so ok gos2 spoilers below but I wanna talk about power imbalances

so a kinda running theme through this season is power imbalances and those with less power being justified in perhaps “immoral” things bc what the fuck else are they supposed to do! graverobbing to survive, cursing god for killing your kids, etc. these things are NOT in gods design but in the complexity of human interactions that make sense. and the rich toy with these people bc they can. five pounds for a body and wagering on a man’s spirit.

Bottom line: the rich and powerful get to make decisions that the poor and powerless never even get to dream of

We know aziraphale is kinda always on the side of “morality” (which more often than not aligns with bootstrap mentality and capitalist rhetoric whoopsie) and crowley is on the side of helping people survive and live a decent life, even if it’s not “moral” or what the ineffable plan details

so the fact that GABRIEL and BEELZEBUB, BOTH high ranking members of their respective afterlives, get to have a happy ending with no ifs ands or buts about it is so disheartening. because Crowley and aziraphale (mainly Crowley) have had to to scratch and claw and fight to even be able to be acquaintances. They weren’t allowed a happy ending. They still aren’t. They were low rungs on the totem pole. They don’t get the luxury of fucking off and being happy.

(also a large part of why they can’t fuck off and be happy is because aziraphale is still clawing onto the hope that heaven is good and he hasn’t given his immortal life to something bad. He forces himself to see in black and white to reconcile with the fact that he might’ve been wrong. he thinks he can “fix” heaven when the whole institution is broken. He’s still caught up in that capitalist dream. God save him)
