The more I play Anthem, the more blown away I am by what BioWare accomplished.

(It’s a TERRIBLE live service game, too repetitive, the loot system was a struggle…etc. etc.)

But having played the other games they developed on Frostbite, I cannot believe how interactive the environment is, how smooth the mechanics are…

I hope they keep as much base code as possible for Dreadwolf. I’m so excited to see what they’ve made on the bones of this game that was abandoned far too soon.

One with which your character shares a special bond? Loyal to a fault, remarkably clever, capable of incredible feats of bravery? Requires unending maintenance, refuses to perform on command, would sell your character to satan for a corn chip given half a chance? A trusting relationship based on mutual respect, or something more passive-aggressive and hostile? Write about your character's trusty steed--or someone else's.

Feel free to continue submitting stories for any prompt. A masterpiece missed the deadline? Don’t let it gather electronic dust. Submit it anyway and Short Fiction Weekly Challenge will publish it.

This week’s featured previous prompts are:

Haunted: Has your character ever encountered something otherworldly? Something they know they saw but can’t explain in a logical way? Or maybe they can--but the explanation rings hollow? What did they experience and what was it like? Does anyone believe them? Do they believe it? In our world things such as ghosts or hauntings are generally dismissed, but for your character, they might be accepted as valid explanations even if not technically “real.” Or they might be frighteningly, terrifyingly real.

Breaking Point: At some point, your character will have hit their breaking point. The last straw, crossed the line, they’ve had it with something, someone, or some situation, and aren’t going to put up with it anymore. Something has to change--so what is it? Mundane: the last straw with a job they hate. Relatable: their SO doing that thing (you know, that one thing). A larger issue that requires recruiting others who’ve also hit their breaking point, or a tiny one like the takeout place getting their food wrong for the last time. Write about your character reaching their breaking point and what they change in response.

Y'know, it's a damn shame the Anthem fandom pretty much failed to even start due to how much lost potential that game had

Because there's a story idea bouncing around my head about a bunch of Codan humans ending up on Pandora via Anthem fuckery, and ending up discovering that Eywa is extremely wary of everyone and everything from Coda, especially because Ember and Chimeric compound and metal are all Anthem products and are thus extremely unstable. How Eywa knows this is because Pandora was also a Shaper creation, except this time they actually finished the place.

Of course due to this the Codans have to fight an uphill battle of diplomacy with the Na'vi due to their link with Eywa.

As for the RDA, the Codans, once they realize what Pandora is, would almost-instantly try to shut down the mining operations as well due to the simple fact that Shaper world = Shaper relics, and god help you if you dig one up and switch one on. As for the Tulkun, Ciphers are sensitive to Eywa for Anthem-relared reasons, and would very quickly learn to leave well enough alone.

Of course one of the scenes that sticks in my head is of a Lancer on the run from either the humans or the Na'vi and getting cornered at a cliff, and upon being asked to surrender, promptly dives straight off the edge because they're the one wearing the Iron Man suit

There's also RDA forces trying to hack/EMP/otherwise disable Codan technology and failing miserably because all Codan tech is analog and Codans have absolutely no clue what a microchip is

Also, I'd imagine that the RDA would be utterly flabbergasted at the fact that all their shit is made by hand too
