Shit pansexuals say and what they don't realize they're saying:
"Hearts not parts!" > everyone else only cares about their partner's genitals, making me more virtuous
"Pansexual means I'm attracted to trans people too!" > no one else could ever love a trans person because they're a special Other category that you need to include instead of just being men and women
"I'm more comfortable with the term pansexual." > I don't give a shit about the history of the term pansexual and I am actively trying to erase bisexual history. I spout transphobic and biphobic bigotry disguised as "wokeness" and I don't even realize it, or if I do, I simply don't care. I value the warm, fuzzy feeling I get more than the history and goals of LGBT people and what they have fought for decades to accomplish.
"I don't see gender." > I am making an effort to ignore something that is pretty integral to a person's identity.
"I need to get to know someone before I have sex with them." > I think I am Unique and Special. I am more pure than those filthy, sex crazed bisexuals who will sleep with anyone. I am incapable of comprehending that most normal people desire emotional connection to a person they're sleeping with.
"I identify as pansexual." > I am no different from someone who is bisexual, except that I'm more special because my internalized biphobia makes me think bisexuals are icky.
"Let people identify however they want!" > I have not thought critically about the impact of this because I don't care about anything beyond my immediate surroundings.
"It's not hurting anyone." > I have likely read many accounts from people who have been hurt by my label, but I am choosing to ignore that because thinking critically about it makes me uncomfortable.
"Pan means all and bi means two." > I'm not clever enough to realize that there are only two kinds of attraction: homo (same as me) and hetero (different than me). I am also actively ignoring the meaning of the purple stripe on the bisexual flag.

"This lgbtqia+ microlabel discourse doesn't exist outside of online spaces!!!" Um, I don't tend to tell my social circles about my issues with ace/aro and mspec microlabels, mainly because I'd probably get isolated from lgbt+ spaces, which I want to contribute to and be able to find support in. But I do witness the trash thinking that online discourse has fostered so it's not entirely online now, is it?

why is pansexuality bad?
The basic points are as follows:
It stems from, and continues to promote biphobia, misconceptions about bisexuality, and bisexual erasure. (implying bisexuality is reductive, implying bisexuality means "men and women" or "2 genders" when it has historically been defined by bisexuals as attraction regardless of gender).
Some definitions are transphobic ("men, women, trans people" purposely 'others' trans people, implying there needs to be a whole separate sexuality to date a trans person).
The general harm that a ton of micro-labels causes to young people who are struggling with their identity. (we're at a point where every possible thing is a sexuality/gender label, which is like. Not good??? sexuality/gender are not all of a person's identity nor should they be all of a person's personality. also the myriad of different labels, many of which are contradictory or redundant, contribute to a lot of people being confused/struggling to find who they are for longer or having a more difficult time accepting who they are).

One thing you have to remember is that online queer discourse doesn't make a damn bit of difference to systemic queerphobia irl or LGBT rights. No amount of playing respectability politics by identifying the "real freaks" will ever lead to sexual emancipation or prevent sexual violence. No amount of trying to identify and cast out "oppressors" and "infiltrators" will ever make homophobes and transphobes respect the sanctity of your sexual identity. Not letting people have words and flags and colours is absolutely nothing except a weapon for online harrassment and clout-chasing wielded by white and Western weirdos who've drunk the colonizer Kool-Aid.

And yet somehow bisexuals are still in the wrong for calling out the blatant biphobia and bisexual erasure that is the pansexual label? Yeah fuck off. Pansexual is and always will be biphobic and the people who continue to support labels like this are actively contributing to biphobia and bisexual erasure. Not that inclus care cause y’all are happy to call anyone who either disagrees, or has the evidence to back up why mspec labels are so harmful, terfs. Absolutely vile.

Happy Pride month! Remember Pansexuality is Total Bullshit and Bisexuality has been inclusive of all genders and defined as such by Bisexuals back in 1970 and earlier!

Hmm, we need "m-spec" exclusionism because more and more people outside of political LGBT spaces are being misinformed about what pansexual is, and it's significantly contributing to the erasure of bisexuals while also making the stigma worse actually.
Obviously I'm not mad at people who are uninformed or are mistakenly using the term because they were told it's 'more inclusive' or whatever but it is so annoying that normal people on the street use the term. I can't fault someone for making a mistake in good faith.
However fuck the people that try to debate me about my own sexuality, especially if they pull the 'actually, that's pan.' I hope all the sex you ever have is mediocre at best.

