Michael Guerin Deserves Better Than This Shit

I love both Michael and Alex, and I especially love Malex. I have my crack ships pairing them with other people, but there's no other ship I want more in canon than Malex. That being said, I get really annoyed with Alex stans (I use the word stans instead of fans because they are usually crazy fans who only love Alex and low key seem to hate Michael) who act like Michael is some monster for having dated Maria and like Alex should have been furious with him. Now, I hate Miluca as a ship and Maria DeLuca as a character, so it's not about liking the ship as one of my crack pairings. No, it's all about the fact that for ten years, Alex walked away from Michael. For ten years, Alex broke Michael's heart (I know he had his reasons for his actions and I understand them, but this is still what happened). And for a matter of weeks, Michael dates someone else (because he was not actually with Maria in canon for more than a few weeks and it was, as she said, on a non-exclusive trial basis), and suddenly he's some big bad monster who hurt Alex beyond repair? Sorry, but no. He doesn't deserve to be hated for that. Not when you don't dislike Alex for leaving him over and over again for a decade. You know who Alex should be angry at, though? Maria. He has no right to be angry with Michael for not believing he would stay this time and for trying to move on with someone else (not saying he can't feel hurt, but he doesn't have a right to be angry with Michael the way some stans wanted him to be). But he can be angry with Maria for getting together with Michael after finding out about him being in love with him when she claims to be Alex's best friend. Alex can be angry with Maria all he wants because she was a crappy friend, but being angry with Michael for dating someone else, no matter who that person was, would only make him look like an ass, which is probably why he had no anger toward Michael on the show. The people who think he should be angry with Michael look like hypocrites, especially since many of them happily also ship Alex with Forrest or Kyle or sometimes even Max, Michael's brother. So, what? Only Alex is allowed to be happy with someone else when the love of his life leaves him? Michael just has to suffer? This post is not supposed to be anti Alex. I love him and don't actually think he did anything wrong in canon. What I'm calling out is the behavior of his stans, which is really not cool. Michael doesn't deserve that bullshit, and I think if Alex was a real person, he'd be pissed at anyone who thought Michael deserved for him to be angry with him and to suffer the way some fic writers try to make him.

Also, if you disagree, know you won't change my mind on this, so don't waste your time typing something out to rant at me, okay? I'll probably just delete your reply without finishing reading it. Maria DeLuca stans DNI. Miluca stans DNI. Crazy Alex stans who hate Michael even though that means Alex would hate you, DNI.

Some late-night M*ria D*Luca hate, because why not?

Looking at some of these malex gifs just reminds me of how, with They-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, it was always about her, and what was going on with her, and how she was feeling about whatever was going on, whether it was going on with her or not, and Michael never cared one way or another. He was just there for the ride, you know? Go along with whatever conversation she would bring up, and it always lacked any heart. It's so easy for me to write Michael as indifferent or barely there during that "relationship" because everything he did felt like obligation.

He listened to her because he should, he defended her because he should, he talked to her because he should, and it was always always always about her. She never saw the issue there either. Never realized or cared that everything about their relationship centered around her. That she didn't know him and didn't care to.

Compare that to Alex? Who could see when Michael was struggling with something and wanted to know? Who actually asked and pushed and comforted? They talked about Alex's time in the military, his struggles, his fears, his family - even before they ever dated, and not nearly enough, but they did - and more than anything, they talked about Michael. What did M*ria ever know about Michael? What did she ever care to ask or question?

They wanted to pretend she was some kind of no-nonsense badass, but the only person she ever cared about defending or protecting or being there for was herself. Whenever anything came up, it was always about how it affected her. Alex, on the other hand? Sees Michael acting weird, he's not having it. His no-nonsense badass personality comes into play when the man he loves is threatened or insulted or hurting. He puts his foot down and his pride aside when he has to push past Michael's snark and find out what's bothering him. Why didn't M*ria resonate with people the way Alex did? Why didn't she get the same sympathy? People want to come up with a litany of ridiculous excuses, but the simple truth? She was fucking selfish. Not to say Michael wasn't sometimes, not to say Alex wasn't sometimes, but when it really mattered, Alex showed that his priority was Michael and Michael's feelings. M*ria showed that her priority was herself.

Anyway. Alex deserved more recognition in the show for how much he loved and how strong his love was, and I will never stop pointing it out. I'll write a fic on this soon, but I just wanted to get some feelings out while they were fresh.

- Liz and Max kiss 7 weeks and 4 days after Max confesses his love. They sleep together a week later.

