Teddy Lupin Appreciation Reclist

I hope everyone’s already read my gorgeous gift Wield Me by @tackytigerfic because that fic finally inspired me to finish and post this rec list! I’ve been a big Teddy fan since his name came up in the books; thanks to @lqtraintracks I was lucky to get introduced to and fall in love with Harry/Teddy many years ago. Sometimes it’s hard to read them together with other ships because just like Peter Parker, Teddy holds a very special place in my heart and I just want him to be happy and loved 🥹 so to celebrate my long-standing love for this character - which was boosted a hundred times by Tacky’s gift, I thought I’d share my favorite Teddys - both in romantic and platonic relationships - in fic. btw if anyone wants to start a Teddy centric fest let me know!

for the ask ship game: drastoria, jeddy and romione

romione: i feel like i shouldnt even talk and let the books do the talking for me. the slowburn was ferocious. the relationship building ate every other hp couple up. with each installation the verse puts out that includes them in it they’re even more in love. it makes me want to rip my hair out that so much romione content is sidelined for other ships and only exist as a side pairing to other ships. ron is so clearly the only one who makes sense for hermione and vice versa hermione to ron. i have never seen a good argument from a romione anti about why they shouldn’t be together or how they would not work out realistically. i can chalk every argument up to classism, a critique of ron’s portrayal in the movies, or a misunderstanding of character flaws that are exacerbated by PUBERTY and the general emotional instability of an average teenager. you look me in the eye and tell me you have never tweaked out when you were teenager. you look me in the eye and tell me that having magic wouldnt make that worse. i’ve actually already made an essay-long post about romione so lets not even get me started on it LOL

drastoria: i’ve already screamed about my reasons here.

jeddy: jeddy is hard because teddy and james sirius are mostly fanon so it’s difficult to ascertain whether they would make sense or not based on personality. we basically know nothing about teddy’s personality and get a handful of lines from james in the cursed child. they seem both to have a rebellious side— james opting to disobey his parents to have a good laugh and the rita skeeter article written about teddy at the quidditch world cup final (which could have been complete slander knowing skeeter) but from what little we do know— teddy is very close with the potter family (lily basically calls him family), presumably since he was born or at least very young since they consider each other family. teddy is also six years older than james. going off that alone, if teddy was around when james was very young, or even when he was born, then no, jeddy doesn’t make sense. it would be a bit creepy, no? fanonly, i’m 50/50– i’ve read some pretty shit jeddy fics but it comes with the territory of liking scorbus so i have to suck it up 😭 but yeah, its a no from me.

It’s *checks watch* Wednesday somewhere, so time to make good on the tag I got from the lovely @corvuscrowned last week! Here’s the beginning of the Jeddy fic I’m writing for the lovely @thebooktopus:

Teddy walks into the room, takes one look at the patient, and says “Really, Jamie?"

James grins up at them, even with his knee iced and elevated above the standard-issue St. Mungo's sheets. Teddy sees a number anti-inflammatory spells circling. James seems unconcerned with it all. "Good to see you, Tedster. It's been ages."

Teddy valiantly resists chucking their quill in James's direction. "That's Healer Lupin to you."

“Almost Healer Lupin," James says. "Very Nearly Healer Lupin."

Teddy turns to the woman standing next to James's bed. "You really shouldn't let me onto this case, Healer Carmichael."

It's good that Healer Carmichael is mostly just amused. She tends to be fairly lax with things, as long as patients stay safe and the healers-in-training keep learning. "Mr. Potter specifically requested you," she tells them.

"Yes, well," Teddy looks at James with no shortage of exasperation. "He does like to cause trouble like that, especially when he’s not even meant to be in London.”

Right?!?! And like I said, Teddy has every right to date Victoire for a while, but the thing is they break up because Vic cheats on him with at LEAST three people simultaneously. Because that is how I cope. Then he starts dating James and Jamie protects him and gives him all the love he deserves and more, and is hella protective of him and doesn’t like Vic being alone with him. So says the king *bangs gavel*

Recently I learned that James Sirius/Teddy is a surprisingly popular ship.