Apparently today is pan awareness day. Maybe people should use this spread awareness about the history of the label.
For Pan awareness day I'd like to take a moment to talk about some common misconceptions and harmful stereotypes!
1. "Bi = 2/2 or more, Pan = All" in reference to sexuality. Bisexuality has long been described by bisexuals as attraction regardless of gender! Not "2 or more". In fact, the "bi" part of bisexual denotes not 2 genders, but 2 types of attraction: homo and hetero, genders like and unlike one's own, which would of course encompass all.
2. "Bisexuals care about gender, pans never have preferences" tell that to all the people who call themselves pansexual yet insist they're attracted to everyone bit cis men, which is both not "no preference" AND it's transphobic towards trans men. Also, nobody is attracted to someone solely for their gender, including bisexuals. That's ridiculous.
3. This one is a little out dated, but it still needs to be discussed. "Bisexuals don't like trans people, pans do". This is not only incorrect, but it's also transphobic. This purposely others trans people and insinuates that there needs to be a whole other sexuality for people willing to date a trans person.
4. "Biphobia isn't real." Biphobia refers to prejudice against bisexuals, I have never seen anybody claiming that bisexuals are specifically targeted by institutional oppression. Prejudice against bisexuals is very real, and can be seen both in and out of the LGBT community. Examples of biphobia include the ever growing list of mspec labels, people insisting that a bisexual is secretly straight or secretly gay, the idea that bisexuals need to pick a side, the stereotype that bisexuals are promiscuous/prone to cheating, and yes, also the constant misinformation about bisexuality and bisexual history that has become such a problem because of the popularity of the pansexual label.

SAPPHIC ARTISTS TO LISTEN TO
(instead of writing your 69th essay about how Taylor Swift is a closet lesbian)
Starting off with my holy trinity:
Rina Sawayama (she/her, bi/pan): if you follow me you're probably aware of what a huge Rina fan I am. Lots of pop and rock, with a chunk of her earlier songs being R&B. Her debut album SAWAYAMA (my favourite album of all time!!) was her major breakthrough moment as it received critical acclaim and her sophomore album Hold the Girl made her the highest charting Japanese artist in the history of the UK. Known for her musical versatility, she made her acting debut in John Wick 4. I recommend: Cherry, Frankenstein and Bad Friend
Janelle Monáe (she/they, bi/pan): pop, funk, neo-soul and psychedelic. They have an entire series of concept albums about an android named Cindy Mayweather (her ALTER EGO?!) as she commits the crime of falling in love with a human. Lots of social commentary. Her album Dirty Computer comes along with a narrative film and a book taking place in its world. She's starred in movies like Antebellum, Glass Onion and Moonlight. I recommend: Electric Lady, Django Jane and Pynk
Raveena Aurora (she/her, bi): Experimental pop, R&B and soul. Her second album Asha's Awakening is a concept album following the journey of Asha, a Punjabi space princess, as it explores Aurora's South Asian identity and past relationships. Such a beautiful and soft voice to die for. I recommend: Headaches, If Only and Kathy Left 4 Kathmandu
Moving onto some other artists I like:
Boygenius: a band comprising of three sapphic women- Phoebe Bridgers (indie darling™), Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker (the first two are bi while the third is a lesbian). Indie, folk and alternative rock. Very melancholic. I urge you to check out their individual projects too (especially Phoebe's, I love her Punisher album). I recommend: Emily I'm Sorry, Satanist and True Blue
Kelela (she/her, queer): R&G, electronic and alternative R&B. Her debut EP Hallucinogen covers the beginning, middle and end of a relationship in reverse chronological order. Her second album Raven showcases Black futuristic art, which I fuck with. I recommend: Contact, The High and Bluff
Zolita (she/her, lesbian): dark-pop, R&B and electropop. She incorporates witchcraft into her music and mvs. She literally has an EP called Sappho what more could you want? I recommend: Holy, Ashley (the sapphic Speak Now) and Bedspell
Victoria Monét (she/her, bi): pop and R&B. She's written songs for artists like Ariana Grande (7 Rings) and Chloe x Halle (Do It). Go stream her Jaguar EP you will thank me later. I recommend: Touch Me (erotic sapphic song), Cupid and Love U Better
And finally some honourable mentions (can't make this post too long now can I): mxmtoon, Michelle Zauner, Arooj Aftab, Sir Babygirl, Dodie, Chloe Moriondo, Lauren Jauregui, Baby Queen, Sara and Teagan, The Butchies, Sofya Wang and Melissa Etheridge