Malex fans are too loud, and apparently that is why Malex is endgame 🤣🤣🤣 It couldn’t possibly be because the narrative of the entire show showcases Malex as being the ultimate relationship for Michael and Alex. Ever since the pilot Malex has been written to be the couple for Alex and Michael. It’s easy to blame the loud Malex fans but are you forgetting that Mr Michael Vlamis is the biggest fan of Malex out of all of us. Bullying Malex fans is easy, but it’s funny that these same fans have nothing to say about Vlamis stanning Malex and never giving Miluca his time when their characters were together. It’s like when they hate and bully on Tyler Blackburn and his fans, but have nothing to say about their own favourites (Trevino, Vlamis, Hemmens) still championing and being good mates with Tyler. It’s all soooo fake.

I am an Alex person first and a Malex shipper distant second and to this day it annoys me that 1x10 is considered Alex walking away again. If s4 is doing something semi-decently on the Malex front (and this might 100% be an accident that the show never intended) it's finally acknowledging that Michael has NEVER been all in with their relationship. He's JUST getting to that point now, and Alex had to be literally underground for that to happen. A lot of the s1 defense of Michael hinges on people acting like Malex could have started a satisfactory relationship if only Alex physically stayed present at some point past high school as if s1 Michael didn't keep 90% of his life a secret from him until he was forced to share and as if trying to leave the actual planet his entire life doesn't immediately trump any but 'Alex walked away x times' arguments. For three seasons, Alex had to do all the work (even after s2) in their relationship, and now, we couldn't even get one season where Michael has to pick up the slack. Yes, I am fully aware that s4 treats Michael as an abuse survivor like shit, and it's gross, but he's still massively failing Alex one last time, and it's just going to be handwaved in 4x11/4x12, whenever Alex is found, like nothing happened.

This is exactly what hurts me the most. This was supposed to be a soulmates story, a 10-years-apart-couldn't-diminish-their-love-story, the kind of cheesy bs that I was really excited to see in mlm version, y'know? But for all of Michael's talk of never looking away, canonically it's only Alex who never did (the extent of his 'relationship' with Forrest was a few dates, sex and thinking about maybe asking him to be exclusive - a far cry from falling in love and being as or more happy than in a relationship with his soulmate). S2 tarnished the soulmates story (not just that M*luca happened, but how it happened, how it ended and what Michael did after) and s3 somehow played it off as if it was still Alex who had to show his commitment and devotion to win Michael back until Michael finally decided to trust his heart to him again??? Either the character-s1-storylines-in-permament-marker theory is true or it was another case of the writers going Everything is Alex's Fault so clearly Alex had to do all the work to bring Malex together, even though the last he heard from Michael was that he didn't love him, he liked M*ria and no longer saw them as having a future together?????

But it's fine. The Michael Guerin that lives in my headcanon and loves Alex Manes with all the force of s1 metaphors and Vlammy's heart eyes, he would never. He's a little shit, a hot mess and equally culpable in his own relationship problems as his soulmate, but he's allowed to be as ride-or-die for him as he wishes and also to acknowledge and fix his mistakes.

Was reading a malex fic… and it was going great. The plot was intriguing, it was well written, it had one of the tropes that I love but… not only was miluca mentioned in a great light (Michael fondly thinking of his time with her) but malexa was also mentioned and in a great light as well (briefly describing that awful scene as something amazing). I don't know how I managed to not throw up. It just completely ruined the fic for me. Also, it wasn't tagged, it didn't appear as a 'warning note for this chapter' or something like that…. Why? Why would you do that?? You need to tag that shit, especially if you're going to mention miluca and malexa as a good thing… please tag it!! Or put a warning note!!! Anyway, I can't continue to read it…

How can Miluca fans think that they were always the endgame and that Michael always chose her. And that she was always his main love interest. Like what version of the show do they watch. Malex have been IT since the pilot.

I have...literally everything about m*luca blocked so I haven't seen this take but like....for real what show are they watching?! The pilot episode specifically parallels Malex and Echo. Max and Michael are stuck in Roswell, Liz and Alex come back at the same time after being away, we see Max talking about loving Liz since they were teens, we see Michael looking at the picture of him and Alex when they were teens, Max and Liz have a moment at the reunion, Michael and Alex have a moment at the reunion, like, what is not clicking?! And actually, the more we learn, the more firmly Malex are established even over Echo! They had some moments but were never together, never kissed or anything, and she was actually dating someone else most of the time, where as Malex were friends and getting closer while both being single, Michael was staying in Alex’s shed, they had a first kiss and a first time, and even after that we see them continuing to see each other until Alex left for the military, and it’s implied that he came back or at least kept in some kind of contact with Michael over the years, where as it’s established with Echo that Max had not seen her or had any contact in the 10 years since she left.

