foaming at the mouth rolling in the ashes putting on sackcloth because marvel dared to touch the absolute force of nature that is god of stories Loki and they completely misrepresented what he stands for and now when I search that glorious tag I have to look into hundreds of posts featuring the wretched hollow shell of the MCU Loki with his wretched dorky helmet and his "Oh I was once a narcissist who used to want a throne but now I love people and I don't like thrones at all, what an arc" even though he never ever wanted a throne and he always loved people what is going on
I think what really gets to me is that this god of stories role is presented as a shackle to MCU Loki
He is trapped now, he is alone, he's tied down by the narrative. Being a storyteller keeps him isolated and sad.
While in the comics, becoming the god of stories means breaking free, finding hope, being an icon of trying new things and traveling the universe. Being a storyteller allows Loki to become his true self and reconcile with himself and the people he loves. It's a visceral moment of coming home.
Loki in the comics addresses that "maybe who we are is really just a trap, one we'd be free of if we didn't cling so damn tightly to the bars"
Becoming a neutral storyteller breaks these bars and gets the Schrodinger's cat out of the box
But it's the opposite in the show
I don't think? They're trying to be cruel to the comics? But why are they slapping my favorite comic character's title onto this man even though what they are is completely different? And their arcs are completely different? And why then are show fans posting things such as:
Guuuys didn't you know this is from the comics? Loki is like the comics now :D He's finally completed a full arc and become the god of stories like in Agent of Asgard :DD
Like no, Janet, I'm sorry, but he's just not. MCU Loki has never been close to comic Loki, and to rip titles out of the comics and stuff them into the show and bait comic fans by saying "Hey guys you know what this is and you liked it there, so like it here" but it's not anything like that
That's not how this works
Don't get me started on Verity Willis either

I just want to reflect how much the Loki show ruined Loki as a character for me and how much disheartened I was with it.
I had always wanted a spinoff on him, which explored him more. And the Loki show did anything but that.
Do you guys remember how Loki was in Infinity War for like 5 minutes, yet Tom Hiddleston was at almost every media interaction the cast had? The same thing happened in the show as well. They used him to market the show, then sidelined him in his own show. I think that was unacceptable, because they used Loki as a bait to promote a character that I held no emotions for.
Sylvie.
The argument that one does not like Sylvie because they “hate a strong female character/a character with complex arcs” is so pathetic. I don’t think I would’ve liked Sylvie even if she had the most elaborate arc in the MCU (which she doesn’t) because it just wasn’t meant to be about her.
I wanted to see Loki’s story, his journey, and if you take this moment to interject with the statement that “she’s Loki too, just different”, then I say that I wanted to see our Loki, the one who was broken when he found out that he was the monster parents told their children about at night, the one who had plethora of iconic dialogues while fighting the avengers, who was killed only for us to realize that he wasn’t.
Everytime I said that we needed a Loki spinoff before it was announced was not because I wanted new characters, it was because I wanted to see more of the character that was already there, very much beloved by the fans. I wanted them to explore his character in a deeper sense and maybe dip a little into mythology as well.
I think Loki was one of those characters that neither needed a love interest nor was ready for one. I don’t ship him with either Sylvie or Mobius, because it feels like neither of them genuinely like Loki for who he is.
Loki had far more compelling things they could have explored like his jotun heritage, his trauma from the time with Thanos and his magic that is the only memory he has of Frigga instead of his love life.
The whole show felt like it was written by someone who wasn’t the least bit interested in Loki and barely looked into him before creating his female counterpart.
It feels like a disrespect for the fans who were connected to Loki on an emotional level.
Why am I saying this now, after like 2 years since the show came out?
I don’t know, after hearing the news about season 2 releasing in October, I just feel so upset. Tired. I hate this show much because it made Loki so irrelevant to me. A sidepiece in his own show. He went around in ugly costumes and all the regal vibes I had from him just disappeared.
I still remember a time when Loki was on the top of my favorite characters, and I loved him so much. I still do, but I’m not sure if I’ll watch the 2nd season and my 13 y/o self would hate me for this.
I’ve gotten detached from his character and I hate myself for it because Loki was someone whom I adored more than anything else in the fandom world.
Loki is that one character who is loved by the fanon but absolutely despised by the canon.

