What If I...?

Believe it or not, you know all about this fic. This was my original title for it (named after a BSB song), but it's probably not going to stick. We'll see.

This is the Drake fic where he gets shot down by the girl of his dreams (his lab partner in college), and he comes back to Cordonia (after the assassination attempt), and he's very anti-love. He meets Thalia who is like a Disney princess, and loves everything there is to love about love... and they hate each other.

In Thalia's quest for a love, she decides to tease fate by instigating a sort-of love challenge, writing in a journal. She leaves the journal amongst the love poetry stacks at the library, hoping that her Prince Charming will find it and write her back.

Who finds it? Drake.

(Denim is Drake's nickname at college)

"Denim, it's ten after six--"

Drake breaks from his reverie. He blushes, offering a chuckle to his roommate Tommy standing at the entrance to the community bathroom.

"Cmon, man!" Tommy jokingly slaps Drake on the back. "Moni is going to be here any minute to study for your finals! Go get dressed!" He shoves Drake towards the door, both men snickering.

Drake raises his hands in surrender when suddenly, his cellular phone rings. His face begins to drop as he quickly recognizes the name flashing across the screen. He was not about to deal with that tonight. Hitting the Ignore button, he hastily makes way to his dorm room. 

As he finishes getting ready for his study date with Monika, Drake pulls out a bouquet of red roses from his mini-fridge. Sprucing them up in a glass vase, Drake's phone rings again.

Same name, same three letters flashing on the screen.

Damnit.

Where You Haunt Me Most

This fic is actually a request from like 18 years ago. lol Okay, okay... maybe not that long ago, but it's got our favorite characters that we want to beat upside the head. Sam misses Brynn after the divorce, and he invites her to a quiet dinner, just the two of them. Poor bastard; it doesn't exactly go according to plan. Here's a snippet:

Taking one last glance in the rear view mirror, Sam Dalton meticulously combs down a loose, salt-and-pepper curl before smoothing down his goatee. Slowly letting out the nervous breath he was holding, his door opens for him to exit. Slipping out of the sedan, he buttons his suit jacket before giving a curt nod to his longtime family driver Carter.

"Good luck tonight, Mr. Dalton," the older man tips his hat towards Sam, "and happy birthday."

Sam offers a kind, cordial thanks, but his dark, chocolatey eyes are already scanning the gathered crowd of restaurant attendees. 

Where is she?

"Mr. Dalton?" A cheerful, soft voice grabs his attention. "It's so lovely for you to be joining us tonight. Are you ready to be seated, or should we wait for Mrs. Dalton?"

Mrs. Dalton. Sam freezes, but covers up his shock by curling his lips handsomely. Collected. Cool. There's still a part of Sam's heart that flutters, hearing that others think he is still with his goddess of an ex-wife.

He wishes he was too.

If you could write the epilogues for the Glee kids, what would they be? And who would Shane and Mitchie like, if they watched it?

first, to answer the second part of your question i think mitchie and shane have watched glee because they experienced the late 2000s early 2010s, but they didn't experience the same late 2000s early 2010s that i did. they're not normies by any means, but they watched the first three seasons and then dipped like the rest of the world.

now, for the first part. it is important to keep in mind that when i am perceiving glee i am doing it from the perspective of blaine anderson who has been my government assigned kin since i was fifteen years old in like, this deeply unhealthy way.

i only know what characters are doing based on how much of a proximity they are in to blaine, who gets a BA from columbia in human rights and a jd in civil rights law after that. he sings in the choir at st. marks and does dinner and a play with his friends from dalton when they're in town, and it is good. i think kurt goes to the new school and does their program in journalism and design and goes into publishing. they have a interwoven friend group from college and work and whathaveyou rivaling the hippest of williamsburg millennials. i forget the math on the timeline on this, but at some point they buy a brownstone in bed stuy and because they're anti landlord, the garden level apartment is just this open rotating space for whoever needs it. some of their foster kids have come back over the years and stayed there for a while. finn did 6 months while doing an education fellowship in the city. he's teaching in ohio now, but shows up to their house unannounced at least once every six weeks. they're still in touch with sam, that bond from that last year they were all in the house is just. unbreakable.

nobody talks to rachel anymore, she's in la working down the ladder for some not-caa agency and is claiming it's what she wants to do. (it's not.)

PB really thinks cheating or being a homewrecker is cool in fiction but its not

The way they portray it is so disgusting, too. Sam and the MC were infallible and always portrayed as good people who were truly in love and their affair wasn’t wrong because it was real love. But when Sofia and Robin do the exact same thing, the book and characters automatically vilify them (tbh, as they should) for the very thing Sam and the MC are praised and respected for.

Same thing with Jenny and Aditya, except Aditya was already married rather than just engaged (while Jenny was aware of this fact), so in a way, it’s slightly worse. Their relationship, like Sam and MC’s, stemmed purely from lust and exhilaration rather than love and gradual development, yet it’s portrayed in a way that has the characters in the book sympathizing with them anyway rather than (rightfully) scorning them for their affair. Worse still, Aditya’s wife is scapegoated and blamed for his affair and no one even thinks to tell her what’s going on.

Frankly, as a person who’s been cheated on by several different partners, one of which was a four-year relationship and occurred somewhat recently, the way PB paints cheating and unfaithfulness in a positive light and the cheaters as star-crossed lovers with a big bad fiancé/spouse/whatever keeping them apart, is deeply, deeply insulting. And with cheating culture existing, we really don’t need anything else to perpetuate such selfish, unfathomably shitty behavior, especially to Choices’ audience, which contains a lot of impressionable children and teens.

Some naïve part of me still consumes their work hoping the characters will receive some kind of comeuppance or karma for their actions, but they don’t. The cheaters are rewarded and get to live happy lives despite meddling in at best or wrecking at worst their victims’ lives.

I think that if PB does keep writing stories about affairs, they need to write everything that comes with them. The deep, often permanent emotional scarring, the constant paranoia and lack of trust, the misplaced self-loathing and self-blame, the heartbreak and agony of someone you trusted so deeply having betrayed you, all of it.

I honestly have no idea why some people like Sam. They are literally the most shallow LI in the entire game like their only personality trait is being horny for MC 7/24 and that's without mentioning their other bad qualities like being a horrible parent, a total push over, and just being a coward in general. Like yeah their sprites are hot but that's not enough to overlook all the negatives.

Yeah I agree, the only appeal I see for Sam is that the sprite is hot and all the "sexual tension". Everything else is at best mediocre and at worst just horrible

There might be some other reason why people do like Sam which is fine

I'm just impressed by how much PB messed up the ONLY official LI who is supposed to be irresistible and yet they messed it up so hard
