My heart is absolutely shattered. Ahmed Abbasi was a South African national and the head of the Gift of the Givers office in Gaza. He was deliberately targeted and killed earlier today by the genocidal, racist, colonialist Israel occupation force. He served the people of Gaza since 2013 and was appointed head of the Gift of the Givers office in the region. He implemented multiple projects, including the care of orphans, widows, the elderly and the ill. He delivered water through our desalination plants, distributed food parcels, provided hot meals and upgraded damaged homes. The whole of South Africa mourns his death.

You know what's incredibly upsetting? Seeing so many pro-Israel or pro-Zionist posts parrot that the only reason anyone could be pro-Palestine or call for a free Palestine is because they hate Jews.
I know what this tactic is meant to do and I know how making people apathetic, how discrediting their knowledge of a topic or questioning the genuineness of their empathy and other similar tactics are used to benefit the oppressive group but it's still pissing me off.
I am a descendant of enslaved people.
Our history lessons always begin with the slaughter & genocide of the indigenous peoples that were here first, primarily the Taino, who thankfully have a few descendants living in isolation along with the protected Maroon villages. It is normal throughout high school to take history trips to former great houses & plantations and see for ourselves the sites where our ancestors were brutalized and massacred; the weapons and tools of torture preserved and on display so that we knew but a taste of what they went through.
My university is built on the grounds of a former plantation. There are businesses and homes built on top of mass graves & on top of sites of slaughter. There is literally no escaping our colonial history because it touches everything. Our last names are not even our own! Most of us have English, Scottish and Irish last names given by the plantation owners to our ancestors. Or you know...because many children were the product of rape. We cannot accurately trace our true heritage more than 4-5 generations back because most families have no complete records.
A lot of you like to bring up grandparents. Cool. My great-great grandmother was the daughter of a mulatto free woman and a white Scottish sailor. She was white passing. Because land and work were hard to get here under colonial rule, she left the island for a better life with her husband who was a Cuban born mulatto and they ended up living in the US through WWII and after. They were considered an interracial couple (black & white rather than both being seen as mixed) and could not live in certain places because it was illegal. Papa couldn't find work, was treated horribly, because he had darker skin but Grandma found work passing as white and was treated much better. She worked 2-3 jobs to provide for them and their 5 children.
But, there were times when she would appear darker like if she was out in the sun too long or her curls would start to show and a Jewish neighbour/coworker suggested to her it might be safer to tick Jewish on forms rather than white if her race was ever questioned. I suppose due to that kindness the family formed friendships within the Jewish community where they lived & Grandma's eldest son actually married a Jewish woman. His kids and grandkids are all Jewish and they still live in the US.
I share this specific thing because I have very real concerns for those members of my family. But while I worry for them in this time of increasing anti-semitism and absolutely decry any verbal/physical attacks against them, I am still going to speak against things that are wrong. What Israel is doing is wrong. Of course as a non-Jewish person I can acknowledge I may misstep and if I say/do something that is genuinely anti-semitic I'll take the correction. But if your aim is just to intimidate me into silence it's not going to work.
And trying to tell me 'well black people are not welcomed there or black people wouldn't get treated well in Palestine' as if that affects the cost of bread. Guess what? Black people face racism everywhere. Even among our own and colonialism has a lot to do with that. That same grandmother, I was fortunate to grow up with her in the latter part of her life after she returned to the island and every time I went out with her there were questions of whether my family worked for her. Or why was I, this little black girl with this little old white lady as if I meant her harm. She had to say proudly, "This is my granddaughter." How other people view me or treat me isn't going to stop me from speaking up for what's right.
With the history of my people I could never ever ever side with the oppressor. Ever. Whether its here in the west or in the east, whether it's happening to my fellow black people, or any other group of people, I cannot in good conscience stand with the oppressor. My ancestors were forcibly stripped of their humanity, called savages, animals, barbarians and all of that was brutally beaten into them. That same language and similar acts of brutality are being used against Palestinians today.
You think you can cower me into staying silent on that? With unfounded accusations of hate? I refuse.
N.B. - my use of the word mulatto here is strictly to provide the historical context of how my grandparents were seen/classified and spoken of. It is not a term we use.

anyone who's majored, minored, or taken an interest in psychology at the post-secondary level is likely to have been taught the history and purpose of IQ. The measure of IQ was not used to measure actual intelligence (what is it rlly? There are many kinds actually, do we have a most agreed upon definition of what that is? I dont think so...) but to predict how well a person was to do in current educational institutions, which we know are ableist (dont take into account learning differences n styles, neurodivergence’s, and needs), follow colonized ways of learning and teaching, etc.