i can't be the only one who's noticed just how fucked up the concept of loki joining the tva is, right? i personally haven't seen anyone talk about this but it's one of the main things that makes me so uncomfortable about the show.
like, let me describe this without using any of the language that the series does;
a secret police dedicated to killing entire groups of people "for the greater good," one day picks up a man from one of these groups and tells him that if he doesn't help them catch the person who is trying to take them down, they will straight up kill him.
he is then given a coat to wear, branded with the secret police's logo, as well as clarification in huge red letters that he is NOT one of the secret police— he is part of the group the secret police kills.
this secret police is marketed as morally gray, and the company who makes the show releases merch for you to dress up as the secret police (or as the group that they kill) for fun because they want you to think this is cute and aesthetic.
and also the secret police uses gas chambers.
oh and also also, people draw cutesy ship art of this man and the "good cop" cuddling, while the man is clearly labeled and wearing a bland jumpsuit that the secret police forces him to wear.

Back on me ranting about how much I hate Sylki bc I’m bitter, I had one thought that @bifrost-glitter touched on and I want to explore in depth-
What if, for the Loki and Sylvie pairing, we switched the genders?
What if it was a female protagonist who ran into a badass male warrior with a Tragic (tm) past?
imagine the woman falling head over heels for a badass male warrior she knew for 12 hours and dedicating herself to him and gushing over him…defending his every action.
Imagine the man says harsh things. Doesn’t really listen to her. Doesn’t acknowledge when she is kind to him. And the woman gushing about how tragic he is and how she will fight for and do anything for him. And when they do fight, she is shown as incompetent and he is so much stronger and better and she is just there to go “wow!”
And when they are reunited, he shows no remorse and won’t listen to her…nly for him to manipulate her feelings, make fun of her, call her names, belittle her, be stronger than her. Kiss her briefly to distract her all while she keeps begging him and acting all she wants is his happiness…and he ultimately betrays her for his own gain. And she still holds no anger and easily forgives him and searches the world for him?
If that was the case, there would be whole articles in newspapers about it being toxic and a bad example for young people, especially young girls, to watch to expect for a romantic relationship. The fandom and watchers would be all “omg! Poor little meow meow! Dump his ass! You deserve better than him, queen! He doesn’t deserve you! He is such trash!! I want to snuggle her in a blankie and tell her everything will be okay!”
But…*sigh* because it’s a woman abusing a man, it’s okay. It’s a “girlboss and malewife” dynamic and it’s romantic and Empowering (tm). (Also, watch The Gilded Age for The Russell’s for an example of a Girlboss and Malewife romantic relationship that is both healthy and well written while still engaging). Because women are totally not capable of being abusive or doing anything bad, right?
*sigh*