I don’t want to start any fights, but that’s just weird to me. The epilogue does such a good job of establishing Teddy as the Potter kids’ beloved older brother that this feels more incestuous than pairing James with one of his actual cousins.

Some Michael Afton Headcanons...

In my headcanons, Michael Afton is…

• [Starting with a potentially-contentious one…] William’s youngest child, and yes, that means he’s the FNAF4 Crying Child. Will managed to revive him as an android of sorts, much to the horror of the older brother, especially.

• Prone to asking anything that crosses his mind. As a kid, this was something that really endeared him to his father, but to his brother it was just one more reason to poke fun. Lizzy, on the other hand, loved having a younger sibling, no matter what he did –it’s not like Mikey stole her toys, after all.

• Definitely a plushies kid. Tended to sleep on his toys, too. His favourite Fazbear character was Fredbear, and was the one to suggest an aborted idea for a ‘younger generation’ set. Plushtrap was actually supposed to be part of that bunch, as were a trio of bears named Teddy, Jeddy, and Penelope (my version of non-Nightmare Freddles)…

• Generally friendly and even a bit happy-go-lucky. Basically does his best to be a nice person… but is also a bit of a little shit when he got older. Very much an early practitioner of ‘yolo’…

• Addicted to caffeine from a young age. Put down the coffee pot, Mike, you’re a preteen robot.

• The sort to try playing dumb more often than he actively shows that he’s not that much of an idiot, thank you… then he goes and does something stupid, like eat or drink something he shouldn’t. Cast iron stomach, this one.

• Almost identical to his father, physically, and actually a lot like him in other ways, too…

• A dog person. Muchly. Regularly begged for a puppy, to the point that his brother started to keep a list of the various efforts.

• Emotionally torn regarding his father’s bloody legacy, as things come to light. That’s still his father, who he has definite fond memories of…

• Suffering from memory issues. Almost anything before the Bite is either completely lost or little more than a blur, with continuing issues that span until he’s a teenager.

• Completely unsure about the topic of relationships… even pre-scooping. Bluntly, he doesn’t quite know how to tell when he ‘like-likes’ someone. Despite that, he’s also secretly a romantic.

• Fond of cooking breakfast foods, but anything else –other than popcorn– can just see itself out of the kitchen. He is the king of waffles and pancakes.

• Very anti-egg. Especially post-scooping, there were no more eggs, except as required ingredients.

• A gamer. Honestly, he likes most forms of pop-culture.

• Still not that fond of Foxy, thanks to his brother’s old pranks. May or may not be the originator of the palette-swap known as Lolbit…

• Fond of fiction that isn’t quite ‘the norm’ for its genre… like a soap opera that features supernatural elements.

• Somehow under the impression that the purpose of a wordsearch is to find the letters separately, not sequentially. It’s possible this is a long-standing joke being played on his brother, but he’s not telling.

• Skilled mechanic, thanks in no small part to having spent quite a large amount of his childhood interactions with his father grilling him for how the animatronics even worked.

• Living with his brother, post-scooping, in their childhood home. Took to covering himself with more clothes than ‘normal’ and bandages to hide his ‘purple-ness’, as well as large dark sunglasses. He did not like having to become either house-bound or basically-nocturnal to keep out of trouble…

• Definitely Done With This Shit… Although answers would be nice before he throws in the towel.

• Sometimes so bored that he will read a dictionary like it’s a Choose Your Own Adventure. How he actually manages to do this is a mystery, but it’s likely related to sleep-deprivation and caffeine highs.

• Still afraid of Nightmare Fredbear… Those nightmares are among the few things he remembers clearly from before the Bite. Despite this, he still has his old Fredbear plushie… and the others, too –even saved the Plushtrap his brother had from going into the garbage.

• A collector of random things, as long as they’re small. Coins, stones that look interesting, shells, etcetera…