The fact that they let Greg Ellis stick around for so long is insane. Like, it took him being a transphobic asshole for them to decide not to hire him again. Safe to say the revelation that they'll essentially be sanitizing the series further in DA4 by glossing over the darker aspects like racism and oppression dynamics doesn't give me a lot of hope for improvement. Oh well, I guess there's always Baldur's Gate 3 when it comes out, that is.
Yes, while most people are excited with da4 I'm anxious and filled with dread ( not a pun for Solas lol ) because i know there will be so many bullshit again and I worry they'll double down on 'ALL MaGeS BaD bEcaUsE TevInTer' and some uncritical people also conservative in the fandom will parroting that bullshit
Also I'm worried about elves
I'm worry about how Maevaris will be handled because she's trans
I'm worry about Dorian and Solas
The looming dragon age 4 gives me stress because I care a lot... Yeah was gonna try BG3 BUT ITS STILL NOT FINISH!!! HNNFDGHJJ
I think EA also have the responsibility behind DAI ( besides bioware) 'GrEy MorAlity' and toning down the dark stuff, to appeal to the god damn common masses.
( Skyrim influence much?)
EA was definitely responsible of keeping Ellis for so long ( according to Twitter a lot of people on the job doesn't like him) because they don't care, EA, Activision and so many others are the same souless morally bankrupt corpo
The problem is, hiding all those dark stuff ended up whitewashing oppressor and insulting the oppressed in the worst way possible. Very VERY anxious about da4

I know some dickheads have now decided that Judaism is the "bad, violent, terrorist religion" and Islam is the "good, peaceful" one, which is only to be expected of white people, but how much of an issue is it currently? Like I've seen some USAmericans sharing how the Islamic faith shapes Gazans values and perseverance (good) except with that distinct white hippie "I'm about to imprint on this like the world's most racist duck" vibe (bad), but I didn't think they're already turning on Judaism in numbers.
Do they realize that Christianity is also the same kind of comfort to Christian minorities in Asia and Africa? That it was Buddhists that genocided the Rohingyas in Myanmar and Tamils in Sri Lanka? That Hindu fundamentalists are even now trying to ethnically cleanse Muslims in India? How Hindus and Christians are terrorized and persecuted in Pakistan? That Muslims have a history of persecuting and ethnically cleansing Jews too?
Really tired of asking y'all to be normal about people's religions man. There's no religion that's inherently violent or exceptionally peaceful. It's just like any other ideology that becomes a weapon in the hands of ethnic power. Interrogate power, not religion, and respect people's belief systems insofar as they aren't in your business.
Edit: I've amended the "long history" of Muslim persecution of Jews because it might be misleading in the current political climate. Zionism and antisemitic Arab nationalism are twin births resulting directly from Christian colonization, and Islamic empires tended to actually be more tolerant of other religions compared to Christianity, especially Judaism, which was considered a sibling religion. Antisemitism wasn't ideologically entrenched in Islamic tradition. It's simply that ethno-religious power will lead to ethno religious domination and intermittent cleansing of minorities, and Islam is no exception. Humans be humaning always.

You’re blind, dumb, delusional or a combination of all three if you don’t think these situations are identical. My entire family lived through South African apartheid. My father and his family were subject to constant abuse even though they weren’t black. My family is of Indian descent which means they came to South Africa as indentured labourers. All POC in South Africa (black people, Indian people and coloured people) were subject to absolute horrors. My family suffered unimaginably and still have PTSD to this day and yet their suffering pales in comparison to the suffering of our black brothers and sisters. If anything, Palestinian apartheid is worse. They are being bombed, barricaded and killed en masse. Children are being raised knowing nothing but a life of war and violence. Children are being kept as political prisoners. Hospitals, churches, schools and mosques are being bombed to high heaven. If you think what is happening is self defence you are entitled, privileged and have not known a day of proper suffering in your life. There is a reason most of Israel’s support comes from first world countries and white people. Palestine has the right to fight back. As Nelson Mandela said, if there is no other option, we will use violence.
“The freedom of South Africa remains incomplete without the freedom of Palestine”

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
For the people constantly asking why we should care, humanity is truly in a dire state if so many are asking this.
There are a lot of injustices going on in the world at the same time. To the Uyghurs, the Ethiopian Jews, in Myanmar and so on. Many of them we only hear about briefly and what we hear/see is filtered through the western media so it barely touches the surface and is warped in some way. It's hard to stay ontop of everything at once but I think more of us are trying.
What is being done to the people blockaded within Gaza is something we're seeing in living colour thanks to social media and I think what's stand out about it is the scale of violence & destruction within such a short time and how much support Israel is getting (financial, munitions etc) to carry out the atrocities. From leaders who claim to defend democracy and freedom no less.
We should care about every instance of injustice in the world and I encourage everyone to learn about them & talk about them too. But there's also this feeling of urgency here like if we don't keep challenging our leaders right now there will be no one and nothing left in Gaza before the end of November. As much as we can we need to keep talking and sharing. Keep praying if you're compelled to and elevate the Palestinian voices wherever you find them. It's the least we can do.
Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Saw your most recent post in the ASPD tags, don't post there if your going to be abelist.
It’s not ableist, ppl with these patterns thrive in our society and are quite overrepresented in powerful jobs and are quite successful (in this sense)! I’d go as far as to argue that our current society was built by them and for them to excel in, giving them an unfair advantage over others who carry more “light triad” qualities and aren't along the spectrum. Even if u look at the workweek, most ppl don’t function like that (they're wired differently)...I do recognize that these disorders are stigmatized, however, I do think that’s for good reason and those who have these diagnoses should be approached with caution. ASPD is a diagnosis that is more of a danger to others more than anything else if u read the criteria

Teaching Counter Narratives
The "master narrative" is this what is mainly taught in schools. Which is the history and perspectives or white, wealthy, males and everyone else's stories are often overlooked. Due to the dominance of the master narrative the oppression of many communities has been ignored in schools and society. As teachers, it is our job to be anti-oppressive and not just teach the content that we are told to teach, but to go beyond and tell the stories of those who are often unheard and underrepresented.