Tom Hiddleston always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to ‘Loki.’
- His show didn’t have showrunners that actually knew about or cared about his character
- The original script he was given was blacklisted in 2018
- Michael Waldron the show ‘creator’ is a ‘phile’ and a sicko overall.
- Kate Herron said that they ‘made things up as they went along.’
- They wanted to ‘knock Tom down a notch’ in order to let Sylvie shine. I recall Taika saying a similar thing in relation to Ragnarok and even Feige removed him from Age of Ultron due to his ‘insane acting skills.’ 🙄
- Apparently Chris Hemsworth is ‘sick of Loki’ and said that he’s like a “clingy ex-girlfriend who can’t take the hint that it’s done, it’s over.”
- Taika Waititi said that Loki outshined Thor before so he wanted to stop that from happening.
- Taika wanted to put Loki in a porta potty:
Tumblr media
- Taika wanted Tom to get pregnant with a horse implying bestial r*pe!!
Tumblr media
- Most of his scenes from the movies were deleted
- Michael Waldron and Kate Herron said that they wanted to ‘knock Tom down a few pegs’ in order to give Sylvie a chance to shine
- He had to film the show during COVID which stuffed a lot of things
- He couldn’t promote the second season due to the SAG AFTRA strikes.
- He’s never featured in the Marvel opening title sequence
- He is still one of the ‘lowest paid Marvel actors.’
- He goes out of his way to promote Infinity War even though he’s only in it for 2 minutes!
- His series didn’t get the ‘spotlight treatment’ or have and show runners who KNEW anything about Marvel or Loki! Tom spent FOUR days showing them PowerPoint presentations showing them all about aloki and the MCU at the infamous ‘Loki Lectures’ but “SCREW YOU TOM AND YOUR CHARACTER! WE CARE MORE ABOUT KANG AND THE TVA, YOUR ‘CHARACTER’ IS JUST A PLACE HOLDER NOW!”
- They made him look older and less appealing in the show than he does irl. Look at him in some shots in the show then see him behind the scenes! The makeup, lighting and angles were unflattering at times! They even managed to remove that sparkle in his eye in the show but it was there behind the scenes!
- The director of S1, Kate Herron said that it was wanted Sophia/Sylvie to ‘knock Tom Hiddleston down a notch.’
Tumblr media
The director of S2, Aaron Moorhead said ‘Why don’t you just go away?’
Tumblr media
What we could have had… 😪 Poor guy. I wonder how he feels being bullied, exploited and sidelined all the time. 😢💔

Why Lokius Should Have Been Canon
Tumblr media
This is a sort of combo of two metas that didn't quite get point my across. Some parts will be copied directly, but there's a lot of original content. I will discuss the ship between Loki and Mobius, their place in the show, and the MCU at large. My focus for this meta won't be parallels or motifs, because these things border on well-written friendships. But there will be some of that.
Romance in the MCU
There are a lot of straight couples in the MCU. (Almost) Every main hero is in some heterosexual relationship, Loki included.
Tumblr media
(That's not all, not remotely).
But in the LGBTQ+ department... uh.. I think it was mentioned that Valkyrie had a girlfriend... uh... America Chavez had a pride pin... and Loki:
Tumblr media
One line. Queer experiences are never a focal point of a show/movie the same way heterosexual experiences are. And that needs to change.
Romance In the Show
Wrong, toxic, or unsuccessfu romantic love is a recurring theme in the show.
Sylki
Sylki was an icky relationship right off the bat. They are the same person. I can't find the post at the moment, but someone has pointed out in their post that them being the same person is referenced in every episode in season 1 (edit: here it is), which is when the romance took place. This made their romance uncomfortable for many viewers.
(Some consider Sylki a toxic relationship, but for this post, the topic is too large to handle with the nuance I'd like to handle it with).
When he's drunk, Loki compares love to a dagger, stating that it hurts you, but when you try to find strength in it, it's not real.
youtube
Which is exactly what happens. Sylvie pushes Loki into a portal and they never get back together.
The Love Triangle
In 02×03, Ravonna Renslayer is infatuated with Victor Timely, but he leaves her behind and betrays her when Miss Minutes told him to. One episode later, we discover that they were indeed an item, and established the TVA together. He Who Remains deleted her memories and they never rekindle their love.
Later in the episode, is the best example of "wrong" romance in the show. Miss Minutes, the AI clock, confesses her love to Viktor Timely. He, obviously, freaks out and shuts her off. Nothing ever comes of this.
Brad and Dox
This one is small, but a big indication to romance being a theme. In 02×01, we're shown this:
Tumblr media
The gap in the age of the actors is uncomfortable, and a character in universe has this reaction to it. It is never mentioned again.
So what does all of this leave us with? Not much. None of this properly ties to the finale, or anything really. If I were to write the show I would cut a lot of this out, since it serves no purpose. But it does make you keep romance and its shortcomings in mind. The writers want it to be there, in the back of your head.
Loki and Mobius
Finally! I got to talk about them. The two people in question. First things first, who are they, together? They became really supportive, close friends.
Tumblr media
Fans even drew parallels to Chaos & Order, which is a very important theme in Loki. But I'm not here to unpack them. These things don't necessarily make them in love. So what does make them in love? I'll present you my evidence, and you ask yourself,
Would it be valid to suggest romantic implications if a man and a women are:
1) Extremely thouchy with each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) Riding on a tandem bike together.
Tumblr media
3) Willing to suffer a fate worst than death for another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4) Falling on each other after that^
Tumblr media
5) Literally the Interrupted Declaration of Love trope. (Ex)
Tumblr media
6) Being framed in a circle.
Tumblr media
7) Waiting & giving permission to attack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8) Fixing themselvs before seeing the other.
Tumblr media
Of course yes. Maybe you think some of these are a strech, but ultimately, people would point out romantic connotations across the board. And I'm here, pointing them out right now. Some scenes between Loki and Mobius have romantic implications.
Conclusion
Loki is a queer protagonist in the MCU, a universe that lacks representation of queer experiences. His show constantlty reminded us of romance, sometimes for seemigly no reason. In the second season, they wrote him and his best friend with romantic implications. And then, nothing. It should not have been nothing. Lokius should have been canon.