What does m*luca have? Her being ashamed of Michael (not trying to protect him like Alex was doing) and talking down to/about him at all times? Threatening him if he tells anyone she’s slumming with him? Taking everything he gives trying to prove he can be good enough for someone to stay while giving him absolutely nothing but derision in return? Some kind of “love story” you got there 🙄 Just say you got dumped once and now you fantasize about making men grovel for you no matter how badly you treat them, and go.

I think this is soooo accurate cos they basically make a halfassed attempt at making her this like “badasss feminist” (then don’t show a single ounce of feminism in how she behaves) but then have her say the most heinous things

Imagine Michael talking about how ashamed he is to have had sex with Maria because of her reputation in roswell

Find My Way Back to You

This is a rewrite of a short fic that I had already done. I wanted to go more in depth with the story than just the one section I had already done. This is actually heavily inspired by a vampire diaries scene. This also contains anti miluca!

"Honey! I'm home!" Michael shouted, cheerfully entering Alex's house. His brows furrowed when he didn't get the usual answer. Alex's adorable giggle and a soft hello.

Resting his hat on the hat rack Alex put up a few weeks ago, he made his way into the house noticing it was empty. A slight pout rested on his face in disappointment. Working all day he missed his boyfriend. Deciding to wait for Alex to come back, he went to the bedroom taking off his greasy shirt and threw it in the clothes hamper. Instead of grabbing one of his own shirts he keeps here, he grabbed Alex's instead. After slipping it on he noticed a note on the dresser.

[Gone out to dinner with Liz and Maria. There's some left over pasta left if you want it ♡♡-AM]

Michael sighed softly, he forgot about that dinner tonight. Alex was anxious about it all week. Liz and Deluca asked Alex to go to dinner with them to fix their fractured friendship. Alex was hesitant at first but gave in when they didn't stop asking.

Michael completely understands Alex's feelings. After they'd gotten back together Alex let it slip that he wasn't as close with the girls as he once was. Liz because she picked favorites in friendships and he felt used a lot of the time and just wasn't seen or heard. And well with Maria for very obvious reasons. Last year before Alex left Maria reached out to him looking for forgiveness, Alex asked for time and space. But the girls thought he was being ridiculous now. So Alex reluctantly agreed.

Just as he made his way to the kitchen the front door opened and slammed shut. A moment later Alex came storming around the corner, angry and with tears running down his cheeks.

Immediately concern washed over him in a wave, " Alex? What's wrong?"

Alex stopped in his tracks, obviously not expecting him to be there. He shook his head with a soft scoff and went to the kitchen and pulled out a shot glass and poured some whiskey in it.

It took a moment for Michael to catch up. Once he did he followed concerned, "Alex….what happened? Why are you crying and angry?"

" It's nothing."

"Alex, your crying-"

" Michael, just leave it be!" Alex snapped, turning around with angry tears. " I don't want to talk about it."

" Well we should! You come home crying and I'm not supposed to question that!"

" Are you settling for me?"

That stopped him in his tracks. His eyes widened in shock, "What?" He exhaled, feeling like he couldn't breathe.

" Are you with me because you can't be with her? I mean, you did pick her twice. You said we weren't good for each other. You walked outta my song. You didn't want me anymore but then she broke up with you, moved on with Greg and now you want me again." Alex stared deeply at him, shaking and crying.

Michael shook his head, everything hitting him at once. How had he not noticed how Alex had been hurting? Still hurting to this day. Why did he think his actions from last year could simply be erased?

Watching Alex cry and break as he questioned. Being confronted unexpectedly was too much, he could think of anything but guilt. Without properly thinking he walked out of the house and got in his truck and drove.

He drove for what felt like hours until he made it out to a stranded farm with abandoned junk. Getting out, he punched the side of his truck and screamed. A wave of force left him throwing the abandoned junk across the yard. He slumped down now feeling exhaled and empty.

A couple hours later he parked outside of Isobel's place feeling like he put his non-existent tail between his legs. It was the only place that felt right to go for the night. He didn't want to go back to the airstream, it just felt wrong. He was too much of a coward to face Alex yet.

Just as he got out and made his way to the door, the front door crept open. A sigh left him as he entered the house with his head down.

" You're an idiot." She was definitely shaking her head.

" Alex texted you." He stated, plopping down beside her on the couch.

