks at all, I also figured it would be helpful to make a guide post on my methods for locating them so that people can attempt to locate things for themselves too!

There are plenty of ways to go about it, but this is just what I do.

Without further ado, here’s a step-by-step process.

Before you go searching for anything, there’s some information that you’ll need to decide on.

What are you looking for?

This one’s a bit obvious, but you need to figure out what exactly you’ll be seeking out. For this guide, I’ll be using the first Dreamon Hunters VOD as an example, as that’s one that people have asked for a lot in the past.

When did it happen?

As a general question, you’ll want to know the basic context of around what time this event took place. We’ll get into specifics later, but it helps to have context. Think: what else was happening at the time?

Well, for Dreamon Hunters, we know that Fundy was wearing his Dreamon Hunters outfit at the Manberg Festival, October 16. Therefore, that event took place not too long before then.

From whose POV?

You’ll need to know which streamers to search under. The first Dreamon Hunters stream was streamed by Fundy and Tubbo. 

Tubbo’s official VODs channel does not include the first Dreamon Hunters VOD, and the oldest VOD on Archive is Festival preparation on October 13. Unfortunately, this means that Tubbo’s POV is lost, so we will be seeking out Fundy’s.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, onto the next steps.

STEP ONE: Figure out the exact date.

There are a few ways to achieve this. If you’re lucky, you’ll know the date already -- November 16th, January 6th, other big ones like that. Sometimes you can look at recap posts if they exist for that day. 

But the most reliable one I’ve found, especially for Season One, is actually to use Twitter’s advanced search.

(Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking. But it genuinely works pretty well)

Type in keywords that you think would end up in livetweets of the stream. If something specific was trending that day because of the event, that helps as well. For this example, we’ll use “DreamXD,” as that was trending.

Scroll down to the bottom and select a date range. This is where knowing the general time that the event happened helps. We’ll do October 1 - October 16.

There! We’ve found the livetweets! How nostalgic. 

Figure out the earliest date. 

For our example, it appears to be October 7. Note that VOD dates might be a day later due to different timezones.

STEP TWO [Optional]: Figure out the stream title.

You don’t necessarily need this step, but it can often be helpful when scrolling through a large selection of VODs, and since sometimes the VOD dates can be a day off, having the title will give you the most accuracy.

Go to Twitchtracker.com/ [insert streamer name] /streams and click on the date you just found.

From here, we can see that Fundy’s stream on October 7 was titled “THE NEW MANBERG.”

STEP THREE: Find the VOD on a VODs channel or on Archive.

I will be linking a bunch of unofficial VODs channels that I’d recommend at the end. Here we will be using Fundy Stream Archive.

And there we go! We have successfully located the first Dreamon Hunters VOD!

Now, that was an easy example. Things can get a bit more difficult than that.

For our next example: what if you wanted to find the original Captain Puffy “duckling Dream” VOD? 

When did it happen?

If you remember, this stream happened when Captain Puffy hadn’t yet chosen her alliances between Dream SMP and L’manburg. Therefore, it would have been November or early December, soon after she joined the server.

Using the Twitter search method, we’ll search for “duckling Dream” in the date range November 16 - December 20.

The earliest date appears to be November 29.

Using Twitchtracker, we know that Captain Puffy’s stream on November 29 was titled “Nightime vibing on the Dream SMP!”

Next, since Captain Puffy’s VODs from this early on haven’t been archived to a channel on YouTube, we’ll visit Archive.org instead. Search up “Captain Puffy” 

Be sure to sort by date. This will display the date below, but I’d still recommend you have the stream title on hand as well.

What can’t you locate?

Unfortunately, there is content that can’t be found this way.

Tubbo’s August and September VODs, Eret and Jack Manifold’s August VODs, a couple Tommy streams, HBomb’s Doomsday stream, etc., are all missing.

Notably, every so often Sapnap’s Storytime Stream VOD will be rediscovered and passed around as a Google Drive link or uploaded to YouTube before inevitably being taken down again. Keep your eyes peeled and you might see it pop up again.