Disney is not a place where Dreams come true, anymore. It's a place where nightmares come true. This about the Loki Series, and how they completely ruined his character. I will never ever watch another disney thing again, because I can never forgive them, yes I know it's just mcu, but now even when I watch something Disney realted it just makes me think about how much they wronged Loki and Loki fans like me.

being a loki fangirl right now sucks so bad honestly :( it sucks when others don’t understand why watching your favorite character get mischaracterized (mischaracterization that is also constantly getting praised by others) is so aggravating… the fact that we could have probably gotten further content of our favorite character that would’ve actually been good, but we didn’t because of careless writers/directors.

Has anyone read the Loki wiki page recently? I was always under the impression that wiki pages were supposed to remain unbiased. Loki did some fucked up shit, obviously, but I don't know if this page accurately displays all of his motivations and feelings regarding why he did what he did in Thor 1. It implies (or really states) that he basically always hated Thor and Odin, and he is a sociopath that never loved his family (besides a small degree). Additionally, that he always felt like he was owed everything and his arrogance is crazy. The arrogance part was a later addition to make him more evil in Avengers, just saying. No clue when this was added, but it feels very post-Ragnarok. Again, not a great person, but this seems very much "Loki hated everyone always and anytime he was happy he was scheming."

That whole ending with Loki holding all of the timelines together for eternity... I read another post where someone said that ending didn't feel right because Loki didn't cause any of this shit, he shouldn't be the one who has to sacrifice himself to solve these problems that aren't even his fault.
And yeah honestly they should've had He Who Remains be forced to hold these timelines together as punishment or something or maybe have Mobius or any one of the TVA workers do this as a way to make up for all the horrible shit they did.
But nope we get this ending that's supposed to be "tragic" and serve as a form of "redemption" but doesn't because the writers have made it very clear that they have no understanding of Loki's character or how to write a decent story in general.
Edit: I see y'all mentioning Sylvie and I think I must've purged my memory of her when writing this post. Hell yeah she should be the one fixing this shit considering it was her recklessness that started it in the first place. But no I guess Loki lOvEs her now even though she's been nothing but an asshole for this entire fucking show.

Absolutely love that in Loki season 2 they blatantly make fun of Norse culture and say that the wooden Norse Odin, Baldr and Thor statue carvings are "dramatizations" and "highly insulting" and "glorified dioramas"
Real nice Disney real fucking nice/s /neg