A smack came at his head, " He texted, called, panicked. Despite being pissed at you, he was still worried as hell. And I don't blame him for being pissed either." Isobel scolded him.

" I don't either…. I know I need to talk to him, I just couldn't. I knew I hurt him last year but ... .to be faced right up close and to be called out on it." He sighed, rubbing his face. " I couldn't handle it."

Isobel sighed, muttering, " Idiot"

" I love him so much. Now more than ever." He looked at her sadly. " I just didn't want to break our happy bubble by bringing that stuff up. I was scared if I reminded him of my mistakes then maybe…he'd leave me. And i don't know how to talk about this stuff without making it worse."

An eye roll was the only response he got for a while. Silence didn't feel right coming from Isobel. It felt like getting the silent treatment from a disappointed mother.

"I'm selling this house." She said after a few moments.

He whipped his head up, looking at her amazed, " Really?"

Isobel nodded, " I've realized that I am not the same woman I used to be when I bought it, when I lived in it. It doesn't suit me anymore. Neither do the memories in it. I want a fresh start."

Michael nodded in understanding but not understanding what it has to do with this.

" I've changed. And so have you. You're not the man you were last year. No one is the same person they were the year before or even 10 years ago. I think it's time we let go of what's holding us back and get a fresh start. Same with you. This was supposed to be yours and Alex's fresh start. But that can't happen if stuff is holding you back. Let it go, Michael move on. Trust your instincts instead of your fear." Isobel reached out holding his hand. " You have grown and changed more than anything this past year. More so the past month. Show Alex that."

A smile spread on his lips, as he leaned into her affectionately, " You know love you right?"

Isobel smiled, wrapping her arm around his shoulder, " Yes I do. I love me too."

He scoffed, lightly punching her side.

Walking into the house was strange. They hadn't fought since getting back together. Not seriously at least. Because of it there was this weird vibe. The remnants of Alex's words. It left a pit in his stomach.

Looking around he noticed how dark and still the house was. It made that feeling worse. Finding Alex in the bedroom with tears stained on his cheek and red eyes, it made the guilt of running out worse. He wished he had stayed and told the truth right then and there but he couldn't face the pain he caused.

They both have obviously made mistakes, hurt each other in regretful ways. Pushed each other away and were too scared and traumatized to see past certain things. But despite that, they never went to anyone else until Michael did. And that's what makes this different. He knows Alex would never ever go to Max like he did with her. No matter how much it ended up hurting.

"How's Isobel?" Alex spoke softly, not looking away from his book. " She let me know you were there last night."

Michael nodded, watching Alex carefully, "She's…uh good. She's planning to sell her house. Wants to start new, move on from the past. I think it'll be good for her."

Alex nodded, still looking off the side.

Swallowing, he stepped closer into the room, " I think I should do the same."

Alex snapped his head up, looking at him in question, " I..I don't understand-"

Taking a deep breath he moved closer again, "Look, I've made some huge mistakes in my life. Falling in love with you has never been one of them."

Alex blinked surprised. He didn't blame him to be honest, especially after everything the previous year.

" And yes, I once believed we weren't good for each other. I couldn't see past the pain. I wanted to run from everything, including you." He sat on the bed, across from Alex.

" And yes, I did pick Maria once…or twice. I cared for her once. That day outside of my airstream, I picked her. I let you walk away, I let you go." He exhaled, watching tears fill Alex's eyes. " But Alex, I found my way back to you."

The man across from him looked up, surprise written on his face.

" Alex, somehow I always find my way back to you. It doesn't matter what I did before, it doesn't matter what I believed before."

"Michael-"

" It doesn't matter because I'm not that person anymore. I don't care what past me did." He reached out holding Alex's cheeks in his hands like they needed to be protected forever. "Because he's not here anymore, I am. And if…the past is a place without you and me together..then stop living in it."

Alex stared at him in wonder. The rest of the tension left Alex's shoulders as he took in the words and leaned into him more.

Michael leaned his head against his, "Alex, I should have told you this long before but I was scared. I love you, more than anything. Even last year. I'm not the man I was when I made those choices but the man I am today should have never continued to let you believe your less than everything to me. "

Alex whimpered, pulling him into a deep, passionate kiss, gripping him tight.

Michael pulled back once his lips were swollen and numb, and he was out of breath, " I love you so fucking much. Always and forever. It is written in my bones to love you."

Alex let out a wet chuckle, smiling big, "I love you too. No matter what."

He pulled him in smiling and kissed him softly this time, pushing Alex into the pillows behind.
